9/20 assignment
The world around us is honestly all technologically based. If we look at what we do from day to day, our day normally starts with looking at our cell phones whether it be to see what time it is, turning off our alarms, seeing our notifications, or looking to see if we received the beloved email “CLASS IS CANCELLED.” It is safe to say our world revolves around technology. In chapter 5, Sebler was making a point to say how important it is for educators to incorporate technology into their curriculum. He made points to talk about the computer technologies that there are today and the roles that they play in education. If we think about the amount of times we actually have to submit a paper or homework in person on the teachers desk, that answer is slim to none. Everything today is online. ESU has D2L and that is a big deal as we can upload assignments, see what we have to do for each class, get reminders on when an assignment is going to close or if we have a quiz coming up, everything is right there. I am not saying that D2L is completely user friendly, but once you get used to how to navigate it, life becomes a little easier. There are some professors that do not even know how to work some of the newer technologies and then there are some that know more than most students know. That is something that needs to change. Taking the time to learn how to work the newer technologies can be very beneficial to not just the students, but to the professors as well as they can sharpen up their skills. Every class is different and each teacher likes to teach in different ways or have their students submit things in a different manner, regardless, there is technology implemented in some way. Like I said, the world around us is evolving and if we have professors that are up to date and know how to use the up and coming advances and can teach us how to properly use them and navigate them so we can be more successful in the future with whatever career path we go down. I was spoiled in high school because we had an all online system where we submitted everything and we did everything on our own laptops. I came from knowing how to maneuver through a whole website, to coming into ESU with D2L and not knowing how to use anything because no one showed me how to use it. I know that with my major there are constantly new technological advances, such as the new Anatomage table in Koehler Fieldhouse, and without professors that knew how to work that new machine, I wouldn’t know how to work it.
Tumblr media
I used linguistic and visual because using both of these helps get my point across. Using linguistic, I can describe what I want to say through words and with the visual aspect, I can use a GIF that can describe what I was trying to say. I think this GIF works because it shows a common face people make when a professor tells us that we should already know how to do something or use a tool when we have no idea how to use it but are too afraid to say that we don’t.

Advanced composition introduction!
Tumblr media
My name is Regina Wilson and I am a junior majoring in athletic training. After I graduate in next spring (hopefully) I plan on attending graduate school here at East Stroudsburg University. When I’m not studying or in class I enjoy hanging out with my friends and family, being down the shore as well as taking as many naps as possible! I love meeting new people and excited to see what this class teaches me and brings into my academic career! At the moment my roommate and I are obsessed with a song from Glee which we listen to about 100 times everyday so enjoy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-uLll_cZHs) (yes we are corny and yes it’s a tab sad but it gets us through our days so..)

Placement
I have always planned on having this sort of overlay on this video however Tay mentioned something very valid, when the overlay is at the bottom like most news shows, it covers the patch I have tracked onto the coat (where it’s circled)
So i’ve moved it up to the top and it looks a bit weird, also the actual colours look weird because it’s top saturated but this is how news overlays actually look so I’m not sure, I might change the colour to make it match better

Conclusion
This project was a huge stress for me. I simply could not wrap my head around Nuke. I made sure I gave myself enough time as i know that has been my downfall previously but despite my best efforts I did not get along well.
I got to th stage where I did a few things that i liked and then every time I tried to render, nuke crashed. I tried 5 different computers and multiple project settings, crashed every time. In the end i just handed in the project files as i’d rather hand in something than nothing.

the first day i saw you, i knew i had to have you. something about the way you moved your hair out of your face when you talked, or the way you got kinda self-conscious when i looked you in your eyes made me fall in love with you.

Reflection 1
For this week we had to read two different pieces that are both focused around African American literacy. The first reading was by Frederick Douglas; “Learning to read and Write”, and the second reading was by Shevaun Watson; “Good will Come of the Evil”. My first thought after reading these to pieces were sadness, I really just felt so much sympathy for the authors and the characters. It is really crazy to read pieces from the past and to compare to the present because it shows how much has changed but how there is still evil. I think progress comes in one step at a time and it will always be like that. One of the things that really effected me the most was how education and literacy was just a way of showing you had power. Shevaun Watson and Frederick Douglas discussed how African Americans were not given any education. It makes you reflect on how education is now and how everyone is given a chance for free public education. Readings and past stories like these really give me such a different perspective and help open my eyes on the world today.
“A little learning, indeed, may be a dangerous thing, but the want of learning is a calamity to any people.” -Frederick Douglass

10/16 assignment
As we have discussed throughout the semester, everyone is on some form of social media whether it be Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. The article Sustaining Critical Literacies in the Digital Information Age: The Rhetoric of Sharing, Prosumerism, and Digital Algorithmic Surveillance had some very interesting points when it comes to social media. It all started in 2004 and there was a social media platform called Friendster, basically like today's Facebook, where you could connect with friends, post whatever you wanted, and make connections. This was a big start to how social media came to be. Prosumerism was a big theme throughout the reading and how there are 3 waves to prosumerism. The first wave was during the agricultural revolution, the second wave was during the industrial revolution and the third wave is the information age. These waves were created and advanced to expand and increase social order. The third wave is where we are now, the do it yourself era. There are so many ways to do things yourself as you can look anything up on the internet and figure it out. When you get something that you need to build, there are instructions that come with it so you don’t need to go and hire someone else to do it for you. People go on social media to buy things and look at things and that is where things get a little creepy. There is an algorithm that is used to determine how much time you spend online, what you look at, what interests you, etc. and then that is all you see. Sometimes you don’t even have to look something up, you could just talk about it, and the next time you open social media, there it is. In the video, the main topic was about false beliefs and with this mixed in with social media can make the world a scary place which is why you cannot always believe what you read on the internet. Everything can be swayed some way or be biased and misconstrued that you don’t know what to believe. The main points here are that social media is much bigger than we think, we use it more than we realize, and we need to not be as consumed with it as we already are. The world is so much bigger than what we think the world looks like on a tiny little screen.
Tumblr media
I used visual and linguistic because I like to express myself through words and then use a visual to depict what I mean. I used this GIF because it goes with the theme of false belief and how people can use social media to create a facade and act one way than they do in real life. There is so much more to people than what they post on social media and everyone needs to realize that.

Maya Additions
I have added a bit of cardboard along the floor and a few boxes, this is easy to change but I’m just trying to get the perspective right before I bring it into PS and add contact shadows, normal shadows, play with colour and lighting.

9/27 assignment
In chapter 9, the main connection was on science and rhetoric. I thought that this was interesting because I never realized how much rhetoric was used in everyday things. Rhetoric is a tool that is used to help be more persuasive and this becomes helpful when it comes to theories. Scientists have to persuade different audiences to believe or see their work and with the use of rhetoric that becomes easier. We saw some main focuses so far about rhetoric being used in the media, but never really saw it used in the scientific way. I know that being an athletic training major, scientific rhetoric is interesting and makes you think a little differently. A big point in the reading was the difference between metaphor and metonymy and the biggest difference was that metonymy comes up with 2 ideas from one place while a metaphor has two ideas that come from two different places. I thought that it was interesting to see the connection between the two of them. Rhetoric is used every single day and in many different forms. It can be used in English like how we use it, or in the scientific form which the reading highlighted. The two forms i used was linguistic and visual because as I have said in my previous posts that I like to talk about things in detail but then when you add the visual aspect, it gives the points you are trying to convey, more meaning to it.

9/25 assignment
With the readings Multimodal Composing and Women, Rhetoric, and Politics on Pinterest, I found them both to be very informative and interesting. In the first reading, it was mainly talking about writing styles and how everyone is different. Writing can also come from anywhere at any time so writers should be prepared. Some people prefer to write on paper while other writers are strictly technological and that is okay. In my opinion, I think there are certain times to write on paper and other times to write on the computer, phone, etc. When I write on paper I feel it is more therapeutic because you can get more of your thoughts down and the visual of seeing your actually writing is very heartwarming to me. When it comes to writing a paper or something else along those lines, I type everything because I am a faster typer than I am writer. Certain writers can also only work in certain spaces. Some people need to be around the hectic chaos that is today’s world to be inspired while others need to be by themselves and have time to process and think. The other reading really caught my interest in the topic of gendered rhetorical spaces. I thought that this was interesting because I know that I used Pinterest, Instagram, twitter, snapchat just as much as guys do. Yes it is more surprising if a boy is on Pinterest as that is where girls get a lot of their creative ideas, but that does not mean that it is biased to one gender. Social media today is an all-inclusive world where anyone can use it to be who they are. Yes there are times where we put on an act because we think others will like us better if we use this filter or if we wear this outfit, but there are times where people are just themselves regardless of their gender.
Tumblr media
I used linguistic and visual as my writing styles because I can describe what I mean in words and the visual adds to what I am trying to say. The visual helps as I wanted to make the point that we try to put on an act when it comes to social media and we shouldn’t. We shouldn’t be afraid to be who we are and do what we want to do without worrying about who likes it and who doesn’t, all that matters at the end of the day is what we think of ourselves.

9/4 assignment
This weeks assignment was to read Spaces for Writing as well as another article that showed you the different types of multimedia. Something that I found interesting that the author in Spaces for Writing pointed out, is that every writing starts as a blank page. You have a clean version of something that you can create in any way you want whether it be pictures, videos, GIF’s, music, audio, whatever it may be, you have the power to do it. Everyone thinks the writing process is so simple and easy. That it is just an opening, a middle, and a conclusion with some good hooks to keep you engaged throughout, but there is so much more to that. In Spaces for Writing, the author made it like a comic strip that immediately grabs your attention. Writing isn’t just writing something down with pen and paper, in today’s world, it is writing a caption on social media, texting someone who is in the same room as you, writing an email to your professor, whether we realize it or not we are constantly writing. I loved the way the article made that known. Writing can start from anywhere, on any type of media, and can take you anywhere.
I thought that this writing made things so much easier to understand such as ethos, pathos, and logos as it broke it down so that we understood the basics of what each of them meant and do. This is important to know because when we are trying to write something, we are thinking about the audience we are trying to reach and relate to and we wouldn’t be able to do that without ethos, pathos, and logos.
The GIF that I chose was Spongebob trying to write a paper and he is stuck on the word ‘the’ and he cannot figure out what to say, how to start it, or anything. I think that that relates to one of the themes in the article because we start out with a blank page and from there, who knows where inspiration will take us. I also used visual and linguistic because i was able to express my thoughts through words and in pictures

9/6 entry
As everyone knows, doctors don’t always have the neatest handwriting which can cause confusion with the patient and sometimes even the doctor as they don’t even remember what they wrote or they can’t read what they wrote. In the article The Primary Care as Writing Space article, a lot of this was touched on. One of the best things that happened in health care was getting everything online rather than having it all written out. No one really thinks of it as writing because they think of it as just doctors notes but this article expressed that. A big problem with the healthcare system was that because of miscommunications, there were people that were unable to be treated due to not being able to read that patients file. Communication is key in an relationship whether it be professional or personal. When things are written down clear and concise, everything is easier to understand for every party. I’m very happy that the healthcare system changed their ways and made things electronic as it will help out with my profession as an athletic trainer.
I picked this GIF because this is what I think doctors would say when they try to read someone’s terrible handwriting where they cannot understand what is going on with their patient.

10/2 assignment
For this post we had to read .... It highlighted how digital rhetoric is a very hard topic to grasp and understand and that even scholars have a hard time explaining it and breaking it down. We make points in class and say that digital rhetoric is all around us and it is something that is hard to understand. I think it is a little easier for us to understand what is going on and what digital rhetoric actually is because we are in the digital era. We do everything online and digital rhetoric has to deal with technology and how people use it basically. We are spoiled with this because it makes everything easier  and quicker as opposed to writing things down with pen and paper and having to hand things in that way. We have talked about rhetoric so much I think it is safe to say that no one will ever be able to explain it perfectly or understand it perfectly, but it is something that is important in our technological world and if this is what it is like today, who knows what the future holds.
I used visual and linguistic because it gives me an opportunity to explain everything in text and then represent everything i was saying in the text in a different way that can grab peoples attention

Hi, my name is Emily Duggan and I am a sophomore majoring in Athletic Training. I am currently in Sigma Sigma Sigma and serve as the Philanthropy Chair for my sorority. After I graduate in 2022, I hope to go on and get my masters in Athletic Training as well as a dual degree in Physical Therapy so that I can work either at the professional level or division I. Somethings that I enjoy are watching Netflix, hanging out with my friends and family, listening to music, sleeping, watching Impractical Jokers and Gilmore Girls, playing soccer, or dancing. A fun fact about me is that people often think that I play Debbie Gallagher on the ShowTime show Shameless.
