Summary:

Hi! This was a fun one to think about and I smiled when I got it in my inbox!! As is usual with these longer ramble / hc posts everything will go under the cut :)

So I feel like the premise for this is that all my alternate history / women in the military stuff is in the same set of spreadsheets and is pretty much set up like this:

Because it was a lot easier to just keep it all together, I ended up color-coding it just so I know where everything was, which then lent itself to “huh I can really just insert everybody into the same universe” when it came to those two groups. If Dick and Ginny weren’t a thing this would just be a megaverse but SBT exists in its own little universe

It’s essentially some accelerated Women’s Military History coupled with a nice dosage of suspension of disbelief

In this verse the WAC(WAAC? I dunno) Act is passed in October of 1940 when FDR is in his “we aren’t going to War but we are definitely kinda sorta preparing for War," era. I’m gonna keep it a buck — I do not remember when I made the WASPs be founded because in real life they were founded in ‘43, but just know it’s some time later in ‘41. All of which to say in this universe they allow women to be flight instructors because teaching is considered a feminine job, and many of them at the beginning (our lovely girls included) are transfers from the WAC! :)

Pearl Harbor happens, big push for COED armed forces after a demonstration from the lady flight instructors for the head of the AAF and other Big Brass Military Guys

Bill is passed first to allow female infantry, and then women in the air (but only in crews of all women or all men). Coed crews don’t become a thing until later on in the war

Anyways! With that in mind! Mouse Hole girls and Charlie’s paragals!

I think innately there is a sense of solidarity as women in a warzone, blazing a trail whether they wanted to do that specifically or not.

Paulina and June are either going to love each other or hate each other — no in between because they parallel each other in quite a few ways (only girls in their households, strong cultural identities, smart mouths)

I could throw in some tie between Alice and Viv as WACs prior to the bill getting passed & joining the AAF and Paratroopers, which would be fun for me personally

But I think Charlie and Viv are very very different — Viv steps into the position of leadership she's chosen for ready & willing; Charlie is essentially dragged into it because she's a bit of a natural even though she wants nothing to do with it. It'd take a minute for them to connect in a meaningful way. I think Charlie and Willie get along a bit better though since they're both fairly quiet people

You know who take to each other like birds of a feather? Max and Lena. Wisecrackers over here. I think Max and Lorraine would get along pretty well because they're both very competitive

And of course... Louise and Carrie, as sweet girls and the little sisters of their collective groups. That's the one that would have Charlie and Viv staring and then looking at each other and "Ah, I get it now."

In any "official" / canonical sense it'd probably be knowing of each other through newspapers and magazines; Fern is an heiress of course so she's all over that, Viv is everywhere because she has the face and the charisma for it. On the paragals end of things it's definitely Alice as their lone Lady Lieutenant, and possibly Maxine (because you put your star players on the cover of the game, of course. Nice respectable looking girls to combat that "khaki fever" rumor about the kinds of girls joining up)

But put them all in a room together and there's a positive kind of chaos I can see forming there. I'm a big fan of female friendship. We all know this. Also! Charlie and Willie are both artists so that's something to bond over [ *distant internal dick and Brady screaming soundbite* ]

Side note: if I did some "what if the mouse hole girls were PARATROOPERS" type thing I do think they'd be in Dog Company. Why? Because it's funny, that's why.

a/n: a note beforehand for some revised world building: so instead of the canon version of everyone celebrating 'holidays/events' in their own court, i thought it would be cooler if the celebrations were held in the court themed after it! for example everyone would go to the spring court for calanmai, summer court for summer solstice, night court for starfall, etc. and i've done just that for the summer solstice celebration in this little fic! oh and also high ladies are just a normal Thing in this au.

“Keep clear of Bhaltair’s sons.” Nesta’s whisper, so close to the shell of her ear, sent an involuntary shiver up Feyre’s back, even as she glanced up and across the crowded Summer Palace at the three honey-blond males standing near the High Lord of Spring like sentinels.

An irritated gust of wind left Nesta’s lips. “Don’t look.”

“Sorry.” She wasn’t. Nesta should’ve known better than to tell her not to do something.

“Just— Be careful.” Her sister’s eyes rolled, mouth set in a thin line. “From what I hear, they’re not a far step from their father.” And with that she set a path towards the gardens, no doubt seeking Elain, the dusky purple of her dress trailing after her.

Sipping delicately at the faerie wine clutched in her hand, Feyre risked another glimpse at the offending High Lord and his sons, eyes peering over her glass, guided by the almost electric feeling in the air brought on by the Summer Solstice celebrations.

The eldest was standing closest to his father, an air of arrogance strong enough for her to feel from even across the room surrounding him. He spoke in tandem to the High Lord’s cadence — learning how to play court politics from someone who was well versed in it — as other High Fae sought them out.

The second, most distinguishable from the generous length of his hair, did nothing to hide the bored, irritated look on his face, though he stood diligently by his father and brothers’ sides.

The youngest . . . Feyre’s gaze lingered on him where he stood behind them all. He was dressed similarly to his brothers, in rich, airy clothing of warm greens and wood brown, though the tunic clung a little tighter to his chest than the others. His head was angled slightly downward, arms loosely clasped behind him, a neutral expression on his face.

A flicker of kindred loneliness flew through her. Bhaltair and the High Lady of the Dusk Court were not so different in the ways they showed their youngest children affection.

As if he could feel that twinge of emotion, his eyes suddenly lifted, brilliant green cutting through the room and snagging onto hers. Feyre nearly jumped, dropping her gaze and taking another sip of the faerie wine to busy herself, as her heart thundered in her chest. When she gained the courage to peek in his direction again, she saw he was no longer looking at her, but a wide, dimpled smile curved his mouth.

It was her turn to make an irritated noise, setting her glass down on the nearest table, and weaving effortlessly through the crowd, intent on not sparing the youngest another glance. The cacophony of the celebrations slowly died out as she walked further and further away, making the sound of following footsteps all the more prominent.

Still, she didn't look back.

Not until it felt like she and him were the only two people in the entire Summer Palace. Only then did she stop short, abruptly grabbing the door handle to what she knew was an empty room and threw it open. A soft laugh chased her in, and the two of them stumbled into the dark room, his hand finding hers, fingers twining as he placed a kiss upon the back of it.

The door closed shut. "Did I do something wrong?" Even in the dark, she could hear the smile in his voice.

Feyre didn't pull her hand from his — she'd missed the touch of him too much — but she held herself from completely melting in his embrace. "Besides making it very obvious that we're not exactly strangers?"

He was quiet for a moment, his thumb stroking over her skin. "It's not easy when you look at me like that." Something kicked in her chest at the soft way he teased her. Not at the insinuation that her own perusal of him wasn't very stealthy either. But at the thoughts, the feelings that had occupied her for the briefest of seconds.

He had felt it — that drop of loneliness welling within her — even with a crowd of fae between them.

Understanding that she wasn't ready to speak about it yet, he went to his knees in front of her, one hand stroking up her bare leg, through the slit down the side of her dress. "I know a few ways I could beg for forgiveness."

Heat scorched through her and his palm felt like a brand upon her skin. Feyre's breath hitched, "Then beg."

A sharp, feral grin replaced his moments-ago soft laughter and Feyre was reminded that despite all the pleasantry and the fine clothing, he was as wild and unbidden as a spring storm.

But before he could put that mouth to good use, her fingers clutched at his chin and she tilted his face upward, earning a low chuckle of approval. "Tamlin," she warned, "Watch your claws this time." Feyre felt his fingers flex over the back of her thigh, rising higher. "It was easy to convince mother the tear in my dress was my own clumsiness, but I think Nesta's suspicious."

Tamlin turned his face into the palm of her hand, placing a kiss there as he murmured, "I'll be careful. I'm sorry."

Again, she felt that kick to her heart. And the image of him kneeling in front of her, the husky confession falling from his lips, the thrill of being cloaked in darkness— control and caution was quickly slipping through her fingers.

Feyre pulled him upward even as she descended, meeting him halfway in a searing kiss. He quickly rose to his feet again, lifting her into his arms, her thighs framing his hips, her back pressed against the nearest wall. Until there was not even a breath of space between them.

"Tamlin." A breathless gasp of his name. Somewhere between a demand and a plea, and he understood as he traced his affections over her skin.

Here, in this clandestine pocket of their world, she could pretend they were miles away.

Here, she felt the rhythm of his heart beneath her palms and knew that it beat for her.

a/n: basically what if the secret rendezvous utm was done in a less stressful (less lives on the line) situation. named after the moonvine flower because they bloom at dusk (feyre) + they're flowers (tamlin) can you tell im so good at fic titles. hope you guys enjoyed this one!

alright, folks. time for a serious conversation.

it's just been brough to my attention that some people are under the impression my samantha winchester portrayal in particular is transphobic because she's a genderbent version of a canon character. there's a couple of things that i want to clarify: first of all, this is something i fully intended on adding as a section in my rules because i know this is a hot topic in the rp community, i just haven't gotten around to it because as stated in my rules, this blog is very low effort and most of the time when people interact with samantha, i will go through the two separate aus i have with them privately.

now, i'm not gonna get into my skin in the game for this because, honestly? it's just gonna cause a stir because people can't respect when people have different perspectives on sensitive topics.

but, i want to clarify something: i only use "genderbent" potrayals of canon characters in universes where the multiverse is a canon thing. both in supernatural and in the marvel universe, you have different versions of canon characters that exist in different universes. sometimes the only thing they share in common with the "canon" version of that character you're familiar with is their name and their connections. the only exception to this would be alana bloom, but the same argument can be made that she is so far removed from the canon alan bloom that she's her own different character.

that being said, i absolutely will not accept the argument that my portrayals of toni stark and at the present moment, samantha winchester are transphobic. you might disagree with me on that, and gb portrayals might be icky for you for your own perspective and beliefs, and that's absolutely okay. i'm not gonna sit here and try to argue this and change your mind because i can absolutely respect everyone is entitled to have their own POV on things. my interpretation and my idea of the gender spectrum can be so very different from yours and that's just that.

i have never, and will never force anything on anyone. it's why my blog is dead dove. it's why i have so many warnings saying that i will write things that are upsetting, triggering, etc.

now: samantha's main verse is that she's from a separate timeline and universe where she does not throw lucifer back into the cage, and she shares her body with him in an apocalypse croatoan virus universe. it's one of the many separate and alternate universes/timelines that chuck has created. he has admitted to creating an universe where people have dog noses. so yeah, i'm fully supportive of the idea he plays around with the genders of his main characters in different universes. but the important thing to note is that samantha isn't canon sam, and i didn't just take canon male sam and turn him into a cis woman. she is, like alan bloom, her own separate entity and character, who happens to share the same name, a similar backstory and same connections as this one canon character.

the second verse for her is that she's sam's twin sister who has either (also separate from main canon) been raised with the boys or just been separated from them from birth for whatever reason best fits the plot and is now back into their lives.

now i'm only making this post and making this distinction because it's both important to the character's portrayal for the future but also i don't want to have to deal with folks throwing around "transphobic" when it comes to me when that's so far from who i am and what i believe in. are there instances that gb is done in a harmful way? absolutely. most of the time from my experience in the rpc, it is that way. it's why i ABSOLUTELY understand that people aren't willing to interact with gb portrayals. for the most part, i never interacted or had gb portrayals. but this version of the character has been living in my head for MONTHS and i just had to let her out. i am never one to hold back on my creativity and this isn't any different. but since i do write alana and toni, i felt like it was worth mentioning my take on this as a whole in case i add any other characters from marvel like this.

i normally don't feel like i have to explain myself on anything that i do because if people don't agree/like what i do, blocking and not interacting with me is an option you have and even if we have mutuals, you can blacklist me and never have to see anything i post. just because we have different opinions doesn't mean i'm a bigot, or that i'm not allowed to exist with my creative ideas in the same space as you do.

In an alternate universe Jace born girl but has brothers instead of sisters. It's Aegon vs the brothers of the girl of his dreams (instead of Scott Pilgrim we have Aegon and instead of a league of evil ex-boyfriends we have very protective brothers with a lot of free time on their hands) Daemon has a lot of fun in this verse.

This concept greatly amuses me, although I love Luce and Joff too much to write them out of any universe.

It might be fun if there was a universe where little Alyssa is actually born as Aegon the Younger like in canon, and he’s betrothed to Jace. Then we would have two Aegons fighting each other, but really it’s just Aegon the Elder having beef with a baby while Aegon the Younger has no idea what’s happening, because he’s a baby.

Patrick's background in this reality is no different than his main verse - removed from his mother's care after her arrest for attempted infanticide and raised in several foster home, he ran away from home at 16 and left Europe at 20 after being arrested on false charges, escaping prison by faking his death.

Hia travels eventually brought him to Yokohama, where he found employement at Aki no Tsuki, working as a bodyguard and bouncer while pretending to be one of the 'entertainers'.

James Joyce

In this alternate reality, he never joined the army to fight in the Great War, sparing himself many years of grief.

Similarly to his main verse, he works at Bar Lupin, only instead of simply being the bar manager, he's also the owner (rather than simply being mistaken as such) and main bartender.

When working, he uses the alias Yukio Mishima. He seems to have a friendly relationship with Aki no Tsuki.

Murasaki Shikibu & Ted Geisel

Just like the main reality, Murasaki and Ted are employed at Bar Lupin, Murasaki as a full-time waitress and pastry chef and Ted as a busboy and barback / barkeep-in-training.

Murasaki, while still a former employee of the Seventh Agency, doesn't work with either the Port Mafia nor the Armed Detective Agency, although she's familiar with both thanks to a few regular clients.

Arthur Conan Doyle & Henry Poe

Rather than being employed at Bar Lupin, they're both regular clients of the bar.

In this reality, Henry had found Edgar and the two of them are travelling together looking for their missing younger sister.

Unlike the main reality, Arthur didn't succumb to guilt upon discovering the Order's ruthless practices and was kicked out, but effectively defected and is in hiding. He's a little more stable than in the main universe, though just as eccentric.

-Once, Gaster sent his three kids out to buy eggs (Sans was 15). They came back with a carton of eggs, and a young hen held in his youngest’s arms.

-The Hen stayed, was named Garfield, and became the main source of eggs in the house. They do not know how Garfield has lived as long as she has, the running theory is that she’s God

-There is, in fact, a cultish following for Garfield the Hen, mostly occupied by awe-struck children

-They all love animated movies, Inside Out is Papyrus’s fav movie, Sans will always stand with Anastasia, and Fenris will fight to the death over Fox and the Hound

-They have a box of pet-toys that belong to Garfield and Fen exclusively, and each of them know whose is whose

-Garfield lives in the house, and has a harness-vest to go on walks with. Everyone in Snowdin knows shes off limits, allowed to strut around like the queen she is

-Wolf! Fenris is also the softest-floof-dog you’ll ever meet (it’s because of Papyrus and the shampoo he forces onto her)

While Wolf!Fenris does not wear clothes, she will wear a harness. Fenris’ clothes do not get ruined by transformation, and seemingly disappear until she turns back into a human. Wolf!Fenris will also be wearing a collar, usually with a tracker on it (mostly in Fell verses or worlds where she needs to track things down. She is often helpful in finding missing people), but this collar will not always appear on human Fenris.

The only time her clothes get ruined is during a forced half-transformation, where Fenris is more-so becoming a werewolf instead. There are two level’s to Werewolf transformation, the half-transformation, and the full. Full Werewolf transformation does not ruin the clothes despite form’s size. Werewolf is different than Wolf.

December 29th - Mary Jane ‘MJ’ Watson

Mary Jane ‘MJ’ Watson was born to Philip and Madeline Watson.  Mary Jane’s father was a college professor and his various teaching assignments caused the family to move around quite frequently throughout Mary Jane’s childhood and early adolescence.  Philip and Madeline eventually divorced and MJ and her mother moved in with Madeline’s sister in Queens.  One night, a now teenage Mary Jane spotted her neighbor, Peter Parker, changing into his costume as the Amazing Spider-Man.  MJ chose to keep this matter a secret and not long thereafter became good friends with Peter and circle of buddies. She also entered into a romance with Peter’s good pal, Harry Osborn.

Mary Jane dreamed of becoming a dancer and actress, yet needed to put these dreams on hold when her mother fell ill.  She took a number of jobs to help pay bills and sadly her mother passed away.  Afterward, MJ returned to pursuit of a career in the performing arts, determined to make it as a means of honoring her mother’s memory.    

Being close friends with Peter often resulted in Mary Jane becoming embroiled in the adventures of Spider-Man.  Though she was often forced into the role of the damsel in distress, there were also plenty of time where MJ’s moxie and quick thinking enabled her to save the day.  Mary Jane and Peter became closer after the tragic death of Peter’s girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, as MJ helped Peter work through the tremendous guilt and grief he was experiencing.  Some time thereafter, Mary Jane broke thing off with Harry and, following a long courtship, she and Peter became romantically involved.  Herein Mary Jane divulged that she had always known of Peter’s dual life as Spider-Man.  

Mary Jane and Peter later married and enjoyed a brief time as husband and wife.  Some time later, Peter’s identity as Spider-Man was revealed to the public and it all resulted in his Aunt May being killed.  Peter knew that his being Spider-Man was putting Mary Jane in great peril.  At this time he was approached by the demonic entity known as Mephesto.  The entity proposed a devil’s bargain wherein Aunt May would be resurrected and the world would forget Peter’s identity as Spider-man; yet in exchange Peter and Mary Jane had to sacrifice their love for one another.  Seeing no other choice, the couple accepted these conditions and it was as if Mary Jane and Peter had never been a couple.  

Mary Jane returned to her life as a model and actress.  She later opened a successful night club in New York City.  The club was destroyed by the forces of The Hobgoblin and Mary Jane ended up recruited to act as head of public relations for Stark International.  

Throughout various interactions with Peter and Spider-Man, the two could detect a strange closeness between them (a remnant of the past life prior to the machinations of Mephisto).  It seems clear that the two are meant to be together and hopefully they will reunite in the future.  

There have been numerous instances where MJ has found herself acting in the role of a superhero.  She gained spider-powers during the Spider-Island event and later donned the Stark-designed Iron-Spider armor during a crisis at Stark International.  In an alternate reality, had Peter not accepted Mephisto’s offer and Mary Jane would have gone on to become the spider-based super heroine, Spnierette.    

Actress Kristen Dunst portrays Mary Jane in the Sony Films Spider-man trilogy; actress Shailene Woodley portrays the character in The Amazing Spider-Man 2; actress Zedenya portrays an altered version of MJ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; and actress Zoë Kravitz voices the character in the animated feature Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

Mary Jan Watson first appeared in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #25 (1965).

Let’s talk about Star Trek and gatekeeping.

As an autistic person, Star Trek is my thing. It’s my obsession, my constant hyper fixation, and I can quote lore, obscure facts, and recite entire episodes. Basically, I’d crush it at Star Trek trivia night.

As a major fan of Trek, I love TOS specifically. Spock is my dude, the rest of the crew are practically my best friends. I’ve watched each episode countless times, and I know the movies by heart. As someone who’s autistic, I find comfort in the familiar and I struggle with change. And boy howdy, there has been a lot of change with the new series. Spock’s character specifically, between JJ Abrams, Discovery, and Strange New Worlds, has undergone several major transformations.

But! The thing about change and Trek is that it’s a constant. There’s the built-in possibility of change at any moment, and in order for any “true” Trek fan to keep their salt they need to remember that mirror verses and multiverses are canon, that IDIC is the name of the game, and yes, fan fiction is the lifeblood of the series. You can’t have one without the other.

Consider this. Star Trek carved out the modern fan fiction genre, and it saved Trek. The series was originally cancelled after two seasons, and was only brought back through the fan base that kept it alive through fan fiction.

If the hundreds of thousands of different interpretations, backstories, characterizations, and alternate universes that fan fiction presents, and if the hundreds of “official” novelizations exist, then new content is par for the course. Any Trek fan has to be willing to accept that lore is fluid. If a fan doesn’t get that, or tries to convince another fan that their opinions are invalid because they are fans of the new content? They’re the one who isn’t a “true” fan, because anyone that can’t accept the possibility of other interpretations and dismisses new content, they are missing the entire premise of the series.

Personally, I love SNW’s take on Spock and Kirk. (That handholding!) I love that Spock gained a sister in Discovery. I love Picard’s storyline. I love the silliness of Lower Decks, and I miss Prodigy.

If certain fans can’t accept new content and try to gate keep your enjoyment? Pull a rebel Spock: throw up the ta’al, transform it into the middle finger, and say you hope they ‘expire soon and fail.’ 🖖🏽

For the WIP Game! @larkral asked about Sour patch kids, which is a Mordelia fic set in the Jelly Babies universe!

Sour patch kids is about Mordelia's friendship with Cam Petty who is (in the Jelly Babies 'verse) Gregory's older sister. I can't remember if I mentioned this anywhere, but she is (fun fact!) a canonical character. She's Nico & Ebb's niece, the one who confuses Nico for Ebb when he shows up at the Peckham house at Christmas.

Because I'm...... me, I took a character who has literally like two lines, gave them a name, made them gay, and then wrote a whole story about them. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯  That's kind of my jam!

One of my alternate titles for this story was This story doesn't end with a kiss. I wanted to write a story that was about love but not necessarily romance between the two main characters, about loneliness and queerness and friendship. Because that just seemed Neat.

They’re grinning at each other in that way they have, not only like they’ve a secret but they’ve pulled off some marvellous prank, and by the time someone’s called a fire truck, they’ll already be gone, running off hand in hand and laughing like hooligans.
