Sorely missing Aikatsu lately, I decided to dig out my 3DS and copy of Aikatsu My No.1 Stage, one of the best idol arcade ports to have ever existed.
I was so happy when this game came out, especially with all the DLC released for it, because I could keep playing all of my favorite Aikatsu stages long after the arcade game ended.
Until...
I lost my 3DS, or it was stolen from me (I'll never know which). Meaning I lost all the DLC with no official way to re-download it.
So I stopped playing the game, mostly because it's depressing to see all these songs I would love to play only to click on them and get the message "SD card missing", knowing the SD card it's looking for is long, LONG lost to time...
Tumblr media
But this time I got to thinking, hey this game has been out for a long time. Surely there is a way to just... download the DLC and transfer it to an SD card? Maybe?? (Does anyone have this game with the DLC?? Could it be uploaded?)
Well I did find this.
But I would have to play it on emulator, or like... hack my 3DS and get flash carts and all that? Right? Uuuggh...
Another depressing thing I realized while revisiting this game is... the graphics are...
um
bad.
But they are the original arcade graphics. I just got so used to Stars/Friends/Parade that every time I revisit the original it's like......oh.......
The thing about this is, Takara Tomy was able to get away with porting PriPara Switch for Idol Land but... I don't think Bandai would be able to get away with porting My No. 1 Stage for an Aikatsu mobile game. It's a great game, and I would definitely play it as is. But for the general population, especially people who didn't play or don't clearly remember the original arcade game, like... the dated graphics just would not fly.

Will you make a sister blog called Aikatsu archives if you watched the anime and gameplay of its arcade games
unfortunately, i dont have the time or energy to archive aikatsu coords as well. trust me, if i did, i would... BUT!
@hothotmiso has an archive of most if not all aikatsu coords + some aikatsu friends coords & aikatsu on parade coords (im not sure if its all of them for the last two?)
and @aikatsuswings has a bunch of aikatsu planet coords! unfortunately the blog is semi-abandoned and i cant confirm its all of them
so i think if i did run a blog like that it would be mostly reblogs since other people have done a better job of it than i have

Oya!! @waitineedaname tagged me to “list five topics you can talk about for an hour without preparing any material” !! Thanks for taggin me Soool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3
Loona – More specifically I could really cover the Loonaverse lore, but I think I can do a pretty good job giving the basics about their pre-debut project and their weird trajectory until they...ended. Well (technically) not really, since they still around strong making comebacks and debuts as units/solo artists in different companies and stuff.
MP100 – My sweet child. I'm no longer peak brainrot with it but I think I still could easily talk about how neat it is, how much i love it, the nitpicks i have with it, etc etc.
Random brazilian trivia? – I don’t think I would be able to talk about interesting specific traditions or anything, but I for sure more than once jumped at my non-brazilian friends to talk about the FUCKING weather here. So I can talk about that, how we celebrate some holidays, some foods we have and stuff like that I guess.
PreCure – Literally not sure what path my life would have taken if I didn't knew Precure. And there's a lot to talk about, it is a twenty year franchise so... BUT IRONICALLY EARLIER I TECHNICALLY FUMBLED THE BAG TALKING ABOUT IT, DIDNT TALK EVEN 5 MINUTES BUT ITS CAUSE I WAS CALLED IRL AND GOT BUSY. still kinda funny it happened while I was putting it on the list lmao the timing...I swear I can do it lol
2010's animes made to promote rhythm and dress-up arcade games – aka Pretty Series and Aikatsu. Honestly I could have put it together with Precure since they're all simillar animes for the same target audience, but I think those two idol(ish) franchises have a lot to cover in their rebrandings and stuff while precure is a lot more...coherent?!
Tagging @gardeningfrogs @shimamitsu @stuck-in-jelly >:O

I'm so happy! I love pretty series and I'll definetely watch this one too!
But I have to say, it screams AIKATSU to me:
2 besties enrolling in a private academy together was done in Aikatsu (Ichigo & Aoi) AND Aikatsu Stars (Yume & Koharu)
Wanting to make 1000 friends was literally Aine's goal in Aikatsu Friends.
Design-wise, they look like Aikatsu girls with cyalume outfits to me.
I heard the arcade item will be cards, so that's another Aikatsu thing they are using.
I'm worried this series won't be much original. I hope I'm wrong and I can like it!

cheating a bit on my aikatsu rewatch but going through the first episode i was surprised that the cgi was not nearly as bad as i remembered it was
Tumblr media Tumblr media
like it's not great or groundbreaking but for 2012 this was not the worst thing in the world, so i went to grab screens from the end of the show (about 3.5 years later) to see how they were in comparison :
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it definitely feels like they've come a long way; shading is better, and it feels like the general art style has been refined a bit more; the dress designs also give them a little more body so the characters feel less spindly. additionally, while i can't capture it in screenshots (and don't have the patience to make gifs), the actual animation of it has changed drastically - by the end of the show the characters moved in a way that was smoother and way more human, whereas the animation from the start of the show felt like it was modeled off an approximation of how people moved gained by playing a lot of idolmaster
it really strikes me that when this show came out in 2012 i had two friends immediately tell me about it and it was seen as a testament to "bad cgi in anime," and while it wasn't that bad it wasn't that great; it felt like it was taken directly from the arcade machines that the show is based on. on the flip side, by the end of the show the CGI is one of its strengths: concerts consistently look dynamic and appealing, and become the highlight of each episode

Tbh it sucks because Friends is so special to me but it tanked, actually got canceled unlike the other gens, the arcade game and merch sales weren't doing it so they tried to rework the series for the next gen
Aikatsu on Parade and all it's merchandise was partly an attempt to scrape up more money for Planet's release but??? I don't think it worked??? the first couple episodes mention all these really cool ideas about their idol world and then nothing came of it, it was a cute concept but I really think they just fell reaaally under budget and tried to skate by hoping nobody noticed
ever since Stars things have just been kind of mismanaged 😭 like why is the majority of their merch acrylic character stands?? you are a trading card rhythm game for 8 year olds 😭
I LOVE how diverse the music is!!!!! all the "standard idol stuff" really stands out too imo. Signalize was one of my favorites from the start, it just hits so different, most idol anime start with that extra sparkly guitar happy type of song but the instrumental for signalize was so unique, I always thought it was a bold choice for a show like that their rock music is so good. like so so gooddddd
I swear out of the like 700 songs of this series there are maybe 6 I don't enjoy?? ALSO WOW THATS A LOT
Same about the animation, OG s2-onward & Friends was great!!! I also love in the movie when Ichigo performs Kagayaki no Etude, there's a slow spinning scene when she's talking on stage about what the song means to her and every couple seconds it switches from 2d to cg angles and it's so seamless, I love it 😭💗
I think Planet's cg was also beautiful, I don't have much of an attatchment to the season but the character designs look really nice, good fluffy hair physics, and they've TOTALLY perfected the in-the-dark glowy look by then!!
another thing most of the fandom agreed on, Stars feeling kind of uncanny.. and the auras kept covering idols art certain parts so that's why they changed all the arches early on, they ACTUALLY got written complaints from kids 😭😂
I always wanted to see an idol with no type or a couple!!! Before Kaguya was introduced there was a huge theory going around that she was actually a Sexy/Cool type and since pairs were the point of Friends, we thought we were finally getting double type girls
I also wished the concept of my coords was used in more than that one ichigo gen ep, where you mix up brandless pieces, one of my favorite things to do is mix and match outfits in the ds games so I was hoping to see like idk maybe soleil could split their PR coords together one time or something??? idk would have been cool though!!
Ugh I do agree with you on the merchandise. Like I can’t play any of the card-based games because America so the cards would basically be glorified trading cards. This might be my doll collector brain talking, but why didn’t they make fashion dolls? I know they did for Friends but they didn’t expand on the concept at all, they just made two dolls. I want to see the girls in their basic coords and then fashion packs for each brand, like a set of multiple Futuring Girl rares or just one PR. I would have gone absolutely apeshit for that. It would also allow for mixing and matching, so maybe it could have tied into the show a lot more like with the concept of PR mixing you brought up! I feel like most PRs in units work pretty well together so I’d like to see the mix ups.
Yeah, I really do not care for planet. I think it really didn’t work, and was an awful lot like PriPara when it didn’t need to be! While the cg is admittedly gorgeous, I also feel like it tried to be so ✨aesthetic✨ all of a sudden instead of being bright and colorful like it’s always been! But maybe I just hate change.
I’ve heard that a lot of people find Raki to be a Mary Sue and hate the way she copied the designs of others. I don’t know enough about her to form an opinion, really, but what do you think?
I love the fact that the kids complained during Stars. They may be kids, but they have standards!!
I think double type idols would be super cool and really flesh out the world. Tbh I think there could be a few idols that could be double typed with only a few minor tweaks (I always thought Mikuru was a pop/sexy idol tbh). One thing I think would be interesting is to see how brands would react to it. Brands appreciate dedication, so would dual type idols have a hard time getting PRs because the pure-type brands would worry about being thrown aside? Cool conflict imo.
Now I have to ask, are the ds games any good? Are they able to be played as someone who speaks absolutely no Japanese? I’ve never really thought about getting one of the games before because I have no clue how they work

10 Years of Aikatsu!
The first Aikatsu TV series aired on TV Tokyo on the 8th of October 2012. 2022 marks 10 years of the Aikatsu franchise and what a journey has been for the franchise. From Ichigo Hoshimiya's goal to become Starlight Academy's top idol to Hana's road to becoming Aikatsu Planet's top idol, five installments showcased the ups and downs of our favorite school idols.
Time to hop into the "lucky train", kids, because it's time for a quick history lesson on the Aikatsu franchise! Let's begin!
Tumblr media
Aikatsu! (2012) - The saga began on the 8th of October, 2012, when Bandai launched the Aikatsu! franchise. which are made to appeal the little girls in the form of the TV series aired on TV Tokyo and the DATA CARDDASS arcade game where players can play as their favorite characters from the series or create their own character and take on a series of challenges to win Aikatsu cards to personalize their idols. The TV series centers on the life and times of Ichigo Hoshimiya, a middle-school student who wants to become an idol, just like the renowned Mizuki Kanzaki. That's why she, and Aoi Kiriya, are enrolling at the prestigious Starlight Academy to begin their journey.
Throughout the series, they've met various characters in the academy such as Ran Shibuki, Otome Arisugawa, Yurika Todo, Sakura Kitaoji, Kaede Ichinose, and others, all have in common in the academy; to become the best idols in the class.
What's unique about the Aikatsu franchise is that the singing voices of the characters are different from the seiyuus who did the dialogue for them. As a matter of fact, STAR☆ANIS, the singing group was responsible for the songs from the show. They even held concerts where they performed most of the songs from the TV show as well.
In the second season, the girls from Starlight Academy are facing the students from the rival idol school known as Dream Academy. Seira Otoshiro, Sora Kazesawa, Kii Saegusa, and Maria Himesato came from Dream Academy for some matters with the Starlight girls. Later on, with differences settled, Ichigo and Seira teamed up to form 2wings to take on WM, which comprises the school alum Mizuki and rising star Mikuru Natsuki. Apart from them, this season introduces the young Akari Ozora, who idolizes Ichigo and became the girl we know in the third season.
The third and final season of Aikatsu, labeled the Akari Generation arc of the series, centers on Akari Ozora as the main character of the series, and with Akari replacing Ichigo as the main character of the final season, Akari's accompanied by her new friends Sumire Hikami and Hinaki Shinjo on their journey to become the academy's top idols, no matter what lays ahead of them. She's a changed girl since we first met her in an earlier season.
The final season introduces us to another Aikatsu-related singing group named AIKATSU☆STARS, which, like STAR☆ANIS, is responsible for the songs from the final series.
Throughout the tenure of the original Aikatsu series, they have spawned two films such as Aikatsu the Movie and Aikatsu Music Awards, featuring storylines never seen in the TV series, giving fans a more enjoyable experience in the franchise.
Aikatsu Stars! (2016) - As the original Aikatsu series ended in the end of March 2016, its successor story, Aikatsu Stars!, was launched. , Aikatsu Stars centers on a brand new story of friends Yume Nijino and Rola Sakuraba as they are going to fulfill their quest to become the school's finest idols in the same way the four elite students, called the S4, did with their pride and prestige. Using their Aikatsu Cards, the stage is theirs to amaze the spectators.
The second season sees Yume Nijino's role as one of the members of S4 has been tested when the Venus Ark pays a visit, giving her a brand new challenge to take on. Traveling around the world on the Venus Ark, they've collected the best and brightest students from across the globe to nurture them into elite students unleashing the full capabilities of their talents. For Yume and the others, this is a challenge because they've been to the belly of the beast during the long summer months while reuniting with Koharu. This season introduces the Star Premium Rare dress, a powerful kind of dress representing the planets of the solar system and once all nine SPRs have been unleashed, the legendary Sun dress will be unleashed, and whoever possesses it promises the ultimate power.
It was first aired on TV Tokyo in the spring of 2016 to 2018 for 100 episodes and aside from the TV series, there was a movie version of Aikatsu Stars shown in the summer of 2016. The similarly named AIKATSU☆STARS from the final Aikatsu season has returned to perform songs from this series as well.
Aikatsu Friends! (2018) - After Aikatsu Stars ended in the spring of 2018, its successor, Aikatsu Friends!, took over and the third installment breaks away from the tradition because, for the first time, the seiyuu behind the characters are responsible for the songs on the series. Anyway, this series highlights the life and times of Aine Yuki and Mio Minato, two friends who are destined to be the best friends among the rest. This is about the rise and fall and reborn of the duo they formed as Pure Palette and how their road to the Diamond Friends Cup was tested by numerous rivals among the way.
The second season of Aikatsu Friends!, titled Aikatsu Friends! Kagayaki no Jewel, introduces fans to the brand new Jeweling Dress feature where the chosen ones will unleash their brilliance onstage. At the beginning of the second season, the Pure Palette girls accepted Hibiki Tensho’s mission to reunite with her old friend Alicia Charlotte, the crown princess of the Principality of Solvette. The second season features the new Jeweling Dress system and these new Premium Rare dresses add power to their live performances.
The show lasted for about 76 episodes.
Aikatsu On Parade! (2019) - Aikatsu on Parade! is the most ambitious crossover of the Aikatsu franchise, highlighting seven years of Bandai's hit children's franchise that wooed kidults all over Japan. The biggest Aikatsu crossover stars Raki Kiseki and the Pure Palette in their cross-dimensional adventure across the entire franchise, meeting iconic characters, performing iconic songs, and in due course, finding out what's going on with the cross-dimensional crisis that saw every single Aikatsu character popping up to a different world without reason. The show lasted for 26 episodes on TV, followed by a web anime highlighting Noeru Otoshiro, the sister of Seira, as she's representing Dream Academy in the ultimate battle of the schools.
Aikatsu Planet! (2021) - Aired on TV Tokyo from January to June 2021, Aikatsu Planet is the fourth installment of Bandai Namco's Aikatsu franchise that breaks apart from the franchise traditions. The newest installment is a mix of live-action J-drama (tokusatsu, if you like to refer) and anime sequences and instead of cards, Aikatsu Planet uses the swing system where avatars use swings to tame mysterious creatures known as Dressias, possessing wonderful outfits to use on stage battles. This series is about Mao Otoha, also known as Hana in Aikatsu Planet, and her goal is to become Aikatsu Planet's top idol. A year after the series finale, the movie version of the Aikatsu Planet arrived on July 15, 2022, picking up moments after the series finale.
And there you have it. 10 years of the Aikatsu franchise from the original to Aikatsu Planet, from Ichigo Hoshimiya to Hana. What a wonderful journey this series has been but now that we no longer see them on television and the Aikatsu Planet arcade game ending its service very soon, we don't really know what's next for the Aikatsu franchise.
Anyway, happy 10th anniversary to the Aikatsu franchise!

from a business point of view, there's no way the pretty series is ending when it's still successful. with aikatsu, akari gen, stars, and friends all got cut short due to poor sales, parade was last minute and planet was meant to be short in the first place. while with the pretty series, pripara is still popular enough to justify a new game and a web series, and primagi sold WAY better than prichan. they still have juice to run on, unlike aikatsu, which has been fading out of the scene since 2015. i highly doubt theyll make a second season for primagi when they come back tho
they have a new web series... that also seems to be on indefinite hiatus...
i don't know, i do kind of think they'll make a primagi s2. since they ended support for the prichan arcade games and switched over to primagi. that was a huge investment and I assume they'll want to keep the primagi brand going to get their mileage out of those
sam was saying it makes more sense for them to do something like dear my future or idol time where they keep the universe of the previous show but introduce a new set of leads so that's kind of what I'm expecting

every countdown idol so far ♪ tomorrow’s hint is that it’s the 16th as in 6 as in roku as in rock, so maybe Seira or Rola? (or if it’s Yurika, then all my favs are there.)
anyway, the DCD twitter just tweeted the following:
Tumblr media
(...) On 8/17 starting at 8:30, the DCD game also has an important announcement 🌈✨ Everyone, be sure to check it out on AiTube 💖
...so there’s the facts! a game/anime renewal is looking even more likely. although now it’s confirmed that the announcement is about both the game and anime, it’s pretty much either that or a movie + game collab.

~ ✨ Not to be that prick but,  Remember how the brands in Aikatsu! Friends use makeup? Wow really wished that they implemented that better with the anime but oh boy did they forget about it halfway through season 1. ✨ ~

Just watched the new Pretty Series livestream. I read no one else's comments, I just woke up, watched the stream, and am posting now.
First impressions.
WOW. WOOOOW. Aikatsu is really deader than a doornail if they are allowed to do this...... (Aikatsu Friends Planet the Pretty Series anime). That's kinda sad.
Uhhhh first series with two protags? Did they really say that? EXCUSE ME!?!? L-I-E-S! Do they really expect us to forget that's exactly how they promoted Idol Time when it came out because they were afraid to just say Yui is the new protag?
The new arcade cabinet looks kinda familiar. Are they... Are they reusing a card fighting game cabinet for a rhythm game!? I don't really like that.... you're going to damage your cards.....
THE MACHINE JAMMED. ON THE LIVESTREAM. This is the most Pretty Series thing that has ever happened and I'm glad some things will never change.
Okay, it's not a rhythm game, really. It's like a draw a shape while a song plays game. I like the whole judging concept but otherwise not feeling too depressed I can't play this game. It doesn't even have coord change?
OOOOKAY here it is. AiPri Verse is the one I am depressed I can't play. But like. Aikatsu is gone, they have no one to compete with, so they're making two arcade games to compete with themselves!!?
(Ohhh you can use the same character on both so yes but no.)
Honestly though, PriMagi still looks like more fun. I really hope this means they'll just leave the PriMagi machines where they are until the upgrade!? Please please!!
(But, this also probably means Prism Stone will just upgrade their PriMagi machines when it starts, leaving none behind...)
(Uh ohhh........ she didn't read any comments. Haha I wonder if everyone else feels the same.)
In the anime trailer, Himari debuts but needs to keep it a secret from her longtime friend Mitsuki. But, clearly Mitsuki will do or already does AiPri too. I wonder if she's like already a big AiPri star and has been hiding it from Himari the whole time? Will the big reveal come in the beginning, middle, or end of the series... could be frustrating or fun!
So yeah. The whole "secret" concept is interesting. Teaching kids they need to keep their AiPri debut a secret from their friends may not be the best marketing? But for an adult who plays kids games, I love it hahah...
What I am not sure if I like, is that the Pri in AiPri is for Princess? Idol Princess?
Aikatsu meets Go Princess Precure the Pretty Series anime.

sometimes i wonder what it must be like to work at data carddass aikatsu.
like. baby pirates. what was the thought process behind making three whole brands with prs and everything and getting voice actresses, only to make brief cameos in the anime, to not really have any impact on the arcade game besides being there.
what are they here for? were they supposed to actually be in the anime and actually matter but aikatsu friends got fucking dropped like a hot iron for aikatsu on parade WHICH DIDNT EVEN NEED TO HAPPEN, WHAT DID YOU THINK.
like the only reason i think they did aipare when they did was because they thought some huge pretty all friends thing was coming. we must set the benchmark!! we must blow them out of the water!! but like, that’s not what pretty all friends is.
there are so many other things over aikatsu’s life that make me go ‘who made this decision and what were they smoking and can i have some’ but baby pirates is just. the ur example. the absolute nadir of confusing choices.

Idol x Warrior Miracle Tunes(2017)
Tumblr media
Magic x Heroines Magimajou Pures(2018)
Tumblr media
Bittomo x Heroines Kirameki Powers (2021)
Tumblr media
