I would visit my mom and I would walk towards her and she’d say, ‘hi, are you here to see me?’ I would reply, ‘yes, mom, you are my mother!’ She would say, ‘oh lucky me!’ And we’d have our visit. I’m crying as I write this. It was unbearable, yet I miss her. This pic is of me hanging out with her...I’d just keep staring because if I stared long enough, I’d see that ‘glimmer’ that was her. But I had to never look away or I’d miss it. That moment where the sparkle is her, not the shadow of #alz this was my pocket of #happy I’d look for her in there, every time. My heart goes out to those of you who have a loved one going through this. I’m so sensitive when it comes to people suffering from dementia or Alz. . My mother passed away 2 years ago (on the 30th) from complications due to dementia. - My take on it? It robs everyone involved but leaves the most fucked up “change” in the family’s emotional pocket. . Caregiving to those with this complication is life altering... Especially as the stages eradicate & sweep out all the personality & gifts that person had... It’s a dirty life destroying road that cauterizes creativity, relationships & even all hope at times. . Compassion & Love is the only way to stay grounded in this shit storm. Dementia. The best math to fight it? Perseverance+Love because the outcome is heartbreaking. - You have to fight despair for the one relying on you.. 💗 they need family, friends & support in these last stages more than ever.
