Thank you to the Singapore Book Council (@singaporebookcouncil ) and the Asian Festival of Children's Content (@afccsg ) for showcasing my illustration for Sing a Song of Hawker Food (published by @worldscientificedu ) in this year's edition of the Book Illustrator's Gallery. The AFCC runs from 26-29 May and includes lectures, workshops, book launches and forums featuring children book writers, illustrators and other professionals from the children's book publishing industry. Back from Singapore's AFCC event!

I haven't been to a convention/conference/book fair since the pandemic so this event has been an incredible experience being around fellow authors and artists! Especially since a majority of them were Southeast Asian!! I feel so re-energized and inspired!

After we sat in on a panel featuring Lee Uk-bae, Xiran Jay Zhao, and Hanna Alkalf, we had lunch with Hanna and Xiran nearby. We got to give them cards with their lil characters on them (read Zachary Ying and Weight of Our Sky, they're great).

Our local friend then took us and Xiran over to the SEA aquarium! LOTS OF SHARKS THERE but the manta rays were especially majestic. We went to a night safari later on too!

The next day we attended a Xiran exclusive talk where they talked in great detail about the historical context of both Iron Widow and Zachary Ying. Really informative and honestly funny! There's this running joke among our friends that the internet keeps mistaking Xiran for us (because of our low voices I guess?) so we wanted to squash the "Xiran and the twins are the same person" allegations only for us to unintentionally wear matching outfits for three days straight. We aren't beating the triplet allegations.

We then headed over to Kinokuniya Main Store (which I recommend over the Bugis location because this one is huge and has a massive section for all types of comics [superhero comics, manga, graphic novels, even some local comics!]) where Hanna and Low Ying Ping were doing a talk. I ended up buying a copy of Prophecy of the Underworld because the author's humor and energy was contagious lol. I'm still reading it now and it's so funny.

On the last day we attended one last Hanna talk and Difference Engine's book launch for two graphic novels! Love to see and support other Southeast Asian graphic novelists in the local sphere <3

We had a blast hanging out with both author and local friends!! Definitely want to head back someday :)

Украина с помощью самолётов F-16 сможет атаковать центральные города России

Министерство обороны Соединённых Штатов Америки официально подтвердило, что первые истребители F-16 из Дании будут переданы Украине летом 2024 года. «Руководящая группа коалиции по потенциалу ВВС (AFCC) встретилась, чтобы обсудить ход реализации украинской программы F-16, включая работу AFCC по обучению ВВС Украины эксплуатации, обслуживанию и техническому обслуживанию истребителей F-16. Члены AFCC координируют свои действия для выполнения требований, чтобы гарантировать, что Украина получит самолёты F-16, первоначально от Дании летом 2024 года и другие самолёты от союзников позднее в этом году. AFCC подтвердила свою непоколебимую поддержку Украине», — говорится на сайте военного ведомства США.

Ранее глава Минобороны Дании Троельс Лунд Поульсен также объявил, что первые истребители F-16 передадут Украине этим летом. В то же время датский министр обороны отказался назвать точный график передачи истребителей.

Генеральный секретарь НАТО Йенс Столтенберг, комментируя подготовку украинских летчиков, осваивающих F-16, заявил, что Украина, когда получит истребители от союзников, будет пользоваться правом на самооборону. Столтенберг назвал российские военные цели за пределами Украины «законными».

Вот уже несколько дней разведка НАТО с повышенной интенсивностью патрулирует границы РФ со стороны Черного моря. В том числе были замечены два самолета дальнего радиолокационного обнаружения воздушных сил Франции и Турции и американский стратегический разведывательный беспилотный летательный аппарат (БРЛА) RQ-4 Global Hawk. Авторы телеграм-канала «Рыбарь» считают их предвестниками возможных атак ВСУ «по южным территориям России». Такой вывод подтверждают сообщения в медиа о том, что в последние дни вблизи территории РФ совершали «холостые» полеты украинские бомбардировщики Су-24М с «пуском обманок и промежуточной посадкой на аэродромах в центральной части Украины». Кроме того, уже неделю в украинских портах отмечена повышенная активность грузовых судов и судовых кранов, которая может быть связана с разгрузкой различного вооружения, включая безэкипажные катера.

При этом российские войска этому пытаются противодействовать, нанося удары по украинской портовой инфраструктуре на Черном море и по военным аэродромам. 21 февраля вечером «в результате ударов БПЛА-камикадзе «Герань-2» по территории военного аэродрома Миргород в Полтавской области были уничтожены истребитель МиГ-29 и фронтовой бомбардировщик Су-24М ВСУ.

Североатлантический альянс продолжает создание полноценных военно-воздушных сил Украины. Это подтвердил генсек НАТО Йенс Столтенберг, заявив, что все союзники Киева хотят, чтобы истребители F-16 появились на Украине как можно раньше, но отметил, что эффект от них будет сильнее, если пилоты будут «хорошо обучены, а экипажи и другой обслуживающий персонал — хорошо подготовлены».
