Oh yes, speaking of access to healthcare: some good news on that front here, at least!
I finally did get a temporary number assigned through the nearest vårdcentral. (Primary care clinic, basically--the first port of call for pretty well anything short of a "fixing to die"-level emergency.) So, I am now in the system here, and should be able to start getting treatment.
There have been some delays with getting that set up, for a variety of reasons. (Including medical trauma, tbqh.) But, so glad to at least get to that point!
With the diabetes and all, they actually want me to bring in what documentation I have of the regular meds I've been on so they can make copies. Then they should apparently be getting a doctor to issue Swedish prescriptions to cover more immediate needs without an in-person appointment first? *fingers crossed* That was a surprise, but I'm not about to complain.
Thankfully, I do still have an insulin hoard in the fridge which should still be plenty for months, but I will be SO GLAD to hopefully finally get the nerve/phantom limb pain meds back! The office did seem to think that was kinda important too, so hopefully nobody will act like an obstructive jerk about it.
I mean, the chopped-off leg is kind of an obvious reason that yes, such treatment may really be necessary! But, experience. 😑
Mr. C is planning to take the NHS prescription printouts and a sack of physical med packages to the office tomorrow, so with any luck that won't take too long to get underway.
Things have honestly been pretty rough, and that's one reason it's been harder for me to deal with all this crap. Or to do much in general.
Also, like pretty much anywhere with any reasonable standard of care? Endocrinologists are who automatically handle T1 diabetes (and connected issues) here. So, they want me to try to get my existing UK doctor to send a referral to the local university endocrinology clinic. 😬
Even after the huge misdiagnosis clusterfuck, etc., I never saw an NHS endocrinologist. Or anyone else other than a nurse for diabetes management, in the hospital or at the last GP practice. So, I did go ahead and just put in an eConsult request for that referral at the GP's there. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mean, IME so far? Good luck getting any kind of referral within their own system--much less internationally. Though, maybe there could be less kneejerk refusal reaction when the NHS won't be paying for any of it? 🤔 Worst case, it looks possible to submit a self-referral there. Though I would have thought that the vårdcentral here could handle it.
We'll just have to see what happens. (Before even getting to any other ongoing issues waiting in line, such as gastroenterology and then further mobility device/prosthetics hoop jumping. 😵)
At any rate, glad to have some kind of path forward there! It's been depressing as hell, feeling so throughly stuck in medical limbo up to this point.
(Maybe especially when burnout through lack of any obvious way forward in the different system was basically what got me to that major crisis last year, yeah. Yay trauma. 🥴)
