I wonder how many, if any, elements of LOTR we have Edith to thank for.
I mean, her husband was writing this stuff throughout their entire marriage, and he must’ve run some of it by her, if not all of it. Plus he based an entire character (Lúthien) on her, which she must’ve known. I wouldn’t be surprised if she looked over an early draft of LOTR and said “honey, come on, put an interesting female character somewhere in here,” a wish he most certainly granted via Éowyn.
I’ve heard rumors that JRR originally intended to pair Aragorn and Éowyn as a couple and then tragically kill off Éowyn, but Edith said “no way you’re making it that depressing” and insisted he change it. I’m not sure if this is true, but if so, thank you, Edith!
Also this may be a stretch - and it probably is - but I wonder if she had something to do with his drastic changes to the Blue Wizards’ story. In the 50s he wrote that they probably fell to Sauron and started evil magic cults. Perhaps later on, Edith said “by the way honey, couldn’t those Blue Wizards have been better than that?” It was 1972, the year after Edith passed, that JRR wrote his updates to the Blue Wizards saying they were actually successful in turning many Easterlings away from Sauron. Perhaps he did so to honor an idea of hers?
If anyone has any sources mentioning any contribution from Edith, I’d love to hear about it.

One Dress a Day Challenge
November: Oscar winners
Samson and Delilah / Hedy Lamarr as Delilah
Year: 1950
Designers: Edith Head, Dorothy Jeakins, Elois Jenssen, Gile Steele and Gwen Wakeling
I've meant to revisit this spectacular dress ever since it first featured in Coeli's picks, and since today was Hedy Lamarr's birthday, this seems an appropriate time. Delilah wears a jaw-dropping array of costumes in this film, each one more sumptuous than the last. Just when you think they couldn't possibly top the last one, she shows up for the finale in this peacock gown!
The cape is lavishly adorned with real feathers. Legend says they were "donated" by the peacocks owned by Paramount Studios!
The costume was part of Debbie Reynolds' collection, and it has survived in remarkably good condition.

It's funny how I have a million duties as a stay-at-home mom... care for my children, feed them, teach them, read to them, take them to parks and on walks, find community, being a loving, calm (need to work on that -_-) mother who is the heart of the home...
... and also I have lots of hobbies like crochet and baking and cooking and drawing and journaling and bujo and reading and writing and I just started a new sourdough starter and have started a sashiko project. I do a lot of different things and what I'm most into changes (phases aren't a bad thing per se!) and there's things I'm better at than others. (though probably cooking is the most important/productive of these hobbies)
So when I read St. Edith Stein on woman's intrinsic value that...
"tends towards wholeness and self-containment in contrast to one-sided specialization"
and that
"consists chiefly in the ability 1. to become a complete person oneself; i.e., a person all of whose faculties are developed and coexist in harmony; 2. to help others to become complete human beings; 3. in all contact with other persons, to respect the complete human being."
and that
"lies in making room within herself for God's being and works"
... no wonder I am more peaceful and content and therefore the household is more peaceful and content when I have different duties and hobbies (and ensure I take time for myself and rest with a truly leisurely hobby that isn't phone-scrolling).
It's just such a contrast with the modern workforce where people become highly specialized. Certainly there are arguments for the benefits of becoming highly specialized, able to make progress in one's field of study (am I lauding progress as a virtue too much?), but I don't think that's always to everyone's advantage.
There's also the old saying "jack-of-all-trades, master of none" which I think is typically said in a derogatory tone but honestly I don't mind being a jack-of-all-trades since it suits my nature better and it's a better way to teach my children so that they have exposure to lots of different things, again in the aim of becoming a complete person.
Idk just lots of interesting thoughts and St. Edith Stein's work is so fascinating!

sometimes I cannot believe that a movie as incredible as Crimson Peak got a novelization which:
- shifts dialogue originally between a character and the rich wife he doesn’t love, to be between that character and his partner of ~22 years
- adds a bunch of random ~dark and spooky~ supernatural paraphenalia to a character’s bedroom...which is shown repeatedly onscreen and contains nothing of the sort
- swaps the song playing in the background of a murder scene for another, which seems meaningless until you realize that the original song was a hint at the identity of the unseen murderer
- keeps getting characters’ eye colors wrong, even giving different colors for the same character in different parts
and so much more!

thinking abt the new manga "not your typical reincarnation story"... i pirated it so now i have like 7 billion viruses in my phone and probably interpreted half the story wrong bc of mistranslations but it was so worth it
its so good so far... like i love how she doesn't just get placed into a story but there's a higher being (the author) that controls the plot so she can't just bend it at will. i also love how strong-willed the fl is. instead of waiting for something to happen, she stands up for herself, never asks for help, and tries to forge a new path through her own determination.
also watching the ml slowly realize that she isnt the person he thought she was based on previous biases and slowly fall in love with her is satisfying too hehe
the way he's trying to court her and she just rejects all his advancements bc she thinks that he's testing her is really fun to watch too. i think i just like watching pathetic men pine after girlbosses
also im not quite sure what side rease is on.. but it really looks like she supports edith (the fl) so im hoping for that because we need more women supporting women in this isekai economy
