I'm not usually one for autism hc's but ykw movie shadow is VERY autistic/neurotypical coded imo. I think it's the "beware the alien freak" that does it for me thematically. He struggles to relate to people, so the people who he can relate to and who care about are SUPER valuable to him, because it feels like there is something wrong with him. People look at him like there is something wrong with him, or something bad and different. Like idk I feel like a lot of media I've seen doesn't address THAT aspect. Behaviours in representation is one thing, but experience is another, and the experience aspect is really important to me, which is why I see it more with Shadow. Before I first had it brought up that I might be autistic, I FELT like the "alien freak", and to other people who have felt that way, I think knowing you can be loved and seeing people like you is important. Also revenge Guac.

again i don't know if i have ocd of any variety but i am aware that i do tend to say a bunch of stuff compulsively. where i'd do/say something and preemptively apologize for it just because i can envision somebody getting mad at me for it... and Apparently apologizing for something before anyone even gets mad about it prevents them from getting mad altogether (me when i lie?)

tbh i think the coldest and most shocking thing that can happen in an argument with this man is if you call him "john" and he corrects you to "constantine". biggest red flag you can find on the play. sounds pretentious when you're not experiencing it. means he's absolutely fucking furious with you.
#like here's the thing: he's not going to correct you if he doesn't know you or like you. he won't give anyone that power over him#he won't ever let some random jackass know they've gotten under his skin. it's just not worth the effort to him.#so if he's correcting you? it means you know him on a personal level. it means you're at Bare Minimum good friends#and it means he's so fucking angry that he's rescinding your place in his life until the argument is resolved. the castle gates are closed#you are now on professional speaking terms until this is resolved and the professional constantine is a real nasty piece of work#who will not spare your feelings or try to salvage whatever you've built with him. professional constantine wants the job Done#i've talked before about how little effort his father put into naming him after his mum died and how unemotional john's been about it since#and how unique it must feel when someone says 'john' to him with love or care or compassion after a lifetime of hearing it in anything but#like his first name doesn't usually mean a lot to him! its use is not a closely guarded privilege!#but if he cares about you then calling him 'john' can feel as intimate to him as a kiss#and if you burn him he will snatch that level of access away from you for Months. sometimes Years.#so! yeah!! if he ever corrects your name choice in an argument then you've Really Fucked Up Buddy!!!!#( also. hypocrite that he is. if you're on 'john' terms and you call him 'constantine' in an argument FIRST he will be absolutely WOUNDED )#( and he will cover with that professional veneer. that cold uncaring mask of anger. but it's trapped-cornered-animal anger )#( it's let-me-cover-this-injury-before-you-can-really-get-your-fingers-in-it defensiveness. and he will be cautiously distant afterwards )#( headcanons. ) I'M JUST LIKE THE BASTARDS I'VE HATED ALL ME LIFE.

Bit sad I have to wait just a bit longer until we can restart filming, but it'll be worth it to include our new replacement actor.
I've been thinking, maybe I should even let her design her own costume, wouldn't want those designing skills to go to complete waste!

It definitely varies widely but check your local library events page, and if your Library district doesn't have anything cool check the next nearest one that you can get to, you don't have to be a library card holder to go to a event at a library for free
like man doesn’t it fucking suck that there’s not really any public space. that you can’t go anywhere without spending money on food or transportation, that unless you wanna sit on a mall bench all day or browse library shelves you basically can’t do anything in public? even standing in front of a building without paying for something (“loitering”) is illegal. everything is built to punish homeless people which means if you ever want to sit down or rest or exist in public every building and park bench and windowsill is telling you to kill yourself instead. maybe that has something to do with the unpleasantness of online spaces, where everyone is shoved together into a giant digital chamber because it’s the only “public square” still available while also being isolated and alone in their room on their phone because everything sucks and a global pandemic is still happening. like Im just saying I think that has more to do with how annoying people are on the internet than like mcu fanfiction

i remember reading some of the shit dirk said in hs namely right after they ascended and how he saw himself and the people around him and how aware of it all he was ("people think i'm above them but in truth i only have deep respect for them, while i am only horrible and i hate myself because i wish i could be what others need me to be but i can't because i'm me"), and i remember how at the time, and on some level still to this day, i completely connected with that and it really made me feel understood. like on some level something was able to put my thoughts and feelings into something that made sense, and presented it back to me which was very important for me at the time. and i did feel weird about that being something that i connected with, like that was a dumb thing or a thing no one should do because the character is weird or bad in some way.
and then i saw the fanbase and realized. oh i'm actually Normal about this guy, unlike everyone else i've seen since.

sawyer sisters loreposting part 4: charity (lacey)
Part of my character notes for my TCM AU.
Other posts:
Patience
Chastity
Temperance
Finally, the one and only: Miss Leatherface-Featherlace-Leather-and-Lace...but you can just call her Lacey. Youngest sibling, anxious people-pleaser, accomplished seamstress, craftswoman, homemaker, and efficient killer. Death/The Queen of Cups, reversed.
Full name: Charity Theresa Sawyer, the first of her sisters not to be named directly after a relative (the older three were all named to honor ancestors, but surprisingly there weren't as many Charities in the family.) The nicknames came later.
Born: May 18, 1948
Notes:
The youngest, but at the same time feels like the overlooked middle child and the beleaguered eldest daughter and everyone’s baby sister all at once. It’s a lot on one girl’s shoulders, but she manages.
Patience was the one who told her the whole truth about the circumstances of her birth, after their mother’s passing. This might have been a mistake; there was a reason their mother didn’t like to talk about it. Patience thought it was important for her to know, but thought afterwards that maybe her youngest sister didn’t understand. She did, but she still wondered how true it was that her mother really did want her.
Her mother noticed she wasn’t talking when she was at the age most children would have started, but at first figured it was because the twins were around to speak for her. By the time they were school-aged, though, she still wasn’t, and Homily decided it was best for Charity to stay home along with Temperance.
Her family quickly got used to her own ways of communicating, and the twins would even insist she did talk, just so softly and quickly that it was hard to understand her if you weren’t listening carefully. Patience would counter that it just felt that way because they lived with her, and besides, they were probably making up what they thought she was saying half the time anyway.
Her mother was always very patient with and attentive to her, and tried her best to make things easy for her. She had heard that children born to mothers later in life often had “problems”, and she didn’t ever want to neglect any of her girls or write them off as “slow” or stupid or worse, the way other kids like that might be. But she couldn’t be around all the time, and her sisters were less, well, patient.
(She was probably hit the hardest by their mother’s death, despite or especially because of her being the youngest when it happened. Everyone always said little Charity was the one who took after her the most. Patience would never be an adequate substitute as a caretaker, and even when their grandmother was more present, physically and mentally, she was also more of a harsh disciplinarian than Homily had ever been.)
She loves her family, all of them; the twins were her best friends growing up and the three of them stayed close, even if she finds them a little exhausting sometimes, and they do bother her the way siblings do. Patience, though, is frustratingly difficult for her to connect with, and she’s spent more of her life being scared of her than bonding with her as her sister.
Despite this, Patience does really believe in her and will defend her from anyone outside the family who underestimates or dismisses or is at all mean to her. Lacey just doesn’t know about most of these instances, since they happen outside their home and she doesn’t get out much.
Patience helped her get her first actual job, working alongside Temperance at the slaughterhouse knocking cattle in the head. Her sisters vouched for her that it was a job she could do and in fact do it well, as if she’d inherited their grandmother’s skill. She’s honestly always been pretty unsentimental about it; she’s not sadistic with animals, but she has accepted that some of them are raised for meat and they will be killed, and someone has to be the one to do it.
In fact, she’s very practical about the act of killing in general. It’s just something that her family does. Since it’s generally for the same purpose, she doesn’t see the humans she kills as much different from the livestock. Some of them are just destined to become meat. She doesn’t particularly enjoy killing people any more than you would any mundane task.
This attitude makes her an efficient contributor to the household, but since it’s her primary response to any unfamiliar person being in the house (which cannot happen, because there is a lot of incriminating evidence in that house), Patience doesn’t like her to be left alone. They can’t have too many mysterious disappearances on their hands, especially not of people who live close by, and you really can’t trust that no one would be dumb enough to walk right into a stranger’s house when nobody answers the door. And Temperance never remembers to lock the damn door.
She lost her job in the last round of layoffs in their town, with the plants claiming they were catching up to the times with regards to automation in the industry. At one point all four sisters had been contributing to the household, and now suddenly half of them weren’t, and Chastity was already talking about moving out. She was aware of all this even if Patience thought she wasn’t.
She always liked to wear some kind of covering over her face to minimize the sensory issues that came with being out in the heat and dust and dry winds where they lived, and the smells and anything that might be in the air at her job. Patience was wary about letting her do so in public and drawing the inevitable stares, but she conceded it might seem reasonable to tie a cloth around the bottom half of your face at work. The full masks came later.
It was something to do with identity, yes. She did feel sometimes like she had to become a different person when she went out with Patience to the store, or when she went to work, or even when she was hanging out with her sisters, than when she was alone. And who was she when she was alone, anyway?
The dinner guests interested her, sometimes, when they made it impossible to ignore that they were people, from different places, and they had their own lives and friends and families and jobs and hobbies and all sorts of things about them that made them unique, and often just so different from the people she knew and the place she lived. It was interesting to go through the things they left behind and sort of get a sense of who they were from that.
When she lost her job that was another part of her identity that was now gone and she didn’t know what to do with the space that left. So the first time they had a guest over after that, she decided to take their face. She had heard before that the reason people didn’t seem to want to talk to her – or even really see her as a person at all – when she was in public was because she didn’t look like she had one. A face, that is.
She picked up sewing fairly easily when her mother taught her, showing her the various household tasks she did at home so Charity could help out, because she did want to. She watched her mother mend clothes and make new ones and it was one of the tasks she took over after her mother’s death. Working with this material was different and a lot harder, but she figured it out eventually. She had a lot more time on her hands now.
The twins thought it was cool, especially Temperance, since this was her kind of art project. Patience did not at first, but soon realized it wasn’t as if her youngest sister was going out at all these days. She worried, still, a little, about what it meant that she was letting her do this. As if they were all giving up on even pretending to be normal now.
Temperance was the first to call her by that nickname. It got shortened to Lacey not long afterwards, probably by Chastity, and pretty soon that’s all they were calling her. Patience is the only one who still calls her Charity.
She actually hasn’t heard any jokes about her name. Based on this, it seems to be objectively the best of the traditional virtue names to have, so naturally she’s the only one of her sisters who doesn’t go by her “real” name on a regular basis.
She doesn’t think very often about the prospect of leaving home; it’s never really been an option for her the way it has been slightly more plausible for her sisters. Occasionally she allows herself to contemplate what a life outside of this might look like for her. It’s not that easy – this is all she’s ever known.
She rarely sees their dinner guests as people, and in turn they don’t seem to acknowledge her as a person very often either; when someone is that focused on killing you and nothing else, it’s hard to think of them as a human who can be reasoned with. That made it especially shocking for her the first time she had someone cornered and they looked into her eyes and spoke directly to her. It was a voice she’d heard before on the radio – maybe that helped.
If she had to think about it, she’d say she’s interested in both men and women, or anyone who might be nice to have a relationship with regardless of gender, but that definitely isn’t something she’s thought about much in her life (again, never seemed like much of an option for her.) It’s hard to imagine that kind of thing for herself, the kind of person who might want to be with her while also being totally outside of the family. Even in a purely platonic way.
It’s not that she’s happy living with her sisters and no one else, and never leaving the house, and making the killing of human beings her main talent. But it’s certainly safer for her to live this way, and she doesn’t know what she’d do if something were to happen to seriously destabilize their situation.

It's bizarre how a quasi-denialist stance on COVID is becoming the accepted one in mainstream discourse, like, questioning masks and lockdowns and asking Questions about lab leak theory as the Enlightened stance. There are more mainstream stories insisting we must take lab leak seriously and treat it as if it's basically true, even though we not only haven't turned up any more evidence for it since 2020, we've turned up more evidence that it came from animals at one specific market in Wuhan. There was a piece claiming to turn up evidence, and the evidence was...that some scientists privately mentioned it as a possibility in emails early on. It's not even partisan anymore bc I've seen liberal and leftist publications & influencers all say we need to ask Questions and insist that masks and lockdowns didn't work, or at least made people angry, and thus we shouldn't have done them
The weirdest part, though, is that most of these Reflections just...write out Donald Trump and anti-vaxxers? They talk about "scientists" giving mixed messages and about the CDC, but some of them straight up don't mention Trump, and like. I feel like if you're talking about confusing messaging about COVID, the entire response being headed by a deranged anti-vaxxer who said whatever came to his mind about how horse medicine would cure it would be a major factor to address, but apparently not! It's just public health officials who dropped the ball. Hell, it almost feels like people have started to misremember COVID to think Biden was President during the lockdowns, just another step in the strange memory holing of Trump's first term
(They mess up the basic history of events that happened five years ago, too, like how a lot of these takes talk about how "confusing" it was that they went from "masks are for medical professionals and the most at risk" to "masks for everyone"...without mentioning that wasn't a random choice, but down to a shortage of masks early in the pandemic. Literally nothing was the result of outside factors or the government, all of it was just scientists confusing us for no reason)

To me, Simon has the dumbest hair 90% of the time because he just buzzes it himself (I cannot believe that man pays money to one, do something he could theoretically do himself, and two, spend time with a stranger). The other 10% it's good -- when he first cuts it, an eighth of an inch of pale fuzz left behind, and when it just starts growing out, that's fine. But a lot of the time, especially when he's at home, he just lets it go.
And you, his next door neighbor, will never not give him shit about it.
"You look so goofy," you tell him when you see him in the hallway, one arm holding your groceries and the other fiddling with your keys. "Just cut it, Jesus Christ."
He rolls his eyes or tells you to fuck off, because you've known each other long enough for that kind of thing. He's lived in the building for years, never having seen a reason to leave, and you've been there for a few yourself. You're friends in the way that you may not call or text or schedule time to hang out, but you can scarcely think of anyone you see more often.
"Seriously," you go on, unlocking your door and speaking louder so he can hear you when you go inside. "It's just like two inches sticking straight off your head, why are you walking around like that?"
"Doesn't bother me," Simon answers, moving to lean against your doorframe and watch you as you put up your things. "Seems to bother you an awful lot though."
Your back is to him while you move around your kitchen, but you can tell he's smirking, and you scoff.
"Yeah, it bothers me. You get a face like that and you go and screw it up with the dumbest excuse for a haircut I've ever seen."
It's not the first time you've flirted with him, or even the most direct time, but it still gives him pause. He doesn't wear his mask when he's not working, most of the time anyway, because he thinks it draws too much attention and he'd prefer to just slip into the shadows wherever he goes. But you seeing him, and you letting him know that you like what you see, it does something to him, every time.
"You cut it then," he says.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. You're the one so torn up about it, you fix it."
You snort, finally turning back to him, saying, "I'm not a barber, stupid."
"No, you sure seem like a coward though."
A few minutes later, you're both in Simon's bathroom. He's got his shirt off, straddling the toilet so you can reach his head, and you're behind him with clippers in your hand, looking down at him. You've never seen this much of him, never even seen the place where his tattoos stop on his arm, and it's a lot to take in.
You want to take your time, commit every scar, every freckle to memory, but he turns his head, smirking again.
"Told you you were a coward."
Without a word, you turn on the clippers and get to work.
It's not hard, it's just a buzzcut. The hard part is in touching his ears, gently pushing the lobes down to trim around them. It's in sneaking glances over his shoulder to watch his chest as it rises and falls while you work. In trying not to notice the tiniest little hitch in his breath when you lean in closer and rest your hand on his back while you get the hairs on the back of his neck.
The worst part though, is the beauty mark that sits perfectly in the place where his neck meets his shoulder. Specifically, the worst part is the strong, almost uncontrollable urge to bite it.
When you're done, you turn off the clippers and set them on his bathroom counter, then dust off his shoulders for him. Just before he stands, you can't deny yourself any longer -- you won't be able to reach it when he's not sitting so perfectly like this -- and give a quick, soft kiss to the mark.
During all the time you've known Simon, he's barely responded to your flirting. To you, he doesn't seem interested, and to him, you don't seem serious. But a kiss, faint as it may have been, is different, and before you can register it, he's on his feet, turned and standing over you.
"Hair looks better," you say softly.
He grunts in response, and before you know it, his mouth is covering yours, hot and insistent. It's a heady feeling, having him so close, and before you can get used to it, his hands are on you, first on your waist, then on your hips, then on the backs of your thighs as he lifts you up and holds you against him.
He maneuvers you both out of the bathroom and towards his bedroom, where he unceremoniously tosses you on his bed. You look up at him, letting your eyes trail freely over his body now, going down when you see him place his hands on his belt.
"Not so mouthy now, are you?"
