I know this isn’t how the book ended, but during the police chase in Delirium, my mind was already playing out an ending of its own. 

Alex and Lena had both dismounted the motorcycle and realized they had nowhere left to run. They were caught in the helicopter’s beam, a single spotlight trapping them in that moment in time. Regulators and police officers run towards them in slow motion while they stand together, holding hands, foreheads and noses touching. The wind whips their hair around their faces, almost dancing, as a tear runs down the side of Lena’s face. At the same time, they come to the conclusion that this is the end. Their end.

And it’s better than Romeo and Juliet because they go out together, holding on until the very last moment where the world explodes in gunfire.

I really wish I could draw that.

hi ! sorry, hanahaki anon here, I didn’t think to explain the concept before - im rather surprised dramiome doesn’t have more of this trope considering the vast amounts of angst available for writers to utilise. but it’s a soulmate concept for all intents and purposes.

it’s born from unrequited love. personA will gradually start to throw up petals more frequently, eventually leading to full blown flowers the longer their feelings go unrequited. only real, romantic and requited feelings can stop this without any further harm done. an alternative is for personA to go through surgery and have the disease removed from their lungs - but this has repercussions in which personA will lose any associated feelings (and in some versions may even lose their memories of personB). if neither happens, person A will eventually suffocate and die.

yes it’s all rather traumatising and angsty but i mean, what can you do🤷‍♀️
