He could not recall what exactly they had been talking about prior to this moment, most likely just idle chatter about what had transpired earlier in the day, along with miscellaneous reports of the goings-on in the base. Shoichi could be oh-so-formal sometimes that it bored him to no end. However, now that all the other officers had been dismissed and it was just the two of them in the large conference room, it couldn’t hurt for pretences to drop, even if just for the moment.

“What brought this on, Sho-chan?”

He wonders if Shoichi ever misses it: the halcyon days from their college memories, the times they would simply… do nothing together.

Byakuran doesn’t. He let go of those sentimental connections a long time ago. But he wouldn’t be a good friend if he didn’t act like he cared at least a little.
