Xithrel, Immortal Aetherborn

It’s birthday season for our Dungeons & Dragons campaign set in the Magic the Gathering universe. This year I’m doing planeswalker cards again!

A new version of Xithrel! They’re officially immortal now that they can create etherium themselves, though Tezzeret’s hold on them and the party at large stays strong as ever. Couple of interesting things with this one: their arm is a recently created etherium prosthesis (it’s basically a Blood Fury Tattoo they had to lose an arm for), and their Pact Weapon is now a strange sword the Saiba Futurists created with the Phyrexian remains the Futurists found in the aftermath of Jin-Gitaxias’s initial incursion of Kamigawa (which Xithrel then stole). The monster on their shoulder is the Accursed Construct, a reflavored Accursed Specter.

As usual, a lot of mechanical callbacks to Tezzeret planeswalkers. The second +1 discarding a card is a nod to Xithrel’s use of mind magic like Synaptic Static and Mental Prison.

HEY

I WANNA INFODUMP MY DND CHARACTER FOR NO REASON

HIS NAME IS CEDRIC

(this goes on for a while)

He's an Aetherborn Fighter! His backstory was that he was a pirate captain because of the fact that since he's an Aetherborn, he'll die in four years unless he finds an artefact that could potentially extend his life expectancy. But he started treating his crew badly so they revolted and threw him off his ship, where he then swam to shore and just kinda sat there for a day. He eventually decided to try to become a better person, then picked up a sword and started hitting his problems away. Being not an idiot good doesn't come naturally to him.

At least, that WAS his backstory, but then my dm started doing some WILD shit-

APPARENTLY. Cedric was a pirate captain on Neptune?? Then he ran away from something (we still don't know), and he wound up on some other planets where he lived several lives of crime; so far, we know that he was in a mafia on Mars and a dragon riding thief on Earth. Man's fucken wild

Oh yeah, and the lore of Aetherborns dying when they turn four? Nah, fuck that shit- instead, Cedric loses all his memories every four years! That's a problem because we are rapidly approaching that time.

But ANYWAY

Right now, he has actually managed to acquire something to extend his lifespan- a magic crystal called The Heart! It gave him a ton of buffs too, Cedric is ripped now-

A lot of crazy things have happened in the campaign so far, and I actually illustrated a lot of them, so I'll share the funnier ones now :)

-Featuring other player characters and npc's, such as: Badger! Big Man! Tir-pik! And Fos in the shape of a deer because of an inside joke where Big Man was traumatised by a demonic deer!-

Oh yeah and in our most recent session, Cedric just turned into a giant fleshy eldritch abomination

things that happened in my last d&d session that will forever be stuck in my brain:

when we were holding my character's funeral and the tiefling barbarian started his speech by saying "now i know that this isn't ideal" and then went on to describe how, while he knew i wasn't going to hell, if i somehow did, he would personally make sure i would be having a good time.

the cleric in our group going literally insane due to a sanity mechanic we frequently use and during her mental breakdown exclaiming that her best friend (another pc) was never her friend and they should go away.

them then reconciling and during said interaction the other player character saying "you're everything, gwyn"

our entire group (consisting of a ghost, a druid wild shaped into a horse, the literal devil, a normal ass human, an aetherborn, and a hexblood) walking into a brothel and it immediately seemed like we wanted to do things with the horse.

us spending 20 minutes trying to convince the secretary that - no, we don't want to fuck the horse, we promise.

also the dm describing what our group looks like and it feeling like the start of a really bad joke. "a horse, a ghost, and the devil walk into a brothel)

our one month old aetherborn bard walking around said brothel and knocking on every single door until he found the npc that owned it.

one player going pee literally every 30 minutes during our 8 hour long session.

Plane Shift: Kaladesh

Aetherborn come into being spontaneously as part of the aether refinement process. Their bodies and minds are apparently formed out of some interaction between the volatile elements of aether that are removed during refinement and the psychic impressions created by the people involved in the process. But each aetherborn is a unique individual, not a mere copy of some other person’s mind and shape. This race is little understood, and few aetherborn are willing to waste any of their short lives allowing vedalken scholars to study their biological and psychological characteristics.

Aetherborn are a strange living by-product of the process of aether refinement, cast in humanoid form but lacking any of the biological qualities of other races. They don’t eat or sleep, and they don’t reproduce—nor do they have any physical sexual characteristics. Language that categorizes people into male or female categories thus breaks down when it comes to aetherborn. Most aetherborn prefer that others use the pronoun “they” to refer to them, since it doesn’t attribute a gender that they don’t possess. Only a relative few prefer “he” or “she,” having chosen to adopt a gender.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2, and two other ability scores of your choice increase by 1.

Age. Aetherborn come into being as adults and live no more than a few years.

Alignment. As a rule, aetherborn are driven by hedonism and self-interest, making them neutral at best and thoroughly evil at worst. Neutral aetherborn might devote much of their time (and wealth) to parties and social activity, while evil aetherborn are usually involved in the criminal underworld.

Size. Aetherborn are about the same size as humans, ranging from 5 to 6 feet tall. They are quite light—only about 100 pounds—and their weight diminishes as they age and more and more of their substance returns to the aethersphere. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision. Accustomed to the night, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Born of Aether. You have resistance to necrotic damage.

Menacing. You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and two other languages of your choice.

Esta vez se trata de un "Etéreo" que planeo usar como NPC en un futuro, normalmente tardo un par de días por dibujo, pero en esta ocasión me tomo solo un par de horas, si se le ve desprolijo es por ello. This time i made an "Aetherborn" that i plan to use as an NPC in a future, usual i take two or three days per draw, but in this case i take only a couple hours, if looks a bit dirty that's why.
