Hui caught my attention as he sang his part for VERY GOOD in ROAD TO KINGDOM and that got me curious about Pentagon. Which video can I get to know about Pentagon?

Hi!!! So, if you haven’t already, I’d recommend watching their music videos - they have a really big range of genres in their music, so even if there are one or two songs you don’t like as much at first, I’m sure you’ll find many others that appeal to you. My go-to music videos personally are Daisy, Runaway, Cosmo, Naughty Boy, Dr. BeBe, Sha La La, Violet, Basquiat, Can You Feel It, Like This, and Shine, but there are even more (here’s the official playlist with all their MVs).

Here are a couple guides I think are really good (A Guide To Pentagon || November 2020 Edition!) (a guide to pentagon (2020 version) (how to tell pentagon members apart) - note: one of the guides states that Hui enlisted on December 3 2020, but his enlistment has been delayed and as of now (January 2021) we still don’t know when he plans to enlist. Some YouTube channels that post Pentagon content I enjoy are 꿀잼타곤 (highly recommended!), kpopcoffeebeans, Kintagon, and MintyUniverse.

If you want official content, they’ve got several series: Pentory (ongoing, mostly behind-the-scenes of music videos, stages, etc.), Variety Lab (ongoing, them doing fun stuff), What Should I Do Today? (ongoing, lives that can be up to a couple hours long; many aren’t subbed though), Prism Log (filmed during their 2019 PRISM World Tour), and JUST DO IT YO! (lives, vlogs, ASMR, and some other stuff). There’s also an official playlist of assorted other stuff, which has variety show appearances, their Jack Pod podcast series, and more!

I'll plug @soft-pentagon‘s “Pentagon videos to make you happier” post here as well, since it’s got some really fun videos that you can also use to get to know them a little better.

first time i heard of them: i don't remember, i think i stumbled across shine and then moved to humph and got hooked!

when i became a fan: sometime last year! maybe last summer??

favorite (and least favorite) title track: it's probably a tie between naughty boy and do or not! even though i love daisy and humph so much

So I'm going out on a limb and assuming that Yuto is your bias. But is "Cosmo" your favorite track? What B-sides do you like? How long ago did you get into Pentagon, and what made you a fan?

I don’t know how people keep figuring out that I love Yuto 🤨 haha, but he’s my ult bias! You didn’t ask, but just to put it out there Wooseok and Yanan are also biases, and I consider Jinho and Hui bias wreckers. And Shinwon? That man stays jumping through my bias list. And of course I love everyone else, too! The longer I stan the more I find out about everyone and it gets hard sometimes to not just say they’re all my bias ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Before Pentagon I listened to strictly girls groups only, but then my friend showed me Triple H (performances of both title tracks) and as soon as I heard Hui’s voice I fell in love with it. So when she told me that he’s part of another group I went to go look for Pentagon. However I believe this was all happening during Dr. Bebe era??? I’m not too sure but that seems about right.

What made me a fan? Hard to say, if I’m being honest. Al I remember is the first song I ever heard from them I hated, haha.

I listened to Humph (I’m fine with the song now and it’s one of my favorite photo shoots) and to me the song was awful (in terms of music production and vocal performance??? I don’t know what past me was thinking).

But because I knew Hui I decided to listen to another song and that’s how I found the BOP THAT NAUGHTY BOY, WOOT WOOT!!! As soon as I heard that song I knew I wanted more and more like that Twice song. From that point I heard Shine, Sha La La, and Critical Beauty as well. So I guess I got into them for the music. Out of the songs I heard their music was all different and I liked the 4/5 songs that I would come to repeatedly watch afterwards. There was also that added factor of me being in love with Hui’s voice. From the songs I heard I also fell in love with Yanan, Yuto, and Wooseok’s voices. When I heard Can You Feel It during the 2020 summer, that’s when I decided it was time to stan 🤠 (one of my favorite title tracks, it was just that good).

hi, i was wondering how do you get into pentagon? i want to start stanning them but i don’t know where to start.

ah so exciting, welcome!! the way I get into any new group is the same - learning the music and learning the members

music - the easiest way to do this is to watch all their music videos (you can look up pentagon’s discography on wikipedia to go in order), if you have more time you can listen through their albums to find b-sides that you like too. obviously this is a generalization but I divide their releases into light (shine, naughty boy, humph, critical beauty, pretty pretty, violet) versus dark (dr. bebe, sha la la, like this, runaway, can you feel it, gorilla), even within those categories there’s a lot of variety. I also like watching the first stage for each release to see what the concept/performance is like. dance practices are really eye-opening to see their dance skill and the full choreography, and they’re always really fun during m2 relay dances!

members - pentagon has soo much vlive/variety content and they’re such fun people that once you get started this should get much easier :D these were my fave videos when I got into pentagon ~ 2 years ago:

Pentagon Title Track Watch Through

When I want to get into a group I like to go through and watch all their mvs in chronological order and then check out their full discography in chronological order. Here are my thoughts and reactions to the mvs

Gorilla (8/10)

I was skeptical when it started with a sax riff (it has been over used since Worth It). But it’s done well and doesn’t get annoying like I expected. The vocals are good and I like all of the wrappers. The dance is fun and the simile metaphor of the song made me smile. And their warehouse scenes were well staged so it didn’t seem boring. Also edawn looks like A CHILD!

Can You Feel It (9/10)

This is what a comeback should be this feels like a step up on every level. The set, outfits, even the production feels smoother and more sophisticated. When I saw the uniforms I thought marching band so I was so psyched that that was what they were going for. (After re-listening I realize there were even marching snares in the buildup!) The pentagon arch is clever. Loving the hair in this too. edawn looking like an average kpop boy is still weird.

Pretty Pretty (7.5/10)

OMG I’ve seen this but somehow forgot/didn’t realize? this was Pentagon(even though their name is all over the video) I might have watched it bc chungha?? The video is super cute. The song is also bright and happy. No complaints.

Critical Beauty (10/10)

THE USE OF THIS SAMPLE IS SO AMAZING I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH. The dance is so good too and I love the twin concept the members do. This is the edawn I recognize.

Like This (10/10)

So this song had a short film released before it. That’s how you know it’s serious when they gotta make preface with backstory. So we going sad dark Pentagon for the first time. I think they reused one of these locations in shine? Okay wow this song is a journey the structure feels very unique and I think that’s because each of the rap sections sound so different and the transition into the chorus is a little different everytime. So I wrote down the vibe I got from each section (sad, moody, soaring, defiant, conceding, persist) and when I looked at the lyrics it matched sooooo well! They are able to convey the message just through the sound of the voices A.M.AZING. 

Runaway (9.5/10)

Oh wait! I’ve heard this before quite a bit and I’ve even watched the video once. This song also feels a little sad but heavier? Makes sense that demo 1 and demo 2 have connected sounds. WOOSEOK’S HAIR. and Hongseok’s. all the hair actually. I like the grungier look and sound.

Violet (8.5/10)

not a title but it has a video I’m a fool I thought this would be cute but it was sad. It’s on the same album as runaway I should have realized. Somehow the trap beat doesn’t subtract from the emotion? And the way it cuts out at the end?? it’s like being left hanging after the breakup

Shine (9/10)

The song we all know. It’s really good.

Naughty Boy (10/10)

Maybe controvesal but, I like this even more than Shine? It makes me very happy. I love to dance and scream along with it, esp the repeated backround 리 in 청개구리.

Cosmos (8/10)

Oh longboard--oh wait suits. OOOO I already love the guitar and the dance.The switch up from the first chorus to the second verse is so good. Lol the ring is a hexagon. That space effect is super cool.
