I've come to the realization that I have a specifc type when it comes to my anime crushes and that would be:

handsome dudes who are somewhat prodigies at their respective sports but for some reason (generally injury or life event) they're not the best in the country, but that's just fine because now they're role models and mentor figures to others, and they're very protective and nurturing; a tiny bit manipulative, but that's generally for a good cause (the greater good) and pretty cheeky, but you wouldn't guess because they hide it behind their kind smile and soft eyes

*many of these are subjective. Arguably Dazai is chaotic good. Arguably Mori belongs in the lawful evil spot. Compared to Makima though he really doesn’t seem that bad…does Saiki belong here?? Who knows, but he can be pretty damn manipulative and I needed someone to put there. Why are so many of these characters from BSD? Because I’m currently obsessed with it and also there are a LOT of manipulative characters in that media like damn.

**extra note about Shigure: I’m currently on season 1 of fruits basket, so I might be totally off-base here. He gives off some Rancid Vibes and I’m kinda hoping he gets to be a villain because that would be neat. And I needed someone to put there. It’ll be fun to look back on this post later.

A friend gifted me an acrylic Haiji X Nira she had commissioned and they are just the most adorable pair! (the true OTP <3 <3!) I usually have only "cutesy" SD arts for my acrylics, but I'm starting to see the appeal of having realistic-looking illustrations on acrylic stands, mm hmm! They pose really well with real scenery, don't they? Archiving two nice shots I did of them here for reasons (and imagining Haiji and Nira running through the sunflower patch going ahahahaha). Sport: he conpetes in the penguin version of the triathlon

Appearance: Small penguin

Propaganda: He's a nurse who's never done sport before but his little brother believes in him so hard that he has to try, he does a whole training montage. When he competes he gets mocked the whole time by the big arrogant fan favourite but when he has the chance to win the bully gets hurt and trapped underwater and his nurse instincts win out so Peso goes back to help him and they get joint first. Very sweet guy, very clumsy, very funny I love him

Propaganda: Wanting to participate in in Hakone Ekiden, a famous Japanese University relay marathon that has runners run 219 km over two days, Haiji spends his university years gathering a ten man team. Despite his injury from his school days and the fact that his team isn't the most athletic (yet), he doesn't give up! He works hard so that he and his team can qualify for Hakone Ekiden!

This sounds like..... a long meta but lemme see if I can summarize my thoughts: Imo, Fujioka and Haiji really parted HS on very awkward terms. Fujioka asked Haiji to come to Rikudo and (in the anime at least), Haiji rejected him. At this point, it would have been hard for Fujioka to stay in touch with Haiji, given there's a tacit understanding that Haiji didn't want to go to Rikudo together with him because of his condition, and that it would be impossible for them to go back to the way they were before the injury... for Fujioka, there could even be this feeling that his presence might become a source of distress/reminder for Haiji, and Haiji might not welcome his friendship after this, so I feel it would be hard for him to initiate the first move at reconnecting unless Haiji gave him the OK. Haiji also, would not know how to stay in touch with Fujioka, because my hc is they started out as equals, but Fujioka had gone on ahead without him, becoming the ace of Rikudo and all that, and Haiji may have had trouble managing his own feelings, the feeling that he can't be happy for his friend without feeling sorry for himself. And until he could resolve that feeling and gain his personal self-worth and confidence back, it would be hard for him to talk to Fujioka as an equal again. That's how their friendship went quiet and drifted apart a bit. But to say they have stopped caring about each other entirely would be wrong too, I feel. Imo they cared enough that when they bumped into each other at the running track, they just kind of lit up seeing each other again (excuse me but MY HEART). It's just that circumstances have made it hard for them to connect the same way they used to, so they just have to let it be.
