Its funny ig that i ended up where i am bc i shipped cloud and sephiroth, which i still do obvs. But it's literally that in reading sefikura fics, i would read about this zack character, and oml bless fanfic authors bc they always wrote him so well that i liked him without even knowing him from the games yet lol. That basically led me to crisis core and cc led me to zackseph lmao

Do you like Aeriseph? What are your thoughts on the ship and the old lovers concept story draft

It's a good pairing, although I don't ship them myself. Nothing against it, I just don't see them that way. Aerith and Sephiroth would've understood each other better than the characters had they crossed paths earlier and in a less gruesome way. But I prefer to see them as chaotic siblings/friends that never were, and never would've been because if Shinra allowed it, it would not have been with good intentions. They would've been an unstoppable duo lmao.

As for the old lovers draft, I'm glad they scrapped it lmao. I might be biased, but lot of times romantic subplots take away from a story's pacing and the characters' individual development. That's not the case with Zack and Aerith because their romance was beneficial for their growth. IMO in Sephiroth's case, a romance would've taken so much away from his story; the internal conflict as he works for Shinra, his desire for connection and to know his parents, and the horrible reality he faced that inevitably lead to his descent into madness. I'm glad they gave him relationships with Zack, Team Glenn, and Angeal and Genesis, because it humanized him without the need for romance and showed that he did care about other people and vice-versa.

I read before that Aerith was originally meant to have a connection with Sephiroth. They were first meant to be ex-lovers, then siblings until the idea was scratched completely and they created Zack last minute (which I am glad about because I personally cannot picture Aeriseph either way). Idk how you see it but does this not prove further that Cloud was never meant to be Aerith's love interest and vice versa? Since they even specifically created Zack so THEY could have that connection?

Okay, so this is a bit complicated to explain since it involves very early production concepts and we don't have the full picture since the devs have admitted they can't remember everything exactly.

Originally the role of Cetra and love interest was Tifa's. She was the only heroine and her design was as you can see in the chart.

Sephiroth originally looked like Vincent, and he and Tifa were brother and sister which is why they both still look alike now. Sephiroth was Cloud's BFF, so the roles of Aerith and Tifa were combined, and so was Zack and Sephiroth.

Production moved along a little and the devs decided to kill off a character. They only had Barret, Cloud and by this time Tifa had been swapped for Aerith, and while we don't know when or why for sure the devs did that, the moment Aerith was chosen to die, Nomura reintroduced Tifa as the heroine who stays by Cloud's side. They split the roles to give Aerith the Cetra who dies for the planet one, and Tifa got the love interest who saves the hero.

With the changes to Tifa, the devs also changed Sephiroth, changing him from Vincent's appearance to what we know now. They also brought in the concept that Sephiroth was Aerith's first love. He was still also Cloud's BFF at this point.

Production moved along some more and Nojima reached the point in the story that Zack's reveal as the core of Cloud's identity crisis meant some editing to the rest of the story already written. Sephiroth was removed as Cloud's BFF, and Zack was created as the BFF, ideal hero and Aerith's first love who she tried to recreate in Cloud, which furthered the identity crisis arc and pushed the concept of illusion vs reality.

Aerith absolutely was never created as Cloud's love interest at any stage. She was swapped for Tifa, who was then brought back in as the love interest. She was specifically reintroduced as Cloud's love interest and given all the romantic storyline to do so.
