Just wanted to let u guys know that I had the most intense heartburn of my life last Thursday, my jaw was hurting, my neck, ears, throat even my BACK and of course my heart and ribs I thought I was dying of a heart attack. My mother and father in law are doctors so I’m glad I didn’t have to spend the night at the ER. I got prescribed with a PPI for now.
The worst part was that I couldn’t lay down cause the acid from my stomach would travel to my throat. I did not sleep for several days. Eating and drinking felt like a knife to my ribs.
Anyways the crazy thing about this is that I started having heart burn this year but what I’ve learned is that heartburn is only one symptom of acid reflux and that I’ve been a “silent” refluxer for years.
Sore throat, hoarseness, runny nose and so much more, all of these things which I didn’t understand why was because of acid reflux.
So I read the book Dropping Acid and realized that so much of the food I was eating was so acidic that it caused my acid reflux. I’m currently on an 2 week alkaline diet which sucks cause I love high fat and acidic foods such as butter, spicy foods, chocolate and etc and alkaline is basically the opposite of my taste bud. I also prefer to eat 1-2 times a day instead of 5-6 times a day but the diet is only for 2 weeks. The only good thing is that the acid in my stomach leaves me unable to feel any hunger or thirst so eating so little is alright,…for now.
So my alkaline diet is going to consist of foods that have a ph level of 5 and above just cause my symptoms were so severe so I plan to eat oven cooked sweet potatoes and chicken, oatmeal with honey, saltine crackers and for fruits I’m only eating melons and maybe apple. I know it’s super depressing but I didn’t eat anything for 2 days so eating unseasoned chicken and potatoes feels like a luxury.
I do plan on eating butter and chocolate once I’ve healed my gut but I’ve decided that I’m actually quitting all soda, energy drinks, coffee and protein shakes once I’m healed cause I know that those were my biggest triggers. I know the protein shake part is hard but I just have to spend more time meal prepping and cooking actual meat instead of eating those toxic protein bars.
