You groaned as you read the message from Jim, already trying to find a way out of it.
All commanding officers were to go to a Gala on the metropolitan planet of TIbbea. Meaning, you’d have to dress up and attempt to kiss ass to uphold the reputation of Star Fleet.
Fantastic.
XXXXXX
You sat next to Leonard as you sipped the brandy he’d pulled out from his cabinet, some oldies playing in the background. You and Leonard had grown close, surprising everyone by becoming good friends despite the rocky beginnings. Bickering had given way to teasing, but that wasn’t to say that the bickering ended.
“So I take it you’re not looking forward to tomorrow?” He asked and you snorted.
“Absolutely not. They also still haven’t given me a new dress uniform so I’ve got to wear the most uncomfortable thing on the planet. Thankfully, it’s just black but I prefer slacks over that thing any day.”
“Hey, I hate that monkey suit. I think I’d rather wear a dress.” You laughed and rested your head on his shoulder.
“We can always switch.”
“Nah, I don’t think I could pull it off.” He replied and you two simply listened to the music. While ancient country wasn’t your taste, you had made Leonard watch enough of your movies that you owed him some of your time. “At least you can dance, right?”
“Can you?” He made a more or less sign. “I don’t really like to. I’ll stay near the bar and appetizers. Maybe you’ll meet some nice Orion girl to dance with.”
“I’ll just stay at the bar with you, darlin;. Maybe a Ferengi will woo you off your feet.” You snickered into your drink.
“If they buy me a drink, sure.” There was a comfortable silence between the two of you, but you didn’t notice Leonard’s heart nearly beating out of his chest. You only noticed something was off when he dragged his hand over his face. “You alright?”
“Uh, yeah. I was actually wondering if any of the other officers asked you to be their...accompany them to the gala?”
“No, why?”
“How about you go with me? Seems like we both want the same thing of staying out of the way and drinking them out of the house.” He joked. You hoped he didn’t notice your cheeks heating up as you looked back down into your glass.
“Sounds great, Len.”
Stars, he loved it when he called you that.
XXXXXX
The hall was ornately decorated with white walls and gold accents, a grand staircase, and breathtaking portraits of previous rulers of the planet. It seemed like it was something out of a fairy tale or a palace from Europe. Star Fleet took you to so many places but you never thought you would be in as nice a place as this.
You squirmed a little outside of the grand hall, the straps of your heels digging into your ankles, the garter belt that held your phaser chafing against your other thigh. Nyota and Janice had a lot of fun helping you get ready, an unspoken giddiness between the two. When you probed them as to why they were so adamant about getting you ready, they simply smiled and said “no reason”. Luckily for them, Spock had chosen to take Nyota as his date and Hikaru had kindly asked Janice to be his.
You had to admit they had done a great job but you weren’t surprised. Their makeup and hair were always impeccable.
You didn’t notice Leonard standing behind you and staring at you. He was in awe of how you looked. He always thought you looked beautiful but seeing you in your onyx gown was something else. It hugged you in the right places, showed off your shoulders with the loose sleeves, and the slit up your leg made you look like a goddess.
Dear God you were going to be the death of him.
You fixed your hair a little before you felt a tap on your shoulder. You spun to see Leonard in his dress uniform. While you knew he hated the monkey suit, he looked so handsome. His eyes were even brighter than usual and he had run just a little bit more gel through his hair.
“Hello there.” You greeted. He looked you up and down and you ran your hands over the silky material of the skirt. “Told you it was awful.”
“What’re you talking about? You look...you look gorgeous, darlin’.” Your eyes widened and you knew he saw the blush on your chest and cheeks.
“You don’t look too bad yourself.” He offered you his arm and you took it, walking into the grand hall and looking out for your crewmates. You took note of the many different races that were there and the line to great the king and queen.
“Jim needs a chair like that.” You commented, looking at the throne that was decorated with the overarching symbol of the national Tibbean religion. It was imposing to say the least and you wondered if it would even fit in the transporter room.
“What? So his ego can get bigger?” You both chuckled and made your way down the stairs and towards the bar.
“I see we’re sticking to the plan?” You asked.
“Wouldn’t have it any other way. Old fashioned, right?” You smiled, loving how he remembered your favorite cocktail.
“Yes please.” He ordered that for you and boulevardier for him. One of the bartenders quickly made them and slid them over to the two of you, the glasses heavy and almost a little gaudy.
“To drinking them out of the house!” He toasted and you chuckled.
“To drinking them out of their palace.” You corrected. You sipped your cocktail and, though you had many before, it was the best old fashioned you’d ever had. “Damn that’s good. I gotta figure out what bourbon they used.”
“I doubt you’d be able to afford it, darlin’.”
“Hey, if I take more credits from Scotty in poker I just might.” He scooted closer to you so you were practically resting against him.
“You gotta teach me your tricks.” “What? And let you take away my credits? I don’t think so.” You responded cheekily. You watched as Jim approached the king and queen, supposedly thanking them for their invite and talking up Star Fleet.
“It isn’t even a game for you anymore! You win every time.” He complained and you laughed.
“Doctor McCoy, I don’t play games. Poker is just a means to an end to be able to get everyone’s credits.”
“Never took you for a scrooge. You can tell me something”
“I never realized you were so whiny.” You replied and his jaw dropped in feigned shock. “Oh shut it, you know it’s true. ‘Jim, I’m a doctor not a brick layer. Spock you realize this is impossible. (Y/N) you need to be more careful’. Dammit Jim can’t you-” He elbowed you a little and you laughed, his arm going around your shoulders.
“You two certainly look like you’re having fun.” Jim said as he approached with the other members of the crew that had beamed down. You both sipped on your drinks as the others talked about how beautiful the planet was. Scotty was impressed with their liquor selection just like you were, Janice couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the paintings, Nyota was in awe of the poetic music that played, and Hikaru was obsessed with the native plants that nearly glowed with color.
“Please Spock, dance with me.” Nyota begged, already a little tipsy. She was always a lightweight, ever since meeting her your first day on the Enterprise.
“Of course, ashayam.” He replied and held out his arm for her to take and lead her to the floor. You and Leonard looked at each other, hardly believing the Vulcan could be so smooth.
“Miss Rand, if I may.” Sulu offered his hand, Janice laughing as she took it. Scotty lead Lieutenant Mira, Jim grabbed Carol, which eaft you and Leonard against the bar still. You were feeling the effects of your second old fashioned and decided “to hell with it”.
“Len, come dance with me.” He sputtered into his drink and quickly wiped his chin.
“Uh, I thought you didn’t dance.”
“I never said that, I just never answered your question. So will you dance with me?” You replied, placing your glass down and reaching to grab his hands.  “Well...Look darlin’-”
“I’ll dance with you.” A deep voice called. You turned to see a  Daliwakan leaning against the bar near you. “I’m Ivvoid, junior ambassador to the Daliwakans.”
“It’s very nice to meet you.” You introduced yourself and your rank aboard the Enterprise.
“Dr. McCoy, CMO of the Enterprise.” He introduced and you didn’t fail to miss how his chest seemed to literally puff up.
“Come, Commander. Indulge in me a little and dance.” Before you could object, he grabbed your elbow and led you to the floor. His other hand quickly went to your waist as you stepped in time to the music.
“You have to forgive me, I’m not a talented dancer.” You told him sheepishly, keeping in mind you had to keep up a diplomatic presence. You wished Leonard was with you instead.
“To be honest, neither am I. But who ever heard of an ambassador who couldn’t dance?” You laughed softly at him as he lead the little waltz you were having. You could practically feel Leonard’s eyes on you. “Who is the CMO to you?”
“What?”
“Who is he to you? Just a crewmate?” He replied and you furrowed your brows at him.
“Why do you ask?”
“Well, if I wish to get to know you better I would want to know whether you are spoken for or not.” He replied bluntly. You were a little stunned, something unusual for you. You didn’t realize that was a trait amongst the Daliwakans.
“Well, he is my date for the night.” You explained and you saw the ridges on his forehead raise.
“Just for the night then? You two aren’t together?”
“Well no, I don’t suppose we are.” You replied honestly.
“Fantastic! You know, back on my planet women-”
XXXXXX
Nyota looked over at Spock’s shoulder to see Leonard still leaning against the bar while you danced with someone else. She knew that there was something going on between the two of you, but you were both too stubborn and blind to do anything. If he wasn’t going to do anything, she would just have to push him.
“Spock, let’s move near Doctor McCoy.”
“Are you planning something?” Nyota smiled up at him and he did as she asked. “Doctor.”
“Spock, Uhura.” Leonard replied as he sipped on his third drink of the night. He saw how flustered you were getting and couldn’t help the pang of jealousy in his chest.
“Leonard, why don’t you go over there? She obviously doesn’t want to be there.”
“What’re you talking about? She’s laughing at everything he says and hasn’t stopped dancing with him.” He grumbled.
“Perhaps she is merely trying to be diplomatic. It’s hard to reject an offer from an ambassador.” Spock replied and Nyota grabbed his hand in a Vulcan kiss, showing that he had done a good job.
“Nah, she likes him.” She looked over again and saw how stiff you were. Sometimes she really wanted to slap Leonard for not catching on to the obvious things.
“Really? You think so? Maybe she just needs someone else to go save her, be assertive! Go over there!” Leonard polished off his glass and moved away from the bar.
“Nah, leave her be.” She looked up at Spock and he led her back to the dance floor, hoping to lift her spirits again. Nyota looked across to Janice who sported a disappointed look on her face.  XXXXXX
You looked away from the ambassador to see Leonard going back up the stairs of the grand hall. Your eyes widened and you mouth went slightly agape. You let go of the ambassador’s hand and, against his protests, quickly made your way through the crowd.
“Wait, Commander!”
“I’m sorry, I have to go!” You caught Leonard going around a corner and followed him, wondering where he could possibly be going. He went up another set of stairs and you followed, but he had gone into one of the many rooms before you could see which one. You opened each one, looking around, before you found a study. You saw his back turned towards you as he leaned with his palms against a desk. The window in front of him showing the dark purple sky with triple moons illuminating his figure.
“Dammit.” He sighed to himself and you quietly closed the door behind you.
“Hey, I thought we were going to drink the entire bar?” You joked but he didn’t laugh. You approached him and rubbed his shoulder. “What’s wrong? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” He bit back. You stepped back a little but your hands didn’t leave him. “I’m sorry. Go back downstairs, have fun.”
“I was having fun with you.”
“You were having fun with the ambassador.” He replied and you rolled your eyes.
“He was cocky and dull.”
“You laughed an awful lot.” He scoffed. You pulled away from him and crossed your arms across your chest.
“Doctor McCoy, are you jealous?” You teased, but your teasing nature went away when he didn’t say anything. “Len-”
“Darlin’, I’m fine. I just need a minute.”
“No you don’t.” He turned to see you. Again, he couldn’t help thinking how beautiful you looked against the purple light. “What’s going on? We were having fun, I asked you to dance with me and you didn’t want to, the ambassador didn’t even really ask just took me over, now you’re upset.”
“I never said I didn’t want to dance with you.” He said. “I just didn’t have the...”
“Balls?” He finally laughed a little at that.
“Yeah. He kinda stepped in before I could finally get some.” You heard the music lightly coming through the door and walked over to him, grabbing his arms to wrap them around your waist and you locked yours around his neck.
“There we go. That’s better.” You said. He rested his forehead against yours and you closed your eyes. You swayed together to the faint music, breathing in his musky cologne and your warm and spicy perfume. His arms tightened around you so the tips of your noses touched. You opened your eyes to meet his gaze. While he was someone who didn’t particularly like dancing, he didn’t mind it with you. “You don’t have to be jealous, y’know.”
“Why’s that?”
“Because I don’t want anyone else.” His breath hitched as one of your hands slid down to cup his jaw.
“Darlin’, don’t play games.”
“You heard me earlier. I don’t play games.” You closed the gap between the two of you and kissed him softly. One of the hands wrapped around your waist went up to the back of your neck to pull you impossibly closer. It didn’t take him long to start kissing you back, taking your bottom lip between his. His lips were a little chapped but damn did he know how to kiss. You felt your entire body melting into him as every nerve ending fired. You had to keep yourself from whining when he pulled away.
“I’ve been wanting that to happen a long time.”
“Me too.” He leaned down to kiss you again, fiercer this time as he lead you against the desk. His hands went up to cup your jaw as you grabbed at his back, the dress uniform’s scratchy fabric unpleasant against your fingernails. His tongue darted into your mouth and you welcomed him as he teased you. His hands started moving all over you, wanting to feel as much of you as possible. His mouth moved against your jaw, down to you neck and stopped there. Your breathing had picked up as he kissed against the juncture of your neck and collarbone. “Len-” You gasped out when he kissed, sucked the skin into his mouth. You didn’t care about the mark that would be left there as his lips pressed a soft kiss to the red spot he had created. He pulled away to look at you, his lips slightly swollen.
“Darlin’ I need you to tell me to stop if you don’t want this. I’ve wanted this for so long, wanted to kiss you, to taste you, to feel you.” Your breathing picked up even more as you were rendered speechless. “I just need you to tell me to stop and I will.”
“I don’t want you to. Please Len, don’t stop.” you whispered, pulling at the short hair at the back of his head. You leaned forward and pulled the collar of his shirt down and leaned to give him the same mark he had given you. His hand went to your exposed thigh, feeling the garter that held your phaser. “Always have to be prepared.” You joked, breaking some of the tension. He smiled and pulled the phaser to set it on the chair behind the desk. His hand slid up your thigh again and you jumped a little as he finally reached your panties. His fingers creeped in to find that bundle of nerves that was screaming for attention.
“Shit.” He cursed when he felt how wet you were. He started slowly circling it and your hands went to his biceps, squeezing tightly. His finger moved away from your clit and into your core, quickly joined by a second finger. You were tight around his fingers and you wondered how tight you would feel around his cock. He moved his fingers around a little until he found the spot that made you clench around him and moan into his mouth.
“Yes!” You sighed, his thumb going to rub your clit has his fingers curled inside of you. You messed with his shirt with shaky hands, trying to open it to feel at least some of his skin. When you succeeded, you ran your hands down his chest to reach for his slacks. You pressed your lips together when you felt the bit of wetness at the bulge. You unzipped his pants and pushed them and his underwear down his hips enough to free his cock that slapped against his belly. You both moaned to each other as you ran the palm of your hand over his tip. You encircled him and started jerking him off slowly. The coil in your belly was growing tighter as he continually tapped against you while rubbing the most sensitive part of you. While you always secretly admired his hands, you had underestimated how good his fingers would be. “Shit wait, I don’t want to come yet.”
“What do you need? Whatever you want.” He replied desperately.
“I need you inside me now. I can’t wait anymore.” He cured under his breath and you bunched up your skirt so it wouldn’t get ruined. He pulled his fingers and you swore you could’ve come just from watching him smear your wetness over his cock. He wrapped one of his arms back around your waist with the other holding it, your arms going to grip at his shoulders. His cock caught at your entrance and he grasped the base of himself before slowly starting to push in. Both of your mouths dropped open as he sank into you with small rolls of his hips.
“Fuck you feel too damn good.” You mewled as his accent came out even more. He finally bottomed out inside of you and he felt your grip tighten on his shoulders. “You alright?”
“Perfect, you feel perfect.” You two stayed like that for a moment or two, basking in each other before your hips started to roll as best as they could against him. One of his hands left you to grip the edge of the desk as he pulled out to the tip to push back into you roughly. You could tell he wouldn’t be able to hold back as much as he wanted to as your body bounced against him and the desk creaked underneath you and the fact that you knew the grip he had on your hip would leave bruises. You hooked one of your legs higher around his waist and he gasped out when he sunk even deeper into you. The angle allowed for him to hit the spot that he had found earlier and if it wasn’t for him you would’ve collapsed against the desk. You muffled your cries against his shoulder, still cognisant that you were at a gala.
“Shit, darlin’ I’m not gonna last much longer.” You shook your head against him.
“Me neither.”
“Rub your clit, c’mon.” He groaned into your ear and one of you shaky hands reached down to sloppily circle your clit. He cursed and bit his lip when he felt you clench around him tighter. “C’mon honey, come for me.” Your legs started shaking around him and you felt that coil turning even tighter. “Please come for me.” He whined and you felt that resolve snap inside of you, tingling through every part of your body as your back bowed to press your breasts against him. He kissed you to swallow your cries as your body convulsed. He was soon grunting and groaning loader before you felt hotness cover your walls and his thrusts becoming shorter and deeper. His knuckles were blanched as they went to move your hair out of your face, feeling the imprints the lines of the desk made on his fingers and his breath puffing out against you. Your hands went to feel his pecs, to feel his heart beating wildly.
“See? Told ya you didn’t need to be jealous.” You panted and he chuckled against you, the sound reverberating through you. He leaned down to give you a sweet kiss against your forehead and nuzzled against you.
“We should probably get cleaned up.” He pulled up your panties and you stood up from the desk, squirming when you felt come slide out of you. “Maybe that’ll keep you from dancing with someone else.” You rolled your eyes lovingly and grabbed your phaser to put it back in your garter. You helped him look presentable again and kissed his cheek before going to the door. He grabbed your hand and pulled your back to his chest. “This wasn’t the way I thought that this would happen, but I’m glad it did.”
“How did you want it to happen?” He looked down at you and rubbed his thumb over the mark he had made on your shoulder.
“I would’ve taken you out first once I’d finally gotten the courage to ask you out. Maybe I’d take you to a nice restaurant on a planet like this to get some real food, not replicated. I might take you to a place where you could see the stars because you love ‘em so damn much even though you’re constantly surrounded by them. I was actually trying to track down an old movie you loved so that we could watch it together. I was thinking I would make my move then.” You smiled up at him and played with the medals on his shirt.
“Those things can still happen, y’know. We can still do all of that.” You said. “I would really like to.”
“Me too.” He gave you another kiss before you both left the room, hoping you didn’t leave behind too big of a mess.
XXXXXX
“Janice, I thought it would happen too.” Nyota consoled the yeoman as they wondered where the two of you had went. They had assumed you had both beamed back to the ship after realizing the other was busy either dancing or wallowing.
“But it was perfect! It was just like those sappy vids! Pretty dresses, dancing, two people who won’t admit they’re in love! I just want them to be happy.” “Plus it doesn’t help that we have a bet going.” Hikaru interjected. “If they didn’t get together tonight then she owes me fifty credits.” Nyota shook her head incredulously.
“You two are-” She stopped when she saw the two of you walk back down the stairs together again. “Oh stars-”
“Yes!” Janice celebrated. “Pay up, Hikaru!”
“Wait, that’s not proof of anything!” He whined.
“Think again, hickey at three o’clock.” Hikaru leaned against the table near him and groaned.
“What’s going on?” You asked and they didn’t miss how Leonard had his arm around your waist.
“Oh nothing, we’re just about to toast.” They grabbed some bubbly by a waiter walking by. “To new beginnings and old bets!” Your brows furrowed but you drank from the flute anyway.
You’d figure out what they meant later. For now, you relished being with your doctor and friends.
“C’mon, I owe you a dance.” He said in your ear, leading you away from your friends. Unlike before, you assumed a more formal position with your hand in his, the other on his shoulder, and his other on your hip.
“Glad to see you finally made it out!” Jim chuffed. “Must’ve had enough bourbon.”
“Yeah, that’s it.” Leonard replied and you chuckled. Leonard’s eyes suddenly narrowed over your shoulder before you heard a familiar voice.
“Commander, glad to see you made it back! May I steal you for a moment?” The ambassador asked and you sighed.
“No, you may not.”
“But-”
“She said no. Go chase an asteroid.” Leonard replied and you were surprised at the way he talked.
“Excuse me?”
“Excuse us.” You replied and pushed Leonard away from the ambassador before a diplomatic incident occurred. “Y’know, we’re trying to suck up here.”
“Never was one for kissing ass.” He mused.
“Ah, always with that southern charm.”
“It got you, darlin’.”

Exploring a New World (7/30)
Pairing: James T. Kirk x Reader
A/N: Hi everyone!! I hope you enjoy this chapter as much as I did. I really tried to add a lot more dialogue for Y/n, but feel free to let me know if I should add more lines for the character or any other type of suggestions. If something doesn’t make sense please let me know. I love your comments and it truly helps me keep going!
I just want to apologize for my absence this past week. I wasn’t in a good place mentally because my “friends” are being very cruel to me for some reason so it was very hard for me to concentrate on anything else. It sadly is still an on going situation, but I have my family and my one good friend as well as you all to help me through this so thank you very much!
Just a little FYI: I wanted to add the scene where James becomes Captain in this chapter because I felt it would flow better. However, I’m having a little problem for the next chapter so I moved it there. When I eventually edit this whole series and I’ve hopefully figured out extra scenes for part 8, I’ll probably stick that scene back in this chapter where I originally wanted it.
Tumblr media
Leonard entered the med bay while you closed the curtain around a patient. While he made his way over to you, he said, “you know Spock wanted to speak with you as well, but I saved you the trouble since you usually start hitting people when you’re angry at them.” He stopped right beside you and grinned.
You pushed his arm lightly, “I do not do that.”
He let out a small gasp, “see, you just pushed me.”
“Stop it,” you groaned with a smile. “How’d it go with Spock? Did he take that stick out of his Vulcan butt and admit about making the wrong choice about Kirk?”
“Of course he didn’t,” he scoffed. “All he did was acknowledge our friendship to Jim and then he…”
“Then he what?”
He mumbled something incoherent.
“What? Speak up.”
Leonard crossed his arms as he looked away from you then grumbled, “he threw my metaphor back in back in my face.”
You laughed, “about time someone did.”
“That’s funny to you huh,” he asked to which you nodded in response. “Oh, well then how would you like that I throw your feelings for Jim in your face?”
Your smile fell off your face and was replaced with a slight frown as you shook your head and avoided his eyes, “I-I don’t have feelings for Kirk.”
“Oh really? Okay then, what’s with the weird sexual tension and flirting that’s been happening for the past three years? And why do you only call him, James, when you have your guard down? You only ever call him Kirk when it’s professional or when you’re closing yourself off.” You opened your mouth to speak, but he continued, “I know you care about him, maybe more than you realize, but you can’t keep lying to yourself that you don’t.”
You chewed on your lip as you felt your cheeks heat up. You pondered for a moment, but then scoffed, “you’re ridiculous.”
Chapel walked over to you two, “sorry to interrupt, but Dr. McCoy, one of the injured crew members that were requested for a checkup left before we could proceed.”
Leonard replied, “I’ll see to it. Thank you.” She nodded then went back to her duties. He watched as she walked further away from you both then turned his attention back to you and said, “can you go find him?”
“W-what, no! Leonard, I have my own patients to take care of,” you whined. “My day is full while you’re just sitting around in your office probably picking random gunk off the bottom of your shoes. You just said you’ll take care of it yourself so you do it.”
“I don’t want to look for him,” he whined. “I’m your chief medical officer so you have to do as I say.”
You crossed your arms, “don’t you dare pull rank on me, that’s not fair.”
“Oh I’m definitely pulling rank on you. You think I want to go around looking for a patient who doesn’t want to be here,” Leonard babbled. “so have fun playing hide and go seek because I sure as hell am not playing.”
“You’re the worst pain in my ass,” you remarked.
“Oh, that’s an upgrade. I thought Jim was the worst,” he teased. “Anyways, what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t annoy you at least once every day.”
“A better one,” you mumbled to which he laughed and gave you a light shove towards the exit. You waved him off as you said, “I’m going, I’m going. You owe me one, though.”
~
You walked along the engineering deck pursuing your search for the patient. Just as you turned a corner, you heard someone yell, “Mr. Scott.”
At the sight of a familiar blond, you froze and softly asked, “James?” You shook your head out of your slight daze. “H-How are you back on the ship?”
Kirk chuckled, “that’s a bit of a long sto-” he was interrupted by a knocking within the machinery beside him. Kirk’s eyes went wide and quickly placed his ear to it then yelled, “Mr. Scott, can you hear me?”
You quickly made your way beside Kirk and asked, “is someone actually in there?” A man appeared in the tube who you could only assume was Mr. Scott. “Oh my God.”
“Hold on a second,” Kirk yelled.
You and Kirk ran after the man while following the tube. The man went further away from us as he went up the vertical tube which made Kirk yelled, “No, no!”
Kirk kept his eyes on the man, yet your eyes quickly set on something else. “Kirk,” you said while you tapped his arm. He brought his attention to you and followed the direction to which your eyes were set on. Mr. Scott was heading towards the water turbines.
You ran towards the control board and Kirk quickly followed. You both pressed on various controls to release the valve that was located just before the turbine. The computer announced, “turbine release valve activated.”
The door opened and Mr. Scott fell to the floor with water pooling around him. Kirk kneeled over him and asked, “you alright?”
You knelt beside the two men and asked, “sir, are you okay?”
Mr. Scott sat up and coughed up water. “My heads’ buzzing and I’m soaked, but otherwise I’m fine,” he spoke in a thick accent. He gave you a once-over then turned to Kirk, “do you see her too or am I dreaming?”
Kirk only laughed as he shook his head.
“My name’s Y/n and you must be Mr. Scott,” you said then stuck your hand out.
He gladly took your hand and gave it a firm shake as he responded, “aye, but you call me Scotty.”
Kirk looked over to you and smirked, “what are you doing out here instead of in med bay?”
“Well… we um. We actually lost a patient,” you shrugged.
“I’m so sorry,” Kirk consoled.
“Oh, no! I didn’t mean he’s dead,” you blurted then let out a laugh. “He actually just ran away someplace and Leonard is making me look for him.” Kirk cocked his head slightly with a smile plastered in his face as you rambled on. “Which reminds me that we should probably get going now because they’ll be sending people down here soon.”
Kirk stood up first and lent a hand to you and helped you up. You both then turned to the soaked man and helped him to his feet. Kirk led the way across the engineering deck as you and Scotty followed closely. Once we went up a particular stairway, we were met by officers.
“Halt,” one said.
You all turned around to go in another direction, but were met with another officer who said, “come with me, cupcake!” You recognized him from the name he called Kirk as the officer from the bar a few years back.
They forcefully grabbed the two men you were with. One approached you, but you immediately took a step back as you raised a hand, “I can walk myself perfectly fine, thank you.” He gave you a curt nod and motioned his hand for you walk ahead and follow the others who were dragging Kirk and Scotty.

The origin of this fic is to be set in a conversation I had with @medicatemedrmccoy a few months ago, so I’m blaming her for this and I’d also like to dedicate it to her. Sorry sweetheart that it took me so long. ;)
This may be tagged as Kirk x Reader, but the interactions are mostly between the Reader and Bones, so you mainly have to deal with friendly bickering and them being annoyed.
Fandom: Star Trek AOS
Pairing: Jim Kirk x Reader
Rating: Gen
Warning: the usual cursing
Words: 2335
Jim kinda gets drugged up on some alien food and now Bones and the Reader have to deal with him, which ends in trying to find him on the Enterprise.
“Unbelievable. Of course that stupid infant would get himself drugged up on some alien food, though I told him to scan everything before stuffing his mouth. And now I have to deal with this inebriated pain in the ass. Dammit, I’m a doctor not a babysitter.”
With your arms crossed in front of your chest, you were impatiently tapping your foot and throwing annoyed glances at the ranting doctor who held the whirring tricorder over your madly giggling boyfriend. Said nuisance apparently didn’t want to hold still as he was occupied with trying to grab Leonard’s nose, but so far he was failing gloriously.
The away mission had gone a bit differently than intended. Though the aliens Jim was negotiating with were really nice and this was one of the rather rare peaceful missions, it didn’t go as smoothly as everyone was hoping for.
Proof for that was the Captain, currently not in his right mind, draped all over the biobed while his best friend was checking his vitals and more than once slapping those hands away that were trying to get close to his face.
Like the doctor had said, Jim hadn’t dealt well with one of the alien dishes served, so that after the big banquet they had hosted in honor of their new growing friendship with the Federation, he had to be dragged away by you and Cupcake, who really tried to hold his laughter back, before the Captain had the chance to offend their hosts with his kinda drunk rambling.
Thankfully the aliens were really understandable when Spock excused his Captain and explained them that he did not feel well and had to retreat.
After that you and Cupcake took the loopy man straight to Medbay to the CMO.
Where said doctor wouldn’t stop complaining and acting like the worst drama queen ever. As if Jim being a wasted little shit was his problem alone.
Which was the reason you were really pissed at both men and still tapping your foot.
“Well if you could just shut up for one second? That would be really nice. If I may remember you, this is my boyfriend you’re talking about, so stop acting like you’re the only one suffering, when you know that I’m the one who has to deal with him like that all night and tomorrow in the morning.”
Leonard threw an evil glance back at you and kept on grouching.
“Yeah but so far I can’t see him sticking his dirty fingers into your face.”
“Boop!”
Jim had reached his goal and tapped his friend rather ungently on the nose.
“God dammit Jim, would you just stop that bullshit!”
The doctor, even more annoyed now, tried his best to wrangle the drunk Captain back down on the bed.
But of course Jim, still giggling like the loveable idiot he was, had other ideas than his friend.
Once again he reached for his face, but this time he groped the doctor’s nose instead of just booping it. He looked mighty satisfied when he got it between his thumb and pointer.
“Oooh, Bonsey look! Got your nose!”
Suddenly, the room was completely silent, and Leonard had gone still. Shit, that was no good sign.
While Jim was holding onto the brunet’s nose for his dear life, refusing to let go, the doctor turned his head towards you, trying to stare you down with his most threatening glare.
“Get that out of my Medbay, now!”
You tried your best not to laugh, as that would surely make the situation even worse, but it was really hard not to lose your shit, with the brunet trying to give you orders with a really nasal voice. It was just too hilarious.
“Aww, come on Leonard. Wouldn’t it be best if he slept this off here, where he’s just one second away from a hypospray?”
Finally, he got Jim’s hands away from his face, as he grabbed both wrists and held them down on the bed.
Jim tried his best to free himself out of the firm grip, but no squirming and whining made the agitated doctor let go of his hands.
“No way I’m going to let that menace stay here. I made sure that he’s not going to die and now he’s your problem.”
You sighed, cause this was clearly not how you had expected this to turn out.
“Traitor.”
Meanwhile, Jim had stopped moving. His breath had evened out and his eyes were closed, so Leonard felt safe enough to let go of him, though you thought it was odd for your boyfriend to fall asleep that fast, but who knew, maybe he was just that out of it.
Leonard led you away from the biobed where Jim was resting upon, to turn the conversation away from him and make sure you wouldn’t wake him up.
“I don’t think a hypo will help any further. He’s just drunk, so let him sleep it out in his own bed.”
You stared disbelievingly at him, not quite sure if you had heard right.
“Holy shit, I’ll be damned. I never thought I’d witness the day where Leonard McCoy would voluntarily refrain from hypoing Jim Kirk’s ass. I think I have to mark that day in my calendar. Are you sure that you’re not the one who’s drunk and out of his mind?”
Leonard just scowled at you, apparently he was done dealing with you or his best friend for the rest of this day.
“Dammit, just leave and take that pain in the ass with you. I have enough other shit to take care of. “
Well, it would be better to leave of right here and now. So you turned back to the bed.
Which was empty.
Jim was gone and his comm being left back was the only sign that he had been there at all.
Great, exactly what you needed. The Captain getting lost on his own ship.
The doctor wasn’t happy with Jim vanishing either.
“What the hell? Where the fuck did that menace make off now?! God dammit, can’t I just have one calm day with peace and silence?”
Instead of answering him you just groaned. How the fuck were you supposed to find him? He could have gotten to who knows where, and since he wasn’t in his right mind at the moment, he was unpredictable, too.
The brunet turned around, heading for his office, but not before giving you one last smug glance.
“Well, that’s not my problem any longer. Have fun finding that idiot.”
But before he could take one more step, you grabbed his arm, so that he nearly stumbled.
“Oh no, forget it, Leonard! This is all your fault! If you just had him strapped down onto that biobed, we all would have to worry about one less thing! So you’re coming with me!”
“How is this my fault now? If you just had watched out for what your idiotic boyfriend was up to, none of this would have happened at all!”
Damn, this bickering had to stop, or you couldn’t be held responsible for anything else that would happen. So you took one deep breath, trying to calm down.
“Ok, let’s agree that we disagree and don’t waste our energy with arguing. I’d prefer if we’d concentrate on finding that moron.”
The brunet just snorted, which didn’t help at all.
“This is the first valid thing you’ve said this day so far.”
“Oh shut up, Len.”
+++
In hopes of finding your missing boyfriend faster, you and Leonard had split up. While you headed for yours and Jim’s quarters, Leonard grumbingly went for his own, swearing to maim his friend if he’d find him there and his hidden stash of the good bourbon suddenly gone.
But your quarters were empty, and there was no sign that any of its inhabitants had been there recently.
Searching the mess hall and the observation decks had also been for naught, except that now you knew that Jim was a master at playing hide and seek.
You nearly wanted to give up and call it a day, when you’re comm suddenly beeped:
Did you find him? L.H.M
No luck so far. You? Y.N.
No. What places did we miss? L.H.M.
Uhm… The bridge? Y.N.
Fucking hell… Ok, let's meet there. L.H.M.
+++
About ten minutes later you stepped out of the turbo lift and onto the bridge, where Sulu, currently sitting in the Captain’s chair, looked up from his PADD, frowning as he spotted you.
“Lieutenant Y/L/N? Doctor McCoy? Is everything alright? Did something happen to the Captain?”
The rest of the crew manning the bridge stared at you expectantly, Chekov’s eyes wide and so worried that you needed to play it cool and reassure them, before all hell would break loose.
“Oh no, everything’s fine. Just peachy. I just have a rhetorical question. If you had to search for the Captain, where would you look for him, apart from his quarters, the observation decks and the mess hall?”
“And medbay, the training rooms and the labs.”, Leonard added.
“Yeah. Those, too. But you know, just rhetorically.”
Sulu looked at you sceptically.
“Are you saying that you lost the Captain? Aboard the ship?”
“No! We’re just having a slight disagreement about his current whereabouts!”
The pilot’s expression changed, and this time he was clearly mocking you.
“Which means you have no idea where he is. Have you tried asking the computer to locate him?”
You saw Leonard’s left eye twitch, and had the suspicion that he was preparing himself to launch into one of his angry rants, for which you absolutely had no time now, so you clasped your hand, right as he opened his mouth, over it and answered instead.
“That’s not an option, otherwise we would have tried.”
Thankfully, Chekov interrupted the stagnating discussion, at least he was the only decent human being left and trying to help you by making useful suggestions.
“Have you been down at engineering? Sometimes he’s helping Scotty fix things when he needs a distraction.”
Engineering, of course. You nearly slapped yourself, when you realized what idiots you had been.
“Thank you Pavel, we’re gonna look there for him next. Come on, grumpy pants!”
You grabbed Leonard on the collar of his shirt before he had a chance to complain, dragging him behind you as you were making your way to Scotty’s office.
+++
Down in engineering everything seemed to be pretty calm, which was a small miracle. Normally there was always one or more of the engineers meddling with who knows what parts of the ship, most times added with a cheerily rambling Scot.
“Scotty?”
Several minutes passed before you heard an answer, and just as you wanted to call for him again, he whooshed out of his office.
“Shhh! You’re going to wake up the Captain!”
“So Jim is here? Thank god!”
You followed him back into his office, Leonard who hadn’t said anything yet, close on your heels. But when you finally saw Jim, you did a double take.
“What the hell?”
Jim was sitting at the desk, his head resting on his arms crossed right under it and next to him a box that apparently was filled with metal junk, and you realized that he still was holding onto some of it with his right hand.
Leonard looked at the mischievously grinning engineer, clearly surprised but also amused about the scene in front of him.
“How the hell did you do that? Seriously, you need to tell me your secret.”
And Scotty? He just laughed, grabbed his PADD to show the brunet something.
“I just gave him the box and he tired himself out over fiddling with some of my spare parts. Lets see, I got it all on my PADD, no way I could let you guys miss this out.”
Curious, you stepped right to his other side, looking at the PADD in his hands just in time to see Jim’s joyful expression, as Scotty presented him the scrap metal.
“Hey Jimmy, here is a box of shiny trinkets, knock yourself out.”
Jim, looking like he just got an early Christmas present, started squealing excitedly.
“Oooh, so shinyy!”
You watched as he was fiddling around with the metal, his eyelids slowly dropping when he got too tired after a while. Finally his head dropped down on his arms, and a few seconds later, he was out like a light.
It even got better when he started drooling on his shirt sleeves.
This was honest too good so adorable, you just couldn’t stay mad at Jim any longer, when he looked so young and innocent while snoring slightly in his sleep.
“Ok, come on guys we need to get him into a bed. Len, how about some help here?”
But the doctor was still captivated by the PADD, and as Scotty started the video anew, he was grinning madly.
“Scotty, if you get me that video, I’ll give you one free pass the next time something stupid happens down here. This is too good to be not used for blackmailing.”
“Deal!”
Were those idiots even for real? You send one last evil glare into their direction, before you decided to wake up Jim and get him back to your quarters.
“Hey Jim, wakey wakey.”
The blond groaned, but opened his eyes obediently.
“Noo, five more minutes…”
You couldn’t hold back a giggle, which made Jim realize who was waking him up.
“Y/N? I’m cold… Wanna cuddle... ”
“Come on Jimmy, lets get you to bed, there’s enough space for lots of cuddles.”
While Leonard and Scotty were still leaning over the the Scotsman's PADD you were annoyed, since instead of helping you out, they decided to ignore you completely.
Well, they would regret that later.
And with that you draped your boyfriend’s arm over your neck and tried supporting his still wobbly legs while dragging him off to your quarters.

Where’s My Love - Jim Kirk x Reader
Requested by: @arwen-aurum Prompt: A short story inspired by the song Where’s my love by SYML.  Pairing: Jim Kirk x Reader Words: 1476 Warnings: None.  A/N: A little bit of sadness, a little bit of fluff. I hope you all like it!
Tumblr media
A dark room, cold sheets, your uniform neatly folded and lying on the bed. Next to it, a letter.
James Kirk stood in the room, PADD in one hand, an empty cup of coffee in the other. His breathing was calm and controlled, not a single emotion visible on his face. Yet, he couldn’t move.
He had only come back to your shared quarters because you hadn’t answered a single one of his messages and he needed to make sure you knew that he wouldn’t make it to dinner tonight (again).
Of course, Jim got a feeling of what it meant when he found the room like this. It shouldn’t have surprised him as much as it did. It was bound to happen sooner or later. He expected relief to settle in, but instead he felt a lump in his throat and cold fear creeping up inside of him.
Something had begun to change months ago.
In the beginning, neither of you wanted to admit it. All relationships went through rough phases, this was just one of those. Â After all, it couldn’t always sunshine and rainbows, sometimes it’d be heavy rain and thunder too. Loving someone would go hand in hand with fighting for them but you always knew, the struggles were worth it - the feelings of uncertainty would pass eventually, the distance between the two of you would shrink again.
Not this time.
It started so quietly, with little things, often so unimportant they nearly went by unnoticed. Soon, they began to grow and grow though until it became hard for you to breath, walk, exist around each other.
When you woke up in the mornings, Jim wasn’t there anymore to wrap his arms around you, whispering sweet nothings in your ear and begging you to stay in bed for just two more minutes. Instead, he was already in the shower or getting dressed.
Conversations during lunch turned into silence, I love you’s were replaced with I can’t make it to dinner tonight. His jokes, which in the beginning, left you crying from laughing so hard, began to sound dull in your ears. Your constant want of body contact that he once found endearing, suddenly seemed clingy and needy. There were times when you couldn’t keep your hands of each other. Now, when you reached for him during the nights, he pulled away, turning to stare at the wall instead.
The laughter in your quarters, the silly singing and dancing to classic music - it all slowly vanished. Instead, you fought about why he always left his clothes on the floor or why you never remembered to put your coffee mug back where it belonged. Date nights were more and more spent drinking with Bones or talking to Nyota.
You and Jim seemed to have forgotten how to be together.
The sound of Jim’s PADD catapulted him back into reality. Slightly confused, he looked at it, only to see a message from Spock, who was asking what was taking him so long.
He turned his gaze back to the bed where the white of the letter was almost blinding, even though the room was just dimly lit. Cautiously, he walked towards the bed, putting everything down with unsteady hands, still staring at the piece of paper in front of him now.
Jim let out a shaky breath when the realization hit him.
This was it. The end. The war was lost. You had given up and surrendered - and it hurt.
Suddenly he knew what to do.
***
He found you on one of the observatory decks. Not just on any of them - it was the place where you shared your first kiss after weeks of stolen looks and shameless flirting. Everybody on the ship had known how you felt, Scotty had even started to collect bets when it would happen. In the end, it was you who was finally brave enough to make the first step. So one evening, when you found him here all by himself, you just kissed him without warning. It took him by surprise to say the least, but your bluntness made him fall for you even quicker.
Tonight, you were here again. Alone, watching how the Enterprise passed far away stars and constellations. When Jim walked inside, you didn’t turn around. You had expected him to come here after reading your words.
“I suppose there are things you don’t quite understand?” You asked and gritted your teeth, desperately trying to hold back tears.
“No.”   .
A bit bewildered, you quickly glanced at him before looking back out of the window. “Have you not read the letter?”
“I didn’t need to.” With two steps, he was next to you. “I knew what was inside. I didn’t want to read it.”
You chuckled but there was no trace of happiness in your laugh. “I highly doubt that you knew I wanted to transfer to another ship.”
Jim didn’t reply for a few seconds. “Alright,” he admitted. “I didn’t expect that.”
You dropped your head and let out a sigh. Raising your hand to rub your eyes, you were stopped by Jim, who caught it midair. He intertwined his fingers with yours, such a strange and familiar feeling at once. The situation was starting to overwhelm you.
“Y/N”, he whispered and you couldn’t remember the last time your name had sounded like that, coming from his mouth. “Look at me, please.”
It cost you more of an effort than you wanted to admit - but eventually you raised your eyes to meet his. What Jim saw, broke his heart. How could it have come to this? Where did the two of you go wrong?
“Jim, I can’t do this anymore.”
He shook his head, ignoring what you just said. “Do you remember our last shore leave on Earth? We went to that diner in San Francisco. The little one where -”
“I know, I know. It’s one of my favorite places,” you cut him off. “I don’t understand what it has to do with -”
“No, let me finish please,” he insisted and squeezed your hand a little when you nodded. “Do you also remember the family on the table next to us? Parents and two very loud, very adorable kids. The parents looked so stressed and annoyed because the girl threw a fit about not getting ice cream as dessert. Most of the other customers just rolled their eyes, one even complained about it.”
“I remember,” you said softly. You had celebrated your one year anniversary on that day.
“You also remember what I said?” He paused, looking into your eyes, but not giving you a chance to answer. “I said that I wanted this. With you. Because even though the parents seemed to be on the edge of a mental breakdown, they were happy. Everyone could see that even then.”
“And?”
“Nothing has changed since then. I still want it. I see it now.”
“Jim...”
“Do you? Do you want it?”
“Don’t you see, everything has changed!” The angry words burst out of you, louder than intended. You wanted to break up, wanted to leave, and he dared to come here, confessing his love? “Everything has changed, we’re not who we used to be and I don’t know if we can come back from all of this!” The tears you had tried to hold back, were now streaming down your face and it made you angry - angry that you still felt so deeply for him.
“I do,” Jim remained calm, his voice soothing. “I know that we can fix it if we want to and I want nothing more.”
“What makes you so sure?!”
He put one hand to your face, his thumb stroking over your cheek. You sniffled a bit and he wiped away the tears, smiling. “I love you, Y/N. Always have, always will. No one could replace you and there is nothing more important to me than you.”
For whatever reason, you believed him, or maybe you just wanted to believe him. Wanted to think that your relationship wasn’t completely lost yet, that you were still meant to stay together after all.
You opened your mouth to say something but nothing seemed right in your head. Nothing, except for one single sentence: “I love you, too.”
Jim let out a sigh of relief when he heard those words coming from you. It was now that he began to see hope for the relationship. Tiny and very far away, but it was there. A small light in the darkness. The two of you could get through this, he was sure of it.
“But what do we do?” You asked. “Where do we start?”
“We start by you coming home,” he replied and leaned forward to kiss your forehead.
“And where is home?”
“Here. On the Enterprise. Wherever we can be together.”

Libertatem - Part 1
Summary: A Science Station goes radio silent - when Scotty and his engineering team are sent to reestablish communication, things go south fast and hard.
Wordcount: 1500
A/N: Okay, this is a lot darker then what I’ve written previously. I hope you like it, please let me know :) I will also update this a bitslower, sinceI’m getting married in 4 days.
Warnings: angst, injury, combat
Tumblr media
Rain drizzled down on your shoulders - cold and gentle, the kind of rain that didn’t bother you at first but would drench you slowly and treacherously over the course of a few hours. The water had slowly crept through your layers of clothing, first dripping off the water-resistant outer layer - but drop after drop had found it’s way down your neck and into your red uniform until it was heavy with soddeness. After the water had conquered your uniform it had continued to run into your shoes until your feet felt slippery and had lost all feel to them. You longed for the warmth of your quarters and dreamt of fuzzy warm socks. When you had joined starfleet academy you would never have thought that you’d ever long for a pair of fresh dry socks and a mug of hot cocoa like this. You would never have expected to find yourself standing in the dark on an unexplored planet either - it’s lifeless alien rocks stretching out endlessly across you. The small mobile research station was the only spot of light and life in an unfriendly environment. As far as you had caught up on mission papers starfleet scientists were attracted to this Class M planet because of it’s unique structure - breathable atmosphere, water in abundance, but devoid of all life. And right next to the neutral zone. Which was the reason you were standing here, soaking, tired, in the middle of the night with one of your crew mates. You had hoped to chat with him during duty but he had proven taciturn and without much humor, so you’d given up after a couple of failed attempts to strike up conversation with him.
You had only been here for a couple of days - and at that moment you hated every minute of it, the coldness and your wet feet a reminder of your friends who had become pilots or officers. „Ensign Y/L/N, please do the rounds across perimetry.“ you had only seen him once before -somewhere in the first few hours where you had been introduced to everybody - and forgotten that Lieutenants name. He could have done the perimetry check himself, but since you were the freshman you desisted from getting in an argument, but sighed instead and saluted. „Aye, Sir.“
The building was not huge or massive - but big enough for a good half-hour walk with plenty of opportunity to get your boots even muddier and rocks and debris enough to break an ankle for those who walked carelessly. You had just finished half of that round and leant against a rock, when everything went white with a soft boom that resonated in your breast and blinded you. Grapping for your phaser you stumbled forward, fiddling with it’s settings. Agony hit you next - a sharp pain in your left leg, shooting up from the ankle, a feeling as if someone had jabbed a hot iron rod right into your calves. Yelping with pain you doubled over, still blind, phaser falling from your hand and sliding into the dark somewhere beyond your reach. „Shit, Shit. LIEUTENANT!“ you yelled, but nobody answered. Your hands slipped on the mud around you, feverish grabbing for something - anything to hold onto. Nothing, nothing - then a rock. You pulled yourself up, groaning with pain and only half conscious. It was then when you noticed muffled shoutings, harsh voices in a language you didn’t recognize at once. It was hard to think now. Thought seemed to drip away sluggishly and slowly, like honey trickling from a spoon. The voices came closer and you felt yourself slip from your rock, down to the ground again. A second impact, right into your arm, robbed you of consciousness, just as a thought had fought it’s way up to your aware self.  That language. Romulan. Silence and Darkness followed.
One month later
„Enterprise, this is Captain Kirk speaking“, the relatively young voice sounded hollow as it resonated through the ships belly over intercom. Montgomery Scott had to stop tinkering and slid out from under a panel, jerking his head upwards to listen. „We will change course for an urgent mission. Science Station Utara Delta has ceased all contact a month ago. Located on a Class M planet near the neutral zone we must enter the planets orbit and send a reconnaissance team to re establish communication. Due to the proximity to the neutral zone we have to be careful and vigilant.“ he cut general transmissions and Scotty could hear how he changed channel, just by the tone the wiring at one of the panels made. „Mr. Scott, you’re going to accompany a small engineering away team. I’ll meet you in the transporter room in 15 minutes.“
It was not like he had a warp core to tend too, or power structures to control, or general infrastructure requiring his attendance. But away missions had priority, especially this one as it seemed. He grabbed his tool belt and strung it around his hips, gave last orders („Dinnae let this small bar reach 80%, ya hear me lad?“) and told Keenser off for the last time to get off the pipes. Only a few moments later he was in the transporter room, surrounded by red shirts of both engineering and security. They were a small team, he counted 10 straightaway. „Okay, here’s the deal.“ Kirk folded his arms in front of him. „You’ll be transported down 5 at a time, evaluate the situation and reestablish communications as soon as possible. Any sign of trouble and we’re gonna beam you out immediately. Keep in contact at all times.“ The first 5 members of the away team stepped into the transporter room, there phasers in hand. „Secure the perimeter at once. Energize.“, said Kirk and at that they were transported away. Scotty stood there for a second, next to him. „Be careful, Mr. Scott“, Kirk said and the scotsman nodded, showing him a quick smile. „I can be handy if I want ta, Sir.“ „I’m assured of that, Mr. Scott.“ He straightened his uniform and stepped on the platform. A moment later he was transported away.
Smoke. It filled his lungs after the first breath he took on that world. Filled his lungs with the second and he was coughing and gagging by the time he took his third. This was not supposed to happen. It was a Class-M planet - human-sufficient air, drinkable water deposits. The smoke burned in his eyes and tears filled them in a desperate attempt to get rid of the particles clinging to his retina. They were red within seconds. This could not happen. He heard a scream, turned around on his spot and felt panic creep like ice through his veins. His reflexes and his training taught him to duck and run for cover. There was something, a structure - he duck and ran, the smoke following him like a loyal dog. Something buzzed past him, hot, leaving the stench of burnt hair once it had passed and he slid to the ground in reflex, felt rocks rip open the skin of his hands. His fingers felt along his tool belt until they found the familiar shape of his communicator. Another thing buzzed past him and voices yelled. That language, he thought, it sounded familiar. He flipped open the communicator, just as something scorched the side of his chest and he cried out in pain. „Request immediate evacuation.“ he yelled. „Come on, work, ya awful thing, immediate evacuation requested. We’re under attack. Immediate Evacuation.“ He ducked behind a rock, grabbing his side, hissing with pain now. Absolute chaos surrounded him and the flicker of flames and ever present smoke prevented him from deciphering who was friend and foe, who was attacking or defending. „Beam us out, now!“ he hissed into the communicator, as a dark figure appeared in front of him, seemingly out of no where. Realization hit him, but it hit too late, hit him with too much surprise to act upon it. His world went dark and his communicator never answered.
„We’ve lost them, Keptin“, Chekovs voice was hollow, as if transmitted through ship intercomm, but he was right there, at the transporter consoles. „What do you mean, lost? Where are they?“ that was Kirks voice - stressed, his lips pressed together and brow furrowed. „They are.. gone, Zeer. Just gone. No transporter signal, nothing, Keptin.“ „Uhura, please run a scan on all frequencies. Look for .. anything unusual.“ the Captain hailed bridge through intercomm, then turned around to face his vulcan first officer, who was observing the situation. Solid as a rock. „What do you make of this, Spock?“ „This is very hard to determine without further evidence. Our scans returned clean, without any signs of lifeforms. I would advice further scans and reconnaissance from orbit until we decide on our next action.“ Of course Spock was collected, analyzing as always. And right. Right even if his first impulse was to jump into the transporter himself. „Ensign Chekov return to your post at once and run deep scans of the entire system.“ „Aye, aye, keptin.“

Y/n felt her stomach drop as they reappeared, and it wasn’t entirely due to the transporter.  As soon as she could, she looked over at the spot where Spock and Scotty had been.
“Scotty, you all right?”  Jim asked the two of them, his concern imperfectly hidden.
“Let’s not do tha’ again, sir.”  Scotty replied, heaving himself to his feet.  Y/n shushed them, drawing everyone’s eyes and momentarily halting conversation.  She drew confused frowns; until everyone looked around.
They were not in Engineering.  They had instead materialized in a hallway near the Engine Bay.  Bodies lined the walls.  All were crewmen of the Enterprise, and only some were recognizable.
They’d all heard Y/n tell them that she’d run into copies of them, had failed to save them, but actually seeing it was a different thing.
They were all up there.  Hung on the walls by grey-black-green tentacles like slabs of beef.  There were easily about six of each of them on the walls.  Unconscious, thankfully.  Face-huggers covered everyone’s mouth and nose.  Their limbs were all restrained, so even if they had been conscious, they couldn’t have moved.
No one spoke; they all just stared, uncomprehending of the horror that was in front of them.
Scotty ripped his helmet off, stumbling towards a wall before vomiting noisily.  Leonard was over there in a moment, tricorder out and scanning Scotty.
“You all right, Mr. Scott?”  Jim asked softly.
“We need to stay quiet and get moving.”  Y/n interrupted, trying not to look at anything.  At any of them.
“We should-” Scotty croaked, regaining control of his stomach.
“Put your helmet back on!”  Y/n snapped at him.
“Y/n,” Jim began gently.
“She is correct, captain.”  Spock chimed in, speaking softly.  “The Xenomorphs implant eggs in their victim’s stomach by accessing the esophagus.  Once implantation has occurred, it is impossible to save the host.”  There was a moment of silence to absorb Spock’s words, before Scotty cursed in Gaelic and fumbled his helmet back on.
“They’ll be guarding this place.  We need to keep moving or we’ll get swarmed.  All sound needs to be kept to a minimum.”  Y/n ordered them.  Everyone glanced at Kirk, waiting for his brief nod, before they took out weapons again.
“Can’t we save them?”  Scotty hissed a whisper as they moved through the hallway, carefully and alert.
“They’re not real, Scotty.”  Jim replied, speaking just as quietly.
“Even if they were, removal of the eggs is impossible.  The only mercy we could grant them is a quick death.”  Spock said.
“That’d get us swarmed for sure.”  Y/n added.  Her voice was a little tense, drawing Leonard’s concerned gaze.  She wanted to help them, badly.  The inability to help, to even grant them a merciful death was killing her.
“Anybody know which way to the queen?”  Leonard wondered aloud.
“Engine Bay’s that way.”  Jim answered, gesturing in a direction with the barrel of a shotgun.
The group made their way through the hatchery slowly, trying with little success to avoid looking at the bodies on the wall.  Jim spotted a duplicate of himself whose eyes were open.  They made eye contact for a moment, and he could see the despair and desperation in his double’s eyes, the silent plea to kill him.  Jim swallowed bile and looked away.  He suddenly understood Y/n’s lack of emotion.  She’d done this about eight times, kept having to watch friends, to watch Leonard get taken by these things over and over, and couldn't do anything about it.  It was a wonder she hadn't gone mad.
There were odd, vine-like things covering the walls, even between prisoners.  One of them made a wet, squirming noise.  Jim heard Y/n’s breathing pick up, and her, Scotty, and Spock all snapped their weapons towards the noise.  The three people in the room with any knowledge of the movies were all obviously concerned about it; Jim didn't ask, yet; he just turned his weapon with them and waited in the tense silence.
Nothing happened.  And still no one moved, everyone hardly daring to breathe.
“All right, guys.”  Jim began, his voice hushed.   “Anyone wanna tell me what-”
If this had been real, Jim would have been highly suspicious at the timing that he kept being interrupted.  As it was, he just chalked it up to Y/n’s subconscious sense of irony.  His thoughts were interrupted, when the space of wall they were staring at squealed again, then made a popping sound and produced a face-hugger.  Four weapons opened fire all at once, quickly annihilating the creature.  Weapons fire died an instant later, and everyone just stood there for a long moment, panting into the silence.
“What the hell are those things?”  Jim wondered, accidentally voicing the thought aloud.
“They deposit eggs into their victims’ stomachs, Captain.  In the movies, they attach to the victims faces, sometimes for days, and are impossible to remove without killing the victim.”  Spock supplied.
“Did you have to say that?”  Leonard demanded.
“I was simply answering the Captain’s inquiry.”
“It was a rhetorical question, Spock.”  Jim chimed in.
More squealing came from around them, killing the conversation as weapons snapped up.  It gave them a second or two of warning, before at least fifty of the things burst from the walls around them.  There were a few yelled curses before everyone opened fire at their feet.  Y/n’s breathing quickened, and she had to force herself to focus on the moment, on shooting as many of them as she could.  One of them sailed through the air towards Leonard’s faceplate.  She sniped it out of the air at the last moment, just before it touched the glass protecting his face.  She had a moment to take in his pale and shocked expression before she resumed shooting.
“Spock!”  Jim shouted, drawing everyone’s attention to the half Vulcan.  Two of them were on his faceplate.  Y/n heard the glass crack and splinter, and her stomach dropped.  She froze; most of the facehuggers were gone, but for the two on Spock’s face.  She could fire at them, but all of her weapons would take out the rest of Spock’s faceplate.  And possibly his head.
Leonard appeared in her line of vision then; he had produced a knife from somewhere, slashing expertly and surgically at the facehuggers until one dropped lifeless from his helmet.
Time slowed next.  Y/n heard the glass on his helmet give way, and the remaining facehugger fell towards his face.  She heard gunfire behind her; Scotty or Uhura maybe?  Dispatching the remaining facehuggers.  She screamed Spock’s name, watched Leonard try to slash at the facehugger before it reached him.  Len was moving too slowly, however, and Y/n’s voice failed as the facehugger attached to Spock’s face.
She couldn’t move.  The gunfire died; apparently all the others were taken care of.  The rest of the crew crowded around Spock, and she distantly heard them speaking.  She didn’t know what they said, all talk reduced to babble.  She couldn’t move.  Couldn’t save him.  Again.  She’d lost him again.
Her vision started to fade, until she felt a pain in her shoulder penetrate the fog in her brain.
“-sten ta me, lassie.  Ye’ve got ta breathe, alright?  Just listen to my voice and try to breathe with me.”  Scotty’s voice came, and she realized he was squeezing her shoulder with his hand hard enough to get her attention.  He spoke softly, continuing to urge her to calm until he heard her take a ragged breath, rewarding her with a smile.  She returned it, albeit a weak and uncertain smile, trying to thank him with her eyes.  He just gave her a nod, not saying another word.
They returned to Spock in time to see his hands reach up for the facehugger, dig his fingers under the top of it, and, incredibly, slowly pry the thing off his face.
It took all of Y/n’s strength not to vomit.
The remains of the helmet were quickly pulled off his face by the others, and the half Vulcan turned onto his side and proceeded to cough and vomit onto the floor.
“Captain.”  Spock said a few minutes later, rising shakily to his feet.
“Spock, we - Bones, is there-”  Jim was actually at a loss for words for once.
“Captain, there is no point.”  Spock interrupted him.  “For one, it has been established by the movies that I am already implanted with a Xenomorph embryo, and that it is impossible to remove without killing me.  And two, let me remind you, this is just a dream.  It is very unlikely that I am in any real physical danger.”
“Spock, you-” Leonard began, not in much better state than Jim.
“Doctor, I will be fine once we awaken.  For now, I suggest we make the most of the time I have left.”  Spock suggested.  No one spoke for a long moment, everyone trying to swallow Spock’s suggestion.
“As soon as we’re outta here, I expect you to report to medbay.”  Leonard ordered Spock.
“Doctor, your concern is illogical; the xenomorphs are nothing more than projections produced by-”
“Don’t argue with me, damnit!  I am the CMO, and I can and will order your stubborn ass to medbay if I want to!”
“As you wish, Doctor.”  Spock sighed.
Spock lead the group through the narrow hallway, blessedly out of the hatchery.
“Shouldn’t we be seeing more Xenomorphs?”  Jim wondered softly.
“That is unlikely, Captain.”  Spock replied.  “Xenomorphs function a great deal like most earth insects; the ‘queen’ spends most of her time laying eggs.  Any adult workers would mostly likely eat the eggs if they encountered them freshly laid.  As such, the queen will eat any other adults she encounters to protect the eggs.”
“Charming.”  Scotty commented, sounding faintly green.
Mercifully, they passed through the part of the hallway containing the bodies without further incident.  Y/n’s stomach was no less jumpy, however; she kept expecting the queen to jump out at any moment.
“Lieutenant Y/n, you got that - that Cain thing?”  Jim asked softly. Y/n fumbled for a moment, replacing the revenant on the sheathe on her back and drawing the Cain.
“Yes, sir.  It's got quite the radius, though.  You guys’d better keep your distance from the queen.”  Y/n replied.
“We’ll try.”  Jim began grimly.  “But whatever happens, as soon as you have a shot, take it.  Understood?”
“Yes, sir.”  Y/n answered faintly.
“Remember, Lieutenant; this is just a dream.  You will not be able to seriously injure us.”  Spock chimed in helpfully.
“Yes, sir.”  Y/n replied mechanically.
They entered the Engineering bay, and the place was transformed.
The light was dim, enough to make it difficult to make your way around the place without tripping over something.  There were more of the grey tentacles covering everything, making the whole place seem disgustingly wet.  They lined even the walls and ceiling, giving a grotesquely artistic look to everything.  It almost looked like bone or resin.
It was revolting and wrong to see the room look like that.
“Would anyone mind if I threw up again?”  Scotty asked, his voice low enough to barely travel to the rest of the group.
“I might join you,” Leonard replied.
“Better hold it in, gentlemen.  No time for it just now.”  Jim told them.
No one spoke after that; they all had their weapons out and ready.  Y/n’s hands were surprisingly steady on the Cain.  She only had two shots with it; she knew she couldn’t afford to jump at shadows.  She kept to the middle of the group, everyone’s senses on hyper alert.
“She’s messing with us,” Jim murmured to himself from the front of the group.  They’d been wandering engineering for a few minutes, and had no sight of her.  He turned slightly, targeting an ankle high clump of what looked like an egg, and let out a short, targeted burst on it from his assault rifle.  There were more disgusting squelching noises as he easily killed the thing inside.
An angry roar came from the darkness somewhere off on Jim’s left.  Everyone spun towards it, but the first one to react was Y/n.  She aimed the Cain at the center of the patch of shadow, and he saw her pull the trigger.  Nothing happened, at first, and Jim’s stomach gave a sickening lurch.  The barrel of the enormous weapon opened like a flower, and he heard it make a whirr.  It did that for around three seconds, before giving a thunk and expelling a single huge bullet.  For a bullet, it traveled slowly, but after a second or two it hit the wall where the queen was hiding.  She followed it quickly with another shot, just before the first one hit.
Despite all the warnings, the size of the explosion shocked Jim, and nearly threw them all off their feet.
“Well.”  Scotty said aloud, a few moments later.  “That’s that, then.”
“Umm, guys?”  Uhura asked hesitantly.  “If that worked, then why are we still here?”
More low growling punctuated Uhura’s words, and they slowly turned to face it.
The queen.  Still alive, despite the explosions.
“Oops.”  Y/n said, her voice small.
Then the real fight began.
Spock and Uhura recovered first, laying into the queen with the powerful assault rifle.  The impact of so many bullets forced her back, drawing a furious scream from her.  They didn’t puncture her thick hide, but the impact was definitely chipping away at her skin’s natural defense.
“Anybody got any ideas?”  Jim yelled from cover.
Y/n was, much to her surprise, not panicking.  She crouched near Jim, tossing the now-useless Cain to the ground, and reached behind her for the Revenant assault rifle.  She was fresh out of plans, ideas, even theories.
“I’ve got it, sir!”  Scotty yelled from nearby.  “Just keep that bitch busy!”  He ran out of sight, not waiting for a reply.
Jim shook his head and smirked a little, amused at Scotty’s enigmatic quirks even in the desperate situation.  “All right, everyone.  You heard the man.  Keep her out of Scotty’s hair.”
Y/n, Jim, and Leonard stood then from their respective covers, lifting their weapons and joining Uhura and Spock.  The revenant in Y/n’s arms roared to life, joining the other weapons.  The combined fire easily ripped into the queen’s torso, drawing a scream of pain and bright green blood.
“Stay away from her blood!”  Y/n yelled, her fear dissipating at the easy friendship, and hope finally blooming in her chest.  “It’s acid!”
They continued to fire, trading off as the each took time to reload, and keep the queen pinned to the walls.
“Scotty!”  Jim yelled after what felt like an eternity.  “How much longer?”  They were starting to run out of bullets, and he was beginning to worry.  Scotty didn’t reply, as he was out of earshot.
The only warning they had was an odd noise from the warp core, before it churned and suddenly blew, flooding the room with intense bright light.  Y/n heard the queen screaming in pain, before the noise was drowned out, and all she could see was white.

Broken Promises - Bones x Reader
Words: 1311 Pairing: Bones x Reader Warnings: Pregnant Reader, accident, mention of blood
“Attention all crew members, this is Captain Kirk speaking. In about one hour, we will enter the atmosphere of the class M planet Nibiru. Due to some unforeseen weather conditions, we will enter a massive storm immediately which may cause turbulence. The mission will be postponed to tomorrow in order to prevent the volcano from erupting. Please be careful and I want all departments on standby. Kirk out.”
“Huh. You would think that a starship like the Enterprise can withstand these kinds of turbulences,” grumbled Leonard as he took the last sip of his replicated coffee and immediately grimaced. “Well, at least when this godforsaken mission is over, we’ll be back on Earth and we can drink some actual coffee instead of this replicated horseshit.”
You snorted and looked up from your PADD. “You’re such a morning person, Len. It’s unbelievable,” you said teasingly.
Although Leonard tried his best to simply roll his eyes and remain grumpy, a small smile appeared on his lips nonetheless. “You know me, darlin’. There’s only one thing worse than trying to get Jim to the Medbay for his annual medical exam, and they’re called mornings.”
“Amen to that,” you replied. “By the way, your shift starts in three minutes.”
Leonard groaned and it was you who rolled your eyes this time. Your fiancé would complain for days about his job, but you knew that there was nothing in this universe he’d rather do with his life.
“I’ll see you tonight, then?” asked Leonard and walked around the table to give you a kiss. “And you, too.” He bent down to press a second kiss to your belly, which had grown bigger over the past few weeks. “I can’t believe he’s going to be here in just three months.”
You smiled slightly as seeing him like this warmed your heart. “Me neither. It’s all gone by so fast. I’m so excited.”
“You’ll be a fantastic mother.”
“Hopefully.” You nudged him playfully with your hand. “But you have to go! You’re late.”
“Alright, fine,” Leonard chuckled, got up and grabbed his PADD. “I love you!”
“I love you, too.”
“Don’t work too hard. Take care of my little boy.”
“I will. Promise.”
You also made your way to the science labs shortly after Leonard left your shared room. If your soon-to-be husband had his way, you wouldn’t have worked at all since the day you discovered you were pregnant. However, you felt perfectly fine and you couldn’t stand around doing nothing.
Today was an especially slow day in your department due to the postponed mission, so you spent most of your time finally catching up on some long overdue reports.
“Doctor Y/L/N.” You looked up when you heard Commander Spock called your name. “I believe that belongs to Mr. Scott, yes? He should have collected it last night.” He pointed at a part of the main engine which rested on a table across from you. Scotty gave it to you to inspect because some strange algae began to grow on it after you left the last Starbase, and he was worried it would spread.
“Yes, it does. I don’t know why it’s still here. I’ll ask him about it.”
“Very well,” replied Spock. “Seeing as we are heading into a storm, ensure that it is secured tightly. After all, we were warned about potential turbulences for this morning. Also, you should not carry anything too heavy in your current state, so allow one of your colleagues to do it.”
“Yes, Commander.”
You turned back to your report once he left the room. It was almost finished so you’d take care of the engine part in a moment.
“Give me a second. I’ll do it,” said your colleague and friend Lilli when you finally got up from your chair a few minutes later.
“No, I can do it,” you said. “I’ll just put it over here where it can’t fall down.” Probably the only thing you loathed about your pregnancy was when people constantly treated you like you were too damn fragile and couldn’t carry out simple tasks. After walking over to the table, you lifted the engine part and groaned slightly because it was heavier than expected.
In one moment, everything was fine. You already turned around to place it somewhere else when the whole ship shook violently. The next thing you realized was a blinding pain shooting through your body. You fell to the ground with the engine part on top of you.
“Shit. Shit!” Lilli jumped up from her chair and rushed over to you, pushing the heavy object away with a groan. “Are you okay?”
You couldn’t answer as you struggled for breath. In the corner of your eyes, you saw as she flipped open her communicator and called for help.
“I’m okay,” you rasped a few seconds after you were able to catch your breath. “I’m—argh—shit!” Sitting up wasn’t the best idea. There was another wave of pain, a cramp so severe which you haven’t experienced before.
Cramps, you suddenly realized. Your hands went to your belly in deep fear.
“I don’t think you’re okay,” said Lilli nervously. “Don’t sit up, just lie down. The medics will be here any second.”
“The baby,” you whispered, trying to fight the tears caused by another cramp. “Shh, it’s okay. Don’t worry, the—”
“The baby!” you repeated more forcefully.
Lilli finally understood what you wanted to tell her. She turned her gaze away from your face and to your horror, she became as pale as the hallway’s walls.
“What?” you whispered. “What is it?”
“Nothing—”
“Don’t lie to me!”
“There’s just—” Lilli swallowed hard, “there’s blood.”
You didn’t quite remember what happened next. Perhaps it was out of shock or the pain eventually became unbearable. You heard voices around you and hands grabbed you to lift you up. Surgery was a word you were able to grasp. Surgery, it echoed through your mind. My baby, was the last thought you had before everything went black.
***
You woke up a few hours later. The pain was gone, yet a numb feeling remained. You looked to the side, still dizzy from the anesthetics and unable to form clear thoughts.
Leonard sat next to you while holding your hand. You immediately knew something was wrong. He remained silent despite you gaining your consciousness. The only emotion visible on his face was one of pure pain and it slowly began to dawn on you. Something inside of you felt like it was shattering into a thousand little pieces.
“I broke my promise, didn’t I?”
There was no reply from him, but a single tear rolled down his cheek.
***
You gasped and sat up straight on your bed. You were sweating and you felt your heart pounding in your chest.
“A dream,” you whispered when you realized where you were. Not in the Medbay but your own bed with your fiancé sleeping next to you. Your hands went to your belly and you let out a relieved sigh, almost a sob. He was still there. Your baby was fine. He would be here in just a few months and nothing would happen to your family. No, you weren’t going to Nibiru. You’ve been there almost three years ago.
“It was just a dream.” You released another deep breath.
“Darlin’?” Leonard’s sleepy voice pulled you out of your thoughts.
A smile appeared on your face as you turned to look at him in the dim room and sank back into your pillow.
“Everything okay?” He yawned and reached out for your hand.
“Yes.” You leaned over to give Leonard a soft kiss. “I’m fine. I had a bad dream, that’s all. But it’s good now.”
“Mhmm,” he made an indefinable sound.
“I love you.”
“Love you, too,” mumbled Leonard as he drifted back to sleep.
