As far as gaming journalism memes go, I was never clear on why Adam Kovic calling FarCry3 "Skyrim with guns" was such a huge thing. I mean, it's kind of a meaningless thing to say, but why was it memeworthy? I guess it was coming after everyone called Fallout 3 "Oblivion with guns"? ...Except that was basically true.

I always liked the "makes you feel like Batman" thing. That was clearly an example of the studio giving suggested talking points to scumbag vg "news" outlets, and they all just ran with it.

...Apparently there was some "scandal" where Adam Kovic got fired from Funhaus for having sex with his wife at the studio and pictures of it leaked? When was this? I stopped paying attention to anything Machinima / Rooster Teeth-related so long ago I can't even remember when specifically that was. But this was a thing? Why? That's funny! And it's like the least terrible thing many people affiliated with those outlets have done over the years.

It’s still on there! I was rewatching an episode recently :) it’s a fun time, though both RH and Adam Kovic are in it so keep that in mind 👍 but yeah I definitely recommend it, especially if you enjoy murder mystery stuff and spy movies lol (I love both)

It was the Scandal that came out when Kdin dropped all the lore she could about the bigotry and horrid work conditions at the company. Even while RT publicly treated her as the Golden child of their "Inclusiveness"

It was because "We had done enough for the queer community"

It was the fact that as of a few months ago, people were still leaving glass door reviews about how shit it was to work there

It was the mass layoffs.

It was the dude bro work culture

It was the Death of Achievement hunter, and the pulling of RT content from Youtube to paywall it on their own site in a desperate move to get money.

It was the fact that Rwby was never truly profitable, by their own admission.

It was the Layoff's.

It was the shitty rectangle Jepgs on T-shirts.

It was Mica Burton leaving after RT failed to protect her from online harrasment.

It was Gray Haddock Pilfering V5's budget for his own soon to be failed pet project.

It was the absolute shit show treatment of the Nomad of Nowhere's creator.

It was the Shane letter

And I suppose, when it was all said and done. When everyone with two braincells to rub together and wasn't high as balls on copium to see the writing on the wall, that RT was sinking down the drain as they didn't even have enough money to fund a new volume without Crunchyroll.

It was the executives of WB pulling the plug on the grossly unprofitable and scandal ridden venture.

WB didn't kill Rooster Teeth, it put it out of it's fucking misery.

Most of what's happening to RT is their own doing. RWBY was bleeding them dry and it wasn't making a profit. Barb admitted they weren't making as much money as they did in 2011.

It's RT's fault for pouring money into projects that didn't make much of a profit, its RT's fault for mismanaging money, its RT's fault for treating their staff like shit. Them making Bumbleby canon, was literally a last-ditch effort for them to get profit (merch as well) and it backfired on them. And this is coming from someone who ships bumbleby.

As much flak I give WBD, this is the only time where their not at fault. RT played the game of fuck around and find out.

so on october 18th, 2022, the moderators at r/funhaus reached out to misti dawn (former employee at machinima, the company) to see if she wanted them to amplify her voice on the subreddit. this was because one reddit user privately messaged the funhaus subreddit mods about some comments misti made under this thread in r/agedlikemilk, this being the first one out of many comments from her:

she agreed, so the r/funhaus mods shared all of her comments in one post. there, she talks about her interactions with adam while they were both working at machinima, misti being a director/partner/livestream host, and adam being one of the members of inside gaming:

she then answered comments under the post for about an hour. all of her responses are under the username "meowmistidawn" if you want more information from her. most notably, this is her most upvoted comment:

Ive been an AH fan since maybe like 2012 ish? So not OG but a long time.

Can the people telling RT/AH staff members that they’re overreacting or that they’re not acting how they should, PLEASE remember that you don’t know Ryan or Adam in real life but they do? They’re experiencing this first hand in real life, and you may feel disappointed and devastated and anxious because it’s involving someone you’ve looked up to and liked for so long, and there’s a lot of complex emotions there, but you still don’t actually know the people. They do.

This isn’t to invalidate people’s feelings, just a conscious reminder that they are probably feeling a lot worse about it than you are right now so telling them how to feel, or saying they’re not doing or saying or feeling enough, is really not cool.
