Maini and Novalak secure seats on 2023 Formula 2 grid | Formula 2

The 2023 Formula 2 grid is growing, with two teams announcing driver signings ahead of this week’s post-season test. Clement Novalak will return to Trident for his second F2 season, rejoining the team with who he came third in last year’s FIA Formula 3 Championship. The French-licensed Anglo-Swiss made his F2 debut with MP Motorsport at the end of last year. However he struggled for results in 2022: While team mate Felipe Drugovich became champion, Novalak only scored six times and finished on the podium once. “I’m extremely happy to be heading back to Trident,” said Novalak. “We had an amazing partnership together in 2021 and I’m very proud to be wearing their colours again.” Trident team principal Giacomo Ricci added: “We are proud to welcome Clement Novalak back to our family. He is a driver with undeniable and undisputed value who did really well with Trident Motorsport in F3 and achieving the third position in 2021 championship. “Novalak brings a year of experience with him in F2 and I’m sure he will be able to make an important contribution to the team.” Campos Racing has completed its 2023 F2 line-up by signing Kush Maini alongside series veteran Ralph Boschung. Maini is the younger brother of former F2 racer Arjun, and is coached by Formula Ford legend and Nico Hulkenberg’s former rival Joey Foster. The Indian driver started his car racing career in Italian Formula 4, then tasted success in two years racing in BRDC British F3 before the Covid-19 pandemic arrived and stymied his career progress. He was able to compete internationally again this year, joining the FIA F3 grid with MP and coming 14th in the standings. “I’m super happy to be joining Campos Racing,” said Maini. “I’ve spent some time with the team at their workshop and really enjoyed the atmosphere and the professionalism, looking forward to the three-day test at Abu Dhabi to officially start our relationship together.” Campos team principal Adrian Campos Jnr said Maini is “a very committed, professional racing driver with a great work capacity, so we expect he will be able to complete a strong rookie season next year. He carried out some strong performances in FIA F3 this season and hopefully he will make further improvements in the ultra-competitive FIA F2 championship.” Carlin, Charouz Racing System and MP Motorsport have also revealed test line-ups which hint heavily at who they will sign for 2023. Emerson Fittipaldi’s grandson Enzo and 2022 FIA F3 runner-up Zane Maloney will drive for Carlin this week, while Charouz fields Williams junior Roy Nissany and F3 graduate Brad Benavides. Alongside the already signed Dennis Hauger, MP will run his fellow Red Bull junior and 2022 Prema team mate Jehan Daruvala. Το Ένατο στάδιο του Ράλι Ντακάρ 2019 ήταν η προτελευταία φάση του Ράλι και η τελευταία ευκαιρία για αλλαγές στην γενική κατάταξη.

Η 9η ειδική ήταν κυκλική διαδρομή γύρω από το Pisco στην έρημο Ica από μια ��ντελώς νέα προοπτική. Ξεκίνησε με έναν τομέα 80 χιλιομέτρων αμμόλοφων, ακολουθούμενος από μια σειρά από παράκτιους αμμόλοφους και άλλη μια ακολουθία με τρεις ορεινούς όγκους άμμου στα τελευταία 100 χιλιόμετρα.

Η μαζική εκκίνηση, σε κύματα των 10, ήταν εντυπωσιακή!

Οι Matthias Walkner, Toby Τιμή, Adrien Van Beveren, Pablo Quintanilla, José Ignacio Cornejo, Sam Sunderland, Xavier de Soultrait, Andrew Short, Kevin Benavides Benavides και Luciano ξεκίνησαν την σημερινή ειδική των 313 χιλιόμετρων μαζί.

Οι περισσότεροι από τους αναβάτες που είναι στην κορυφή της κατάταξης δεν ρίσκαραν να πιέσουν παραπάνω από το κανονικό και στο μεγαλύτερο κομμάτι της ειδικής πήγαιναν μαζί, χωρίς να διακινδυνεύουν, αφού τους εχει απομείνει μια μέρα ακόμα για τον τερματισμό!

Ο Michael Metge κεφαλαιοποίησε την συγκρατημένη οδήγηση των φαβορί για να διεκδικήσει την παρθενική νίκη του στο Ντακάρ. Ήταν μια υπέροχη μέρα για τον Γάλλο αναβάτη και την Sherco.

Michael Metge : «Ήταν ένα πολύ μεγάλη ειδική για μένα. Ξεκινήσαμε στη δεύτερη σειρά με τον Daniel Nosiglia και μείναμε μαζί σε όλη τη ειδική, κάναμε κάποια λάθη πλοήγησης, αλλά διατηρήσαμε ένα καλό ρυθμό και τελικά, πιάσαμε την πρώτη γραμμή! Είχα μεγάλο άγχος στο τέλος γιατί η νίκη ήταν πολύ στενή αλλά προσπάθησα να μείνω εστιασμένος και όταν πέρασα τη γραμμή τερματισμού ήταν πολύ ωραία Είμαι τόσο χαρούμενος για την ομάδα γιατί κάναμε πολύ καλή δουλειά. Η μοτοσικλέτα λειτουργεί πολύ καλά και είμαι τόσο ευτυχισμένος γιατί πίεσα πολύ. Είμαι τόσο ευτυχισμένος για όλους τους ανθρώπους που με ακολουθούν, τους γιους μου και τη σύζυγό μου και αφιερώνω αυτή τη νίκη σε αυτούς.»

Ο αναβάτης της Sherco νίκησε τον Daniel Nosiglia κατά δύο λεπτά. Η δεύτερη θέση του Βολιβιανού αναβάτη σήμερα ήταν επίσης η καλύτερη του απόδοση στα τρίτο του Ντακάρ.

Daniel Nosiglia: «Ναι, ήταν μια καλή ειδική για μένα. Στην αρχή ξεκίνησα πρώτα στην ομάδα μου και πέρασα μπροστά στον αγώνα, νομίζω ότι ήταν η καλύτερη μου πορεία στο Ντακάρ, δεν έκανα λάθη πλοήγησης. Σε ένα σημείο είχα μια μικρή πτώση και ο Michael Metge με πέρασε, αλλά ήταν μια καλή ειδική για μένα.»

Ο αναβάτης της Husqvarna, Pablo  Quintanilla ήταν σε καλύτερη θέση από τους διεκδικητές για τη συνολική νίκη στο τρίτο κομμάτι, αλλά τερμάτισε κατά 3m28s πίσω από τον  Metge, στην τρίτη θέση, με το ζευγάρι της KTM Price και Walkner να τερματίζουν  ακριβώς στον ίδιο χρόνο πίσω του στην 4η και 5η θέση.

Ξεκινώντας μια σκληρή επίθεση στους αμμόλοφους του Pisco σήμερα, ο Pablo Quintanilla κατάφερε να μειώσει το χάσμα του στην προσωρινή γενική κατάταξη από τον ηγέτη, Toby Price και δείχνει αποφασισμένος να αγωνιστεί για τη συνολική νίκη αύριο.

Pablo Quintanilla: «Είμαι σε ένα εξαιρετικό σημείο τώρα για να πολεμήσω για τη νίκη και είμαι πραγματικά χαρούμενος γι ‘αυτό. Η εξασφάλιση ενός αποτελέσματος στο βάθρο θα ήταν μεγάλη χαρά για μένα και την ομάδα, αλλά ειλικρινά τώρα το βλήμα μου είναι στο στόχο να πάρω τη νίκη εδώ στο Περού. Η σημερινή ειδική ήταν αρκετά καλή για μένα. Η μαζική εκκίνηση το έκανε πιο ενδιαφέρον. Υπήρξαν κάποιες δύσκολες διαδρομές, αλλά γενικά ένιωσα καλά και κατάφερα να περάσω καλά. Αύριο είμαι αποφασισμένος να τα δώσω όλα  για τη νίκη. Υπάρχει μόνο ένα λεπτό που με χωρίζει από τον Toby Price και η μέρα θα είναι μεγάλη. Ό, τι και να συμβεί αύριο, είμαι πολύ ικανοποιημένος με τις επιδόσεις μου σε αυτό το Ντακάρ. Έδωσα το 100% κάθε μέρα και αυτό είναι το πιο σημαντικό για μένα.» 

Στην 6η θέση τερμάτισε ο κορυφαίος αναβάτης της Monster Energy Honda Team, ο Nacho Cornejo. Ο Χιλιανός ξεκίνησε μια γρήγορη, αλλά επιφυλακτική εκκίνηση, αλλά ήταν σε θέση να πιέσει σκληρά στους αμμόλοφους. Η έκτη θέση του Nacho σήμερα τον έφερε στην 6η θέση συνολικά.

Το αποτέλεσμα μετά την 9η ειδική είναι ότι ο Price έχει ένα προβάδισμα  1΄02΄΄ μπροστά από τον Quintanilla για την τελική ειδική από το Pisco στην Λίμα, ενώ ο Walkner θα ξεκινήσει με 6΄35΄΄ διαφορά στην τρίτη θέση.

Η τελευταία ελπίδα της Yamaha, ο  Adrian van Beveren δυστυχώς έμεινε από κινητήρα σήμερα και ετσι κάθε ελπίδα χάθηκε μόλις 16 χιλιόμετρα από το τερματισμό της 9ης ειδικής.

Η κακοτυχία χτύπησε και πάλι τον αναβάτη της Yamaha αφού για δεύτερη συνεχόμενη χρονιά εγκαταλείπει το Dakar λίγο πριν το τέλος του αγώνα, εξανεμίζοντας κάθε ελπίδα για την Yamaha για έναν τίτλο!

Πέρσι ο Van Beveren τραυματίστηκε στην 10η ειδική και εγκατέλειψε, ενώ φέτος σήμερα στην 9η ειδική ο Van Beveren αναγκάστηκε να εγκαταλείψει με σπασμένο κινητήρα με μόλις 16χλμ. να μένουν ακόμα για το τέλος της ειδικής και ενώ είχε ξεκινήσει σήμερα από την 5η θέση στην γενική και μόλις 9 λεπτά πίσω από τον πρώτο.

Άλλο ένα φαβορί έμεινε εκτός, μόλις μία ημέρα μετά την εγκατάλειψη του Ricky Brabec για το ίδιο λόγο ενώ ήταν πρωτοπόρος της γενικής κατάταξης!

Ο Adrien Van Beveren κατάφερε τελικά να ολοκληρώσει την ειδική. Ο αναβάτης της Yamaha τερμάτισε 70ος, 3 ώρες μετά τον νικητή. Η πτώση στην 14η θέση συνολικά θα είναι το λιγότερο αφού υπάρχει ξ απειλή αποκλεισμού που κρέμεται από πάνω του γιατί ολοκλήρωσε την ειδική πάνω σε ένα pick-up φορτηγό.

Η Laia Sanz  είχε μια ακόμα σταθερή διαδρομή στη σημερινή ειδική. Ξεκινώντας με το δεύτερο κύμα εκκίνησης, η Sanz έμεινε με επιτυχία στην ομάδα, μέχρις ότου ένα μικρό θέμα την έκανε να χάσει την επαφή της. Διόρθωσε γρήγορα το πρόβλημα, και η Ισπανίδα ξεκίνησε πάλι για να ολοκληρώσει τελικά τη ειδική στην 13η θέση. Τώρα βρίσκεται στην 11η της προσωρινής συνολικής κατάταξης.

Laia Sanz: «Είμαι πραγματικά έκπληκτη με το αποτέλεσμα μου μέχρι στιγμής, δεν έχω πιέσει πάρα πολύ σκληρά σε κανένα από τα στάδια, απλά διατήρησα έναν καλό ρυθμό. Είχα ένα μικρό θέμα σήμερα που μου κόστισε περίπου πέντε λεπτά, το οποίο ήταν κρίμα γιατί έχασα επαφή με την ομάδα με την οποία βρισκόμουν. Φυσικά αισθάνθηκα καλύτερα και σήμερα, γι ‘αυτό είμαι ευχαριστημένη γι’ αυτό. Έχουμε μόνο μια μέρα και αρχίζω να ακούω κάθε θόρυβο στην μηχανή και ελπίζω ότι τίποτα δεν θα πάει στραβά. Το σχέδιο είναι να φτάσω στο τέλος και θα είμαι πραγματικά χαρούμενη.»

Ο  Andújar κερδίζει την 9η ειδική και τον Cavigliasso.

Ο Manuel Andújar κατάφερε να νικήσει τον Nicolás Cavigliasso στην 9η ειδική του Dakar 2019 και κατάφερε τη πρώτη του νίκη. Ο νεαρός Αργεντινός ήταν πέντε λεπτά γρηγορότερος από τον συμπατριώτη του σήμερα, αλλά ο Cavigliasso εξακολουθεί να κατέχει ένα προβάδισμα της τάξης της 1 ώρας και 40λεπτων  στη γενική κατάταξη την παραμονή του τερματισμού στη Λίμα.

Producer, composer, and sound designer Cha Blasco presents his debut full-length album, Urania. A wide diversity of influences, relentless vision, and exceptional production converge to make Urania one of the most singular, compelling releases of the year. A musical journey of remarkable breadth and imagination, Urania comprises everything from avant garde electronic music to free jazz to prog metal to synth soundscapes. Despite its diversity, the songs are unified by cohesive rhythmic, emotional, and atmospheric concepts. Dynamic arrangements which frequently diverge into unpredictable territory weave the album into a poignant narrative, the story of a romantic bond slowly deteriorating across twelve musical meditations. Despite this range of influences, the strongest impression Urania leaves on the listener is that it doesn’t really sound like anything that has come before it. With post-modern pop at its core and a diverse range of musics at its fringes, the album’s uncanny explorations of vast musical landscapes and exceptionally realized vision make it an enigmatic, aggressively unique, vital musical statement. In additon to Blasco’s bandmates, Johan Roos Högberg & Linnea Sigurdson, the album features session musicians Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson, Mr. Mister), Jamal Moore (Usher, CeeLo Green), Biggi Vinkeloe (Barre Phillips, Peeter Uuskyla), Eoghan McCloskey (Vex, The Invincible Czars), and Colorado Chamber Orchestra member Michael Weaver. Thomas Blomster (Markus Reuter’s Todmorden 513) contributes additional arrangements and performances as well. Benavides and Day also contribute guitar, bass, live drumming, synth, sound design, and arrangements throughout the album. Well, this is ... quite harrowing, actually. At first glance, it’s just a mildly interesting industrial-prog-rock album with some slightly atonal singing with a tendency to get a bit overwrought.

Then you read about the album and realize it’s about this dude’s stillborn child. And then you feel a little guilty for thinking he was being overwrought.

Some of it’s decidely unpleasant to listen to, and not just because of the subject matter. Dude took an axe to this shit. Can’t blame him, I guess.

Of interest to proggy-rocky fans, the guy from King Crimson plays drums on most of the tracks.

centrozoon - WWTY-Tour memories Pt.1: Adrian Benavides

[This is the first of two guest posts celebrating the release of the new centrozoon album "The Room of Plenty" by providing some context, stories and memories from where this music originated. Adrian Benavides, centrozoon friend and collaborator on various releases, is no stranger to long time readers of this blog. Used to much larger scale touring work, he travelled with us during much of the first leg of our little 2011 tour on which the album was recorded, and is now sharing some of his memories of the time. By a series of devastating events in my personal life intertwined with longstanding collaborations with centrozoon and related artists (the later of which, at the time, I held among the few motivating factors in moving forward at all), I found myself in the midst of a dreary German autumn in the small town of Gütersloh. In this small town I spent three months at Markus Reuter's old flat which had been Iapetus Media headquarters for several years with a considerable amount of help from Bernhard Wöstheinrich. To this point in the timeline of late 2011, I had become familiar with centrozoon back in 2009. While in mixing sessions in Austin with Markus on an unrelated album, he showed me some early rough ideas of a centrozoon album with the rough title of "the weird thing is that I get a boner from this". This record would receive a much shorter title over two years later and would eventually become the first incarnation of the band to feature Tobias Reber. Among a few odds and ends which were never released, I later mixed a much less publicized version of that record of the two which were released as well as the "Fire" sessions which where the first set of live compositions which the band performed as the centrozoon trio of Reuter, Wöstheinrich and Reber.

centrozoon "Boner (AB version)" Under Iapetus Media headquarters' slanted roof constructed with utilitarian windows cracked to fill the flat with the unmistakable crisp autumn chill of Germany, I had observed a small glimpse into Tobias' thorough and seemingly tireless work ethic in managing the small tour on which the band was about to embark in addition to compiling and refining the ideas the trio provided for the crowd funding campaign they later dubbed "Bonestarter". The group never lacked a sense of humor. I offered a few suggestions and words of encouragement here and there while they worked to set up the album release in conjunction with the small "We Will Tongue You" tour. My understanding was that the title came from one of the members' mispronunciation of the word "tongue". I hit the road with them in early November 2011 to offer some light roadie support for a series of performances in the home base of Gütersloh, the neighboring college town Bielefeld, Berlin and a radio appearance in Dortmund. As an added bonus, I got to observe these live performances. Markus had just hit his stride with Stick Men and The Crimson ProjeKct in months past and performed in these centrozoon live composition sessions as a musician often does from becoming something of a road dog. I had worked with Markus on several records in the couple of years prior and was as a result very familiar with his playing and performances. Bernhard had recently contributed some wonderfully textured synth performances to an album I was co-producing with Markus at the time for Specimen 13 which also featured some King Crimson members. I engineered these sessions with Bernhard so I was familiar with his brilliance firsthand going into these centrozoon shows. I had only just met Tobias in person on this trip to Germany and didn't have much of an understanding of what exactly he was bringing to the table though I knew it would be quite special. setup at Theaterkapelle, Berlin

Berlin was a great experience. I had spent a little time there earlier that year to hang with Alex Dowerk whom I had worked with as producer and mixer for his debut ZweiTon album. He made an appearance at the show and even made arrangements for us to spend the night at his flat after the gig. My recollection of the band's performance that night is a bit fuzzy for any real specific technical details though the general impression that stays with me is one of power, confidence and raw energy between the three members of the band as well as mutual surprise and an excitement fueled by uncertainty shared between these three performers and their intimately sized audience. The flow of the performance over the span of the evening felt not unlike a classical recital with its musicians poised and carefully executing even the most seemingly chaotic passages while audience members, perhaps in some sort of hypnotic anti-reaction, reciprocated with our own restraint in allowing these spontaneously conjured compositions to breathe without audible interruption between movements. A standing ovation deservedly erupted at the end of the performance. The following morning, we awoke in Alex's flat to coffee and traditional German pastries and rolls with a spread of charcuterie, soft and hard cheeses, butter and jam as suggested accompaniments. Breakfast with friends is always a treat but particularly so with such simple and efficient yet quietly delicious German food at the table. We said our goodbyes to Alex and met with Tobias Fischer, a journalist, at a local café for a very long interview he conducted with the band and myself. During segments of the interview which were spoken in German, I tried my best to pick up certain words or at least syllable patterns in an attempt to learn through osmosis. In about three years time, I've taken four trips to Germany cumulatively spanning a little less than half a year and I have yet to learn enough of the language to get me through a simple conversation! The guys dropped me back off in Gütersloh as they continued on their journey. I then picked back up with them for the gig there. The show went much like the one in Berlin which is to say very well indeed. on stage in Gütersloh

The following performance in Dortmund was a different experience since this was to be a radio broadcast live in the studio. The guys who seemed to be running the station were not dissimilar to typical American radio producers and personalities. They were a bit weird. Not in a bad way. Just in a passionate music nerd way. This is a comfortingly familiar shade of weird to me as I more closely identify with it myself of course. My mother was a radio personality for many years. One of my best friends used to cut commercial spots and run the board for several stations so I have spent a good amount of time around folks who work in radio beyond my professional engagements in such production. So regardless of the language barrier, I recognized the personalities involved here to a degree. There were Star Wars figures lining the windows in the DJ booth and I found this endearing. I recall the performance from Dortmund feeling slightly less urgent mostly because of the lack of a proper concert setting. There the guys were crammed in this small booth with sterile bright halogen tube lamps suspended in the drop ceiling office grid encased in plastic diffusors. Not nearly as cinematic as an old theater or small club with a projector displaying visuals through the band and onto its towering screen in low light. However, the compositions were just as representative as any of the previous performances I had witnessed from what I can remember.

centrozoon playing in Dortmund One other memory that sticks out to me from that evening is that one of the gentlemen from the radio station had a stack of centrozoon records that he asked the band to sign. For some reason he even wanted me to sign a copy of one of his centrozoon records. It wasn't even one that I had contributed to! I obliged regardless. A few days later, I attended the show in Bielefeld. I remember this performance being particularly outstanding. I felt the entire show to be gripping from start to finish. There was an incredible relentless energy that seemed to be flowing out of them that night. This was the largest venue with the nicest sound system that I had witnessed on this run so far. Perhaps these elements had an effect on their performance. It seemed like they were not only listening very carefully to each other and reacting with their own contributions but also executing musical passages more as a group at this point.

centrozoon playing at Falkendom, Bielefeld That was the last of the centrozoon dates I saw on that tour. I went back to Gütersloh to continue work on other projects and stayed the rest of the year in what was a sort of sabbatical after a very traumatic time in my personal life. Markus invited me to spend Christmas and New Year's with his family. Those days remain fond memories for me at a time when I was near the end of a very long and painful journey and unknowingly near the start of a wonderful new life. centrozoon at Falkendom, Bielefeld
