Whenever someone give me a little handwritten note or a letter, I keep it in my wallet or between the pages of my favourite books forever.

Who would've thought it'd be holding your hand where I'd lose my footing? After all we'd been moving in tandem half our lives. The question plaguing me is not the why or the how, it's the when. When did we lose sight of each other? When did the ache of missing you turn into relief inspired by your absence? Perhaps when you started seeing my wins as your losses. Perhaps when you wanted to be heard to be so bad, you forgot to listen. Our story has two sides, I know. I turned into a ghost for you. An empty casket haunted by memories that'd lost their shine long ago. I no longer wanted to talk about the sunlit past, glorified treasures of time that felt bigger for you each day because nothing came after. I no longer wanted to pretend we had a future together going forward. We didn't. We don't. I knew, you knew, but we didn't voice it. We couldn't. Things like this happened to other people, not to us. Ugly truths are hard to admit, but how ugly are they really when they feel like the first breath of fresh air in a year? I'll say it: I miss the times we lived through together, but I don't miss who I was with you. I'm doing better now. I'm doing better than I ever was and that's what you can't stand. And this is why we can never go back to what we once were.

Opal is my halfling cleric! A few sessions ago she died, was revived with a necromantic clockwork heart, her old deity no longer remembered her, and Asmodeus reached out to make a deal... She used to be twilight domain, and now she knows a lot more than she'd like.

lowkey the writers insisting on intertwining alicent and rhaenyra + hotd 'being a story abt them' is probably like,,, the source of over half their problems

#aging alicent down was a mistake and it shows #no it doesn't make sense for alicent to suddenly abandon her children to go see rhaenyra #it doesn't make sense for rhaenyra to go see alicent in king's landing or seemingly want peace bc alicent is on the other side #'but they were friends as kids' and friends grow apart. which rhaenyra and alicent clearly did. so what now #alicent has given rhaenyra zero reasons to care for her or her wellbeing. from never shutting the fuck up abt her children possibly being #bastards to purposefully sowing discord between their children to pretending peace is possible after usurping her throne and killing her so #like that one council member who was like 'ofc she hasn't answered your letters. her son is dead' had the most common sense #and whatever you feel abt the incident where aemond's eye was cut out. you can't deny the biggest contribution to it happening was #bc alicent told her children that rhaenyra would have them killed when she got to the throne. and hamered this point in by hitting aegon #and frankly i don't really think alicent cared abt rhaenyra during the timeskip either. why would she suddenly care what rhaenyra thought o #her. if she's such a threat to her kids why would she want her around or want peace with her #if alicent truly wanted peace jace and helaena marrying was enough but she chose to not let it happen so why would she care abt peace NOW #the show's reducing them to passive victims of men with zero agency when their book selves would be taking charge #rhaenyra would cut off her council's tongues for the way they've spoken to her in the past few eps #the writing is making them both look like idiots and the show is suffering severely bc of it #and being like 'well they're gay and stupid' 'they're in love and that's why they make stupid choices' yall only say that to cope #a stupid writing choice is a stupid writing choice no matter how you try to frame it #hotd #house of the dragon #anti hotd

Anyway I call this one Jem and Bett Ruin Nigel's Life (Ten Years Ahead of Schedule)

#the shuttle #jessica's random thoughts #it's in my head as kind of this reluctant-allies dynamic #Betty thinks he's is a snob #he thinks she's a spoiled brat #but they both think Nigel needs to be taken down a peg or two #and so they team up to get in touch with her father without Nigel reading Betty's letters #and maybe Betty snoops around to find records of where the money Nigel is getting from the Vanderpoels is ACTUALLY going #or something #anyway the point is that Nigel gets taken down by a couple of kids #BUT they never actually get along with each other #and then rosy goes back to the vanderpoels in new york so there's no reason for Betty to be in england #so they don't see each other again #and then years later Nigel dies of being a jerk or something #and Betty goes with Rosy and Ughtred back to Stornham to help fix it up and make things better #and meets saltyre (now mount dunstan) and they still have the same falling-in-love-but-not-admitting-it thing as in the book #but there's also the comedic backstory of being reluctant allies against her evil brother in law #you've heard of childhood friends to lovers now get ready for childhood enemies to lovers #and when they meet on the boat during the accident Betty thinks he's vaguely familiar #and then when she sees him in the park she realizes OH HEY IT'S JEM!#and he's like *awkward pause* '....hi?'#and then everyone in the neighborhood is like ''Oh that's mount Dunstan. he's a bad lot.''#and Betty is like ''lol no?? like yeah he's grumpy a lot but we worked against the forces of evil together as children #so I can guarantee that he's very much not a jerk like the rest of his family was.''#and everyone's like ''okaaaay then?''#idk I just think it would be funny

and a young noblewoman who’s the shame of her family because of her mixed heritage and desire to use magic

both are manipulated by those with more power than them into a plot to free an ancient evil god

#The Sun and The Void #aroaessidhe 2023 reads #hm. haha. surface level this is kinda interesting and cool but i am going to follow with so many complaints #though I feel like it didn’t go into the magic or worldbuilding as much as I wanted and it felt irrelevant to the characters #like how does the magic even work? idk man #though I feel like it didn’t go into it as much as I wanted and it felt irrelevant to the characters #very slow to start and the pacing is weird. it would also go ages without having the other POV. very disjointed?#it felt like the first 60% was just context for the group of characters getting together as a group and then it was a bit predisposed with #They’re A Group! even tho. they're barely a group for long #the authors note mentions that the story concept started with a line about the god and ritual and…..yeah I can kind of tell #I feel like everything was built up around it in a way that ultimately that part didn’t fit right #I never bought that any of them were actually like fully committed to the evil dark magic? and also there’s this plot twist #that they have to fully kill the sacrifices & I was like…did we not already know that? girl r you stupid what do you think sacrifice means #also #oh my god at like half way one of the MCs is like. oh finally this guy who I’ve been exchanging letters with for months turned up to get me #away from here! by the way I’ve been exchanging letters with this guy and we’re friends! and like. she’d been doing nothing much for the #last 10% of the book why was that not like….shown as something she was doing? and like build up the friendship for the reader instead of #just dropping it on us - and also that we know the character from the other POV. and hes a racist prick. and we're supposed to believe she'#charmed by him because of this letter writing WE DIDN’T SEE….. why.#and then also that is like. he’s a shitbag and it’s obviously not romantic at all. he’s manipulative and terrible to her #EXCEPT at the end it implies his bad behaviour is because demon and oh uwu he gets all beat up and maybe hes sowwy now #and starts to imply she likes and is attracted to him? and I get the impression the next book is gonna be like evil power couple dynamic?#which. feels like the first concept the author had; and then tried to build up to that but not effectively lmao #for the lesbians:#I DO APPRECIATE having an assumed love interest then realising that that was idealised and actually you have feelings #for this other person you’ve become friends with! nice slow switch up. though quite brief #I do however dislike that when she admitted her feelings to the first LI and she rejected her it was still framed as the other’s fault #for not reciprocating the feelings….worst trope….also like. it kind of conflated her not feeling that way to her having a bit of class disc #which. yikes? oh my god stop villainising people for not reciprocating romantic feelings (ALSO they turn out to be related anyway 🤪)#i just feel like the romance switchover could have been done with more nuance and complexity
