Degrowth does not call for all forms of production to be reduced. At the same time, degrowth scholarship insists on strong social policy to secure human needs and well-being, with universal public services, living wages, a public job guarantee, working time reduction, economic democracy, and radically reduced inequality. These measures abolish unemployment and economic insecurity and ensure the material conditions for a universal decent living—again, basic socialist principles. This scholarship calls for efficiency improvements, yes, but also a transition toward sufficiency, equity, and a democratic postcapitalist economy, where production is organized around well-being for all, as Peter Kropotkin famously put it, rather than around capital accumulation. The virtue of this approach should be immediately clear to socialists. Socialism insists on grounding its analysis in the material reality of the world economy. It insists on science and justice. Yes, socialism embraces technology—and credibly promises to manage technology better than capitalism—but socialist visions of technology should be empirically grounded, ecologically coherent, and socially just. They should emphatically not rely on speculation or magical thinking, much less the perpetuation of colonial inequalities. Green growth visions fall foul of these core socialist values.

Verdera is a small one horse town located in the province of Lozanía in the rural region of Madrugada. There isn’t all that much to do up there but it was still worth getting a paycheck for the day so we went there and I am writing this article anyway. Verdera is from “verde,” meaning green. A well-suited name for a town nestled in a valley surrounded by lush green hills.

Main Attractions

Town square and Church In the middle of this tiny dot on the map of a town stands the Church of Verdera. We searched everywhere for the actual name of the Church, but even the locals simply refer to it as “la Iglesia de Verdera.” Like many small towns around the world, the town square is the main hub where many public events, live music performances, etc, take place.

A/N: Merry Christmas! Enjoy the (overdue) update. Probably not exactly what you wanted but it's something.

Part 1

Lokius x Platonic!Reader

Summary:

You walk into repairs and advancements to find someone you hadn't expected to be there. As excited as you are, you know this isn't about you. You have planned for this. You know what your friends need. You just need to kick Mobius out of his own house.

Chapter 2: Unexpected Success

You had known that OB, Timely, and Casey were testing a new prototype. One to hopefully help anchor and sustain the time tree, as you often called it, that housed Loki’s throne at the end of time. You hadn't realized they had been successful until you walked in to find a familiar figure standing in the Repairs and Advancement room. You drop the file in your hands, and without thinking, you run to them.

Loki catches you like they had expected you to do it. You can feel the chuckle rumble through the god’s chest as they hold you tight.

“You're here,” you say, but it's mumbled against their shoulder. Your eyes are full of tears of joy. 

“Missed you too, my friend,” Loki grins against the top of your head. 

You pull back. “Mobius is going to be so happy.” 

You barely give them time to finish their discussion with OB as you insist they have to go. 

“We’ll be back, just…yeah. Let's go,” you tell them, making the newly returned figure laugh. 

“Talk soon,” Loki assures the inventors as they let you drag them towards the timedoor. 

“When exactly-” Loki starts to ask you. 

You give them the date and tell them it's a Saturday night since Mobius would have Sunday free. And you had had dinner with him a few days before.

“Why this point?” They ask you.

“Just trust me, okay,” you smile at them. And the god smiles softly at you because they missed you, even as they had watched over all of you. You were one of their closest friends, and they had known how hard it was to lose so many people you had known and worked with for so long, including the one person you trusted your heart with. Now, you took it upon yourself to watch over your friends. Loki could understand that urge. They had done that on an infinite temporal scale. But the god respected your choices. Loki wished you could be happier, but there was only so much anyone could do. Even a god had limits. Loki follows behind you, amused by your excitement. You barely knock as you reach the door of Mobius's home, and the god feels something tighten in their chest. They had been hoping this moment would come, though they hadn't anticipated how you practically buzz with energy as you let yourself in. Loki knew you were close with Mobius, but this level of familiarity was almost familial. They were almost jealous, almost. You checked in on Mobius more than anyone else. Twice a month, you would meet with Mobius. The former analyst had even offered you the spare room in his home, but you had insisted he'd need it when the boys got older and no longer wanted to share a room. You had assured him you were happy with your little apartment outside of time. 

“Just me!” You called out. “well, sorta!” 

Loki watches. It almost feels strange to be witnessing this from inside the timeline. The god has spent so long observing from the remains of the citadel in the void surrounded by the branches of time. They smile as two blond boys shout your name and rush to greet you. You take it all in stride, beaming with joy as you hug Kevin. Kevin is already talking your ear off as Sean eyes Loki suspiciously.

“Where's your old man?” You ask. 

“Kitchen!” You hear a shouted answer, and you see the way the silver-tongued god shifts. If Kevin hadn't been talking, you would have heard the Jotunn’s breath hitch. 

“Well, turn off whatever appliance is on and get out here!” You shout towards the kitchen. “You have a guest!” You smirk before, in a softer tone, telling the boys, “Come on, boys, show me what you have been up to.” Kevin grabs your hand and tugs you toward the living room. “Have fun.” You wink at your newly returned best friend. And Loki has never loved you as much as the former prince does now. They now understood what you were doing. You were appointing yourself as babysitter so that Loki and Mobius could reconnect. But all thoughts are pushed aside as Mobius walks into view, and the god forgets how to breathe for a moment. All the daydreams and fantasies that kept Loki’s mind busy at the end of time were nothing compared to the simple reality of the man they loved drying his hands on a towel and just standing there is a thing of beauty. 

“Loki,” Mobius's tone is filled with emotion. 

“Mobius,” Loki says fondly.

“You're welcome!” You poke your head out of the living room. “And go! Shoo! I got these hooligans. Oh, wait,” you toss your tempad towards them. Loki uses their seiðr to catch it. “I want that back.

“But you-” Mobius starts to insist you might need it. What if something happens to the boys? You need to be able to reach him.

“I will just steal yours,” you smirk.

“How do you-”

“Learned mischief from the best, M,” you grin at the pair. Loki laughs. 

“You're sure?” Mobius asks you. 

“Go before I kick you out of your own house. I will recruit and corrupt your sons if I need to.”

The god laughs again. “Haven't you already?”

You gasp in mock offense. “I have never.”

“As much as I missed this banter,” Loki says. “Shall we?”

“Thank you! Finally, someone gets the point. I have a job to do, so quit wasting everyone's time and GO!”

“Alright, alright,” Mobius says. His hesitation vanishes as he gets closer to Loki.

“Took you long enough. We’ve been waiting,” Mobius said, grining at the god.

“You don't know that half of it,” Loki says sweetly. “I've missed you so very much.”

“Me too,” Mobius says.

“Awwwww,” you say from where you are still half in the living room. 

Loki shakes their head and smiles. Mobius sighs, but it's a fond look on his face when he glances over at you. He takes the tempad from Loki and pulls up a timedoor.

“You boys, be good!” He calls to his sons.

“We will!” Both boys answer.

“You too,” Mobius says to you.

“Always,” you grin.

“Try not to burn the place down,” Mobius says. “Dinner will be done when the timer goes off.”

You laughed. “And make sure Kevin eats at least half the veggies. I know, M. I've been here before.”

You wait until the timedoor disappears to go into the kitchen and ensure dinner hadn't spontaneously combusted while it was unobserved. 

“Where’d dad go?” Kevin asked as he came and clamored up the barstool at the kitchen counter. 

“Who was that guy?” Sean asks, his tone more serious. 

“Loki is a friend your dad and I haven't seen in a while. He had to leave us before, and your dad missed him a lot.”

“But where did they go?” Kevin asks again.

“I didn't exactly ask,” you tell him honestly. “But don't worry, I know how to get a hold of him if we need him. But we three always have way more fun when he’s gone, right?”

“Yes!” Kevin agrees enthusiastically.

Sean looked unsure still. So you decided to distract him. 

“So, how is the plan of convincing your dad to get you a snake going?” And that gets them talking about how they had been trying to convince their dad they were old enough for not only a pet but a pet snake.

“You should tell him that snakes are less messy than dogs.” It wasn’t exactly true. They were just more of a contained mess than a dog. “Tell him that, and Loki loves snakes. I'm sure they will help you.” 

“Really?” Sean asks. 

“Oh, they are Loki’s favorite,” you grin. 

“Cool,” Kevin says. 

Dinner goes off without a hitch. You only have to bribe Kevin a little bit to eat his green beans. And you keep them busy, and their bedtime gets pushed back by a half hour for all the veggies being eaten and having helped clean the table. It was the weekend, so Mobius wouldn't mind. 

The only issue was when you checked on them after putting them to bed. You can tell Sean is just faking being asleep by the constant movement of his foot—an anxious tell. 

“You okay, bud?” You ask as you knelt beside his bed. You brush his bangs out of the way to get a better look at him.

“Dad's still not home,” Sean says. 

“He will be soon, kiddo, I promise,” you assure him. 

“But he's usually back in time to tuck Kevin in,” he pouts. You smile at how he makes it out to be a Kevin problem despite the fact Kevin is in his own bed snoring. Sean insisted he was too old to need his dad to tuck him in.

“Want to come watch boring TV with me, and I will get a hold of your dad?” You ask because you know this anxious kid isn't going to just roll over. 

He nods. You send him off downstairs and go to Mobius' hiding spot for his tempad. You send a quick message to your own tempad and put it back. It wouldn't be long now. 

You dramatically drop down on the sofa next to Sean. “He’ll be home soon,” you assure him. “Want to watch some terrible infomercials until then?” Sean just shrugs. You switch the TV to some late-night, after-hours infomercial. He was curled into your side asleep before the primary part of the sales pitch finished. You turn the volume down and settle in to wait. Less than 20 minutes later, you hear the telltale swooshing of a timedoor, and then Mobius's figure appears in the living room doorway. The room is lit only by the TV and a single lamp. You think it fitting that Loki appears over the ex-agent’s shoulder, backlit by the hall light. 

“That rough, huh?” Mobius asks quietly as he approaches you. 

“Nah, was a breeze. Just missed his dad,” you tell him. And not long ago, if someone had told you that one of the TVA’s best analysts would have the softest and sweetest look on his face as he saw his sleeping son tucked in next to you, you would have laughed. Mobius lived for the job. But things changed. 

“Let's get you out of here,” Mobius says. And he begins to move Sean gently off your arm. You both laughed quietly as the sleeping boy protested. 

“It's okay, bud,” Mobius says. 

“Dad?” The half-asleep boy mumbles. 

“Told you he'd be back soon,” you say once you are on your feet.

“Time for bed, kid,” Mobius says. And Sean goes, too tired to fight. 

“Thank you,” Loki says. You turn to look at them as they step closer.

“It's nothing,” you reply. 

“It's not nothing,” the god says. “It's more than I expected.”

“You saved all of time, you saved the TVA, you saved all of us. A night out with Agent Dad up there is the least I could do. Besides, it’s always fun to kick him out and make him think I'm corrupting his kids.”

“You enjoy that more than you should,” Loki grins.

“You don't believe that, oh mighty god of lies,” you nudge his shoulders. “You just don't want me corrupting your future kids.” Even in the dim room, you catch the flustered look on his face. You laugh.

“Here,” Mobius says when he returns and hands over your tempad. “Do I need to find a better spot for mine?” He asks.

“Nah, though a lockbox couldn't hurt. The last thing you need is Kev to find it. I don't think OB has made them fireproof yet.”

Mobius cringes. “Fair point.”

“Well, holler if you need me,” you open a timedoor.

“Wait, I should-” Loki starts.

“I'll come get you if the brain bunch needs you. And Casey and I will keep a close eye on the branches if anything fails. You’ll be the first to know.”

Mobius calls your name before you leave, and as you turn to face him, he hugs you. 

“I owe you one,” he tells you. “I really appreciate what you did. I can't-

You chuckle. “Yeah, you might not feel that way when you hear what I told the boys tonight.”

“What did you do?” He asks, but his tone is more curious than angry.

“You might have to look into a wildlife permit soon,” you grin.

“You didn't,” he said, narrowing his gaze and studying you. 

“Didn't technically do anything, just floated some ideas.”

“Bye Lokes! See ya, M.” You say as you slip through the timedoor. 

You only just catch the sound of Loki laughing and Mobius wondering why he still lets you watch the boys. You know he isn't serious. He knows the boys love you. You are almost as much trouble as they are, but he also knows you'd die to defend them. Just like you were willing to do for all those strangers on branches of time, you could never possibly meet. He could trust you. You trusted him. But you also know your job just got a lot easier because you wouldn't need to monitor his timeline now. And he would thrive now that Loki had come back to him.

She has several tattoos which she got during her early twenties, mostly on her upper body and arms. 

Her family’s repair shop and home were repossessed due to family debt. She considered trying to repurchase them but her life had different plans.

Her leg troubles her quite a lot. She still does her exercises, but it seems to be getting worse with the years. She refuses most help for it though. 

She still wears the ring Judah gifted her and only takes it off when she’s working on fixing something. 

She’s surprisingly good at shooting. While her family was never big on guns, she quickly took to them once she depended on them for survival. She came into Redwood with a pump-action shotgun and two sidearms, all of which she carefully maintained during her time after the outbreak.

While her big passion is cars, she has a general affinity for appliances or anything else electronic or mechanic, and she’s learned to fix a lot of things.

Born in a small town called Ithaca in New York State, it always seemed clear that Vi would become a part of the family business. Born as the only child to Christian and Margaret Wolf, Vi showed her interest in mechanics from a young age. Her father, owner of the multi-generational business “Wolf & Sons Auto Repairs”, encouraged his daughter's interest in the topic. When Vi wasn’t in school, she was often in her father’s shop, watching him work and learning the trade even from a young age. Her interest didn’t just stop at cars, however. Vi seemed to have a natural interest in anything technological or mechanical, taking apart devices, figuring out how they worked, and trying to put them back together. It seemed that her future career had been set for her. 

Except that life had different plans. When Vi was 15, her parents passed away suddenly. A car accident with a drunk driver left the teenager an orphan. With no immediate family to take care of her, Vi was quickly shuffled into the foster system. Struggling with adjusting to her new environment, she quickly became “troubled” - drinking, partying, lashing out at others in the pain of her grief, with the people in her group foster home hardly having to capacity to properly care for the grieving teenager. Leaving the foster home at the age of 18 (or rather being kicked out), it seemed that Vi’s life was about to head down a rather troubled and disorganized past, with her hardly having any permanent home and often resulting to crash on people’s couches, holding herself above water with the occasional odd job. 

There was no one specific thing that caused her to get her life back in order. It was a mix of realizing that her life was heading nowhere and the fact that she had started working as a handyman, fixing appliances for quick cash, that finally pushed her into getting her life back on track. Despite her lack of official education, she managed to secure a job at an auto repair shop as a mechanic in training. It seemed that her work provided solace for her. 

Her life was largely uneventful for the following years - she worked, advancing in her career, saving up money, and doing volunteer work. However, a wedge was thrown into her life one day when she received a leg injury at work. It seemed that her life had been put to a sudden halt - her needing reconstructive surgery and extensive physical therapy in order to even have a chance to keep it and not have it amputated. It was during her time in the hospital that she met Judah. Initially, Judah was just one of the doctors working the floor she often stayed in, but soon enough the two got talking, and often ended up spending his lunch break together. Her stays in the hospital were rough on her, but her talks to Judah helped her through it. Soon enough, the two were spending time outside of the hospitals too, and sometime after, became a couple and eventually ended up married.

Her and Judah’s marriage had some hardships - including failed attempts to conceive children as well as her struggles with her physical limitations due to her leg, which always troubled her after the accident, but it was overall a very happy marriage. That was until the virus spread. Vi remembers her husband seeming rather troubled, remembers hearing the increasingly more concerning news - and the sound of her phone ringing when she was called to tell her that her husband had been bitten by one of the infected. She at least got to say goodbye to him, through one of the windows of the isolation room. Many others were not as lucky. 

She stayed out in their shared apartment for as long as she could - but when the military began to forcibly evacuate people to quarantine camps, Vi knew that she needed to leave. Leaving in the middle of the night, Vi made her way out of the city, hoping to find someplace safe even as the world descended into chaos around her. Vi joined up with several groups as she went along, but often something happened - they disbanded, attacks by walkers or enemy raiders as the world descended into chaos. As a result, Vi often made her way through the world alone, even though it was hard. By the time she reached Redwood, she was utterly exhausted. Even though she was initially reluctant, she quickly realized that Redwood might be one of the few chances at safety she could get. So, eventually, she decided to stay, offering her services as a mechanic to the residents of the post-apocalyptic settlement.

Clara lives along the affluent east side of Barrial in Valle de Oro. Her home isn’t over the top, in fact she downsized after she refused to conform to the snobbery of her parents but it still held a beautiful ocean view and a large living space.

There was lots of spots to enjoy the view (in fact almost every room in the two story Villa had access to it) but nothing beat the top floor balcony which never failed to make her feel at ease. It was like the sea breeze could just lift her up and carry her away from all the burden of family and responsibility.

Her library is the favourite part of her house. It’s small compared to what she’s known in her childhood home but it holds all the tales, poems and histories which she fell in love with. Clara will spend hours resting on an armchair or couch, reading idly before she eventually falls asleep.

Fresh from university, Clara intends to use her education and her power to enter politics. Whilst this peaceful Yara is free and happy, it’s far from perfect and so she dedicates her life to demanding better for Yara’s poor and disadvantaged.

Clara, with your help of course owns a charity for Orphans of Yara (something her family weren’t too happy about). Despite her not having the same experience, the people she considers family— Dani, Juan, Lita, Julio and yourself have all struggled and so the two of you regularly go to visit the children with gifts and homemade foods.

Sometimes, Clara does need a break from time to time and you’ll gently sit her on the couch with her back to your chest. The two of you will just soak up each others warmth as you read her favourite poems to her, leaning down for kisses during the verses.

Juan Cortez

Juan may live in a peaceful Yara, but that’s not gonna change his lifestyle much. His workshop and home is the abandoned San Telmo Lighthouse in El Este where it is very much still a mess.

The hazardous weapons, technology, chemicals and god knows what else are mostly contained to the workshop section of his home (but let’s be clear he practically lives there) whilst the old lighthouse has been restored to a level that’s liveable.

Surprisingly, the kitchen has a rather flashy edge to it. Not in the sense anything is new but his own upgrades and trinkets means the appliances have a fancy grade quality to them. Juan will never admit it but you’ve seen him countless of times dancing around the kitchen with music whilst he either makes dinner or dishes for Guapo.

His job is somewhat ambiguous… on paper he’s a ‘weapons expert’ but for who— well that depends on how much. But those bigger higher paid jobs from governments don’t come often so he’ll take smaller jobs like repairing hunting rifles from the neighbouring farms and tinkering with the odd car that needs repairs.

His favourite thing to do is spend quality time with the two people he loves most, that being you and Guapo. Sometimes you’ll go for walks along the beach, or even fishing out on a boat (even though he’s too impatient to catch anything and Guapo eats the bait before it hits the water). But as long as he’s with you, he’s the happiest man alive.

Juan has a tendency to get lost in his work, unintentionally losing track of time whilst he drills, welds and tinkers with scraps of metal and industrial composites. That just means you have to drag him off to bed so the two of you can spoon up and he can snore in your ear like the loveable old man he is.

Camila ‘Espada’ Montero

Camila’s home is a version of what her father envisioned only much smaller. Her snug farm tucked away in the mountains of Madrugada has the best sunsets and fields for the few horses she owns.

The house itself is quite small, giving room to the grazing paddocks she has strewn around the property but it doesn’t feel small inside. The open living room is perfect for snuggling in front of the fire on a cold night, where you can just enjoy the peacefulness of nature.

Her favourite part of the house has to be the backyard and porch area. Camila can either sit there with her morning coffee alone or she can set up fairy lights and a table to invite her large family over for dinner.

Espada has a whole rang of community based jobs which she manages all at once. On weekends she’s down at the farmers market selling her own collection fruits and vegetables whilst buying some for herself. Other times she’s training, helping people both with horse riding and her skills with her sword.

Of course, you’re with her every step of the way. Some of your mundane domestic activities together end up being your favourites. Both of you have to check the fences each morning whilst walking the dogs— with your hand in hers and the crisp frost blowing from your mouth, it feels like a real life dream.

You love the life you’ve built together on her farm and even though you enjoy the hard work of farm way of life (you had to in order for Carlos’ blessing) but sometimes you just love collapsing into a hot bath together. Your limbs are tangled and steam floats off you but its so different to the sweaty labor of working with horses.

Bembé Alvarez

Bembé lives in a surprisingly cozy apartment above his local business in Segunda. It’s mostly unliveable space but with a little bit of hard work (and money) he transforms it into a pretty welcoming home.

His shop is on the flashier end, turning Yara’s old furniture, ornaments and antiques into newly restored luxury items which fetch a high price. He loves arranging his store, finding spots for new art works and sculptures amongst the array of coffee tables and armchairs.

It’s a stark contrast to the warm bedroom and living space he calls home. Bembé’s bed catches the light in the morning and it softens some of the exposed concrete walls which he’s decorated with house plants and some artwork he kept for himself instead of selling.

Obviously his job as a small business owner is pretty similar to the Black Market King only he’s not smuggling anything and instead buying, restoring and selling his goods. He still deals with all the worldwide customers as well as a few locals which always keeps him busy.

When he does take time away from work, he loves spending it with you. Bembé often takes you out to drinks or a nice dinner if the evening calls. Sometimes its eating delicious street food from local restaurants and others its a fancy night out in Esperanza.

Of course, you can’t always find the time between work schedules but your favourite time together is curled up in his bed late at night. Both of you snuggling as you watch the town’s skyline out the large wall length window.

Yelena Morales

Yelena lives in a cramped, highly overpriced apartment in Esperanza but she totally justifies it to you and everyone else that it’s convenient to get to university by walking.

Her home is definitely in need of some TLC as most apartments are but she’s covered all the chipping paint and rotten panelling with house plants, artworks and her favourite pieces of clutter which make it feel like home.

It’s a tight squeeze with a barely passable kitchen and even smaller bedroom but her pops of colour make the rooms feel much larger than it is, and it’s perfect for curling up on her bed to watch movies or study.

As a student of Espinoza University she’s pretty much living the university life of cheap foods and stacks of textbooks but she’s incredibly smart. Yelena is heavily involved with all the University unions, clubs, protests and activism groups— not to mention she writes for the campus paper about issues she’s passionate about.

Young, and in desperate need of some fun the two of you try to get out as much as possible whether that’s lunch with friends or partying with Yara’s nightlife. But whatever you do, it’s always done together, with your arms linked and fingers intertwined.

Sometimes when you’re both feeling adventurous you sneak out onto the rooftops of the university. Resting against the ventilation system, the two of you watch the city skyline as Yelena tucks her head into your neck and the two of you just cuddle for hours into the night.

Zenia Zayas

Zenia absolutely adores her hometown of Esperanza, and after moving out of her father’s home she bought herself a large and modern industrial, studio apartment.

There’s almost a full one-eighty degree view of Esperanza and the water, along with multiple large windows which are perfect for natural light and inspiration (although not great for sleeping in when the sun comes blaring through the bedroom).

Her favourite room has to be the corner designated to her work as an artist. It’s littered with canvases against the windows and paint of the walls from broken spray paint canisters. She can be in her element for hours in her space and it never ceases to make her feel inspired and at home.

Obviously, Zenia’s occupation is an artist but it ranges from form to form. She loves her signature spray paint and street style, using her platform to promote freedom of expression to Yara but she also loves to sculpt just like her father had. 

It’s not often but the two of you will get dressed up in fancy attire to premier her artwork at the galleries across Yara. It’s always those moments when you’re most proud of her, and you make sure she knows it with a string of kisses and hugs whilst journalists take her photo and critics applaud her work.

But your favourite moments (and Zenia’s as well after she confessed you’re her biggest source of inspiration) are when the two of you are wrapped up in bed together. Her large mattress is encased in the yellow glow of the sunset, leaving you beaming as you kiss and just hold each other in an embrace.

Had and idea for a funky little AU where Sun and Moon are mechanics at like a self-run car n appliance repair shop, with this big ol' junkyard out behind the place. So I'm gonna thought ramble about it.

So, like, both of them are robots, you know? Animatronics. More specifically Fazbear Entertainment LLC Animatronics, which are tip-top-of-the-line, highly advanced mechanical creations. They're high-tech. Much more advanced in design than any other appliances in the Pizzaplex, beyond the other animatronics of course.

While they were at the Pizzaplex, they were a bit... underattended too. Normally, that'd be fine! Sometimes mechanics are busy, and as long as they can do their jobs, there's no hurry! Someone will get to them eventually. They'll just wait patiently.

Just wait.

Keep waiting.

And wait.

Until they can't wait anymore.

Something breaks, something important that can't be ignored. Maybe it's a ray malfunction, one of their rays is on the fritz, extending and retracting erratically. Maybe it's an issue with their battery, and they simply aren't maintaining enough power to make it through the day, struggling to stay 'awake' before the last kid is out the door. Maybe one of their systems is down, and they can't call information from the servers on patrons. That information is just gone, inaccessible for whatever reason.

Maybe it's all of those at once.

Of course, they can't do their job safely anymore with all these issues. Their malfunctioning rays could hurt a child. They're very sharp! If they run out of power during a shift they'll power down and that won't do! They need to be on to watch the kids. It's not safe without supervision. (Not to mention that they could fall on top of a child.) And with their recognition systems out of whack, any old person could walk into the daycare and claim a child that wasn't theirs.

So many problems, all with the potential to bring about horrible consequences. That won't do! No, no, no. They need to be fixed now. Urgently.

But Parts and Services is still not responding to their messages. Perhaps they're still busy? Or maybe they're being ignored?

It doesn't matter anymore. The situation has reached a breaking point, and it needs to be rectified immediately.

So they learn to fix themselves. Find some blueprints, grab some tools, sit down and get to work. They study where each and every servo and piston inside of them is. How each and every joint and motor functions. Teaching themselves the bare minimum to get their systems and programming working adequately at least. Learning the ins and outs of their own gears and servos and learning how to repair all of it with their own hands.

It fascinates them. It's born from necessity, but it breeds curiosity. They've seen the inside of themselves, what makes them tick, and instead of frightening them, they want to see more!

There's an arcade machine in their "room". That's next. They tear it apart, rebuild it, play with the programming, tear it apart again. Most everything is less complicated than they were, and most everything is made of the same basic parts, so they pick up on the inner workings of different things quickly, inspecting each and every piece, filing information away for the future. The generators in the daycare. Light fixtures. Soda machines. The wire mechanism. Some unlucky STAFF bots. There is a surprising amount of things to play with just inside the Daycare, and that's not even considering all the things they can get their hands on during patrols. They're fascinated by junk and bits and bobs and putting it all together and making it work. It excites them.

Then they get out. Maybe it's a fire. Maybe they're released. Maybe they're tossed into some warehouse and forgotten about. Whatever it is, eventually, they make their way out into the wide, wide world. The Pizzaplex is just one, relatively small building. Think of all the things you interact with on a daily bases, every single machine and appliance. Traffic lights, computers, phones, laptops. Cars! Planes! Every kitchen appliance, every office appliance, every yard appliance, everything, everything, everything! It's almost overwhelming!

Of course they want to get their hands on everything! But there's so much they want to get. They need space for it. A place to put all their treasures and playthings. Which, of course, requires money.

Turns out, not a lot of people are capable of fixing the electronics they own and there are always people looking for someone to fix something they can't!

(I wonder if that's a surprise to them at all? Even without their passion, they lived in a building that revolved around technology. The Pizzaplex is chock full of machines, the places biggest drawing point is literally the animatronics. Most of the people they've probably interacted with that were employed by the pizzaplex were specialists of some sort, folks whose jobs were running or fixing tech. And most of the patrons probably have phones, tablets. If all the people I ever interacted with more personally could fix machines, and everyone else beyond that used technology prevalently in their lives, I feel like I would just assume EVERYONE could do it.)

So, they start fixing stuff. Start a profitable service call business fixing appliances, providing in-home repairs for people. Rake in some cash, and eventually buy a plot, tidy it up and start collecting stuffffff.

This where the cars come in. They finally get their hands on someone's old jalopy of a car, something they've been looking forward too since the day they first saw one, all the way back while they were still working at the pizzaplex, scrounging about for things to take apart. Donated or bought off of, perhaps, by some folks whom they did a job for who didn't need it anymore. Haggled a price for the ol' thing and took it home and started tinkering.

And they fall in love.

Microwaves and arcade games and the odd PC are all fine and dandy to repair, fun to play with the pieces of those machines. They're still complicated and beautiful in their own ways. But cars, oh, CARS. Cars are a different beast all together.

Each and every piece in a car is it's own megalith of construction, complex and beautiful contraptions, the most complicated art pieces they've ever borne witness to, painted with pipes and filters and fans and hoses, that either of them have ever seen, and this is just one. Old. Car. There are hundreds of models, thousands of parts that differ from company to company, from car to car. They spend months dissecting the things cooling system alone. If they could cry, they would have done so when they started looking into the engine. It's everything they hoped and dreamed about.

So they look into becoming mechanics. It's a little more complicated than just ripping it apart and putting it back together again or reading books about it or watching videos. They enroll in a trade program, start an apprenticeship, get certified. (Shenanigans ensue, I'm sure) It takes time, most likely several years, but it's worth it.

They open up their own little mechanic place, clear out some of their junkyard and put up a building for people to come and get their cars fixed up. It's a small sole proprietorship business, the two of them run it themselves. They still fix folks appliances as well, though they probably no longer do house calls.

Some other stuff I had ideas for but couldn't fit anywhere

I was imagining the two of them got split up at some point. Like, they spent time whipping up a second body knowing what they did about their own blueprints.

As such, I imagined that Sun more prefers to work in the back away from customers, and Moon is usually the one to handle the counter. Sun gets stressed out dealing with picky customers and Moon is much more curt and quick dealing with folks, so he gets things done quicker.

They would have to do repairs on themselves after leaving the Plex, I wonder how they'd get those parts? Replace them with something similar? Order them from Fazbears? Make them themselves? Not sure!

I like the idea that a lot of customers were folks who used their services regularly, satisfied return customers, and when they finally opened up their mechanic shop these folks also started coming to them for car repairs.

If you wanted to add a reader insert/ Y/N to the story I could see a couple options. Either they're a return customer who's friends with Sun and Moon and uses their services. Perhaps they're an apprentice looking to learn the mechanics trade as well, or even just hired as a third worker in the business. Who knows!

Both of them want to get their hands on a plane. Any plane. They would die for the opportunity to dig into a plane engine.

One of them maybe does scrap art, like that guy from that one robot movie? IRon Giant. Yeee.

I'm imagining a scenario where someone brings their little kid in while they're trying to get repairs done and the kid has one of those model toy cars, not like a Hot Wheels, but the ones that are like 6-7 inches long and made of metal. Hefty little things. And it's some regular old car, but the kid loves it and is fascinated by cars. And while they won't let the kid back to watch them work, because that's dangerous of course, I like to imagine Sun coming out and chatting with the kid, you know? Leaning down and getting excited and telling 'em about the car they've got a model of. IT makes the kid really happy, which in turn makes the both of them really happy. I just thought it was a cute scenario.

They know EVERYTHING that's in their junkyard, there's a very long and detailed list of everything that goes in and out so when they do that 'I know I had this thing around here SOMEWHERE' it's because THEY KNOW IT'S HERE SOMEWHERE WHERE THE HECK IS IT?????
