Hi there!

This is my submission for @ammo0648’s DTIYS! After looking at the other submissions, i noticed my submission was a little different 😅 i hope thats alright! I thought itd be cool if Kai was a warm colored sillouhete with cool colored waves all around him, because the fire represents his will!

Im still getting the hang of markers, and i think that i should start making my characters bigger because I never do that, but im really happy with how this turned out!

i also tried to make it season 1 inspired with the outfit and everything of him passing on the torch to lloyd,, and make him look a little bit younger than i normally draw him

A dark place of truth

Wanted to add stuff his design so i added a necklaces and those sleeve thingies (idk what they're called but they look pretty)

It's...overwhelming. The intensity of the light. The brilliance of the fire. The sheer brightness scorches his eyes as Kai beholds it, making him want to drive into the dark as much as he's drawn into the glow. It swathes him in warmth just as it paints him in shade. And he can't figure out which of the two he prefers more as protection.

He's been in the dark for so long that it's become a friend. It's shielded him from the harsh truths of the world, himself, and the realities his choices have wrought...

Yet this newfound fire (or perhaps, a flame that was always there, just with a reignited spark, one he'd been keen to avert his eyes from until now) promises him answers, a clear path forward, things he's gone so long without...and yet, he fears just what he'll find should the shadows fade away—should there be anything left to find at all.

He wonders if he's truly willing to take another blind step through the dark, with uncertain horror shooting up his body with every shaken, unconfident footfall. But the flame upon the torch, though it roars with life, could be just as easily snuffed out with a wavering breath. He's not sure if he's strong enough to keep it lit. Of if he wants to put in the effort to do so.

...but at least, if he keeps carrying his torch...he'll be more certain of where he's going. He'll be able...to keep guiding himself forward.

The problem is, he'll also be very aware of where he's been as well.

And he's far more afraid of being forced to look back.
