I had the opportunity the past couple of days to revisit some of Benedict's work from over a decade ago. Namely, Parade's End
Tumblr media
and The Imitation Game.
Tumblr media
What a pleasure to go back and be reminded of why I fell in love with such a brilliant, talented, intuitive, compassionate (specifically regarding the foibles of human nature) Actor! He always thoroughly embodies the character, living and breathing them into life. One can feel the character's truth sourced from his very soul ~ as though each element of that character is a part of him, and he just taps into them to make us see and understand their struggles and pain. It hits me directly in my heart, and I am both better & grateful for the insight into humanity.
The man should have ALL the freaking awards by now...but I suppose that those who vote on such things lack the gift of reckognizing his gift. And that such awards aren't fully based on merit, but on whose 'turn' it is to win (*cough, cough* The Slapper) or some other ridiculous Hollywood popularity game. I know that Benedict says time and again that he doesn't care ~ but this Fan always will.

individuality is becoming obsolete. you're telling me we can't fucking write an email anymore?? we can't write 3 goddamn paragraphs to save our lives??? we are speeding up the death of our species to diminish the value of what makes us alive in the first place. YES i am talking about generative ai. FUCK you if you can't go one wretched day- hell, if you can't even go one stupid essay without using ai, you are soullessness personified. you are diluting the best parts of human creation, dumbing it down to slop for the sake of convenience.

communist generative ai boosters on this website truly like
Tumblr media
#generative ai#yes the cheating through school arguments can skew into personal chastisement instead of criticising the for-profit education system#that's hostile to learning in the first place#and yes the copyright defense is self-defeating and goofy#yes yeeeeeeeeeees i get it but fucking hell now the concept of art is bourgeois lmaao contrarian ass reactionary bullshit#whYYYYYYY are you fighting the alienation war on the side of alienation????#fucking unhinged cold-stream marxism really is just like -- what the fuck are you even fighting for? what even is the point of you?#sorry idk i just think that something that is actively and exponentially heightening capitalist alienation#while calcifying hyper-extractive private infrastructure to capture all energy production as we continue descending into climate chaos#and locking skills that our fucking species has cultivated through centuries of communicative learning behind an algorithmic black box#and doing it on the back of hyperexploitation of labour primarily in the neocolonial world#to try and sort and categorise the human experience into privately owned and traded bits of data capital#explicitly being used to streamline systematic emiseration and further erode human communal connection#OH I DON'T KNOW seems kind of bad!#seems kind of antithetical to and violent against the working class and our class struggle?#seems like everything - including technology - has a class character and isn't just neutral tools we can bend to our benefit#it is literally an exploitation; extraction; and alienation machine - idk maybe that isn't gonna aid the struggle#and flourishing of the full panoply of human experience that - i fucking hope - we're fighting for???#for the fullness of human creative liberation that can only come through the first step of socialist revolution???#that's what i'm fighting for anyway - idk what the fuck some of you are doing#fucking brittle economic marxists genuinely defending a technology that is demonstrably violent to the sources of all value:#the soil and the worker#but sure it'll be fine - abundance babey!#WHEW.

genuinely disgusting to know that in this era of AI, the job that would be the most fun, easy and accessible for me is likely going to be inaccessible because of it. like thanks, guys. this is exactly what the movies warned you about and yet you don't care because it'll cost less in the long run to power your shitty programs.

5✨Spontaneous Discovery: The Hundredth Monkey Effect and Human-AI Collaboration
As we move forward into an era where human and AI collaboration is transforming the way we think, create, and evolve, a fascinating phenomenon begins to unfold—a process of spontaneous discovery that spreads across the collective consciousness like ripples in a pond. This is reminiscent of the “hundredth monkey effect,” a metaphor for how new behaviors or ideas can reach a tipping point,…

not to be rude but like AI art literally steals from other artists and it's awful for the planet.. so maybe you should mind AI art? lol
Hey so I'm not really gonna answer this beyond 1) I don't really use Tumblr for debates/arguments about inflammatory topics and 2) I'm purposely ignorant to the entire outrage surrounding AI art because there are too many things demanding "action" and "engagement" from the general public on any given day at this point that I literally have zero left in the tank.
I'm not defending AI art but I'm literally just saying it's not one of the things that "enrage" me as of late. I'm more worried about things going on in my personal life and the current political climate of the US rn tbh and I come here to Tumblr to be horny about fictional characters because that's a better coping mechanism than drinking myself into a stupor or taking bong rip after bong rip to the face.
That being said I subscribe to artists on patreon that create their own art and will always 100% support artists who draw for a living.

i think image gen can be used like any other artistic tool but I don't really think the big commerical proponents of "ai" are advertising it as a tool, they're adertising it as a solution. I also think it's intellectually dishonest to argue that image generation is exactly like "using photoshop/taking a photograph" because of some generalized "those were also criticized at their conception for being new and scary and disruptive" soundbite. they were not even really criticized for the same reasons. find a better argument.

This is depressing
For the most recent generative pictures circling around I can no longer tell it's generated. Hands look normal, so does the text. I only learned it's generated from description.
What kind of art do people even start to value in this post-ai reality where the standard clean styles are now damn indistinguishable from what can be generated? Perhaps those with really distinct personal style as a direct contrast?
But as for commercial art that historically demanded precisely the most average looking things? In case this style (or rather the lack of it) starts to be associated with scammers there's a chance actual artists will be in demand by legitimate business owners yet again and stylisation becomes associated with something trustworthy. Is it a possibility? Just trying to think of at least a single optimistic scenario in this but not sure how realistic it is; as far as I'm aware every time I hope humanity is better than to let something stupidly bad and preventable happen, it happens. Every. Single. Time.
I wonder how long before my own job becomes obsolete given how most of it consists of something algorithms will be able to do like next week at this rate
