"You can't hate on an entire Sherlock Holmes adaptation just because of how they interpret Irene Norton (nee Adler)-" SHUT UP.
I will hate on an adaptation if it does the following:
makes Irene a love interest for Sherlock Holmes (whether realized or not).
First of all, Holmes is NOT attracted to women, and never experiences a smidgen of attraction towards them in the original stories. ACD could have very easily written him a love interest, but CHOSE NOT TO because it went against the idea of his character. He was never attracted towards women.
Second of all, Irene Adler isn't even Irene Adler. Her name is Irene NORTON. Do you want to know why? Because she's LITERALLY MARRIED. TO A LAWYER NAMED GODFREY NORTON. She already has a husband who she loves very much! She does not love Holmes!
Thirdly, a man can feel admiration for a woman without being attracted to her. Watson literally says in the first part of A Scandal in Bohemia that he didn't feel any emotion akin to love for Irene Adler!!
2. makes Irene into some sort of femme fatalle/sexually appealing
This implies that women can only be smarter than men if they are attractive/hot. That, in order for a woman to be successful, she has to provide something for a man.
Edit: this doesn't mean that she ISNT attractive. She is beautiful and enthralling, which is what makes the king fall for her in the first place. What I mean is when Irene becomes a SEXUALIZED character.
Doing this means she can't just be a smart woman, but that she has to be sexually attractive and mysterious, too! DOING THIS REDUCES HER INTO AN OBJECT OF DESIRE!!!
3. makes her weak/makes her get outsmarted by Holmes
Im not sure if any adaptations have actually done this. But if so. Absolutely not. She challenges Holmes's misogynistic ideals and to reform his views. Because Holmes views women as softer, weaker, and less intelligent (when they are NOT!!) And Irene helps to teach him this. Her lesson is effective!! Because Holmes stops making fun of women. And he changes his ways. Why would you make her weaker? She's SUPPOSED to beat Holmes.
If it does this or anything else I will NOT view the adaptation. You can tell a lot about the adaptors, their respect and accuracy while depicting the original stories, and how they view women, through their interpretation of Irene Norton. She is the most famous female character in the series, after all. Do her RIGHT! READ A SCANDAL IN BOHEMIA BEFORE YOU ADAPT! And if you still make these amateur mistakes, you shouldn't be adapting Sherlock Holmes at all.

dammit, look what fell into my cart today
It happened again: today's thrifted slide/neg/print scanner is a Kodak P461. With the Kodak name on it, you would expect high quality.

But no, not quite, it was made by Pandigital in 2010, and they produced many fine products in the "best try" category. (Eight years later I still can't find my Pandigital e-reader that uses Android 3.) But with a $6 pricetag I can't complain about whatever I get. So this beast can scan prints up to 4x6 at 300dpi or 600dpi and slides at 1200dpi. The only things missing from this box are the manual (this is what the Internet is for) and half of the included MicroSD card, plus they pried the SD card adaptor open. Uh, okay, that's some pent-up aggressions there, so I'll just use one of my stray SD cards, thank you. Also included for some reason was a Targus SD card reader, so maybe that's just a swap or peace offering for the destroyed storage. Happily included are the calibration sheet, the slide and film adaptors, and the three cleaner accessories, along with the power cord and USB cable -- this scans to the SD card and runs on four AA batteries, but can be plugged into the wall and connected to the computer to either use the card as a memory device in My Computer or (with Kodak's drivers, which were on the destroyed card) saved directly to the computer. Another one of those "no computer needed, just give me a photo and I'll scan it to the card" doohickies. The difference between this Kodak (and last time's VuPoint) and most other standalones is this thing actually does scan rather than just take a photo. So you'd think the pictures would come out better?

Same issue -- despite scanning at 1200dpi they come out a bit jaggy despite the original being an analog film photo. Okay, so now let's try the print from a previous test also:

I will grant them credit that the sensor calibrator sheet works. I will also tell you that no matter how many times and ways I have cleaned it (by the instructions: use the cleaner tool; by geek standards: use canned air) there's still dust on the result that isn't on the print, just a lot less streaking than in the previous three runs through; the right photo is a zoom so you can see the dust more clearly.
But like the VuPoint, it automatically senses the edges incorrectly. Side-by-side are the result of scanning the last Hippies slide and what the thing really looks like according to my Epson scanner:

The purpose of the purple across the bottom is padding I put so the two images would be the same length and centering... thus you note that the top is the top, the right side is the right side, the left side got cropped by about 40 pixels, and the bottom was cropped by 117 pixels. I have no complaints about the color this time, though. The grain, yes, and the fact that it cropped the tail for no reason, but not the Kodak's slightly 'cooler' take and better balance that reduced the sunny golden tone and clarified the people in blue in the background to make the photo more aesthetic.
So I rate this one a bit higher than the last one, but still a quick and dirty amateur solution rather than anything you should rely on.

It is a reality that your laptop will fail at some point. When it does, it's essential to know what you, the consumer, can do to help yourself and reduce downtime. If you cannot turn it on, remove the battery and connect it directly to the main outlet via the adaptor. But the best way is to consult a professional at a computer shop. If it starts, it's a faulty battery, which is an easy fix. So many problems I have encountered dealing with the battery. Most of us keep the charger plugged in all the time, which is not a good idea. This will end up destroying the battery. As a rule, let the battery run flat to about 3-5%, then begin the charge cycle again. Once complete, disconnect it, and repeat the process. Your battery will last much longer. If the battery is not the problem, it could be the adaptor. Try running it without the adaptor attached. Replacing the adaptor can fix the problem. These are examples of easy fixes which most consumers can quickly deal with themselves. If both of the above suggestions don't work, it's time to check your receipt to see if your laptop is still under warranty.
Great if it is, not so good if it's not. So what now? A professional would be the best option here because laptops are complicated and complex to repair, and a great deal of skill, knowledge and patience is required to diagnose them properly. There are two types of repairers available. The first is the traditional shopfront computer and laptop repairs shop, or nowadays, the same-day mobile repair services that conveniently come to your house or place of work. They offer professional services just like the shop and have the skills to accurately diagnose on the spot and provide you with an estimate of the cost of repair. Choosing a repairer takes work. I would first speak to a friend or a work colleague and find out if they know someone they have used in the past and were happy with. Qualifications are essential in this industry. A Microsoft certification is always held in high esteem, as is a CompTIA, and even stuff in electronics is handy. These combined will be a good starting point when finding a good repairer. Ask as many questions as necessary. Questions like; Which brands do you service the most? Turnover rate? Qualifications attained? Written quote? Warranty of repair? How long has the repairer been in business? To name a few.
Another option would be to go back to the manufacturer and ask if they have a service centre near you. This type of repair usually is more expensive than a generic repair company, but at least with this option, you know that it will be repaired by the company that made the laptop.
In the end, it always comes down to cost. If a new motherboard or a combination of parts is required, it may not be financially feasible to repair the laptop. In such cases, a new replacement can be cheaper. Do your maths first because if you have to purchase new software licenses, coupled with the cost of a new laptop, the whole exercise becomes a giant money pit.
The outcome should be favourable whether you choose a traditional shop, mobile service, or manufacturer laptop repairs centre. They all want your business, and in this challenging economic climate, the ultimate aim is to keep you coming back.

The cGAS-STING Pathway: A Key Immune Surveillance Mechanism

The innate immune system provides the first line of defense against invading pathogens like viruses and bacteria. One of its key mechanisms for detecting microbial infections is the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-stimulator of interferon genes (STING) pathway. This cellular surveillance pathway plays a critical role in detecting foreign DNA from invading microbes and mounting appropriate immune responses.
How It Works
When microbial DNA enters the cytosol of host cells, it is recognized by the cGAS enzyme. cGAS has the unique ability to bind to DNA and produce the second messenger cyclic GAMP (cGAMP) from ATP and GTP. cGAMP then acts as a ligand to bind and activate the endoplasmic reticulum-associated adaptor protein called STING.

There, IRF3 induces the expression of Type I interferons (IFN-α and IFN-β) and other proinflammatory cytokines that signal the presence of invading pathogens to other cells and recruit additional immune defenses.
Role In Antiviral Defense
The cGAS-STING Pathway plays a critical role in the host defense against various DNA viruses like herpes simplex virus 1, cytomegalovirus, Epstein-Barr virus, vaccinia virus and HIV. Upon viral DNA entry in the cytosol, cGAS binds and activates STING to induce Type I IFN production. This initiates an antiviral state in infected cells and neighboring uninfected cells to limit viral replication and spread. Mice lacking cGAS or STING exhibit impaired IFN responses and increased susceptibility to infection by these DNA viruses.
