I was gonna draw the fairy boys for their belated birthday but I never got around to it, so instead I give you my happy belated birthday!! 🎉 (it’s half-assed, sorry-)

there is a thing in how Steven Knight wrote the format for 'Who Wants to Be A Millionaire' and also this upwardly-rising social mobility thing with Tommy; yet inherent in both is an utter humiliation and mortification of the one who wants to be that millionaire (because of their fundamental IGNORANCE which will be found out at some point)

your aspirations become the visual and mental fodder of those who know their place (that place of the voyeur as above or below is irrelevant, but woe to the one who attempts to rise out of their place)

Someone has to have written meta about how important the 1st incense burner chapter was for wangxian and how ir gave Lan wangji the catharsis he needed to stop being ashamed of his sexual desires after spending years punishing himself convinced his feelings were wrong and shameful because wy could never feel the same way about him. That the ugly feelings he had were his fault and how that made his guilt about his parents even worse

And then having Wei Ying the man he loves see them in all their raw and shameful glory, but instead of recoiling away in disgust wwx accepts them and lwj, showing him how lwj and his desires are not shameful, that wwx gets it he understands and he's into it too...and then the dream changes and becomes one of empowering lwj and giving him a chance to reclaim those teenage desires in a way that makes he feel good for once

how powerful that moment was for lwj who must have had a part of him that even in adulthood told him his teenage feelings were wrong, to finally come to the realization that he was just a kid and it's okay because those intrusive thoughts didn't make him a bad person. That even now they don't make him a bad person. That he can want and desire and be safe to explore those feelings and they aren't ugly or shameful they just exist as they are, that he can take them ans make them into something beautiful

Please tell me someone has written a better more cohesive version of this because my irl bff just finished the novel and hates lwj and I cannot handle that pleaseeeee

The musical is definitely more coherent. But I like the book because it feels like a real person's life story, just set in a fantasy universe. But yeah the ending of the book where Elphaba is isolated in a tower, surrounded by encroaching enemy forces she doesn't have the strength anymore to fight off, haunted by ghosts and half-mad with grief? The ending I had in mind for "Slippin Kimmy" wasn't quite as brutal, but it was in the ballpark.

Still, a pyric victory where fighting the good fight takes everything from you, leaves you traumatized, and history books probably won't even ever thank you for it. That seems fitting.

So I've been working on my Valentine's Day challenge but as evidenced by the fact I have posted nothing, I have barely had a moment to work on it and February is already passing me by 😱. I may give up posting it for this specific challenge but will continue working on it regardless because the thoughts are all there.

So the story is straight (ha!) Blaine runs into his ex and in a foolish effort to be "winning" the break up, claims to be dating Kurt.

Here's a little taster from the first chapter:

Blaine can feel the exact moment his soul leaves his body. He would have been quite happy never setting eyes on his ex again, but especially not under these specific circumstances. Not when his hair is a mess and there's a child's blood on his sweater.

"Blaine?" Holly says again. Like it's somehow possible Blaine hasn't seen her. Like he can't feel his heart trying to throw itself out of his chest at her mere presence. It's much the same as when they were dating, except this is not the positive kind of heart leaping. This is the prelude to a panic attack. He takes a shaky breath.

"Is that Holly?" Kurt asks, eyes narrowing. Blaine had forgotten he was there for a second and is suddenly infinitely grateful that he doesn't have to go this alone. Except now he has another problem. Because Kurt looks about ready to maul a defenceless woman in broad daylight. All on Blaine's behalf. This day is so cursed.
