sighing deeply. ok. *i'm typing this at fuck o clock so technically it was earlier today but this post will go up while i'm at work. anyway here we go:

i was hoping ds9 could make me like the ferengi. i think whoever wrote this episode was trying. dax's little pro-ferengi speech. sure. and here's this ferengi woman, fighting for acceptance and change in her own way. yeah. fine.

unfortunately i think the episode undercut its own message a little in two ways: firstly, by having kira and dax getting groped nonstop without kira getting to break any fingers. like, non-ferengi women won't and shouldn't tolerate that, but for some reason in this episode they do...? i was especially steamed on kira's behalf; at least dax didn't seem to care as much. like, shouldn't the point be that that behavior is UNacceptable, instead of "oh it's not so bad once you get to know them"? and secondly, i think the impact pel made on odo was a little understated. the only real hint we got at him seeing a new way of things vs just him trying to protect himself was him offering pel the money to start a new life with, for free. you could tell because of his acting chocies there was a lot happening under the surface - like, he's always trying to get his own ass out of the fire, but he seemed protective of PEL rather than his own interests in several scenes there, particularly ditching his bar - but we didn't get to see most of the stuff that could ACTUALLY have been interesting bc we were too busy watching the nagus feel people up and eat bugs ha ha quirky fun! now THERE'S a guy that belongs on tng! extremely unendearing. you can win me over to um. some characters. but not this guy.

i was VERY surprised they let quark and pel kiss when quark was under the impression pel was a dude. not only was it a really funny "i thought i was GAY ping" moment, it also feels weirdly...progressive...? for 1993. along with dax assuming pel's in love with quark while ALSO still assuming pel is a guy. even though they kind of ruined it later

actually, the more i think about it the more pel reads as a trans man. is it right to categorize someone as trans when really they're just trying to get out of horrifically oppressive gender roles? maybe not, but the way quark managed to be super homophobic and misogynistic to pel at the same time ("you didn't kiss me" ok self-gaslighting king) feels so much like transphobia, and the way quark utterly rejected pel because of what she (he?) IS even despite the bond and chemistry they'd formed, AND dax, also trans, seemed to clock pel pretty quickly as being Some Kind Of Queer Like Me...i am Seeing

like, pel is all, hey we can run away together! fuck gender roles, who cares if i wear clothes! and quark is straight up like I Would Care. his internalized Whatever is keeping him from being happy with someone he clicked with, whether that's for a single night or an entire lifetime. there WAS a queer theme here. it was almost more about being queer than it was about sexism, except it wasn't actually about either of those because they fumbled the landing a little bit plus i feel like some censorship was probably happening and so the whole thing wound up being muddy. i did like quark's lisa simpson stare at the end though. girl, mood

I do agree with the 1NT though. I have no idea what they were thinking with Lila Coogan. She pronounces every single thing she says the same way?

first-- lila was only casted bc she knew lynn ahrens, i believe. this happened a lot with anastasia at the time unfortunately, when it came time to replace the principal cast they kept choosing people they knew or people who were already in the show instead of finding new talent. stephen (steven? i can't be bothered to remember) covered dmitry on broadway so they hired him as principal dima on tour and that was such a waste too tbh 💀 other than a few delightful people here and there, 1nt was such a bland and forgettable cast to me. 2nt superiority <333

now. for zadkins. a couple years ago i would've answered this privately bc his stans would've eaten me alive, but it appears no one left here cares for him anymore anyway ashdljfdjk so!!! i'm gonna be mean. so sorry. or not sorry. i don't really care anymore lol.

man. another bad case of promoting someone mediocre instead of hiring and training someone new. he always kind of gave me an ick, like on a Regular Person level, but for now let's focus on his performance:

the man cannot sing. he yells. he cannot act. he yells! i'm like not an expert or anything on either but i know a bad singer when i hear one lol. there's a moment in my petersburg where he growls? yuck. he and christy, as talented as she is, had no chemistry. not even like compared to christy and derek (which was like ~Magical Chemistry~), they just had zero chemistry period. even off stage their interactions felt weird and forced. i think he tried too hard to be Different™ from derek that he ended up playing dmitry wildly off book. i mean, you Should come with a new and fresh take on the character, that's fair. but he was almost playing a completely unrecognizable character altogether. (the glebya stans love his dmitry for a reason)

and then he kept thowing little fits off stage-- he got a tattoo when he wasn't supposed to, complained about being compared to derek, etc. he was kind of strange with christy sometimes. on one of her live streams during playtime (the 15 minute stretch between crossing a bridge and iacot, where she would invite the little girls and other folks off stage to hang out in her dressing room) he said he saw her in spring awakening, a show with some nudity, and she was clearly uncomfortable by the way he said it. he was also weird online, there was one instance where a teenage girl tweeted and asked him to come to her birthday party and he?? showed up????? he was also dating ashley park at the time and i think the breakup was messy 💀

his stans were awful. i know it's not his fault, but god. they were so loud, constantly complaining about derek for some reason? a man who minds his own business??? bc the only way you can support your fave is by hating everyone else on main?? the infighting was insane. you had to be there.

and oh man. when they announced cody simpson was replacing him.... it got so much worse. they were tearing that little blond australian man (who can actually sing and act, mind you) to shreds. every review was scathing when the show needed a boost. zach threw a fit about it too, because his contract was ending early (i mean. the show was actively losing money because he was so terrible. so yeah of course they're gonna replace him with a stunt cast ashdljfk) and you compare that and his stans to derek and derek stans just quietly mourning his exit and enduring but otherwise minding our business.... yeah. the only anastasia obc member with a bad attitude fr

so you pair that (the Yikes that is zadkins!dima) with max von essen's gleb (as much as i loved him he was also a miscast, i believe he's said the same) both yelling at anya the whole time with the mediocre 1nt cast,,,, of course you have people walking away from the show going 'so,,, what the hell was that. i could've just watched the movie.'

this is just speculation but i truly believe if i had to pinpoint an origin as to why the show isn't open anymore i would say principal zadkins at such a crucial time was their downfall. the second year is so important to get people to come back and to get new audience members at the same time and they botched it. instead of bringing in new talent they just stuck with mediocre people who already knew the tracks. the show had all the ingredients for being the next wicked, but damn. casting for anya, dmitry, and gleb are so important. you really need people who Get It to portray them, and if you have one weak link the whole show falls flat. and for several months, before cody was brought on and before constantine returned to play principal gleb, christy altomare was carrying the whole thing on her little shoulders.

and THEN you have the whole year two Red Dress marketing campaign, which misinterpretted the show So Badly as ~just another princess show~ to compete with frozen across the street... yeah of course it tanked. but that's another topic.

so! in conclusion........,,, summer-winter 2018 was a dark time for fanastasias ashldkjfjk we were in the Trenches

i would also like to let the record show the fact that we got masters who returned Twice in the same month to film derek/obc in september 2017, which are the bootlegs that are probably the most circulated other than hartford, and returned again in january 2019 to film cody and constantine, and returned AGAIN for closing in march. two whole bootlegs of my guy cody simpson and uhhhh zero for zadkins <3 as god intended <3

rick and morty 6/10 spoilers / talk

i think like... a lot of this season was talking to the viewers as morty. Havent seen many people mention this aspect to it so I wanted to ramble lol I feel like most of season 6 was just set up yeah... people were saying how inconsistent the show was getting, and they decided to REALLY DRIVE IN CONSISTENCY bringing up old bits like sleepy gary and the butter robot. just a lot of the writers having fun yet also driving forward each character, as each character got their own ep this season directly, to add them all back to relevancy a bit more bc the show does, revolve around rick and morty. so it did that a little less this season

im all over the place here sorry lol I still need to recover from this last college semester lmao

ok so the main point i wanted to make, was in 'story train 2' aka the uh. the episode with Campbell that harmon DEFINITELY wrote. there's a point where rick points at the camera but is talking to morty and he was like 'youre what matters' to the camera aka the viewers. and the last scene in 6/10 reminded me of THAT. his ramble that he always does, the rick and morty 100 years rant, it was the writers talking to us, the viewers.

you wanted this. you wanted the dark backstory, you wanted the serialization and the focus on other character arcs. you wanted to see rick change. and here, now you get it all! you get what you wanted despite the warnings. idk I was baked when I saw the ep, I've gotta do a season rewatch and then a series rewatch again to trace it, but it felt DIRECT. that scene was the writers talking to the viewers. a lot of the season was, really? with the story cycle episode and jerrys internet famous arc 'when they start looking for shit to hate you for that's how you know you made it' yeah that feels like a harmon line for sure. i know there was a lot of internal conflict of what they wanted the show to be, but they seem pleased with what they settled on. this year alone harmon and roiland said that the show could easily go on for 1000 episodes. if one arc gets finished, if one UNIVERSE gets finished, they've created a setup that they can exhaust forever. they always wanted to be like the simpsons and tbh I hope they get a long run

but im VERY VERY excited theyre taking this turn, story wise, writers aside. its honestly the best way they've could have gone, I remember seeing the reveals and being like :] cus yeah. we got rick developing. we got rick regressing! we got to see more of the other characters, id say we got very nice storylines as well. i enjoyed it all a lot and I am very scared-excited for season 7. its interesting to see how many mixed reviews they get and how much bad writing criticism when I can literally trace their thought process for it... as this season showed rick trying to improve and grain mortys trust and respect, the writers were saying the same to the viewers. in a similar sense, as rick showed morty that he would always be rick and to watch what you wish for, the writers were doing the same. no more silly random adventures, were going full canon and you wanted this.

1) Twin Peaks. Agreeing with Char on this one. One of my friends calls it “Pacific Northwest Gothic” and I couldn’t agree more, especially as a girl named Laura from the PNW. Thankfully my life is far more blessed than Laura Palmer’s. It’s really one of the most influential shows of all time. All of the procedurals or dramedies that came after, especially ones with weird avant-garde feels to them, might not exist without Twin Peaks. One such show that has Twin Peaks all overs its DNA is:

2) Yellowjackets. It’s a young show that I’ve only recently become obsessed with, but it’s like somebody put all my favorite narrative choices in a blender in a way that doesn’t feel pandering. 

3) Succession. It’s pretty enthralling, innit? The comedy-drama line is a very tricky tightrope, and damn if Jesse and co. don’t knock it out of the park every time. We really get under the skin of these terrible, terrible people, and you find yourself empathizing at least once with every major character.

4) Columbo. As for shows that might have influenced Twin Peaks, I wonder if Columbo was one. They have surprisingly similar vibes, at least sometimes. Columbo himself is a more slovenly, seemingly absent-minded precursor to Dale Cooper. They’re both unconventional weirdos with hearts of gold who present the opposite to the standard cynical TV sleuth -- not to mention they wear the same raincoat, only Coop’s is crisp and clean next to Columbo’s...less crisp and clean coat. There’s also that kind of groovy, mellow ‘70s vibe that can get very unsettling very quickly. I never get tired of watching Columbo.

5) Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. I’m grouping them together in one because BCS wouldn’t exist without BrBa, and they both do scratch many of the same itches for me. Magnetic casts and writing that transcend the genre -- again, and this might seem like a stretch, I see the DNA footprints Twin Peaks left behind in that the tropes get flipped upside down. Sometimes you’ll start the show on a little boy capturing a tarantula or a closeup of ants devouring a dropped ice cream cone. Pure Lynch.

6) The Simpsons, I’d say about the first eight seasons. It first aired when I was close to two years old, so I don’t remember a time in my life without it. My dad was at first a little nervous about letting me and my sister watch because of how intense Itchy and Scratchy was, but darn it, he wanted to watch it and he rightly knew we would have been little nightmares to deal with if he didn’t include us. It shaped my sense of humor, while also ruining a lot of good kids fare at the time. If you’re raised on The Simpsons, Sesame Street probably won’t do it for you. I do kind of regret that, I think The Simpsons probably made me a bit of an insufferable kid. I still don’t know who I’d be without it in those formative years, though! Too bad it’s now the bloated corpse of what it once was, and I stopped watching years and years ago. It was a sad day when I realized there are now far more bad seasons than good.

7) Mystery Science Theater 3000. Another one that shaped my humor early in life, although not as consistently as The Simpsons. I actually don’t remember seeing it at all apart from my early years until my teens, when the Sci-Fi channel started airing them. I’ll always be a Crow girl, I am not original in that regard.

8) It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I hate a lot of their choices especially in the early seasons, and I won’t defend those choices. But I do see growth in how they choose to satirize the world without falling into the trap of appearing to endorse it. (Most of the time). It’s the funniest cast on Earth with the funniest writing on Earth. Little green ghouls, man.

The highest proportion of fans stated that they loved too many of the main characters to choose.  657 responders (24.8%) chose this option.  That’s nearly a quarter of fans who were polled.  It should be noted that this option included both fans who liked every main character, as well as those who were split between at least two characters.  Some even went into detail on this section that their favorites are minor characters like Gaster and Muffet.  Many fans wrote large paragraphs explaining what they love about each member of the Undertale cast.

Because they're for most so funny but especially for all so well written, complex, alive, they do not feel like flat characters despite the game being in 2D. I also like that despite that, there are holes in the backstory of all that can allow the fan to imagine different scenarios that they can then share and discuss with the community. I also like the fact that they're not all heterosexuals or gender binary and respect each other for what they are.

It's hard? Because in Undertale, it makes you feel like you're really part of it, you know? The characters, all of them, make you feel like you're family too. That makes it hard too. Because you don't want a pick a character, because you don't want to let any of the others go.

I find each character interesting in their own ways, and befriending them (or defeating them depending on which run you enjoy participating in) is always a delight. Learning their stories, aspirations, hopes, and dreams is a wonderful experience no matter how many times you play/watch the game, even if it will never match the original feeling.

I fell in love with Sans first, thanks to a friend introducing me to him and me wanting to see the game he was from. From there, Toriel became the mother I never had & Asriel/Flowey the brother I never had. I adored Papyrus and wanted to be as fabulous as MTT. I was cheering on for Alphys & Undyne, and I so desperately wanted to spare the King on my first run. Hell, even side or one off characters felt like family to me so quickly. Undertale changed my life, and I couldn't pick a favorite. I love the entire Underground, and the whole main cast is like a whole 2nd family to me

Most of them I like because they're either relatable, (E.g. Napstablook's more anti-social nature, Burgerpants’ lost energy, Asgore's past bad decisions that he can't undo no matter how much he wants to,) And/or something I strive to be (E.g. Toriel's motherly traits, Undyne's sense of honor, Papyrus's determination and optimism.)

I feel for Mad Dummy on a spiritual level. Skelebros are the fandom engine at this point. Frisk is forever who made the story real for each player.

1. im pretty sure the exact reason persephone now randomly has long hair in episodes and merch despite the short hair being her one unique trait for so long is because rachel knows even her fans can connect the dots persephone is supposed to be and look exactly like rachel's idealized version of herself and its not very subtle about it. lets play is obvs a self insert fantasy too but even mongie had the good sense to make sure sam didnt look like her.

2. do you think lo is ever going to cover herakles? bc i want to know how rachel will try and hashtag girlboss her way out of hera trying to kill his mom during childbirth, try to murder him as a baby, and then driving him mad so he murders his wife and children. like she already is trying (and failing) to girlboss persephone being a selfish mass murderer, why not hera too

3. I hate that the trial literally mentions NOTHING about the humans Persephone killed. I get that it's centered around clearing her name, but this whole thing barely even mentions them or what happened! It's just the gods airing out each other's dirty laundry. We get little to no input from the mortals side nor do we get anybody advocating for them. Did no one think maybe we should maybe get a relative of one of the mortals she murdered to testify? Get a nymph who lived in the area maybe? No? Why not!? This involves them doesn't it!?!?! I'm not saying that Persephone shouldn't get to share her side of the story, I'm just saying that that's all we've seen. We haven't heard about the damage she did.

4. ok first off the fact we didnt even know if persephone was over 18 when she stumbled nearly naked onto a drunk hades is already bad enough and points clearly why her being so borderline young is a bad idea, but if persephone was 19 when they met ?? how bad is her memory?? she only met him months before but completely forgot by the time of the first few episodes?? is she just playing dumb or is she just stupid? like these retcons only make everything more confusing??

5. i hate how hades and persephone's relationship is justified by lo fans because it's "legal". like legality is not morality, and hades is still a massive creep.....and demeter is right for trying to keep the two apart

prince of egypt: oh my gfucking god . bro the music. the ANIMATION. the story too like obviously its based on a religious tale but i mean the way its portrayed and interpreted and how it all comes across was so on point. and did i mention THE FUCKGIN MUSIC dude i would try to sing every song when i was a kid and i think attempting that literally improved my range growing up

shrek: ok when ur a kid literally all u want is to feel mature and cool. shrek was that in an hour and 30 minutes. all the adult humor. and even the shit that would fly over your head somehow still always registered as so funny. every line is burned into my brain bc i watched it so much it was so fuckgin funny and entertaining and the storyline was so depthful and important. shrek for president

Simpsons Headcanons

PSA: these headcanons relate to an AU I have yet to fully explain where the show The Simpsons is a show within the Simpsons universe loosely based on Springfield. It’s shot in Springfield and the citizens play characters of themselves.

Also you know me. It’s long.

The Simpsons kids are incredibly close and Bart is very in tune with their emotions. He always knows how to cheer them up or spend time with them.

This sibling power and making sure everyone is included is what caused him to let Ralph have his moment is that one episode. Everyone should get their spotlight.

When Bart’s older he realizes that he’s pretty good at art and tries to get into that industry. Probably Comics or cartoons.

Bart and Sophie Krustofsky are best friends. They met on set and proceed to instantly click.

They’re like the chaotic best friends that have a very deep emotional connection that most people don’t know about. Especially when it comes to parents.

Sophie wanted to take dancing lessons in 8th grade, but she needed a partner so of course she asks Bart. He says yes and sees this as an opportunity to find a way to romance the ladies. They wind up having a really good time together and maybe possibly develop feelings for each other.

They get slushees everytime she’s in town. Their go to flavors are blueberry for Bart and Tropical Mango for Sophie.

Bart’s main group of friends includes him, Milhouse, Nelson, Sophie (when she’s on their side of town) , Martin, and Lisa if she wants to tag along.

Bart probably gets drums again in high school and starts a band with the aforementioned group. It last till they find careers.

When Grandpa Simpson dies Bart and Homer get really close. Bart keeps some of Grandpa’s old sweaters. Comfort Clothes.

While looking through old photo albums to grieve, Bart slips out “do you think he’d be proud of me?” And Homer turns and goes “yes of course he would.” Bart’s tearing up a little and turns to Homer and says “are you proud of me?” “Of course I am boy. Come here” and he holds him and continues. “I know I’m not the best as expressing how I feel about you kids. Till the end of me and your Grandpa’s relationship it was just a known understanding that we loved each other. And I guess I kind of did that with you guys and didn’t realize that you express love in a different way. You need to be told. Of course I’m proud of you. Don’t ever think otherwise.” And Bart cried a little but it’s a good cry. It’s the fist time he ever felt his dad truly liked him. And saw him as Bart Simpson and not just some goofy character.

Sophie and Krusty watch bad made for TV movies to make fun of them. It’s like a bonding thing.

Mel and Barbra (Krusty’s sister) are still married and Sophie loves calling him Uncle Mel.

Sophie also calls Bob Uncle Bob even though they’re not related. They’re just like one big family bc they’ve all known each other for so long and being in the entertainment business made their bonds (Krusty, Mel, and Bob) even stronger.

Bart really likes murder mysteries bc Lisa would read him Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys to get better at reading and they would even play the computer games together.

Marge wears her hair down more at home because Homer likes it so much.

The reason Marge started wearing it up all the time is because it reminds her of when she and Homer got together. It’s a sentiment to their relationship.

They try to have date night at least once a month.

Homer winds up making up with Herbert when the success of the show picks up. Herb relaunched his business and makes up with his only family. He comes around for holidays whenever he’s not busy and The Homer car is a distant funny scandal.

Maude was written out of the show due to health problems. She never really died.

Edna became his love interest due to become good friends with Flanders. She would tutor the boys and babysit whenever needed (due to Maude’s cycles of critical conditions). The show thought it would be a good idea. Flanders didn’t really want to make it seem like he had a new wife, but the show was a good source of income.

Eventually Edna could see how bad Flanders felt on the inside about Edna be portrayed as his new wife and asked to be written out of the show. She knew Flanders would never stick up for himself and couldn’t stand seeing her friend upset. She covered it up by saying she didn’t like the negative publicity of her character and wanted to just be a teacher. She still helps the Flanders whenever they need it.

Edna and Skinner wind up getting back together after her TV retirement. (More on the development later.)

and how it dwells on his past, everything he did wrong, all the most heartwrenching moments, and there aren’t any changes to the intro (as far as i could tell) until episode 8… nothing changes if all you do is look back.

I am LOVING the Mr. Peanutbutter we’re getting this season. I was never really attached to him before; it’s not that I hated him, just that I liked all the other main characters better. and now that they’ve had him do something really bad and reckon with that,, he’s plumbing new depths, exploring those dark places, questioning if he’s truly as happy as he says he is

bojack keeps giving advice that is, at best, the kind he doesn’t follow himself, and at worst, bringing others down into the well of self-pity that he’s been stuck in the whole series

Oh man Mr. Peanutbutter had a moment… he finally got that crossover episode… I was kinda hoping for a joke that went “Mr. Peanutbutter and BoJack Horseman in the same room? What is this, Philbert?” or “What is this, a short-lived show on a streaming network that got canceled because the star got addicted to painkillers and strangled his costar in a drugged haze?” but this is SO MUCH BETTER. I've never seen him cry before and the way he reacts to himself crying suggests that maybe he’s never cried before at all, and that’s why he just keeps laughing, almost like it’s forced, cause this is supposed to be his happiest moment and it’s not supposed to make him so sad. fucking,, character development

and the cold open of ep 8… you can forgive yourself and move on from your past wrongs but it doesn’t erase the things you did, the effects they have on people, and the trauma they’ve suffered. and then like, how can you forgive yourself if they never forgive you? how do you maintain that balance? why should you move forward if they can’t?

her quote about not wanting to be defined by what bojack did to her has always stuck with me, and i feel like now, that quote has sort of come true. like, her saying that made us avoid reducing her to what happened to her, and thats why i wanted to see her come back this season, hopefully moving past it. but she can’t. it traumatized her. and everyone can see the effects of it but she feels like she can’t come forward, cause if she does she’ll be punished. shit like that changes you.

and it’s another instance on the show where someone chooses to advance their career & preserve their reputation over doing the right thing (like what bojack does with herb & sharona), but bojack does it out of self-interest, and gina does it so she doesn’t have to relive her trauma every time she gets interviewed or recognized by a fan. but even when she keeps quiet about it she’s still reliving her trauma

you ever just like… you ever watch a scene and feel the cliffhanger vibes creeping up and you just know it’s gonna end there and leave you unsatisfied and begging for more but at the same time that’s what makes it such a good place to end it. that was me with this. (and also the ending of undone)

the thing about this show is, it illustrates what it’s like to be a toxic person. and sure, he has it hard, but the show never asserts that he has it any worse than his victims, even if bojack himself does so. and he only does it so he can feel better about himself. he deserves a reckoning, he needs to pay for his bad deeds. but then, when you know what made him this way and what goes on inside his mind and that he wants to get better, it makes you feel for him, and forces you to ask if he deserves to get better and forgive himself and move forward. but even if he does, it doesn’t change the things he did. it doesn’t fix the lives he’s ruined.

anyway sound off if you think bojack’s gonna die at the end. hopefully not by suicide

I completely agree about what you think on S32 premiere. I liked the plot and all but I can't enjoy an episode with Mr Burns acting like that. Some people on the burnsmithers fandom said that a character being rude like that is funnier for a TV show but that'd be only working if the simpsons didn't last for over 30 years; the writers are worried cuz in the last years they lost so many fans but since there are a lot burnsmithers shippers I think they're going to lose even more fans. Maybe the only way to fix their relationship would be making an episode where Smithers moves away for some months and Mr Burns understands how much he missed him and how much he cares about him, but something like that already happened in the Burns Cage and nothing changed between them. Bring the old Mr Burns back, the one that actually cares about his assistant 💔

the plot was def interesting and showed just how different executive teams are from the working class that makes their salaries possible. so props to the writers for taking that plot and runnin with it.

sad to hear that someone thinks this behavior is pure comedy bc it never brings a laugh outta me when shit like that happens to smithers. i usually have to pause the episode and collect myself before diving back in bc like you said, it really did used to be a beautiful duo full of mutual trust, respect, and different forms of love from both sides.

after the bcage (one of the few episodes we could have to actually make a difference like UHHH idk CBG getting a wife that lasted outside of one episode), there were some episodes that hinted at the fact that there would be a permanent change in feelings between burns and smithers where smits would openly admire burns and burns would lean on smits a lil more to balance him. then that change slowly faded out and we were back to square one.

over the years, i’ve gotten a lot of understandable criticism from both mutuals and random anons that bsmits is abusive, or bringing up the blunder years episode (won’t even talk about that now but i’m sure you can guess my raw stance on it). but moments like the ones in the season premiere where burns is a certified bastard is not what i support and neither do a lot of this fandom. we’re all waiting for that early energy to return bc that dynamic is what draws us in. like in blood feud where smithers stands in front of burns’ desk in the manor and admits he couldn’t kill homer bc he/bart helped saved burns’ life. then burns called him the sober yin to his raging yang, and held smits hand for an extended period of time to rly sell the whole “mutual trust/respect” to the audience. THAT’S what this ship is all about. the current writers just don’t..... understand that magic i guess. but i still have hope for those small moments of getting that back.

tldr; burns’ characterization is wildly inconsistent and the season premiere is on the bad side of the spectrum.

Yeah tbh at this point if they kept will and Hannibal at each other's throats it would honestly just be boring?? Like we've seen that, we saw two seasons of that. Now I wanna see will getting comfy with the beast inside him and indulging in everything he fought against for so long, and learning how to live with the monster he's fallen in love with. Will's chosen Hannibal and now they've got to make that work. That's the interesting story. Nobody wants another mizumono at this point

Yeah??????????????????? It would be boring and it would be shitty writing and I mean I hope that’s obvious enough that they would know better than to do it but it’s hard to say

the problem with television shows is that it’s difficult to really have much in the way of actual character development bc people watch the show bc they like the themes it’s exploring and if you let your characters grow in a natural way then they outgrow old themes and grow into new ones and the people who liked the original characterizations might not like what the characters grow to be as much, you know?

So a lot of times even creators with really neat and innovative ideas fall into this trap of making characters basically repeat the same mistakes over and over without growth bc they think that’s what the fans want. Which works if your show is like The Simpsons where time literally does not pass, but doesn’t work at all for a show like this one

And obviously there has been some obvious character growth that’s happened; none of the characters are making the same choices in the finale that they would have made in the pilot. They did that well. But the finale leaves them at an odd point in regards to that: they’ve so far managed to keep similar overall dynamics despite the characters’ individual positions shifting around within them, and now with that embrace on the cliff there’s a shift out into an unknown space

If suddenly Hannibal Lecter is not capable of exerting power over... basically anyone... then what is the show about? Hannibal holds Will close and lets him throw him off a cliff. Will holds Hannibal to him and throws himself off the cliff at Hannibal’s side. Realistically, they can’t come back from that with the same kind of dynamic that they had before

Like it seems to me that while there is bound to still be antagonism and certainly a fair amount of unease (possibly awkwardness) between them after that experience, taking either of them back to a place where they were inclined to be genuinely at odds, with a genuine intention to cause the other irrevocable pain, death, or imprisonment would be ridiculous??

They’ve both gotten to the point where they realize they need to find a way to make this work, and maybe that’ll be really goddamn hard and maybe they’ll fuck up with each other some, but that’s totally different than the dynamic we’ve seen between them up to this point, so if we get more show, their relationship will have to reflect that or it will be, again, bad writing

And I mean, the people who want another Mizumono the least have to be them???????? Both of these characters suffered so much bc of that. There’s no reason either of them would want to put themself in a situation like that again, and if the writers had them do so it would be an obviously cheap attempt to introduce more drama

When in reality the far more interesting (and character consistent!!) story would be one about them learning to love each other peacefully, while the drama comes at them from outside forces and from the difficulties that arise when changing ones life so drastically

Hi lovlies!

Today isn’t a good mental health day for me, but have no fear, that does not mean I’m not going to write! I thought that since I just went through my bad day routine and did my comfort things this would be a perfect time to share those things with you!

STEP ONE:

  The very first thing I do when I wake up on a bad mental health day is to start doing comfort things on my phone before I get up. This most likely doesn’t work for everyone since getting out of bed (no matter how hard it is) is the best way to start. I personally do this before getting up bc it makes it a bit easier to get up. My comfort activities on my phone include:

1. Watching Tik Toks

This makes me feel better because I follow pretty funny creators and I can always get a bit of a boost from their content. This just helps me boost my spirits, even if the video isn’t funny, the comments never fail to cheer me up!  

2. Read Comfort Fics 

I usually end up just looking through fluff hashtags on tumblr, currently, I am on a Fred Weasley kick (who happens to be one of my comfort characters) so I could always use some good recs for Fred fluff😊! This just makes me feel butterflies when I read all the cute fluff. 

3. Watch Compilation Videos on YouTube

I recently searched up ‘videos that boost serotonin’ and found a few compilations. I normally switch between Tik Tok comps and vine comps. 

STEP TWO

  After I get up, I make sure to go my morning routine. I keep all my personal products in my room (my makeup, my skin care, my hair brush, etc.). For my morning routine, I need a sink so I gather my stuff (skin care, hair brush, phone, headband, chapstick) and head into my bathroom to get started. I always play music while doing this because music is a huge comfort tool for me.
