Would love to hear about potential parallel stories/lore in judaism 👁👁👁👁💞

i realized that i actually havent thought very in depth about parallels and themes in the bible in a LONG time but let me think...

one that jumped to the forefront of my mind is something that idk if its a theme/parallel or not, but it has to do with moses. in the torah (really in the talmud i think which is a bunch of rabbi's headcanons about the torah that were then accepted as canon later on), when moses was taken in by pharaoh a test was performed to see whether moses would overthrow him, and by extension whether he was safe to keep and raise. that test was to show baby moses two pots: one of gold and riches and one of hot coals, and whichever he grabbed would be indicative as to what kind of son he'd be. so obviously, being a baby, moses starts to go for the shiny stuff. but (so the story goes) since moses has plot armor an angel (of death [?]) reached out and moved his hand to the hot coals. this is important because not only did it secure his safety to grow up under pharaoh's watch, but it burned his hand, which he then put in his mouth which permanantly burned his tongue and gave him a lisp. now the lisp isnt really talked about much more until later on, and its kind of minor so i get why its often left out, but it changes the whole feeling of the story! because of the lisp, moses gets nervous to speak in front of pharaoh's mages, and so it's aaron who does the talking when they turn their staffs into snakes. it's aaron (iirc) who speaks to the hebrews and tells them the word of god. moses is the one who speaks directly to god and does his bidding in the stories, but aaron is the one who conveys the information. and AND i just remembered this continues!! it continues to be true that moses doesnt always tell his own story!! in the scientific world it is generally accepted that there are a few different authors/compilers of the torah, but in judaism there is one main accepted truth of how it was written with two endings: moses wrote the whole thing up until the last chapter when he was on mount sinai, writing down word for word what god told him to. the ending, though, changes because at the end of the bible moses dies there is a debate over whether moses wrote his own death before it happened (since god is omnipresent blah blah blah) or whether joshua took over for him after he died. if the latter is true, that would be the second time someone tells moses' story for him!! first aaron tells the mages and the hebrews who moses is and why he was sent to save them, and then joshua tells the story of his death and his exile from the holy land! there are THEMES and MOTIFS i can SEE THEM

“Mikotoooo, just share with Muu,” the girl pouted. “I mean it!”

He scooted out of her reach. “What are you gonna do, stab me about it?”

Muu’s jaw dropped, but there was no real horror behind it. “Maybe!” She lunged for him again. 

After a strange rattling from the walls had woken some in the middle of the night, all the heat in the prison had seeped away. Es had left to fix it immediately, and no one had seen them for hours. In Mikoto’s opinion, they seemed better versed in law than plumbing and mechanical fixes. He had no idea how long they’d all be shivering like this in the winter chill.

The prisoners walked around all morning in a mismatch of spare layers. Mahiru giggled inside one of Shidou’s extra doctor coats, far too big on her. Mikoto hadn’t stopped laughing that Shidou owned extra doctor coats in the first place. Yuno’s stylish hats could be spotted on several of the prisoners, Mikoto included. (He’d given his own beanie to Kazui, earlier.) Fuuta had handed out a concerning amount of sweatshirts, and Muu had some fashionable scarves that gave enough warmth to be useful.

In addition to the ridiculous getups, they each carried their bed sheets around their shoulders. Mikoto was surprised to find himself the envy of the group.

A while back he’d requested a weighted blanket; he remembered finding one helpful when work got too overwhelming. Milgram had provided a fairly large one, though he felt it hadn’t worked as well here. He didn't expect it to cause a stir until Shidou pointed out that its weight would make it even warmer than his own. Following that, it didn’t take long to attract the small army of murderous children that were after him. 

As he stepped away from Muu, Yuno leapt at his other side, ready to snatch the blanket off of him. Although Haruka and Amane were too nervous to make a grab at him, they stood anxiously nearby rooting for his loss. Mahiru had jumped in as well. Her quick movements forced Mikoto to spin around and draw it even closer around his shoulders. Caring less about the blanket, but always ready to tackle someone, Fuuta joined the scuffle.

It wasn't like Mikoto cared about the blanket, either. He had no issue sharing it with the others. He knew the attitude in the prison had been dropping recently. Despite the brief camaraderie from sharing articles of clothing, everyone’s mood had been especially bitter today. As physical discomfort added to their mental strain, things could go south quickly. The place needed to liven up a bit.

He stepped back from the blanket thieves, flicking the corner of it from Fuuta’s hands. 

“Not so fast!”

Fuuta fumed. “You asshole…”

Yuno, meanwhile, seemed up for the challenge. “You’re quick!”

“I’ve had a bit of experience…” He flashed a wicked grin. Mikoto didn’t talk about his family much, but a few of the others knew he grew up on fairly good terms with a younger sister. His big brother instincts had developed just fine.

He darted this way and that. He faked and sidestepped and spun. As his opponents grew bolder, he ended up sweeping the blanket off his back. He swung it around the room with less effort than expected. He was stronger than he looked, and easily kept the girls at bay while wrestling Fuuta for the blanket. He let out a laugh as he fought back against all the grabbing hands. Taking advantage of the height difference, he lifted it directly over his head.

The position wasn’t the most secure, though. His taunts were quickly replaced by feigned cries as the others dragged him to the ground. As they pinned him down, a cheer erupted from Haruka before he covered his mouth. The others joined in the celebration as they claimed their prize.

Mikoto lamented, “you’re so cruel… you’re all so cruel…” It was good, he thought, hearing them all laugh.

The loss of his blanket wasn’t his only punishment. Heaving an exhausted breath, Yuno flopped down directly on top of him. She tucked herself and Muu into the blanket. Then Mahiru wiggled in, beckoning to Amane and Haruka. By the time they all nestled in, there was just barely enough room for Fuuta to squeeze in with everyone. 

Mikoto wheezed from under the pile of prisoners.

“Okay, okay,” he said. “You win. Fuck -- let me breathe...”

Mahiru just made herself more comfortable. “But you’re so warm!” The others muttered their agreement. Not one showed any sign of moving. The prison was far too cold to give up heat like this, after all.

“That’s because you all made me work so hard!” He huffed. “Come on.”

“What are you gonna do?” Muu giggled, doing a poor impression of his voice, “murd--”

“-- Aw, shaddup…”

His lusus (tanuki) wasn't the mandated Asetsu lusus passed down, and was instead a lusus that had lost it's previous charge and took in Xizaya in her grief. Xizaya was a very bitter, angry, and hurt kid that never quite grew accustomed to her parenting style. Instead of fight to protect him, she was the 'run and hide' type that would keep Xizaya holed up for his safety. Which was understandable, he's a capital M Mutant. In the end, staying still in hiding is what got her killed, and it wasn't until then did he appreciate her efforts to keep them safe.

She doesn't show up in his clairvoyance though! Maybe her passing on came easier and knew not to worry about him the way she once did, a part of them wishes they could have seen her one last time though.

Also is there a story behind Xizaya's tattoos?

In a way! While they have no super deep meaning or purpose, he didn't get them to honor anyone, it's not for his goddess, etc. It took sweeps of him being in a calmer, patient, and caring environment for him to even consider the notion of self expression through style/tattoos/body mods. Getting to that point was something he never thought would even BE possible, it was something they never would've considered 3, even 2 sweeps ago. His life has slowed down enough to where they can actually treat themselves like a person and Enjoy Life a little.

Do you have any tips for those struggling to love their art? I admire your art a lot and I’m curious if there was a point where you figured your art wasn’t good enough to show, even though all art is good.

Hmm wish I was more well-spoken, but trust me that even though it make take some time to get to a point were you are happy with your art, you are your own worst critic. Hell, even i still cant look at any of my older works without wanting to shoot myself.

Ive been drawing since forever so as soon as i got a phone i started posting even though i knew my art wasnt perfect (and even now i dont consider my art to be perfect, i still got loads to learn). So If you want to post art, then do it!! You have literally nothing to lose! ignore any doubt and go for it!! Atleast that's what i did xD

tldr: give ur self time to learn to be happy with ur art, i know it can be frustrating at times but keep going and take breaks when needed :]

I would LOVE to give you more info on Quincy but unfortunately his backstory is plot relevant so I can’t say too much I’m sorry!!!

What I CAN reveal is that Quincy was taken in by his family at a young age, and is very protective over them because of this. He loves his family VERY much, and would do ANYTHING to protect them, including possibly hurting/fatally injuring a child that is thought to somehow bring calamity to them. I can’t say how his family is connected to the prophecy just yet, tho.

Over the course of the story he learns more that Brook is literally the most harmless, well meaning person, and is literally incapable of bringing the destruction that is understood to come from the prophecy. He also gets very attached because she reminds him a lot of himself in a lot of ways from before he was taken in by his family. He can kind of guess the conditions she was kept in by the way she looks and acts, which are both things he didn’t really notice at first before he dove in head first. Now that he’s noticed it, he knows and understands some of what she’s gone through and IS going through, even if he doesn’t know the details.

I’m sorry I can’t give too much more insight at this point!!! I’ll give you a fun fact and a reference for him to hopefully make up for it!

Fun fact: Quincy swears like a sailor. Literally every other word that comes out of his mouth while he is able to speak is some sort of curse word.

As for the necromancy part-

Magic is what keeps beings like this from decaying any further than they have upon the use of the spell.

When you use a piece of your magic to magically jumpstart another person, you DO get an influence over them, as previously stated, but they also keep their essence as well. You’re kind of calling back some of the magic still hanging around in their corpse, not yet returned to the earth, and combining it with your own so that they can go ahead and take in their own over time like other living beings can. Which is why, over time, people who are under the influence of necromancy can have bits of themselves shine through, ESPECIALLY when taking orders. Does this make sense? I’m sorry if it doesn’t, it’s hard to put what I’m thinking of down into words qwq

Surprisingly, I haven’t thought about how long it lasts for!!! That’s a really good question!!! I’d say that when the caster dies all the influence they had over the affected dissipates. The affected naturally will get weaker and weaker and more and more sluggish as time goes on after the caster dies, and will eventually go to sleep and not wake back up. The amount of time that takes can vary from a few days to years after the fact depending on how long they’ve been revived for.

Hi! i was wondering if the Subordinate Dating Sim would get possible platonic routes at all, either later on after the game’s launch or alongside the main game. I understand it is a dating sim, but i was just asking for us folks in the back.

I will definitely play the game when it comes out either way and I love the concepts so far!

fair question! I don't really have a definite answer atm. in another dating sim project I have I've included platonic routes as something woven into the game's point system mechanic, but I'm not sure how well that same system would fit into Subordinate, so I'd have to come up with a new way to integrate that, if I was going to. I do plan on making little DLCs that deviate from the games main story, so that might be an avenue for something like that.

tl;dr: I'm not sure yet.

however! I do have a smaller project that I will be announcing soon that may or may not be a dating sim with platonic (among other) options 👀
