This week, Bollywood meant business with its red carpet looks.
Mere hours after touching down in Mumbai, Sonam Kapoor attended a dinner with Italian chef Massimo Bottura in a bold, colour-blocked look in shades of canary yellow, candy pink and blood orange, and was joined at the get together by Mira Rajput Kapoor in an edgy black pantsuit featuring mermaid-esque flared trousers. Athiya Shetty looked sharp in a suit this week as well, picking a royal blue Dejana Lukic version for her evening out.
Among the stars who went the traditional route, both Deepika Padukone and Janhvi Kapoor favoured Anamika Khanna this week. While the former went bold in a scarlet jacket-sari combination, the latter opted for earthy shades of ebony, mustard and terracotta at the 48th International Film Festival of India in Goa. As for Kapoor’s mom, Sridevi was unmissable in a black and gold Manish Malhotra lehenga.

Aditi Khorana
Aditi Khorana spent part of her childhood in India, Denmark and New England. She has a BA in International Relations from Brown University and an MA in Global Media and Communications from the Annenberg School for Communication. She has worked as a journalist at ABC News, CNN, and PBS, and most recently as a marketing executive consulting for various Hollywood studios including FOX, Paramount and SONY. MIRROR IN THE SKY is her first novel. She lives in Los Angeles and spends her free time reading, hiking, and exploring LA’s eclectic and wonderful architecture. Her second book, LIBRARY OF FATES, a feminist historical fantasy set in fictional ancient India, about a louche misogynistic dictator overthrowing a tiny, idyllic kingdom and the women who must wrench it back from him is out in July 2017.
Q&A
Read Now Sleep Later: When you were a teen, what was your reading/writing life like?
Aditi Khorana: I was a voracious reader as a kid and a teen. As a teenager, I often read books under my desk during class instead of paying attention in school. Books were a refuge for me. I desperately wanted to become a writer and filled the pages of my notebooks with all kinds of stuff - journaling about the day-to-day, (bad) poetry, essays, plays. I feel really lucky that as an adult, I get to do what my teenage-self dreamt of!
RNSL: You may have many reasons for writing--what's your #1 top reason why you write now?
AK: I often write with a question in mind that I'm trying to make sense of or explore. When I was writing MIRROR IN THE SKY, I was asking myself whether everyone has an alternative life that they wonder about, and I was simultaneously thinking about what it means to truly belong. When I was writing my upcoming novel, LIBRARY OF FATES, I was exploring this idea of how life continues when one has lost everything. Writing, for me at least, is a way of exploring the big questions that haunt me, keep me up at night.
RNSL: What are you working on next that you can share a bit about?
AK: I actually have a novel coming out in July - LIBRARY OF FATES is a feminist historical fantasy set in ancient India. It's about a louche, misogynistic dictator overthrowing an idyllic kingdom and the women who have to band together across their cultural differences to wrench it back from him. It's loosely based on Alexander the Great's invasion into India but from an intersectional feminist perspective.
RNSL: Cake or Pie--and why?
AK: This is a tough one! I love baking pies, but I love eating cake more because frosting!
Intriguing, no? Check out Aditi, Elana, and their books online and at the festival!
