Now that you bring it up past anons, I don't think how I'll ever get over how everything went down. I found kpop through Bigbang right at the 10 year anniversary mark, and learned that I started out at the top. Learning how powerful Bigbang was all those years was euphoric. Buy then it was like watching the fall of an empire, and it's just been cataclysmic. Nothing but scandals a country's worth of immense hatred and a fandom civil war! I'm loyal beyond rationality, but good grief I want to experience good days as a vip for once, because from Last Dance era onward feels like I'm constantly burning 😭😭😭
Sorry I'm dramatic, but every experience is tainted and somebody needs to hit the refresh button QUICKLY
See, this is what happens when I reply to anons in a regular fashion -- you all start talking to each other through me. What do y’all think I am, a VIP conduit 😭
lol I’m just playing. And it’s better than y’all fighting through me, which is one of a few reasons why I’ve stopped responding to OT5 provocations here. But yeah... the fall of an empire... and what a fall it was. First there was SR and Burning Sun starting in late winter and ramping up in spring. When he left, a surprising number of people were sure it spelled the end for BB. Then another YG group lost a member (iKON) because of Burning Sun; Han Seo Hee, though I think we can all agree she’s a snake, claims the handling of Burning Sun and the whistleblower situation re: the chats emboldened her to speak up about her dealings with Hanbin. Of course, this brought her past with TOP from several years prior back to the public’s attention. Great. Then YG lost its founder to similar accusations as SR -- and soon after, its CEO. Then another BB member came under scrutiny, and at that point all I could do was hold my breath, wait out the gunfire, and hope for the best.
2019 was a fun year, huh? All this while fending off OT5s whose modus operandi is turning a blind eye.
Coincidentally, my favorite band ever, who’s been around exactly as long as BB, went independent in 2019 and spent the year working on a war-themed album, which, when completed, was also coincidentally scheduled to be released on the same day BB were set to play the first weekend at Coachella in April 2020 -- though with COVID lockdowns going into effect they were able to fast-track the release date and get their music to fans a week ahead of schedule. A perk of being independent, I guess.
Anyway, in June, around the time things were heating up again with YG and related parties, this group dropped a single called The Evening Hate. And there’s this part in the bridge that I thought summed up the situation surprisingly well:
like cinders it rains
we fall, we fall
an empire in flames
we crawl, we’re crawling out
It’s pretty heavy, so for those who aren’t into that sort of thing there’s a far softer and very pretty alternative version here.
Anyway, in terms of warfare, BB aren’t in the trenches anymore, so where are they? Hiding in the woods or something. Waiting for an opportune moment to reveal themselves and announce their presence again. As a reformed team of four, of course.
The thing is... when it comes to comeback stages, nothing beats Coachella. That was it for them, that was what they needed to pull them onto their feet and propel them back into, what... relevancy? Tragically, it’s gone down in history as a false start. Or really, no start at all. Our starting line keeps getting pushed back, pushed back, pushed back, our flower road walled off until another, kinder spring.
The world is still struggling with COVID, yes, and Korea in particular seems to have its hands full with a third wave that’s proving more severe than the first two. I follow a few kpop news accounts on Twitter and every day is filled with updates on this or that music show, pre-recording, online concert, etc involving a staff member who tested positive for COVID, and suddenly everything’s halted, production put on hold, and all the members of these idol groups are undergoing testing and self-isolating with their agencies announcing the results. Blackpink was supposed to stream an online concert at the end of this month, but unsurprisingly, that too has been postponed. In conclusion, this is no time for BB to attempt to be active. No time for their grand, long-awaited comeback. No time at all.
They will rise again, it’s just a question of when, where, and how.
we are fighting to survive
from the ashes we ignite
we live, we die
we fall, we rise
You know, I had a dream once that BB came back with an album called RESTART, but hey, REFRESH works too.

IN REVIEW: RECENT RELEASES
1) ATEEZ: Thanxx. Of the two choices, I think it’s the better song purely because it’s better written, better produced and performed with more conviction than Inception. I like the instrumentation they chose, the raps were brilliantly fun, the vocals were anthemic, the ad libs were great and there was something in this that made me think it could’ve had a similar impact as God’s Menu. But everything was ruined by that damm hair issue. It killed any buzz, anticipation and pure enjoyment of the song. I still think it’s a great song objectively but this is another big example of just how influential social consciousness is.  8/10.
2) SuperM: Tiger Inside. Simon Says x Wolf. This would’ve made a great Debut song for SuperM because it’s clearly westernised but also very distinctively SM and KPOP. It’s a nice marriage of the two and much less divisive and forced (and cringe!) than Jopping was. It sounds what I thought SuperM would sound like: a mash-up of the groups involved. The Ad Libs are really great on this. It’s typical SM in a good way, especially with the bratty raps, stacked vocals and harmonising. I like Taeyong’s Vroom Vroom verse, the BaekMin bridge and the Hurry Up Wake Up part (which is so catchy and should’ve been longer). There’s a lot of bandwagon hate for SuperM and while I understand many aspects of it, objectively this song is very fun. 8/10.
3) Taemin: Criminal. Firstly, this sounds like Noir Sin City Pop/Synthwave, which is a genre I am always a big fan of. Secondly, the MV is gorgeous. The sets are amazing and the colour editing in post production is insanely clean. His voice isn’t really my kinda thing but it really works on Synth heavy tracks like this because of that breathy quality he has. His backup dancers are awesome and what I can never take away from him is how phenomenal he is as a performer. He is very similar to Sunmi in that respect, they commit to the concept and always elevate the music with their natural charisma and stage presence. It’s oddly quite rare in KPOP nowadays. 8.5/10.
4) Stray Kids: Back Door. Unexpected structure. Unexpected bass line. Different but at the same time it’s still got the same DNA as every SKZ track before it. I think they’re just scrappy and that’s what this sounds like: a scrappy fun party. It sounds better on second listen, after you’ve left it for a few days. It’s also infinitely better as an audio track without the (very) distracting MV. They are often accused of just being ‘KPOP NOISE’ and repetitive but I feel that’s really unfair to the rest of their material. It does sound deceptively (deliberately) like a mess but there is a structure there and I think the production on it is tight. The bass line is really everything in this and I haven’t heard someone use it like this for awhile. The choreo matches how aggressive Changbin’s rap and chorus is. It’s fun but aggressive fun. 8/10.
5) Stray Kids: EX. This is my favourite song on the album. Imma let God’s Menu finish but EX might be my new favourite SKZ song of all time. Of All Time. Haha. All jokes aside, Seo Changbin is a both underrated as a songwriter and rapper. I love everything about this track: the heavy crunky guitars, the sweet acoustic guitars, the vocals, the rap delivery, the subject matter (100% can relate), the lyrics, the simple production building into something so cathartic in the end. I really love how toned down/pitched down everything is during the verses before the really mercurial chorus with it’s aggressive shouting. This is well considered songwriting and it reminds me a lot of how Hanbin writes to suit all his members voices. If Back Door is Aggressive Fun then EX is Aggressive Emotional in the best way. On principle, I do not give out full scores so: 9.5/10.

iKON x Teased GF 1
-iKON x Female Reader
- Maknae line: Chanwoo, Junhoe, Donghyuk, Hanbin
a/n: I never know if Hanbin is part of the maknae line or the hyung line hahaha. Also, I know the request say GF and the part with Hanbin isn’t exactly that but you know, they’ll get there eventually so I cheated a little bit (:
Tumblr media
Chanwoo:
Tumblr media
From day one, Chanwoo had always admired your work ethic and how passionate you are with every performance. Being a maknae and having debuted not too long after your group, he remembered himself staring in awe, watching performance after performance on the small screen on his phone during break or after a long torturous training session. You had always took his breath away, entranced him with how fierce you look and how strong your stage persona is. He used to think you could probably take down a whole herd of zombie all on your own if it comes down to it...
Staring at you now, squirming on the floor whining like a cat at your older members to stop tickling you, he’s not so sure about the zombie thing anymore. You were rolling around in your pink pajama set with bunny prints on it while swatting the pairs of hands digging into your sides and armpits. You glare over his way, large body comfortably making the couch that normally fit three of your members at once looking like a throne befitting of a king. He stays quiet, a chillingly handsome grin playing on his lips as he stare straight at the scene playing out without uttering a single word to defend you.
He had gotten used to your cute side, which came to him as a surprise because really, who would’ve thought the world between the performer and the real you was so vast. He was so scared meeting you for the first time thinking the resting bitch face, the ice cold glare were all part of the experience but he couldn’t be more wrong. Hanbin had mentioned to him your group waiting room was just next door and he hoped with all his might that he could see you, itching for just a glance with the 10th bathroom break he had taken in the hour. By the time iKON had taken their stage, Chanwoo had given up of his chance to see you in real life. Yet as the sweaty boys, still elated with the adrenaline given by thousands screaming fans sauntering their way down the hall, a loud kitten liked yelp had stolen the heavy pants right out of their chests.
“Oh my God, it’s iKon!”
You had come running smiling brighter than the freaking sun, eyes beaming with amazement, excitement coursing through your veins from the nervous seal clap ringing through the empty hall. Recalling it now, he swore you could’ve bounce right off the wall if you wanted to. Your leader trailed not too far behind, hand rubbing her nose bridge like a mother watching her kid mortifying outburst in public. At the sight of a senior group, the boys all immediately bowed deeply saying a polite hello. The second you noticed they had heard your antic, you hid behind your leader and the other members in embarrassment.
“Hello, we really enjoyed your stage tonight.” Your leader started to speak but Chanwoo could only kept his eyes on your shy ones still timidly playing hide and seek behind your members. He caught you peeking his way and broke out in a soft smile, chuckling a bit when you stick your hand out and did a little wave at him. You took all his breath away once more but for a very different reason.
The rest was a blur because now he was sitting in your dorm living room as if he had always belonged here. How could someone be so intimidating on stage be softer than a baby cat in real life, he didn’t know, and honestly, Chanwoo really couldn’t careless. He loves the way you interact with your own members. How you’d rub up to the oldest two as if they’re your parents, or cheekily pulling prank at the ones you know will never get mad at you. Needless to say, your cry for help hit deaf ears as he sit there giggling at how much badass Y/n struggling to get away from her gentle older sisters. It’s adorable to the max the way you whine his name asking him to use his giant body to shield you then only frown when he just watches.
“Jung Chanwoo, don’t you dare help her. We’ll change the passcode on the door if you do. You’ll never see her again!” Your older members warns him from the sideline.
“I wouldn’t dream of it, noona. I’m still scare of you guys.” He replies, reveling in your pouty lips and twinkling eyes before you break out in painful laughter.
“That’s right. You hear that, maknae. You’re so dead now, switching out my regular tea for a flavored one. You know I despise peach with a passion.”
When she finally let you go after the 10 millionth apology, you huff away to your room leaving him giggling in the living room at your cute anger. You mutter for him to go away but who can struggle against a giant teddy bear using all his strength to hug away whatever anger might be lingering. He presses kisses everywhere, apologizing for not helping.
“I’m sorry, babe. You know your leader is scarier than Hanbin and Jiwon hyung combined. I’ll make it up to you. Come on, stop frowning. Don’t be mad. You know I love watching you having fun with your sisters.”
“No, you’re a jerk. I was not having fun. Tickling used to be a torture method back in ye olden days you know.” You grumble, crossing your arms in total annoyance.
“What if I take you to dinner, then milk tea after, theeeen I’ll let you onto my evil-maknae secrets.” Lips mirroring your pouts, he nudges your cheek with his nose before pressing a big kiss.
“Fine! I’m doing it for the milk tea.” You finally relent to his love, returning the kisses  and wrapping your arms around his torso as he sighs softly thinking your pouty lips will be the death of him.
Junhoe:
Tumblr media
At the chance of a rare long break, all your members packed up with plans of going home before the management change their mind. Well... all, except you. Just so happened your parents had decided to take a long trip for their 25th anniversary leaving you with nowhere to go, and no place to be. Grumpy and sad, you called Junhoe and much to your delight, he had learned of this news long before the words had gotten to you. As a way to make up for the endless failed dates and never having enough time to even hug you properly, Junhoe had planned a whole fun filled week. You’d be lying if guilt isn’t the first thing on your mind watching his eyes glossing over in sorrow as if the distant and time apart was entirely his fault. Hell, he’s not even at fault, this lifestyle you’ve both chosen... There’s no telling what the future hold even if your hearts are in the right place.
It was suppose to be a peaceful day for Junhoe and yourself. Nothing but relaxation after months long of grueling tour for him and promotion for you. At least it had started out that way... He had arrived bright and early with a big smile on his lips and coffees in hands. Running straight into his arms, you could sense all the sadness from feeling left out watching all your member packing for their trip dissipated slowly with the small fleet of kisses he’s planting along your cheeks and hair.
“Ugh, gross. You two better not be doing things I wouldn’t do when we’re all gone.”  As always, being the second youngest in the group, she’ll take any chance she gets at teasing you because well, you’re the only one she could pick on without consequences. She winked, grabbing her phone from the coffee table in the living room.
“UNNIE, NO!”  You yelped loudly, face instantly heating up like a volcano.
“You know they will. Just please, not on the dinning table or the couch or anything in the public area. We eat and enjoy wholesome family activities here. We’d like to keep it clean.” Your second oldest whizzed by, hands gesturing to the spacious living room resembling much of the cargo hold of a plane at the moment, luggages strewn messily across the floor.
“OH MY GOD! Can you guys stop?" You groaned loudy, earning a glare from the two. “Please?” You added as you dug your face deeper into Junhoe’s chest, feeling it rumbled under the hearty chuckle he was heaving. You couldn’t care for any of the teasing at the moment, not with the way his arms were slowing constricting tighter around your body. Neither of you had seen much of each other the past few months with him constantly flying in and out to Japan, you yourself were constantly at shoots or doing music shows. Although you couldn’t deny the way every inch of your skin slowly burning from embarrassment.
“What? We were just saying you know, make good choices. Don’t do drug, don’t drink then barf all over the living room. The carpet is very expensive you know. If you spill wine or kimchi chigae all over the white rug, leader will kill you. You’re the one getting all red and defensive for no reason. Gutter mind! Is she always this dirty minded around you too, Junhoe?”
By the smug look and smirks proudly donned on their faces, you knew you lost the battle. Normally you’d be too aware, too sarcastic and witty for them to get the better of you. Try as they might, you always have a comeback. This time, you knew you were royally screwed by how hard they’re laughing. You got so wrapped up in the comfort provided by the boy who was laughing his ass off instead of helping you that your defend was shot.
“June~ help me~~~~” Instead of coming to your aid, Junhoe still just stood there laughing along with your older members.
“Ah! she’s mild around me, noona. She’s like a puppy, just give her food and she’ll be happy.” He quipped, winking at your members who were now practically rolling laughing on the floor.
“MILD?! MILD?!!!! I’LL SHOW Y’ALL MILD.” You screeched, nearly blowing everyone ears off before huffing away.
“Oh no, we’re in trouble now. She’s getting the leader.” Feigning fear, the younger retorted while wiping off a tear falling from her eyes from laughing so hard while the older one giving Junhoe a thumb up for getting under your skin. Sure enough, you came back not even a minute later, tucked under the leader’s arm with a frown on your face. She hugged you tight before glaring back at the other two still wheezing in tear.
“Alright, cut it off you two. She’s gonna cry if you don’t stop.” At the fearsome leader’s words, the two members shut up quick, although still snickering a bit under their breath. Meanwhile, Junhoe just sat back on the dinning chair enjoying the whole show. He’s loving the fact that his sassy girlfriend finally got one up at her own game. “Finish packing, managers is gonna be here to pick us up soon. You two haven’t finished cleaning your room yet, do that after packing.” You grinned smugly listening to the leader barking order at the now frowning members eyeing their messy room through the ajar bedroom’s door. You stuck your tongue out at them to which they return the favor with an irritation note to their expression. “ You missy...” Your eyes immediately on the eldest now. “...Keep our room clean when I’m gone. Keep the nasty business in the bedroom BUT on your OWN bed only, got it? I don’t need you having sex on my desk either, I compose on there. The last thing I need is to have that images intruding my writing process.” She said without missing a beat with a well placed shudder at the word “images”. Your jaw nearly dropped at the leader who usually baby you through everything. You withdrawn your arms immediately before clutching your heart dramatically. The booming laughter of the other two and your boyfriend shook the whole building like an earthquake.
“Leader-nim, how could you?” You backed away, straight into Junhoe’s body with a loud “oof” before he reached out and engulfed your body into his embrace once again.
“Okay, she’s going to cry for real now. Noona, you guys get to leave but I’m dealing with her for a whole week without any help. She’s already whining enough about you guys leaving, let’s cut her some slack.” He pressed a kiss to the crown of your head to which you swat away unsuccessfully.
“Sorry baby maknae, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity. It’s not often you got no witty response.”
You gave them a disgusted glare before pushing Junhoe off your body. Sulking in the corner, you didn’t even bother saying bye when the managers came and whisked all your member away. You gave a small peace sign when all three waved bye to which they simply laughed before heading off.
Alone now, you stood up dragging Junhoe toward the door before futilely shoving him out into the hall. He firmly planted his feet to the ground and no matter how much effort you exerted, he wouldn’t budge.
“Okay, come on babe. They were just having a little fun.”
“Go away. I hate you. You were no help.”
“I’m sorry, okay? You’re so cute when you sulk. What if I say my super secret plan for this week involve the beach?”
“You’re still not staying. Also, I’m breaking up with you.”
“It also involve the animal conservation... and I may or may not have gotten special VIP passes to pet the meerkats and the panda... I won’t say whose name is on the passes, all I know is she’s my girlfriend...” He mused the plan out loud, watching your brows slowly diffused from their previously furrowed position.
“Fine, you can stay.” He nearly passed out laughing from how fast you changed your mind while you pulled him back inside before shutting the door.
“Did I tell you? You look super adorable when you’re angry.”
“Yes, and don’t push your luck.”
Donghyuk:
Tumblr media
Dusk was approaching fast as Donghyuk sat in the back of his manager’s car gazing aimlessly at the cloud rolling by above. Normally the ride home from practice would be in a van with 6 other noisy, sweat slicked boys but today was Tuesday. Tuesdays are special in Donghyuk’s heart because it’s the designated date day. Now it doesn’t happen every single Tuesday, not even every other one. Sometimes it doesn’t even happen once in a whole month. It happened whenever neither you nor him have obligation and damn sure every time it did, it was special. Donghyuk had a gentle grin on his lips, his drowsy eyes fell upon the large box sitting neatly just next to him. In the month he hadn’t seen you other than on the screen of his phone, he had gathered up quite the collection of gifts for you to be drown in. Of course you can afford to buy these things on your own and damn sure you weren’t with him because he buys you gifts but it still bring him great joy to shower you in tokens of his love. Hand patting the box gently, he leaned back for a quick shut eyes knowing you deserve every second of his attention. Just as his eyes flutter shut, the car suddenly halted and trepidation grew steady in his heart after a full 5 minutes of complete stand still.
Tumblr media
Shoving his phone back in his pocket, he smiled sleepily at the image of you sitting so patiently waiting for him. It warmed his heart to know no matter what, you’d always be positive.
Another hour had gone by and Donghyuk finally found himself once more fixing his appearance in the mirror of the elevator he had long made acquaintance with. Foot tapping to a high rhythmic beat, time suddenly felt to tick by so slow as he watched the red light dances from one button to another, taking its sweet sweet time to painstakingly reach number 19. With a ding, Donghyuk rushed out of the still widening door and bolted straight to your door. Just then he caught the other members in your group giggling their way down the hall for dinner. He bowed respectfully but they resorted to hugging him instead. All your older members love the way your boyfriend could take care of you in area they couldn’t. Being the last member added onto the team, you shy away from sharing your true feeling fearing crossing the line, breaking the bond that had formed so long before. Watching the way Donghyuk could coax that bubbly personality out of your usually quiet and timid facade lighten the loads on them.
His fingers trembled with excitement as your leader hastily punching in the all too familiar 6 digits code to your front door. Pushing in, he settled the large box on the floor, eyes grew with eagerness to adore out the lines of your feature. By the sheer amount of emojis you had sent him, you were just as anxious to see him if not more. He was surprised, a bit disappointed even that you didn’t jump into his arms as you always did.
“Y/n, baby? Where are you?” He called out gently, although his feet already knew where they needed to go. He made his way toward the only room with light shone under the crack of the closed door. The knob turned slowly to reveal you sitting on your bed, knees flushed tight against your chest, head buried. His smile faltered, sadden sigh dropped as he realized the shiver in your retreated form wasn’t from the weather. What could’ve happened in the hour he was stuck in traffic. You were so happy, so you just awhile ago.
Sinking his weight onto your small but packed full of plushies bed, he wrapped an arm around your shaky shoulder. Instinctively, your head dug deep into the softness of his sweater, soul lost in his scent.
“I’m sorry... I, I didn’t mean for you to see this.”
“It’s alright, baby. What’s wrong?”
His hands quick to assume their job of caressing your hair and shoulders, spreading comfort and warmth. You’ve had boyfriends, but never before have you experienced the kind of love Donghyuk gives. The way he loves and cares for you, there isn’t a moment you don’t count your luck.
“Hmm... It’s nothing...”
The dismal whisper left your lips in a huff of air so heavy you wonder if Donghyuk had even heard it before it sunk straight to the hell of lies.
“Uh uh, my princess is crying. That’s definitely something in my book. Let me help you. What did I say about hiding your feelings?”
His soft words and gentle voice could coax you into robbing a bank if it really comes down to it. You knew you could never hold out on Donghyuk... It’s not like you really want to anyways so you avert your eyes out of shame before baring it all for him to see.
“It’s just, I feel like I’m worthless sometimes... Like I’m a big baby that can’t do anything...” You nearly choked on every syllable.
“No, you definitely are not worthless so don’t you dare say things that’s even more preposterous than an otter riding a unicorn. You spent just as much effort as the next person to get where you got to today. I won’t let you talk yourself down like that. Now, did something happened with your members?”
You let yourself reveled in the way his hands cupping your cheeks so gingerly, eyes longingly gazing, hoping for your soul to open up and joined his, then maybe, just maybe you’d see yourself the way he sees you.
“It’s just, I-I keep messing up on our new dance so they teased me about it.”
“You know your members love joking around. They don’t mean it, baby. The boys and I joke all the time too when we learn new dances. They even told me in the hallway to take you out for some good food earlier cause you worked so hard.”
Currently rubbing gentle circles into your tear stained cheeks, a timid peck found itself on your quivering lips, he was doing his best to sooth away every bit of doubt still bitter on your cracked, chapped lips.
“But that’s the thing. That’s all I do... I just make them worry and carry all the weight. I don’t even do anything.”
“Listen...” You winced at the way his lungs expeled the deep heavy sigh. “I love you even if you were worthless. However! You are anything but worthless, alright love. You stayed up later than every one else practicing when that article criticizing you came out.” A chaste kiss fluttered its wings on your forehead, "You spent hours meal prepping every night for all the member because the company wanted you all to get fit for the comeback. On top of that, you’re our little mood maker. When have you not made us laugh with your silly little joke. Even the weird noises you make when you’re too happy seeing food. All of that, we all love it, me and your members. The reason we baby you is because that’s it, you’re our wee baby. You had to grow up way too fast, struggling with school, with this job. I know you don’t say it but at night you’d go check on everyone, making sure they sleep well, putting blanket on them... When you’re with me, never once did you complain when I canceled dates or when I had to stay at the studio later than I thought. You’re sweet, compassionate, loving, caring, what more do you want, baby? On top of it all, you’re this little cutie who sings her heart out and somehow mesmerizes me every single time. I’ve known you for what? a good 5 years now, 2 years since I got to call you mine. I look forward to hear you sing and dance every time. You, missy, are not worthless.” His worries transformed itself into a beautiful speech from the heart. He was so fervent with emotion that he failed to realize your tears were streaming once more, this time in the highest of happiness. Pulling away from the crook of his neck, kisses in exchanged for everything he had done.
“Yah, why are you still crying... What are you thanking me for...”
“I’m just happy, I can’t control it. I love you, Donghyuk. I can’t say enough how lucky I am to have someone like you supporting me.”
With a gentle tug on your shoulder, he pulled you against his firm chest hearty with a giggle, elated that once again he managed to lighten your weary heart.

Hanbin:
Tumblr media
Hanbin was whipped the second his eyes met yours, a bit breathless and smile brighter than the stage lights shining so prettily on your cherry red lips. It was quite literally just mere minutes ago that his eyes were glued to the small screen inside their waiting room, mesmerized by the performance of your group. The boys had been delighted, monitoring each and every performance of the night carefully for this had been the first time back on stage in a very long time. Songs after songs, upbeat tune to sorrowful ballad, Hanbin kept his eyes trained on the screen, listening and noting carefully the talent of fellows writers. Yet the moment the first note of that jazzy tune, your jazzy tune hit his ears, Hanbin found himself lost, when your leader belted out the powerful lyrics accompany by the soulful harmony of the other members, his mind was delighted. His feet tapping, shoulders unknowingly to him began to sway to the catchy beats. Then the world melted, it was as if he was the only person left in this entire world and in possession of the front row seat to your show. He was mesmerized, mind gone blank from the playful rap to your intricate footwork. The producer in the back of his mind thought of the many things he’d say to you, the advice he’d give for your improvement... You’ve piqued his interest.
One could only imagine the shock his brain and heart had received when those soft knocks and polite greeting emanating through the waiting room’s door turned out to be yours. It was only by the 3rd call for his name by Chanwoo and the 10 millionth rough poke into the tenderness of his side that Hanbin had awaken. Stammering and going a bit red in the cheeks no doubt, he cussed mentally at what a total idiot he had been in the face of his interest. However, all that was lost the moment he gazed upon your features to find an adorable smile, shy and sweet but it was definitely directing his way. Your hair a bit wind blown and makeup worn but you still looked so perfect. Bobby had taken over, exchanging greeting in place of iKON still moonstruck leader, eyes dashing about, lingering on you just a tad bit longer than everyone else. But as seconds ticked by, your short courtesy greeting had ended and even though your goodbye just as sprightly and cheerful as ever, regrets engulfed the leader who had spent the time in silent, not abled to muster up enough courage to say a word to you despite the storm in his mind.
The next few times you’ve met were only in passing, nevertheless, it shook his heart all the same even if quick bows and lingering smiles were all that were exchanged between the both of you. Hanbin paid even closer attention to your stage and somewhere deep inside his heart, he hoped you do the same with iKON’s stage. He had wrecked his brain to find a reason why he’d need to speak to you but none availed and on the last week of your promotional period, he had given up.
“Hey, maknae, are you day dreaming of Hanbin again??”
His feet halted to a smoking, screeching stop at the sound of his name. He wasn’t a nosy person, not at all, but what else could he do but hide and pray that whoever had just spoken his name wouldn’t find out he was mere feet away, lurking around the corner.
You damn near spat your water, snorting it out of your nose, and choking on it simultaneously at the sound of your leader’s calling. Like a deer caught in headlight, you could barely get a word out before the older members were snickering amongst themselves, faint whisper of his name could be heard.
“N-No... What are you talking about?”
“Kid, you don’t have to hide it. We all know about your little crush on a certain leader.” Their teasing continue no matter how much you protest, your words falling on deaf ears.
He wanted to so badly, just peek his head out to see the owner of that sweet shy voice but every ounce of his brain was screaming that wasn’t a smart idea. Even if his brain had told him yes, his body betrayed him, ignoring his every command for it to move because the voices only grew louder.
“Stop it. I don’t- I don’t even. He doesn’t even know I exist anyways.”
“Oh please, have you seen how he looked at you. And anyways, if you don’t like Hanbin, why does it matter if he know you exist or not?”
This is wrong, so so wrong on so so many levels but Hanbin couldn’t, can’t move now. He wanted so dearly to put a face to the angel voice yet there was no way in hell this encounter would turn out well.
“I didn’t say I don’t like him-” Your voice stolen right out of your exhausted lungs, the water bottle cradling so snugly in your hand like a meteor crashing onto the floor splashing its content with reckless abandoned. Your eyes widen in shock but they were no match to the blown out pair staring right back at you. For the next moment there was nothing but silent, your members silenced themselves out of shock and guilt, you’ve gone mute, never before had you experienced this kind of embarrassment. So you ran, ran as fast as your spent legs could carry you, tears running down your cheeks. You didn’t realized where your body had decided to transport you but the next moment your eyes were met with the concern stricken ones of your manager. The worst part was over, or so you had thought as your body crashed right into the softness of the black leather couch.
“Please don’t cry...” Had it not for the soft caressing of his hand on yours, you’d have thought it that gentle voice soothing away the tension of your heart was a mere hallucination.
You couldn’t bear looking at him, so you stared at the large hand covering yours, thumb softly smoothing over the dips and curves of your own. He sat there with you in silent, not a word was said yet strangely enough, you were content. When the last sniffle, leftover of your mortifying experience had disappeared into the air, Hanbin once more cooed softly.
“If it makes you feel any better, the boys had been teasing me relentlessly too...” The sudden uttering of a surprise “what?!” and the light speed whipping of your attention toward his stammering self caught Hanbin off guard, an adorable sheepish smile bloomed on his lips. “They’re a lot meaner than your members.”
“I-I don’t understand.”
“They, uhm, this is so embarrassing...” He paused and for a second, it was the first time you’ve both laid eyes on each other again. No thought racing through your brain, no hidden words, just two people enjoying the moment.
“More embarrassing than what I just did?” You were first to break away, no longer able to cope with the overwhelming feeling rising fast in your chest.
“I-, you’ve won there.” He sighed gently, “They caught me watching your fancam... And I haven’t been able to have a moment of peace since.”
“Oh no... I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be, all worth it.” Embolden by the little grin playing on your soft lips, your heavenly soft lips that he bet would taste like heaven, Hanbin forced himself to look away before he could do something stupid. “What’s your story?”
“I, I guess I talked about you way too much. I didn’t think I was, but I guess I did. I don’t know, it’s just you’re so amazing and like, have you heard your song? Of course you did, you wrote them. I’ve always wanted to work with you and I looked to your lyrics a lot for inspiration.  Anyways, they say I gushed about you too much but I just thought someone that talented should be worship the way he deserve. And like, you’ve always just been a celebrity to me, you know, just someone I see on TV but then I met you. You’re totally way cuter in person and-” You bit your lips shut, the curse of the nervous ramble had once again struck you, always at the worst time possible. All your deepest thoughts had ushered out in one big giant ball of embarrassment, and to top it all off, right in front of Hanbin.
“And? come one, I wanna hear the rest of it.” His hand nudged yours, a teasing smirk bright on his lips as you ducked your head in shame.
“Don’t tease me...” You sighed, wanting nothing more but to disappear into the depth of the Earth, feet already priming themselves to run away one more time. Hanbin refused to let you disappear from his grasp again so he did the only thing his blissful brain could think of, he pulled you into a tight embrace.
“You’re too cute, you know that? How bout we start with exchanging phone numbers... You know, for work purposes?” He winked and you were winded. “Let’s talk to our managers and just figure things out from there?”
“I’d like that.” You nuzzled back into the crook of his neck and Hanbin felt as if he had just crash-landed right into heaven. For the next few minutes, the comforting silent of hearts at the beginning of something new, shyly embarking on a journey that hopefully in the end, they’ll be beating as one. His arms never left your body and although not brave enough to press a kiss onto your cheek, his thumb would occasionally stroked the rosy skin.
“If you do not want to be running through choreography for all our songs tonight instead of a bbq dinner and a goodnight rest, I’d suggest you take your ears off of the door in the next few seconds.” He suddenly spoke up and a scramble of footfall and chaotic loud whispers could be heart through the door. You both shared your last moment giggling, lamenting about the chaos filled future of 6 boys and 4 girls always be earshot away, pretending as though they didn’t spend the last hour eavesdropping.

Just Chanwoo Things
THIS SAVAGE LIL MAKNAE OF IKON XD Chanwoo really has no filter but is still as “innocent” as the others. Even though he came in during their Mix & Match show, now he is welcomed of course and iKon loves their child. (gifs are obviously not mine)
Tumblr media
It’s momma Jinhwan, father Hanbin, TWIN FREAKIN BROTHER YUNHYEONG, AND THEN THE MEMBERS WHO ARE ALL RASCALS WITH CHANWOO. THEY BASICALLY PRODUCED THIS SAVAGE BOY. At first, he was afraid of Hanbin, but obviously, that has changed for the better <3. But when he does leave his room a mess, he usually gets hit by Yunhyeong....(mentioned on weekly idol).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really really really want him to have more lines, his bridge in iKon is like my favorite part cause you can just walk down the street brushing shit off your shoulder. His voice has grown so much and I’M LOVING EVERY BIT OF IT. AND THEN HE WAS IN BOYS OVER FLOWERS AND DRAMAS?! BOY PLEASE I NEED SOME WATER CAUSE I’M THIRSTY.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The boys have basically tainted an innocent soul and have turned him into a straight up savage. Even though he is a savage, he is still the nice maknae of iKon. He never got to experience team B’s struggle during WIN but, iKon and iKonics know that Chanwoo will always be with them through and through. He may seem quiet but once you get him going....yup doesn’t stop.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chanwoo is basically someone you want to hug for a very long time and just sit there...hugging him <3. Even though he has insecurities about his dark skin and “baby fat”, he pushes through it and performs and practices to his heart's content. Being the youngest is not easy in a kpop group, I have so much respect for him. THE BIG LITTLE MAKNAE OF IKON, HE HAS A LOT TO GIVE. He adores his hyungs but also has to slip in a joke from time to time xD. What good maknae wouldn’t? You just have to see through his tough exterior in order to get the full image of Jung Chanwoo, the bubbly savage maknae who truly respects and loves his hyungs as much as they love him. YOU ARE GROWING UP SO FAST CHANWOO (even though he is older than me) YOU ARE JUST SO LOVELY AND YOU ARE DOING EXTRAORDINARY THINGS. SLEEP AND EAT WELL <3.
(iKonics ADD MORE :D)

iKON's MAKNAE: JUNG CHANWOO  Appreciation thread
@/bianxstan on Twitter -  8:33 PM - 26 Dec 2018
I just want to warn those who are reading this. If you're an OT6 fan, pls feel free to unfollow me and pls do not interact w/ anything related to this thread i.e. don't reply and don't quote RT. We don't need that negativity.
Tumblr media
The world is already cruel enough for all of us. Spare us the dramatics. I am tired of defending #Chanwoo from all of you. Though I'm tired of it, pls know that I won't stop doing it. So please allow me to spread love to others without your negativity tainting it. Here we go.
~
When M&M happened, I had no doubt in my mind that Chanwoo will be iKON's 7th member. I was as sure of it as I was that all OT6 will be in iKON. There was something abt him that captivated me. He wasn't the most talented or the most eye-catching. He wasn't even the most talkative.
~
However, Jung Chanwoo was the only person who was introduced in the show that, imho, was considerate towards what OT6 was going through. He realized that he's piercing through a bond that's so strong that his introduction to the group would not be received well and so he waited.

CHAN WOO only smiles, perplexed
B.I. - CHAN WOO, what are your thoughts on this?
Chanwoo - I like the song
~
From the very beginning, Chanwoo has always been the kind of person who refuses to be a burden. He wants to stand with his own two feet. He refuses to be acknowledged just because Hanbin was a great leader.

Pictures of Chanwoo wiping away tears in the practice room
~
I love Chanwoo because he's always been self-aware of his capabilities and his position in the group. When faced with frustrations of things not going well, he recognizes the fact that compared to the others, he is lacking. He did not hide. He did not cower.

Chanwoo:
To be honest, I’m quite disappointed
about the fact that I’m not good.
and that I’m a burden.
I know I can do this but I’m not doing as well as I thought.
~
What he did was he stayed behind in the practice room to catch up to the groupmates he's pulling behind. His sense of self-accomplishment was strong enough to push him to do well and to prevent himself from lingering at the bottom line.

Chanwoo: They said it would be a very difficult journey
and told me to brace myself.
So I’m not gonna give up even if it becomes really hard.
~
One of the reasons why Chanwoo blended in so well at that time was because Chanwoo, who was an outsider, already shared the same fierce determination and thirst for improvement that the OT6 was identified with.

Chanwoo: I’m so disappointed.
Chanwoo: I don’t want him to think I’m not good enough.

Narrator: Chanwoo is practicing alone till late at night.
He worked so hard to be acknowledged for his effort. He finally did in EP 6. But what squeezed my heart about that episode was the fact that Chanwoo shed tears because despite his efforts up to that point, he can't be fully happy while taking YOYO's spot.
Tumblr media
~
He wasn't even at the bottom three at that time & yet he felt so bad taking a spot from the OT6. I realized at the end that he must have felt guilty since he'd always felt incapable. He must've thought that despite his efforts, someone else still deserves it more than he did.
~
At that moment, I thought to myself: "If there is anyone that should be with the OT6, it'll be Chanwoo." Because this kid has enough heart and empathy to realize that his success could be someone's failure in OT6.
~
To me, a person w/ the kind of attitude to set aside self-greed to feel for those around him will seamlessly mold himself in the tenacious wall that OT6 have built around themselves. Because OT6 reached that far by thinking of the well-being of their members than themselves.
~
However, his anxiety and worry continue even after debut. After all, it can't be denied that their debut in 2015 means that Chanwoo only had over a year of professional training. He only had abt year to completely blend himself in the team.

“will I be able to fit in?” “Won’t I just be a burden to them?”
“will the fans acknowledge me?” “Everyday I was feeling anxious and worried”
“And I promised myself, I have to debut in iKON and show them”
“my cool side to repay them”
~
People don't realize that #CHANWOO has YEARS to catch up to when it comes to training. If you're a true iKONIC, you should've realized that Chanwoo was able to improve this much despite the huge time differential of training compared to others.

B.I. - Let’s do it more seriously.
B.I - One more time.
B.I - One more time.

B.I - You turn your arm like this here.
~
Do you guys ever think about how much he had to work harder to not be the black hole in iKON? Do you ever think about the humiliation and disappointment he must have felt each time he practice one-on-one with Hanbin?

CW: We checked all the flow lines and then we checked the dance matching along with the music.
CW: As you can see, we are practicing one by one with B.I.
CW: It’s also like this for around a month in Korea.
~
Each session must've felt like a harsh slap of realization of what level his skills are compared to the others. This was taken just a year ago. Many would think that a debuted idol wouldn't work this hard. But Chanwoo isn't like that. He knows his goals & he WILL pursue them.

CW: There is no shyness
CW: Even though I am embarrassed, but if I don’t work hard we can’t do it.
CW: I’m thankful for B.I-hyung who is monitoring closely.
CW: I’ll work hard.
~
I've said this before. I hate people who count lines per member. Line allocation will never equate to song quality. Hanbin giving lines not suited to Chanwoo's skills will only be detrimental to him. But does Chanwoo deliver? YES HE DOES!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tweet Citation and Photo Caption:
The utilization of the colourful vocal tones of the members allows a portrayal of different kinds of heartache. #CHANWOO didn’t get a ton of lines but I’m not disappointed. Line distribution is about how you deliver those lines. Chanwoo delivered a tenfold of emotions. #iKON
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
~
The way #CHANWOO opened the song with his low melancholic tone just hits you straight to the heart. It wasn’t extravagant; it was impactful. It was subdued, almost too passively, but that’s what one goes through during a break up. You can’t do anything but accept it.
~
At the bridge, when all the instrumentals were stripped down to almost nothing, I cried bec of the weight of emotions delivered within those two lines. #Chanwoo ’s part was the culmination of all the emotions depicted in this song’s narrative. His voice is just perfect for that.

Can also be found in ‘Goodbye Road’ Song Analysis Thread:
https://wereikonics.tumblr.com/post/184634621843/goodbye-road-song-analysis
I want people to realize that #Chanwoo was able to perform this well because he did not sit on his ass all day long playing games. Nobody else knows more than Chanwoo himself how much he is lacking compared to the others. We all have only seen a glimpse of his talents.
~
I want to remind you that this year's releases were mostly written in 2015. We have yet to fully taste what these boys have to offer years after 2015. Don't get stuck on what could've been. It's been 4 years since the show.
~
Ask yourselves this: in any of iKON's dance practice videos, was there ever a moment when Chanwoo was a blackhole? As a matter of fact, Jinhwan makes more mistakes on choreo than Chanwoo ever did. This boy did not get on stage despite his injuries just for you to discredit him.
~
This boy did not get into iKON because of pity. He didn't get on that stage because he was forced to. He worked his ass off day in and day out knowing that his lack of skills could be harmful for the rest of them. But even when that fear lingers, he didn't let it foster.
~
Though Chanwoo has this fear, he would never beg for lines from Hanbin. Hanbin allows this because this is the only way Chanwoo will truly improve and genuinely feel accomplished. There is no shortcut to success.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photo Caption: iKON on Weekly Idol
Chanwoo is speaking to Hanbin while they are holding hands
CW: This is what I want to say.
CW: I’m not good which is why I have a small part.
Yunhyeong points toward Hanbin as he looks to Chanwoo
Yunhyeong: Tell him now that you want bigger parts
CW: I’ll work harder
~
So before you question Chanwoo's work etiquette, I want you to think about the position you're in. Because at this moment, as you write those comments discrediting Chanwoo's hard work, it isn't his ass sat on a chair with your face buried in front of a computer.
~
I'm ending this thread with Chanwoo's poem. Because I want people to realized that regardless of how much hate you throw, we're all just trying our best to live on. We're all on the same ground. You're not special.

If you're truly a fan of iKON, you would understand why it's hard for Chanwoo to bring his members to film for his YT. Chanwoo is a very considerate person. He would never do anything to make someone uncomfortable.
~
Besides, he knows how it feels like for the members because he lives the same lifestyle. Also, the members are not selfish to refuse to go on Chanwoo's channel. They help him out when he asks. So please, give Chanwoo the freedom to film whatever he wants with whoever he wants.
Please subscribe to Chanwoo’s YT Channel if you haven’t already

Cloudy With A Chance
Part 11: …of Apple Pi.
Masterlist
Maybe in a movie Jiwon would’ve kissed Hanbin as they walked along the Han River after the Exhibition. Maybe they would’ve linked hands nervously and heard 90s RnB music playing faintly in the distance as a light breeze ruffles through Hanbin’s hair.
But none of that actually happens. Out of the corner of his eye, Jiwon saw the moment come….then he watched it go, floating away with an apologetic shrug.
He’s okay with it. They’re hungry, tired and uncomfortable in their clothes so instead of being in a movie they sit under the bridge in untucked shirts and rolled up sleeves, passing plates of food and bubble tea between them, talking easily about rap songs, tattoo plans and how to deal with the fact that Donghyuk politely threatened him at the gallery (answer: when the time comes, move to Mexico if grovelling and bribery don’t work.)
There were too many people around for them to do anything else but even when they were alone, nothing happened. Even when he gets caught staring at Hanbin’s mouth as it sucks on the straw. Even with the dim light offering some cover. Even then, with the opportunity flashing at him in neon lights, nothing happened. He just took an extra big mouthful of chocolate waffle as Hanbin smiled around his straw.
But it’s okay. It’s okay, he tells himself. It will happen when it happens.
He tries not to be too disappointed when they don’t kiss goodnight either. Instead, he watches Hanbin stumble out the car, dragging his black blazer haphazardly behind him and yawning repeatedly.
“Thanks for tonight. It was good.” Hanbin says through the car window. “Maybe the next time we hang out there will be less people around though?”
“With less interrogations and threats?” He adds.
“Yeah.”
“Next time it’ll just be me and you.”
“Okay.” Hanbin yawns as he leans heavily against the passenger window. “I better go, otherwise I’ll just sleep in your car.”
Jiwon honestly wouldn’t even mind but he knows it’s probably a bit too early for that sort of thing.
“Go. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
Hanbin nods and rubs his eyes. It’s a move that makes him look much younger than his 25 years and Jiwon gets the urge to hug him to his chest. The fiery Hanbin is all smart words and sharp teeth that sink into his skin without mercy but the tired, sad and vulnerable Hanbin is something that scares him, not because he can’t handle it (he knows he can) but because it reaches down into his core and drags all of his protective instincts to the surface. He’d probably follow Hanbin straight into Hell if he asked him to and run twice as fast if he didn’t.
“Okay. Well, Goodnight. Thanks for the ride. Drive safely.”
“Night. Sleep well.”
Hanbin waves as he walks towards his apartment, turning back after a few steps to yell out, “Hey, text me when you get home! So I know.”
So I know.
Jiwon wonders what that means exactly. He wonders about it all the way home, right up to the moment when he gets to his door and lets his keys hang in the lock so he can type out a text.
[im home. Didn’t die. Sorry if I woke you. xxj]
He drags himself through a quick shower and throws on some clean boxers before collapsing face down onto his bed. He’s just about to drift off when he hears the muted buzz of his phone next to him.
[good. It’s too much work finding a replacement.]
[im irreplcble. thats hard to spell]
[why don’t you use auto carrot]
[whts that? Spellcheck 4 bunnies?]
[you’d know…. bunny]
[whatever you say princess]
[if you call me that i’m breaking up with you]
[but youre not allowed to]
[I’m falling asleep. Sorry. Text me when you wake up.]
[go sleep. Night. xxj]
[night bunny xxh]
It doesn’t take long to fall asleep after that, not when dreamworld beckons him in with images of dimple smiles, undercuts and rabbits.
He’s still tired when his alarm goes off at 9am but the physical lethargy is offset by the kind of mental optimism that you can only get when your life is on the right track. He stretches out underneath his warm sheets, smiling at the ceiling and watching the sun filter through the gaps in his curtains. His hand smooths over the empty space next to him and he wonders what it might be like if it wasn’t so empty one day.
Somewhere on the other side of Seoul, probably still asleep, is chaos, art and random useless facts all rolled up into a riddle wrapped enigma. But he loves chaos and he loves that that is what he belongs to now. The revelation echoes in his head, the repetition doing nothing to diminish the thrill that he gets every time he thinks about Hanbin. He buries his head into his pillow and groans loudly. When did he get this lame and embarrassing? He would never hear the end of it if June knew the truth.
He should really get up and hit the gym to sweat all this out. But not before he digs around the sheets to find his phone.
[good morning. Guess wat? Didn’t die in the night. Sorry if I woke you xxj]
His cinnamon toast cereal tastes extra sweet this morning as he watches the news and tries to catch the weather report as it scrolls across the bottom of the screen. Outside his door he can hear his apartment block waking up and coming to life, there’s already music playing, a dog barking and a child’s high pitched giggle. Has it always been this idyllic? Maybe he was imagining it. Or maybe this is what life through Rose Tinted sunglasses feels like: one long movie with a happy ending.
He’s pulling on his gym shorts when his phone buzzes with a message alert.
[hey bunny.glad you’re alive. its too early, i’m going back to sleep]
[wait are you free 2moro? I’m going to get roses for rp, want to come?]
[sure ok good night xxh]
[lol okay, btw it’s Sunny today wth the chance of a late cold front. Call me if you get bored. xxj]
It’s 11:30 and he’s just walking out the gym doors when he gets another message.
[there are like 30 different types of cereal in this new store.]
He turns on the handsfree function in his car and dials Hanbin’s number as he pulls out of the car park.
“Are you calling me? Why are you calling me? I’m buying food.” Hanbin says, as if he was completely surprised by the turn of events. “Why is it so noisy?”
“Sorry, I’m driving.”
“Going somewhere? Also: hi.”
“Hey.” It never fails to make him smile, how off kilter conversations with Hanbin can be. “Yeah I just left the gym, going to Yoyo and June’s place now because they’ve got some sort  of car emergency.”
“Oh okay. I’ve got dinner with my parents tonight. I don’t know if I should bring some alcohol or a lot of alcohol.” Hanbin says glumly. “Actually, I don’t think there’s enough alcohol in the world for this.”
“That bad huh?”
He laughs lightly, mainly to be polite, but he really has no idea how they’re going to deal with the parent issue when the time comes. They will probably survive dinner with his parents but he has no idea what they’re going to do about Hanbin’s parents. In the back of his mind, he knows it’s unfair to paint them in a negative light before they’ve even met but at the same time, he’s learnt to never ignore his gut instincts and his gut tells him that it’s going to be difficult at best or a complete disaster.
Hanbin groans on the other end. “They’re going to get on my case about why I’m still apparently a sad single hermit. Maybe pass a few phone numbers my way because they think they’re being helpful.”
“They sound like my parents.”
“Maybe I should just tell them.” Hanbin says quietly but it comes across loud and clear and trips the alarm in his head.
“Hang on a sec.” He quickly finds a spot on a side street to pull over and park. “What do you want to tell them?”
“That I’m not single anymore. It’d be nice to tell them one less lie.” There’s a sad chuckle at the end of it that just makes him want to reach through the phone connection to hug Hanbin tightly.
“Oh. Okay, if you’re sure.” He replies, relieved. “I kinda thought you wanted tell them everything. About you and…me.”
There’s a sharp cackle on the other line, like the idea was beyond comprehension. “I’m feeling brave Jiwon, not suicidal. I don’t know what to do about that at all right now but maybe I can just get them off my back about girlfriends for awhile.”
“Aren’t they gonna want to meet her?”
“Yeah probably.”
“But she doesn’t exist.”
There’s rustling on Hanbin’s end. “Should I get Honey Nut Crunch or Froot Loops?”
The conversational whiplash disorientates him briefly before he catches up with Hanbin’s train of though.
“Froot Loops? No, don’t get that. Froot Loops are so unhealthy. It’s all sugar. Get cinnamon toast cereal. The gluten and sugar free version. That’s the one I have.”
He can practically hear Hanbin’s grimace. “Is it also taste free?”
“No!” He laughs. “It’s really good. I mean, you’re not eating wholemeal bran but at least you’re trying.”
“Well….okay.” Hanbin replies, entirely unconvinced.
“I’ll come over and eat the rest if you hate it.”
“Win-Win situation for you there.” Hanbin says flatly. “Look at how that turned out.”
“Yeah, amazing.” He smiles to himself before his mind returns to what they were talking about before. “So hey, are you really sure you want to just tell your parents? Won’t it create like 10 more problems for you?”
Okay, so he’s selfish. He was looking forward to spending some stress-free time with Hanbin now that everything had settled down. The thought of going through the complicated aspects of their relationship all over again just makes him want to go back to sleep.
“You think I should wait?”
“It’s up to you, Hanbin. If you feel like you want to tell them, then that’s what you should do.” He says, trying to be supportive despite his inner monologue.
“But?”
“But what?”
“You want to say something about it. I can tell.”
“No….it’s your decision.” He says carefully.
There’s a loud sigh. “Jiwon. Just tell me. I’m asking.”
He takes a breath. “Well, I was just thinking that it’s not always a good idea to tell them things like that without having some kind of plan. I mean, at least have a back up girl to help bail you out if they want to meet her last minute. That’s what parents like to do, spring these surprise attacks. It happened to me and look where I am now- still going on pointless church dates.”
There’s a sigh and pause as Hanbin thinks about his words. “Yeah, I guess you’re right. I haven’t thought it through properly.”
He exhales slowly in relief. “Yeah, there will be other chances to tell them.”
“You know this means I’ll probably have to go on some fake dates then? Like you did?”
“It’s okay. Just be really boring. She’ll probably never call you again.”
“Is that what you do?”
Sometimes. I usually just play the friendzone and drop in a few really polarising things. Like wanting 7 kids and moving to an apple orchard. There’s been approximately zero second dates after that.” He says with a laugh.
“Really? That sounds kinda nice though. Well, maybe not seven kids. Maybe four.”
He freezes mid laugh. Hanbin’s earnest consideration of his ridiculous date tactics takes him by surprise.
“I was joking Hanbin.”
“No you weren’t. 50% of all jokes are true.”
There’s no one around but he blushes anyway. “That sounds like something you just made up.”
“It’s legit I swear! I read it somewhere. I bet you really do want to have a bunch of kids on a farm. Right?”
“Maybe.” He says noncommittally.
There’s laughter on the other end. “Knew it. You live in the 1950s but it’s a cute dream to have. I’ll remember to drop something like that on my fake date.”
“Wait a second. You said four kids. You want to have four kids?”
“Yeah. Maybe? One day.”
“Oh. Cool.”
It’s then that his mind does that annoying thing where it takes an idea and fills his head with all sorts of futurescape images. What would Hanbin’s kids look like? What would his kids look like? Does Hanbin think his kids will be their kids? How can he get out of this conversation?
It gives him a headache thinking too far into the future. He never used to think about the details but lately, he catches himself staring at couples with small children and dreaming of scenarios which weren’t so impossible. He’s optimistic but he’s also realistic, there’s a line in the sky and having biological kids was so far beyond the line that it was in the realms of impossible fiction.
“Hey? You still there?”
“Yeah Yeah. I’m still here.”
“I better go. I need to get the shopping done before I go pick up my sister from dance class.”
He breathes out another sigh of relief. He loves talking to Hanbin but there are times when serious topics just sneak up on them and it gets too much, even over the phone.
“Yeah I need to go too. Text me later, about your dinner?”
“Yeah I will.”
“And I guess I’ll come over at like 10 tomorrow? If you still want to come to June’s?”
“Yeah, I’ll be ready.”
“Cool. Okay.” There’s an awkward pause because he’s never been good at saying goodbye. No matter how overwhelming their conversations gets, when the time comes there’s always a part of him that’s reluctant to let go, even if it’s only temporary. “Well umm…”
“Say bye, you loser.” Hanbin laughs on the other end.
“Okay! Fine. BYE.”
“Bye bunny. See you tomorrow.”
“Okay, bye.”
“And now you hang up.”
“Okay.” His finger hovers over the End-Call button but he can’t make himself push it.
“You’re still there.”
“Yup.”
“Okay well, there’s an old lady giving me death glares at the checkout so I really have to go. Bye bunny!”
Hanbin hangs up first. It’s how he prefers their calls to go because there’s something so difficult about hanging up on Hanbin. Or dropping him off and watching him walk away. Or being awake and knowing he’s still sleeping. He tells himself that he’ll be completely fine watching Hanbin go on fake dates but he knows it won’t be that simple when it happens.
Shaking his head, he starts the car to rejoin the flow of traffic.
The sun is setting by the times he gets home from fixing Yoyo’s car and has a second shower to wash off all the sweat and grease. He’s on the couch watching Iron Chef when the phone buzzes on the coffee table.
[pls save me]
[what happened? want me to come get you?]
[i said SAVE ME. not GET ME KILLED]
[how drunk are you]
[not drunk at all]
[tragedy, sorry for your loss]
[i miss you]
The message surprises him with its suddenness. He knows Hanbin can be unpredictable but he’s always taken aback by just how much it knocks him off his feet.
[i miss you too. U ok? Bc i can really come and get you]
[yeah I’m fine. Hanbyul’s distracting them with her ballet trophy.]
[she won something?]
[they give them out to every kid]
[lolz don’t be rude]
[I’m not! It’s the truth. Ahhhh I gotta go. xxh]
[ok call me later. xxj]
It’s midnight and he’s in bed watching the late 24-hour news when his phone lights up next to him.
[are you still up?]
He can’t think of a decent short reply so dials Hanbin’s number instead.
“It was horrible.” Hanbin says as soon as he picks up.
“Wanna tell me all about it?”
“They were on my back for twenty minutes about being a weird recluse and well, long story short, they gave my number to my dad’s business partner’s daughter. So I’m basically fucked, no matter how it ends.”
“Oh…..Shit.”
“Yeah.” Hanbin agrees miserably.
“Well….” He starts, trying to be positive but trailing off when he can’t think of anything to say. Hanbin, on the other hand, has plenty to say.
“It’s so bad. I just know it. If she hates me, she’ll tell her parents. Then they’ll tell my parents. And it might be weird at their company. That will get my dad pissed at me. Again. Even though I don’t even like girls and told them all night that I was too busy to have a relationship! Why do I have to deal with this stupid fucking situation Jiwon? On my list of stupid fucking situations, this would have to be number 1.”
“Are you drunk?”
“A little bit.”
“Are you at home?”
“YES.”
“Okay, good. But listen, don’t worry too much about it Hanbin. We’ll figure something out when it happens.”
“Why can’t we figure it out now?” Hanbin whines.
“Because it’s midnight and she hasn’t called you yet.” He reasons.
“Why can’t you just fix this?!”
He laughs despite their situation. “I promise I’ll think of something. It’ll be okay. I got through them, you will too.”
There’s a heavy dramatic sigh on the other end before Hanbin’s sleepy voice comes through again, this time accompanied by a yawn. “I’m in bed. Tell me something. I don’t want to think about girls anymore.”
“Umm, what do you want to hear?”
“Tell me about your seven kids and apple orchard. What kind of kids are you gonna have? And what kind of apples?”
The request catches him off guard, he didn’t expect this conversation to come back so soon. Or at all.
“Oh. Um. Probably all kinds of apples. I need to do some research on Apple species. You know any Apple experts?”
“I’m an Apple expert. I like the red ones and the Macbook Pro.”
“So helpful. Real expert.”
“Tell me more. I want to fall asleep.”
“Okay. Well. Firstly, no offence, but I’m gonna need an expert who knows more about apples than “red” and “laptop”. I kinda want to live on one of those big properties where the dogs and kids and chickens can run everywhere.  We’ll have to get one of those gigantic country farmhouses with a billion bedrooms because if the kids are gonna be anything like you, they’ll all want their own rooms.”
There’s no protest so he continues.
“I heard you can do a lot with apples though. You eat them, juice them, dry them, make all sorts of stuff with them, including pie! I’m not completely crazy you know. It might be a fake dream but I did attempt some research to make it sound legit.”
“Anyways, it’d be really cool sitting on the back porch and watching the sun set over all the trees. It’ll probably be really quiet and so far away from the city that you could probably see all those galaxies that you’re obsessed with.”
He waits for a response but gets none.
“Hanbin?” When there’s only breathing on the other line, he knows that Hanbin fell asleep. “Well. That’s the dream anyway. Goodnight baby.”
                                                            *
The birds chirp gleefully outside his window but Hanbin wants to die.
Actually, he wants to kill his phone first then follow it straight into hell.
“What?!” He grumbles into the offending device.
“It’s 9am.” Jiwon’s voice comes through, slightly concerned. “You okay? You don’t have to-”
“No. I want to.” He insists, despite his head spinning and his body protesting loudly as he stretches in bed.
“Okay. See you soon.”
He’s hungover and so dizzy that takes him three attempts to open the toothpaste cap and even longer to differentiate the shampoo bottle from the conditioner. It’s a relief when he finally sits down on his couch and eats cinnamon toast cereal without the world spinning around him.
Jiwon knocks on his door at 10:03am. He wanted to tease him about the promptness but decides against it, partly because his brain wasn’t exactly back online yet but mainly because Jiwon looked so adorable standing in his doorway like a hopeful prom date.
“Sorry I fell asleep on you last night. Your voice does that.” He says as he settles into the (now very familiar) passenger’s seat.
“My voice puts you to sleep?” Jiwon teases.
“Yeah it does. It’s sedating….but in a good way.” He knows that he must sound completely spaced out right now and wonders if Jiwon will pick up on it.
“So you don’t remember anything I said?”
“No, I do. Something about apple orchards and friendzoning girls and having seven kids.”
Jiwon looks over with a cautious expression. “That’s it? You don’t remember the rest?”
He racks his brain but he can barely remember what he just had for breakfast. “No. Should I have? Was it something memorable?”
Jiwon shakes his head, oddly relieved. “No no, nothing major.” There’s a grin at the end of it before the Beast roars into life down the street.
He’s feeling more human by the time they walk through the doors of June’s tattoo shop.
“Ahh look, it’s dumb and dumber! Finally here to ruin my fucking day.” June says brightly from his position in the counter.
“You really need to work on your greetings.” Jiwon says.
“It’s part of my charm.” June winks before hopping off the counter. He hugs Jiwon despite the protests before coming over to pat Hanbin on the shoulder. “Hey Hanbin. How’ve you been? This kid giving you any grief?”
“Of course he is. It’s driving me crazy.” He says with a smile.
“Knew it!” June says loudly. “Return him to the store and get an upgrade! He’s literally 2000 and late- a completely useless and out of date model.”
“Shut up Grandpa!” Jiwon calls out from the back kitchen.
“Ahh everything feels normal again.” June sighs. “Hey! I need to show you something. I got a book on geometrical line tattoos. Thought you might like something in it.”
Hanbin’s oddly flattered by the thoughtfulness “Oh. Yeah. Yeah. Thanks.”
A heavy book is thrust into his hands as they settle into their seats. He flips through the pages, breathing in the new book smell and mentally ticking off some designs he already likes.
Jiwon comes back out and hands him a cow print mug. “Black. No milk. No sugar.”
“Thanks.” He smiles over the rim of the mug, feeling lame and dopey.
“You’re welcome.” Jiwon smiles back.
June rolls his eyes between them. “And yet he forgets my birthday.”
Jiwon breaks the eye contact to scowl. “That was one time and you said I was forgiven when I got you the PS3.”
“Did I? That doesn’t seem like something I’d say at all.”
Jiwon groans. “Can we just get started? Instead of sitting around and arguing like always?”
“You’re right. We can work and continue to argue like always.” June says with a nod.
Hanbin settles in his chair as the ink gun buzzes into life. He sticks Post-It notes on the pages of the design book that interest him and feels his worries melt away. It was a weird combination really, the contrast between the sterile smell of alcohol disinfectant and the familiar herbal fragrance from the tea Jiwon made. It was almost as contradictory as the mechanical sound of the tattoo gun bouncing off the soothing peach coloured walls to accompany the Al Green song that June has playing over the speakers. It was mismatched and scrappy and strange but he loves it. It all reminds him of Jiwon in a way; how he was the perfect combination of hard industrial angles and soft warm smiles.
He is so deep inside his head that he completely misses the conversation happening in front of him.
“Right Hanbin?”
He looks up, dazed. “Huh?”
“Warren G is the better rapper but Dre is the better producer, right?”
“Bullshit.” June replies. “Dre is better at both.”
“They’re step-brothers.” He says absentmindedly.
“That’s so not answering the question.” June mutters.
He shakes the cobwebs from his fuzzy mind and starts again. “Well, Warren has a smoother technique if you’re only arguing about the west coast rap style. Dre is definitely better at producing though. Eminem wouldn’t be anywhere without Dre. So yeah, Warren might be the slightly better rapper but Dre’s definitely the better producer.”
They both stare at him before Jiwon looks across as June with a smug smile. “Told you so.”
June turns the ink gun back on. “Oh great, you’re gonna start arguing as a team now? I’m so excited about this new development.” He says blandly.
Jiwon gives him a wink, which wasn’t so much a wink as a co-ordinated blink with both eyes.
“Maybe Yoyo can come here and help you win all these arguments then?” Hanbin says as politely as he can.
Jiwon laughs loudly, trying not to move his arm but failing miserably.
June gives them both a withering look before turning the ink gun off again. “Okay. Very funny. You’re very funny over there Hanbin. But you just made your idiot boyfriend here move so one of the roses is now a bit crooked. Congratulations, you both played yourselves!”
Jiwon looks over at him with a grin. “Totally worth it.”
“Ahh, let’s take a break. Your ugly face is annoying and my back is kinda killing me today.” June announces, stretching in his chair before going outside with his cup of tea.
Hanbin wanders over and sits in June’s seat, peering at the bloody mess of lines on Jiwon’s forearm. “Sorry about the rose.”
“I’m not. You should’ve seen his face! It’s been ages since I’ve seen someone take a shot at his ego.”
Hanbin gives him a wry smile. “You want another cup of tea?”
“Yeah, thanks baby.”
It comes out so easily and casually but he still freezes like a deer in headlights, unsure what to do or say as the butterflies in his stomach zoom around like they’re all on acid.
“Sorry. It just came out.” Jiwon says quickly.
“It’s okay. No big deal.” He says in a strained voice before walking off into the kitchen to fill the kettle with shaky hands.
He’s standing at the bench waiting for the kettle to boil when he can hear Jiwon shuffling in behind him.
“You don’t like it. The name.” It was more a statement than a question.
Hanbin shakes his head but doesn’t turn around. “No, I like it. I’ve just never been called that before. It was just kinda weird, that’s all.”
He feels a breath against the back of his neck and the heat radiating off Jiwon’s body as he comes to stand behind him. “Is it cool enough for you?”
“No. It’s terrible.” He says, smiling to himself.
Two tattooed arms come to rest on either side of him, caging him in the middle. His heart races in anticipation as he stares at Richard Parker’s tail and the new crooked rose on Jiwon’s tanned skin.
“So you’re okay if I keep calling you that?”
“Yeah, it’s fine.”
“Okay…baby…”
The way it comes out sends a shiver all the way down his spine. There’s lips against his ear, it’s barely a touch but it makes him so giddy that he feels like he’s about to jump off a cliff or do something equally stupid.
And then he hears it again, in Jiwon’s deep rough growl, the one that’s gentle but demanding and playful but emphatically possessive.
“Baby…”
After that, Hanbin couldn’t stop himself from turning around even if he wanted to. He sees shiny half hooded eyes for a split second before Jiwon leans down and closes the small distance between them, his mouth fitting over Hanbin’s with a soft warm pressure.
Jiwon tastes like earl grey tea and cinnamon toast cereal and he kisses like he lives life: confident, curious, full of purpose and with no room for doubt.
And messy.
If there’s one word to describe Jiwon, messy would be the first thing that comes to mind.
Hanbin is pressed against the bench as their kiss deepens, his lips already feeling swollen and there’s so much saliva between them that he can feel it across his jaw. His hands grabs the front of Jiwon’s t-shirt when he feels an insistent tongue trying to lick his mouth open, they both moan when he finally does.
But just as he’s trying to remember everything about the moment the kettle suddenly begins it’s high pitched and obnoxious beeping. It takes him by surprise, startling his eyes open and making him jump forward to twist his hands into the fabric of Jiwon’s tshirt so forcibly that he feels it stretching and protesting.
“Fuck that’s loud.” Jiwon remarks as he pulls away, slightly out of breath. He reaches over to turn the kettle off and starts laughing when he sees Hanbin’s stunned face. “You okay? Had another heart attack?”
Hanbin narrows his eyes and shoves at the solid chest in front of him. “Yes you jerk! Don’t pretend like it didn’t scare you too.”
“Maybe a little.” Jiwon murmurs before pulling him back against his chest. “Come back here. Kiss me again.”
Hanbin carefully grabs his right arm above the reddened tattooed area and leans back in. It’s just as hot and sweet and infuriatingly good as the first time. He’s tries to catalogue every happy sound Jiwon makes, the way he tastes and the hard wall of muscle underneath his soft worn-in t-shirt.
It’s then that the front door slams shut, followed by June’s sheepish, “Sorry, it’s just me! My bad!”
They reluctantly break for a second time, Jiwon frowning and groaning in frustration. “Why is the universe cock blocking me?” He mutters.
Hanbin colours at the choice of words. “I don’t know. Did you pay your taxes this year?”
“Yes! And now I’m being punished.” Jiwon whines, indignant.
They hear June shuffling around the main room so Hanbin smooths out the front of Jiwon’s tshirt and pushes him away.
“Go. I’ll bring out the tea. I don’t want him asking about this. You know he’s gonna tease you all day.”
“Hey by the way, if he ever hears you calling me bunny, he’ll never take me seriously again.”
Hanbin gives him a smile as he reaches up to wipe at Jiwon’s lower lip with his thumb. “He never took you seriously to begin with. Now go, bunny.”
Jiwon leans in to give him one last kiss in his cheek. “Okay, baby.”
He gives Hanbin a dopey smile as he backs out of the kitchen. Hanbin shakes his head but does nothing to stop his own dopey smile from forming.
It takes him twice as long to make the tea this time. He has to stop and replay what just happened, occasionally touching his lips to see if he can still feel anything on them.
He pours the tea carefully and tries to keep his face neutral when he brings it out to the main room, sneaking looks at Jiwon’s face when he and June are both peering down at the inky roses and discussing the best way to fix the crooked lines (Jiwon asks that they stay crooked).
Before he can stop himself, he lets out a sigh that’s way too loud and causes both guys to look over.
“What was that for? We keeping you up?” June asks. “You need colouring books over there?”
He scoffs. “Is that what Yoyo does when you’re annoying him?”
June gives him sullen look before turning to Jiwon, “Can you get a new boyfriend? This one is too salty.”
“Nope, sorry bro. I’m keeping him forever.” Jiwon laughs happily and gives him another wink. Stupidly enough, right in the middle of all his thoughts, the only thing Hanbin can think about is the fact that Jiwon still can’t wink properly.
Oh well. He wants to stay forever and wonky winks are only a small price to pay.

Cloudy With A Chance
Part 10: …of A Late Change (1 of 3)
Masterlist
“No.”
Jiwon is barely two steps out of his bedroom when Yoyo gives him his first unsolicited review.
He figures Yoyo is still in “Curator Mode”. He’d been working for months organising the big art exhibition at the Gallery downtown and had volunteered both June and Jiwon to hand out the information handbooks for the show. It’s not Jiwon’s first time on handbook duty but last year’s show was closer to Banksy than Botticelli and he was allowed to wear his regular clothes for it.
But tonight was different. He was given instructions to wear “something neat and respectable” so he chose his newest and cleanest white t-shirt and blue jeans. It looked fine. He’s worn them before and Hanbin said it was fine. So it must be fine.
“It’s new-” He starts, pointing to the white fabric that hadn’t even begun to go gray yet.
“No. Go change.” Yoyo says sharply before turning to walk back out into the living room.
“Crazy bloody art people….” He toes his door shut, takes off the jeans and t-shirt and stands in front of his small wardrobe to look over his collection of oversized t-shirts and jeans. His wedding/funeral suit no longer fit since he started hitting the gym regularly. He sighs loudly before throwing on a black button down shirt and the tightest pair of jeans he owned. It’s black. This is an Art Event. This is surely their uniform.
He wanders out into his living where Yoyo was now on the phone to June. He gets a judgemental survey up and down before Yoyo shakes his head and turns back to his conversation. “Hey babe? Can you bring your navy suit over too? It’s in the closet next to all the work shirts…oh and that blue tie you wore to your sister’s graduation……no I haven’t changed my mind! Bring everything we agreed on plus that navy suit.”
Jiwon rolls his eyes and throws his hands up in surrender before sitting down heavily on his couch. Yoyo had come over early with boxes of hanbooks that needed to be sorted but Jiwon suspects he also just wanted to supervise his dressing process.
“….yeah, he looks tragic. I can’t have him looking like he just rolled off the street or one of those hip hop videos. Nothing is tailored! Yes, I know that’s his style but……..well, doesn’t Hanbin deserve to see him dress nicely for once? That poor kid….I don’t want him to think that I’m willing to let my friend look like a peasant.”
He perks up at the mention of Hanbin’s name. A small smile spreads over his face despite Yoyo’s insulting tirade.
It has only been a week since they had their talk at his garage and he’s pretty sure he’s burned through most of his phone credit on text messages already. As much as he loves talking to Hanbin, the faceless aspect of texting gives them both the overconfident courage to say things that they probably wouldn’t if they were face to face. Well, not yet anyway.
Yoyo had insisted on inviting Hanbin to the exhibit and was only more excited when he remembered that Hanbin’s magazine was the same one that emailed him about an interview and article. Yoyo had looked mortally wounded that Jiwon hadn’t mentioned it earlier, smacking his arm painfully during dinner and waving his chopsticks in his face, threatening to cut off his meal privileges until he introduced them.
Jiwon loves his meal privileges and he knows the main reason he’s even remotely healthy is because Yoyo and June are both great cooks and let him crash their dinners. The only thing he can cook up is a plan to get take-away.
He had really wanted to enjoy the almost secret situation he had with Hanbin for a little bit longer but then again….free food. He’s not proud to say that he folded like a piece of paper.
“JUNE. God, why are you defending him?” Yoyo exclaims loudly, jolting Jiwon out of his thoughts.
He watches Yoyo pinch the bridge of his nose as he continues to argue with June over the phone. “I need him to look neat. It’s my reputation too. Just bring the damm suit and tie okay….okay, thank you! See you soon.”
Yoyo hangs up and turns around in his chair with victorious smile. Jiwon always knew who had the upper hand in their relationship and it wasn’t June. Ever.
“Did you come over just to dress me?” Jiwon asks.
“You said you’d help me with the handbooks!” Yoyo says innocently, overdoing it and giving himself away completely.
“Why do you care so much about how I look tonight anyway? You let me wear shorts last time.”
“That was modern street art. Nobody really cares what you wear to those shows. Tonight’s show is Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Weren’t you listening when I told you? It’s the biggest show I’ve ever put on. All the lifestyle magazines are coming you know. And besides, isn’t it your first official outing with Hanbin? Since your whole melodramatic argument?”
Jiwon lets out a groan. “Geez, does June have to tell you everything?”
Yoyo only laughs at him. “You know that’s how things work, kiddo. But on that topic, I haven’t fully forgiven you for hiding Hanbin from me so I want a proper introduction and I want to ask him at least two questions before you go all Kevin Costner Bodyguard on everyone.” Yoyo makes his demand with his arms crossed over his chest and Jiwon’s always taken aback by how much Yoyo reminds him of his parents. He was like a dad or a mom without any kids.
“What? When have I ever gone Kevin Costner on anyone?! I’ve literally never hidden any boyfriends from you guys.”
Yoyo rolls his eyes to the left and Jiwon swears it’s the one that looks exactly like June’s condescending eye rolls. It was completely true: couples do tend to morph into each other after a certain amount of time.
“Exactly.” Yoyo says, as if it explained everything.
Jiwon looks at him in bewilderment. “What the hell that does mean?! You didn’t even answer anything.”
“You’ve never hidden anyone before. No offence but I got so sick of hearing about that last guy. He thought Da Vinci was French. Da Vinci doesn’t even sound French! I mean, really Jiwon. Have some standards please.”
He lays down on the couch in a big huff. “Oh my god! You’re never gonna let that go are you? I told you! He was a rapper! Why the hell would he know anything about 16th century Italian art?!”
Yoyo looks proud of his knowledge for a split second before going back to Mom-Mode. “Because Da Vinci is a creative genius and I judge anyone and everyone who doesn’t know of him. People should know Da Vinci, okay? Hanbin knows about him right?”
“Of course he does! He might know more than you actually.” Jiwon knows that’s probably not true but he can’t help getting Yoyo all riled up about art history.
Yoyo laughs derisively. “Ha! As if. Well, at least I’ll have an intelligent person to talk to when we have dinner together.”
“I’m telling June you said that.”
“Do it. It might make him lift his game a bit or listen to me once in awhile. I swear he just turns off his hearing when I start talking about art stuff.” Yoyo says with a sigh. “You guys drag me to all those DJ and rap events and I never complain….”
Jiwon scoffs loudly at that.
“…..but I drag you to one art thing and you both treat it like you’re going to war.”
“But we still go.” Jiwon points out.
Yoyo hums in agreement, features softening somewhat. “Well, yeah. That’s true.”
They spend the next 15 minutes stacking the handbooks into boxes and waiting for June to drive over with the suits.
Jiwon is in the kitchen making them a cup of coffee when he hears June barging through the front door.
“Did you bring it?!” Yoyo’s excited voice.
“Yeah yeah….” June’s resigned voice.
He walks out with the mugs and nods a greeting to June before handing Yoyo his coffee.
He eyes the navy suit drapped over June’s arm with trepidation. “You expect me to wear that?”
“Yes. You’ll look great! He’ll be all blown away.” Yoyo bounces excitedly, causing June to reach out and grab the mug from him before he starts waving it around and splashing hot coffee all over the floor.
“Babe, I don’t think Hanbin’s with him for the visuals.” June smirks before taking a sip from the mug.
“Hey! He likes how I dress!” He interjects defensively.
“Is that what he said?” June says skeptically. “Well, he must have the patience of a saint and the honesty of a politician.”
He half expected Yoyo to come to his defence, the good cop to June’s bad one, but he gets nothing of the sort.
“Awww, he’s telling you white lies already. Must be special.”
Jiwon watches as they share a knowing look between them. He wishes he could be irritated with them but a part of him just also yearns to have that kind of bond with someone, to get to that point where you can share knowing looks and private in jokes that the rest of the World isn’t a part of.
It’s this line of thinking that convinces him that maybe Yoyo was right. Maybe he should make a bit of an effort for Hanbin. It wasn’t a proper date but they will spend time together and he wouldn’t want Hanbin to ever think that he wasn’t worth making the effort for.
He holds on to this thought as he lets Yoyo coax him into June’s navy suit before dragging him into the bathroom and running wax through his hair.
It takes a long 25 minutes before Yoyo stands back to look at him, nodding and humming with satisfaction. “Damm, I’m good. If this doesn’t get you laid then I don’t know what will.”
Jiwon colours immediately and, because God must want to test him today, June walks into the room right at that moment.
“Holy shit, are you actually blushing? In a suit that fits? With wax in your hair?” June laughs in disbelief. “Now, I’ve seen everything.”
“OKAY. Thank you. Haha. Very funny. Let’s all just go now please.” Jiwon motions them out of his room but June stops in his tracks.
“Hang on. Did you blush because you’re not hitting any home runs?”
“I am not talking about that! So don’t even ask me.” He replies tersely before sliding his phone, wallet and keys into his pocket.
“Oh my god. Seriously?” Yoyo looks at him with wide eyes. “Are you suddenly religious again? Like that time you were chasing that church guy? No sex before marriage?”
Yoyo tries to hold back his laughter. June doesn’t even bother.
And Jiwon just groans in frustration. Free food. Free food. Think of the free food.
“No! We just haven’t got to that part yet so don’t bring it up tonight when you see him. I swear to God, I’ll key your car and tell your parents about that time you both smoked weed in June’s house and I had to take the blame for it.”
The laughter dies abruptly.
“Dude….”
“Yeah, don’t ‘dude’ me! Just shut the fuck up about my sex life okay? And DO NOT ask him about it.”
He walks past them with a smirk. Well, he feels better already.
