Continuing with the theme of dating apps, how exactly do they work? How do their match-making algorithms work to connect us with our potential life partners? These are the questions many prospective users are asking, especially as the list of apps available for their use grows exponentially. 

Dating apps draw on major principles of interpersonal attraction, which is a topic of heavy focus among social psychologists. Interpersonal attraction is a type of attraction between people that dictates whether a relationship will occur between them, and what kind of relationship it will be. Interpersonal attraction comes into play with platonic and romantic relationships. 

There are several different principles which impact how interpersonal attraction develops. The Internet has learned to cater to this principle in a way that we have never seen before. 

Firstly, dating apps of all calibers provide individuals with the new opportunity to get a representative view of potential partners. When meeting a stranger in person, you know nothing about them at first. Dating app profiles often list individuals’ jobs, school, age, interests, hobbies, and even some of their more niche preferences, such as if they drink/smoke, or if they prefer to steer clear of these activities. These profiles help users to decide not only whether or not they’re attracted to the individual’s physical appearance, but also if they feel that they are similar to their potential partner. 

Some dating apps take this idea a step further. Dating apps and websites like “Altscene”, “Farmers Only”, “Sea Captains Date”, and “Tabby” cater to a specific audience with a specific interest or identity facet. “Altscene” is a website that allows individuals who have an alternative look or alternative interests to mingle with similarly “Alt” users, and the other sites all operate in similar ways for other individual interests. There have been no reports yet on whether or not these niche dating sites are more effective, but given the principles of interpersonal attraction at play when searching for new partners, it’s clear why they are appealing to prospective users.

Fic: Sanvers Alt-Valentine’s Day

Hey everyone,

Really quick. I’m not really a fanfic writer. I mostly write other kinds of things. But, I decided to do this fanfic, because of my response to the Valentine’s Day episode that was supposedly Sanvers centric. If you’ve watch Whoosh Bang Pow’s reaction video on Youtube, I pretty much don’t hold back on how I feel about the whole episode.

But the thing that really made me upset was watching some reaction videos of fans that were so excited to watch it. How happy they seemed and then to watch them see how Sanvers was handled and how little time they actually had. My heart sank as I watched the changes in their faces, the tone in their voices. How do you do that to a fandom that’s supported your show? I probably wouldn’t have been as upset if the show hadn’t promoted it as something to get excited about. We deserved better scenes, so I wrote 4 scenes for you guys. Thank you to JuliDG for convincing me that I should write this. Please take it easy on me, as I wrote this fairly quickly. Just know my heart was in the right place.

Before she hands Maggie her coffee, she kisses her on the forehead. Maggie puts the paper down and takes the cup into her hand.
