Me and Egon got attacked by a loose dog today but it was a miniature dachsund dragging its flexi leash on the ground and when it approached and made a lunge I just stuck my leg out and stepped on the leash and stopped it dead in its wee little tracks and it was so shocked that it didn't even want to fight anymore and actually greeted Egon politely after that lmfaooo

One of the great pros of purebred dog ownership is running into people who own the same breed.

I ran into a gentleman at the park with a tervuren (!) who is fifteen years old (!!). He told me he used to do agility with her. He wished me luck with Zaku. Lovely dog and lovely man.

Later I took the boys for an outing to Home Depot and while we were in line a guy with an ambully was right behind us and he told me he had three dachshunds at home and they were all in a calendar! He said Kermie is very handsome.

It's fun!

Hank had some ambully show up on his DNA test. Before I tested him I never guessed that he had any bully breed in his make-up, but in hindsight it makes sense because after he lost his pre-adoption weight/before he got sick he was always buff as hell despite the fact that he slept 21 hours per day and didn’t usually move faster than a slow walk.

Yesterday.

My best friend, Tristan the teensy weensy Border Collie, and I got to hang out a bunch. He is allergic to listening to anyone that isn't his owner, which is sort of a bother because he's the dog that retrieves, pens, and sets up the stock for trials, but he is damn good at his job and the sweetest dog in the world.

Grandpa Anatolian (left - I cannot remember his name!), such a sweetie who laid himself directly on my feet and decided he wasn't going to budge. And my friend Yuki (right), who is a teenage boy but I love him anyway. He's allowed to look wonky! He's a growing boy! A growing boy who is MUCH larger than I am!

Anyway - it was a great day. Got to help take photos of bottle baby lambs and kids, got to hold the sweetest baby lambs, got to play with puppies and play puppysitter, got demanded pets, and got some goose eggs I'm really pumped about trying. Posting about it now because I got home and slept 14 hours. Now I have to work on my finals... and look forward to a UKC show (where I am meeting some Anatolians not pictured, my favourite little Ambully, and two Spoo pups) and a GSD Specialty.

French herding was really neat to watch, btw - I'm not a Groen guy, but it was so educational to watch one of the herding trials put on by the BSCA for their National. Very cool!

Big weekend for babydog! He graduated from running 1/2 the length of the field to 3/4 length, and today was introduced to box training. When he's racing other dogs, they'll be released from the box like in greyhound racing to ensure a fair start for everyone.

I had a friend hold him in the entrance to the box with the exit door open and a clear view of the lure. And as soon as the lure moved she released him to run. This builds an association so the box = fun lure chasing time. She says he was perfect, so this was an excellent introduction.

As for me, I'm getting lots of experience lure operating for all kinds of breeds and sizes. Some of the dogs I lure opped for this weekend included whippets and greyhounds, salukis, afghans, border whippets and other lurchers, an ambully, silken windhounds, dachshunds, terriers of various flavors, and a floppy labrador puppy. The whippet and greyhound races no longer terrify me like they used to, which is great! I'm also getting much better about judging where to stop the lure at the end of the race.

My goal this year is to learn how to lure op for lure coursing. I'm told it's way different than straight racing, so it should be a fun challenge.
