General Review:

Just wow. I did in fact spend like all day reading this and I do not regret it and even though it’s not done… this is literally a 5/5 read. Firstly the way that my baby Tay writes is so phenomenal and the depictions of the relationships and the amount of emotions and thought they she puts throughout the story makes everything so worth it. I really felt so attached to the characters and the overall story like i didn’t care how long the chapters were because i was so interested in the world she build and the CHARACTERS. Like it just keeps getting better and better; the amount of drama and messy that kept me on my toes every chapter. I cannot wait for the next chapter. The amount of stuff that went down in this fic and the route it’s going down idek how she got the life depicted in the first chapter because it’s shit happening every second like whew. I literally got so emotional reading this especially the more recent chapters because my heart hurtssss for reader so bad and it’s just so much strain on her and idgaf that’s my girl! I support women’s wrongs and she got a lot of them but that’s my baby like omg!

Now let’s delve in to my reactions ofc 🙈

CHAPTER 1: okay so obsessed with the fact that reader has a daughter firstly. The way you describe reader’s relationship and the dynamic she has with Armin and even the shift to his pov was very seamless and perfectoooo. The way you got in his head and i feel immersed inside of his thoughts about her and i just thought it was really well written and so beautifully executed. “Being with you but not truly being with you was like having an itch that begged to be scratched.” Like that line right there? It burneddd me and make me feel for him and overall i got invested. Can I add that Armin working in a bakery was very on par with his character lol? Like i love it. Your description of anything is very addicting as well let me add, im a sucker for details so i loved it. I was cheesing DOWN during their moments and when he took her to their childhood hangout place and the hold “date” bit came up and the “but even so, the implication of romance with him felt as natural as breathing.” Likeeee omg i was blushing. “I was always planning on leaving, but…not without you.” Oh that moved me like bad. I’m a sucker for childhood friends to lovers and hearing them reminiscing and just wanting to move out of where they are to make a lifeee was so good. “Since when was he ever so lucky? Since when did fate decide to show him a little bit of pity and mercy? The universe had taken everything from him before he was even old enough to know how to spell the word “universe.”” UGHH you’re killing meeee. And then armin’s backstory stop 😞😞😞. WHEN ARMIN SAID HE WANTED TK MARRY HERRRR OH MY HEART like 😭 crying omg!! Munch Armin Agenda >>>>

Sorry if this seems annoying 😭 i am currently preparing for neet & it's such a headache, like i can barely manage my schoolwork + my neet preparations 😭😭

adding both the asks here because the context was quite similar. i've said this before that you need to find and maintain your own discipline and can't follow someone else's schedule, but i hope my sched can help you navigate around ><

11th & 12th SCHEDULE

the remarkable thing about my senior high was covid ! i never attended a single offline class in those two years— only practicals and exams. that gave me a lot of time to focus on competitive exams, even though i lowkey fucked up my 11th, i was on track the next year.

school work wasn't an issue with online classes. i barely attended those and mostly focused on my coaching institute ! i went to a local coaching, although very reputed, and bought allen's distance learning course for questions. unfortunately, i wasn't able to appear for neet the very year i passed 12th due to a minor surgery. so i took a year to prepare for neet and my schedule was as follows :

6 : 00 am - 7 : 00 am — waking up, going for a walk, exercising, whatever morning routine i had went there. i kept it relatively short because i wanted to put as many hours as possible in studies.

7 : 30 am - 10 : 00 am or 12 : 00 noon — studies ! i usually had my breakfast during that thirty minutes gap between first and second slot. i not, i sat down to study early and got up for breakfast around eight or nine.

12 : 00 noon - 2 : 00 pm — break yayaya >< i watched tv, used socmed and had lunch during this time. again, i wouldn't take this break if i woke up late or got some work that i wasn't able to finish. i left for classes at / around two ^_^

2 : 30 pm - 8 : 30 pm — my classes ! i joined allen last year since it's fifteen minutes to where i live and i needed some sort of guidance to proceed. after my classes, i got back home by nine, sometimes a bit late if i stayed back to discuss a few things with the teachers.

9 : 00 pm - 10 : 00 pm — dinner and rest after classes. tv, phone, or just helping mum in the kitchen if the day was good lmfao. i hate being in the kitchen :/

10 : 15 pm onwards — studies again :> fifteen minutes break to sort get my stuff and all. besides, my dad asks for every update of my day and what i have planned to study the next day etc etc. if my schedule was relaxed, i'd sleep by twelve or twelve thirty but as neet approached, i slept by two and woke up at around eight lmfao TT good thing was, i didn't have classes after february so i followed the same routine except, i started studying at nine after breakfast, till one, got up for lunch, then studies from two to six sometimes seven, an hour break for dinner ( had early dinner during that time ) then studied from either to two at night.

to the anon to asked how i write fics during classes : i had wednesdays off / tests so i used that one day to relax. i usually wrote on wednesdays, sometimes on other days when work load is way less and i mostly queued by posts since i had pre-written ones from when i had time. sometimes, when i finished by studies before 1 am, i took 30 mins to write if i felt like it. besides, my uni was well ... it wasn't my focus. i took biotech and kept it on the side incase i can't do med. lectures were online, no one demanded full attendance, i got notes from friends and only gave tests. my focus were these pre-med classes i attended, and the sched is what i mentioned above.

also, my study hours are higher during classes. i barely have time to write, so i'm not active every single day as you might have noticed before may this year. the time table i mentioned above is an example of timeslots and how i used to manage. 10 hrs avg is now, give and take one or two here and there. also, i never stick to one schedule. i might have exams again this month and i might just dip completely. if not, i won't have to study at all and i might just stay on blr all day.

for neet : juggling between school and coaching can be hard but i don't think i can give appropriate advice since i never had to experience that. if you're in 11th, focus more on coaching ( because 11th science is more difficult imo, and more fundamental when it comes to neet ) and if you're in 12th focus more on school because of boards. the best thing to do is finish chapters ahead of time. say you're learning mechanics in school and thermodynamics in coaching. try to finish thermodynamics from school textbooks as well so you won't have issues when they teach it in school and can focus on what they're teaching in coaching. utilize your breaks and holidays to finish easy chapters, especially biology as a whole and organic and inorganic chem since there's nothing to do except remembering stuff.

this is so long TT i'm sorry and i hope this is helpful even though it's lowkey all over the place .. i'm not as organised as it seems and my sched varies a lot depending upon the day, if i have to go out, tests, etc etc.

Favorite thing about them: His loyalty and love! I love characters who care about people fiercely 🥰

Least favorite thing about them: The unwillingness to kill Thawne 💀 listen, I have no problem with heroes who have a “no killing” code, but that’s because those heroes are usually kids (Peter Parker in the MCU) or they know that doing it would send them on a dark path (Bruce Wayne, and he’s proven right on a few occasions). But Barry is 32 at this point, and he was 25 when the show started, and NEVER in 7 years has he even TRIED to kill Thawne! Even after everything! Even given COUNTLESS chances! He didn’t even kill Thawne in S1, Eddie did! It’s not like killing Thawne is some kind of moral ambiguity at this point anyway 💀 and Barry is apparently faster than him now!

Random headcanon: Iris’s first fight was in defense of Barry, and it was before she even really knew how to fight (she was in the early stages of learning). Someone was making fun of Barry, calling him a crybaby orphan, and Iris punched the kid in the jaw. She still isn’t sure if it was the force of her punch, or the shock of her punching him, that knocked him over, but she remembers the look Barry gave her. Full of love, admiration...and it made Iris feel some type of way that she couldn’t name. It was a crush, but she didn’t have the words for it then, nor the willingness to acknowledge feeling that way about her best friend. And this took place during the time between Nora’s death and Joe taking Barry in.

Unpopular opinion: Iris’s “we are the Flash” line isn’t terrible, actually (see the “favorite line” section for Barry for details). Also, y’all calling Iris a bad mom for what she did to Nora...first of all, metas were ILLEGAL and EXPERIMENTED ON in 2049, so Iris was just protecting her daughter from that. Second of all, she was a SINGLE MOTHER WHO NEVER PLANNED TO RAISE HER SPEEDSTER CHILD ALONE

Favorite thing about them: At times, she can be mature, and she clearly loves her family. In S7, she acts her age, which I like! Maybe it just took having a sibling 😂

Least favorite thing about them: Ohh boy. Well first there’s the fact that she’s almost 30 in S5 but acts like a teen. Then there’s the fact that she keeps working with Thawne EVEN AFTEE KNOWING THAT HE KILLED HER GRANDMA! And THEN there’s her childish anger at Iris–which she does get over, but after way too long! And refusing to even consider Iris’s side!

Random headcanon: Nora and Iris used to be pretty close before Crisis! They used to watch Food Network together and go shopping together and such. But after Barry disappeared, Iris had to kinda take on the role of both parents, and she wasn’t able to balance that super well along with her reporter job (understandably, being a single mom is HARD AF). Nora never stopped hoping that Iris would find/make the time to have fun with Nora like she used to. Unfortunately, Nora was ready to go off to college before Iris was able to make the time (which, again, isn’t Iris’s fault!! Single parenting AND working is HARD)

Unpopular opinion: Nora isn’t a bad character, she was just poorly written. I would’ve liked to see her written as an actual 28-year-old, or for her to be 18 on the show (which is the route I take in anything I write about her).

Six months later.

~

Bryce strutted out of his patient’s room with a wide grin on his face---a grin which only widened when he saw Darcy walking towards him, her own face lit up with a smile. She looked good in her blue scrubs. She looked good in anything.

“Missed me?” he asked with a slight smirk, tugging her close by the waist. “Because I definitely missed you.”

“Did you?” she chuckled. “We saw each other this morning.” She tugged lightly on the lapels of his coat to deliver a quick peck to the lips. “But I missed you, too.”

She lowered off of her tiptoes, and he chased her lips down, capturing them in a few more kisses before a creaky voice in the distance laughed, “Get me a prescription for that.”

Her cheeks turned pink. “Maybe we should take this to...the supply closet?” She jerked her head in the direction of a door nearby. “Do you have a minute?”

"For you? Always.”

He held the door open for her, darted inside after, and pulled her against him with a wolfish grin. “Anything on your schedule before Mrs. Martinez’s shindig in the caf?”

“No,” she answered with a grin of her own.

"That gives us plenty of time to celebrate,” he said, before bending down for another kiss. “Heterotopic heart transplant,” he added, in answer to the somewhat confused look on her face. “Zimmerman picked me to assist.”

She let out something that sounded like a relieved sigh. “Two hearts in one chest. That’s---”

“---incredibly sexy, right?”

“I was going to say impressive,” said Darcy. “But you’re not wrong. Beats diagnosing my psychic patient with super-smell.”

“You’re incredible. But...you��re gonna have to explain that one to me.”

“Later,” she whispered, looping her arms around his neck.

He kissed her again, and again, and again, like he’d never be able to get enough. And he never could. It was rare for them to be able to snag a free moment together, what with their similar workaholic tendencies and her new position on the diagnostic team. 

Not to mention the creeping dread in the back of his mind, that, provided all went well on her upcoming boards (and it would), she could be leaving in a year. It turned his kisses urgent, which she reciprocated with a similar hunger.

Darcy pulled back, breathing heavy. "Wait, I actually wanted to talk to you.”

He shifted to plant kisses along her neck, freeing her mouth for talking. “Go ahead,” he murmured against her hammering pulse.

She gently eased his face away. "You're so distracting.”

"I'm distracting? That's like you calling your reflection gorgeous, gorgeous. But I can keep my hands and lips to myself.” He released her waist and leaned back against the door. “What's up?"

She didn’t say anything for a moment, tapping her fingers against her leg in a nervous rhythm. Starting fresh as an internal medicine resident had triggered many of the same insecurities that he’d seen hints of when they were competing as surgeons. The only difference now was that she shared them, and he was happy to remind her that she was amazing every time. 

Bryce was halfway through composing a pep talk when she finally stilled her hands, took a deep breath, and looked at him. Uncertainty swam in her blue eyes.

Suddenly, he was nervous, too. Maybe this wasn’t a pep talk situation. In the last six months, they’d settled into some kind of undefined something that involved kissing and sleeping together and occasional dates and vulnerability and honesty and the most intense feelings he’d ever felt for another person. He didn’t know which of them was more afraid of committment---a competition they could have if they were willing to have that conversation---but he was happy not to put a label on it. And he’d assumed that she was just as happy. But maybe she wanted a label (which didn’t terrify him as much as he expected it to), or more, or---

"Harper cleared me for surgery,” she said.

That was...not what he’d been expecting. "Wait, what?"

"And Naveen said that, if I want, I can switch back to the surgical track,” she continued, beginning to pace. “I'd have to work like crazy to catch up on my hours, and I don’t know about the diagnostics team, or if there’s going to be another competition, and Jackie would probably---"

When it finally sunk in, his hands caught her by the waist, and he cut her off with a kiss. Darcy’s manual strength and control had gradually come back over the last six months, but she hadn’t expressed any interest in returning to surgery in nearly as long. There was no envy in her eyes when he talked surgery. She seemed genuinely happier as an internal medicine resident.

(Of course, Bryce was genuinely happier, too, and it had nothing to do with surgery. He felt assured in a way that had never felt completely sincere before. He felt free.)

“I didn’t know you were trying to get cleared for surgery,” he said when he managed to drag his lips away from hers. “That’s amazing, Darcy.”

“I...don’t know if I should switch back,” she said softly. “If that’s what I want. I like diagnostics."

"You like surgery, too," he pointed out.

"I liked surgery. But I love you more.” She’d never said that before, and maybe she hadn’t intended to, judging by the quick way she continue, “And I don't want to fuck this up by getting competitive and stealing all your surgeries, so..."

He felt himself grinning impossibly wide, and he tugged her closer. “I’m sorry, I didn’t catch all of that.” 

She grinned back and raised her (Harper-Emery-approved) hands to cup his face. “I said, I love you. So I’d maybe feel a little bad about stealing all of your surgeries.”

That I love you was quickly becoming his favorite sound in the world. “I love you, too,” he said. “You’ll shine either way, Darcy, and nothing makes me happier. Don’t give up surgery for me, or for us. But for the record, I won’t feel bad about stealing all of your surgeries.”

He kissed her again, swallowing her rebuttal and her sweet laugh and the love that he didn’t know he’d ever have.

Together, Darcy and Bryce walked Mrs. Martinez to her cab from her party in the cafeteria, sending her off with a few hugs and a map from the gift shop. Her dreams of traveling the world wouldn’t have to wait for another life after all.

It had been a team effort to uncover the Rhodes cure from Panacea Labs and to get approval to administer the drug (helped in no small part by Aurora bringing the issue to her aunt, who was able to apply just enough pressure to Panacea and Declan Nash to get approval). And Darcy never had a team before Bryce and the internal med residents.

"You two are cute together,” said Mrs. Martinez with a warm smile, settling into the backseat of the taxi. “Don't ruin it."

Darcy couldn’t exactly promise that. It had started ruined, and she’d made it worse time and time again. There was no ignoring the ways that they had hurt each other in the past. But the damage wasn’t impervious to the careful repair that they had applied. And with confidence that she’d never felt before, in any area of her life, Darcy could say that it would hold, regardless of what she chose to do with her hands now.

“Cuter than Danny and Sienna, right?” she said instead.

Mrs. Martinez gave a noncommittal laugh as she closed the car door behind her.

“We’re definitely cuter than Danny and Sienna,” confirmed Bryce. “And better at mini-golf, and dancing, and...”

Perhaps they’d had a few friendly-turned-less-friendly competitions with Danny and Sienna at group hangouts, with the unspoken goal of being crowned the best couple. Luckily, Danny and Sienna didn’t seem to find it too annoying, although they did mention on occasion that to be the best couple, Bryce and Darcy had to admit that they were a couple. 

Maybe they were now. Maybe they had been for a while. She didn’t know. She loved him more than she’d ever tried to hate him, and he loved her, too, and that feeling was better than any label they could possibly put on it. Better than winning. Better than her life might have been if her past had been different.

(But she wouldn’t mind officially being his girlfriend, or partner, or significant something or other.)

Mrs. Martinez waved as the cab drove away, Bryce still listing their many wins over Danny and Sienna. Until Darcy, partially because she was already convinced that they were the best, and partially as payback for the two interruptions earlier, and partially because he looked too good not to, silenced him with a kiss.
