3rd Life/Last Life Rendog comparison

i'm obsessed with last life ren and i've been noticing quite a few connections between him and 3rd life ren so i thought i'd write down some of my thougths and draw some comparisons. this is all focused on ren's episode 3 since that's what i've just watched and there's been the most connections here so far

Ren: So it looks like we might be building a little army around the server here. Of course, the army is lead by the Shadow Queen. Of course. And, y’know, I am just the humble bodyguard-slash-mercenary. But, y’know, we might be able to steer this alliance in the direction that we please as the season progresses. As long as we don’t take any chances and don’t cause any trouble in the alliance, I think we’re gonna be good there.

army he says. an army that is "of course" lead by someone with a royal title. and he wants to steer the alliance in the direction that'll benefit him. hmm. hmmmm

(Ren is pointing a bow at Skizz's head) Skizz: No need for that, homie. (Ren ignores him) Lizzie: Okay, stand down, Ren. (Ren immediately stops and bows) Ren: Yes, my Shadow Queen. Skizz: Oh, okay. You know what, I’m a little jealous. Tell you right now I’m a little jealous. Lizzie: Cost me a whole life, that. Skizz: Ren’s a loyal sword, you got a good guy there. Real good guy there. [...] Skizz: (walks over to Ren’s perch and crouches) Ren? Nothing but respect for you, buddy.

There's several things here - for one, there's Lizzie ordering Ren around and him immediately obeying her. And then there's also Skizz commenting about Ren being a loyal sword, with the context of Skizz having been one of the most devoted members of the Red Army in 3rd Life. He knows him, y'know?

Bdubs (to Lizzie): Alright. (bows) My liege. My liege— Ren: There we go. That’s better. Bdubs: —I am disappointed in the thievery of the enchanting table.

He wants Lizzie to be treated with respect. of course "my liege" is a general term but it's worth noting that this is one Martyn used a lot for him in 3rd Life (so much so that it made me do a double take to hear it from someone other than Martyn, and addressing someone other than Ren)

Ren (to Scar): Wait, really? Am I doing this? How have you convinced me to do this, hold on! I'm giving you a life for all this rubbish? [...] But I want more out of this. Last Life is so much bigger than items, my friend. You know that better than anybody. [...] I want your solemn promise [...] that from now until the end of the series you will never attack me or kill me.

He was so desperate in the previous session to get another life, and yet now he's giving it away again. And yes, he does trade it for essentially a bunch of junk, which makes me think of fun potential fae Scar stuff - him being able to convince people to buy all these things - but he also trades it for a promise that Scar won't attack him.

In general, Ren sealing deals with lives is a common thing. There's the execution in 3rd Life that caused the rise of the Red King, and in Last Life there's been his deal with Lizzie - undying loyalty in exchange for a life - and now this one with Scar. It's interesting to me. Lives mean a lot to him.

There's also the fact that Scar and Ren were enemies on 3rd Life, and the fact that Ren's first and last lives were indirectly and directly taken by Scar (first through the TNT trap that Grian only made because of his alliance to Scar, and then Scar shooting him during the Battle of Dogwarts). And now Ren has made Scar promise not to harm him in Last Life.

Ren: It's called Shadow Tower, and it’s a place for all allies to come eventually for when they need respite on this server. (pause) I’m just saying. Etho: I hope you view me as an ally.

Etho was also in the Red Army. Ren's once again building a place for allies to come together, just like Dogwarts was in 3rd Life.

Etho: I've noticed you've been hanging out on your own. Ren: Yeah, I’m a bit of a lone wolf this season. Chilling, making my own stuff, y’know? Taking it easy? Etho: Yeah. You should look into getting some allies, like, closer. Ren: Well, I’ve got a couple of allies in the fairy forest to the left.

Ren (to Lizzie and Cleo): As the weeks progress, things are going to get extremely intense. There’s going to be a lot of murder. Next session, we need to get ourselves ready. Battle-ready. Each and every one of ourselves needs to [...] defend ourselves from the scum that roam the earth outside. [...] We’re gonna train. We’re gonna take the server by storm. [...] Murder. Cleo: I don't think we're allowed to kill people?

He's eager to start training so they can kill people. It sounds like the army quote from above, and reminds me a lot of the Red Army.

I also find it worth noting that Ren's main weapon on Last Life is currently a diamond axe.
