In defense of Adria Lafayette
I suspect that between now and the second half of MGADD, Adria will catch serious hell for forbidding Lunella from continuing as Moon Girl. She'll be a "mean mom" from now on, the subject of a zillion "hot takes" and "salt fics" ignorant of all the love and support Adria has visibly provided her daughter in the past, helping her find her voice, her inspiration, and her true self. She won't even get any grace after the second half drops and she likely backtracks on that decision.
Let's cut this off at the pass, shall we? Adria has been through a lot, especially this past evening in-show. She's just learned that the reason Lunella's been avoiding her and the rest of the family is that she's secretly been Moon Girl all this time, routinely risking her safety in fights with criminals, supervillains, and the occasional interdimensional being. There's a T-Rex standing outside the apartment and a secret lab in the basement. Her mother-in-law has known or suspected Lunella is Moon Girl for months now, and she never brought that up--oh, by the way, she has massive secrets of her own that just fell out. Finally, one of the villains Lunella previously fought (in another dimension, no less) has returned for vengeance, nearly killing them all and trashing their apartment. Can you blame Adria for wanting Lunella to put her superhero career on ice?
Please remember that Adria's parental fiat is not motivated by an attempt to pull rank, nor is it intended as a statement of disapproval of who Lunella is and what she's been doing. As far as Adria can see, Lunella's life as Moon Girl is putting her and the rest of the family in danger, and that's a non-negotiable. It is a decision made out of love, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time… and even if it ultimately proves ill-advised.

If you’re still looking for moon girl Drabble prompts, maybe she gets hurt pushing a member of her family to safety, and they help her after :)?
Adria Lafayette says, "You are never doing this again!" and Lunella's entire body rejects it. Rejects it hard. Rejects it like an organ transplant. Her mind buzzes with half-baked plans, with terror, with that familiar shaking of her hands.
"No."
It slips out. It's not even intentional. It's just so full-bodied, so powerful, it eeks out her chest like blood from a gash. Lunella feels herself straighten, her shoulders square. Battle ready. She's going to fight for this.
Mom's face tightens. She's scared too, Lunella realizes. "Excuse me?"
"No, ma'am," she corrects, even though that's not what she means. Lunella shakes with the force of her refusal- shakes her head, shakes her chest, shakes her hands. Everything's shaky. "I can't stop."
It's not a won't type of situation. Lunella simply didn't think her body would be able to at this point. So much of herself is tied up in Moon Girl- her confidence, her dreams, and even her nightmares- that if she tried to stop it would fundamentally change something inside of her. It's too late. She's too far gone.
"You don't have a choice," Adria reminds her. "I am your mother. You can't just-"
Lunella rocks on her heels. "S.H.I.E.L.D. wants me," she blurts out, and it's true, sure, but interrupting is a great way to get grounded. Lunella feels out of control. "I've been given three seperate recommendations for seperate areas of study they're willing to fund me for. And that's not counting the offers I've gotten to study in Wakanda and Hala."
(She doesn't tell her mom that the Wakanda one is for Lunella- which, unlike S.H.I.E.L.D., will require a permission slip- and that Hala is from Kid Khree, making it less than official. What's one more lie to the list?)
"You can't just threaten me-" Adria starts, stops, and pinches her nose. "So, what? I have to let my baby risk her life or you leave us? How is that right?"
"I don't wanna leave," she says, because she doesn't. Because leaving feels permanent, and Lunella can't stand the thought of one day leaning over a building and watching as her mother celebrates another birthday without her. "But I can't stop."
"Yes, you can," she insists. Adria falls to her knees and grabs her shoulders. Lunella feels her jetpack jostle awkwardly as her mom squeezes. Moon Girl's suit isn't really built for close contact. "Baby, you know why I'm doing this, don't you? This isn't a punishment."
"It feels like a punishment," Lunella replies, but somehow this feels worse than just a grounding. She could live with a grounding.
"It's not, sweetheart. I love you. I'm so proud of you. But I'm not gonna have you risk your life."
Lunella blinks back tears. "What happened to one girl can make a difference?"
"One girl can make a difference. But not like this."
"Lu-" Mimi starts, breaking the silence from the rest of the Lafayettes, and Lunella's hands tighten into fists. It's not fair. Mimi isn't getting grounded. Mimi isn't losing her only way to cope. "Maybe you should-"
"No," she says harshly. "I can't stop, Mimi. I can't."
There's a sudden, strong shrieking of metal. Devil lets out a warning as the last scraps of his metal arms give in, falling out of the holster and towards them.
It's instinct. It's her job. Lunella rockets forward and shoves her mother away. The metal lands solidly behind them, just barely clipping her ankle. She lets out the smallest little yelp.
Adria's gaze hardens. "You see? You see? You should never put yourself in harms way like that! What if you died?"
"What if you died?" Lunella echoes back, frazzled. "This is what I do! This is what I have to do!" She gestures frantically to the ripped metal. "You didn't think to run! I did! That's what I'm good at- thinking of ways out of danger!"
Lunella shudders as she remembers Molecule Man's touch. She just forgave the man who almost killed her. A hurt ankle is nothing. "I can't stop," she whispers, like a broken record. "I can't."

Lunella, give me your hand with a strong squeeze, (Because I want to be your friend.)
Adria seeing abit of herself in Eduardo was such a nice surprise.
Makes me wanna know more about her past.
Adria kinda reminds me of Eduardo all the time. For example, they're both bold and care a lot about the people they love, they both adore music, they both can be a lot smarter than people give them credit for, and ect.
I love Adria so much as a character.

The other Lafayettes' reactions to Lunella being Moon Girl are all so great. They really show off their respective dynamics with her.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Now That’s Moon Girl Magic!!!
 One
Tumblr media
In my opinion, Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is one of the best new Disney shows in the 2020s and I’ll calmly make an argument for anyone who thinks otherwise. It has popping color, even poppier music, excellent characters, and strong storytelling all wrapped up in this fun, groundbreaking Disney show. With Season 2 coming out, I thought it was time to share what I got to say about its revolutionary ways and how it may even set the bar for future Marvel projects and even MCU ideas.
The Characters
Tumblr media
Lunella Lafayette, played by former X-Factor contestant Diamond White, is one of the most bombastic but relatable super-genius black girls at the time I write this. I love how her intelligence isn’t just her sole personality trait as she’s confident, sassy, and optimistic. Lunella is still a young teen who worries about fitting in, cares about her family, and tries to be the best person she can be.
I liked that they don’t make her into a bullied nerd like Peter Parker, which would contradict the whole message about protecting her community. She’s still pretty social around her fellow students but doesn’t have that social finesse which makes her have a lot of friends.
She’s a flawed character: she’s over-competitive and obsessed to the point of disregarding her work and other people. She does overcome and learn from those issues in order to become a better person in the end.
Tumblr media
Devil Dinosaur is more than a pet sidekick meant to be cute or the comic-relief. He does get his time to shine from his insecurities of being too big to a fear of jellyfish. With basically growls and snarls made by Fred Tatasciore, Devil conveys a huge range of emotion from joy to sadness to anger.
Tumblr media
Casey Calderon is the best friend and manager of Lunella whose savvy with fashion and social media. She’s pretty much what you expect from the girl who’s into social media as exuberant and charismatic, but never shallow or vain. She genuinely wants to use her skills to help Lunella’s message spread. She’s the support to the superheroics of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur in making the heroes more human in the eyes of the LES.
Tumblr media
Many other characters have not only impacted the story but also the main cast itself with the Lafayette family and various members of the LES.
The Lafayettes have their times to shine in their own ways whether as shoulders for Lunella to get support from or voices of reason that plays into the lesson that she must face. Adria Lafayette acts as a strong moral compass for Lunella to follow like protecting the LES from gentrification. Both James Jr. and Pops aren’t as big as the Lafayette women, but they do get there times to shine throughout the show.
In the finales “O.M.G. Issue 1 and 2”, we get the reveal of Lunella’s grandmother Mimi, played by MCU alum Alfre Woodard, is the Original Moon Girl or O.M.G. who helped build the portal generator that Lunella rebuilt years later. It gives us a deep look into how the super-genius doesn’t fall far from the tree.
The Beyonder, voiced by the famous Laurence Fishburne, is a fun and interesting character that acts more of a reality warping nuisance to Lunella than an actual villain. Combined with Fishburne’s comedic delivery and stylish  animation, the Beyonder is a hilarious trickster learning about humanity the best way he knows: messing with superheroes.
The Villains do create a dynamic with Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur by creating various conflicts both externally, internally, even symbolically. The first villain of the show Aftershock was an electrical villain who literally stole power from the LES, putting businesses at risk of closing, which can be interpreted as someone taking away others’ autonomy from their homes. Another set of villains were the Muzzlers, basically high-powered tech giants wanting to gentrify the LES and take away anything unique from the people. They even “silenced” the people with their tech and rendered them voiceless, but the people prevailed together.
The show not only showcases obscure Marvel characters in new, refreshing ways, but also creates their own stellar ones that put together what it can showcase.
The Animation Style
Tumblr media
The most eye-popping way it stands out is the animation. The colors and style beautifully blends with the music. Every time a fight scene happens, the colors become much more vibrant with heart-pumping music from various artists. You can really tell that the animators put a lot of love and passion into making something both familiar but also standout with its fight scenes.
One of my favorite scenes is in Episode 3 “Run the Rink” with Moon Girl fighting Gravitas to a Childish Gambino song. A Childish Gambino Song! You know that you got a hit when you get a hit song from a famous rapper.
All the musical scenes play into the story in an entertaining way while fueling the animation on a higher level.
The Stories
Tumblr media
Almost every story plays into Lunella’s development throughout the first season from self-love and self-acceptance to fighting for one’s community. One of my favorite episodes is “Hair Today Gone Tomorrow” that perfectly addresses various issues about one’s hair. I think a lot of people, especially black women, can understand how we can get insecure about themselves. “O.M.G. Issue 1 and 2″ highlights how people of color, especially those in STEM fields, were essentially erased from the work they did and all credit was taken from them by the higher-ups. The main villain of the finales Maris Morlak is both a terrifying and relatable person whose motivations are sympathetic in how his work was taken from him and was erased.
What’s Next For Moon Girl?
Tumblr media
With Season 2 coming out of woodworks, I’m hoping to see more adventures, heart, and fly music that elevates Moon Girl to a different level and even set more bars in terms of storytelling and animation for both Marvel projects and even the MCU itself.
