#my art #realism #self portrait #assignment #illustration #this one is about 16 inches tall #i had like. a faint gesture outline done this morning and that was all i had for the past several weeks #and then i just jumped in today and got it all done in about an hour #idk. i feel like ive been pretty caught up on my schoolwork not looking like how my classmates does #and i kept trying to imitate them— the stuff that the teachers were all giving accolades to #and ive realised that its kind of dumb to compare myself (comicmaker and cartoonist) to them (sculptors and painters)#so im just doing shit my own way. and ngl the teacher seems to like that more as well

I've been taking it a bit slower with art for the past week ... basically I realized I hit some sort of bump with my art, where I was continuously unhappy with most stuff I made, and I had to struggle through countless redraws to get to something I like. Basically, even simple things were taking like 4x the time they should've.

I've tried to do sort of a "reboot" on my brain and avoided drawing for about a week - even that Val ref I posted was something I started a few weeks back and only pulled it together over the past few days. I've also colored some stuff because in my brain coloring just doesn't really trigger the same kind of frustration as sketching and inking and construction in general do. I haven't really tried drawing anything from a scratch yet, and honestly I'm a bit worried.

#ramblings #upside is that ive caught up on non-art related schoolwork #and read a lot of comics #so im actually sort of inspired #but i dont really know how to deal with getting my actual art style up to the standard

#adhd hell brain trying to do schoolwork at the last minute #this is so stupid because technically I'm ''studying''#but actually I get GRADED on this stupid REVIEW SHEET based on how detailed it is #which isn't how I study at all but whatever #straight up just feels like the stupid busy work they gave me in high school #that used to take me like 6 hours because it was so boring I couldn't focus on it #and college courses basically never make you do stupid shit like that but this professor is built different <3 #honestly with the state MY fucking brain is in right now I'd probably just try my luck with the test #maybe just study a few of the things I'm less sure about because that's all I've got the mana for #I got fucking MARKED DOWN for my LAST study guide for ''not being detailed enough''#like what do you want from me? this is how I study and I got a 92% so CLEARLY it works for me #also not for nothing the specific part I got marked down for was the material we covered in the class I had to miss #because I caught covid IN HER CLASS #and I'd emailed her to ask what I should do to catch up on that material #because she deliberately doesn't put the information from lectures on her slides #and she didn't answer me until AFTER we'd already taken the exam for that material #also not for nothing (again) but I'm pretty sure SHE also caught covid because she was coughing for like two weeks #around the time there was a known exposure in our class #and not only did she continue doing class in person #she didn't even wear a fucking mask!!

I'm sorry I'm such a slacker for updates on my fics. This month has been a tough one and I swear my creative energy has like died. But I'm hoping since the next few days I don't have to be up early and don't have much going on in serious due dates that I'll be able to get something out
