Erot!ca: my most self-indulgent fic, it's so close to my heart bc I've always wanted to write a rockband au, taking my fave songs and using them in a fic. and i just love bassist!steve being lovesick !!

Captain's Legacy: my fave dark fic, birthed by an ask from a one of my oldest anons, now revealed bestie. i love world-building and HCV took a lot of work with all of the factfiles, moodboards, descriptions, and planned 6 fics, but I've never been more proud of an au. as a socio major, society and stuff like that is so interesting to me, so i love writing anything set in HCV.

Contradictory experiences, nothing to do with being neurodivergent btw, saying as one. I, like millions other out there, both ''stan'' celebrities and hate knowing anything at all about celebrities at the same time. In this case it's celebrities who are creators and have connected with me through their art, helped me mentally. Like musicians, I'd die without music and it helps that I know some people out there are good people. At the same time, I hate that I also know a lot of big musicians are terrible people and I can't just casually listen to their stuff. And it's not just big celebs like comics fans also technically stan a lot of creators despite them insulting their fans/ fave characters, some even stan the company itself. There's a lot in this, it's not so simple to just dismiss it as ''parasocial relationship weird'' the way people who have never ''stanned a real person'' do and it's not 100% stalkery and delusion. It's understandable we feel frustrated by media making their lives the focus of ours, both feelings coexist that's society, unfortunately. You won't be free of it. I know me supporting real life humans in their creative endeavors is doing good for them n me, and I'll punt every royal family stan into the sun, such is life. (This isn't me telling you to not be pissed over it btw)

one: the ghost of tom joad

I once ranted about this specific song in detail so here if anyone’s interested, but: it took me years to decide on which one was my favorite overall but then I went for tom joad because it has all. it’s a heartbreaking song that updates one of my favorite ever novels (the grapes of wrath) to current days situations and guys I swear to god the fact that he put to music tom’s speech to his mother in the novel at the end after rehashing the themes in a new light in the rest of it killed me and I want it tattooed, so. tom joad now and always thanks guys. I love this damned song to levels that are embarrassing as hell.

two: no surrender (in the live 75-85 version)

so: no surrender is originally on born in the usa and actually it’s my favorite song from that record regardless - like, it opens side two and I remember that the first time I heard it was on a tape a friend’s dad (haha) had lent me bc he knew I was into bruce and he was too and I turned it to the second side of the tape and played it and I was like holy crap this is it but then I heard the acoustic live version from the following tour and guys. guys. if you ever had friends you fell out of touch with but still remember fondly and/or friendships you know that even if you don’t talk for a while you’ll always be close when you meet again this is.. just… idk it hit me like a punch in the stomach and it never left. I cried every single time he played it live when I went to see him. no regrets. I love this song sfm and the melancholy in the acoustic version just destroys me.

three: for you (acoustic piano version)

I 100% realize this is probably a weird choice for top three, but: this was on his first album and the version on there is pretty damned good - it’s about a guy whose girlfriend tries to commit suicide and reminesces about their relationship - and you’d go like why, but: first of all he has some of his best lines in this (my electric surges free I just sdgsldjl) and the entire last stanza where he goes from where I found you broken at the beach to the end is just a knife into your heart, but this goddamned version here just goes and tears your heart out and stomps on it and I swear if there is one thing I want from bruce is that he plays this in front of me next time I see him live because for now I never managed and just - the slow piano kills me. I love it. the fact that when I asked brian fallon in a tumblr q&a his fave bruce song and he said this specific one just confirmed he’s a true intellectual. ;)

four: drive all night

or: this is the love song. I just. the first time I heard this I fell off the chair or something and it was the studio version which is nowhere near as heartfelt as the live versions and I swear it’s just - it has very lovely lyrics that perfectly balance melancholy and hopeful and don’t make it saccharine, the fucking sax solo destroys me every single goddamned time I hear it and when you get to the end and he says that she has his love heart and soul it’s The Most Heartfelt Thing I Have Ever Heard In My Life Or Close To It and I just, I love drive all night with every inch of my atoms, bye.

five: badlands

I ranted about this extensively yesterday here so I refer you to it for long rant about it, but tldr: this was actually the first bruce song I ever heard knowing it was by bruce - it wasn’t what got me on that train but it still was the first and like… I didn’t understand it for a long time bc my first run-in with bruce was a hit and miss but then I did and like, this song is basically quintessential bruce because it has all his themes rolled up into one, all the good stuff, everything that is good about his music and most of all live it’s a goddamned religious experience. 

so, that was for the top five, but top ten…

six: youngstown (click here for full rant from last year) which was a hard choice but this damned song slays me whether acoustic or electric and I love his use of language and how he built it and how he teaches you things in five minutes pretty much and how the music/mood matches the words in both versions and seems to mean different approaches but still doesn’t change the core of it, and is2g the last two lines and the second stanza and the line he recycled from the mahardige book he inspired himself with when he wrote this are just goddamned out of this world and like this one raised the ladder for years but I just, love it to pieces

seven: rosalita (come out tonight), or: bruce does serious and politics incredibly well but this one is just a delight from beginning to end, it’s fun, I could listen to it for a month without getting tired, it always puts a smile on my face and the entire last part where he tells her to inform her dad he has a record company now so no reason to hate that his daughter is with a moneyless musician is just… so… lovely and fun and lighthearted and I just really love this song a lot ;;

eight: highway patrolman or, there’s no way a top ten bruce songs has no nebraska material from me because nebraska Is A Damn Masterpiece and this one’s my fave off it, but tldr: the utter, absolute way this thing slays you with just voice and guitar and the way he makes you feel about the cop who ends up letting his brother with ptsd from vietnam escape after he accidentally kills someone is out of this world and I just, this one really has a way to make you empathize with the narrator and my heart ;_; (also the movie they made from it which is in that video is really good k viggo mortensen playing the brother with ptsd isn’t leaving me anytime soon)

nine: thunder road (rant attached to the link) or: this one is short and sweet but honest, it’s not The Definitive Love Song To Me just bc drive all night exists. this damned song is a masterpiece in itself. it’s flawless. it has the crescendo, it has the fact that at whichever moment in his life he sings it it works, ‘it’s a town full of losers and I’m pulling out of here to win’ is the most iconic line that ever ended a song or close to it and it’s exactly the kinda love song you wanna hear if you want realistic love song material and just, legendary. okay? legendary.

ten: american skin (41 shots), or: this actually is what got me into springsteen bc I borrowed the live album it was published on originally after my first try with darkness went so-so, I listened to it and was like ‘okay yeah he’s good’, then I got to this one and went like ‘wait a fucking moment this isn’t just good’ (count that I was twelve and understood maybe 1/5th in the english songs I heard), I actually looked it up, went like woah wait aaand listened to it for two weeks straight, bought the record, translated everything by hand, started reading about what the fuck was wrong with the circumstances for which it was written and here I am twenty years later dying over bruce and having been introduced thanks to him to 80% of his country’s societal issues or I’d have had no idea that early in my life. anyway: other than the sentimental value, it’s honestly out of this world good and the live version just nailed it way better than the studio that was released years later and I love bruce a lot, k? k.

I saw Bohemian Rhapsody and I loved it. Even though my sentimental fave “Save Me” was robbed lol. But seriously, I’ve been listening to their Greatest Hits album (that I bought in 2015) ever since. For a new listener, what studio albums would you recommend? The movie sort of implies that “A Night at the Opera” was Queen’s magnus opus so I’m leaning towards that.

Hi im glad you enjoyed it :) im actually not the best person to ask this because i haven’t listened album by album yet either, bc i want to delve into it during winter break or some time, but also because i want to spread it out and not run out of material quickly :’) but yes a night at the opera and a day at the races really have some of their best work, i think the albums between mid-late 70s are the ones that are favored the most. I think you could listen to singles from each and decide which era suits your tastes the best, some people love the early 70s the most, some the 80s. Or the greatest hits you mentioned covers up to the 80s so i guess you could use the songs you like from there as a reference. I also like listening/watching live recordings a lot too, their energy is just so amazing and some songs can be better live too. Seriously, the big recorded concerts are so well loved for a reason, i can’t recommend them enough. And I’m not going very systematically with it tbh, i don’t mind discovering songs for the first time through whatever spotify brings up or i end up watching a bunch of different performances on youtube. so just go however you want with it and it doesn’t matter whether others think its their best or not :)

The Thief and the Cobbler - ooHHhhh my god this movie has been something ive been absolutely enchanted with all my life it’s such a masterpiece. when i was younger i had the cut up version distributed by miramax but i just recently watched the uncobbled full version and , wow. every time i think about the fact that it was in production for roughly 30 years, is entirely hand drawn, and almost didn’t see the light of day, i lose my mind

The Fall (2006) - this movie is just so visually stunning, and it always makes me really emotional. i definitely recommend it, but it does cover some sensitive topics so be safe! - its about a stuntman (played by lee pace) in the 1920′s who ends up paralyzed from the waist down after a failed stunt, and while he’s in the hospital he weaves an epic tale for a little girl in order to try and trick her into getting him morphine so he can commit suicide. its one of those movies that just shook me to my core when i first watched it, and i keep coming back to it and still get emotional every time

everything by Laika honestly - i know they’re appreciated but i feel like most of the world doesn’t truly care for them the way they do other more “mainstream” movies and they don’t get as much attention as i feel they deserve. Coraline, Paranorman, The Boxtrolls, Kubo and the Two Strings; all of these movies are just so wonderful, charming, and full of not only incredible craftsmenship, but also incredible storytelling

Lady in the Water (2006) - okay i know a lot of people like to dump on M. Night Shyamalan and rightfully so, but this movie is another one of those ones that’s always been a fave of mine even if critics say its not very good. its about this man who maintains an apartment complex, who one day finds a woman in the pool of the building. he discovers that she’s a water nymph of sorts, and is in trouble from a dangerous wolf-like beast that is hunting her down. in order to save her life this man and many of the residents of the complex have to come together and fulfill a prophecy in order to help her safely get back to her own world. 

man i had a tough time deciding on what movie could go in this fifth and final spot, because whenever you’ve got to finish a list is always when you remember the most things that could go in it - Robots (2005) is what im putting here though. this movie is so so so fun and inspirational, and I mean, leave it to William Joyce, one of my favorite creators, to have a hand in something like this. Same goes for Meet the Robinsons - theyve got similar fun and motivational energies haha. plus in both those movies theres a really lovely “your family is who you make it to be” sentiment 

honorable mentions that honestly could go on this list too - nothing on this list has a specific order bc i have too much love in my heart and everything has different strengths - Stardust, Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Iron Giant, The Black Cauldron, The Way Way Back, Song of the Sea + The Secret of Kells, and of course now my mind has blanked again but theres so many others

suit up / orbit (double top spot that hasn’t changed in a while. orbit is my fave overall i would say but the last minute of suit up is my fave moment on the album and the instrumental these days makes me cry so dhdhdhhd)

moon (just …. masterpiece. makes the brain waves tingle)

cocktail (a weirdly sentimental instrumental that still work perfectly with the song anyway. also love that this nearly would have been on taem’s song roster instead of jjong’s … can you imagine lmaooooo)

dress up (the moment when the beat drops away in the chorus i howl every time who even sits there and writes such a song ,,,,, also the dress up / suit up duo is my favourite thing on the album)

she is (ITS A FANTASTIC TITLE TRACK LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING THIS IS IN DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS)

red (another more mid-tempo hit. damn that’s where he shines the most)

I got super busy again!!! I know mission 5 will be posted tomorrow but for mission 4 I'll share some of my favorite moments for my groups!! I think I'll try to send links to videos in a separate message because I'm not sure if I actually can but I'll try!!

I actually find it pretty hard to come up with favorite moments lol I'd have to say my favorite seventeen moment was their ode to you tour!! I was actually able to go and I have such fond memories of the concert that I think it has to be my favorite memory of seventeen.

For txt this isn't exactly a moment with a video but my favorite memory with txt is trying to introduce my roommate to them!!! I showed her all of the teasers and music videos and she was very adamant about the fact that she gets a weird vibe from Heuningkai!!! A bit more of a personal memory but still my favorite one!!

With treasure it has to be an episode of their variety show!!! They did an episode where they took care of little kids for a day!! It was cute and I always go back to it if I'm feeling down!!

With verivery is currently minchan's cover he did when he came back after his break!! I also really love their variety show!!! The editing team is SUPER IMPRESSIVE!!! And funny!!!! Like the going seventeen staff is really good too but the veriveriland staff is just as good in a different way!!!

And with onf, I don't remember if I mentioned it or not, but their road to kingdom introduction is one of my favorites along with their it's raining performance!!!

WOAA, i’ve always wanted to go to a seventeen concert, i have heard that they are really really amazing, like they are able to really connect with the public and make them have a great time, and i also want to live an aju nice encore, i just want to go AJU NICE!! infinite times

Is so nice being able to talk with your friends about your favorite groups, i don’t really have any irl that like Kpop, but i do have a friend that used to like it, he always lets me rant about it even if he doesn’t follow the groups, i really love him a lot

I will watch treasure variety show as soon as i havefree time!! i wanted to watch another variety show but some editing kills it for me, for example, i’m not really fond of how Finding SKZ season 2 is edited, and i watched it and ofc was funny, but they edit did take out points for me. I’m looking forward to watch it

The cover is so so good!!! i think i will download it to put it on spotify, i love how soft his voice is, is like, it remainds me of like these velvet like cloth they use in clothes, like not soft in like a lullaby way but in a gentle but firm way, idk if that makes sense. i don’t acually like the original song, but this one is so good.

Maybe i’m wrong but onf seem very tall, are they?? or they just have tall energy?? btw that stage was super cool, and the way they used those kind of courtains was super cool, I feel like the RTK stage has a weird shape (like physically) is kind of like a tunnel, props to them for knowing how to create different ambients with that.

Also!! I finally saw VERIVERY cover of mansae!! it was amazing!! i really like how they kept the original style but added theirs too, the guy who said (sorry for not knowing his name) “wanna walk with me?” killed it.

Okay my favorites moments!! here we go!!

Loona is the first one who comes to me, i think my most emotional one was seeing their debut finally, i remember waiting literally a year for it, and seeing how it got pushed around, and getting to know the girls one by one, and seeing the flavor of every sub unit, they were all so so different so when they realease Hi High, it was like all of that wait and styles came toghether, aside from that their first win is also one of mine favorite moments, kind of bc of the same reasons, and just thinking on how much they waited and how heejin had to wait so much and endure even more (she tought she had been scammed at some point) , it just makes me cry. their recent win is also super cute bc is the first one with haseul!! (she is not the one who is crying) and you can see them carry her around and is adorable. 

That on Loona sentimental moments, now, for amazing stuff i can show you their cover of Cherry Bomb that even got the attention of SM CEO, the song they did for inmortal songs (HIGHLY recommended, it has classy spy vibes) and the cover of sunmi’s full moon they did for halloween, those are all amazing stages.

With seventeen i don’t think i have a particular fave moment, but when the annoucement of their contract renewal came out i got super emotional, i kind of realized there how happy they had made me on this shitty year, it got me suuuper emotional. Like knowng they are still there and i can look forward to them, it was nice. On a light hearted note i adore the “the tag” and “let’s go seventeen” gose episodes, they are really funny and show their personalities really well.

Oh, idk if i told you but lately i been getting into stray kids, and while i don’t have an emotional moment with them their dududu stage on kingdom is pretty crazy, the actor of deadpool became a fan bc of it. One of the things i like about them is how they take stuff and transform them in something that is so laudly and  unapologetically stray kids (wich is kind of funny bc while their music is so strong/ agressive their are one of the softest groups i have seen, not saying bc i like them is just more like, they wouldn’t start a fight with you, ever, i can see other groups getting into fight, like a mix on situation and members personalities (fight as in not a bad fight, more like light wrestling or playful fight) but they are kind of soft in that, they look intimidating but i promise they are not)
