*dated september 2023*
i am here to post more things individual to me! this time, it's my top 25 video games. i am honestly not remotely content with this list and will update it around september of this year, and make it a tradition going forward. i never realized how hard it actually is to put this out on a chart/list. i always knew what i held dearly to my heart, but god when it came down to it, i had to REALLY think. imagining how this list will look by the end of this year is currently challenging. this chart is in no order besides grouping series. certain games will ALWAYS be on this list, most definitely the red dead series, and grand theft auto series. those are masterpieces, or damn near. red dead redemption ii is 100% the best game i've ever touched. the first redemption game i still highly regard to be one to stand the test of time. i have a fondness for fallout, there are many things to love, and things to not love, and that's all i'll say there for now. grand theft auto iv has one of the best stories i've played, and it's so played out but the VIBE of that game, the darkness, grittiness, it's great. san andreas is one of my childhood games, i owned so many copies because i was a stupid child. moving onto guitar hero, i still remember my first experience with it at my sister's, i remember getting my first copy of the game from fred's of all places. i mainly play clone hero nowadays, and am mostly average. i play expert, still have never got past that ttfaf intro. i got into wwe pretty early on in my life like most of these games, being able to watch the show weekly and hop in the games after school was special. cozy survival crafting is definitely one of my favorite things ever, and it's funny to call terraria cozy but it is to me LOL. i will never EVER understand terraria hate, how can you hate something so good? i have fallen out of love with minecraft over the years to the (in my opinion) underwhelming updates and odd direction the game has taken. with that however, the new auto-crafter and trial chambers look so sick. i want to say i got into stardew valley in 2018 and have loved it ever since, still haven't gotten through the beginning of ginger island though, maybe someday. ever since extremely late 2017 or early 2018, my main game has been fortnite: battle royale. at one point, i wanted to go pro and make a living streaming, but sadly i am NOT built for that. i've always loved zombies, first experience was probably like season 2-3 twd, and been hooked ever since. project zomboid was such an insane experience in february of last year. such an eye-opener. easily the best zombie game ever made. 7 days to die is also a great game, the impending doom you feel every week is fun and refreshing from what i normally play while still have that survival crafting i love. i grew up on tony hawk games and wasn't sure which ones to put but these were the standouts, and i didn't want to load the list up with a ton from one series. i remember spending all my savings as a kid on saints row: the third and i still wonder if that was a good decision or not. i have played tons of call of duty in my day, although i stopped at ghosts, and have dabbled in and out ever since. black ops is easily my favorite, the campaign, and multiplayer, agh. zombies even. modern warfare 2 is a classic and one i cannot ignore. ghost looks cool. i have played HELLA sims 3 in my lifetime, yes i have played the sims 4 and i can confidently say the sims 3 clears with ease. i dumped crazy hours into the console ports and the pc as well. around this final stretch of the list is where i really struggled so i went for nostalgia with atv off-road fury 2. that series and mx vs atv were definitely a blast to 10 and below me, and might even be today. i'm not quite sure. if anyone actually finishes this, i am sorry, for i am the rambler.

can you give a rundown on the tunashark lore, im new to their kinda possible relationship stuff <3
alright! I will say I am not the best archiver for their lore because I have only joined on the bandwagon 3-4 months ago due to dream thirdwheeling their date nights and I realized "Oh?? what's going on Here??" and kept watching I've put all of the things Ive noted under a readmore forewarning its a LOT also this link has a lot of cute tunashark moments condensed
I am not quiet certain how they started exactly but I know the most notable thing in their history of spending time together is their stardew save, they've been playing stardew since around the start of this year end of last year? and this vod
youtube
has a lot of their early relationship condensed, they are friendly, bickery and cute with each other
and then somewhere a long the way of spending 8 hours a day with each other they realllyyy started to be cute and simpy - they really are a reality check for what flirting looks like and how DNF are doing the same exact thing haha
my conversion date was a stream on june 16th that was an mcc?? practice stream I THINK?? where foolish was streaming and hanging out with Tina (of course) and dream joined so of course I hope on stream to listen to dream but dream doesn't say a SINGLY word, awesame and punz were there too but they got thirdwheeled SO hard that they started copium flirting with each other only for tunashark to just crush them
Tina does this thing like dream where she has no filter and just word vomits her thoughts and she went on like 2 separate rants on how amazing and great foolish is (you'll notice this is a constant thing with them btw) and while Tina does tend to do that with her friends....she's never went on about how dry their lips are right afterwards
I remember punz vividly going "uhuh...foolish's dry lips..." at the end of her rant about how awesome foolish is and how dry his lips are
punz btw only joined to get awesam to play a game with him but they stuck around to watch their mating dance, sam tried to make a bit about how punz invited him to a restaurant date so when is their date (the game they were supposed to play) and Tina literally went off on him like "YOU CRASH OUR TIME AT THE RESTAURANT AND YOURE COMPLAINING"
😭😭😭😭
Tina also had another moment in that same stream where she said "I want to work out" and then there was a pause and she said "...foolish works out" SHE IS SO DOWN BAD YOU GUYS
and foolish in all of this? he is LOVING it he is so quiet when it happens because I think he doesn't know what to do but he has the BIGGEST grin on his face
They always stare at each others faces btw which is great they try to hide it of course but when one of them has cam on you can tell when they are staring at each other and here is this cute part of the vod as proof 3:22:0 - 3:24:00
youtube
basically in this clip foolish was going to end if he didn't find anything to do, and he was trying to think of things to do because he didn't want to end the stream, he asks Tina if she wants to play stardew but she doesn't answer him presumably because she is afk - he starts pouting and tells everyone in vc to just ignore Tina when she comes back , Tina comes back and is mildly confused for like 3 seconds before she IMMEDIATELY points out that foolish is grinning and how he is a bad actor and he just CRUMBLS in the cutest way possible
Tumblr media
just adding more moments that showcase just how much time they spend together, they genuinely are like dream and George with the 10 hour phone calls except we get to see it happening
in the stream this clip is from they cant decide on a game to play and several times Tina thinks about leaving the stream, that's how this conversation even comes up
but then she comes up with a game she wants to play and is very excited to play with friends and its the garfield themed mariokart ripoff with TERRIBLE controls
and the whole chat was going "indulge her pls" "play tina's game" and he is so soft and cute and does exactly that

Repost time! This one was based off the prompt: “Write a short involving a group of at least 3 separate parties communicating with one another via text or phone call.”
Title: Addicts Anonymous
Word Count: 1,006
Summary: Dr. Kim Zhang, MD, a psychiatrist based in Zuzu City, alongside her personalized appointments, also hosts anonymous chatrooms for addressing her clients’ and guests’ mental health and leading them to help each other improve. This evening’s session is specifically for addicts seeking to wane from their addictions from the Stardew Valley area.
~
Anonymous Addiction Recovery Group - Stardew Valley Area
Wednesdays at 6:30 PM
DoctorKimZhangMD: Welcome to today’s Anonymous Addiction Recovery chatroom. Thank you all for coming!
3SpicyChickens: youre welcome
ThankTehBusDriver: whatever
DoctorKimZhangMD: It’s good to see you two back again!
DoctorKimZhangMD: I see we have a new guest with us today. Welcome ObsidianVoid420!
ObsidianVoid420: hey
DoctorKimZhangMD: In these chatrooms, we talk with each member of the group one by one. We talk about how long you’ve been dealing with the addiction (substance disclosure not necessary), what you have done to fight the addiction, and then suggest tips and ideas on how to cope.
DoctorKimZhangMD: 3SpicyChickens, would you go first today please?
3SpicyChickens: sure
3SpicyChickens: since college, I sometimes drank, like in parties or with friends
3SpicyChickens: it started being a problem about five years ago, but I didnt accept that it was until a few months ago
3SpicyChickens: since the incident, ive been trying to cut down. I still go to the bar, but I go home for a couple hours first. I started drinking only one beer each night rather than three or more
3SpicyChickens: I tried to go without the one beer like dr zhang suggested last week, but its hard. I make it a couple hours, but during the last hour the bar is open, I end up buying one
ObsidianVoid420: have you tried choosing a s***ier beer?
DoctorKimZhangMD: ObsidianVoid420, please refrain from swearing.
DoctorKimZhangMD: But ObsidianVoid420 has a good point with choosing a different drink. May I suggest water?
ThankTehBusDriver: water is so boring
ThankTehBusDriver: wat about sparkling cider?
DoctorKimZhangMD: With or without alcohol, BusDriver?
ThankTehBusDriver: …
3SpicyChickens: sparkling water might work
DoctorKimZhangMD: Good idea! Let us know next week how well the sparkling water works 3SpicyChickens.
DoctorKimZhangMD: ThankTehBusDriver, your turn.
ThankTehBusDriver: fine.
ThankTehBusDriver: I only joined this group a couple weeks ago cuz my kid asked me to
ThankTehBusDriver: I dunno what her problem is
ThankTehBusDriver: since my bus got fixed, I work now. if anything, I feel more justified in spendin my hard-earned wages on beer.
ThankTehBusDriver: we can bettr afford it now
DoctorKimZhangMD: So have you or have you not cut down since last week, BusDriver?
ThankTehBusDriver: …
ThankTehBusDriver: no
DoctorKimZhangMD: Have you considered that your kid may be trying to look out for you?
ThankTehBusDriver: …
DoctorKimZhangMD: Studies show that driving while hungover can be just as dangerous as driving drunk, even after the alcohol has left the body.
DoctorKimZhangMD: Your child may want you to be safe at work, and spend positive time with you after.
3SpicyChickens: doc’s right. my goddaughter said I seem happier when im not drinkin much.
3SpicyChickens: and its easier to connect with her when im sober. Im not complaining about headaches as often
3SpicyChickens: i cant always make the best choice for myself, but I can do it for her
3SpicyChickens: i want to be the godfather she believes me to be
DoctorKimZhangMD: Thank you, 3SpicyChickens. I can see that your goddaughter means a lot to you.
DoctorKimZhangMD: BusDriver, will you talk with your daughter before our next meeting?
DoctorKimZhangMD: Talk about her interests, your hobbies beyond drinking? Favorite movies, shows, games? Perhaps you can find an activity you two can enjoy together after work.
ThankTehBusDriver: …
ThankTehBusDriver: ill think about it
DoctorKimZhangMD: Thank you, BusDriver.
3SpicyChickens: heh
ObsidianVoid420: lol
DoctorKimZhangMD: Jokes aside, ObsidianVoid420 are you willing to share your experiences today?
ObsidianVoid420: idk
ObsidianVoid420: i came here to see if this group can help me with smoking
ObsidianVoid420: i hadnt realized it got so bad until i went through a full pack in a day
DoctorKimZhangMD: In many cases, people are driven to addiction because it serves as an escape. 3SpicyChickens, ThankTehBusDriver, would you share what you each were trying to escape?
3SpicyChickens: emptiness. I felt like life was never going to get better again, and didnt know how to enjoy the present
ThankTehBusDriver: im still angry at my ex
ThankTehBusDriver: its been 20 year
ThankTehBusDriver: drinking lets me forgit that b******
DoctorKimZhangMD: ThankTehBusDriver, please do not swear.
ThankTehBusDriver: B****** DONT COUNT AS A SWEAR!!
DoctorKimZhangMD: ObsidianVoid420, do you know why you smoke? What emotions you feel and what leads you to feel that way? You don’t have to share why if you don’t want to.
ObsidianVoid420: yeah i have an idea
ObsidianVoid420: i just feel angry and annoyed all the time
ObsidianVoid420: but i dont know how else to calm the nerves but by smoking
ObsidianVoid420: nothing else works
DoctorKimZhangMD: It sounds to me like there is something to either confront or accept. If it’s something that cannot change, it seems you have not fully accepted it yet. And if it’s something that could change, you are unsure if it will, even if you try. So you escape instead.
ObsidianVoid420: …
ObsidianVoid420: d***, you nailed it
ObsidianVoid420: sorry
ObsidianVoid420: er… what do i do now?
3SpicyChickens: you try.
3SpicyChickens: try something. start small if youre not comfortable with big yet
3SpicyChickens: and be patient. sometimes results come slowly
DoctorKimZhangMD: Exactly what 3SpicyChickens said, ObsidianVoid420.
DoctorKimZhangMD: It’s okay if no big changes happen right away. Like water flowing over a rock, it will take years for the rock to become smooth.
ObsidianVoid420: like how you can make a lot of changes to programming code, but little to no results will show until the last change is complete
ThankTehBusDriver: …yeah, sure
DoctorKimZhangMD: Actually, that’s a very good way to look at it! Would you let us know what change in your metaphorical program’s code you make by next week?
ObsidianVoid420: …er …sure
ObsidianVoid420: ok
ObsidianVoid420: if im back next week. i might be busy with work
DoctorKimZhangMD: Whenever you can make it, I’m here for you.
3SpicyChickens: I’ll probs be here too
ThankTehBusDriver: no promses
ObsidianVoid420: thanks
DoctorKimZhangMD: Alright, and that concludes our meeting for today!
ThankTehBusDriver has left the chatroom.
DoctorKimZhangMD: Remember your assignments!
DoctorKimZhangMD: Thank you everyone for joining today, and I hope to see you next week!
3SpicyChickens: yw
ObsidianVoid420 has left the chatroom.
3SpicyChickens has left the chatroom.
DoctorKimZhangMD has closed the chatroom.

I Like Video Games
I really like video games, not very surprising considering my age, even if anyone can play games regardless of their age.
What games do I like you didn't ask? I'll tell you!
My favourite game of all time is The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Basically everything about this game is perfection, I can't even say much more than that. Afterbirth was a stellar follow-up, even if I have my own problems with Afterbirth+. Repentence still looks really cool though.
Other than that, I'm a huge fighting game fan. My actual skill aside, my favourite fighting games include Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, Ultra Street Fighter IV, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, Blazblue Central Fiction, and DragonBall FighterZ. I play a lot more, but these immediately spring to mind.
I'm also a big Nintendo fan, have been for my whole life. I like most of the well-known stuff, but my favourite Nintendo franchise is actually Pikmin. I also have a special fondness for the Mario Maker games.
More recently, I've started playing the Danganronpa games (currently starting V3), the Hotline Miami games, DOOM 2016 and a few others.
Old simulation games are somewhat of a passion of mine, hence my borderline STAN OBSESSION with Zoo Tycoon 2 and its expansions, and who could forget Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. A newer simulation gem is Stardew Valley, which I like to play on the rare ocassion that I feel stressed.
I love survival games as well, more specifically Minecraft and Don't Starve. They don't make enough great ones, in my opinion.
What systems do I play these games on? My main systems are a Nintendo Switch and a PS4, but I also have a crummy laptop that I use for the aforementioned old sim games, Team Fortress 2 and Five Nights a-
I FORGOT TO TALK ABOUT FNAF
My vote for the most underappreciated franchise, I adore the Five Nights at Freddy's games (all, uh, 8 of them...). They're gems in the rough and have been somewhat left in the dust due to the common conception of a "toxic" or "cringe" fanbase. First of all, grow up you cringe-culture baby, and secondly, I find it petty how the fandom surrounding something can so permanently damage its reputation. The games aren't even scary when you've played them for as long as I have, they're just genuinely fun and engaging experiences.
That about sums it up. I've played and still play mountains more, obviously, but I don't want my friend Nat to spend an hour and a half scrolling down to get past this post on her feed.
Stay Optimistic,
See ya.

Im excited theres gonna be new steven universe soon!
Also the only game ive been playing recently is stardew valley lmao but I’m probably going to get back into Dragon Age when my semester is over. Somehow i cant play those games without hyperfocusing and spending like 7 hours at a time in front of the computer...

15 Best SNES RPGs Ever Made
https://ift.tt/3gFkLz0
SNES games might not be much to look at now, but in many ways, they were a massive improvement over any console games that came before. SNES developers could create massive worlds with detailed sprites that actually looked like what they were intended to represent. New advances in technology also meant that games could take their first real steps toward becoming the kinds of cinematic experiences we arguably take for granted today. And while 4 MB wasn’t even a ton of storage even space back then, it was still more than enough to fit an impressive script for a 40-hour story.
In short, the SNES was almost perfectly set up to be the home for RPGs. While the console RPG scene was still finding its footing at the time of the Super Nintendo’s release, many developers were more than willing to dip their toes into the genre to see what kind of experiences they could craft. That combination of experimentation and all-time great creative voices eventually resulted in some of the most beloved role-playing games ever made.
As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the SNES in North America, now feels like a great time to look back at 15 of the best RPGs on the SNES.
15. Shadowrun
In the early 1990s, console RPGs were synonymous with turn-based combat and medieval settings full of knights, sorcerers, and dragons. So, no one really knew what to make of a cyberpunk game with real-time combat set in a dystopian Seattle. However, those who stuck with Shadowrun found one of the best and grittiest stories of the 16-bit era, as well as some surprisingly innovative conversation and hacking systems.
Shadowrun was truly ahead of its time in almost every way. While it didn’t get that much attention when it was released, games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Ascent proudly carry on its legacy to this day. Even the Shadowrun franchise itself finally got its due with a trilogy of successful PC RPGs released over the last decade.
14. Soul Blazer
Even today, Soul Blazer is a title that not many gamers have heard of. Admittedly, it’s a little rough around the edges. Arriving early in the lifecycle of the SNES, the graphics and music aren’t quite up to par with the best games of its era, but the gameplay makes it a worthy addition to this list. Taking some inspiration from Actraiser, another beloved Quintet game, your goal in this action RPG is to clear out various lairs, rescue various souls (that could take the form of plants, animals, or other humans), and free the land from the evil Deathtoll.
Quintet would go on to hone Soul Blazer‘s best ideas in several other games (including Terranigma, another fantastic action RPG that sadly never made its way to North America). Unfortunately, Quintet shut down in the mid-2000s, and it’s unclear who exactly owns the rights to these games at this point. That sadly makes any official re-releases of these often-overlooked gems unlikely.
13. The 7th Saga
The 7th Saga is an excellent example of a game that had a lot of great ideas that never quite came together. Probably the best thing about the game is the playable characters. You have seven to choose from at the start (including a robot and an alien), and you eventually meet six other characters that you can either fight or recruit. It was also one of the first RPGs that didn’t include completely random combat. Enemies could actually be avoided through an innovative “radar” system.
Unfortunately, The 7th Saga is also unforgivingly difficult, with some enemies always surpassing your stats no matter how much you level up. So, while it may not have aged as gracefully as other games on this list, it’s an utterly fascinating project with incredible ideas that have since been incorporated into numerous genre classics.
12. Breath of Fire II
To be honest, Breath of Fire II doesn’t have a particularly memorable stand-out feature. Sure, there’s a town-building feature that lets you fill a town with various NPCs you meet throughout the game, but it’s easily ignored. Having a giant talking armadillo in your party is also pretty cool, but it’s obviously hard to recommend the game based on that alone.
So why should you play Breath of Fire II? Well, it’s just a very solidly told fantasy story with a lengthy quest and strong turn-based combat. It’s nothing flashy, but it’s a strong overall entry into the Super Nintendo’s RPG library.
11. Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
The release of Lufia II was overshadowed by the release of the next-gen systems and a SNES library already bursting with classic RPGs. It took a while for a lot of gamers to dig up this hidden gem, and some gamers simply never found it at all. To be fair, the story (which features a typical fantasy hero who has to save the world from the four evil Sinistrals) is a little mechanical, but Lufia II features some of the best graphics and music of any game on the console. Plus, there are tons of puzzles to solve and a 99-level randomized dungeon to eventually tackle. Honestly, Lufia II might feature more “gameplay” than any other Super Nintendo RPG.
While it’s billed as a sequel, Rise of the Sinistrals is actually a prequel to the first game, so you can feel free to dive right into it without playing through the first (though Lufia and the Fortress of Doom is well worth checking out as well).
10. Harvest Moon
Arriving at the tail end of the SNES’ lifespan, Harvest Moon made a lot of gamers re-examine what an RPG could actually be. There’s no combat and no great quest to save the world. You’re just a simple farmer growing crops and raising livestock on the land you inherited from your grandfather. It sounds boring, but the gameplay loop is remarkably addictive. There’s a reason why the Harvest Moon series continues to this day and has inspired dozens of imitators, spin-offs, and sequels (most notably Stardew Valley).
Admittedly, some of the recent Harvest Moon games haven’t lived up to the series’ standards, but thanks to charming characters, witty writing, and its simple yet deep gameplay, there’s a very good argument that this first Harvest Moon game remains the best in the franchise.
9. Illusion of Gaia
The spiritual sequel to Soul Blazer exchanged the town-building mechanics of its predecessor for more involved combat, which honestly made it a better game overall. Illusion of Gaia also forgoes the traditional leveling of most RPGs for a roguelike system where protagonist Will can choose to increase his attack, defense, or health stats after clearing each room of enemies. As such, how you choose to proceed can make the final bosses of each dungeon significantly easier or much more difficult.
While it’s not technically set in the real world, Illusion of Gaia does incorporate several real-life locations, such as Egyptian pyramids, Incan ruins, and the Great Wall of China, leading to some of the most unique locales in any SNES RPG. It’s also a much better-looking game than Soul Blazer, fixing one of its predecessor’s biggest flaws.
8. Secret of Evermore
Square Enix (then Squaresoft) is primarily a Japanese developer, but after the massive success of multiple titles in the ‘90s, they decided to give an American studio a crack at the Square formula. While the basic gameplay of Secret of Evermore is obviously inspired by the superior Secret of Mana, Evermore mixes things up by restricting combat to just you and your trusty dog. There’s also a new alchemy mechanic that allows you to create potions when battling the game’s many tough bosses.
For better or worse, Evermore is also graphically a much darker game than other Square titles of the era. It all mostly works here, but Square was ultimately not interested in pursuing Americanized versions of its games and Evermore is now more of a curiosity than anything else.

7. Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen
More of a military strategy sim than a typical RPG, The March of the Black Queen might be the most demanding game on the SNES. You will spend a lot of time managing units, some of which include ninjas, griffins, and witches. But when you pick just the right strategy, it’s oh so rewarding to watch them take back the continent of Zetegenia from the evil Empress Endora. It also features one of the denser stories of any 16-bit game. Many of the best plot beats may even remind you more of Game of Thrones than Lord of the Rings.
This is actually considered the fifth episode of the Ogre Battle saga, and while several sequels were produced over the years, the first four games that would have presumably featured the rise of Endora were never made. Sadly, though, Square Enix now owns the property, it doesn’t look like the Ogre Battle saga will ever be completed either.
6. Final Fantasy IV
Plenty of RPGs were released before Final Fantasy IV (also known as Final Fantasy II in North America at the time of its release), but this was the true turning point for the JRPG genre. Of course, the graphics and sound were better with the move to more powerful hardware, but what really set it apart was the distinction of being one of the first RPGs to actually feature a fully fleshed-out plot complete with a complicated love triangle and a sympathetic villain in Golbez. It was also the first Square game to include the Active Time Battle system, which showed that JRPGs didn’t have to just be plodding turn-based affairs.
Honestly, the only downside of playing Final Fantasy IV on the SNES is that the original English translation is a little iffy. That’s been fixed in later ports and remakes, so while it might not be worth checking out on the SNES anymore over other options, it’s still worth playing in some form.
5. Super Mario RPG
Both Nintendo and Square were arguably at the height of their abilities in the mid-90s, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that when they finally teamed up, the result was an absolute masterpiece. Super Mario RPG expertly combined the beloved Mushroom Kingdom setting and Mario platforming with Square’s top-tier storytelling abilities and advanced RPG combat systems for a truly epic game.
Those who have played through Super Mario RPG still yearn for a true sequel developed by Square or, at the very least, the addition of Geno to Super Smash Bros. Given how beloved the game is, it’s surprising that Square and Nintendo still haven’t teamed up for another RPG. The Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi games are good, but none have surpassed this classic.
4. Secret of Mana
Closer to The Legend of Zelda than Final Fantasy in gameplay, Secret of Mana was perhaps the most innovative RPG of the ‘90s. It introduced many gamers to faster, varied combat, three-player multiplayer, and an absolutely massive game world. Even better, it’s all wrapped up with some of the best music and graphics of the generation. While still confined to the 2D limitations of the SNES, Secret of Mana’s systems are closer to what we see today in modern RPGs and action games than anything that came before.
While this game has been ported and remade perhaps more than any other game on this list, none of those versions quite match the first release. The original version of Secret of Mana still looks and feels timeless.
3. Earthbound
RPGs were generally considered more niche games in the ‘90s. They rarely sold well, but at least did well critically. Earthbound is even more unusual because the initial reviews were rather tepid, yet it’s now considered one of the greatest games of all time. Most gamers just weren’t ready for an RPG set in the modern world that alternated between the cheery enthusiasm of childhood and the ominous alienation of growing up. In that way, Earthbound could be considered a PG-rated South Park that debuted two years before South Park even premiered.
Surreal, satirical, and sometimes just plain weird, Earthbound remains one of the more unique and innovative RPGs ever made. It’s a triumph of the genre that dozens of other games have attempted to emulate, but none have yet surpassed. Now, if Nintendo would just get around to finally putting out an official English localization of the sequel…
2. Final Fantasy VI
Two decades and nine sequels later, there are still some RPG fans who consider Final Fantasy VI to be the pinnacle of the series. That’s debatable, but it’s easily the best of the 2D entries as well as a kind of swan song to the gameplay that introduced many gamers to RPGs for the first time, with its pitch-perfect ATB battles, a huge, varied world to explore, and an epic, apocalyptic story.
But it’s the cinematic aspects that make Final Fantasy VI stand out. The rousing soundtrack pushes the SNES to its absolute limits, making moments like the famous opera scene and the final battle against Kefka feel especially epic. Square arguably came to rely on CG movies a little too much in later games, but Final Fantasy VI is proof that the developers were master storytellers long before that.
1. Chrono Trigger
Is there really anything to dislike about Chrono Trigger? The time-traveling story that sees our heroes journey across millennia to save the world is simply outstanding. The characters, from Frog to Magus, are among the most memorable in any RPG. While the combat system might be a little simpler than some of the games on this list, letting party members team up to use their “Tech” abilities in different ways is endlessly customizable and entertaining. Of course, all of that occurs before you even dig into the new game plus and dozen different endings.
It’s difficult to label any video game as truly perfect, but Chrono Trigger may be the closest thing to perfection that gaming has ever seen. More than two decades on, it remains a high point in the RPG genre that all gamers need to experience at least once, and it’s easily the very best RPG on the SNES.

lace: what is something in your life completely different from last year? im out to basically all of my friends!!!!!!! as opposed to last year when i'd only come out to my bf (now ex) and he was like "mmmm ok but im still gonna see you as your assigned gender." so that's a really nice change :-)

☰ - Fun random fact about the mun!
Every time someone asks me a random fact I immediately forget all facts about my life.
No, I’m kidding. Or well, I’m not, but that’s not really a great random fact. So instead I’m going to go with my latest achievement. Yesterday evening I finally beat Tyranny after ~31 hours of play (according to Steam), which is a god damn accomplishment because I NEVER finish games. Like I’m the sort of person who plays a game for a while then gets distracted by another one and never comes back to finish the first. Of course, it also doesn’t help that I’m really bad at a lot of genres, so it’s just difficult for me to beat games in general. RPGs (whether CRPGs or more mainstream ones), like Tyranny, are probably just about the only games I ever beat, since they require just time rather than skill (especially since I usually play at relatively low difficulties so I can feel OP).
In fact, I’d guess that I’ve beaten less than 10% of the games I’ve played, and 5% of the games in my Steam library. Since I’m now curious, I’m going to go through and list the ones I’ve played, and bold the ones I’ve beaten, so that I can come up with an ACTUAL percentage.
For the record, all RTSes or multiplayer titles will be left out unless they have a single player campaign, in which case, that’s what I’m referring to by whether or not I’ve beaten the game. (example: Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is well-known for being a great tactics game, but it also has a complex campaign line made up of multiple branches that come together for a story. Since I’ve not beaten it (though I’ve been periodically replaying it over the years), I can’t consider the game ‘beaten’ even though I’ve won quite a few normal games against the AI on easy difficulty.
Abzu
Age of Empires II
Age of Mythology
Age of Wonders III
Antichamber
Aquaria (gotten so close, like probably 80%, but then got stuck)
Baldur’s Gate
The Banner Saga
Bastion
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Brutal Legend
Chroma Squad (got SOOO close. Got to right before the final boss battle, then my game glitched and wouldn’t let me continue, and it was so disheartening I haven’t gone back. I know the bug’s fixed now, so I’ll probably replay it someday, but...)
Cinders (though I’ve only gotten one ending out of like 7+)
Costume Quest
Costume Quest 2
Cthulhu Saves The World (main campaign only, not the new game+ mode)
Divinity: Original Sin (so many attempts made, but it’s better with two players, and that always leads to the other person I’m playing with losing interest, or scheduling conflicts for play sessions, or whatever.)
DLC Quest (this game is less than two hours long so I’m not sure if it counts, but.)
Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age 2
Dragon Age: Inquisition
Dust: An Elysian Tail
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim (hahahahaha. ha. h a.)
Epistory: Typing Chronicles (got to a point I’m just not good enough to progress, sadly. fucking amazing game though.)
Evoland
Forced Showdown (have beaten the first campaign, not able to beat second one yet. I probably will never be good enough for that, though.)
Gravity Ghost
Guild of Dungeoneering
Hatoful Boyfriend (gotten one ending. that’s enough.)
Heroes of Might and Magic III
Hunie Cam Studio (have beaten it and gotten the highest ranking of dick trophy, if I recall correctly.)
ittle Dew
Knights of Pen and Paper (beat it on mobile before it was the +1 edition, have not cleared all the new content that’s been added since)
Lego Marvel
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Long Live the Queen (is it even possible to beat this game without a walkthrough...)
lumino city
Magicka
The Marvellous Miss Take
Mass Effect
No Man’s Sky (have not reached center of the galaxy, due to spending time grinding out the language of one of the aliens, which I did fully complete.)
Ori and the Blind Forest
Paper Sorcerer (almost done with, I think)
Party Hard (beat it a bit after release, have not beaten the new content that came out since.)
Pillars of Eternity (probably would have beaten if it I didn’t keep restarting the damn game every time. I’ve beaten the first act once, and the first 3-5 areas probably a couple dozen times...)
Putt Putt Goes To The Moon (beaten this probably hundreds of times as a kid, plus a few times as an adult)
Putt Putt Travels Through Time
Rack n’ Ruin
Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale
Renowned Explorers: International Society (have beaten the release version a couple times, have not beaten the new content)
Reverse Crawl
Saint’s Row IV
Scribblenauts Unmasked
Seduce Me the Otome (no judging pls.)
Shadowrun Returns
Shadowrun Dragonfall (I got really far then lost a bunch of progress, I forget why, and didn’t feel like doing the same missions I’d just done. Someday I’ll play it again and beat it.)
Snakebird
Solitairica
South Park: The Stick of Truth
Stacking
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (unfortunately I can’t get the resolution fix to work on my current computer, so playing this is reserved for when I visit my parents, since it works on their computer. thankfully, I can transfer my save file easily via email.)
Stardew Valley
thomas was alone
To The Moon
Transistor (someday. some fucking day)
Trine
Trine 2
Tyranny (still planning new playthroughs to finish the game with all 4 endings possible)
UnEpic (I think this is beatable and not JUST roguelite?)
War for the Overworld
The Witcher
The Witcher 2
The Wolf Among Us
The Yawhg (have played through to the ending once, have not gotten other endings.)
So, I’ve played 74 out of 276 games in my library. Of those 74, I’ve beaten.. 23 of them, or 20 if you consider only getting one ending in a visual novel to be cheating (which is probably true to be fair). >_>
...That’s actually not as bad as I thought, all things considered.
Not included on the above list, games I’ve played very very briefly and either lost interest in or was too bad at:
Assassin’s Creed (can’t remember which one I played, but I gave up and switched ot watching the movie versions on youtube)
Ascendant
Batman Arkham games (see Assassin’s Creed)
Broken Age
Final Fantasy.... 13, I think. I hated the stupid ‘stars on battle’ mechanics because, due to my OCD, I could NOT handle not getting 5 stars. like I’d just keep trying the same battles over and over and over again and not getting 5 stars and getting frustrated and just. It was probably the game I’ve hated most of all time.
The Magic Circle
Mass Effect 2 (someday I’ll get around to this again... And then ten years later I’ll get around to 3...)
Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Pony Island (not sure how far I got, but someday I’ll come back to this)
Portal
The Witcher 3 (the FoV makes me sick and it’s not worth the effort to mod the files, since honestly, it’s a bit gorey for my tastes anyway. I’m STILL mad I can’t refund this since the steam refund policy came out a day too late...)
