Why people often confuses Connor's deviancy with Hank's relationship status:

They got similar impacts after a point the story. Usually when the SI goes up are choices that also gonna impact Hank's rep positively. But as u can see they're totally unrelated, not only in the narrative but also the math system.

So, no... Connor doesn't deviate cuz of Hank. That's not true. I believe the devs themselves realized leaving a dialogue implying that would go against what they constructed and also becoming a plot hole when you're outside one specific route (an issue the game got overall).

According to the narrative there may be 3 main reasons why he can choose deviating:

Amanda AI betrayal, when he also thought he mattered enough for CL to not lie to him (Daniel parallel);

Finding common ground with the deviants story, empathizing with 'em (esp the Tracis);

Realizing he ain't doing "the right thing" by helping the megacorporation to repress androids - he included, as they're using him as just some tool.

As he may have 3 main reasons to choose not deviating:

Believe deviants are extremly dangerous to humans, a threat to the country and to innocent people - and he's the one that can help preventing chaos from happening (CL propaganda);

Believe deviants are no better than "bad" humans he met along the way and that he's the one that can help prevent chaos from happening (CL propaganda + experience);

Fear of failing his mission, his whole purpose and ending up as 100% nothing (not useful) for Amanda - someone he got a level of attachment -, consequently ceasing to exist (dying) in the end (not even destroyed but the existence totally deleted).

In resume Connor's machine vs deviancy clash looks like a mix of doubts/conflicts about the deviancy situation + fear of "death" (ceasing to exist).

According to the narrative Connor's main topic related to Hank, something not impacted about the machine vs deviancy clash, is his worry and empathy towards Hank's trauma: mf's a traffic accident survivor, got a bad relationship with androids "cheating death" due to his own son's death as it's basically an INSULT when all the guy wants is having his kid (kids are quite a relevant topic in Connor's arc btw) back in his arms + the belief an android is responsible for Cole's death in attempt to ease his own sense of guilty.

All dude wants is Hank to overcome this trauma cuz it worsened things like suicidal tendencies and alcoholism - and also his hatred for androids.

Ain't only cuz these personal issues can make his job difficult but also cuz he starts respecting Hank and where mf came from after a point in the game, even if he "hates" the guy's guts.

I'd say Hank's experience alongside Connor in the case witnessing deviants stories confirming his negative opinion on humans made him realize he was being a coward this whole time attacking the wrong people:

and sadly his rep with Connor alone is what decides if the guy finally act upon his bullshit and "uses his suicidal tendencies" to fight for what he think it's right (telling law enforcement to fuck off definitely) or die in cowardice in his own house by his own hand victim of this same issue.

I can't help but say it's again continuation issues as this scene makes no sense when you're outside a very specific route.

A better summary would be: Connor doesn't deviate cuz of Hank, but Hank "deviates" cuz of Connor (due to bad design cuz Connor himself shouldn't be the reason he changes his mind but the whole picture imo).

I believe to fully visualize a character and context in a game like this we need to analyze each variation in the story, not only playing a specific route - the easiest one they call "full best ending", the one the game itself helps u to get - cuz it's easy losing context and also a good part of the character's range of expressions. When u do that u realize the character got a base that won't change doesn't matter how u play.

I made a post about it but I found out that the wish spell can be used to revert drider transformation? Like idk if it's a real aspect of the game itself considering the wish spell is I think the highest level spell you can learn (just checked its level 9 conjuration) and I also don't know if they made it as op as lore suggests which is sad cause I thought it was gonna be like an only good version of wild magic lol.

Anyways do u think karniss would take that chance if he could? Or would he refuse it since he's been a drider for god knows how long?

To my knowledge, wish is the only way driders can be reverted in D&D lore. Of course in BG3, if Larian wanted to, they could make alternatives. I don't believe wish is available to players in-game, the closest we get is cleric's divine intervention which acts very similar to wish in terms of mechanics. Things might change in the future depending on what plans the devs have for new additions.

The choice Kar'niss would make in terms of reverting would depend on a few factors.

-How good his relationship with Tav is.

-What route Tav takes him, good or evil.

I think if he's in the process of healing and becoming his own person he would lean more toward returning to full drow. Being a drider has advantages but if he wants to live on the surface in relative peace, reverting gives him the best chances.

Alternatively, if his self esteem continues to be pounded into the dirt and Tav makes him feel worthless he'd stay a drider because he doesn't feel like he's earned better. Lolth made him this way as punishment, it's what he deserves. That and he may convince himself he's stronger this way to both protect Tav and to fulfill whatever desires they have. That may be true in a physical sense, but mentally he's weaker.

If he's given the choice without Tav's direct influence, that'll likely be based on his reputation with the Tav. If it's high, he changes back. If it's low, he remains as he is now.

I hope someday Larian gives us the chance to find out for sure. Thanks for the ask!

just wanted to let u know that one of the web developers for qsmp shared their experiences at @/Bipeo_dev on twitter. they shared a notion page with their account written in english, spanish, french, and portuguese, with screenshots of discord dm's, them keeping track of their hourly wages and the time they spent on a project, as well as gifs and images of abandoned web projects they were working on.

they essentially had to constantly negotiate their salary and work under tight deadlines, and resigned after having to receive updates about their job from quackity's stream like everyone else. i haven't seen anyone else bring it up here and i'm a lurker in the fanbase so i thought it'd be better to bring it to your attention since u've been posting a lot of updates (thank u for doing that btw!)

idk is it worth it to read any shounen manga for female side characters?????? (??) HEAVILY DEBATABLE. on one hand the casual observer would say no but on the other hand femslash shippers are the strongest people on god's green earth and will endure great tortures for paltry table scraps.

I think mha is a good manga but it's still a shounen, some of the tropes they squeeze the girls into kind of suck. I can kind of put my annoyance aside because regardless im still a big fan of cool fight scenes and the power of friendship but I think your mileage will vary depending on how much tolerance you have for that kind of story...? There's an awful lot of chapters afterall. I will say this: though toga and ochako aren't the main characters they're not in the background either. the path of their relationship spans multiple arcs across the entire manga and is both plot relevant and relevant to the greater themes/thesis of the story. it's pretty clear that the mangaka and editorial team are dedicated to giving these characters the time and page space to play out. it's not perfect but thats better than a decent amount of big shounen femslash in my opinion? shrugs

I don't want to make this into a hot take like this is an entirely personal opinion and I don't expect any other artists to share my position but: Everything about my art that I consider valuable is inherently impossible for AI to replicate and everything about my art that is replicable and monetizable is not something I'm interested in owning or protecting. 1. in canon believes that sebastian should go to azkaban to pay for canceling their uncles life subscription (granted, if you agree with ominis, he does say she's torn about it now that its happening)

I just got done replaying the first 20 lessons of Obey Me and I’m curious about how other people interpret certain things from the whole timeline conundrum

I know most of it probably just comes down to the writing, since it’s proven that the devs don’t even follow their own lore lmao, but it’s more fun if I pretend there’s meaning there u know

specifically... (spoilers under cut)

Barbatos tells the mc not to reveal that they’re from the future and to avoid coming into contact with anyone whilst in the past, or they run the risk of warping history. that seems to be exactly what happens when they’re spotted as “they” are dying in Mammon’s arms. theoretically, the mc that gets attacked by Belphie, and therefore the one that’s dying, would be the mc we followed from the future timeline, and so them vanishing once the other mc is spotted suggests to me that the original timeline (or future of this timeline?) got warped

so... why would Barb say all that and know the risk, only to send them into the past through what seems to be Mammon’s bedroom door where most of the brothers were gathered? why not send them through a door where no one would see them? do you think that was intentional, or do you think he doesn’t have control over specifics like that?

something in me says that he was pulling strings along the way anyway, since there are moments like when they’re in Lilith’s room and a memory from the Celestial Realm seemed to physically play out from her perspective, to being by the attic stairs at a time that occurred before they even got to the Devildom, to being back to “present day” when they go up the stairs and free Belphie. they’re supposed to be physically present in the real world, just in a different timeline, and that shit doesn’t just happen in reality without some sort of magical influence. it’s got Barb written all over it. memories or visions from the past show in sepia, but those scenes from the past show in full colour, so something’s definitely up

he does mention to Diavolo that he’ll see to it that things turn out exactly how he wishes, so maybe he intentionally wanted to warp timelines for a better outcome, but what about the original timeline needed changing? Belphie hadn’t actually acted on anything and was being friendly with the mc, so why make it so they’re living in a timeline where Belphie literally murders them?? surely Dia could have just pardoned him whilst he still hadn’t acted on his hatred for humans and revealed the Lilith descendant detail to ensure he wouldn’t try anything later on. they revealed the Lilith thing in the past timeline but it seems to have been discovered of their own accord, so I don’t see why it couldn’t have also occurred in the original. plus, he seems to have pardoned murderer Belphie pretty easily so all that “I can’t give him special treatment” talk is bs lol

I know they said they did this to find out who unlocked the attic door, but they technically didn’t even figure out who did it in the original timeline because it got altered to the point of the mc being the one to do it in the new one, which wouldn’t have been what happened in the original since they were downstairs with Lucifer at the time. yes it’s implied that it was Lilith’s spirit, but no one actually mentions that so that leads me to believe they still don’t fully know

y’know what, better yet, why couldn’t Diavolo have excused this one time and allowed Barbatos to look into the past to find out for himself who opened the door? finding out who it was serves Diavolo no purpose other than to satisfy his curiosity, since the door opening worked more in his favour for capturing Belphie and therefore whoever did it wouldn’t need to be known for punishment’s sake, so why would he send his beloved human exchange student on such a risky mission when he has a demon with the ability to find out right next to him??

also, do you think the characters of the original timeline just never get their mc back and have to live with that, or do you think the dying mc vanishing means that timeline ceased to exist? or maybe you think they did end up going back through the door to their original timeline? but that would leave the “new” timeline with no mc... personally, the timeline ceasing to exist is the easier pill for me to swallow :’D

how do u figure that ur better than average at something?

Well, as a narcissist, I hungrily internalize every scrap of evidence that I might be, and tantrum as long as it takes to stop believing/feeling any evidence that I'm not

First, a caveat: as I've gotten older, better, and (most significantly) emotionally healthier, I've gotten less confident that I'm better than average at anything. More on that in a bit.

For many things, there are two very strong, hard-to-dispute empirical tells of superiority, once you've been doing it long enough, and know enough to guage what the base rate is:

Actual measurable success - when I do the thing vs when other people do the thing, do I consistently, reproducibly tend to have better-than-average results? (Even if it's just in a way that only I value as better.)

Atypically high compliments/praise/feedback - this one is more liable to false positives, but if you're better than average at something, you'll start to get positive feedback which you eventually realize other people aren't normally/ever getting.

(bonus secret third thing, just congealed into a concrete point right now) Regularly being surprised/disappointed when you predict that someone will do better, because you didn't even conceive of their error/shortcoming. Conversely, people regularly act/speak in ways that only make sense if they couldn't conceive of you/anyone actually being at the level you're at.

There's some overlap: if you're better than average at helping people with mind stuff, empirical success looks like positive feedback from them about how good of insights/advice/perspective/etc you give.

But back to that caveat: are you sure the observable average in your life isn't actually worse than the real average? There's the competence reflection / mirror fog point, which is a good reminder that absent sufficiently obvious-to-us empirical results, we just literally might be unable to recognize if the average is better than us. Then there's selection bias! I am increasingly sure that I've been unintentionally repulsive to people who are better than me in certain ways. I also just spent a lot of my life very socially withdrawn and uninterested in getting to know people, and seeing everything from a very limited yet judgy and fault-finding perspective.

Having said that, a couple examples:

I have strong evidence that I'm better than average at certain aspects of software development because:

The defect rate of my software is a lot better than typical, as is my ability to fix defects that do come up (because if my code breaks, it's probably in a way I predicted as I wrote it, so I know exactly where and why, we/I just decided it was a better trade-off to move forward and find out empirically if it'll actually happen). This seems to hold true even when we narrow "average" down to devs with the same years of experience, and compare effectiveness over the same time scales, etc.

When I share my ideas/thinking at work, people become more effective as software devs (again in terms of bugs in their code, how easy their code is to improve/change later even for them, how quickly other team members understand their code, etc), they learn things about how stuff works, I get formal review feedback describing my role/actions as "mentoring" and having unusually deep technical knowledge, etc

etc etc.

I have strong evidence that how I think, my mental methods for knowing/improving myself and shaping my mind, are better than average along a couple dimensions that matter to me, because:

In the few serious emergencies I've been in where physical bodily harm was/seemed an imminent risk, I'm always the only one immediately solving the situation, while literally everyone else around me is stunlocked for several seconds with deer-in-headlights surprise/shock/fear/lack-of-any-gameplan (and it often clearly would've been a longer stunlock if I wasn't there explicitly or implicitly giving them direction).

Whenever I and someone else remember something differently and it's actually possible to actually check, I'm usually right (but again, per the caveat, perhaps I'm just insufferable unless you can lean on "well, he is right...", and worse memory would provide that).

etc.

There's others but I think that's good enough to make the point. Empirical evidence of greater success in some relevant way will always shine through eventually if you really are better, although sometimes it is very indirect. But also there's all sorts of confounding factors and possibility that the average is better than we can yet see.

i love ur obm analyzations so much and i was re reading them, then a thought came to mind about diavolo, yk how he is the prince of the devildom aka future king, its a wonder why he is still the prince?? since its cannon the actual king went to sleep and isnt planning on returning back, so why isnt the king title passed down to diavolo? since the previous king retired, does he have to wait until he out lives his dad or does the resting king give him the title? its really confusing? it was also cannon that the now resting king was training diavolo to be king so even if he does not like diavolo he still would pass the king title…

a curious thought! they obm devs never addressed this, let alone explore how diavolo feels concerning his parents. we've only heard that his mother died giving birth to him, and (as we all know), his father is at rest.

because his father isn't technically dead, i'd assume that diavolo doesn't have the right to usurp someone who is MIA. this is why we don't hear of a coronation or the others treating him as a king, although they do recognize him as the utmost authority.

if you wanted to know my personal headcanon:

you'll notice that none of the high-ranking demons (the brothers, barbatos, mephistopheles) go by their true titles, “duke”. you can presume that this could be because as the mc, you're not largely subject to the same political and social rules as the rest of the devildom because you're living with the highest of the devildom hierarchy, but i like to believe that this is because diavolo actually chose to go further with reformation.

with the political revolution of insituting a free and public education for all and committees for public works that improve lives of the denizens, comes social change. it would be difficult to achieve peace and unity amongst demons when old, feudal structures from his father's time remained in place.

i think that this is the reason why diavolo, and the rest of the demon cast, dropped their formal titles. even diavolo is rarely, if at all, referred to as “prince diavolo”; they all hold the same weight and responsibility as their previous titles held, but chose to adapt with the newcoming age.

if his father did arise from his slumber, i would like to think that diavolo would hold his ground. after centuries of reshaping devildom society to better serve his dream of peace, of choosing to act instead of wait for something so futile, why would he give it all up so easily?

Just finished Valor Mountain!!!!! I am. Emotional. Powerful stuff. My OC already misses everyone (~~especially Adam~~) and GOD, there's a lot of good material in there for writing. It's a lot to take in but... it was all excellent! I felt drained, but that just goes to show I really connected with the game! I can't believe this arc is gonna be even better in the next update (with more Adam content among other things I'm pumped for.) I am so curious about the backstories and histories of the SAVB crew. I made a whole bunch of sprites and stuff, and building my own OC, Gabriel, made me connect and enjoy the game - I can't imagine playing the game without him. It's also fun for me to imagine my OCs relationships with the characters and how he'd approach all these questions and decisions. It makes me connect a whole lot more but I'm curious how it makes you feel as a Dev? (It's also very funny. I made Gabriel a little older when building him, so hearing characters refer to this massive wall of a man as a "kid" is very funny - then again he's a young adult still, he's 21/22 and I can believe many still consider that a kid lmao.) I do sometimes feel a little strange having my OC interact with characters in the game I'll admit. Maybe it's the deep-seated feeling of "cringe" of "OC/Canon" interaction that I just can't let go of. Not that I hate the concept, I personally love seeing people's OCS. Sorry for the long-winded ask! Can't wait to move on to Act 2 soon!

I love and heavily encourage people to play with their OCs! I'm pretty sure there are several hundred Rejuv OCs existing at this point lmao. I don't mind, and there are a few things in game I try to make OC friendly. Of course, the game was conceptualized/made without OC's in mind so some things end up a little weird, but overall I think people still have a positive experience with it.

Oh believe me when I say that I'm aware of that particular fic and that I believe it should be submitted to law enforcement, or at the very least struck from the site. I've reported that fic myself and do not stand with the admins for doing nothing about it. Ao3 is an archive, but it is one for fictional characters. The fact that some fucking pedophile out there posted a drawn-out fantasy about an actual minor is fucking disgusting, inexcusable, and warrants legal action against the writer. The author should be in jail for creating child pornography. If I ever met them, I'd beat the everloving shit out of them myself. My stance will never change on that.

However- and I hate to sound like I'm defending this at all- I think you missed the point of the original post, which is that reporting fictional depictions of child porn clutters up the searches done on actual child sexual exploitation material. My major gripe with antis is that their repeated claims that fictional csa is the same as irl csa puts actual minors in danger by 1.) cluttering up the case studies of people tracking down irl predators, and 2.) creating a sort of 'cry wolf' effect where predators who DON'T create public content involving csa are completely ignored, but people who have no attraction towards children that write gross shit (and im using ONLY FOR HORROR HERE, stuff like lolita and the like) are considered pedophiles. Both give irl predators a lot of leeway or extra time to groom or sexually assault children, which is unacceptable. The rpf involving a minor is also an extreme exception, so it should be counted as a statistical outlier that DOES warrent legal action vs the other small subsection of disgusting shit targeted at fictional characters that really should be locked behind like three fucking disclaimers and struck from the algorithm so nobody has to see that shit.

So yes, I hate it, but when it comes to shit like this, you have to be logical and admit that the vast majority of reported content should merely be ignored instead of reported, because it mucks up the system designed towards protecting actual children and punishing pedophiles. I feel slimy and gross for saying it, because I don't want to sound like I think that fictional csa is okay (it really isn't), but if I had a theoretical gun for shooting down suspected pedophiles, I'm pouring all of my bullets into the confirmed irl cases than the others. It's always better to protect actual children than risk the alternative.

As for rpf in general, I personally believe that it should be banned from the site altogether :P Throw tantrums all you want, but rpf will never not be a violation of privacy done without consent. Fanfiction should be for fictional entities only. The one exception I allow are for crackfics involving long-dead fuckers like Thomas Jefferson, but even then I draw the line at porn with them because again- that's fucking disgusting and still stands for a violation of privacy without consent.

Hello hello, bright Spark!! :D I had indeed played Octo1 before Octo2 even though they aren't related. It's same world, same religion and gods, different continent and different time period. Octo2 feels more industrial, more steampunk times and less medieval! :D If you haven't played Octo1 you can dive into 2 without an issue and I think I'd recommend it cause 2 is so vastly superior, I can't believe how polished it is!!

First of all, I am a slow player! Really, I'm savoring a lot as I play ;u; I like taking my time cause the game is absurdly gorgeous, the music is amazing and the characters are so lovable I'm dying. With that said, I've only finished Temenos and Osvald's stories, started everyone else's and progressing with Throne next!

The characters have cross path stories where they share a quest. I'm unaware how exactly it progresses, how long they are or what triggers them. I only got part 1 of Temenos and Throne, so in a way they do interact more. During their individual stories they don't.

Characters do have banters that are recorded in a journal so you can't miss them and they do feel more frequent but I played Octo1 long ago when it came out so... my memory is fuzzy!

Characters do address one another during combat a lot which in my opinion makes things more personal and dynamic. They encourage or worry for whoever is injured or applaud if broken the enemy :D That was missing from the first.

Story wise, from the intros alone the cast feels stronger to me. I genuinely am a lot more interested in everyone's stories. I read that the quest after you finish everyone's stories ties the narrative way better than Octo1 so I'm excited to see this too! In octo1 that quest was... a side quest that was very convoluted to trigger.

So by this alone it does feel a lot more lively? As in I can see and imagine the characters interact during travels a lot more than the previous cast. I'm yet to do more cross path stories or see how things tie at the end but I am beginning to see some story elements that appear in the chapters hinting to a common foe.

I still try to avoid spoilers whenever I can...cause I know I may take a while before I finish it XD it is seriously so good, so pretty, everyone has so much personality and everything is so well animated, I gush over the game like a lil kid holding a present under a christmas tree, hehe

Again take with a grain of salt all I say cause I enjoyed Octo1 a lot as well and the characters not interacting or their stories not overlapping never bothered me. I do think the devs took all the criticism and tried to make Octo2 better and they did while still keeping the idea of - 8 different paths. I love how they did it cause everyone's story is very personal and beyond banter between scenes, I don't think others should be interjecting. The banter between characters still makes it feel like they address what is happening while leaving the lead character be the star of their own story... as they should be.

i wanna start doing a new weekly thing on thursdays, the script roundup, where i post bits of the script i’ve posted on twitter over the week and i talk about my thoughts behind them. i had alot of fun making an earlier post where i did just that, and i think i’d enjoy making it a regular thing.

so here’s this week’s script roundup!

“relationships”

here we have altaria and rose mallow talking about, well, relationships.

relationships are pretty much the biggest connecting thread in lesbian deer story. i mean it’s in the name; your deer FRIEND. but sometimes friendships fall apart, and it sucks. sometimes ppl u love disappoint u, let u down, break ur heart. and sometimes u carry that heartbreak with u for a long time, and u ask urself alot of dumb questions like “how did i let this happen” or “where did i go wrong” etc.

writing is a funny thing. u put urself and ur demons bare on the page in alot of ways. u dig deep inside urself and put the ugliest, bloodiest parts of u onto the page for potentially the WORLD to see. it’s a weird feeling. and i think for alot of writers we do it this way bcuz it’s the best way we know to express and understand our own selves.

but also, broken relationships and the heartbreak that come with them aren’t isolated to any one artist. most ppl in this world have dealt with this. so by digging deep into one’s own demons, we can also show other ppl struggling with those same demons like, ur not alone. we can express solidarity with ppl this way, and i think that’s nice.

and now for something completely different, veronica, verbena and esme talking about goblins. veronica has a new color here different than last time cuz i realized at some point i couldn’t cover all the characters with the default colors of ms paint, so i started color picking from their official art to represent them in these script updates. it’s better this way i think.

there is no deeper meaning to this particular post, i just thought it was a silly exchange and i wanted to post it. i rly do like esme’s little goblin hands.

“say anything (part 1)”

snowdrop rants about some plot bullshit while esme in her narration explains the game being played. u ever argue with ppl online who are so clearly wrong but they just double and triple down on being wrong?? alot of times this is not out of ignorance, it’s just to rile up the opposing side.

this can be EXTREMELY FUNNY if u do it over something that doesn’t matter at all. if u have ever seen that post where the guy argues that sharks have smooth skin, that shit is a laugh riot! i make posts like that on twitter all the time!

but alot of ppl will use this approach to argue about politics that affect ppl’s life and death, which is significantly less funny. and it’s easy to take the bait and try to argue with ppl who are doing this, but it is quite literally a complete waste of ur fucking time, and u need to be able to recognize when the game is being played and when to disengage.

ppl can just SAY anything, even if they don’t believe it. u can’t always assume that ppl are arguing for something in good faith.

snowdrop kinda fumbles the ball here by talking too goddamn much; the best way to make use of this kinda argument is to be short and quippy.

if u look at that “sharks have smooth skin” post, the person arguing that sharks have smooth skin only ever argues in with one or two phrases at a time. usually just enough to say “sharks have smooth skin”, and then add on one absurd detail to rly put the screws on ppl who can’t handle seeing someone be wrong on the internet.

i wonder if snowdrop dropping the ball in this regard is a character thing, or if i’m just bad at being short and quippy myself [thinking emoji]. i think it’s probably both.

i posted these two on twitter together and they COMPLETELY FLOPPED lmao. ZERO notes, except one (1) from my girlfriend who is a sweetheart and will like even my most dogshit posts. despite that, i’m still rly proud of how they turned out, especially this second part.

back when trump was running for president the first time, i watched him give a speech where he claimed he would be a “champion” for queer rights. OBVIOUSLY he was full of shit. obviously his track record on any sort of political issue, especially regarding rights for pretty much any minority group, is immediately evident and NOT GOOD. anyone with two braincells to rub together could tell that he was just fucking lying to win over the crowd and anyone who was watching on tv who happened to be ignorant or credulous. i was neither of those things.

AND YET. i distinctly remember watching that and, KNOWING he was full of shit, still wanting to buy into his hype anyway. i snapped out of it pretty quickly, but in that moment i understood the power of two things: charisma, and DESPERATION.

snowdrop’s dialogue here is pretty much verbatim what i remember trump saying, and esme’s narration is a pretty thorough summation of my feelings. u can just SAY anything! and u KNOW the person is lying to ur face, AND YET!!! if u WANT to believe them badly enough, you’ll make urself do it. if u WANT to hear the lie that they’re telling u, if u WANT to believe that it’s true, if ur SO DESPERATE to hear SOMEONE tell u that sweet lie, u will make urself believe it.

this ties back into the relationships thing too. if ur in a relationship that’s falling apart, it’s easy to convince urself that things are fine or that they can be fixed if u just want it bad enough. it’s easy to stay in something that’s bad for u, even something that’s killing you, if ur desperate enough for the comfort the lie provides.

On the surface, there's no way you'd think that working in the video game industry would be an "risky" career. The industry is worth $10.5 billion annually. The average game designer, animator, or artist earns $74,000 a year, while programmers make $93,000 (sources ESRB, Gamasutra]. This is just the salary benefits: You can also play video games at work, brag to colleagues that your job involves playing video games at work, and generally delight in the fact that everyone believes that you get paid to play video games at work. This may or may not be true however it makes you feel more popular than Chad who works at the bank.

However. And while there are lots of jobs available, they lack the security you'd be expecting. So let's examine a few reasons that the game industry has a reputation for instability and inspect whether working in gaming is as it's made out to be over the long run.

One thing to be aware of when seeking a steady career in gaming is that it's largely a feast or famine existence for the studio, not necessarily in terms of revenue, but in terms of production. The gaming industry's "feast" includes an infamous "crunch". That's when the game is launching soon (although be aware that "soon" could be months away) and the team that is responsible for the game is working long hours to finish the task. To meet the deadline, the studio may employ a large number of employees.

After a studio launches a game it's been working for (probably) years but it's left with a staff of people who may not be as effective in the preproduction stages of the next game. So what can the studios do? They can let them go. If they're "lucky," they might be hired back in a couple of months to work on the next project [source: Schreier].
