pixel I'm obsessed with that tell me more
"Swing Me By The Rafters" was a late contribution to Folie that was born because they weren't happy with one of the other songs they were working on and Pete wrote most of the core of the lyrics in response to how tense the recording for those past few sessions was going, with Patrick so frustrated that they scrapped the previous one, and boy does it show. ofc there's also some kintsugi-ed lyrics from other bits and pieces of Pete poetry written at the time which like, makes things worse and darker.
the part with the whole thing about the lyrical you gripping Pete by the throat till he's got no breath left and leaving him hanging (it's one of those wentz double layered lyrics so that stuck to me but I can't find the full exact lyrics, too deep cut for genius dot com) should have been added to the "wear me like a locket around your throat"/"make me like a charm on your necklace" trilogy imo
The thing about Andy contributing to the writing of the piano bits was andy messing around with the piano while Patrick was stressing out bc a part just wasn't coming together and it just clicked with that, one of those "wait, play that again?" moments, so it's not like andy showed up with a fully written part. Though he does play a bit of piano see here.
And like bc Patrick was so frustrated he put that energy of I Don't Care into it, and treads a bit into the energy that the more aggressive tracks of Soul Punk have. Which is to say: he went FULL CUNTY.
There was a recording of it but the website it was at is defunct so afaik now it's lost media like the oregon trail fall out boy thing, but i don't expect it to show up on spotify even if pavlove and lullabye ever fully make it.

Kaa and Patrick Stump - a fic
Tumblr media
note: this fic contains hypnosis, suggestive content, and my favorite snake!
The year is 2007, Fall Out Boy are in the jungle, alongside an extensive camera crew, they were doing a photoshoot to promote their new album, Infinity On High.
The band wondered why they had to fly all the way to india for the photoshoot, they thought it'd be a bit expensive, but Island Records insisted, so they complied.
The next shoot was in only an hour, Pete was in the RV, Joe & Andy were getting lunch, and Patrick was out sightseeing. He was a little nervous, he thought a tiger could come and attack him any minute while hes alone, but the jungle was quiet, a little too quiet.
He couldn't hear the chatter of the people at the photoshoot, just the sound of leaves rustling in the breeze. It felt almost calming for the singer, he sat down under a tree and closed his eyes, forgetting he wasn't just in a local forest.
As he thought, daydreaming of performing in front of thousands, getting to hang out with his bandmates, and maybe telling Pete some secrets, he felt something curl around his legs and waist, elevating him off the ground.
This was no small feat, whatever did this must have been very strong. Patrick opened his eyes and saw the sky around him, he was on a strong branch of the tree he was just on. When he turned around he saw something unreal.
"Hello, Mr. Ssssstump, wasss it?"
Patrick knew that voice! That was the snake from that one Disney movie, The Jungle Book! That's Kaa!
"Kaa! You're real!" Patrick exclaimed, "A-and how do you know who I am?!"
Kaa responded sarcastically, "How do you know who I am?" he chuckled, "word ssssspreadssssss when you eavesssssdrop."
Patrick knew what to expect, covering his eyes with his hands, "You're not gonna eat me! Please don't eat me! Go away!" He called out in fear.
"Who ssssaid anything about eating you?" Kaa asked, "though you would make for good desssssert!" the tip of his tail poking at the musician's belly, making him blush in embarrassment.
Patrick looked around, nervous, "PETE! JOE! ANDY! HELP!" he shouted out, hoping someone would hear him, but the moment he turned back around, he was face-to-face with that snake again, who's eyes displayed the hypnotizing green, yellow, and blue spiral rings. Wow he's going right in, Patrick thought in his last conscious thoughts before everything faded.
What was happening? Where is he? He lost awareness, but followed Kaa, who's tail had already begun curling around his waist, pinning his arms. As his tail coiled further around his body, the singer's state of mind blurred further and further until nothing was left but bliss.
Patrick didn't care as the snake began to wrap around his chest, he just happily smiled as he was further ensnared, not making any reaction aside from a small gulp as Kaa wrapped around his neck, giving him a gentle squeeze.
Kaa enjoyed this beautiful catch, lifting the man's hat off, letting it fall to the ground, and stroking his hair with the tip of his tail as the gorgeous singer drifted off into slumber.
I can't just eat him now, Kaa thought, I would love to have his bandmates first.
So, as the sun began to set, Kaa snuggled up with Patrick, resting with him. Meanwhile, the photography crew questioned the sudden disappearance of Patrick Stump, the photoshoot started 10 hours ago, where is he? A search party went out to look for him, but his bandmates went searching themselves.
Pete Wentz walked through the jungle, "Patrick? Hello?" he called, "'trick, where are you? We've been looking for you? Did you get eaten? Are you alive?" He looked down and saw Patrick's hat just on the ground, under a tree. He looked up, but saw nothing but the canopy, Pete decided to rest here, knowing his best bud was definitely near, unaware that that meant he was bundled up in snake coils while deeply entranced.

Oh! I would know about the Pete Wentz thing, it's like you mentioned mainly the coincidence with the Miss Missing You thing, and other minor coincidences like other songs that people wanted getting played at their shows, and the timing of the post hiatus songs after the hate on twitter/influx of love on tumblr about them. Overlapping with Pete historically having been quite fannish and looking things up about the band, and his previous presence on tumblr, as well as previous jokes about the falloutboy tumblr being run by him/him having access to it (like "we have a face to playfully blame when the falloutboy intern does something unexpected" to "this multi platinum band could afford an intern but their lyricist loves social media too much and and went 'i got this.'").
That has a lot of people speculating to what extent fall out boy and particularly Pete are keeping tabs on the fandom-sphere on here, and because the 8 ball songs are kept hush hush it's led to "8 ball coincidences go directly through these 4 and practically nobody else, so it's one of them looking and sometimes deciding with that into consideration, probably pete because he's the fannish charismatic pr dude among them"
Specifically the Pete Wentz has a lurking account/IS the falloutboy intern is definitely widely a joke, it's the allure of the "what if..." combined with being directly seen and the general chaos (positive) of the tour and how we're liveblogging it. Mayybe it's teethering towards unfiction, but less so in the "oh those posts should be tagged unreality they are describing things as if they are truly 100% happening" but in the "it would be funny if this was the situation" way. (Or at least that's my perception of it when comparing and contrasting with the actual unfiction improv game we have going on at the same time with the fake song.)
Hello anon I am in love with you (platonic), you wrote so much for me thank you <3<3 I have realized that I may have been having a bit of a neurodivergent(tm) moment and just fully missed the joke lmaooo. I love 8ball conspiracy theories though!! personally I think we should all subscribe to the idea that it's Andy that's actually causing all of this tbh.... you'd never expect it of him.... and yet...

GREENIEEEE I actually REALLY wanna hear your thoughts on why folie a deux is objectively the best fall out boy album LIKE I AGREE but i wanna see what u have to say about it!!!!!
ohhhhhh man!!!!! okay! you asked for this! get ready! under the cut we go:
a bit of historical context: a lot of younger fans approaching this album nearly 15 years post release do not understand how badly it bombed. it was originally going to be released on election day 2008, but they pushed it back a month due to the historical significance of this particular election (imo, rightfully so). it was panned critically. the band went on hiatus two months after its release.
with the bulk of their discography currently (we have five grouped releases after this album, three albums and two eps, plus a number of collaborations and singles), it's easy to see where folie a deux came from. however, many casual listeners saw it as an extreme diversion from even the album beforehand, which in many people's eyes had expanded upon themes of their smash hit success from under the cork tree while, largely, staying safe. i do think a lot of people who have this opinion stopped listening to the album after "thnks fr th mmrs" but that's just me being a purist bitch about it all. moving onward.
folie a deux is brilliant because of the risk factor involved, lyrically and musically. this was wentz's first go at writing songs from a fictional perspective, which threw people. where's the personal anguish? where's the tumult? but he was (at the time) happily married and his wife was pregnant with their first child during the production period of this album, . so pete drew from his influences -- the beat movement, camus, sartre, his heavy involvement in local politics and the leftist hardcore scene prior to making it with the pop punk concept. shrew businessman, first and foremost. son of two lawyers.
(oh yeah, did y'all know he was one semester shy of graduating with a political science degree from depaul university before dropping out to pursue music full time? and that the only reason he exists is because his parents met while campaigning for joe biden's 1972 senatorial campaign? thanks joe biden for inventing pop punk.)
this pivot from vulnerability caused a kneejerk reaction in a lot of people who heavily related to the raw emotion of pete's prior lyricism, but i think it actually allowed him to be more open and honest about what he was going through in his personal life. by masking the alienation he felt, an emotional, sensitive boy ripped from a chicago suburb and suddenly a man whose foibles appeared in gossip rags daily -- and i mean daily, they were fucking HUGE in the mid aughts -- in fiction, he could actually discuss what we learned later was plaguing him. regret. addiction. depersonalization. a madness shared by two, but it's not pete and one singular person -- it's pete and his audience, this cult of people he accumulated who did not actually know him at all. a lot of the fanbases favorite lyrics, and indeed lyrics that have stood the test of time, are from this period of relative freedom for wentz.
on the music side of things, patrick (as well as joe and andy, but they were less involved in the process at the time -- which is a big factor that led to their initial split!) used this as an opportunity to explore his weirdest musical impulses. as evidenced by his solo work, patrick is not necessarily a punk/hardcore guy first -- his instincts are rooted in music genres that are largely dominated by Black artists, such as soul, r&b, and hip hop. he's truly a musician's musician, and with the money that came from their initial successes, he nabbed whoever the fuck he could. blondie, who makes west coast smoker a verified classic b-side? fuck yes. elvis costello, his hero who he named a son after eventually (declan, not elvis, he's not that cruel)? bring it. lil wayne, in what remains the greatest fob guest spot of all time, bar none? hell yeah, and it's going to be the only cameo anyone talks about.
folie a deux, aside from being a bold, beautiful piece of art, is an album that means a lot to me personally. i skipped half a school day my senior year of high school to test a shitty nokia phone for a chance at two free tickets to the record release show for folie a deux. and as i stood in the crowd, hearing songs they'd never played before for the first time to a crowd who didn't know what to make of it, i knew this was going to be special. and it was.

Hi. It's really late where I'm at(it's one of Europe's capital cities, hence all the mistakes that's going to happen) and I just finished reading your essay on Gray and there is no coherent though left in my head, except reading it was such a blast. It also hurt me very badly and I cried at one point or two, but that's fine, that's how I know it's good stuff. I'd love nothing more than to have like an hour long conversation about all that you wrote, it's so interesting Nd thought-out. But it's late, my brain has been scorched completely and I had to bring out alcohol for section about mother. So I'll just let you know it's one of the cleveres, eloquent things I've ever read. This is my equivalent of that 6-hour long yt video on Victorious, only catering exactly to my needs. Also, bless your heart, I love knowing about this book but I couldn't bring myself to read it even at the gunpoint.
Thank you for reading it, I really appreciate it! I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about it lol
That book blows my mind, I know that everyone thinks that it's this like terrible whiny rockstar sex misogyny book but the amount of effort and skill that went into writing something that looked like it was that but wasnt but you only noticed if you managed to figure out like the insane 4D chess happening is just genuinely so insane it blows my mind.
i always knew there was something about it cuz on. on the first reading i was only like 14 but i picked up on the freud stuff which made me positive it was satire, and i thought a few other things about it were strange.
but i think in college when i started reading the sun also rises and tender is the night very closely the gears started to turn, i had severely lapsed in my fall out boy obsession for about four years while i was in college but i took this class called "americans in paris" where we read a lot of hemingway and fitzgerald and some other stuff and all i could think about was the book, and i remember reading tender is the night and it felt like i was reading petes book again even though i dont think pete cares about fitzgerald at all
and then i didnt really talk about this in the dissertation i just alluded to it because i didnt particularly want to include a 3 page accusation of a violation of journalistic ethics but i kind of blindly stumbled backwards into some of the stuff with his cowriter while writing the peteryan thing (and then more after the brent wilson thing). and i started to understand how the unreliable narration in the book worked because the articles were written the same way. and i was like ohhh okay and then i noticed the allusions and parentheses and it snowballed from there like that old Playstation game where you roll a ball around collecting garbage until it gets big enough to become a planet
I also know it was excessively niche and very excessively and intricately detailed to the point of being a bit ridiculous but i kind of wanted to respect the fact that its supposed to be a secret and hide the explanation of the book under a bunch of drivel about the drafting process that maybe 3 people on planet earth care about. i probably would have gotten 10-20x more clicks if i had just written about the roman a clef part but alas i have ethics
anyway i have a big dramatic work thing next week and then i am going to finish my cross stitch and listen to the beautiful and the damned on audiobook and try not to think about pete wentz. like at all. because im sick of him believe it or not. and id like to write an essay not about pete wentz. but then i will probably end up writing the verlaine/rimbaud thing

ok i have listened to sntv one and a half times! initial thoughts!
overall i think the instrumentation is better (more interesting, more emotive, fuller) on almost every song
she does sound less emotional on this version overall, but i think she does do some new fun inflections i will grow to love.
song by song analysis under the read more so as to not make this a "do you love the color of the sky" level post
"mine": this felt like a woman reflecting on her past love rather than feeling intense young love in the moment, and i like that
"sparks fly": this one felt a little less intense on first listen, but i founds things i liked better about it on second listen. more data needed.
"back to december": betterrrrrr!!!!!! the music is better, mostly, and her voice is better on it.
"speak now": i think it's a little less fun on the parts i liked before, but it's fun in other places so i think it'll be ok.
"dear john": SHE WENT HARDER ON THE JOHN MAYER GUITAR AND I LOVE THAT otherwise i'm still pretty meh for this song. it's a masterpiece, but it is long and sad and i don't have the patience for it most of the time.
"mean": god i love that banjoooooo
"the story of us": i wasn't a big fan of this song before before, mostly because i think it sounds like a hannah montana song (which i do not mean in a good way sorryyy) but also because i think the spoken bits on the original version are cheesy. somehow these new spoken bits are better for me, more camp. and it still sounds kinda like a hannah montana song, but a little less so. so overall... i think i'm gonna like this version better.
"never grow up": DEVASTATING. perfect.
"enchanted": i didn't much like this song to start with, and this version does not make me like it any better. i know a lot of people hold this song in high regard so i'll leave it there.
"better than revenge": i think the lyric change was a dumb decision that is going to cause people to listen to the original version but i have decided i don't think it's going to break the song for me. i think she put a lot of effort into making the rest of the song go harder and just be better, and i think it evens out.
"innocent": i thought i might like this version better, but i don't. i still don't like it much.
"last kiss": i'm glad she didn't try to recreate the shaky breaths. i think she sounds absolutely wrecked on the new version and it still hurts as much as i needed it to. i am pleased.
"long live": [no initial thoughts, my friends and i were distracted]
"ours": i'm glad she dropped the fake accent. i love the original, but i felt that there was something fake sweet in the way she sung that version, which i attributed to this song being about john mayer and her being a bit bitter about her own lyrics. i think she sounds nicer here.
"superman": i think i might dislike it a little less? still not a fan, and i have a lot of questions about how taylor swift feels about this song.
"electric touch": i am very disappointed. i think it's a bad use of your patrick stump and i don't think he sounds particularly good on it. i had high hopes for the lyrics because taylor swift and pete wentz are both very strong lyricists but the lyrics did not strike me as being particularly good taylor swift lyrics nor particularly good fall out boy lyrics. i also think think that it does not do the title electric touch justice. i hope i can come around on this opinion with future listens.
"when emma falls in love": based on the title, i did not expect to like this song. and i didn't. thought it was cheesy. i did have the thought that different music might help it for me, but alas, this is a taylor's version to start with so that won't happen.
"i can see you": I CAN SEE YOU KICKS ASS. IT SOUNDS LIKE WHAT I WANTED ELECTRIC TOUCH TO SOUND LIKE. in fact i think patrick stump would have sounded great on this. i wish patrick stump was singing on this one instead.
"castles crumbling": i think it's about the kanye west thing. i need to give this song a better listen. i have mixed feelings about taylor swift songs that deal with her own celebrity, and this is one of those sooooo. i don't know. just didn't connect with it. hayley williams sounds good on it though.
"foolish one": oof. Taylor Swift wrote this to personally hurt me. she stalked me and wrote a song telling me all the things i don't want to hear. thanks. fucking ouch. (it's probably my second-favorite vault track.)
"timeless": no strong memories. when i was listening to it with a friend, i said that it felt like a better "starlight" to me.

god, let me TELL YOU about the day i fucking had.
this morning: fell asleep at MAYBE 3:30 for a 5 alarm to catch a greyhound leaving at 6:45. which didn't leave until after 8. my connection was at 11:50, we arrived at 11:55ish. thank the punk rock gods, the connecting bus was still here.
BUT OH NO. in my rush to get to the connection (in a cast and hobbling my best because fuck the crutches), my headphone case (sans headphones) falls out of my pocket in a sacrifice to the punk rock gods. devastating, i can't charge my headphones without the case, but whatever, they're charged enough to get me through the connecting bus ride, and I have backups at home, where I will be after the show anyways.
my friends pick me up in at the stop and head to the venue to get in line. after a few merch mishaps and bracelet trades, im at my seat. it's a GREAT view, and i realise that one of the bits of the show i love is going to happen about ten feet from my seat. fuck yeah. by the time fob is set to go on, even better seats have opened up, incredible! I'll be five feet away from pete!
now, let me take you on a detour: one of the things we as the fans have been doing this tour is printing out pink seashells to light up during fake out to turn the venue pink, and we've been doing it since the tour started in Wrigley. its a group effort with people handing out shells to people without and explaining how it works.
right before fall out boy is set to start, im doing my best to pass out shells when someone taps me on the shoulder and asks, "do you want to give a shell to Pete's girlfriend?" immediately i say yes, of course!
another tangent: i have made several bracelets for both shows i went to. four of these are for fall out boy, saying thanks. I tried in indy to get them to the boys through crew to no avail.
so, after i give meagan, pete's girlfriend, a bit of the spiel and some shells, i humbly request, "i made bracelets for the boys saying thanks, is there a chance you'd be willing to give them to them?" she agrees! another win!!
dance, dance rolls around, im screaming my head off, i get video of pete doing his magic trick (and patrick waving his fingers to pretend like he's the one doing the magic -- ill put everything into a gdrive folder later and post a link somewhere) and then pete is five feet away from me in his mesh rose shirt and im having the TIME OF MY FUCKING LIFE. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE.
the show ends, im waiting for people to clear out to go towards the designated spot to meet my friends. no one else has really stayed by the sound booth. i carefully make my way over there (the seats are mostly empty at this point) and ask the sound guy working if i can have his set list. he hands it to me with a smile :)
and on my way to my meeting spot we pass by the pit and manage to get one of the security people to grab me a handful of confetti and streamers and get it shoved into a ziplock bag before im out for the night.
so: shitty morning, incredible fucking night including confetti and being five feet away from pete wentz and the setlist (the code for 27 was tango sierra btw!) and finally getting my bracelets to the boys. i am so, so, so fucking happy and i feel like the luckiest person in the fucking world and like im currently living the life of a wattpad protag.

Hi!
Talking about podcasts, is there any you listening to regularly? I would like to recommend one, it’s basically a pop culture podcast from Australia, called Shameless, it’s two girls in their late 20 (much younger than I am, but it’s so interesting to listen to them! And their accents are incredible!) talking about all kinds of things, with a good, very thoughtful approach to feminism. So they have this series, called Scandal, it’s about controversies in the celebrity world, believe me, still waiting (and dreading) a Pete Wentz one, to be honest, but not done yet... So there was 2 episodes on the band from the 60x Fleetwood Mac, and boy oh boy, was there a drama going on constantly and to this day!! In their research, they were concentrating on the album called Rumours, (good album btw) and all the shenanigans going on behind the scenes, and through the episodes I was thinking, how lucky we are at the moment, to have THIS kind of launching the album experience, nothing scandalous, nothing problematic, nothing controversial. Just dudes living their lives, and trying get the best of it. Anyhow, every good music made with a lot of feelings is a good one, the one that makes you think, feel, love and hate the world around you.
Okay, first of all, yes, I listen to tons of podcasts while I walk the dog, so I will add this Shameless rec to the list, thank you!!
Second of all, I know a tiny bit about the Fleetwood Mac scandals, enough to know that they existed, and yes, it really does make me think of how lucky we were to get this on-some-level prosaic and dull album launch. "Four guys made some music and they liked it so they put it out into the world." It makes me happy I came to FOB fandom late enough to be past a lot of the drama. I just feel like this must have been a stressful fandom around the Folie time and into the hiatus, when Pete was being vicious and Patrick was being sad.
But anyway! They're happy now!
And this also makes me think of the Pete Wentz Dax Shephard interview (BECAUSE EVERYTHING DOES hahahaha) where Dax was trying so hard to drum up some kind of scandal involving Fall Out Boy and was talking about what their Behind the Music would be like, and I swear to God I feel like Dax says to Pete, "What was your vice as a band? Was it drugs? Was it pussy?" Like, hahaha am I making that up? But I feel like he used some offensive term for women. Okay, I went back into my Twitter archive to find my tweets about this podcast and I have the exact quote Dax asked: "you know, when people aren't addicted to drugs or alcohol, sometimes they're addicted to pussy. Was that you guys?" Yup. That's what he asked. But anyway, the whole time Dax is trying to get at something scandalous, Pete just keeps patiently saying that they're just four dorky guys who like making music with each other. Dax clearly couldn't comprehend such a thing, but...yeah.

Perexcri’s back with another wonderful byler fic 🕺🕺
Will would definetely be a music snob in college o my god its so perfect! I didnt even think of this but its very in character, new headcanon unlocked ✅ (canon Mike Wheeler would, however, never argue with Will Byers. That boy is too whipped. /j)
I love the layout in this one, the way it looks like a mixtape is SO on brand and I JUST LOVE IT!!
I will be recommending this one to my poor friend who has to listen to me rant about random fanfics i find every day (i’ve also recommended aftry to them a few months back and we still talk about it lol)
I hope you’re doing well! :] 🫶
AHHHH HELLO FRIEND!! i'm so glad you read and liked the new fic :D my sincerest apologies for still being stuck on the rose, but at least there's 50k of this au to help pass the time, right?
i am a firm lover of the Will is a music snob headcanon, mostly because i think it's so funny. also, yeah, Will is nice and quiet and sweet and open-hearted to all around him, but he can also be a brat and can run his mouth. which is why this one was so fun to write!! it's fun to explore Will with those softer sides to him, but i also do enjoy making him more sarcastic or acting like the annoying little brother that he is, because i think those are aspects of his canon self, too
plus, i just. think he would be a music snob. everyone on byler tumblr talks about Mike's spotify playlist a lot, but i don't see a lot of people talking about Will's, and if you listen to it...yeah, i 100% think he'd be a music snob. his playlist is a lot of what i was listening to in middle school when i was determined to not like any music that was popular at the time and/or only wanted to listen to "real" music. he even has 3 Jack White music projects on that playlist!! THREE!!!! he has high standards and thinks he is Right, and while i don't believe he'd shove his opinions down everyone's throats, i do think he would hold to his standards
which, not that it matters in the least bit, but this is all to say that i don't think he'd listen to taylor swi[GUNSHOTS]
anyway!! glad i could convert you to my headcanon lol 😌✨
i'm also so so glad you liked the layout!! i've been wanting to do more with different formatting options on ao3 (without venturing into the realm of work skins lol), so this one felt like the perfect opportunity to do so! and i liked keeping it with a classic rock/blues/folk theme for the titles. i was originally gonna title the fic "hold me like a grudge" from the new fall out boy album and do all the subtitles based on fall out boy lyrics, but i'm kind of glad i strayed away from my addiction to Pete Wentz's wordsmithing and went for the classic stuff instead :]
and the fact that you would even consider telling your friend is a honor to me 🥺 AND the fact that you told them about aftry?? ANDDDD you guys still talk about it? you're trying to put me in an early grave, i think. my heart can't take this anymore T_T
but seriously, i'm so so glad you enjoyed it and took the time to read it!! it means the world to me, especially because i did not anticipate this fic turning into the length of project that it ended up being. i thought it'd be like 20k words, max. oh how wrong i was
thanks for being lovely, and thank you for stopping by with such kind words!! i'm wishing you all the best and hope you're doing well, too :] 💜💜💜

19, 27, 33 for the Weird Writing asks?
19. Tell me a story about your writing journey. When did you start? Why did you start? Were there bumps along the way? Where are you now and where are you going?
I started writing fanfic in August 2011. It was right after I came home from summer camp. I’d made a friend at camp who used Fanfiction.net, and it inspired me to make an account myself. ^^;
Initially, I wrote a bunch of weeb shit (Yu Gi Oh, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Fruits Basket, Naruto, etc)
In December 2013, I joined Tumblr. I went through a somewhat cringey Supernatural phase, and ended up posting a couple SPN fics on my FF account.
Then, in late 2015, I got really into Fall Out Boy. In March 2016, I posted my first RPF fic, to my main blog. It was Pete Wentz/Reader. It was set in the Sixteen Candles music video universe (so…Vampire!Pete).
I never actually finished it, because I got some rude comments about how writing fic about Real People was weird and cringey. 😔
Then, in July 2016, I started getting into MCR…and I wrote Party Poison/OC.
Someone I was mutuals with on main - trying to defend me - said, “well it’s not actual Gerard, it’s just a character he played. So it’s not weird haha”
Me in my head: I really want to write about Actual Gerard, though. Fuck. 😰
In October 2016, I created this blog, so I could write MCR reader inserts without shame. ^^;
From October 2016 to February 2021, I was consistently writing MCR fic. That’s an incredibly long time, and I’m so grateful for the friends I’ve made in this fandom. 🖤
But, as winter came to an end, MCR stopped being my special interest. In March 2021, I got really into the anime RWBY, and made an AO3 account, so I could post my RWBY fics there.
Then, In May 2021, I watched Eurovision, and it changed everything.
Mere days after Måneskin won the competition, I started writing a Damiano David/Reader fic. It was multichapter, which was huge for me, because I’d written literally nothing but oneshots for five years straight.
….I didn’t finish this fic, either. 🤦‍♀️
Sometime around August 2021, when Balboa came out, my brain switched special interests again, from Måneskin to Blind Channel.
…and that’s still where it’s at now, a year later. 🤷‍♀️ I don’t know how long this will be my special interest. Or what the next one will be after this. But, I’ve made so many great friends in the BC fandom, too. 💖 So, I hope I stick around for a while.
27. Who is the most stressful character you’ve ever written? Why?
….I had to think hard about this one, because fanfic is rarely stressful for me! I have so much fun with all my characters. 😄
I guess I kind of stressed about Demon!Niko, because that AU was far dirtier and more explicit, than anything else I had written in years. 😳
33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?
Writing is pretty much it for me ^^;
But, I don’t only write fanfic! Fun fact: I’ve been writing poetry since I was like, nine years old.
During middle school, I started reciting my poetry publicly. I even caught the attention of my local literary magazine, while competing at a poetry slam. The magazine was only published in the county where I lived, but I got to tell everyone I was a Published Author lmao
I also got second place in the school talent show 🥈
I took a break from it for a while, but, when I was 20, my friend convinced me to recite some poems at an open mic night at my university. I got so much applause, I was really blown away 🥰
I wish I could find an event like that where I live now. I really miss it. As for how it ties into my fic writing…I’m able to relate to Niko and Gerard a bit more, because they’re lyricists. Singing on stage and reciting on stage feel a little similar, I guess?

Liner Notes (March 24th, 2024)
This week, we try to catch up on two weeks of music and add a whole bunch of first impressions (Sum 41, The Early November, Strung Out, and more). The supporter Q&A post can be found here. If you’d like this newsletter delivered to your inbox each week (it’s free and available to everyone), you can sign up here. A Few Things * It’s been a few weeks since I last wrote a newsletter. Last Monday was my, audible sigh, forty-first birthday. So, the past few weekends have been tied up with quite a bit of family time on top of the usual errands, and I just ran out of hours to sit down and write. I don’t know how to put that idea of being 41 into words. Last year had me feeling things, and this year was a little more of the same. It went by faster. My hair is getting a little grayer. But I still have my family and health and consider myself extremely lucky. Most of my gifts were records or band hoodies (shocking), but Hannah got me some of the New Found Glory Coffee, and I was shockingly impressed with it. A lot of “band coffee” I’ve tried in the past has been over-roasted or very clearly not fresh. This was neither and had an excellent flavor to it. Would recommend. My mom gave me a few of these vinyl record containers, and they’re fantastic. Perfect for stacking, and I’m using them to store some of my overstocks that won’t fit on the shelves (I know, I know). I also had a pretty incredible steak dinner and added some albums to my collection, which I’ve wanted for a long time. The funny thing is, after just a couple of years of putting band merch on my wishlists and now multiple holidays and birthdays passing, my wardrobe has more band-related clothes in it than I ever did back in the AbsolutePunk heyday. And I’m not complaining; I’ve embraced becoming that guy. * I was enthralled with this article on the “two-handed bowler,” and I’ve never followed that sport at all. Fascinating stuff. And this podcast episode with Howard Benson talking about producing Hellow, Rockview and it being one of the first albums ever recorded using ProTools was great. In Case You Missed It * Lauren Mayberry – “Change Shapes” * Cyrus Bolooki on New Podcast * Interview: Jim Adkins of Jimmy Eat World * Review: Yellowcard / Hammock – A Hopeful Sign * Ben Folds Announces New Tour * New Interview With Green Day * Review: Blink-182 – One More Time… * Sharp Eyes – “Past Your Best” (Video Premiere) * Interview: Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy * Albums in Stores – Mar 22nd, 2024 Music Thoughts * Interesting articles jumped to the top of the popularity list last week. What spiked those in particular? I’ll see if I see anything interesting in the referral stats. * OK, let’s start with music from two weeks ago. Kacey Musgraves released Deeper Well, and I think it’s a welcome return. I tried, I did, but I could not get into her previous album at all. This has a very lovely, breezy feel to it. Some of the lyrics don’t work for me (the gravity bong line pulls me out every time), but the whole album is like a warm spring evening. Comforting. Justin Timberlake’s new album is also better than his previous one, but not by much. It’s too long. Bloated. In massive need of restraint and editing. There are individual songs on it that I like, but as an album, I find it a bit of a slog to get through. * This week we have The Gaslight Anthem dropping History Books (Short Stories) and my word is it good. Produced by Butch Walker? A cover of “Ocean Eyes”? A reworked version of “Blue Jeans & White T-Shirts”? Like, come on. An embarrassment of riches here. The full thing is a win, top to bottom, and add me to the chorus of people hoping Butch will produce a full-length from these guys at some point. Ruston Kelly’s collection of b-sides, Weakness, etc., is just as impressive. I’ve been playing both of these back-to-back all weekend. * And now for a string of first impressions: Sasha Alex Sloan’s upcoming album, Me Again, reminds me a lot of Kacey’s new album. It has that… https://chorus.fm/features/articles/liner-notes-march-24th-2024/

So Much (For) Stardust
It's 2am and I am listening to the new Fall Out Boy album for the second time. Last week I had the luxury of attending one of their album-listening parties.
Fall Out Boy has always been one of those bands for me, one of my bands. I've made so many friends through my adventures for them. The first time I saw them live 12 hours prior I was on a flight home from Mexico and begged my dad as soon as I got home to let me go to the show. It was a radio station show 30 minutes from my house. He ended up bringing me - I weaseled my 14-year-old self to the GA barricade and screamed my heart out that night.
Soon after that Monumentour was announced and I got to see two of my bands together that summer. By the end of 2014, I had made so many friends through this band and even started seeing them outside the internet.
In December 2014, I went to NYC for the first time by myself to see Patrick Stump give a GarageBand masterclass at the Apple Store in Soho with my friends.
January came around and so did the release of American Beauty/American Psycho and on release day, they played The Today Show. Ironically enough, my first-ever concert was Hilary Duff on The Today Show. But this January day was different, my friends and I got on a midnight train to the city and were ready to see my favorite band the day their new album came out. We waited hours in just hoodies in Rockefeller Center. It's one of my favorite stories. When it was time for the performance there was a small crowd of us and we got let into the studio to watch. After the set, they all came up to us and talked with us a little bit, and thanked us for coming.
The next month they played the NBA All-Star show and I remember my friends getting my ticket for me while sitting in English class. This show was so special. Hell, Shaq was there handing out cake. That was my first time in Hammerstein Ballroom and also the closest I ever got to be in one of their pits. I remember screaming my heart out and Pete Wentz loving my energy.
I was 16, so concerts were at my parent's discretion. I didn't get to see them again after that until 2016, my 17th birthday gift was seeing Fall Out Boy at Madison Square Garden. 17-year-old me never would've thought I'd end up working there years later. That show was truly an experience, Wintour had one of my favorite productions I have ever seen. Plus, one of my dear friends from those days went with me and we had the time of our lives seeing our band.
When the next album cycle came around, I was away at college so a big tour wasn't really on the agenda. But here we are again. I'll be seeing Fall Out Boy again in August. I'm lucky this time though, I'll be going to two dates. I'm returning to the same venue I saw them at on Monumentour with great seats, and finally getting a real Fall Out Boy pit experience because I'm so lucky they are playing my job. It's so crazy to say Fall Out Boy is playing my job. (Like I didn't just reveal I worked at one of the biggest venues in the world.)
It took me the whole album to write this little love note to Fall Out Boy. I can't wait to scream these new songs with friends old and new. Over 10 years later and this band still has the same chokehold on me as they did on that little kid that wore their Fall Out Boy hoodie every single day of school. This was the album I needed for this point in my life, and I am so grateful for this band always having me when I needed it.
So Much (For) Stardust. AOTY.
