No matter what side you're on in the debate of wanting dead characters to return or not, you have to admit it's a VERY real possibility. And quite frankly it would be more surprising if it didn't happen at this point.

- We have the Anahatium Shard that can just straight up revive the dead that is basically confirmed to be a returning factor in the series since both Rhys and Fiona are looking for it.

- We got confirmation that ghosts exist in the guns, love, and tentacles DLC, and there's a gun merged with Eridian technology that can let you see them.

- And finally in Nyriad's messages she mentions a vault called the vault of the Timekeeper. Given the name I think it's safe to assume that it, or its treasure, has the ability to mess with time itself.

So, regardless of what character it is, whether it's just one or two, or all of them coming back, it's pretty likely that we're going to be seeing some people returning at some point, probably in Borderlands 4.

At this point, Chekov's gun is off the wall, fully loaded, and pointed directly at the series. It's just a matter of time until it fires.

You first meet him and you get this outfit

Yknow with his ridiculous and baffling tie

But then, post Jack AI and fall of Helios and such, you get this fit

Definitely looks far better on him but for some fucking reason I didn't notice the fact that he's left far more of his neck exposed. Like, I noticed it, but the SIGNIFICANCE didn't register.

He can't handle his throat being constricted at all after dealing with Jack strangling him.

Hell, even in 3 and New Tales this is still present

The tie isn't done up all the way, and neither is his shirt. To avoid any pressure at all being put on his throat.

Jack attempting to kill him by strangling him with his own arm has left a fucking MARK on this man.

I just can't believe I never fucking noticed this until like....last night.

Late night Rhys thoughts but -

He never idolises Jack, at least not fully. He cared about the guy, was inspired, a fan, wanted to be him. But he called him out on being a maniac. He kept on calling out the man's behaviour. He could be scared of him, but at no point did he make him into what he wasn't. Only what he was made to believe.

Jack is great at crafting his image. Charismatic, probably unconsciously awkward, but he knows that brings him strength. After all, he needs to be in some way relatable. He can read a person so well, and if you follow him, its because he speaks to goals Rhys wants to go to. But he learns to respect the guy, to some extend at least. He knows the kid is smart, he knows he can give him snark remarks and get something he rarely got - just as snarky comeback.

They both see each other's flaws and try to use them. To different amount of success.

Huh late night thought I had last night that i just had to get out there: I had the realisation that 2 of my biggest OTP's are quite similar.

-One comes from a dirt poor background which led them to a life of stealing and conning to survive, whereas the other had come from wealth and privilege that had been lost due to having to flee to avoid getting murdered

-The rich one has a connection with gadgets and gizmos

-The girl in the relationship has a terrible father

-The rich one is haunted and controlled by some malicious entity that they have to confront in a deeply personal way.

-The rich one also has a guilty conscience about the bad stuff he helped put out into the world (involving weapons) and tries their best to do good into the world instead.

-The girl in the relationship has a very close and overprotective sibling, said over protective sibling is ether confirmed lgbtq+ or heavily headcanoned as such.

-The rich one has a best friend who is socialy awkward but very loyal and struggles to deal with the harshness of life untill they dig deep and become a well respected badass in their own right, said best friend also the leader of a civilization (at least for a while).

-There was at least one death (or almost death) and resurrection involved.

-The rich one is a total simp/whipped for the girl

So...Am I talking about Perc'ahlia or Rhysha. Trick question they are the same!

ok I finished New Tales in just over 24 hours and I LOVED IT SO MUCH 😭 I adored the characters, especially Anu and Octavio, I thought the humor MOSTLY (def not entirely lol) landed, which was more than I was expecting from initial trailers and stuff, and I loved getting to explore more lore about magical creatures besides just Vault monsters and sirens!

I managed to save every (heroic) character except one whom I don’t think can be saved (big sad about that 🥺 ) . I’m hearing there are endings where major characters are just stated to have died off-screen lmao and that’s wild

I gotta admit one thing midway through, tho… namely the random appearance of a certain old character in a certain role without a BIT of explanation lmao …COMPLETELY threw me off, and made it hard to focus on the rest of the scene bc it was so jarring. Who the fuck decided THAT was gonna be a thing??

Overall tho, I REALLY enjoyed this game. I’d almost say I enjoyed it more than the first one, because I resonated a lot more with these characters than the OG Tales ones. I WAS happy to see a certain someone crop up at the very end, though!

- Before the intro sequence, I thought Anu didn't know Octavio friends? I don't know the timeframe in all this so it does feel a tad bit weird though, in this run I had killed Juniper so...

- Dear God Octavio not noticing it's Fran's Frogurt is so stupid 😭😭 literally no words. Till this exact moment, I could excuse a lot of the writing... Please.... He's not this dumb, right,,,, ouu,,

A Spectacular, Spooky Spectacle!

I feel like I always preface these little game recommendations with, 'I'm not a gaming blog, but...', so I'll spare you this time.

Beacon Pines is a well-paced choose-your-own-adventure game with a compelling narrative that delivers at every turn. You step into the shoes of 12 year old Luka only a few months after his mother goes missing. Armed with nothing but the help of his good friend Rolo, the sly wit of his newest neighbor Beck, and the power of Charms, it's up to him to unearth the truth behind their quaint town... and save it from catastrophic ruin.

Without spoiling anything, Beacon Pines is gameplay light. Instead, it takes it's cues from the visual novel genre... with a twist. The story unfolds as a narrator guides you through the various chapters, and through your journey you'll encounter branches where one word makes all the difference. That's where you come in! Using the collection of terms you pick up by exploring the world, you can radically alter the course of fate. You'll rarely get everything right on your first try, but don't worry-- even failure is rewarded with new clues, new threads of the mystery, and new hooks that will draw you further into the story.

Sitting at a runtime of 5-7 hours, Beacon Pines is short but satisfying. The art is bright, fun, and well-rendered. The characters are all well written, and the music perfectly encapsulates whatever mood the story demands-- whether it's the comfort of a slow morning or a warning of danger in the dark.

However, the thing that really sets Beacon Pines apart from other visual novels is the writing! The mystery is a fun romp that keeps you guessing, the "multiple paths" mechanic is executed so well that you never really feel like you've made a bad choice, and best of all, the characters and their interactions feel sincere. I found myself smiling, laughing, sometimes stunned silent, sometimes teary-eyed... Though the game is short, the world is just deep enough for the story and it's characters to swim.

Beacon Pines is really just... sweet and genuine. I think that's the best way to describe it. If you need something to whittle away a few hours and get away from it all and like story-driven games, give Beacon Pines a go! It was recently on sale for $4.00, but it usually retails for $20.00.
