i don’t dance!
pair. pro-player!ushijima x PR manager!reader
content: fluff, reader is his VERY TIRED PR manager who really deserves a raise, weak attempts at humour, no pronouns used for reader
synopsis. you need to teach ushijima how to waltz
wc: 2.2k
a/n: i eat the “teach me how to dance” trope up for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (also yes i absolutely did use a high school musical song as the title who’s gonna stop me)
Tumblr media
ushijima wakatoshi is what people typically refer to as emotionally unavailable.
he just doesn’t have the time to worry about trivial things like romance or feelings or anything of the sort. not while he’s trying to keep up with his rigorous training schedule on top of countless interviews and photo shoots that you, his wonderful PR manager, generously offer to help him prepare for.
it’s no surprise that this man - 6 feet and almost 4 inches of pure heart throb material - has yet to find a partner worth keeping around. not that he hadn’t had one night stands, per say, but being emotionally available for a committed relationship isn’t something he has on his mind right now.
although he isn’t exactly the type to be nitpicky about this kind of stuff, he does come off as cold if you don’t know him well enough (unintentionally, of course). people who he welcomes into his life simply find him too busy or too severe in his mannerisms to form proper relationships. thus, his friend group is kept tight, extending almost exclusively to members of the japanese national team.
ushijima keeps to himself and minds his own business. he doesn’t speak until spoken to, unless he has some opinion about other volleyball players you have to thwart. he doesn’t make a fuss about insignificant things. he respects his elders and works hard in every aspect of his life that involves his career. words are kept short and to the point, never sugar coated and he certainly never lies.
he specifically remembers one scenario in which an adoring fan had come up to him after a game while you were distracted with the press, and they had confessed their undying love to him much to his horror.
“could you leave me alone?” he had told them bluntly when they asked if he could please dm them on twitter, and you nearly died on the spot when the cameras all turned to the pair behind you. it was a horribly busy week for you, playing the role of damage control all while ushijima remained completely indifferent to the storm that was brewing on social media around his name and how he was trending for two whole days after the fact.
thankfully, the fan had gratefully accepted a bouquet of flowers ‘courtesy of ushijima’ (which he also almost vehemently denied online before you smacked him upside the head), and all was forgiven. it even made him trend for a couple days longer, but this time with everyone singing his praises. he should give you more credit where it’s due, because being a PR manager for someone so terrible at smiling for the camera is like hell on earth.
you had told him once that it was important to keep a good rapport with his fans, even if they were more forward with their advances than he was used to back in high school. he looked at you funny until you continued: “i’m not saying you should go off and date anyone who confesses to you, but could you at least be a little nicer?!” sounding extremely exasperated.
he didn’t even end up agreeing with you, too distracted by the way your lips moved while you scolded him to pay you his full attention.
Tumblr media
“tonight’s the gala. everyone will be there.”
“i know.”
“so why,” you hiss out the words through grit teeth, jaw tense as you pinch the bridge of your nose, “are you standing outside my house when you should be getting ready?”
he’s silent for a moment. you glance up to make sure he’s actually still standing there being stupidly handsome and that you’re not just dreaming he is. ushijima averts his gaze awkwardly, hands in his pockets as he contemplates whether or not he should say what’s on his mind and risk having you slam the door in his face in frustration.
(it’s happened before; once, when he told you he was the top reply on a post for asking what “smash” means and why everyone was commenting it under all his instagram photos. you slammed the door in his face then, too, but he could still hear you erupt into laughter from the other side much to his confusion.)
you’re looking at him expectantly, with a brow raised and your lips pursed as you wait for an explanation.
“it’s a gala.”
you close your eyes and take a deep breath, patience wearing thin. “i know, wakatoshi. i just said that.”
“it’s a gala, so...” he huffs, “i have to dance, don’t i?”
you look up again at his words, confusion written all over your face. you’re in the middle of getting ready yourself, dressed to the nines. not as his date, of course, though he’d asked you.
(“what did you just say?”
“why can’t you just come with me? it would save you the trouble of getting the extra ticket. it’s not like i’m taking anyone else.”
“i can’t- that’s-... it’s unprofessional.”
“oh. i see.”)
you take the opportunity to scrutinize his outfit, as your eyes always end up doing. you’re always observing him closely, hoping and praying he doesn’t do or say something that will get him cancelled. in his defense, he’s gotten better at keeping his mouth shut when he knows you’re sitting there stressed to all hell about what you’ll need to apologize for on his behalf that week.
not that he would ever admit it out loud, but he likes the attention a little bit. enjoys being fussed over, since he spends most of his time isolated save for the members of his team. and it’s not like you’re very secretive about your judgment of him. it’s your job, for one, but there’s an undeniable and genuine worry in your eyes every time he says something he shouldn’t. he thinks it’s fine that he indulges in your presence just a bit, especially since people have found him intimidating his whole life. it’s nice to talk to someone who isn’t afraid to stand up to him once in a while.
you sigh quietly. “yes, you’ll have to dance. why?” you open the door wider for him, a gesture he’s familiar with equating to come in. “you’re not planning on bailing ‘cause of that, are you?”
he watches as you retreat further into your house, probably to fix your hair one last time before you head out early. you always arrive to these sorts of events earlier than he does, and always in a separate car. you were insistent that he arrive either alone or with his own date, since it would reduce the risk of scandals questioning your seemingly close relationship with each other.
close is not the word either you nor ushijima would use to describe your feelings toward one another. sure, you were the one helping to manage his schedule even though the job description did not at all entail that, and you’re the one keeping him in line with the media. he even has you over sometimes for dinner after an especially long day. but no, you’re not close. work acquaintances at best.
“no, i’m not bailing,” he tells you as he trails behind, following you to the mirror in the hallway - the one hung up above a high table littered with trinkets from past events and some photos of you and your friends and family. you look at him with a quizzical expression through the mirror.
“then?”
he stands rigidly behind you. the thought that it feels strangely domestic with you getting ready in front of him like this crosses his mind, and makes him grossly warm and fuzzy inside.
“i don’t know how to dance.”
you pause in your ministrations, hair that you meant to pin up falling back over your eyes as you stare at him with bewilderment. “you what?”
“i don’t know how to dance,” he repeats, though you heard him perfectly fine the first time.
“you... don’t know how to... dance...” you sound out the sentence slowly, hoping that you possibly misheard him. to your horror, he only nods in confirmation.
in your one year, three months and twenty-two days of working with ushijima, how could it have never once dawned on you that this 6 foot monster of a volleyball player doesn’t know how to do something as elegant as a waltz?
it’d never been a problem before. most events don’t include anything of the sort, and all the events you do attend with ushijima are to give out awards or give esteemed recognition to MVPs. but for a christmas gala, there will definitely be booze and partying and absolutely dancing involved.
for a second, he thinks you’ll keel over and place your head into your hands on the table like you usually do in these situations, or that you’ll start muttering curse words to yourself, or maybe you’ll scold him some more for never learning. but much to his (pleasant) surprise, you just laugh. and laugh. and keep laughing, until there are tears in your eyes. his poor heart can’t take it.
“what?” he asks, almost sounding offended. but his expression is still stone cold as you look back up at him, turning to face him this time. his breath hitches when the action causes a whiff of your expensive body spray to waft in his direction.
“i just wasn’t expecting you to say that,” you muse. he knows what you really mean is that you’re surprised he isn’t here causing trouble for you before this event like he always does, complaining like a child that he doesn’t see the point of attending. “why didn’t you just say so? it’s easy. i’ll show you.”
he stares at you momentarily while you stand there, hand outstretched as an offer to take it. he half expects you to yank it back and laugh in his face, more cruelly this time, but you just smile at him with the slightest tilt of your head. you sound so genuine that any hesitation left in his body melts away, and he awkwardly accepts your hand and waits for your guidance.
he’s stiff as a board as you pull his hands where they need to go, one resting on your hip and the other hanging in the air for you to take. “i’ll teach you how to lead first, okay?” he can only nod in response. you step forward once with your left, urging him to step back with your timing. then you’re shuffling over, gliding along the floor with ushijima trying his damndest to follow along, and then your feet meet again in a different spot.
he grunts quietly in concentration, watching your movements carefully and clumsily trying to catch up. it’s a simple enough motion, but he’s too big and it feels clunky to do this for the first time. you seem deeply amused by his confusion, and he glares at you quickly before his eyes are back on the floor.
“now you try. we can go slow,” your voice is soft. encouraging. so unlike your usual stern demeanor with him. “step forward.”
ushijima does so obediently, sliding his left forward to the best of his memory.
“good. now your right goes to the side and the left follows.”
he listens to you again, but his gait is much larger than you anticipated, and your back hits the table behind you with a gentle thud. he mutters something along the lines of an apology, but he seems too focused to realize the compromising position he’s put you in. you smile at him anyways, rotating around 90 degrees to give you more space to move.
“now again in the opposite direction.”
“this is too complicated.”
“this is the easiest motion...”
“i don’t like it.”
“you gonna keep complaining or are you going to dance with me?”
he stops in his tracks, boring into you with intensity in his eyes. you watch his adam’s apple bob up and down as he swallows. “...what’s wrong?”
ushijima just shakes his head, and then his feet are moving again as he tugs you along clumsily. “nothing. but maybe you should be my dance partner for the rest of tonight.” you raise a brow at him in question, even though you can feel the heat rising in your face and all the way to the tips of your ears. he clears his throat, looking away. “wouldn’t want any bad press about my terrible dancing,” he quickly adds.
this gets a laugh out of you. “as your PR manager, i don’t think that’s the kind of negative press i’m supposed to be getting you out of.”
“and as a friend?”
another laugh, a little breathless. “yeah, yeah. fine. as your friend i’ll make sure no one knows how awful you are at this.”
he blinks down at you, unsure if he’s ever seen you so relaxed before. you’re always so high-strung about work and keeping his name clear. there’s a softness gracing your face right now and he doesn’t know how to handle himself or his racing heart.
okay, yeah. maybe he can try and be a little nicer to his fans to see you like this more often.

boyfriend headcannons - han hyeongjun
Tumblr media
☆彡 EEEEEEKK it’s Jun Han time! :D 🩷
word count: 690 | pronouns used: none | genre: fluff, established relationship | cws: YouTube like is safe!!, all caps, (Hyeongjun’s) insecurities mentioned, eating mentioned, I love him, not proofread, lmk if I missed something
← previous member | next member →
obviously, I have a lot to say
here we go
first things first, Hyeongjun shows you how he loves you instead of telling you
there was some radio interview they did one time where the other members said he doesn’t say “I love you much”
so he makes sure to physically show his appreciation for you
what’s that? you were stressed from your workload? Hyeongjun made you dinner and cleaned up your place while you were out
you’re feeling nervous about a big job interview? he got you flowers to wish you good luck
stuff like that
I also feel like someone somewhere said that Hyeongjun is really good with dates?
idk maybe I’m gaslighting myself into thinking that
but he never never forgets anything!
birthdays, anniversaries, important events- he’s there
I also think a lot about the one Knock Down Debate that they did where Hyeongjun yelled at the others because they never pick up their phones when he calls them
so hey, at least he’s good at communication in that aspect
I don’t think Hyeongjun is one for pet names
I literally cannot picture him calling someone a pet name, but I could easily be wrong
if he did I feel like they would be simple
“honey”
“love”
“sweetie”
short and sweet stuff
he gets flustered easily if you call him something though!
I feel like it would be really easy to fluster him
STOOOPP imagine Hyeongjun meeting your pets
forget about your family- let this man meet your cat
okay but fr this man is sweating buckets meeting your family
he’s afraid that they would think he’s too quiet or too boring :(
but once they get to know him and once he warms up to them that’s obviously not true!
I mean, come on, look at the way that man can shred on the guitar. there is not a boring bone in his body
he’s a kiss on the cheek typa guy
no big fancy gestures
just something cute, simple, and sweet
he actually doesn’t strike me as a big gesture guy at all?
no wait let me explain
let me cook
not big on PDA, not the best with words, and he wouldn’t feel like his acts of kindness are very big
like, he let you hold on to kkito while he was away for a few days so you wouldn’t miss him- why are you crying?
ugh I wanna squeeze him :(
he will come to you with any sort of problem no matter how big or how small
he trusts you completely
he would literally be your friend first and your boyfriend second
Hyeongjun strikes me as the type to not need affection much, but when he does he’s a little nervous to ask
“Jun, what’s wrong?”
“I need a hug.” :(
you almost don’t hear him but y’all are so close that you can figure it out
you can basically read his mind
I feel like a relationship with Hyeongjun would go slow, and that’s okay!
why mess with perfection 😉
no need to rush first kisses or first I love yous
you’re just having fun together!
HE MAKES A PLAYLIST OF SONGS THAT REMIND HIM OF YOU 😭😭😭😭
“This song played in the restaurant during our first date.”
“This song was stuck in my head right before you kissed me for the first time.”
“This song was-“ STOP IT I can’t do this anymore
ALWAYS makes sure you’re taking care of yourself
making sure you eat meals and get enough rest
he’s so open minded!
I feel like he has strong opinions, but he’s chill with most things?
those two things literally cancel out but whatever
he buys clothes that he also thinks you would like in case you want to steal them 😼
pays very close attention to detail!
no new haircut or nail color goes unnoticed!
he draws little pictures of you in his sketchbook all the time :(
loving Hyeongjun is gentle, calm, and fun- like sitting in the grass on a sunny day
no pressure, no rush, just you two having fun being together 🩷
god I love him so much

What We Need Is A Schedule
After the fun and games of one year ago, John and Paul are no longer fooling around. Lennon & McCartney talk about their job, songwriting. from THE BEATLES BOOK MONTHLY, No. 33, June 1966
JOHN: Now that Paul's back from his holidays, we're getting ready to do quite a bit of recording. We have to get two songs for a new single in the next couple of weeks and we've got to start work on another LP album. That means we want nearly twenty new numbers- allowing for a couple of spare ones in case something doesn't really work out when we get in the studio.
PAUL: I think song-writing is like any other kind of writing. You tend to put it off until somebody tells you it has to be finished by a particular date.
JOHN: When we're on our own and we think of an idea for a song, the main thing is to get it down so that it isn't forgotten. Words you can write on bits of paper but it's not that easy with a tune. We've found the best way of all is to use a tape recorder.
PAUL: With a tape you can put on the voice and add bits of guitar and things later when you get a good idea in your mind for a guitar phrase or an introduction.
JOHN: And it doesn't really matter if you haven't got all the lyrics worked out. You can just hum or go "la-la-la-la" for the bits you haven't written yet.
PAUL: Then John and I get together and play over the tapes we've made.
JOHN: Paul's much more of an expert about recording his songs. Some of his tapes are fantastic--they're dubbed and everything so that you get the full group sound--not like mine which are just my own voice and one guitar.
PAUL: Just like any other kind of writing, it's impossible to walk about doing other things and suddenly say to yourself "Ah, l've got a song coming on. Here it comes now" and rush to your tape recorder.
JOHN: I dunno. Sometimes you can start off a new song like that. It depends.
PAUL: We've been talking about this and we've decided we ought to force ourselves to arrange days for songwriting together in advance.
JOHN: It's too easy to put it off if we just meet without any plan and say "Shall we write something today?". If you do that you feel as though you're losing a free day. What we're going to do is make dates beforehand and sort of say "Right Wednesday and Friday of this week are for songwriting. And Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week". Then we'll know it's something we've to keep to.
PAUL: We'll try to fix times and keep to them. Get into a room with guitars and a piano and a tape recorder and work things out.
JOHN: I said at the start we would need twenty new numbers. Actually, both of us have some half-started stuff which needs finishing. Some of Paul's tapes are almost complete too. We'll probably get five or six songs out of these and then begin thinking up new ones.
PAUL: One of the only real differences between the way we prepare for recording sessions now and the way we did it years ago is that we know more about recording techniques.
JOHN: Earlier on we'd go into the studio and George Martin would say after he'd heard something "Well, that's going to be O.K. but why don't you try putting a so-and-so in there." And he'd suggest an organ sound or double-tracking on something. Now we know just how much can be done in the studio we can think up new sounds and different instruments to use before a session.
PAUL: Means we should get more done at a session.
JOHN: Ah, I've got a song coming on. Here it comes now!
PAUL: Right! Let's get back to work.

Good morning! (Well, at my place) I've just read your take on fandom, and while I'm personally avoiding most of the cast interviews and stuff, I see your point. I'm just afraid that's too much a voice of reason. Something spread all over the world today, facts do not matter very much. And people really forget that fandom is fun. Anyway, would love to see more of those posts :)
I too usually avoid interviews and stuff, I'm mostly in it for the excuse to unite my love for aviation, disaster documentaries and gay stuff. I'm sure you've stumbled across fandom discourse before and asked yourself "are we watching the same show?" Well, I saw a post about one of the actors "confirming a character's sexual orientation" and I was just wondering if we were reading the same words.
I've seen media literacy, canon vs fanon being brought up numerous times for the last 2 months, but I think I've finally found the right words to describe my gripes with the fandom: the confusion of implication and interpretation.
Maddie pulling Chimney out of the frame in that hotel room then ending up pregnant a few episodes later, implication, it's not the network or the show for explicit sex scenes. Buck making a dirty face while saying the ring cutter was for "other stuff", well what other stuff can you think of? Hen and Chimney hanging out with Tommy at the bar in Bobby Begins Again, would Hen and Chimney knowingly become friends with someone who was still racist and misogynist that they had a problem with? These are all hardly refutable facts that just weren't shown explicitly on screen for whatever reasons.
A male character being emotionally repressed and having trouble dating women on the other hand, could be because he is attracted to men without knowing it, but it also could be due to all sorts of reasons like childhood trauma, religious trauma, trauma from the battlefield, unprocessed grief from on-and-off ex-wife suddenly dying in an accident so any sort of closure is no longer possible etc. Another male character looking after a good kid when his father is trying his best to juggle between raising him and being a first responder, could be because he is romantically interested in said single father and wants to become part of a traditional type of nuclear family unit with the kid, but it also could be just him being kind and empathetic, as he himself grew up with emotionally neglectful and absent parents. You can interpret these things all sorts of ways based on your personal experience, but the show itself doesn't tell you how to frame it, nor does it limits you. Though at the end of the day, other people may interpret the same piece of media in different ways, and that includes the showrunner, the writers and even the actors themselves.
And then there's conflating interpretation with irrefutable explicit fact, like I demonstrated in some of my posts. Like the moment after 7x10 came out, the whole fandom was enshrouded by debates over daddy kink. One side painted Tommy as a sexual predator who exploited Buck's moment of vulnerability to satisfy his own kinks (again, Buck started the daddy thing), the other side defended the rights for gay men to explore sexually whenever they like. Yes, the I know daddy kink is very common among the gay community, but the concept itself has become so mainstream the past few years (I blame Pedro Pascal) that it now vaguely means "an older man who is hot".
After a few weeks of thinking I'm crazy and I lack verbal and reading comprehensions, I finally read the source material behind most of the controversies, and I got things completely different from the mainstream discourse out there? I've never seen anyone from the production of the show explicitly stating or even imply a certain ship would come true? At most, they respect and validate fans' own interpretations of the story, that's it. It doesn't necessarily mean they agree with said interpretation, and it certainly does not invalidate other possibilities.
So here we are, some fans feel betrayed even though they were never promised anything. Other fans get nervous over stuff that is actually just an interpretation of a cast member's interview, which in itself is also an interpretation of their own character, but tutted as absolute fact by some.
Enjoying a piece of media is supposed to be about enjoyment, not like a part-time job, so enjoy the parts you like and ignore the rest. But if you want to participate in the fandom, and you feel anxious anytime there's rumors brewing, tracking down the source might actually bring you more peace.

WHATS UR LENA ANALYSIS
OKAY OKAY OKAY SO THIS IS GONNA BE A LONG ONE CAUSE I HAVE A LOT TO SAY BUT PUTTING IT INTO WORDS IS DIFFICULT 😭
SPOILERS UNDER CUT
Lena has been working at the OIAR for a good while now. Probably not always in the manager position but she's been around for some time. Before Colin, before Alice. before Amelia and around when Klaus was there (Probably not the manager when Klaus was there but not important) and ofc (now confirmed by ep13) she knows what the OIAR does
The video that gets sent to Gwen has Lena's name titled in the transcript as 'Young Lena' which further proves my point. She's been there a long time. awesome okay.
Was she always this stone cold, very distant and strange woman? I don't think so! We hear real emotion and passion in her tone when she says to Klaus 'you know I do' when talking about something. She was 100% not in charge then and even now, she has higher ups. thats the only time we really hear passion behind her words. Episode 2 when Gwen overhears Lena talking to someone about 'expanding external operations'. she's discussing externals with someone else who doesn't work in the building. She's not chosing which externals get what etc
okay. I truly believe Lena is exactly what the OIAR ever wanted, she is perfect material. Thinking back to Sam's interview in the trailer she mentions how he seems to be a 'bright and socialable young man who works hard' and that she 'would have no need for him'. the OIAR only hires people who are at a rocky place in their lives. I think the same was present when Lena was hired. Lena is the last one standing in whoever her coworkers previously were. you have to remember the OIAR has been around a good while now dating back to Starkwall protection services in 2000 and the magnus insititue even earlier than that. Alice says she THINKS it was made in the 70's. Lena also says 'most people simply move on after 12 months or so' again, she's been there ages if she's seen people come and go like that
Her parallels with Gwen are the next thing I want to talk about. they are complete opposites but I think Lena was exactly the same as Gwen years back. she knows what it's like to work her way up in the OIAR and what 'climbing this particular ladder entails'. so she has climbed up the rankings, probabaly by doing similar things to what Gwen is doing as of now. She says Gwen isnt ready for it. she knows how much shes suffered from it. she's been through so much to get where she is now. her 'did you scream? you should, it can help with the more afronting aspects' is throwing it in our face. she used to (maybe still is) being face to face with these horrors. she knows what it was like. and back to what she says to Klaus, it really doesn't look like she's ever got a say in this, similar to Gwen now.
my main thing I've analysed over Lena is her psychological state. she isn't your typical serious, emotionless character. she's not that at all cause she CAN have some uniqueness to her words, when she chuckled slightly at Gwen etc etc
she isn't emotionless (or evil) but she is very very detached. She is so emotionally detached from everything. she's had to detach her thoughts and feelings over the years to cope. Alice always mentions how you need to not care in this job and just not pay attention, I think that same goes for Lena
she's perfect for the job because she's so good at 'not caring'. After so many years of experiencing this stuff she probably built up a sort of immunity to it to keep herself safe. and she doesn't seem to care anymore. she has no thoughts or passion behind anything she does or says. She's so numb to it all and she's sacrificed part of herself to probably survive this whole thing. the OIAR only wants people who doesn't care about what happens and just gets it done. Gwen was freaking out when talking about Mr bonzo and Lena was speaking as if it was an everyday occurrence. even if you have seen supernatural stuff before, you don't react like that. That is such a traumatic response way of speaking. Her accepting that this is just how it is, is not good at all. she's been through hell guys I'm telling you
she's also in the manager position but she doesn't seem to use her authority too much. she uses it a normal amount but nothing that you'd expect. it's strange?
small unrelated to the actual story thing:
but in the cast q&a whenever Lena is mentioned everyone always says either 'unknown' or 'she doesn't'
it really seems like she has no depth to her at all. she threw any defining traits she had out the window
My theory on Lena as a whole is that subconsciously she became exactly what the OIAR wanted and now she's too far gone. She wasn't always like this but after so many years it's basically routine for her now. she doesn't want to hurt people and 'manage' the externals as she put it but she either just doesn't care anymore, or is acutely aware of what happens if she doesn't do her job correctly. maybe both. she's been almost brainwashed into thinking this is normal for the OIAR
I really want to know why and when Lena joined the OIAR. how she became manager etc etc and I really hope I can piece things together over time. she means so much to me. I don't think she's this evil spooky boss, I think she's just so emotionally numb and detached that she just doesnt know what to do with herself anymore
LAST THING
When Gwen is talking about Mr Bonzo in Episode 9 Lena goes "Possibly, I don't watch television"
Gwen was specifically talking about how she watched Mr bonzo as a kid all the time. Nigels SOS was huuuggeee back then
Lena was either lying I suppose? (I don't see why she would) or genuinely she didn't even watch TV as a kid (Lena is older than Gwen but still SOS was around a while and even if Lena was in her teen years she'd still be aware of it on TV)
Did Lena really never watch TV in her childhood at all? that's concerning to say the least about her backstory! maybe she couldnt catch a break in her childhood either
ANYWAY YEAH I THINK IVE GOT MOST OF WHAT I WANTED TO SAY INTO WORDS. THANK YOU FOR READING IF YOU DID :D I MIGHT BE WRONG BUT THATS WHAT IVE GOT OFF THE LITTLE WE GET OF HER
I love lena kelley 🥰

stolen moments (ccg universe)
words: 1,009 ship: austin butler x reader summary: @stylesmendeshearted requested: the first time Austin posted CCG on his Instagram or Instagram story? He couldn’t help but snap the picture because she looked so beautiful  notes: definitely inspired by the lovely edits bri has made me! they are here and here, check them out :) this is part of the coffee cart girl universe but can be read alone. masterlist here.  warnings: none tag list: @killerqueenfan, @karamelcoveredolicity, @elizabethrosecresswell, @gigisworldsstuff
You’ve known that even before you started dating that Austin’s always been a private person. There’s not a lot of sharing on his Instagram—moreso people who are friends with him share things of him; photos, videos, fan interactions, interviews, the works. Instagram for you has been sort of a…love-hate thing, given your relationship with Austin and your slow rise to stardom with the film you’ve written. You can completely understand wanting to take a step back from it all, wanting to create a safe distance between the noise and clutter of oversharing. Sometimes when things are posted on social media, they begin to feel less real, if that makes any sense.
Regardless, you also know how important it can be to check in, to keep that connection open with fans and promoters, people you’ve met and interacted with in the industry and the like. Austin’s a bit more cautious, which you can understand—and maybe that’s why it’s always surprising to you when you see Austin’s not only posted something on his Instagram, but that he’s tagged you in it.
Granted, Austin has posted some photos of you before, on and off. Mostly during your movie filming or when you’ve gone to events together for Elvis. Rarely does he share things that happen between you in your personal lives—that intimacy you have for your eyes only, which you can definitely appreciate. He doesn’t want to share you, which he’s said to your face a handful of times before and admittedly that always causes a bloom of warmth in your stomach to spread outward every time you think about it.
You’ve posted him a few times yourself, one of those things you can’t quite stop yourself from doing. It’s selfish, you know, because you undoubtedly love the idea of displaying how lucky you feel to have him in your life. It’s mostly videos on your story but there are some images uploaded in the gallery of your Instagram that have hundreds upon thousands of comments. You can’t possibly read or reply to all of them.
It was something to get used to, the multitude of feelings that strangers seem to have for you. You don’t let it bother you as much as it used to, understanding now that the relationship between you and your boyfriend is the only thing that you need to be concerned with. How you both feel, that’s all that matters.
The last photo you posted was the back of Austin against your shared Christmas tree. The glow of the sparkling lights settle beautifully on his skin and bring a certain warmth to the cream-colored sweater he’s wearing. He looks utterly comfortable, snuggly, the perfect representation of Christmas, that family sort of feeling that decorating the tree always brings you.
Comments were a range of familiar faces and emotions—
jillian.mua: he’s the perfect height to put on the tree topper coffee.girl: @jillian.mua personal Christmas assistant 🎅 austinfan21: FINALLY some content—girl bye he’s so fine, even faceless elvisgal: why does she post stuff like this—like we get it, you’re austin’s girlfriend austinfan21: @elvisgal if it bothers u so much why are u even following her? ashleytisdale: come do my tree next austinbutler: @ashleytisdale don’t even start coffee.girl: @ashleytisdale @austinbutler 🥰🥰🥰
Tapping open the notification, the photo loads that Austin’s posted and a small smile tugs at the corners of your mouth when you realize it’s from this morning. It was one of those lazy type of wake ups, no rhyme or reason to get out of bed too early but the sun was already up so you decided to make breakfast. You’re in a pair of Austin’s shorts and t-shirt, the fabric a little oversized but you love the feeling of it hugging your form. You had made breakfast, it waiting on the kitchen counter when Austin got up…you hadn’t realized he’d snapped this photo of you while you cleaned up some dishes at the sink.
Humming, you run your thumb over the image, remembering how Austin came up behind you. He wrapped his arms around your waist, squeezing gently, his chin hooking over your shoulder. You can still feel the heat of his body, solid, against your back, his breath skittering down your neck and giving you goosebumps, one of his hands slipping up and under the shirt you were wearing just to touch skin to skin.
In those quiet early mornings, you think you fall in love with him all over again.

Despite hearing the front door open to signal Austin’s home, you click on the comment icon and leave a heart emoji, closing the app. His phone pings as he comes into the kitchen, giving you a soft smile—he must have his notifications on for your account. Reaching for you, he draws you into his chest with a fond noise, leaning down to press a kiss to your forehead. He hasn’t been gone for too long, just a lunch date with Baz, but you can literally feel the relief flooding through your chest with being connected to him once again.
“Thought you might like that.”
“I didn’t know you took it,” You comment, crinkling your nose as you rest your hands on his chest. “Sneaky.” He definitely didn’t have to post it…but it kinda means something to you that he did.
Austin brings his hand up to curl hair around your ear, his thumb tracing a line along your jaw for a moment, “I know social media isn’t really my thing but,” He shrugs his one shoulder, “Couldn’t resist.”
“Careful, I’m gonna start feeling spoiled.”
He purses his lips, another kiss to the corner of your mouth this time, “Sounds like I’m just gonna have to do it more often.”
Grinning up at him, you press yourself up onto your toes to kiss him properly—you definitely don’t hate the sound of that.

Thanksgiving break is almost here! I have two more written requests to post (drunk!austin and angry!austin) but my requests are open if you’d like to leave something! or just say hello :) thanks for reading,

Alex Turner for OOR Magazine (October 2022)
Conducted in August 20th 2022 by Willem Bemboom
Alex in the sun on a terrace. Leather jacket, classic shades, a big head of hair in desperate need of a handful of Brylcreem. He almost looks like a time-traveller, someone from another dimension, unmoved by the sounds of the city in the distance and the swelling lunch crowd around us.
He talks slowly and dragging, as if the battery is almost flat.  His pauses in thought are numerous and stretched out, sometimes to determine what he DOES want to say, more often to think about what he does NOT want to say. Apparently he is so used to intelligent or difficult questions, that the easy ones throw him off. What are you listening to? What has changed? What do you think yourself is the most beautiful lyric? Endless silences, you can almost hear the brain cracking. But they are by no means painful. The lesson taken from previous interviews - and in fact the essence of Arctic Monkeys: just let Alex Turner meditate, that's where eventually the best things come from.
The sunglasses meanwhile are being taken on and off every minute. With wide eyes full of wonder Turner turns the casual things lying on the table into a journey of discovery. OOR's old trusted dictaphone for example. 'Reliable stuff', he judges. ‘At worst eats your tape one time, but such a device will not betray you. Two buttons, on, off, record, play. You don't need more options. I want to start working with these things a bit more.”
He weighs the device for a moment, as if he is testing a peach or tomato at the local fruit & veg. A mysterious short laugh follows. Who knows what goes on in that head.
The Car as a record makes an analogous impression, either way in terms of technique and instrumentation.
Right? Texture wise for sure. Old instruments, string arrangements. The ideas are kneaded to songs with human hands. Although this time we also have a Moog.
And the subjects as well seem to come from a different time. Classic Hollywood, faded glory, but also Cold War stuff. In various songs there are spying elements sneaking around.
That’s for sure what I’m doing in the new songs. Think of Gene Hackman in The Conversation, you have to search in circle of people as such.Vague surveillance stuff, listening devices [focuses on the recorder again]. A bit like how this conversation is also being recorded, haha.
Social media seems completely absent, you are far from sketching a contemporary time frame. People talk on the phone together.
Good point. I imagine that phone in Big Ideas like that, on the wall, with a turntable. It is indeed an analog world, there is no apping or anything like that. On the first song on our first record I sing about a phone that is being unlocked [The View From The Afternoon]. You had to press the asterisk key to avoid accidentally turning on your cell phone. We still play that song every night, I’ve now sang it so often that I’m not thinking about those lyrics at all. A few days ago I did have a clear mind and suddenly I realised: gosh, this is not how phones are any more! Back in the days I was more up-to-date with my technological references, on AM there are still text messages and such. That's gone now. I have gone back in time, it seems.
Your previous album took place at the moon. Where - and especially when - is The Car set?
Hm. [long silence] You know what, I really don't have any idea whatsoever. Even for Tranquility Base I now wonder if it all took place at the moon. That sort of thing reveals itself only later, sometimes even a lot later. The music triggers something in me, I build on the atmosphere and the sound, and I just let The Idea run wild - though I refine the lyrics endlessly after they get into shape. But the source? Dunno, that can't be guided or be explained. I did try to steer away a bit more from the sci-fi idiom than on the previous one. Whether it succeeded is question number two. For some reason there’s somehow always science fiction seeping through.
You now refer in several numbers to old movies and showbiz, like the musical Anything Goes, 1930s Broadway, with music by Cole Porter. New fascination?
Hmmm, no. By the way, it is indeed lifted from a movie. Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom begins with the song Anything Goes, from that musical, sung in Chinese. Nice opening, although I’m certainly not the biggest Indiana Jones fan. I suddenly thought about it, so it ended up in that song. That's how it goes with most things. Who knows where it comes from and what it means. It's suddenly there.
Is Sculptures Of Anything Goes a New York song? Apart from the Broadway link you sing about 'city life 09', the period you lived in Brooklyn, and ‘Village coffee mornings, with not long since retired spies’.
As in: written in New York? No, I haven't been to New York in ages. The Village is in there…. I think this is another of those science fiction things. You've been nervously playing around with that empty cassette box for 15 minutes now, and I’m now imagining that it contains City Life 09. I’m fond of the idea there will be a city life cartridge in the future, a simulation that you can board. I’m imagining a full box of those cartridges, from 1929 to 1959 to 1969 to 1979 to 1989 and so on. That’s because I think there should be intervals of ten years to notice a substantial difference in such a huge city. And the 2009 one is missing from that lyric, it's inside the machine because it's used most often. Whether it's also refers to my time in New York… No idea. It's purely a bit of fantasy.
Let’s swap the fantasy for the facts for a little bit: where and when did you start making this record?
Even before the lockdowns, right away after the Tranquility Base tour in South America. In April and May 2019 I wrote the first attempts of new songs, we already recorded some bits in late 2019, but that attempt led to nothing. Only after the lockdowns we came back together again, last summer, in Butley Priory, an old monastery at the coast of Suffolk. No one knew we were there, it was a remote place. It reminded me of our first record, when we went from the madhouse to the countryside for a while as well. We never did that again ever since, until now. Recording a record in England also was a while ago, same counts for a summer album. So there we were again, at the English countryside, as a rrrrock band! [big eyes and a rolling rrrrr] No distractions, like in the city. Extra focus, no prying eyes. All in the same zone. Good morning, you know.
We will come back at that ‘rock band’ part for a bit later. What did a day in Suffolk look like for the rest?
Oh, every morning we got trumpeted out of our beds with a reveille. And a while after a bell was ringing: go to work, lazy bastards! Thereafter a Powerpoint presentation with schedules and tactics. No, just joking, it was the opposite. Very calm and relaxed, everything in our own tempo. These days I find it essential to take the time. That’s because every project has to search and find its own way. As a maker you also have to let a piece of work go its own way. During the summer of 2019 I read a book about movie editing, In The Blink Of An Eye by Walter Murch. Although movie editing is not my discipline, I did get interesting things out of it anyway, there are parallels with how I put together a record these days. Editing usually involves cutting out bad bits. The question that immediately arises: what is a bad bit? Are there bad bits at all? This Sir Murch calls the process of editing the discovery of a path through all the available material. The more you shot, the more possible paths there are. And because I had quite a lot of ideas, more than ever actually, which all wanted to exist, it was extra important to especially follow the feeling. Sometimes I got a direction in mind, and then the piece itself drags you in the opposite direction anyway. It has other ideas. It lives, it is an entity. Let it go. That’s how it went now as well.
You keep on avoiding the meaning of your lyrics. Is the writing of it not a conscious process then?
Hmmm, that always comes last anyway. I am endlessly adjusting and rewriting. When we were working on the music in Suffolk, I hardly sang on top of it. I do believe that at this moment in time I write down what I am experiencing more directly. I'm a bit more open, more honest, apparently inspired by four guys who are just standing together in a room making music.
What do you consider your favourite find on The Car?
Oh… I forgot to bring my cheat sheet. I’ve got a folder with notes, which I planned on bringing with me. But it also feels a little know-it-all and self-conscious to start giving a lecture from my own notes here. My best line… I wouldn’t know! I simply don’t know all the lyrics by heart yet. [long pause] I think ‘Big Ideas’ as a whole is a very accomplished song.
Ah, with the ‘hysterical scenes’ that are reminiscent of a band just breaking through. ‘We had ‘em out of their seats, waving their arms and stomping their feet’ – that’s where the echo of Monkeymania is audible.
Strange times.
Or just The Beatles. ‘Clap your hands and stomp your feet’, is what Lennon sometimes shouted from the stage…
Hm, yeah. No. Here I imagine sort of more like a movie producer giving someone a call. Or something like that.
Big Ideas is full of melancholy – and that counts for more songs in general.
It’s not just in the words, you know. Yes, so that’s how it works for me: the words arise from the feeling the music evokes. The melody supplies the words and ideally they complement each other. In that way, the things it makes you say are indeed not conscious. It purely revolves around what the music allows you to say.
“Over and out, it’s been a thrill”, you sing on Big Ideas. Hello You, Jet Skis On The Moat and Perfect Sense also contain “goodbyes” and “goodnights”. Are you saying goodbye to something?
Yeah, I think that’s fair. That all has to do with where I arrived in life at the moment. I’m 36, the band exists for about twenty years, including the whole run-up. So I’ve been in the band for more than half of my life. You leave things behind, while the clock keeps ticking. People, places, your younger self. Time. Though that’s not necessarily a bad thing, you get new things in return. But it’s human nature to sometimes look back on what has been, what’s behind you. Though I’m pretty good at leaving things behind.
Like loud guitar music for example.
[big eyes] Ha!
The rrrrrrrrock band you just mentioned is not the same as the one from 2006 anymore.
Haha, not on the record, no! But on stage we just keep on rocking, that all co-exists. But you know what’s the funny thing? We could very well still have made a loud guitar record after all. If the music had asked for it, I think I would have obediently followed. When we finished touring in 2019, everything pointed in that direction. Much louder than Tranquility Hotel, in any case. But that started to shift towards a different direction and that’s why we took a break from it at the time. I was afraid I would start forcing things. And sometimes you just have to accept the fact you can’t go back to the riffs from ten years ago. At the end of the tour I knew what kind of songs I wanted to do, with the lights of the stage still in my eyes and the thundering roars of the audience in my ears. Big, loud guitars should have been part of that. That’s what I’m gonna do! I even put on my motorcycle boots to get a hold of that mood. But that didn’t feel right in the end, as said. You’re not that person anymore, your music wants to go in a different direction. Then I can only follow that.
Put the Arctic Monkeys who were recording at the English countryside in 2006 next to the band working at Suffolk last summer. Not to see what has changed, but what hasn’t changed?
Well, everything has changed. [2 minutes of silence while you can almost hear a movie playing in his head] … except for the countryside and England, haha! I did find it more fun this time though. Maybe because right now we finally know what we’re doing. Yes, that has remained the same. The only reason we now can not make a loud guitar record in all peace and comfort, is because we’re still Arctic Monkeys. Everyone has grown up, the essence of the band has grown with us. The faces are a bit more round, the boys call their children instead of their parents, but the feeling remains the same. Life itself happened – and not in an unpleasant way. It’s all good, everything. Yes, it’s fine.
Why did you have more fun now than back then? Did that 20 year old kid that recorded ‘Whatever People Say I Am…’ not know what he was doing?
Not what happened to him, no. It was a great time, but oh dear, so much stress! Now I’m completely relaxed in everything I do. Looking back at 2006, everything was so… tight! My guitar was hanging just below my chin, the strap was almost pinched around my back. That example alone. I let the guitar nicely hang nowadays. And sometimes I even leave it in its stand. The schedules are looser, the people are looser, the music is looser. Less heavy, not as frenetic and whaaaargh! It’s fitting better in its own skin. Just like ourselves. The jacket is hanging loosely unbuttoned. I’m sitting behind a grand piano in the corner. And still it feels like Arctic Monkeys, because we’re still walking the same path, however strange the path winds. The same timeline and the same principles. The path, following the music, is the constant factor. 15 years ago we followed our instinct as young lads and The Record is what resulted from it. Now we’re still doing that, and this time that record is The Car.
Oh yeah, The Car. What kind of car is it?
Just a car.
Does it stand for anything?
No, it’s standing on a roof. The cover photo was taken by Matthew Helders, our drummer. When I saw that photo a few years ago, I immediately knew it had the potential to be an album cover for the band. There’s not just spies and goodbyes in the lyrics, if you listen closely you can hear a few cars. And after [raises voice] Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino the temptation to call something ‘The Car’ is simply too big. It is what it is.
So just a car.
Yep. And that car on the cover in particular.
Where was the photo taken?
If I’m not mistaken, in Los Angeles.
Ah, Los Angeles. There you’re nothing without a car. What kind do you drive?
I don’t own a car. I’m back in London now and it’s just not practical there. No car…
Where did you used to go on holidays as a kid?
Oh, eh, Eastbourne, on the south shore. With my grandparents on the Dotto Train, one of those tourist carts along the beach. But how did we suddenly end up here?
I wondered about this when I heard The Car, the song. Nicely melancholic, you sing about past holidays, falling asleep at the back seat.
But that doesn’t take place in Eastbourne [rolls his eyes]. But where does it take place, I can hear you think… In a parallel universe full of espionage and science fiction, haha!
Sounds exciting. Have you ever tried writing a script yourself?
No. The kind of stories I tell are mostly… based on the music and the melodical ideas, as I already explained. Those bring forth the story. If I wouldn’t have that, I would struggle. I would like to learn this though, sometime, one day. But I’m not working on it now, it’s a whole different skill to the one I’ve currently got on board. Never say never, we’ll see. But definitely not tomorrow [thinks for a bit, laughs]. Tomorrow’s Pukkelpop. There’s no time for drafting scripts. Although it is a world I would like to roam about, one I’d like to explore. At the Priory I had an old 16mm camera with me, one that fits in the palm of your hand and you have to crank up yourself. Still not even close to Hollywood. But ah well, that’s a hobby.
What music are you listening to yourself at the moment?
[two minutes of silence] I used to be able to always draw a straight line from what I was listening to right to the new record, that’s different now, I think. No more adding this, this, this and this and you’ve got the new Monkeys. It’s not as clear what those things are this time, not even for me.
If you could go to Record Palace at the opposite of Paradiso with 50 euros right now, what would you pick from there?
Oh wow, that place is amazing! I actually should stop by there later. We’ve been so busy fine-tuning the show, this morning I only took a walk in the park for a bit… Lovely morning.
But at the moment you’re listening to…
Oh man… After finishing the record, nothing for a while, for a few months. Now it’s starting up again a bit. Headphones on… listening to things. What do I want to share here right now?
I’ll just write down Nookie by Limp Bizkit.
Oh no. Is that a threat? Alright, in that case do… Nat King Cole! The song ‘Where Did Everybody Go’. Why? That’s why.
At There’d Better Be A Mirrorball you actually sound a bit like Nat King Cole. Coincidence?
Ha, that’s nice! Eh, yes, coincidence. On the other hand: what’s a coincidence?
You sing a lot in falsetto, you croon, sometimes you’re channelling Bowie. Are you still looking for your voice or are you finally coming close?
Always in search of! You look for a manner of singing that guides the music the easiest way. A way that’s in tune with the feeling you wanna convey. That’s the hardest part… no, that’s what you’re aiming for, that connection.
Connection with?
With what you can’t really grasp. And can’t understand. Or can’t express into words. How you as a normal little person can become part of that wonder, the music. There’s a technical component to it, by practicing a lot I can reach a higher pitch or hold a note better. Those are means. The purpose is something bigger though. There’s this great song on Sinatra at the Sands, 'Don’t Worry About Me', that he introduces as one of the best songs ever. In one part of a verse he sings a step-up note, bigger and bigger, that fills all gaps in the notes just to get to the next step. It’s off, but because of that it’s actually perfectly right. It stands out. That’s why I call magic. That’s what it’s about. Getting completely lost in that feeling and getting to a place where everything is right. Even when it’s not right. Even more so when it’s not right. Then you know it’s right.

hey, i’m the Anon with the “if he wanted to, he would”/sophie precedent theory! thanks for reading it :)
just wanted to totally agree that it was def immediately noticeable to me as well that it was always N taking over the shipping questions and it seemed intentional and strategic. That’s an interesting theory, about him not answering to leave that door open. I think it could be part of the reasoning.
i think PR was involved and I think it was intentional for a few reasons:
by not saying anything, it gave L plausible deniability with his relationship status during the press tour (at a starting point where 95% of bridgerton fans had no idea about A) bc maybe their PR teams anticipated that fans could be like “why didn’t he ever mention having a gf, like corey did?” bc let’s be real, it totally benefits netflix/shonda/luke’s PR to leave his new relationship status as ambiguous as possible to fans leading up to the premiere. part of the entire purpose of the 6 month long press tour was to emphasize L and N’s chemistry in interviews and fuel the shipping rumors to get potential viewers hyped for the show and ultimately benefit everyone’s bottom line ($$$).
By the time the press tour had started, L and A had likely only been dating for like 2-3 months (the earliest evidence I’ve personally seen is from November from their Soho trip with R/S, not sure if they dated before then tho…) so the relationship was still very fresh, probably too fresh for L to want to bring up having a partner, as he had done in interviews before with J (they even walked the BS2 carpet together), but if he didn’t ever bring up A he prob knew that would be salt on the wound for her during this whole press tour emphasizing L and N’s chemistry bc she obv doesn’t want their relationship to be secret. So I can totally understand L wanting to take the easy way out from having to bring his relationship status into question at all and just letting N answer every time so that he didn’t even have to touch that particular topic with 10 foot pole lol.
If I was L I would also want N to answer those questions for me bc she’s a quick thinker and she’s incredibly good at reliably giving consistent answers that also don’t reveal TOO much, but worded in ways that still come off totally sincere and leave fans happy. She’s super PR-savvy and a total pro fielding tough questions (see: her iconic response about the perfect breast community!). Whereas I feel like L (although he also has his moments where he shines!) has a bit of a harder time getting there and gets more nervous, so he slips up sometimes and blurts stuff out that he perhaps didn’t mean to lol (Barbie comment, the ride innuendos, “the fans are gonna love this” when wiping N’s mouth that shot their PR in the foot a little lol, acknowledging live that he revealed too much about part 2 filming after he saw the look N gave him, totally misunderstanding the question about the carriage scene filming ‘taking too long’, etc) but tbf it’s hard not to with SO many interviews. I think L has a tougher time when he’s put on the spot. And it does make me feel like perhaps his feelings towards N and their relationship are more complicated than they let on if this is a question that flusters him enough to want to completely avoid it straight up.
I think to me it was also a way for them to emphasize their “unique connection” and “love for one another” that, besides prob being true IRL, is also an important point to make to fans to sort of “let them down easy” bc Luke is in a relationship. It’s a win-win to have N be the one to say these things, bc A doesn’t have to be uncomfy hearing her bf gush about his relationship with his co-star to the world in any capacity at all, while N has more of a pass to hype up their “unique love” without her words being microanalyzed or put out of context bc she’s not the one in the relationship. L faces a higher burden of proof in that sense to say things that don’t blur the lines or put his relationship status or his loyalty to his gf in question, but that goal is contradicted by the PR strategy of hyping up L and N’s chemistry in the extreme way that they did lol so it’s just easier for everyone for L to say nothing at all.
sorry, u can tell i have way too many thoughts about this and too much free time at the moment lol. but thanks for reading! it’s honestly fascinating to see this play out (i think bc of how insane their chemistry is so we all get way too invested) and i love having a place to have a lil gossip about it lol even if in the end they do or don’t ever get together (but i’ll always hope they pull a bob/eliza!).
First off just want to say I love that you have taken the time to respond with a thesis.
I fucking love it!!!
So many great points to consider here!
I definitely fall on the side that certain topics he just found easier for N to handle and this was one of them. But you gave a lot of nuance to factor into that decision. So thank you!
Glad you are here in our little corner of the internet to gossip with!

(admin stuff includes : today is July 31st, 2024. I've been having this theory in some form since early in 2023, like about the month after the Return Tour completed in Japan. And it's finally come time to write down my potential prescience. I also want the record to show that in an effort not to shove my potential theory into the fandom's circuit, I'm posting this privately for now. I will make this public either after WWWY2 has finished, if my theory becomes the collective one before then, or if my theory is disproven before the time in which I have theorized.)
All said, there's a prerequisite understanding going into this. You must be willing to buy into the idea that MCR5 is Real and it is Coming. If you have that prerequisite met, other helpful things to have include
Knowing some MCR lore, broadly
Being aware of the specific ways MCR has been opaque and cryptic in the history of the band. Good examples include the lead-up to the Return announcement
The sheer time scale at which they Plan these things
Can't hurt to also know about Gerard's old interviews in which they talked frequently about the ways the Smashing Pumpkins influenced the trajectory of the band, and the ways that this directly contributed to the tinhatting of the fandom in the Hiatus Period
All to say, I believe that I'm being backed up by the methods that MCR have often taken to breadcrumb about their plans in ways that are effective, but only if you have a certain level of colloquial understanding of their particular style of dropping breadcrumbs. Which, in my experience, is a long haul sort of thing - less 100-meter-dash, more cross-country-marathon. Like the aforementioned Smashing Pumpkins inspo being used as the foundation for why exactly MCR would definitely be reuniting in 2019 - the original interviews mostly happened between 2007-2009 iirc, and that's still easily a year ahead of when the breakup really happened.
So. My theory, which is dated in its current iteration to this moment (but I'll backdate my officially going hard into it back to Halloween 2023 because I think that's about the time I realized how much the breadcrumbs of it all impacted my opinion here) begins with, duh, MCR5 is happening. I believe it, I Know it, and I won't be discussing the decade and a half of knowledge I'm using to make the claim, you just have to accept it. It's happening. The when and where are the big question marks, much the same way that pretty much everything about What's Next With MCR are also huge question marks.
I think I know the answer is what I'm saying. All this big preamble exists just to say, I think I know when and where and all the rest of the answers. I think I've known since... Ok I guess it's actually November 17 2023.
Theory : I believe MCR was a driving force behind the addition of Day 2 of WWWY Festival. I believe that the box office draw of this band gave them plenty of social currency they could leverage into legitimately getting a bunch of festival organizers to add a second day. I think the only caveat any reasonable event coordinator might have would be that the first date would have to sell out first before a second day could be added. I also think MCR aren't stupid and collectively were Aware that their presence at the festival would absolutely bring those sales through the roof.
I think they've had this plan since at least the Australian/Japanese leg of the Return, in some form. I think they may have finessed and altered it, may have even intentionally delayed it due to Frank's side time with LS Dunes - and perhaps a mosaic of other factors I don't have access to or knowledge of. But I think the plan is as follows with regard to what Will Happen. MCR will take the stage on Day 1 of WWWY2 and they will play The Black Parade, start-to-finish. They Will Not play the stage show that they killed in Mexico, in fact I'm willing to bet they will undersell their own theatricality for Day 1. This is important and intentional. I am willing to bet they will fill the time with B-Sides if needed - maybe even mixing the B-Sides with the original release. That wouldn't surprise me. The point is, I believe they will at least play KAYF and All The Angels. I Don't think they'll play anything from other eras on Day 1. But I'd argue that if they do, it'll be as an encore, a 3-piece-set encore. Blood isn't part of the encore by the way in this version of the set. Either it's the final song of an encore that's just their most loved B Sides after the entirety of Black Parade, or, it's the last song before an encore of 3 songs - Vampires Will Never Hurt You or Skylines and Turnstiles as the first, Helena, You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us, or TYFTV as the second, and Kids for the third. I'm willing to concede I have strong preferences for specific picks, but I also don't think it matters what is done there - I think what matters is, it'll be a 3-song encore set that the band finds emblematic of each of the Non-Black-Parade eras. Who knows, it could be all Non-Album Tracks. An encore could even just not happen - very like them, in some way. The point is, my theory is, Day 1 of WWWY2 is about being a prelude to Day 2, and underselling themselves in that prelude.
I think at the end of Day 1's set, the official site will be updated - next 5 tour dates will appear, or some other announcement if they're feeling generous, something cryptic à la the Return teaser if they're not. Again, this is a prelude - all window dressing, actually. It's why I think they're going to undersell their theatrical bent for this performance.
I think it'll cause uproar, of course, because people will wanna know why they went so Under Expectation, underperforming, whatever. I think the girlies and gays will be rightly Irate at the Horrors for the performance on Day 1. I think it'll be exactly what they said it would be right down the line, and the MCRmy collectively will be Upset. But hopeful.
I think day 2 will be insane.
You see, I remember exactly where I was when Foundations dropped, and I think that's the level of warning they intend to give for anything that comes next. It's not that they didn't leave breadcrumbs for Foundations, it's that until it had actually blindsided the collective MCRmy, nobody had the answer for what those breadcrumbs added up to, just a lot of guesses.
Day 2: they will open the performance 'as usual' with The End and, likely, Dead!. Maybe they'll be really cheeky as it were and get through Welcome To The Black Parade, but I think they'll monopolize their time, so they'll start like they did the night before, but with more theatricality (either marginally or overtly). I also think that by either the end of Dead! or WTTBP, The Thing will have dropped online. My hope and strongest theory is, no warning, they will drop MCR5 in its entirety online and then proceed to perform it in its entirety with the remainder of their set.
(Alternatively, they will still perform the whole thing, but the online drop will be a complete list of tour dates, and/or album announcement.
Otherwise, I could see an Ultimate Greatest Hits Mashup as the set, with either, both, or all being dropped online, either over the course of their set or as one giant Drop at some strategic point during or immediately following their performance.)
What will be dropped, and when, is still a lot of variables based on which breadcrumbs I'm parsing and in what ways I'm analyzing them. My strongest feeling, though, is that Day 2 will neither be a repeat of Day 1, nor will it have anything to do with The Black Parade except in that they're using that as a ... window dressing and prelude to what's Actually Happening. And while I'm willing to concede there's multiple possibilities for what's Actually Happening, I think there's some breadcrumbs that strongly suggest, What's Actually Happening is an album release party that will correctly shatter expectations and cause a collective MCRmy meltdown.
Anyway I kinda look forward to being proven so stupidly wrong, but God can you even Imagine if I were right? Lol

"THE HANGED MAN."
KIM KITSURAGI - "Great! That's great. That's actually what *I* was thinking too -- THE HANGED MAN. Good, strong name. We have a very good name for the case now."
He flips the pages of his notebook. "I'm going to start calling it THE HANGED MAN. It's good we sorted this out."
Task complete: Read your ledger and name the case
+30 XP
4. I'm done inspecting these. (Close the case files.)
DAMAGED LEDGER - You don't exactly *close* them, so much as *distance* yourself from the smelly papers. They're a little further from your nose now.
We've unlocked a check to read the files.
Tumblr media
+1 Kim explained the system.
3. [Logic - Medium 11] Can I read the case files now?
Tumblr media
LOGIC [Medium: Failure] - It's possible: yes. Easy: no. You need to come up with a small archaeological system to re-order the remains of your past works. At the moment all they do is fall apart in your hands. Some dates and the numeric titular system is all you have.
Reading the case files would take some time, anyway.
4. Browse the *yellow* pages.
DAMAGED LEDGER - In the back you see thin translucent copier paper -- some neon yellow, some bright red -- all covered in boxes, like marching armies. These look like official forms, waiting to be filled out...
LOGIC [Easy: Success] - ...then *rip* them from the binder, and hand them out. According to type of form.
What types of forms are there?
DAMAGED LEDGER - Three. The topmost are MISCONDUCT FINES, the middle ones are STATION CALLS, and the bottommost are FIELD AUTOPSY FORMS. Each is easy enough to make sense of.
MISCONDUCT FINE.
STATION CALL.
FIELD AUTOPSY.
Enough of these. (Close forms).
DAMAGED LEDGER - A monetary penalization ranging from 20 to 250 reál. Severe cases allow for 1000 reál, but that requires special paperwork. The details of issuing these fines are spread out over the rest of the fields.
2. STATION CALL.
DAMAGED LEDGER - These are quite sinister in tone. They give a date and time for the person to 'appear' at the specified Precinct Police Station. Below the 'call' are the criminal charges you risk by 'not appearing'.
3. FIELD AUTOPSY.
DAMAGED LEDGER - A dozen pages of thin copy paper, bright red in colour. You see the parameters of a deceased human form, waiting to be filled in: age, sex, condition of internal organs...
4. Enough of these. (Close forms.)
DAMAGED LEDGER - Yes -- all that remains now is to fill those forms and *hand* them to people: fines for wrongdoers, interview requests for bad guys, and field autopsies to *dead* guys.
+5 XP
AUTHORITY [Medium: Success] - What delicious power hid within this pathetic mess... you feel better.
+1 Healed Health
DAMAGED LEDGER - The rest of the stinking cellulose is *much* worse for wear. Being sandwiched between the board and the rest of the paperwork must have spared the fragile copier paper.
5. Look at the clipboard.
DAMAGED LEDGER - It's made of dark blue plastic hard enough to beat someone to submission with. The edges are rounded, however. The U4-sized board feels thick and heavy in your hand. Light shimmers on its wet surface. On the back you see the embossed letters: RCM.
What did you say the colour was?
Shake the ledger.
Back to the rest of this mess.
DAMAGED LEDGER - Blue.
INLAND EMPIRE [Medium: Success] - The blue heart. Don't look into it.
2. Shake the ledger.
DAMAGED LEDGER - Something rattles inside, ever so lightly. Is there... a hidden compartment?
Peek inside.
DAMAGED LEDGER - The plastic shimmers like lapis lazuli, but it is not see-through. You cannot see to its centre...
3. How would I open it? (Conclude.)
DAMAGED LEDGER - With your hands? U4-sized pages hang from the clip screwed to the top of the board.
Tumblr media
We'll try this Interfacing check in a minute.
7. Smell the ledger.
DAMAGED LEDGER - The acidic stench of rotting food has rubbed off on the cellulose. It now forms the *base* of the experience. This base surrounded by a faint air of spoiled meat -- the stuff of death itself! -- and then sprinkled liberally with the citrus zest of toilet cleaner.
Tumblr media
6. [Interfacing - Medium 10] Open the hidden compartment in the clipboard.
Tumblr media
INTERFACING [Medium: Success] - Hmm. The two sides of the board appear slightly misaligned. Like a drawer that's come off the slides. If you *bend* the plastic on your knee, slowly...
...the slides *snap* back into place. It should be possible to just... you know...
Slide the drawer open.
Wait... somehow I don't want to.
Fuck no -- put the ledger away. [Leave.]
DAMAGED LEDGER - What are you waiting for? Just...
INLAND EMPIRE [Medium: Success] - That's because you know where this leads to.
HORRIFIC NECKTIE - That doesn't sound like it's gonna be *fun*.
Slide the drawer open.
DAMAGED LEDGER - Without resistance -- or sound -- the two panels move against each other. The compartment is now open.
What's inside?
DAMAGED LEDGER - Two ticket stubs and a handmade postcard.
Tumblr media
Pick up the ticket stubs.
Pick up the card. (Proceed.)
Fucking kill yourself you asshole.
Close the permeables' compartment.
DAMAGED LEDGER - Two octopuses are smiling, reaching their tentacles toward each other in the coloured pencil drawings. The tickets permit access to a zoo in Revachol East. The aquarium costs extra -- these let you go there too.
2. Pick up the card. (Proceed.)
DAMAGED LEDGER - Thin wax paper has been glued to a piece of cardboard. Sounds like leaves rustling when you pick it up -- you see violet flowers, floral patterns, patches of glue.
Smell it first.
Open it.
Put it back.
DAMAGED LEDGER - It smells of chewing gum -- apricot flavoured.
PERCEPTION (SMELL) [Easy: Success] - A touch of cinnamon, the end of summer. You think the label says: 'Tutti Frutti'.
Open it.
DAMAGED LEDGER - Familiar handwriting lines the inside of the card -- looped, round letters in a woman's hand.
VISUAL CALCULUS [Easy: Success] - A young woman in her twenties. There is care, effort, and a *smile*, you think -- although that is not something you can read from someone's handwriting.
DAMAGED LEDGER - "Harry," it begins -- you're already reading. "I wanted to write you a letter, so you can read it when you wake up. Maybe it will make you happy."
VOLITION [Easy: Success] - Throw it away. Please.
But it will make me *happy*...
DAMAGED LEDGER - A merciful wind blows in from the Bay of Revachol, dusting the ground at your feet and raising newspapers far away. You feel the card slipping into it...
What was that?
Throw the card into the wind.
Hold onto it. Read the card.
SHIVERS - Frisson covers your entire body. A feeling of cold. A persistent chill.

'I had £3,000 stolen via WhatsApp job scam message'
By Dan Whitworth
Money Box reporter, BBC Radio 4
When Bella Betterton fell victim to a recruitment scam and had £3,000 stolen, she felt “attacked” and “distraught”.
The 18-year-old had been contacted by scammers first via WhatsApp messages and then phone calls and thought she had taken part in a real job interview.
But the fraudsters tricked her card details out of her to steal the money.
New figures show the amount of money reported stolen via recruitment scam text and WhatsApp messages jumped from £20,000 to nearly £1m in the past year.
City of London Police say the number of people reporting these scams to Action Fraud increased more than eightfold.
But this may just be “the tip of the iceberg”, according to City of London Police Temporary Commander Oliver Shaw, as this type of fraud is “hugely underreported”.
Sophisticated scam
Recruitment scams involve criminals luring victims with the promise of extra work or income before conning them out of bank details or taking control of their phones to steal money.
Bella, from Devon, contacted Radio 4’s Money Box after she became a victim in October.
Bella Betterton
She is hoping to start a five-year biochemistry degree next year so has taken a gap year to try to save up £10,000 to be able to afford to start studying.
The £3,000 that was stolen was all the money she had managed to save up by working full-time over the summer.
“I’d just lost a job I’d had for three years and was trying to find my feet again to be able to keep saving for uni,” she says.
“I’d put my CV out there so thought it [the scam text message]… was a legitimate thing.”
The scammers carried out what Bella thought was a genuine interview with her over the phone for a remote working job involving her using their money to buy and review products.
So sophisticated was the scam the criminals groomed Bella with dozens and dozens of messages and phone calls until, over the course of a few hours one afternoon, they used all the details they’d tricked out of her, along with what she suspects was malware put on her phone, to make four large card payments to a cryptocurrency exchange using her money.
“When I looked at my phone and saw all these payments… [I felt] complete shock, panic. I didn’t know if I could stop them, if there was a way of sorting it out.
“I didn’t know how to cancel or talk to people or to protect my bank account. I’d never dealt with anything like this before.
“I felt quite attacked by it. It was three months’ of work, the whole summer, 50 to 55-hour weeks. So I was pretty distraught and upset by it all.”
How to report a scam message
WhatsApp has lots of advice on how to protect yourself from scams on its website.
You can report a scam text message by forwarding it to 7726 which spells out SPAM on a keypad. If it’s a spam email forward it to [email protected]
Valuable data
Figures from City of London Police show 15 people reported being scammed out of £20,040 to Action Fraud in 2022.
Last year, 126 people reported £977,581 being stolen.
Dr Lis Carter, a criminologist at Kingston University who is an expert in the language and phrases fraudsters use to trick their victims, says recruitment scams are a high-volume, multi-stage crime.
“These text messages will only be relevant to a certain number of people… but it’s a numbers game. Criminals only need a few people to respond and the victims are self selecting.
“Fraudsters will take a victim through several stages, things you’d normally expect a HR department to be asking – name, address, date of birth, bank details.
“All of that stuff is valuable data in itself, so even if that case doesn’t turn into fraud it’s valuable data they can sell on the dark web.”
She says the scammers might ask for small amounts of money upfront, which they claim will be reimbursed in a victim’s first pay cheque for what are genuine things – such as DBS checks, security checks, small bits of equipment – and that once a victim is invested, they can throw more good money after bad.
“The big amounts of money is where the payoff is in these scams,” she says.
“Obtaining bank and card details details… taking control of your computer or phone with the promise of helping victims to remote work – we’ve all done these things for legitimate reasons and scammers use the same scripts.”
Tackling fraud effectively requires “a whole-system response across government, law enforcement and industry”, says Temporary Commander Shaw.
“Every report we receive from the public helps build a stronger picture of the problem, enabling us not only to investigate fraud more effectively, but to take down the bank accounts, websites and phone numbers used by criminals.”
Bella’s bank has refused to refund her as a victim of fraud, although she is now challenging that decision with the Financial Ombudsman Service.
Meanwhile, she is working even more hours as a waitress to try to make up the money that was stolen, and says what’s happened has changed her as a person.
“It makes you feel very immature for this world, very quickly. It’s a big wake-up call.”
You can hear more on this story shortly after broadcast on Money Box.

Admin Update: So I'm Back.
Well I took a break because I thought there would only be Fellow Travelers stuff for months and then the strike broke and a ton more than I expected happened. Sorry .
So it's been a while hasn't it? This account is coming back in the next few days so I thought I'd do an update of sorts covering some main points. But first: here's an update of some actual content that came out.
Tumblr media
(yes. I had to do one with the puppy)
Fellow Travelers; the Press Tour and Backlog.
So I kinda decided after the end of Fellow Travelers (after sitting in silence at the credits) that all press tours/Stills that I post will be counted as a backlog if I haven't done them prior. As in. Between any appearances for when it picks back up (we all know it will because of the award season that I don't understand because as a gamer here. I know those dates not the TV ones outside of BAFTA 😅) in the New Year.
Other than that - normal programming resumes. Press Tour photos and other main events edited.
So Links - Did you see *that* Interview Clip?
I could just post the tweets over those days of "someone said Squadron 42 was mentioned and I guess because it's nearing completion finally"; to "wonder how we got onto Squad 42?"; to someone saying he mentioned "the Crystal Exarch"; to me basically being on cloud 9 - but I'll spare you the details. If you follow me elsewhere you've seen the reaction but all I can say is I wasn't expecting it and still don't believe it's real.
Yeah ..... So that happened. Was not expecting it at all, let alone during the FT Press Tour. For a 30 second mention it contained more than I would ever expect. I also was surprised he is aware of the fact people like the cat? And he finds the fact the game has "lore" interesting? And in general really enjoys the Vo work for games that interviewer was not expecting this; he just wanted information on Mark Hamil lol.
Yes. I am taking this as Dawntrails is when he is back as well until the next /final trailer comes out from Fanfest in Jan and the build up of the release in the summer and proves anything different 😌
(I'll reblog the interview on here as well because I kinda have to don't I?)
TLDR; lol yeah. I'm back to be a pain in the tag again. Enjoy :)

Cameron:
Has always had platonic female friends.
Has a pattern of being called "sweet" by both genders of coworkers and crew.
Ruby praised him as a person while dating him. They seemed friendly/she still seemed fond of him based on social media posts (during 2017) after their relationship ended.
Lauren's family and friends still follow Cameron and seem fine with him even though their relationship ended.
A pattern that does exist is him having trouble letting go or moving on or wanting to not completely sever interaction after a relationship ends. (his first/Sadie/Peyton) And that might have happened with Ruby too if there had been a bigger gap between Ruby and Peyton.
Peyton was commenting/liking on posts of Cameron's friends after she had broken up with him, which I thought was interesting only because of her dad's comments about Cameron posting a comment on her twin's Instagram about a year later.
I haven't completed looking into when or if that stopped at some point in 2019 and there might have been expectations of increased separation from each other's lives at that point if they had been struggling with some sort of on/off "dynamic."
A concern I had with Peyton and Cameron's age gap (19 and 23 when they started dating) was:
What changed?
Did how she dress change before or after? (did she start wearing less or more sheer stuff)
It didn't seem to change.
She didn't seem to increase or decrease travel or festival or party/red carpet attendance.
There are pictures of PDA with both Cameron and Jacob.
I considered if he was controlling of her time or who she spent time with.
There's no indication that she changed her friend group or who she spent time with other than also spending time with Cameron's friend group. No hint from Peyton that he attempted to isolate her from friends or acquaintances who had the impression that either their personalities or age differences made them mismatched. She said there was a mutual understanding and fineness with any time/distance/focus needed for work. Peyton remained friends/interacted with Emma and Liana and others who seemed to have no issues or changes with how they viewed or felt about Cameron.
Based on a podcast interview where she talked about the relationship I thought she hadn't traveled much at that point in her life and had been a bit dazzled by traveling to Europe with Cameron. She actually traveled quite a bit or with more variety than Cameron. She went to the UAE and Disneyland less than 6 months before they worked together and was traveling in Asia right after filming wrapped.
I had also assumed Peyton went with Cameron when they went around the holidays or that the trip was his idea since he often travels to Europe, but did find her mentioning wanting to go to Paris when they ended up going. It's possible this might have been something she would have done without him since they had just started dating at this point or was an idea they had talked about even though they had only been dating for about a month.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkQgqHuMXLg
Thanks for sending all this through and doing so much research. I think there’s a variety of reasons why women stay cool with Cameron after a breakup and a variety of reasons for why they don’t. I don’t think he’s a bad guy necessarily or even behaves in irredeemable ways. There hasn’t been one person to even publicly bash him for anything. (I might’ve read one account on Reddit that said he was rude when he went to a grocery store and didn’t respond when the cashier asked if he wanted a bag.)
I think we’d all like to see him in a good relationship someday and treat that person respectfully both publicly and in private. We’re holding out hope…🤞
