hi so today is @lexirosewrites’s birthday today and like,, idk three or so weeks ago she followed me (hi lexi <3 happy birthday <3 hope today has been fun <3) and to celebrate both of those things i started writing an omegaverse fic, and i wanted it done by today but it is grew a mind of its’ own and now it’s much bigger than i thought it’d be so instead of the full fic, have a snippet <3
again, happy birthday lexi <3
“Hello?” Steve answered, having learned to not open the call with who was answering without knowing who was calling from one too many scam calls
“Is this Steve Harrington?” A soft feminine voice asked, taking Steve by surprise.
“May I ask who’s calling?” Steve asked, not willing to concede his identity until he knew it wasn’t someone looking to sell him ‘Alpha Pills’ or something just as ridiculous.
“Of course! My name is Chrissy Cunningham, you sent in an application for being a full time nanny and tutor?” She responded with a cheerful voice. “I can’t <i>really</i> go much more in depth without an NDA being signed.”
Recognition zapped through Steve’s body and he sat up in his seat. “Oh! Yes, I’m Steve. Um. I’d be happy to sign an NDA, just may I ask why?”
“Yes, you may! My client is a big fan of privacy and only agreed to hire someone if they were under an NDA for the protection of their pup.” aaand all of Steve’s anxiety surrounding the NDA pretty much melted away. Sure, maybe it was a bit much to do, and sure, now he was dying with curiosity to know just <i>who</i> he had ended up applying to, but the knowledge that the NDA was for the protection of the pup soothed any anxiety Steve had originally felt about signing an NDA. In fact, it kind of made his omega perk up. He shook off the feeling, focusing on Chrissy.
“That’s actually really relieving to hear,” Steve said with a laugh. “When or where can I sign the NDA?” he questioned, wondering when Robin would be home so he could tell her.
“Well, first, you and I will do a preliminary interview, just like any other job interview. Then, if all goes well, I’ll send you an email containing the NDA for you to review and sign,” Chrissy explained clearly and cheerfully. “After you sign the NDA, my client will perform an in-person interview and then we’ll go from there.”
“That all seems pretty straight forward so far,” Steve replied, standing from where he had been lounging on the couch. He walked to the kitchen, where he and Robin had put up a magnetic whiteboard calendar to fill with each of their schedules and plans. He grabbed the blue marker, his color, and prepared to jot down when they’d have the interview.
“Perfect! Happy to hear it,” Chrissy said with an audible smile.
“When will the interview with you be?” Steve asked, biting his lip as he stared at the calendar, which had sparsely been marked with his blue marker, even since starting this job hunt. Robin’s plans were in red, and was much more abundant due to having three part time jobs.
“Well, as soon as possible, really. If you’re available now, we could take care of it right away.” the woman responded, sounding like she was walking into another room.
“Oh!” Steve exclaimed, recapping the marker and returning it to the pen holder. “Yes, of course. I’m available now.”
“Perfect!” Chrissy’s voice sounded from Steve’s phone as the omega walked back to the living room and sat on the couch. “So, starting off pretty easy here, what made you apply for this position?”
Steve thought back and grimaced at the reminder that it was Robin who had submitted his application to this particular job. He wasn’t about to admit that, though, and quickly found a more appropriate response.
“Well, I love taking care of pups, and I just got my teacher’s license a month ago,” Steve explained, which wasn’t a lie, so he figured it was probably as good of an answer as any. “I also saw that this job traveled, and my best friend thought that it’d be good for me.”
“Yes, that was going to be part of this conversation, too. So, you’re obviously alright with the traveling, then?” Chrissy asked and Steve heard what he thought could be pen scratching as she wrote notes. He swallowed thickly, suddenly anxious about what she was writing. He decided to ignore his anxiety, even as his scent soured around him with it.
“Oh, yes, traveling is more than okay,” Steve agreed immediately, “but it’s more important to me that I’ll be taking care of a pup, if I’m honest.”
This statement seemed to pique Chrissy’s attention, as the writing stopped for a moment. “Why is that?” she eventually asked.
Steve winced, wondering if he should be up front about it or not. If Robin were here, she would insist that he was honest. He decided on a half-truth.
“I’ve always wanted pups, and a lot of them,” Steve admitted, fidgeting with a loose piece of thread on the couch. He switched which arm was holding the phone, as he had started to get a little sore from holding it up for so long. “But I don’t have a partner, so I can’t really have my own right now. I discovered through babysitting for one of my neighbors that I have a knack for taking care of pups.”
The scratching noise was back as Chrissy listened to his responses. Steve was nervous he wasn’t doing well, but figured that it wasn’t going bad if she wasn’t suddenly calling the interview short.
“Your resume says that you’re good in high stress situations,” Chrissy said after a couple seconds of silence as she wrote down whatever notes she was taking. Steve briefly wondered if he should be doing the same thing. “I’m going to give you an example scenario, and you’re going to tell me how you’d respond.”
“Sounds simple enough,” Steve agreed, trying not to let his voice betray how anxious he was.
“For the sake of simplicity, we’ll say the pup’s name is Rosie,” she informed him before she continued to describe the scenario. “You’re taking Rosie to the park, when suddenly there is a crowd of people surrounding you and you lose sight of her. What do you do?”
Steve thought the scenario was odd, but not ‘out there’ enough to alarm him. He thought about his answer for a moment before replying.
“I would try to follow her scent, first, because that will usually lead me to any pup I’ve babysat. If that doesn’t work, I will call out for her. If the situation is bad enough, I would contact the authorities, and either you or Rosie’s father.” he paused for a second before continuing, trying to make sure he covered all of his bases. “But honestly? If Rosie is small enough, I would have rather carried her once I saw the crowd, or hold her hand, for the reason of lowering my chances of separation.”
Silence that’s only broken up by the scratching of pen against paper followed, and Steve was suddenly anxious that he answered incorrectly. He answered what he would do if it were his own pup, but what if that wasn’t right? What if he wasn’t cut out for this job?
“Alright, next scenario,” Chrissy said, moving swiftly onto the next one without commenting on his answer; Steve didn’t know if he preferred her not acknowledging it or if he would prefer to be told his answer was shitty up front. The next few scenarios were just as oddly specific, but Steve answered them exactly as he did the first one. He tried to not overthink his answers too much because between each one there would be a stretch of time that Chrissy used to presumably write his answers down.
“One last question and then we should be good to move forward.” Chrissy said a good twenty minutes of questions later. “When would you be available to start working?”
Steve’s eyebrows raised, surprised that he was seemingly, maybe being offered the job. “Um—immediately. I would need time to pack, but other than that, I’m free.”
“Wonderful,” Chrissy said cheerfully. “Alright, now it’s your turn. Do you have any questions for me?”
Steve hummed, trying to go through his usual list of questions he asked during interviews that hadn't already been answered and came up empty. “Not at the moment, but I’ll make sure to write any I think of down, if I do.”
“Perfect! So, I will consult with my client, and I have a few other applicants that are interested, but so far, you are my top pick, but I don’t make the decisions,” Chrissy laughed, as if Steve was in on the joke. He laughed with her, not knowing what else he should have done. So, maybe not a job offer, but it sounded promising anyway. “I will be in contact in a few days, three at most.”
“Sounds good, thank you so much for considering me, Chrissy,” he responded with a smile, hoping to leave one last good impression.

Steddie Upside-Down AU Part 37
Part 1 Part 36
Between being poked and prodded by doctors, visitors trickle in. Hopper stops by, gruff as he claps Steve on the shoulder. Mrs. Byers pops in too; she hugs him gently, kissing his forehead with warm lips. Something inside of Steve burns.
His Mom doesn’t come. Neither does his Dad. Or Tommy and Carol. Steve wonders what it says about him that no one he knows comes by. From before. Before monsters and strangers made their homes in Steve’s life in equal measure
His life is thin. And everyone is holding it up to the fluorescent hospital lighting and looking right through it. Like his old Hawkins High basketball shirt from Freshman year, worn and washed enough to make the thread loose and thin everywhere but the seams – almost translucent. No one who knows him comes.
But Eddie never leaves his side.
He’s still there three days into Steve’s hospital stay when Nancy Wheeler shuffles in, Barbara Holland flanking her like a bodyguard.
Steve shuffles up in his bed, foisting himself up with the multiple pillows Eddie’d stacked behind him earlier. Barbara loiters in the door, light glinting off her glasses almost menacingly as she purses her lips and looks Steve up and down.
“Harrington,” she says, leaning against the wall with crossed arms.
“Holland,” Steve says, voice still croaky.
Eddie’s not saying anything, but he’s sitting up in his seat now, staring fixedly at Nancy as she does the same. Neither of them are blinking. He clutches the sheets tightly, wrong-footed.
“Glad you’re not dead,” Barbara says, ignoring whatever Eddie and Nancy have going on.
Steve nods, clearing his throat, looking down at his lap. He tries to run his fingers through his hair, and meets only stubbled skin. It’s just another nail in King Steve Harrington’s coffin. A week in that other place, and it’s hard to put him on, like a fancy suit. But now the suit’s for his own funeral, and he doesn’t know how to talk to anyone who isn’t Eddie or Will.
“I’m sorry about Tommy,” Steve says, blurts involuntarily in the silence. He hears Eddie shift, doesn’t look up from his lap to see how anyone else is reacting. “That wasn’t cool.”
He thinks of Tommy slinging the same curses at Barbara that his Dad slurs at the television screen when he’s three whiskeys deep. Thinks of Barbara’s nasty voice in the Upside-Down, hears her saying, maybe he’s off with his parents, like they’d ever take him anywhere.
Like they’d even realized he was missing.
“You’re not responsible for Tommy Hagain,” Barbara says, “I don’t give a fuck about Tommy Hagan. I care that you’re friends with such a piece of shit.”
Nancy lets out a sharp, reprimanding, “Barb!”
Barbara continues, ignoring her friend. “You don’t get a free pass because you tried to get eaten by a monster.”
Steve snorts, looking up at Barbara Holland, really looking at her for maybe the first time. Her jaws clenched, chin held high. She looks like she’s just as likely to deck him as help him with his homework. Tommy Hagain had shouted slurs at her back that could get her killed, lies or not, while Steve made excuses, and she’d still showed up in his hospital room before his best friend.
Steve looks Barbara in the eyes and says the only thing he can, “I’m sorry I didn’t say anything.”
Barbara squints at him judgmentally before rolling her eyes and taking a seat by Eddie’s side. “Whatever, Harrington,” she says, eyeing him critically. “How are the injuries?”
“I’m fine,” Steve says, ignoring Eddie’s scoff. “I’ll be out of here soon–”
“–with required physical therapy–” Eddie interrupts.
Steve plows on, “–and back to school in no time.”
“–after another week of bed rest.”
“Glad that’s all cleared up then,” Barbara says.
As if Eddie’s attention finally being away from her has made her bolder, Nancy shuffles her way closer, sitting on the foot of Steve’s bed. Everyone else goes quiet. Barbara’s eyebrows are raised as she looks over at her friend, and Eddie looks one second away from lunging out of his chair and ripping out her throat. Clearly, something had happened while he’d been away.
“Steve?” Nancy says, shoulders back, chin raised, as she finally meets Steve’s gaze. “I’m sorry.”
Steve blinks. “For what?”
Nancy bites her lip, shifting her gaze to the empty side of the room. “For leaving you at the party,” she says.
“Nancy–”
“And for,” she says, looking down at her clasped hands before looking back up into his eyes. “You were gone, and Jonathan–”
She stops talking abruptly, looking at Steve beseechingly, like he should already know what she’s talking about. He looks over to Eddie, hoping for help, but Eddie’s too busy glaring at Nancy, so he looks over at Barbara, hoping she’ll put him out of his misery.
“Nancy and Jonathan have a thing going on,” she says, mouth pursed again, but this time, like she feels bad for him. It takes him a minute to figure out why.
“Nancy, it’s fine,” Steve says, trying to think of a tactful way to tell her he’d forgotten they were dating at all. “We kissed a few times, that’s all.”
He doesn’t know how to tell her that his life rearranged itself around Eddie Munson and Will Byers, can’t explain the pull – the way she sort of fell away on his list of priorities, without it sounding cruel.
“Really?” Nancy asks, at the same time that Eddie says, “are you serious?”
Steve nods. “Really,” he says, meeting Nancy’s eyes. They’re glittering, and he can almost remember that feeling from before. The euphoria of having Nancy WHeeler’s undivided attention. But then Eddie takes his hand, and it fades back again. “Friends?” He looks from Barbara to Nancy, offering the branch to both girls.
Barbara shrugs, but Nancy smiles, “Friends.”
They don’t stay much longer, both slinking off now that the air’s been cleared. Eddie stays by his side, like he always does.
“You’re really fine with her running off with Big Byers?” he asks. “Just like that?”
Steve rubs the back of his head, grimacing at the way the prickly hairs feel on his palm. “Does it make me an asshole if I forgot we were going out?”
Eddie throws his head back and laughs, tangled hair trailing down his back, neck muscles straining. His eyes are twinkling as he answers, “I think just this once, you get a pass.”
It's not long until his next visitors of the day stop by. Luckily, they end up being far more enjoyable. Will comes into the room, standing in front of the door, hand clasped on the doorframe.
A body collides with his back, sending him stumbling forward as his fingers scrabble to keep their grip on the frame.
“Will,” a childish voice whines form behind him. “Let me in!”
Eddie’s laughing at his side as Will smiles sheepishly at them. “I brought the party,” he says, looking at his shoes and then up to Steve’s eyes repeatedly. “They wanted to meet you.”
Steve’s stomach flutters, a weird mix of anxiety and excitement coursing through him. “Uh, okay,” he says, sitting up straighter to try to look over Will’s shoulder and see whoever is trying to get past him into the room.
Will steps to the side, and nerdy kids pour in. The first a gap-toothed kid with curly hair. He smiles broadly at Steve, bouncing up to Steve’s bed. Next is a black kid with an awkward smile, shuffling his feet as he follows his friend over to Steve, rubbing the back of his head. Lastly, is Nancy’s brother. Steve recognizes the chubby cheeks and awkward haircut from the pictures lining the Wheeler’s staircase.
His arms are crossed, and he’s glaring at Steve, but he comes up to Steve by Will’s side.
“Children,” Eddie says, opening his arms magnanimously from his seated position, like he’s welcoming them to his grand castle. “Welcome to my humble abode.”
The curly-haired kid squints at him, “don’t you live in the trailer park?”
Eddie puts his hand to his heart, falling back into the chair like he’s been shot. “You wound me, Henderson,” he says, wobbling his bottom lip like he’s about to cry. “I live to serve my King.”
It’s a joke, he knows it’s a joke, but it curls strangely in Steve’s stomach. Like he’d eaten bad Chinese food but wanted to keep eating more. He decides not to think about it anymore.
“You wanna introduce us?” Steve asks, looking at Will.
Will looks up at him through his bangs, smiling softly. “Steve, this is Dustin,” he says, pointing at the hyper kid with the missing teeth, “Lucas,” gesturing at the awkward smile kid still loitering behind him, “and—”
“Wheeler,” Steve finishes. “You look a lot like your sister.”
Mike grimaces, glaring at Steve. “It’s Mike,” he says.
Clearly, that was the wrong thing to say. “Will talked about you all,” Steve says. Will smiles bashfully, and Mike’s frown lines lessen, clearly pleased. “Told me all about your adventures.”
Dustin sits familiarly on the edge of Steve’s bed, bouncing with excitement. “Will told us you played D & D with him!” he says, as if that was leagues more impressive than fighting real-life monsters, “and that you kicked Xanthar’s ass!”
Steve’s mind’s still a bit hazy with drugs, but he remembers Will whispering hints conspiratorially into his ear, practically leading him by the hand to his victory roll.
“Beginner’s luck,” Eddie says, reaching over to pat Steve’s thigh. “I’ll get you next time, Stevie.”
That gets Lucas into the mix. “Next time?” he asks, awkward smile turning genuine and excited. Even Mike can’t tamp down the glimmer of interest in his eyes as he leans closer to Eddie. Steve can’t blame him. Eddie’s got this magnetism about him – it either draws you in or repels you back out.
“You’ll play again?” Will asks, enthusiastic.
Eddie leans his elbow on Steve’s bed, and he knows by the sly glance sent his way that he’s in trouble. “I’m in if Steve here is.”
The force of four children sending wide-eyed pleading looks his way is enough to send him huffing back into his pillows. “This isn’t fair,” he says, glaring at Eddie, even as his heart blooms. Eddie just keeps smiling at him. “Fine!” He throws his hands in the air before crossing them in a huff. “But I lost my character sheet.”
Eddie brightens, reaching beneath Steve’s mattress, and pulling something out. It’s a crumpled piece of paper, torn at the edges, and stained. He smooths it out before handing it over to Steve.
Steve looks down at the character sheet Eddie had made for him, his character’s name and stats printed at the time, Steve’s own notes scrawled along the bottom as things had come up.
“I hid it when the scientists started stealing our shit for their tests,” he says, leaning back in his chair, obviously pleased. “I figured a paper originally from the Upside-Down would be right up their alley, so I snagged it for you.”
There’s a lump in Steve’s throat. He pushes past it, muttering a quiet, “thanks,” as he runs shaky fingers over the ragged paper.
As children bicker around him, begging to play right away, Steve looks down at the paper and thinks that Eddie Munson might just be a miracle.

birdsong - steddie ficlet (-1.5k)
That time Steve got hearing aids.
Tumblr media
Steve has been pissing people off for weeks and he knows it. He just doesn’t know what to do about it. It gets to the point where Dustin snaps at him for never paying attention to them. Steve starts to consider just leaving the country and starting new somewhere else. Somewhere it doesn't matter if he can hear who’s talking to him because he can't understand them anyways. He always thought Italy could be nice. Instead of running, he just shows up less. Both literally and metaphorically.
He starts bailing on more hangouts, figuring he won't be able to hear everyone so what's the point. When he is there he participates less in the conversation. He only engages when he’s really sure he can hear, which isn't a lot. It's mostly one-on-one or one-on-two. He doesn't think anyone notices, but they do. Eddie most of all feels Steve’s absence even when he’s sitting right next to him. He’s noticed the anxious tension in him when they're in groups. He just isn't sure what to do. So, he sits with a Steve-sized ache in his chest. There’s a day when the ache becomes too much, though, and Eddie breaks.
Steve sits in his living room with everyone strewn about. Eddie is next to him like he usually is unless Robin was already at Steve’s first. The kids lay and sit on the rug around the coffee table. Robin is on the other side of Eddie. Nancy sits with her legs tucked under her in a big armchair. The sound of conversation and life flows around him like a pebble in a stream. His edges have been smoothed so the water can move effortlessly, never catching on his surface. He can feel that there are words in the air around him, but there are too many other things around those words. Too much background noise and laughter. He can’t dig through it all in time to figure out what anyone is saying. So, he just stays silent like he has been.
“He’s not listening again,” Dustin says frustratedly.
Eddie frowns and looks at Steve. The movement catches Steve’s attention. He turns to look at Eddie with a small smile. Then he notices that it's more than just Eddie’s eyes on him. His blood runs cold and his throat dries.
“What?” He asks cautiously, eyes flitting to everyone else before landing on Eddie.
“Be honest, can you hear us?” Eddie answers Steve’s question with his own.
“I-”
“Be honest,” Eddie warns.
“No,” Steve sighs, “most of the time I can't really. I mean, I can hear you, but I can't tell what you're saying. It all garbles together like I’m underwater or something.”
“I think it's time to go to the doctor, Stevie,” Eddie says softly.
Steve frowns, but nods. There's a nervous twist in his stomach at the thought. He agrees to make an appointment the following day. Eddie hangs behind after everyone else leaves for a little bit. He does this sometimes and Steve’s never complained. Steve’s never thought about complaining. There's no surprise when Eddie gently grabs his hand either. He does that sometimes too.
“Do you want me to go with you?” Eddie asks.
The question nearly makes Steve cry. He wants to cry so bad. He wants to cry because he misses being able to hear his friends. He wants to cry because he’s scared of what's going to happen to what's left of his hearing. He wants to cry because Eddie is standing here offering to go to his doctor’s appointment with him like he’s a child. Mostly, he wants to cry because he’s so fucking happy Eddie offered and he doesn't have to ask. Steve nods.
“Yeah, if you don't mind,” he answers with a slight waver in his voice.
Eddie smiles all sticky and sweet at him. Steve silently wonders what he did to be worthy of a smile like that.
“‘Course I don't mind. Just tell me when and where and I’m there,” Eddie promises.
And he was. Eddie drives Steve to the ENT on the morning of his appointment the next week. He sat in the waiting room until Steve was done, but the knowledge he was there was enough. It was the same thing when Steve was sent to the Audiologist two weeks later. Eddie sat in the waiting room patiently while Steve sat in a booth answering all sorts of questions and prompts. It doesn't really sink in until he sees Eddie stand from his chair. The knit of his brow tells Steve his face says it all.
“What’s the verdict?” Eddie asks.
“They’ll let me know when to come in and be fitted for my hearing aids,” he sighs with a frown.
“That’s good!” Eddie smiles as they walk out of the office.
“Good? Eds, I’m going to have hearing aids,” Steve scoffs.
“Yeah, which means you’ll, y’know, be able to hear,” Eddie points out.
“Well, yeah, but-”
“Nope, no buts except yours in my van,” Eddie interrupts him and points to the passenger side as they approach the van.
Steve rolls his eyes with a small smile as he climbs in.
“I just don’t feel like it's that bad,” he admits quietly as the van choked to a start.
“How bad did they say it was?”
Steve remains silent for a beat as Eddie pulls out. He sighs and glances out the window at the building as they leave.
“I'm working with sixty percent of my hearing in one ear and seventy in the other,” he tells Eddie.
“Stevie,” Eddie breathes with a shake of his head, “If the doctors say these things will help you then they’re worth a shot. M’tired of you bailing out on things- yeah, I noticed.”
Steve’s face flushes at being caught like that. He exhales slowly and nods.
“Okay,” he agrees, “I’ll give them a shot.”
A couple weeks later he’s called into the office for his hearing aids. Eddie is so quick to drop what he’s doing to go with him it nearly gives Steve whiplash. The sight of Eddie’s van pulling up gives a strange swooping sensation that he's grown used to around Eddie. The appointment itself takes around an hour. Then Steve is walking out fashioned with two white hearing aids hooked over his ears. His eyes are wide as they bounce to the television and then the clacking behind the desk. Eddie beams at him and stands. Steve looks beautiful so stunned. Hell, Eddie can admit that Steve just looks beautiful.
“C’mon, Stevie, let’s go give’em a spin,” he says with a wolfish grin.
Steve laughs and nods. They don't get far, though. Once they step foot outside Steve comes to a halt. He makes a noise that's a cross between choking and a sob. Eddie’s hands fly to examine him for injury, but there is none. Steve’s lip wobbles, his face is blotchy and red, and his warm toffee eyes are trained on the tree a few feet away. Eddie’s mouth opens to ask, but then Steve’s eyes are on him like that. His eyes overflow with more emotion than Eddie knew a human could hold.
“The birds,” Steve croaks.
“What about’em?” Eddie’s brows furrow.
He glances accusingly at the little chirping finches in the tree. Steve chuckles wetly at the sight.
“I- I can hear them. It’s been so long- I didn't even realize,” Steve shakes his head, “I don’t know the last time I’ve actually heard the birds.”
Steve’s wonder-filled gaze turns back to the birds in question. He laughs again, heartier this time at the notion. He can hear birds.
“Shit,” Eddie whispers to himself, “I’m so in love with you.”
At least he thought it was to himself. An hour ago it would have been to himself. Steve’s face whips around with huge eyes. His lips part slightly as he watches Eddie stunned. Eddie freezes, absolutely terrified. He’s so sure he just fucked it all up.
“I can hear you too,” Steve whispers.
Eddie swallows the lump in his throat.
“Nah, pretty sure that was a bird too,” he attempts to joke it off.
“I really hope not,” Steve frowns.
Eddie blinks hopefully.
“Really? Why?”
“Because I’m in love with you too.”
Safe to say, Steve is very happy he got hearing aids.

Children of the Night (Steddie X You)
Tumblr media
"Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!"- Dracula
A/N: "I present to you...this fucking thing." Lol always the TikTok that comes into my head when I try something new. I had started doing like a camboy Steddie thing but I struggled a lot with it and the feelings I wanted to convey. While listening to a song, this idea popped into my head so... I hope you enjoy it!
For the first half, everyone is referred to by their screen names.
Eddie is Dracula.
Steve is Renfield
Reader is Mina
I also set it in 2005 when things like streaming were relatively new and cameras weren't 100% clear.
Warnings: Camboys Steddie (Vampire Eddie and Human Steve) X Human Fem Reader, SMUT of the Steddie variety, Daddy kink (because im me lol), choking, biting. ANGST, blood is mentioned mostly from Eddie feeding, the reader has an abusive boyfriend so Domestic Violence Trigger, Eddie defends her and both boys take care of her. I think that's it.
Word Count: 4046
InnocentLittleMina: Hey sexy boys.
You grinned at your computer screen when you saw the long-haired boy smirk under his mane of hair.
“Hey, honey. How are you tonight?”, the other man smiled lovingly into the camera.
InnocentLittleMina: I’m alright. Can’t complain. What about you?
“I’m ok. As you can see Dracula is a little grumpy.”, he teases.
“I’m hungry.”, he growls making you giggle.
When you first saw these boys known only as Dracula and Renfield, you were drawn to them immediately. There was something about them that was not only attractive but confident as hell and it drove you wild. People around town talked about them constantly which was interesting since Los Angeles was a huge city. In 2005, there weren’t many people streaming, let alone broadcasting the content they were.
Everyone including police tried to track them down but never could. Their website itself was fairly generic but that’s not what their fans cared about. What they cared about was the content these two provided.
The man known as Dracula would feed of off the other man known as Renfield and nine times out of ten it led to something sexual. The first time you heard Renfield moan, your pussy clenched around nothing. It was the most beautiful sound you had ever heard. Not many of their fans stayed after they finished but you always did, loving the way Dracula took care of Renfield after. They seemed to genuinely care about each other and that was something you appreciated.
When you created your account you hoped it would get their attention and as luck would have it, it did especially since a lot of the female fans that watched them named their accounts after the character Lucy always believing that was the girl Dracula fell for.
After a few months of back and forth, you actually came to know them as friends. Dracula didn’t talk as much as his friend but he did chime in where necessary and played his guitar for you once or twice making you swoon. Renfield always asked about your day and told you things about their time away from the computer but you couldn’t help but feel like they were holding information back.
You asked them constantly why they decided on this particular vampire style content and theme and every time they changed the subject. You asked once how they faked the blood that stained Renfield’s chest when they were done and they pretended like they didn’t hear you. You asked them for their real names and each time they said their screen ones making you sigh.
To make up for being obtuse and hoping to distract you, Renfield offered you a job as their moderator and paid you fabulously for your time. Since they trusted you enough with their business, you met their kindness with one of your own by turning on your webcam and showing them your face.
Dracula’s eyes had turned towards you, grinning at your beauty.
“Pretty girl.”
“Very.”, Renfield agreed.
It had been a few months since then and you were extremely fond of them both.
InnocentLittleMina: Ok, well, you have your stream in a few minutes so… don’t get too hungry! You need and love him.
“I do.”, Dracula smiles.
“We’ll talk to you after, honey.”, Renfield winks and you watch as they get into their places on the bed behind them.
***
A little sigh left your lips as both men removed their shirts. Dracula’s tattoos on his chest always had you entranced. You noticed the first time you watched them that they both had scars along their stomachs up to their necks but that was a question you knew better than to ask. Trauma like that was none of your business unless they chose to tell you.
The stream began and you kept your eyes peeled as fans began pouring in. They never said a greeting nor even said hello. You figured part of it was because by this point Dracula’s eyes were black like a shark on the hunt and those contacts had to be killing him.
Straddling Renfield’s waist, Dracula tenderly kissed the man’s neck before gripping his fluffy hair in his hand and tugging him back as he bit into his skin. Renfield’s palms promptly came around to cling to Dracula’s head as his eye’s rolled and he fell backwards onto the mattress.
A heavy exhale escaped you at the sight, licking your tongue across your lips as his hips began grinding up against his own.
“Fuck. That’s it, baby. Take what you need.”, Renfield moaned.
Something happened. Dracula’s head abruptly shot up looking vacantly in the distance.
“What? What’s wrong? Wh-What do you feel, honey?” He cooed underneath him as he ran his fingers across his cheek and moved some of his messy hair back.
“Mina.”, he growled.
That got your attention as you sat up straighter. They both swiveled their heads towards the computer before you heard heavy footsteps and immediately yanked the cord from the wall just as the door opened.
“John! Hey. I-I didn’t think you’d be coming over tonight.”
“You say that like you’re not excited to see your boyfriend.”
“Pfft. No, baby, I am. You just scared me is all. H-How was your day?”
His stern blue eyes flicked towards your little pink razor phone by your end table as it continued to vibrate. The boys knew your number. You gave it to them when they hired you.
Please don’t let him walk over there to see.
“Are you going to get that?”
“No, baby. I want to talk to you. Tell me about your day. I missed you—”
“Answer. The phone. Y/N.”
You sighed, pretending to be annoyed he was making you answer a random call as you flipped it open.
“Hello?”
“Mina?! Are you alright?!”
“I’m sorry. I think you have the wrong number.”
You can hear them arguing in the background, vaguely picking up tidbits as your boyfriend steps closer to you.
“I can feel her. I know where she is! Something bad is about to happen to her!”
“NO! You can’t reveal yourself and bring her into our mess! She deserves to have a better life!”
“She won’t have a fucking life, Steve, if this fucker kills her!”
“I always knew I’d catch you cheating on me sooner or later. Give me the phone.”
“John, I’m not… I would never…”
“Give it to me NOW.”, he snarls. You do as he says and as soon as your device touches his palm, his free one flies across your face smacking you so hard you fall on to the mattress. “Whoever this is, what you have with my girl is over.”
The growl that came through your phone’s speaker scared even you as you heard it loud and clear from where you were.
“You’re going to regret touching her. If I were you, little man, I would leave now.”
With that there was silence and John threw the phone across the wall hoping to smash it into pieces. You two began fighting each other but he was much stronger than you, getting a good hit to your eye making you dizzy.
The banging of the door caving in is loud and your eyes are half open when you see a blur fly into your room, tackling your boyfriend to the ground. You hear his screams but they sound so far away. After a few minutes, everything is silent again and your arms fly out defensively when a hand touches your side.
“No! No please!”
“I’m not going to hurt you, Mina. I never would. Just hold on to me, ok?” You feel your body being lifted and you press your cheek against cold, bare skin. “Clasp your hands around my neck, sweetheart.”
After barely registering his command, you feel a sudden rush of wind and after a minute you find yourself being placed on a bed that isn’t yours.
“Have you lost your fucking mind!? Killing someone and then bringing her here!?”
“How do you know I killed him?”
“Because I fucking know you!”
“Can you stop berating me and help her, please!?”
A much warmer hand tenderly moves your hair back as something wet is dragged across your face making you jump.
“Hey, hey now. Everything’s ok. I just need to clean your cuts here. Can you go get me some ice, please?” Wind lightly blows your hair back twice before you hear the pack slam into his hand. “Thank you. What, um, what was happening when you got there?”
“He was hitting her. I’ve felt his anger before but this was different.”
“So you did go hunting for her even though I told you a thousand times not to.”
“No.”, he snarled, voice deep with annoyance. “I can just…feel her. I don’t get it either ok?!”
“Oh wow.” The wet rag was replaced with the cool of the ice pack as the man’s voice beside you got louder. “You like her.”
“And you don’t? She’s beautiful, kind, funny—”
“Innocent.”
“Fuck. Off. Little boy. Or I swear to God—”
“You swear to God what? Finish that sentence, Dracula. I dare you.” The man scoffed as he focused his attention back on you. “Go clean up your fucking mess while I take care of her.”
There’s a whoosh of air and everything in the room stills.
################
You woke up the next morning in utter confusion. You vaguely remembered your boyfriend being angry and attacking you but then…someone saved you. Turning to your side, you noticed you were at home in your room tucked safely under the covers.
Carefully standing, you glance around the room to find nothing out of place except for your phone by your bed that was broken in half.
Loud knocking on the door, startled you before you power walked to see who it was before answering. Sighing, your best friend doesn’t even wait for you to fully open the door before she barges in.
“Ma’am! I have been calling you all morning and your phone goes straight to voicemail! What’s going—“ She freezes when she sees your face. “Y/N! Oh my god! What happened?!”
“Nothing, Lilly. I’m fine. I just—”
“Fell? You always say that. Where is that fucker? Is he here? I’m going to kill him.”
Lilly stomps towards your bedroom and you quickly run after her but you’re not one percent sure why. Him being attacked was a dream you had, right?
“Hm. Well, next time I see him he’s dead. Jesus, looks like he destroyed your phone. Come on. Let’s go the store so we can get you a new one. Maybe one of those sleek shiny new ones with the screen you touch.”
“But I like my razor phone. It’s shiny enough.”, you smile as you change to go out into the world.
***
As you amble around the phone store, you friend continues to babble about mundane things that you barely hear. What does catch your attention is a group of girls talking in the corner. Pretending to look at the devices in front of you, you slide closer to them as you listen in.
“Did you see their stream last night?”
“It started getting good but then Dracula disappeared to ‘save Mina’. Like are they kidding?”
“I hope they aren’t mixing plot with their sex-ca-pades.”
“Now if they want to add a Mina I think that’d be hot but don’t just cut a stream short like that!”
“Y/N! Did you find what you want?”, your friend practically shouts making you and everyone around jump.
“Yes! Good God, Lilly. Lower your voice.”
“Aw. I love you to.”
***
Staring at your blank computer screen, you debated on even signing on. All the clues were telling you what happened last night was real but that can’t be, right? You had called John multiple times to no avail and even went to his house with no answer. Checking the message boards of their fan group, others were saying what the other group had said about them cutting mid-stream and Dracula abruptly vanishing.
What happened?
“Hey, honey—Oh my god, Mina what happened?!”, Renfield asked as soon as you signed in. Dracula was sitting beside him, his arms folded as he starred off to the side. Turning on your mic, you decided you needed to know the truth.
“I was going to ask you that.”
“Us? Why? The last time we saw you was before our stream.”
“Really? I could swear I heard Dracula’s voice in my house and then you two fighting while I was passed out.”
“Huh. A dream maybe? I mean, we’re pretty far from you.”
“Oh yeah? Where?”
Your stern tone had Dracula turning to face the screen as Renfield sighed.
“Far, Mina.”
“How would you know? I don’t even know your names let alone where you live.” You glare at your computer, feeling a confidence you had never felt before. “Did you kill John? Or hurt him?”
“Who cares what happened to that asshole? You deserve better.”, Dracula answers in a deep tone of his own that made you a little bit nervous but you ignored it as you pushed forward.
“Again, how would you know? You never met him.”
“Don’t need to see him to see the damage he inflicts on you every time he comes over. Why do you put up with it, sweetheart? Because you think you deserve to be treated like trash?”
“How did you get here so fast? People are saying you disappeared after saying my name.”
“This was a mistake.”, Renfield whispers to the boy beside him.
“I’m not afraid of you…either of you. I just…I just want answers.”
Dracula’s eyes darken as he turns to Renfield.
“No. No! Don’t you fucking—”
Before he had finished his sentence, the long-haired boy was gone and you heard your front door open as a breeze hit your face.
“You may not be afraid of us now, little one, but you will be.”
With that, he lifted you over his shoulders like a sack of potatoes and in the blink of an eye you were back in a room you vaguely remembered.
##############
“Why am I even here? You never fucking listen to me!”, Renfield whined.
“Sit.”, Dracula commanded you as he pointed towards a chair. “Not a sound. Do you hear me?”
You nod completely frozen in fear at the speed of which he even brought you back to their house.
“You to. Sit.”
“Fuck you. Are you kidding me right now? After everything we’ve done to avoid getting caught—”
The man choked on his words as a strong hand wrapped around his throat and walked him backwards towards the end of the bed.
“I’m not in the fucking mood to have this argument right now, Steven.”, Dracula growled angrily. “I didn’t get to finish eating last night and I’m starving.”
“You…you didn’t…eat her boyfriend. I’m…shocked.”
Your eyes widened at his audacity to talk back even in the position he was currently in. Plus, he always seemed so gentle so hearing him talk this way startled and excited you.
Dracula’s eyes fluttered closed as he dropped Renfield who promptly gasped for air.
“Jesus Steve, if you could fucking smell what I smell you’d do anything for her to. You think she’s scared but she’s not. She’s turned on.”, he whispers as you watch him adjust himself in his jeans.
“Steve?” They both turn to look at you as you suddenly speak. “Renfield is Steve. W-Who are you, Dracula?”
The man can feel your heart beat slow as you find a sense of grounding in your current chaos. He wasn’t lying when he said he could feel you weren’t afraid but you were extremely confused, trying to make sense of a reality that they both had long accepted.
“Eddie. My real name is Eddie.”
Your hand shakes as you point to your chest. “My name is Y/N.”
Something in their room beeps as they give each other their attention once again.
“You’re insane if you think we’re streaming right now.”
Eddie points his finger at you once more as his voice deeply rumbles.
“No noise. Not even a squeak.”
They get into a position you’ve seen numerous times but this time the energy is different. The man you now know as Steve clenches his jaw as he tilts his head to expose his neck.
A ring laced hand reaches out to cup his cheek and turns his face towards his own as he leans his forehead on his.
“Please don’t be this way. I need you.”, Eddie whispers.
“Yeah. For this right? Because you sure as hell don’t listen or care about my opinion.”
As they murmur to each other, you imagine it’s too low for the mic to pick up but you can hear it and the pain in both their voice breaks your heart. The metalhead’s dark eyes flick towards the web cam before settling back on the man beside him.
“I do, sweetheart. I care about you and what you have to say. It’s because of you I’m still here…I’m safe.”
Steve’s eyes flutter slightly as his admission as he blinks back tears.
“I love you.”, he whispers as he kisses his forehead.
“I love you to, baby. Come here. Let me take care of you to.”
Eddie tenderly pushed Steve back against the mattress, pulling down his sweats and boxers, and tossing them to the floor. When his cock sprang free, Eddie wasted no time, licking and kissing his tip before enveloping him fully into his mouth.
“Fuck.”, Steve whimpered as he reached down to tangle his fingers in the boy’s messy hair.
Lifting his head, he spit on the man’s dick and twisted his wrist as his palm smeared his saliva along his length.
“Such a good boy for me always, aren’t you, baby?”
“Y-Yes, sir.”
“Sometimes I can be a bad boy and not think.” While pumping his hand faster, Eddie leaned in close to whisper in his ear. “But Steve, you were right. I like her so fucking much. You can’t tell me you don’t want to make her moan. Taste that sweet pussy I smell practically dripping from here.”
Steve’s eyes turned to meet yours as he continued to speak.
“Feel a beautiful woman’s tight cunt choke your dick again.”, Eddie tightened his fist as if to prove his point as he quickened his pace. “To have a girl in our lives again who isn’t afraid of us and makes us feel complete.”
Steve craned his neck back towards Eddie as he passionately kissed his lips.
“Take what you need, honey, please.”
Unbuckling his belt, he pushed his jeans down enough to free his cock, and both men mewl as Eddie guides himself into his entrance. You couldn’t help when your hand slid between your shorts and you rubbed your clit. Their moans, Eddie’s passion as he thrust into him, and Steve’s tenderness when he clung to his back drove you wild.
“Can—shit—can you hear it, baby? The sound her fingers between her legs.” Steve nodded as he waited for Eddie to truly take him. “Fuck, you feel so good. Are you ready?”
“Y-Yes, sir. I’m ready.”
From your angle you couldn’t see much of what happened next. Eddie’s head tilted slightly and Steve’s entire body arched as he held the man closer to him. The metalhead’s pace quickened as he slammed his hips into his partners.
“J-Just like that, Daddy, fuck.”
Eddie grunted as one of his hands came up to cup the boy’s cheek as if to hold him still as he sucked on his neck. Steve shuddered as his eye’s rolled and he came. Eddie’s own rhythm faltered just enough as his grip tightened on his boyfriend’s hair and released his seed inside of him.
Steve became limp as the man above him continued to roll his hips till he had given him everything he had and came off his neck with a loud syrupy smack. Your own body trembled as you came, covering your mouth as to not give yourself away.
Eddie crawled down the man’s frame as he headed for the opposite corner of their room to the mini fridge where he grabbed two water bottles and a power bar. Normally, they left the cameras on to show the aftercare but this time, he sauntered towards his computer and promptly ended the stream.
After handing a bottle to you without looking your way, he immediately focused on Steve.
“Sit up, sweetheart. There we go. Here eat this for me ok?”, he coos as he hands him his snack before leaning under the bed and producing a first aid kit. You watched with studious eyes as Eddie grabbed a rag and cleaned the blood from his neck while Steve daintily nibbled on the bar in his hands. “Good boy. Drink some water.” His fingers tenderly pushed back some of the boy’s hair as he kissed his shoulder.
“S-S-So, this is real. You’re really a vampire?”
He heavily sighs as he looks your way. “I am.”
“And what is Steve?”
“My boyfriend. He…he takes care of me.”
“How? What? I…I have so many questions.”
“Tomorrow, little one. He won’t be back to 100% for another few hours and even then he’s had a long couple of days. Here. Let me take you home.”
“NO! I mean…please. May I stay?”
“Um, yeah sure. I don’t see why not. Let me see if we have any clean spare sheets for that guest bedroom we have.”
Once he leaves, you sit by Steve’s side and glance over the wound on his neck.
“He should really cover these up since they’re kind of deep.”
“Pfft. They’ll be gone by tomorrow. Eddie uses vampire voodoo whatever he can to make sure he doesn’t leave a scar. As you noticed, honey, we have enough.”, he giggles. “He’s right you know. You are very beautiful. I’ve always thought so.” You softly smile as his palm lazily comes up to trace your now black eye from yesterday.
“Fucking asshole. He’s lucky I can’t run in the blink of an eye.”
“Steve, sweetie, why don’t you lay back?”, you grin as he limply nods and scoots his head up towards the pillows.
“Y/N. I have to keep saying it so I don’t forget. Y/N.”
As his eyes close, you lay on your side beside him and run your fingers along his cheek till your palm rests on his chest.
“He’s fine.”, Eddie announces from the doorway where he had been observing you two talk. “I never take enough that would kill him or turn him. That first night though I did the same thing.”, sighs as he gestures towards your hand.
“Is it ok if I stay with him?”
“Yeah, sure. I’ll just hang out in this room here—”
“You can lay here if you want. I don’t mind.” He scans you over making you slightly self-conscious. “I mean…unless…you have a coffin you sleep in or…”
Eddie laughs as he comes to the opposite side of the bed and lays on his back.
“No coffins, princess. I sleep here with him.”
“I’ve never heard you laugh before or even seen you really smile. It looks good on you.”
He smiles as he turns on his side and brushes some of your hair away from your face.
“Y/N.”
“Eddie. I like your names better than your screen ones. Plus both Dracula and Renfield’s stories end tragically.”
“Maybe Eddie and Steve’s stories did end tragically…”, he muses. “Or it was the only book he and I actually read in school.”
You giggle as he grins your way before he’s taken aback when you roll over and pull his arm over your waist. Most people feared him especially back in their hometown. It had been so long since anyone besides Steve touched him without hesitation and he didn’t realize how much he missed the contact.
Even though he soothed your worries, your hand still rested against Steve’s chest making sure it was still rising and falling at a normal pace. There was a lot you didn’t know about them but you were dying to find out.

Steddie Sick fic pt. 1
Pre s4 - Eddie is sick but doesn't want to miss Hellfire, until he collapses from his fever and the kids in a panic call Steve. Steve taking care of Eddie who while delirious calls him pretty and says he had a crush on him.
Eddie had been feeling off since he woke up, his throat was dry and scratchy and his body ached like he got hit by a bus. But he needed to maintain some level of attendance at the school and he was already pushing his limits so he downed some painkillers with a cup of coffee and grabbed his books and keys before heading to school.
He doesn’t remember if he managed to take notes or not, even if he did they probably wouldn’t be coherent. His head feels stuffed full of wool and he barely managed to keep down two of the crackers and the water Gareth insisted on nudging his way. When the last bell rang he trudged towards the Drama room to start setup, because of course he couldn’t just go home when he felt so awful, they had Hellfire tonight. He kept his head down, waiting for the halls to mostly empty before moving, and if he had to occasionally lean against the wall to get there that was his business.
A lesser DM may have canceled or postponed but he knew little Will Byers would be leaving them soon for California and that Wheeler, Henderson, and Sinclair were trying to spend as much time together as possible. Honestly it felt a little codependent the way that the others clung to Will, all of them insanely attentive to the smallest flinch the smaller boy let out. There was clearly a story there, one Eddie wasn’t in the mood to hear today.
He got the minis set up and all but collapsed into his throne, everything hurt and the room was swimming a bit around the edges of his vision. He was breathing hard and shallow too, he needed to get it together. Gareth showed up earlier than everyone else, Eddie was fairly certain his friend could tell that he was under the weather. This was confirmed when the drummer pressed more painkillers into his hand and passed him a still warm cup of tea.
“You break into the teachers lounge?” Christ, was that his voice?! He quickly downed the pills and took a quick sip of the tea.
“You sure you’re up for this man?” Gareth asks instead, Eddie waves his worries off as he takes another sip.
“Yeah man I’m fine, just a frog in the throat is all.” It’s pretty clear neither of them were convinced by that but before his friend could protest or make him cancel the children arrived and the other boy was forced to retreat.
This wasn’t Eddie’s best game he’ll be honest. Between trying to sip the tea as little as possible in order to make it last and all of his npc voices still coming out weak and raspy he just wanted this session to be over. The kids were arguing and Eddie barely had enough strength to smack a hand on the table to shut them up instead of shouting at them. Will kept staring at him, intuitive little fucker he was, could probably tell Eddie wasn’t all there. Okay it was time to end this.
Eddie stood from his throne and tried to make it look like he planned it when he had to splay his hands across the table to stay upright. Black spots danced across his vision and he blinked hard several times to try and clear them. He shook his head when that failed and oh shit that only made it worse, now with spotty vision and vertigo Eddie had to swallow hard as bile climbed up the back of his throat. Just two more minutes damnit.
“Alright everyone, tha-,” he cleared his throat, why did it feel like he was swaying in circles, he wasn’t was he? “That’s all forrrr…” His knees started to buckle so he locked them, fat lot of good it did when they already felt like jelly. He straightened up to his full height and realized too late that was a very bad idea.
“Shit.” Was the last word that slipped from his lips before everything went black.

@eddiemonth prompt, oct 7th: Wayne | The Seeker - The Who | Warm a/n: vampire!eddie, eddie & wayne, implied steddie. un-betaed because I’m challenging myself to write these in under an hour. read on ao3 | link to masterpost on ao3
Wayne takes Eddie in officially when he’s 13 years old. It’s winter in Indiana and the kid shows up without so much as a jacket.
Who doesn’t buy their kid a jacket in Indiana winter?
Well, Clyde Munson, apparently.
He’s dropped off at Wayne’s trailer with no coat and refuses to shake Wayne’s hand when he offers it out in a gesture of good will. Eddie’s a skinny kid, a little scraggly and a lot ornery, but nothing Wayne knows he can’t fix with some hot dogs and a few hugs.
He’s almost always cold though, no matter how much weight he puts on, or however many layers he wears. Wayne makes sure he has a good coat and tries his best to keep the trailer warm but it’s tough in these midwest winters.
Trailers hold the heat in the summer, and unfortunately, the chill in the winter.
He takes the opportunity to Eddie how to make the best hot chocolate, even the occasional tea, and passes along his favorite soup and stew recipes. Grandma Munson taught Wayne and Clyde when they were kids, and it’s a goddamn shame that Eddie was robbed of making those memories, too. The intention was to share family recipes but Wayne’s pretty sure that Clyde’s forgotten the old peach kitchen in its entirety. Eddie loves them though, all of them– potato soup, chicken noodle, beef stew.
They keep him and his heart warm at the same time.
Wayne watches Eddie grow up, watches him struggle in school and with himself, but he knows his boy is trying. He hadn’t had the easiest start to life so Wayne gives him yards and yards of slack when he fails his senior year twice, when he grows his hair out, when he plays that racket at all hours of the night, when he’s brought back to the trailer park by Chief Hopper instead of to the station. He has an agreement with his old fishing buddy, and Chief Hopper knows Eddie’s misguided but harmless.
But then Chief Hopper dies, or so he thinks, and Eddie doesn’t have this protection from the closed-minded townspeople who see him as a leper, a stain on their town.
Eddie’s accused of murder and Wayne knows that his boy who only drinks hot chocolate out of his Garfield mug and shivers until there’s two thick blankets thrown over his shoulders didn’t do it. Not when he’s constantly talking about protecting the younger kids of Hellfire Club from the “dystopian nightmare of normalcy” and taking a cut of his weekly dealing profits to buy cat food for the park strays.
Wayne understands why Eddie runs, but it leaves him sitting alone, wondering, afraid. Eddie’s his to keep safe, no matter how old he gets, and now he can’t. He can’t protect him from the town, he can’t protect him from the media, he can’t protect him from the basketball team or the earthquake that follows. There’s no way to link them logically, but he knows in his heart of hearts that Eddie’s disappearance and the odd series of catastrophic earthquakes are related.
It only gets worse when Dustin gives him the bloody guitar pick, that red one Eddie wears daily cold and sticky in his calloused hands. No one will tell him the truth, but Eddie is a survivor. If there was a way to climb out of a ditch or from under a tree, he would’ve. Hell, these friends of Eddie’s that Wayne meets in the aftermath look like his company coming back from the War.
The Harrington boy in particular tells him the same story: Eddie was lost when the Earth splintered open and he pushed Dustin out of the way in a show of self-sacrifice, but his eyes seem desperate, unfocused, lost.
Wayne knows this was no earthquake and goes searching.
Every night for months, Wayne goes out into the woods and looks. He doesn’t know what he’s looking for, exactly, but he ignores everyone who tells him to let it go and work through his grief. He doesn’t need to mourn until he knows for sure that Eddie’s dead and he doesn’t. Not when the Harrington boy looks like there’s a truth beating at his chest as he watches him with a kind of pity that doesn’t match the story.
It’s a sweltering summer night when he heads into the woods looking for answers for the last time. He and his flashlight search the brush, look beneath bushes and behind gnarled trees. An owl hoots in the distance and Wayne hears the snapping of twigs behind him.
Wayne turns to face whatever approaches him, frighteningly calm. After the past few months, he’d welcome a bear.
What he finds instead is Eddie. Or, well, a version of Eddie. His eyes are less chocolate brown and more red velvet, and he was always a pale kid but Wayne doesn’t remember the bluish bags beneath his eyes. He’s still Eddie– there’s something different about him, but it doesn’t matter. Not to Wayne.
“Eddie?” Wayne steps forward.
“Hey, old man.” His voice echoes, almost musical, but it breaks all the same. “I shouldn’t be here, but I couldn’t keep you in the dark anymore. A lot of things happened, but I’m… well, not quite alive but I’m okay. Or, at least I’m gonna be.”
“Son, what the hell is going on? Let me help.” Wayne’s heart pounds in his rib cage, hard enough to be felt in his stomach and heard in his ears.
Eddie’s eyes dart down to Wayne’s chest and back up, shaking his head rapidly. “It’s a long story, and it’s not over yet. But when it is, I promise I’ll tell you. You just– you can’t tell anyone about this or that you saw me. You’ll be in danger.”
“Does anyone else know?” He asks, but he knows the answer. Suddenly, Steve's reactions all make sense.
Eddie nods. “He wants to tell you too, but it’s not time yet. Just, please, listen to them. If they tell you to leave town, do it. If they tell you not to trust someone, don’t.”
“I’m just supposed to accept that you’re alive but not really, and trust the people who kept this a secret from me blindly?”
“Yes. I know how it sounds, but they’re your only allies right now. There’s a lot going on beneath Hawkins, Wayne. It might not be safe for much longer.”
Wayne swallows and takes another step towards Eddie, watching as he flinches and crinkles his nose. “The earthquakes, right? They weren’t just earthquakes, were they?”
Eddie sighs and lifts a hand to his nose, an old tell that he’s clearly brought into whatever new version of himself he’s become. “Just listen to them. Trust them. Please, Wayne.”
There’s a desperation to Eddie’s voice that makes Wayne ache. He steps closer and outstretches a hand, the same one he’d offered all of those years ago when Eddie arrived, scraggly and scared at the trailer. This time though, Eddie takes it.
His hands are still cold, and Wayne brings up his other hand to hold Eddie’s tightly between his shaking, calloused fingers.
His boy’s always just needed a little extra warmth.

something borrowed, something new (dom!steddie x f!reader drabble) (18+)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
in which we learn about the first time steve put a belt in his hands. pre good cop, bad cop, supes early in the dynamic steve is giving heavy daddy dom here.
THIS IS A REPOST, for science. warnings: 18+ minors dni, d/s dynamics (daddy dom energy from steve), spanking (with hands and belt), daddy kink, hard dom energy from eddie, use of rules and regulations, some crying kink (can’t think of the word), mild aftercare.
personally, professionally, i hate this but @rollergirlworld said she liked it so i’m posting it for the steddie girlies. --
“Not in front of Eddie,” you toy with your fingers while you say it. Eddie leans against the frame of the archway leading to the kitchen, crossing his arms so his hands hold his biceps.
“After you were so mean to him? I think he deserves to see you get punished, don’t you?” Steve asks, patting his lap again, “Come on, gotta learn your lesson.”
“Steve…” you whine out, tears starting to pool in your eyes. Your nose burned while the cry built in your throat, “Please, no.”
“Are you embarrassed, baby?” Eddie’s smug smirk deepened the dimples on his cheeks while he spoke, “Don’t want me to see you get a spanking?”
You nod, your face flushed with humiliation. Steve had always admonished you in private when you ‘misbehaved’. His list of regulations stacking up every weekend, making it harder for you to get away with anything unscathed. Steve would help get you dressed before a party, telling you his rules for the night in the mirror — he’d watch your eyes glaze over and your cheeks redden, the soft rock of your hips on the vanity stool.
He cupped your chin from behind you, tilting your head up to look at him, “Do you like when daddy tells you what to do?”
“Mhm,” you responded dumbly, your tongue swelling in your mouth. That burning ache between your legs only getting worse when he pulled you into the bathroom at the party to tell you what a bad girl you were when you got a drink without asking his permission first. Or when you rolled your eyes at him in front of his friends. Little things to get you going, little promises he knew you couldn’t keep. It was just a fun game that you could both turn off at any time.
You huffed at how ridiculous he was being, laying it on thick while trying to pull out of the grasp on your wrist. Steve’s hand found your jaw, turning you to face him, peering down at you, “Do I need to embarrass you in front of everyone here?”
Steve’s eyes would get lust blown at the sound of your whimpering, your quiet, small, ‘Sorry, Stevie. I won’t do it again.’ He’d always take you home after that, barely making it through the front door before your jeans were around your ankles and his mouth was pressed to your neck.
He had only put you over his knee twice before, the first time was only to see if it was something you were both into. It didn’t take long to realize how very much into it you both were. The second was when you had come into Family Video and caught an awful attitude with him in front of Robin while she was ringing out a customer. He was so miffed, that for a split second he thought about hauling you over to the back room.
“Let’s talk about this when I get home later, okay?” he asked sweetly, no one would be wiser, “We can get to the bottom of this bad mood.”
You know what he means and you frown, grabbing the tapes from him roughly before he can bag them for you. You made a big show of shoving the door open to leave, the bell shrilling while it shook only to be over powered by the sound of your car door slamming and your wheels peeling out of the parking lot.
Steve came home quietly. Eddie was at the record store and you had just finished making dinner. He stalked into the kitchen, and while you had calmed down since your Family Video visit, Steve had been fuming about it since.
“Robin was really surprised at your little tantrum earlier,” Steve said, his voice measured, “She didn’t expect you to be such a brat.”
“It wasn’t a tantrum, Steve, don’t be so dramatic,” you snapped back while you placed your serving plates on trivets already set out on the table. He caught your forearm once the ceramic was out of your hands.
“You need to learn to keep your attitude at home when you come to visit me at work,” he glowered, “Think I need to teach you a lesson.”
“Steve, I – um –” your heart hammered in your chest and the feeling of his hand on your arm, the soft tug of him leading you to the couch. You were sputtering and sobbing by the fifth strike against your ass, Steve’s taunts making your cheeks burn more than the skin of your thighs. “Is this what you needed?” he asked, “Needed some of daddy’s attention?”
“Y-yes,” you choked out, your legs kicking and hips shimmying to get away from his assaulting hands. He smoothed his palm over the swell of your backside comfortingly, shushing you. “Almost done, baby,” his voice was soft and apologetic, “Just a few more, okay?”
“C-can we be d-done, now? Please daddy?” you hiccuped and sniffled, looking up and back at him with red rimmed eyes.
“Oh, angel,” he frowned dramatically, sulking his shoulders. He reached out to cup your cheek, “Okay, we can be done.”
“I’m sorry,” you sighed out while he pulled your underwear back up, smoothing it over. He knocked your jeans to the floor before pulling you up right onto his lap.
“I know, it’s okay. I’m not mad at you,” he soothed, pressing a kiss to your temple, rubbing big circles onto your back. He rocked you against him for a moment while you cried into his shoulder before nudging himself in to kiss away the tears on your cheeks. Steve didn’t leave any marks.
It would be the last time that was true.
“I’m not asking again,” Steve’s voice was stern, “Do you want me to put you over my knee, myself?” Eddie snickered, making you freeze up and cross your arms over your chest. Your feet felt planted into the carpet of the living room, you made a noise of contempt but it sounded petulant coming out of you.
Steve sighed, “You showing off? Think this is helping your case?”
You shake your head ‘no’, you know you’re pouting, you know this looks ridiculous.
“One…” Steve starts, the authority in his voice building, you shiver at the sound.
“Steve,” you hiss out, “I’m not a six year old.”
“Two…” he continues, “If I get to three, you’ll regret it.”
“Steve!” you stomp your foot in frustration and Eddie’s eyes flash in your direction. You start feeling small – weak – as both of their gazes harden on you.
“Thr–”
“Okay, okay,” you rasp out in a whisper, taking a step towards Steve. His hand reaches out to tug your flannel pajama pants and thin underwear down to your feet. “Step out,” he instructs. You shake your feet out of them kicking them under the coffee table before he guides you over his lap. You whimper immediately at his hand running over the soft, plushness of your ass. His other arm keeps you tight in place over his other leg, the rest of you partially draped over the couch.
“Give her twenty,” Eddie instructs, “Make it hurt.”
Your head shoots up to look at him, eyes like saucers etched with fear.
“The most I’ve ever given her is five, Munson,” Steve explains softly, his hand still massaging you gently.
“Well, that’s probably why she doesn’t listen to you,” Eddie says matter of factly, readjusting his position on the archway frame. You hear the clink of the chains on his jeans as he does it, “Gotta punish that habit out of her.” Steve’s jaw ticked, chest tightening in what he could only describe as acute rage. He reared his hand back, bringing it hard back down onto your backside – a cry hissed out of you as sharp as the crack of his palm against your body.
“Oh, ow,” you breathe out, tears threatening to flow.
“Count it out loud to daddy, princess,” Eddie says, lifting off the wall and coming around to watch from the edge of the coffee table so he can see your face better. “One,” you whine out. Steve’s hand cracks down again and you grit your teeth to keep from crying, his hand runs over the hot skin while you mutter 'two’ loud enough for them to hear it. Three and four start to build a hot, stinging pain. Five and six have tears blurring your vision, you’re one blink away from them plopping onto the couch cushions.
“Six,” you whisper out.
“You stopped at five last time?” Eddie asked. Steve nodded, raining down a particularly hard spank at the line where your ass met your thigh. He hummed at the wail you let out, watching as your nails clutched into the fabric of the furniture under you.
“S-seven,” you sniffled, still not fully crying. You didn’t want to give them the satisfaction of knowing what they were doing was working. Especially with how much fun they’re having before you’ve even shed a tear.
“Looks like she can take these just fine,” Eddie cocks his head, “Want me to show you how she can really learn?”
Steve looked up at him, “What do you mean?”
Steve was still new to this, but he knew Eddie had been around the way a few times. He’d had all kinds of sex – met a lot of fringe types at The Hideout, some interesting people at the record store. When they first started living together, he’d hear the noises the girls would make in his room. The snaps of what he thought were a whip, the pathetic and whiny 'Yes, master!’ of whatever fishnet clad bimbo Eddie would bring home.
Ed reached for his belt, taking the loose end and sliding it out of the loops, savoring the sound of the metal tinkling as he undid it. He wrapped the leather around his fist expertly, folding the length of the belt until it was long enough to get a nice snap.
“You hold it like this, okay?” Eddie said, showing it to Steve from all sides, “There are other ways too, but from this position, this’ll be enough slack.”
Steve takes the belt from him, matching the way Eddie wrapped it around his hand. He smiled at the feeling of it, strong and unforgiving despite how worn out the leather was. He readjusts his grip on you with his other hand, skating his fingers over your back. You look back at him, your face and body relaxing after a break in the beating.
“Is it okay if I use this to finish?” he asks, you look at the belt in his hand. The veins in his forearms have popped slightly, his hands look strong in the leather, as mouth watering as the watch on his wrist. You nod while you make eye contact with him but he gives you a little nudge with the heel of his hand.
“Is it okay?” he asks again. “Yes, daddy,” you reply, “It’s okay.”
“C'mon Stevie,” Eddie smirks, “Make her pay.”
Steve rears back, bringing the leather down hard on your thighs and the snap of it makes him grin. He feels you jolt on his legs, a high pitched whine pooling out of you like a tea kettle ready to burst.
“Ooh, poor baby,” Steve cooed, “Should’ve behaved, huh?”
He struck down two more times, small welts raising in your skin — color blooming. You couldn’t hold back your tears anymore, the biting sting of the belt becoming too much to bear. You hid your face in your arms to muffles your yelps and whimpers.
“Don’t hear you counting, sweet thing,” Eddie mocked, his giggle stained dark and cold.
“T-ten,” you whine into the cushions. Steve grunts, his erection pressing against your hip while you squirm over him. The belt meets your ass again in quick, biting, succession, you can feel Steve and Eddie’s stares over you.
“Please no more, daddy,” you mumble into your arms.
“What was that?” Steve asked, “Can’t hear you with that pretty face covered.”
You lifted your face off the cushions, puffy and streaked with mascara, “P-please no more, I learned my lesson.”
Steve’s gaze softens at your pained face, teary eyes and swollen lips, “You sure?”
“Yes, daddy. I learned my lesson,” you nodded slowly, turning your face to Eddie, “I learned my lesson, I’m s-sorry.”
Eddie puts his hands on his hips, pondering you, “Normally I don’t let my girls off so easy.”
He walks around the coffee table and squats at the couch so he’s eye level with you. You feel his ring hand come up to push your hair out of your face, smearing the tears on your cheeks away while he does.
“But I think I can make an exception for a sweet thing like you,” he says, his smile is sweeter this time, “I think you’ve just had a long day, you didn’t mean it.”
Eddie moves his attention to Steve who was reluctantly putting the belt down next to him, “You know the best part, Stevie?”
Steve gives him a look with raised eyebrows while Eddie reaches over, taking Steve’s hand and guiding it between your legs, “Girls like her love this.”
You shiver when Steve’s fingers brush your inner thigh, legs opening for him just a bit – the action was involuntary, your body begging to let him in. His reaches further, already feeling a stickiness between your upper thighs – he chuckles. His fingertips dip further up, catching the wetness pooling at your entrance, your folds letting out a soft wet click when he parts your legs further.
“Oh, look at you, princess,” Steve’s voice loses his anger, falling into teasing, “You like getting put in your place?”
You nod, still sniffling while your breath catches. You feel Steve’s first two fingers push into you, the sound of his fingers squelching inside of you making you feel dirty.
“You like it?” Eddie asks, watching you start to pant as Steve quickens his movements to a steady pace.
“Yes, sir,” you gasp out, “I love – I love it.”
Eddie laughs, “Oh Stevie, she loves it!” “Yeah, I can tell,” Steve mutters, feeling your walls tighten around him. Your plush thighs start to close down around his wrist.
“I’m gonna – I’m –” you can barely form a sentence with the pleasure building up in your stomach. “Hold it,” Steve barks, pulling his hand out quickly from your legs – bringing all five fingers, some still soaked in your spend, to come down on your still burning ass.
“Let’s bring this upstairs,” he says, tapping your thighs softly to get you to stand up, “You can get on your knees and show us how sorry you are.” You gingerly get to your feet, Steve following suit so he can steady you. He wraps an arm around your neck to pull you in for a kiss, deep and slow, pulling away to rest his forehead on yours, “You okay? You wanna stop?”
You smile at him, stifiling a giggle at his desperate attempt to be discreet in his sweetness in front of Eddie, “I’m okay, I promise. We can keep going.”
“You’re such a good girl, you know that?” he asks, his amber eyes warm while they meet yours. “Oh, stop,” you blush, pressing a kiss to his lips as a thank you.
“Alright, kids. We can kiss and make up later,” Eddie’s bored voice rings in the living room while he heads to the staircase, “Let’s get this show on the road.”
“Relax, Munson,” Steve bites over his shoulder, letting his arm drop from around your neck to your waist. He lets you get in front of him as you climb the stairs, inspecting the welts and handprints he left behind. The back of his neck got hot at the thought of you being bruised up the next day, something left behind to remind you who was in charge.
Eddie was already sat at the edge of Steve’s bed when you got into the bedroom, waiting.
“You heard Steve, baby,” he said gently, beckoning you over, “Come show me how sorry you are.”
With a little encouragement from Steve in the form of a tap on your butt, you took the handful of steps it was to get in front of Eddie. He eyed you the entire time you got to your knees between his legs, the carpet scratching at your skin.
The mattress dipped when Steve sat next to him, undoing his jeans while Eddie stroked your hair.
Oh. It was gonna be a long night.

Do I wanna know?
Eddie Munson x Steve Harrington
Summary: Somewhere in the multiverse, there is a world where everyone has a choice - If you had the option of reading a list of everyone who's ever been in love with you, would you do it?
Word Count: 2.6K
Warnings: Modern day AU sort of?? It's not based in realism, just go with it. Best friends to lovers, Robin & Steve & Eddie all live together because I said so, mutual pining, fluff, confession of feelings, lots of denial but they figure it out eventually
A/N: This idea came to me during my stats class, and then it became very difficult to continue focusing on my stats class. (I wrote it as soon as we were dismissed lol). Enjoy this cute little Steddie one shot! Ao3 link here :)

“Dude, did you see what they just announced?” Steve asked as he played video games with Eddie.
“Yeah, it’s some wild shit,” Eddie replied. “How is it even possible?”
“I think it’s fake,” Robin called from the kitchen as she made them all pizza rolls.
“Not fake,” Steve insisted. “I was reading about it on the internet and a bunch of people are saying it’s legit.”
“Well, if you read it on the internet, it must be true,” Robin remarked sarcastically.
“Whatever,” Steve said. “I’m gonna get mine and find out.”
The deal was that, somehow, everyone had the option of getting a list of statistics about their lives. It was advertised with a variety of categories to look through - some of them could have been retrieved through bank statements and background checks, like the number of countries visited, money spent, etc. Other categories (let’s be real, the most intriguing categories), were far more mysterious.
Number of near-death experiences. Every book you’ve read, with a total word count. And, the most exciting of the bunch - How many people have been in love with you, and who.
“Don’t waste your money or your time,” Eddie said with a roll of his eyes. “It’s bullshit. Probably just another way for the government to squeeze more money out of us.”
“Come on, it’s not some conspiracy, Eds,” Steve replied. “I’m just curious, that's all.”
“Oh, I bet,” Robin chimed in. “Just be honest and admit you want to know about the love thing. You and your ego, Dingus.” Steve smiled. He couldn’t argue with her.
“As if you’re not also dying to read yours,” he countered.
“I’m pretty sure mine would just hurt my feelings,” Robin said with a sigh. “Robin Buckley - loved by her platonic soulmate Steve Harrington and Creepy Carl from band camp.” Eddie snickered.
“Carl wasn’t that creepy,” he said.
“You’re only saying that because you were also kind of creepy in high school,” she replied. “No offense.”
“None taken,” Eddie responded with a shrug. “But I think I speak for all former creeps when I say we were just socially stunted and awkward. Most of us grew up to be half-decent people.”
“Way to humble brag,” Steve teased.
“I’m bragging by saying I’m half-decent?” Eddie replied. Steve laughed and nodded. Meanwhile, Robin quickly scrolled through her phone until she stumbled across what she was looking for with a gasp.
“Oh my god,” she said. “Creepy Carl’s most recent post is about how the patriarchy is a myth.” Steve laughed again and pushed Eddie playfully. Eddie flopped over on the couch and groaned.
“Dammit, Carl, I was rooting for you!” he joked.
“We were all rooting for you, how dare you!” the three of them shouted in unison.
That was, of course, a reference to America’s Next Top Model, which Robin showed the boys clips of one night during a rant about the toxicity and absolute batshit nature of early 2000s reality TV. That quote, for whatever reason, stuck. They had a lot of inside jokes like that.
This is how life had been for the three of them the last few years. They’d become best friends straight out of high school, then all moved in together. Life was comfortable and nice.
-
Steve somehow convinced Robin that they would both get their lists together. Eddie, on the other hand, downright refused.
“I don’t need any of that shit,” he insisted. “It’s not gonna do me any good, and I’m perfectly fine staying in the dark.”
“Okay, I get it,” Steve said, holding his hands up. “You’re scared and lame, that’s totally okay.” Eddie rolled his eyes.
“Shut up, dickhead,” he replied. “This whole thing is stupid anyway. And - and it’s not like we can seriously trust whatever it says. It’s probably just…all lies, anyway.”
“Yeah, but they’re fun lies,” Robin countered. “It’s like hearing gossip about your own life.”
“Exactly!” Steve agreed. “It’s just for fun.”
“Have your fun, then,” Eddie said devilishly. “I’ll be in my room, not being an idiot.”
Robin and Steve put their names and date of birth into a search engine and, within five minutes, each had their respective documents in their inboxes. Steve opened his immediately and eagerly, skipping past all the boring shit until he found the good stuff.
Number of people who have had crushes on Steve Harrington: 436.
Number of people who have been in love with Steve Harrington: 85.
“Holy shit,” he muttered, looking at the long list of names. He looked up from his phone to see Robin staring at the wall. “Why aren’t you reading?”
“I don’t think I can do it,” she said. “I’m chickening out.” Steve scoffed.
“What? Robs, come on. You already ordered the damn thing.”
“Yeah, but -” She sighed. “But now it’s, like, real.”
“Do you want me to read yours for you?” he asked. She shook her head.
“No, I think I’m just going to keep it unread for now,” she decided. Steve shrugged.
“Okay, if that’s what you want.” Robin scooted herself over on the couch so she could look at Steve’s phone screen.
“Wait, they even have crushes on there?” she asked, her eyes wide. “Jeez, Harrington. That’s quite the list.” Steve smirked, realizing it very much did give him an ego boost. He continued scrolling to see even more categories.
Number of people Steve Harrington has had a crush on: 63.
Jesus, Steve thought to himself. That’s kind of embarrassing. In his defense, some of them were celebrities. He continued reading.
Number of people Steve Harrington has been in love with: 3.
Steve didn’t even have to read the list to know who was on it. He quickly clicked his phone off before Robin could see.
“Hey!” she said. “What was that for? It’s not like there are any secrets between us.”
“No, I just - I’ll read it later,” Steve said.
Robin would usually be right. She was almost completely right. It’s just that Steve had one secret. And it wasn’t even really a secret, it was just something he kept to himself, because it didn’t really matter.
Nancy Wheeler
Robin Buckley
Eddie Munson
He had barely admitted it to himself, honestly. It’s not like anything would happen. Him and Eddie were best friends, and if something was going to happen between them, it would have already happened. Now, they were too close, and living together. It was different. It didn’t matter. Besides, Robin was on his list, and he wasn’t running off to date her.
Steve put his phone away and didn’t check the list again for a couple days.
-
“So, how’s the list?” Eddie asked one morning as he made a pot of coffee. “You haven’t said anything about it.” Steve shrugged.
“It’s like a million pages long,” Robin chimed in. Eddie clicked his tongue against his teeth.
“That’s not surprising,” he said. “It’s a shame Harrington isn’t much of a reader. It might take him years to get through.” Steve glared at Eddie, who grinned in response.
“Are you ever going to stop poking fun at me about that?” he wondered.
“Aaaaabsolutely not,” Eddie replied. “Steve, The Hobbit is 310 pages. 310. Even one page a day you would have been done in a year, and you’re still not done.”
“Okay, listen,” Steve responded defensively. “It’s not my kind of book, alright?”
“He likes the ones with the pictures,” Robin teased. Eddie laughed and high-fived her.
“Wooow, okay,” Steve replied. “I see how it is. I’m just gonna grab my cereal and go, then.”
“Nooo, don’t leave on our behalf,” Eddie said.
“We’re soorrrryyyyyy,” Robin added. Steve chuckled and shook his head.
“Whatever,” he resigned. “I haven’t read the damn list. Not all of it, anyway.” Robin’s ears perked up.
“But you’ve read some of it, right?” she asked. “Spill!”
“Just the first ten names or so,” Steve said. He had gotten a glimpse when he skimmed over it the first time. “I think it’s in chronological order.”
“Anyone surprising?” Eddie wondered. Steve shook his head.
“No,” he said. “Although it did confirm my suspicion that Katie Crystal was into me, after all.”
“I’m thinking maybe I should read mine,” Robin said quietly.
“Yeah, well duh,” Eddie replied. “You paid for it.”
“It’s just - it’s not a big deal, right?” Steve looked at Eddie to survey his reaction. Eddie just shrugged. “It’s like you said, Eds. We don’t even know if it’s accurate.”
Steve didn’t really know if all of it was accurate, but some of it sure as shit was.
“Exactly,” Eddie agreed. “So, Steve, there’s a chance that Katie Crystal actually hated your guts. Who’s to say?”
Steve rolled his eyes. Another few days passed.
Robin flip-flopped between whether or not she wanted to read her list every few hours or so. Steve and Eddie placed their bets on how long it would take her to crack.
Meanwhile, Steve counted his lucky stars that Eddie decided not to buy his list. It was clear that they were bros and nothing more, so Eddie finding out would have made everything incredibly weird.
This was for the best.
-
Things carried on as they usually did, until one day Steve was so bored, he decided to revisit the godforsaken document. Plus, he’d been on a few dates that ended in disaster, and reading about the hundreds of people that were into him was bound to put him in good spirits.
He had no idea just how right he was.
The names were all relatively normal. Steve tended to know when girls had a thing for him, especially back in high school. There were some names he didn’t recognize, which meant that there were total strangers crushing on him. He wondered how that was even possible. Like, at that point, they were just basing it on looks and vibes alone.
Eh. Steve had crushes on people in the past over less. He kept reading.
He made his way down the list until he reached Eddie’s name. He read it again and again to make sure he was seeing it right.
Eddie had said repeatedly that this thing could be total bullshit, though. Steve had to take it all with a grain of salt. Besides, crushes meant nothing. Hell, Steve was pretty sure Eddie had mentioned once that he thought Steve was hot when they first became friends.
Steve made his way to the list of people who’d loved him. None of the names mattered except one.
Eddie Munson.
“Oh, shit,” Steve muttered. “Oh, shit!” He jumped up out of bed and paced the floor. He had no idea what to do with this information.
It could be bullshit. It could be nothing.
Or maybe, Eddie had kept saying it was bullshit because he knew what Steve would find.
“OH MY GOD.”
Robin came bursting into Steve’s room a few moments later.
“What? What’s going on?” she said. She looked to see his phone on the floor and his hands in his hair. “Oh my god, you read it! What was it? What’s got you all freaked out?”
“I gotta - uhh - I gotta -” He didn’t know how to finish that sentence with Robin in the room. He had to find Eddie - that’s what he had to do. But his head was spinning too much to do so.
“That’s it. I’m gonna read mine right now,” Robin decided. She swiftly left to go back to her room while Steve continued to pace.
“Holy shit,” he said to himself. He thought about it for a few minutes, scrawled something on a piece of paper, and then walked down the hall to Eddie’s room.
Eddie opened the door a few inches, still wearing his sweatpants. He hadn’t left his room yet that day, but his guitar was lying on his bed, which meant he’d been practicing.
“What’s up?” Eddie asked.
“I finished the list,” Steve replied. Eddie’s jaw clenched just enough for Steve to notice, and then he shrugged.
“And?” Steve continued to look at Eddie until he broke his composure. He sighed, then opened his door wider. “Come in,” he said.
Steve had been in Eddie’s bedroom a million times. They’d watched movies in there and stayed up all night talking and smoked together and dear sweet lord I am so dumb for never noticing.
“Is it bullshit?” Steve asked. Eddie started spinning the ring on his middle finger anxiously, refusing to make eye contact.
“Uhh, is what bullshit?” Eddie replied. Steve put his hands on his hips and cocked his head.
“Come on, you know what I’m talking about,” he said. “I just - is it bullshit? Tell me the truth.”
Eddie stared at him for a few long moments before gently shaking his head.
“It’s not bullshit.”
Steve’s hands fell back to his sides, and he felt himself get lightheaded.
“It’s -” he began, struggling to find the words. He cleared his throat. “Wow, I uh -”
“It doesn’t matter, though,” Eddie interjected. “Just so you know. I like what we have. We’re, ya know, we’re friends. Roommates.”
“Do you still -?” Steve started to ask. He noticed Eddie’s eyes flooded with fear, a sight he rarely saw. “I mean, do you still?”
“Steve, I -” Eddie began, his voice tired. “I really, uh. I don’t know what to say.”
Steve dug his hand into his pocket and pulled out the piece of paper he’d ripped from his notebook. He held it out for Eddie to take, and when Eddie didn’t reach for it, Steve stepped closer and stuffed the page right into Eddie’s hand.
“Read it,” Steve encouraged.
“What is it?”
“It’s your list.” Eddie’s faced scrunched with confusion. “Yeah, I made it myself.”
“I told you, I don’t wanna know,” he said, trying to give the paper back to Steve.
“Trust me, you do.”
Eddie sighed, then unfolded the paper and read it.
People who are in love with Eddie Munson:
-Me
-(Steve Harrington)
Steve waited and watched Eddie’s eyes travel up and down the page, similar to the way Steve’s had when he read Eddie’s name on his own list. Finally, Eddie looked up.
“Really?” he asked, his voice soft. Steve smiled and nodded.
“Really.”
In that moment, they both knew this changed everything, and yet it changed nothing at all. They’d just skipped a bunch of steps of dating - blown past the getting-to-know-you stage straight into living together and doing all the domestic shit.
Eddie and Steve each stepped toward the other until their hands met.
“OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!”
Robin’s voice pierced through their intimate moment and completely obliterated it. The boys glanced at each other in confusion and then ran out to see what Robin was yelling about.
She was already out the front door by the time they got to the kitchen. If this were a cartoon, she would have left behind a cloud of smoke.
“What do you think that’s about?” Steve asked. Eddie felt his phone buzz and checked it to find Robin had texted a screenshot to the household group chat. He smirked.
“Vicki’s on her list,” Eddie said. Steve chuckled, happy that everyone managed to find their happy ending.
“You know what that means?” Steve asked.
“That you owe me 20 bucks?” Eddie teased.
“Well, that," Steve replied. "But is also means we’re alone in the apartment for a while." Eddie grinned and took Steve by the hand.
“I like the way you think.”
They ran to Steve’s room together, and if the confession of love hadn’t already changed everything, sleeping together certainly did.
It was the good kind of change, though. The kind that moved mountains and cleared all the clouds from the sky.
At last, the idiots were together. All it took was years of denial and one payment of $44.49.

WEDNESDAY
“So they would rather you sleep in a bed with Nancy? ” Steve asks in disbelief as he stacks the returns.
Robin rolls her eyes at him. “Duh. They don’t know I’m of the, uh, lavender persuasion,” she reminds him, lowering her voice with a quick scan of the store.
It’s fairly quiet, especially for a rainy Wednesday during summer break. Just a couple of teens milling about through the stacks, trying to decide on a movie.
“And I’m pretty sure they still think I’m secretly dating you… though they have finally learned to stop asking.”
Robin’s parents had managed to secure a modest cabin by the lake for the long weekend. Steve could never quite get it straight – Robin’s mom’s brother’s wife… or was it her cousin’s husband? Nevertheless, someone who was somehow related to Robin had a cabin they weren’t using, and rather than leave it sitting empty, they had invited her parents to use it. Robin had agreed to go if she could bring a friend or two… which quickly turned into three, because she just couldn’t take Nancy and Steve and leave Eddie all alone for the weekend. And they were all thick as thieves after what happened during spring break.
“Anyway, I thought you’d be happy to be sharing with Eddie,” Robin says, tossing Steve a meaningful look. God, he regrets telling her about his ill-advised crush.
Come Thursday evening, they pack into two cars and drive up to Lake Michigan, looking forward to spending their days swimming and their nights around the fire.

THURSDAY
The cabin isn’t anything fancy – a simple wooden structure tucked between the trees – but it’s right on the lake, has its own small dock hosting a tiny row boat that looks like three passengers would probably capsize it.
Robin shows them around the cabin, pointing out her and Nancy’s room, her parents’ room, and finally, tucked back in the corner behind the kitchen, Steve and Eddie’s room.
Their room is the only one with separate twin beds. Steve isn’t sure if he’s relieved or disappointed.
Everyone leaves to get settled in their own rooms, and Steve stands there with his old sports bag in hand, shifting from one foot to the other.
“So, uh, which bed do you want?” he asks.
Eddie throws himself down on top of the bed furthest from the door, pressing the back of his hand to his forehead. “This one – you can protect me from any evil entities of the night.”
“Unless they come in through the window,” Steve points out, setting his things down on the bed nearest the door.
“Well, shit,” Eddie groans, eyes darting between the window and Steve. “Don’t fucking say that!”
Steve laughs and throws himself onto his own bed, propping himself up on one elbow.
“So, Harrington, do you snore? Tell me now, so I can prepare myself," Eddie says.
“Nah, but I do sleep in the nude.”
Eddie’s smile falters and Steve can’t help but smirk. He doesn’t offer up any more information, letting Eddie dwell on whether or not he was joking.
“I, uh, I sleepwalk, sometimes,” Eddie tells him, and then falls silent, dropping back onto the bed and staring at the ceiling like he might find a script there.
“Should make for an interesting night,” Steve says, trying not to laugh when Eddie’s eyes flick over to him before going back to the ceiling. “C’mon, let’s go see if they need help with dinner,” Steve says, pushing himself off the mattress and holding out a hand to help Eddie up.
It’s still raining after dinner, so they sit around the little fireplace, playing board games and listening to music until it’s time to turn in for the night.
Steve stands next to his bed for a moment, looking down at the pajamas he’d packed. He glances up, but Eddie’s busying himself with removing his rings one by one and setting them down on the nightstand.
Steve strips out of his shorts and t-shirt, hesitating at the edge of his boxers, wondering if it’s worth it for the bit. Eddie’s back is to him. He makes his decision, leaving them on and climbing into bed, arranging the covers to hide his boxers but show as much skin as possible elsewhere.
Just to mess with him.
When Eddie turns back, he lets out something between a yelp and a squeak.
Steve pulls back the blanket with a flourish, watching Eddie’s eyes go wide and then narrow when he realizes what’s underneath.
“You dick.”
“I mean, I usually would sleep naked, but I thought I’d be modest for the sake of my temporary roommate,” Steve says, raising an eyebrow.
Eddie climbs into his own bed, burrowing under the blankets. “Well, don’t change your habits on my account.”
Steve chuckles and turns off his bedside lamp. “I’ll keep that in mind. ‘Night, Eds.”
“Night.”

FRIDAY
Luckily, the rain has cleared up by Friday morning, the sun peaking out from behind the clouds and warming their skin.
After breakfast, they don their swimsuits and head out to the edge of the lake. Nancy and Robin drag out a deck chair and curl up side-by-side, while Steve walks out onto the dock, turning around just before he reaches the end.
“You coming for a swim?” he calls to Eddie, arms spread wide and displaying the expanse of his chest.
Eddie plops himself down on a towel next to Nancy and Robin. “Are you kidding? The water’s freezing.”
“Whatever, you big chicken!” And with that, he turns around and dives, cutting through the surface of the calm water.
Eddie sits back and watches the gleam of Steve’s back as he slices through the water with ease, years of swimming making him more graceful in water than on land. It’s mesmerizing.
“You might wanna pick your jaw up off the ground,” Robin quips, looking at him over the frame of her sunglasses. “Once you’re done ogling, I mean.”
Eddie huffs, shaking his head. “What? No! I’m not – Steve’s just–”
Nancy leans around Robin to fix him with a dubious look. “Oh please, don’t even deny it.”
“This is bullying. You’re bullying me,” Eddie accuses, crossing his arms over his chest. “Two against one isn’t a fair fight.”
He doesn’t hear what Nancy says next, because there’s a disturbance out in the water. Steve has stopped swimming smoothly and seems to be thrashing, struggling against something they can’t see, trying to get back to shore.
Eddie’s throat closes up with panic.
He jumps to his feet, shouts out and points, and Robin and Nancy are on his heels as they run out to the end of the dock.
Just like that fateful night on Lover’s Lake, Nancy doesn’t hesitate. She jumps in and swims towards Steve, methodically, uniform strokes spurring her forward. She reaches him quickly and pulls him the rest of the way to the shore.
He’s sputtering and shaking, on all fours as he reaches the grassy edge of the lake, and Robin’s right there beside him, wrapping him in a towel, pushing his hair back out of his eyes, speaking to him in soft, calm, hushed tones.
Eddie stands to the side, heart racing, chest tight. He feels useless, a spare part, unsure whether to come closer or give them space. All he can do is watch helplessly, a cruel parallel of when Steve was pulled through Watergate. Flight or freeze, never fight.
Coward.
Robin is placing Steve’s hands flat on the earth, helping him ground himself, still babbling away about where he is and what is going on around him. Eddie is in awe of how she always knows what Steve needs in these moments.
“The vines… grabbed me,” Steve mumbles, breathing fast and shallow. Robin drapes herself against his back, contrasting with deep and slow breaths, pressing a hand to his chest.
“Steve, we’re at Lake Michigan. No gate here, we’re not even in Hawkins,” Robin reminds him again, patience of a saint. “We’re safe, we’re safe, I promise you, we’re safe. It was just a plant.”
“Nancy –”
“– pulled you out of the water, she’s right here,” Robin says, pointing her out.
“And Eddie –”
“– is also right here, he’s fine. You’re fine. We’re all fine.” Robin turns to Nancy and Eddie. “Can you help me get him up? I’ll take him inside, give him something warm and something sugary, it should help with the shakiness. And then he’ll probably need to sleep for a while when he comes down from this.”
Eddie swoops in to support one side of Steve and the three of them hoist him to his feet, leaving the lake behind them.
Steve’s voice drifts through the darkness later that night. “Hey, Eds, you awake?”
“Yeah.”
“I can’t sleep.”
“Me neither.”
There’s silence for a while, not awkward, but comfortable. Until Steve breaks it.
“Can I… would it be alright if I laid in your bed for a bit?”
Eddie nods before he realizes Steve can’t see him. “Yeah, of course.”
There’s a rustle, footsteps, and then the mattress next to him dips as Steve slides under the blankets. Heat radiates off his chest.
It’s a small bed, so they don’t have much choice for positions. Eddie ends up curled around Steve’s back, an arm thrown around his waist to stop himself from rolling off the edge.
“This is nice,” Steve whispers, wrapping his fingers around Eddie’s wrist and pulling him tighter around him. Steve takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly before speaking again. “Is it weird if I say I was kind of hoping we’d have to share a bed this weekend? I just… I hate sleeping alone.”
Eddie chews on his bottom lip for a moment. “Don’t you usually sleep alone?”
“Yeah.”
Steve doesn’t expand on his answer, doesn’t offer anything more. They lie there pressed together, letting their breath synchronize.
“I’ve never really slept with anyone before,” Eddie admits quietly, not sure if Steve is even still awake.
Steve turns around awkwardly, trying to keep Eddie’s arm wrapped around his waist as he rolls over to face him. “Like… sex, or just actually sleeping next to someone?”
Both, but he feels a bit stupid admitting the first one to Steve Harrington, renowned lady’s man. He’s heard enough rumors to know the guy gets around. And, well, Eddie isn’t exactly spoiled for choice in Hawkins, Indiana.
“I mean, I've had sleepovers and shit, slept next to people but… never, I dunno, cuddled?” The last part comes out as a question, like he isn’t sure if that is actually what they’re doing.
Steve moves closer then, right up in Eddie’s face, tucking his own arm around Eddie’s waist. “And do you like it? Cuddling?”
Eddie’s not sure if it’s embarrassment or the body heat coming from Steve that makes his face feel so warm. “I, uh, I think so.”
“Well, maybe you need a bit more experience to make sure,” Steve says, mischief in his voice. And with that, he rolls onto his back, pulling Eddie with him so he face-plants right onto Steve’s bare chest. Two solid arms come up to wrap around him, one landing between his shoulder blades and the other settling in the dip of his lower back. Steve buries his face in Eddie’s curls and hums.
Eddie shuffles a bit, turning his head to un-squish his nose from Steve’s pec. The hand between his shoulder blades moves up to card through his hair, fingertips pressing deliciously into his scalp and sending tingles all the way down to his toes.
Eddie’s head is spinning, overwhelmed by the smell and feel and sound of Steve all around him. He yearns for all of this to mean something, but he’s seen Steve with Robin – how close they get, how easy it is for Steve to throw an arm around her and pull her in for a hug, press a kiss to the top of her head or tip of her nose, how they cuddle up on the couch when they watch a movie. And they make sure everyone knows that it’s strictly platonic. So why would this be anything different?
He can enjoy it for tonight, though, so he burrows back down into the hair on Steve’s chest, tracing the line of muscle underneath with his finger. He feels Steve shiver and shift, run his hand back down Eddie’s neck and trace over each vertebrae of his spine through his thin t-shirt, getting slower and slower until his hand slips from Eddie’s back completely, coming to rest on the mattress behind him as his chest rises and falls, even and slow, dozing off.
Eddie presses soft, barely-there kisses to the skin beneath his lips for what feels like hours until his eyes droop and he, too, drifts into sleep.
When he wakes, Steve is gone and he can hear the shower on. He grabs the pillow that still smells like Steve and buries his face in it, pretending it’s only to help ease the crick in his neck.

SATURDAY
“I don’t know what else to do, Robin!” Steve whines, exasperated. “If I get any more forward with my flirting, I’ll just be straight up asking him to blow me.”
Robin wrinkles her nose at him before going back to applying sunscreen to her legs. “Why don’t you just ask him out, like a normal person?”
“I don’t know how to do that with guys, Robs, much less one who’s my friend!”
It’s true, he knows how to hit on girls he barely knows, asks the odd guy in a gay bar to go out back with him. But Eddie? It’s different.
“Why are you being so difficult? Go inside right now and say, ‘Eddie Munson, would you like to go on a date with me?’ That’s it!” Robin hisses.
Steve flops down onto the wooden dock, squinting up at the sun. “This coming from the girl who took three months to ask out Nancy Wheeler.”
Another voice drifts over, drawing nearer. “Yeah, but at least she actually fucking did it.” Steve turns his head to the side and shields his eyes, watching Nancy sit down next to Robin and dangle her toes into the water. “Steve Harrington, stop being a big baby and just go ask him.”
He sticks his tongue out at the both of them and reaches down, cupping some water in his hand before flinging it towards the girls, spraying them with the cold water of the lake.
- - -
At first, Eddie can’t figure out what woke him. He takes stock of his body - he doesn’t need a piss, he’s not too hot or cold, he doesn’t think he had a nightmare. So he turns his attention to the room, and that’s when he hears it.
It’s too familiar of a noise for him not to figure it out immediately, especially when paired with heavy breaths coming from the other side of the room.
Oh.
He cracks open an eye, and the room’s washed in cool, dim light from the moon outside the window. He can just make out the outline of Steve, lying on his back, hand moving rhythmically under the covers. His head’s dropped back, mouth open slightly, neck stretched out like it’s begging to be bitten.
Eddie feels arousal rush through him and he squeezes his eyes shut again, trying not to move or draw attention to himself. He doesn’t want to make this any weirder than it already is.
But he can’t stop himself from hearing it.
There’s a sharp inhale, followed by a string of little ‘ah-ah-ah’ sounds, and then –
Eddie must be dreaming, or hallucinating, or maybe he died in the Upside Down and this is his eternal torture, because he swears it, there’s no mistaking it – a long groan followed by “Eddie.”
He can’t help but peek over, sees Steve grab a handful of tissues from his nightstand and clean himself up, tuck himself back into his boxers and roll over, facing the opposite wall.
Eddie’s ears are burning, his mind on a loop, playing those sounds and Eddie, Eddie, Eddie over and over again.
He wants to scream, wants to sing, wants to go jump in the lake, wants to run back to Hakwins, wants to climb into Steve’s bed and grind against him. Shit, there’s a thought.
He adjusts his pajamas, hoping Steve doesn’t hear the creaky springs. He wills himself to calm down, but his dick has other ideas, aching for relief.
Eddie glances over at Steve’s bed again. He’s quiet now, breathing slow and probably sleeping. And hey, if Steve did it, why can’t Eddie? Fair’s fair and all that.
Slowly, carefully, he rolls onto his left side and reaches his right hand down the front of his pants. Fuck, he’s so hard and he can still hear Steve’s voice ringing in his ear. His breathing is shaky and he keeps glancing back to check that Steve’s still not moving.
But Eddie’s never been good at staying quiet, muttered swears spilling from his lips as his breath comes quicker. He manages to swallow Steve’s name, biting his lips together and exhaling sharply through his nose.
“Eddie?”
He freezes. This isn’t the chorus of whispered Eddies in his head… this is a question, and it’s real.
Steve’s awake.
He debates not even answering, just pretending to be asleep, but then he hears the other bed creak and Steve’s feet hit the floor, like he’s about to cross the room and check on him. So he turns his head.
“Yeah?”
Steve’s sitting on his bed facing Eddie, both feet on the floor like he was about to stand. “Were you… touching yourself?”
“No, I –,” Eddie starts to lie, but it sounds weak even to his own ears. “Sorry.”
“Don’t be.”
Eddie doesn’t know what to say to that, what it even means. Steve reaches for the lamp and switches it on. If he looked good in the cool light of the moon, he looks incredible in the warm wash from the lightbulb.
“You can keep going. If you want,” Steve offers. His tongue darts out to wet his bottom lip and Eddie wants to feel it sweep across his teeth.
He doesn’t take his eyes off Steve as he rolls over and takes himself in hand once more, looking for any sign that Steve was kidding or pulling some kind of sick prank. But all Steve does is watch him back, eyes darting down to Eddie’s hand moving under the sheets.
“You – can you move the covers?” Steve asks, his voice pitched slightly higher than Eddie’s used to hearing.
Eddie tries to push them down with his free hand, kicking with his feet to pull them down past his hips, but they just tangle and twist instead. And then Steve’s standing, crossing the short space between them and reaching out for the sheets.
“Can I–?”
Eddie nods, and Steve slides his fingers under the edge of the blanket. Steve’s knuckles brush against Eddie’s stomach and he can’t help but shiver at the sensation, thinking of where else he’d like Steve to touch him.
The night air is cool after the heat that had built under the covers, and Steve kneels at the foot of the bed, still watching like he’s mesmerized. Eddie slows his movements, props himself up on one elbow.
“Steve.”
Steve’s eyes snap up to his, pupils blown and mouth slack.
“Just – fuck – c’mere,” Eddie whines, and Steve doesn’t hesitate. He darts forward, hovering over Eddie’s body, one hand cradling the side of Eddie’s head.
Eddie surges up, kisses him hard and messy, and Steve dips down to meet him. Eddie feels a hand close over his own, tightening the grip and urging him on faster.
“Jesus Christ, Eddie,” Steve pants against his lips, and Eddie thinks that his name in Steve’s mouth is the prettiest sound in the entire world.
Eddie can’t stop his hips from bucking up into both of their fists, desperate and aching. “Fuck, fuck, Steve… bite my neck?”
“What?”
“Bite my neck,” he repeats, dropping his head to the side to get his point across.
Steve ducks down, licks and sucks and grazes his teeth along the sensitive skin there, but he doesn’t bite. And Eddie’s getting close.
“You can… you can actually bite, like, with teeth,” Eddie manages, and that seems to do it, because the next thing he knows, he feels Steve’s teeth sink into the flesh of his neck, just beneath his ear, and his tongue sweeps over to soothe the marks no doubt left behind.
Eddie slings his free arm around the back of Steve’s neck, holding him there, letting him nip and lave in turn until Eddie’s gripping the sheets and biting back a shout as he comes over both of their hands.
“Shit,” Eddie breathes into Steve’s hair, arms drooping over the edge of the bed like wilted flowers. “Holy shit.”
“Shit,” Steve agrees. “You okay?”
“Fucking fantastic, actually. You?”
Steve laughs softly. “Pretty damn good. Sorry for waking you.”
“Oh, you are wholeheartedly forgiven,” Eddie says. Not that he was mad about it in the first place, but Steve doesn’t need to know that.
“I’ll just, uh…” Steve stands and makes a move towards his own bed. Eddie catches his wrist.
“You don’t like sleeping alone, right?”
Steve shakes his head.
“So sleep here. With me.”

SUNDAY
When Eddie wakes up, the sun is shining through the window, brightening the room. The sounds of voices and dishes drift in from the kitchen, along with the smell of bacon. His stomach grumbles.
Eddie tosses on the first some-what clean clothes he can find, gathers his mess of frizzy curls up in a bun and heads out the door, ready to eat a frankly disgusting amount of breakfast.
Robin’s parents are just rinsing their plates when he arrives, getting an early start out on a hike up the edge of the lake apparently. He slides into one of their vacated seats, grabs a plate and loads it with pancakes and bacon before dousing the whole lot in syrup.
It isn’t until he shoves the first huge bite in his mouth that he realizes Robin and Nancy are staring at him bug-eyed and slack-jawed.
“What?” he asks, through a mouthful of food.
They both shake their heads frantically, Robin throwing a look at her parents who are busy discussing whether or not it might rain later. Steve shifts uncomfortably in his seat.
Everything is quiet apart from the sound of Eddie’s fork scraping on the plate and Mr and Mrs Buckley’s voices, until they tell them all they’ll be back in a couple hours and close the door behind them.
“What the actual hell!”
“Jesus Christ, did you get attacked by a vampire?”
There’s an explosion of shouting from both Robin and Nancy, while Steve doubles over laughing.
Eddie’s baffled. “Fuck are you talking about?”
“Dude! Your neck!” Robin says, handing him a large metal spoon.
He moves it around, trying to get the right angle, and finds a massive, distorted red and purple splotch on his neck. His eyes immediately fly to Steve, who is just managing to get his giggles under control.
“Hey, man, don’t look at me. It was your idea,” he says, sipping some coffee from his mug. “I was just following orders.”
“Ew,” Robin says, pushing her plate away. “Way to ruin my appetite.”
“Bullshit, Buckley, you were done anyway.”
Eddie raps his knuckles on the wooden tabletop, drawing their attention back to him. “Uh, you’re all acting suspiciously cavalier about this.”
Robin and Nancy glance at each other. “We had a bet going,” Nancy says. “About how long it would be until it happened."
Eddie gapes at them, not even sorry that he still has some half-chewed pancakes in his mouth.
“I am gonna insist you cover that up before my parents get back, though,” Robin says. “I don’t wanna deal with their awkward questions about where you got it.”
“God, I hate you all,” Eddie says, piling more pancakes and bacon onto his plate.

another one for the requests ^^
a steve and johnathan friendship please. will and el seeing steve as their older brother along with johnathan, hopper and joyce treating steve as their own, and johnathan and steve just overall having a good friendship. (pre-relationship steddie with eddie getting jealous of johnathan because steve just recently came out to the Party as bi, and jancy broke up weeks before it, and none of the others - except robin ofc - know why steve is spending a lot of time at the hopper-byers' house)
I AM TEAM STEVE AND JONATHAN BEING FRIENDS!!! They both did shitty things, and just as real humans do, they figured it out and made themselves better. I'm also team Eddie is incredibly jealous of any other man who gets Steve's attention. This request was unexpected and fun and I liked being able to explore Jonathan a bit more. Thank you!!! - Mickala ❤️
-------------------------------------------------
If you asked Steve where he thought he’d be a year ago, his answer wouldn’t have been this.
Sitting on the Byers’ couch, running his hands through Jonathan’s hair while he cried.
Steve has practically been living at the Byers home for a month, Joyce insisting he join them for dinner so often it just got easier to come over after work every day and spend the night when he had a few too many beers with Hopper.
Will had quickly become his second favorite kid, only behind Dustin, tied with Max.
He was shy, but Steve loved the way he lit up when he talked about things he cared about. He was so excited to show Steve his new campaign ideas when he came over, and even though Steve only understood about 10% of what came out of his mouth, he couldn’t help smiling at him the entire time.
But his friendship with Jonathan was most surprising of all.
Even Robin was getting jealous.
But it was different with Jonathan.
Especially when he broke up with Nancy.
It wasn’t ugly, there was no big argument, and there truly were no hard feelings between them.
But Jonathan was hurting and Steve was there.
And no one knew the post-breakup with Nancy Wheeler hurt quite like Steve.
But that was weeks ago, and Steve kind of expected things to be going better than they were.
“It’s not even that I’m upset she’s going! I’m glad she’s going. That’s why I broke up with her. I’m just also sad that it has to be like this,” Jonathan sniffled against Steve’s lap.
Nancy left for Yale today. It wasn’t her first choice, but it was the best option for her major out of the offers she got. Everyone had gotten together to see her off, even Jonathan, and it looked like he’d held off the breakdown as long as he could.
“Hey, it’s understandable to be upset. You loved each other and it’s hard to see that final goodbye. Up until now she was still hanging out with all of us so it didn’t feel real, now it does.”
Jonathan sighed and closed his eyes.
Steve smiled down at him.
“You’ve got time to figure out what you’re lookin’ for, man. It’ll get easier to be without her.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
Steve was startled when the door opened, Will excitedly talking with Eddie, who’d been driving him back after Hellfire for two weeks now.
“Hey Will, hey Eddie,” Steve said with a small wave, one hand still occupied with playing with Jonathan’s hair.
“Hey Steve!” Will exclaimed.
Will kept talking to Eddie, but Steve noticed he wasn’t paying attention.
He was glaring at Jonathan.
Steve looked down to see if Jonathan was glaring at him, or for any explanation of what was happening.
But Jonathan’s eyes had closed again, his face not quite smiling, but more relaxed than it had been for most of the evening.
When Steve looked back up at Eddie, he was looking at the floor, brows furrowed and a frown on his face.
“Uh, Will, I’m gonna head home. I’ll see you on Saturday, though?”
Will looked dejected, and Steve hated it.
“Oh. Okay. See you Saturday,” he said, walking out of the living room to get to his room.
Steve saw red.
“What the hell is your problem?” Steve asked Eddie.
“What?” Eddie had the audacity to look shocked at being called out for his suddenly shitty behavior towards Will.
“Will was talking to you and you just blew him off.”
Jonathan sat up now, his eyes burning a hole through Eddie.
Jonathan and Eddie got along fine, they weren’t close friends or anything, but they seemed to get along when they all hung out in a group. But Jonathan was incredibly protective of Will, way more than Steve even, and if Eddie was being rude to him, Jonathan would make sure he knew he wasn’t going to let it happen.
He was a chill guy until you messed with Will or El.
Then again, so was Steve.
“Uh. I.”
Jonathan stood up and walked over to Eddie. He didn’t look angry yet, not like he had the potential to be, but he didn’t look pleased.
“Get your shit under control, man. It’s not what you think. Will doesn’t deserve you acting like that because you’re jealous.”
Which made no fucking sense to Steve, but he decided to let Jonathan handle it.
Eddie’s wide eyes watched as Jonathan left the room, probably to check on Will.
Steve stared at him from the couch, not sure what to say.
“Um. I’ll go. Sorry,” Eddie said awkwardly, which is something Steve wasn’t used to.
Eddie was never awkward, always bigger than his body in ways Steve didn’t think possible. Unapologetically loud, fun, a spitfire.
So seeing him like this made him hesitant to believe he meant any actual harm towards Will.
“Hey,” Steve stopped him. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, man. Um. Just tell Will I’ll call tomorrow.”
And then he was gone.
Steve knew better than to follow; Whatever was going on with Eddie would be fine by tomorrow.
Will, however, may be truly hurt and upset.
Steve walked down the hall quietly, not wanting to interrupt Jonathan and Will if they were in the middle of something.
He heard their voices speaking so softly. That should have been a sign to turn around.
But then he heard his name.
“He didn’t mean anything by it, Will. He had a jealous moment because of Steve and took it out on you. I’m sure he’s sorry.”
“Why was he jealous of Steve?”
Jonathan sighed.
“You know how Steve just came out a couple weeks ago?”
“Yeah.”
Steve was about to fall through the wall just to hear where this was going.
“Well, Eddie’s had a massive crush on him for damn near a year now. And he got his hopes up that Steve might feel the same when he came out, which is fine. It’s a natural reaction, you know that. But he also knows that I broke up with Nancy and spend a lot of time with Steve and you saw how he was comforting me when you got home. To you, it looks like just brothers helping each other, but to him, it probably looked a little different.”
“What, like you two are together? Gross.”
Jonathan laughed.
“Yeah, I know. But I can see how he would think that. And you and I both know it hurts when someone we love doesn’t return our feelings.”
Steve’s head was spinning.
Eddie having a crush on him felt like something Jonathan was making up just to make Will feel better.
Just when he was turning around to go back to the couch and figure out what the hell he was feeling, El came out of her room.
She froze when she saw him.
She looked towards Will’s bedroom door, then back at Steve.
He silently begged her not to say anything, and luckily, even without reading his mind, she seemed to know what he was asking.
She nodded and walked along to the kitchen, where Joyce was finishing up dinner for all of them.
“So, do you think Steve likes Eddie? Or is Eddie gonna have to feel terrible forever?”
“Will, you’re not gonna feel terrible forever.” Steve couldn’t hear if Will said anything, but the silence only lasted a moment. “But I think maybe Steve does and just doesn’t realize it. Or maybe he does and just doesn’t think Eddie feels the same. Don’t know how since he literally makes heart eyes at him every chance he gets.”
They both laughed and Steve felt unbalanced, like the next breath might knock him over.
If they were right, if Eddie had feelings for him, then he could see why he was so upset finding Jonathan’s head in his lap earlier.
“Boys! Dinner!” Joyce yelled from the kitchen.
Steve jumped and quickly walked to the kitchen so Jonathan and Will wouldn’t know he eavesdropped on their conversation.
He was quiet through dinner, which wasn’t too unusual. He answered questions when he was asked, asked El about her next girl’s night with Max, asked Will about his campaign.
But Jonathan kept looking at him like he knew.
He got out of there as soon as he was done helping with clean up, saying he was tired and needed some rest before his opening shift tomorrow.
El and Will gave him a hug, Joyce kissed his cheek, and Jonathan followed him out.
That wasn’t what he wanted.
Jonathan stopped him at the front door, hand on his arm.
“Steve. Will’s okay. Don’t be too hard on Eddie, okay?”
Steve just nodded, then gave Jonathan a quick hug before leaving.
He drove home in silence, only his thoughts keeping him company.
—---------------
He talked to Robin because of course he did. She would know what to do.
“Dingus, this feels pretty black and white to me. You have confirmation he likes you. You just spent 20 minutes telling me how amazing he is, which means you like him. He isn’t gonna make a move if he thinks you’re with Jonathan, and he’s valid for thinking that, by the way. You two are freakishly close. You have to do something.”
Steve knew she was right, but he hated when she was right, and he didn’t want her to be right.
“But what if Jonathan is wrong? Maybe he just thinks that’s why he was upset.”
Robin stared blankly at him.
“Steve. Ask Eddie out or I am gonna jump off the cliff at the quarry. God, I cannot with you two.”
Which led Steve to believe Eddie had been talking to Robin about him and caused him to spiral again.
But Robin ignored him and said she wouldn’t talk to him about anything except work until he grew a pair and talked to Eddie.
—--------------------
He was standing outside of the Byers house, here for dinner again, but Eddie’s van was parked outside, which was weird.
It’s not that he wasn’t welcome, Joyce always invited anyone who needed to eat.
It’s just that Hellfire was supposed to be right now, at Eddie’s house, which was not here.
But he was here.
Jonathan opened the door, trash bag in hand, and smiled when he saw Steve standing there.
“Oh, you’re here! Everything okay?”
Steve nodded.
“You sure?” Jonathan started to look concerned. “If you need to skip, I’m sure Mom will understand. She knows you’re working a lot.”
“No, I’m good. Uh, need me to take that out?”
“No, I got it. You go inside, say hi to everyone.”
Steve had no choice but to do what he said.
Something felt off.
And when he walked into the living room to see El and Will sitting on the floor with Eddie, everything felt off.
“Steve!” El yelled, jumping up and running over to give him a hug.
Will followed behind, not quite as enthusiastic, but smiling all the same.
Eddie waved from the floor, small smile on his face.
Steve hated whatever was happening, not because Eddie was here, but because Eddie was never like this around him. He was usually easygoing and tactile, not quiet and awkward.
“Is that Steve?” Joyce called as she walked into the living room. “Hi, honey! Can I have your help with something for just a second?”
“Of course.”
He followed her back into the kitchen, ignoring the way his stomach was in knots at the idea of having a family dinner with Eddie here.
“So, Eddie’s having a rough day, and we invited him for dinner. His favorite is lasagna, so that’s in the oven. Will told me his favorite dessert was brownies, but the texture just isn’t right on these. I’m worried they won’t cook right. Can you take a look?”
Steve wasn’t exactly a baker, but he dabbled in it. His specialty was homemade brownies.
He tried not to let his mind linger on why Eddie was having a rough day, and followed Joyce to where the brownie mix sat in a bowl, which was a very pale brown color.
He knew without even tasting it what was wrong, but he didn’t want to make Joyce feel bad, so he stirred it a bit and then dipped his finger in the batter.
“Ah. Needs cocoa powder,” he said with a smile.
“Of course! I can’t believe I forgot that. Could you get that taken care of?”
And then she was gone.
So, Steve handled it.
He found her cocoa powder, added it in, then took another taste.
This was his recipe. He’d given it to her a while ago, but she’d joked that she couldn’t possibly do his brownies such a disservice.
Whatever was going on with Eddie must be bad.
Then Eddie walked in the kitchen. Alone.
Just as Steve was licking his finger to make sure it didn’t need any more sugar or salt.
They stared at each other for a moment, both their eyes wide in surprise.
“Brownies? What’s the occasion?” Eddie finally asked.
“Uh. Joyce said they’re your favorite?”
“They are. But why does that matter?”
“Uh. She said you were having a bad day.”
Eddie’s face was red.
“Oh. Um. I just had a doctor’s appointment is all.”
Steve’s heart stopped.
“Is everything okay? Are you hurt? Are you sick? Did they find something wrong?”
Steve was closer to him, his hands hovering over his body like he could sense if something was off.
“I’m okay,” Eddie smirked. “Just had to do a lot of tests and I’m sore now. Nothing wrong, though.”
“Good. That’s good,” Steve supplied, his hands dropping to his sides uselessly.
“Yeah. Good.”
Whatever was happening here sucked. Steve hated being like this with Eddie.
He thought about what Robin said, about what Jonathan had told Will.
“You wanna go out with me sometime?”
Steve was an idiot. Truly. Just spitting it out like that, no warning, not even sure if Eddie actually did like him.
“What?”
Eddie looked like he was five seconds from passing out.
“Like on a date?” Then Steve stopped. Eddie would have said yes if he really liked him, right? He wouldn’t have hesitated. “Yeah, I mean, it’s cool though, if not. We don’t have to. Just an idea. I mean Jonathan said-”
“What did Jonathan say?”
“He said you liked me, and he’s just trying to be a good friend and help me out, maybe he was just making sure I didn’t feel bad for liking you so much, I dunno-”
Eddie’s lips were on his.
Eddie’s lips were on his.
Holy shit.
“You’re not with Jonathan?” Eddie asked without pulling away completely.
Steve shook his head.
“You don’t like Jonathan?”
Steve shook his head again.
“You like me?”
Steve nodded.
“Then yeah, let’s go on a date.”
Steve suddenly heard cheering from just outside the kitchen.
He pulled away from Eddie and turned to see Joyce and Jonathan standing behind a clapping El and Will.
“You guys are the worst,” Steve said, running a hand over his face.
“Are we? You never would’ve made a move on your own dude,” Jonathan said, giving him a high five before swiping his finger through the brownie batter.
“I was gonna!”
“When you were 50 maybe!”
Everyone was laughing when Hopper walked in the front door.
“What’s so funny?” His gruff voice thundered through the living room and kitchen.
“Eddie thought Steve and I were a couple,” Jonathan said. “Fixed it, though. Now they’re together.”
Hopper looked between all of them, shook his head, then started heading to his bedroom to change.
“I don’t know why I ask,” his voice could be heard as he walked away.
“So, where are you taking me on our first date, Stevie?”
“How about we let Jonathan pick since he wants to meddle so bad?”
Jonathan laughed.
“This was all mom’s idea. She was tired of the pining.”
“You should go get milkshakes!” El said.
“And then go to the drive-in!” Will added.
“Not a bad idea, actually,” Steve said, turning to Eddie. “Sound okay to you?”
“Yeah, but first, bake these brownies. Your brownie recipe is my favorite.”
“You’re my favorite,” Steve replied.
Everyone groaned.
“Oh, now it’s gonna be worse,” Jonathan joked, shoving Steve’s shoulder playfully.
“So much worse,” Eddie added with a smile.

God Only Knows
If you should ever leave me Though life would still go on, believe me The world could show nothing to me So what good would living do me?
Tumblr media
You sighed deeply and looked at yourself in the mirror after you washed your face. You hated parties. This was probably the last place you wanted to be tonight. All you wanted to do, was get some pizza, watch a movie, and cuddle with your boyfriends. But, the Byers were back in town and wanted to share that they were moving in together with Hopper and Eleven. So, they invited everyone tonight for a dinner party at their new home. You thought you would be able to handle it since it usually wasn’t a lot of people. But, it seemed that more people than you actually expected were here. You walked out of the bathroom and started looking for your boyfriends but couldn’t find them anywhere. You figured Eddie was probably outside, smoking, hopefully not with his kids from Hellfire and far enough so Hopper wouldn’t see him. You knew he wouldn't give the kids any, but, again, you knew he wasn’t Hopper’s cup of tea. And Eddie wasn’t the most careful with his little drug lunchbox sometimes. And you had absolutely no idea where Steve was. Even if it wasn’t as much as before, you knew he still loved a party from time to time. And even more when some people from high school who still idolized him were there.
“Hey, hun-” you jumped a little when you heard Robin coming towards you. “Have you seen her?”
“Um, who?” you asked confused.
“Vickie” she said, freaking out. “I invited her tonight and she said she would come but she’s still not here and now I’m freaking out because maybe I shouldn’t have asked her out. I mean, what if I misinterpreted things? What if she just said yes to be polite but she didn’t really want to come and didn't know how to tell me or-”
“Uh, Robin” you stopped her rambling.
“Yes?”
“Vickie just walked through the door” you said, pointing in her direction where the redhead smiled and waved at the two of you.
“Oh my God. I didn’t think this through. I mean, I never thought she would actually come. What do I do?”
“Just… go say hello” you encouraged her. “You’ll be fine” you tried to assure her.
“Okay” she said taking a deep breath. “Wish me luck” she smiled.
“Good luck” you told her. “Wait” you said, pulling her back. “Have you seen Steve? Or Eddie?”
“No, sorry” she said, before walking away from you. You sighed and walked over to the living room, sitting on the couch. Hopefully one of them would find you, but someone else did first.
“Hey, dude” you looked up to see Jonathan’s friend, Argyle. “Why the long face, man? You want some pizza?” he asked, sitting down next to you.
“N-no, thanks, I’m good” you smiled politely at him.
“Your loss man” he chuckled. “Hey, why are you wearing that guy’s jacket?” he asked. “You know, the pretty boy, with the big hair?”
“Steve?” you laughed.
“Yeah” he said, taking a bite of his pizza.
“How do you know this is Steve’s jacket?” you asked, curiously.
“Oh, he wears the real shit man, not like El’s little boyfriend who wears the shitty knock-offs” he explained, making you laugh a little.
“Well, to answer your question, I was cold so he lent it to me” you said, pulling it closer to you. Steve’s smell helped you calm down a little.
“How come you don’t use your boyfriend’s jacket? He wears like three of them” he asked confused.
“Um… Steve is my boyfriend” you told him.
“Wasn’t your boyfriend the other guy with long hair? The cool one that plays D&D and shit?”
“Eddie?” you asked.
“Yeah! That guy’s so awesome, man” he said, making you chuckle.
“Yeah, Eddie is my boyfriend too” you explained.
“No way” he said, surprised. “So, the three of you are like… together?”
“Yeah” you said, a bit nervous. You knew this wasn’t exactly something that everyone just accepted.
“That is so cool” he said, genuinely. “That is like… three times the love, man” he smiled, making you sigh in relief.
“Y-yeah, something like that” you smiled back at him.
“Well then, more power to you” he said, raising up his pizza as if he was making a toast.
“Thanks, Argyle” you replied. “Um… I’m gonna go see if I can find either one of them” you said, getting up. “You haven’t seen them by any chance?”
“Nah, but if I do I’ll let them know to look for the girl in the nice jacket, ‘kay?”
“Thank you” you said before walking away.
You started walking through the crowds of people, making your way to the kitchen. Everything was beginning to be too much. The noise, the people, not finding either one of your boyfriends. You knew what was coming. But this was a happy night and you didn’t want to ruin it. So, you figured, maybe a glass of water would help. You got even more anxious when you noticed how much your hand was shaking.
“Hey!” you heard, making you accidentally drop your glass when you turned around to see Jonathan. “Whoa, sorry, love” he said, walking over to you and grabbing some paper towels to dry up the water. “Didn’t mean to scare you” he said.
“N-no, it’s fine” you smiled weakly, grabbing the plastic cup and tossing it in the garbage. “It’s uh a great party” you told him.
“It wasn’t supposed to be this big” he told you. Jonathan knew you since you two were kids. He knew you weren’t comfortable in these kinds of situations. Especially when there were so many people that you didn’t know around you. “But… you know, a lot of people were happy to see that Hopper was back and-”
“Oh, I’m sure that a lot of us are also happy that you, your mom, Will, and El are back” you smiled at him. “Also, Argyle is pretty cool” you said. “So, how come you’re hiding out here with me and not with Nancy? I figured you two have a lot of time to make up for” you said.
“I don’t know” he said, placing his hand behind his neck. “I guess we still have some things to figure out” he said.
“You two will be fine, John” you assured him.
“How do you know?”
“Because you two are like meant to be” you laughed. “You love each other and in the end, that’s what matters. I mean, look at me, I’m making it work with two people who couldn’t be more different” you chuckled, making him laugh too.
“Yeah, how’s that going?”
“Pretty good, actually” you admitted. “It would be better if I had any idea where they were” you said, starting to feel anxious again.
“Oh, I think I saw Eddie outside with Dustin and Will. I can go get him if you like-”
“You should be going to look for Nancy” you said as he started walking out of the kitchen.
“Can’t hear you, I’m already gone” he yelled before leaving and Joyce came into the kitchen after with Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Wheeler, and Mrs. Sinclair.
“Oh hi, honey, what are you doing hiding here?” Joyce said, kindly, walking over to you. “Are you alright, sweetie? Steve was looking for you out there” she told you.
“Y-yes, I just came to grab a glass of water” you said, nervously.
“Oh, that’s right, you’re dating Steve Harrington now” Mrs. Wheeler said excitedly. “He is so handsome, you two are such a cute couple” she told you.
“Uh- right um-”
“Wait, you’re dating Steve? Dusty said Eddie was your boyfriend” Mrs. Henderson asked confused.
Great. The only one that actually knew you were dating both of them was Joyce because she had always been like a mom to you. Especially after your parents didn’t exactly approve of your relationship.
“R-right w-well, actually” you stuttered, nervously. You knew this was a delicate subject, especially with adults, since it wasn’t seen as a conventional relationship. “I uh- w-we’re u-um-”
“Honey, could you please go get Will for me? He’s outside I think” Joyce interrupted. “I’ll just talk to Claudia, Sue, and Karen really quick” she said, escorting you out the kitchen door.
“R-right, thanks, Joyce” you said, quickly before leaving the kitchen.
It started again. Your hands were shaking and your breathing became quicker. This is the main reason why you hated going to parties. People still didn’t accept the fact that you, Eddie, and Steve could all be in a relationship. It wasn’t bad when they were with you, they were pretty much the ones who would explain something and just tell people to fuck off if they made some unpleasant comments. But when it was just you, you never really knew how to handle it, since the last time you tried was with your parents. And they ended up throwing you out of their house.
“Hey!” you heard someone calling your name and then saw Max walking over to you with Lucas and Will. “Are you okay?”
“M-Max-” you said, trying to take a deep breath but your eyes were already watering.
“Lucas, go get Steve” she said, turning to him and then Will. “You go get Eddie” she instructed. “I’ll take her up to Eleven’s room” she said and the two boys nodded before they went their separate ways. “Come on” she said, taking your hand and guiding you upstairs.
Soon enough you were sitting on Eleven’s bed, trying to calm yourself down with Max’s help. It wasn’t long before the door burst open and Steve ran in with Lucas behind him.
“Love, I’m here” he said, kneeling down in front of you and taking Max’s place.
“S-Steve-” you said, as he placed your head between his hands, making you look at him.
“I’m here sunshine, look at me” he said, softly. “It’s okay, I’m here with you.”
“Princess!” Eddie’s voice came inside the room, Will, Dustin, and Jonathan behind him. “Shit, do you know what happened, Red?” he asked Max.
“No, she just came out of the kitchen that way” she explained.
“Thanks” he nodded. “We got it, guys, can you give us a minute?” he asked, looking at the rest of them.
“Is she gonna be okay?” Dustin asked, concerned.
“Yeah” Eddie assured him. “We just need some space” he smiled nervously.
“Take all the time you need, man. Let’s go, guys” Jonathan said, pushing the kids outside and closing the door behind him.
Eddie then came over to kneel in front of you, next to Steve.
“Hi princess” Eddie said, placing one of his hands on your cheek, and Steve removed his. “We’re here” he said, feeling Steve’s hand holding his free one, knowing how much it broke Eddie’s heart to see you like this and that he was probably going to blame himself. “We’re both here. You’re okay, love” he said soothingly.
“Can you take deep breaths for us, sunshine?” Steve said as Eddie started taking deep breaths so you could follow his lead. “That’s good, sweetheart, just like Eddie’s breathing” he instructed.
“That’s it, love, in” Eddie said, taking a deep breath. “And out” he guided you. “You’re doing a great job, honey” he said, smiling when your breathing started slowing down.
“There you go, sunshine” Steve said, softly, moving his hand to stroke your arm instead and Eddie did the same.
“I’m s-sorry” you said, between sobs.
“No, none of that, love” Eddie said, softly. “You have nothing to apologize for, okay?” he said, wiping your tears away.
“Can we hug you, sweetheart? What do you need us to do?” Steve asked, still stroking your arm with his hand.
You grabbed Steve’s hand with one of yours, and Eddie’s with the other one, trying to stand up.
“Hey, hold on, easy, princess okay?” Eddie said, holding you by your waist and guiding you down.
He and Steve sat next to each other with their backs against the bed and he gently placed you between the two of them, creating a safe bubble, wrapping his arm around you and Steve did the same.
“There you go, sunshine” Steve said, kissing the side of your head as Eddie kissed your cheek on his side. “We got you” he repeated.
“You’re safe, princess” Eddie whispered as you started playing with his rings.
“I’m s-s-”
“No, love, no apologizing” Steve said, brushing your hair away from your face and kissing your temple.
“B-but I s-scared y-you two, a-and Max, and Lucas, and D-Dustin, and W-Will-”
“Don’t worry about them right now, love” Eddie assured you. “They just wanted to make sure you were okay” he insisted and you nodded softly.
“What happened, love?” Steve asked, ignoring Eddie’s frowning at him. “Take your time. We just want to know how to help you, okay?”
“N-nothing happened” you said. “It was s-stupid-”
“No, love, it’s not” Eddie assured you.
“It was just all… kind of too much” you started, still playing with Eddie’s hand, not being able to face them. “It was too many p-people a-and I couldn’t find either one of you” you continued, making Steve and Eddie share a guilty look. “I w-was fine for a while, talking to Argyle and then Jonathan” you continued. “B-but then, Joyce came in the kitchen with Mrs. Henderson, and Mrs. Wheeler, a-and Mrs. Sinclair” you said, trying your best not to start crying again. “A-and Mrs. Wheeler asked if I w-was dating y-you” you said, nodding your head towards Steve. “B-but then Mrs. Henderson said she w-was confused because she thought I was d-dating you” you said, pulling Eddie’s hand. “S-so I just d-didn’t know how to explain that I w-was dating both of you, and then Joyce told me to g-go but I s-still couldn’t f-find you a-and I just-” you stopped when your breathing started picking up again.
“Shh, it’s okay” Steve said, tightening his arm around you.
“It’s okay, princess” Eddie said, kissing your head again. “You wanna go home?”
“N-no” you said, looking up at them. “Y-you two are having fun, a-and-”
“Don’t be silly, sweetheart” Steve said, kissing your forehead. “There’s no way we could have more fun here than just the three of us back at home” he assured you. “We can do whatever you want” he offered.
“R-really?” you asked, sitting up, looking between them and the two of them nodded. “C-can we read Lord of The Rings?” you asked with a small smile.
“Again-?” Steve started but stopped when Eddie smacked him on the back of the head. “Yes, of course, we can, sweetheart” he smiled, kissing your cheek.
“Whatever you want, princess” Eddie smiled, kissing your other cheek.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
“Was Dustin really okay? He sounded really scared. And Max, she was so helpful and I didn’t mean to-”
“Love stop” Steve said, walking over to you and sitting on the bed. “They were just a little worried. They care about you. And you know Henderson sees you like a big sister, but I promise you they were fine. They’re coming tomorrow for movie night” he insisted. “And I just called Joyce to let her know we were home and that you were feeling better” he said, bringing you a cup of tea and his yellow sweater and one of Eddie’s boxers so you could change into them. “You have nothing to worry about, okay?” he said, giving you a small peck on the lips.
“Thanks, love” you said, kissing him again.
“I’ll be right back, sweetheart” he said and you nodded as he left the room and went looking for Eddie, who was basically turning the living room upside down looking for his book.
“Is not here” Steve heard him mumbling to himself. “Shit!”
“Eddie?”
“Is not here! I can’t find the fucking book! Did you move it-”
“Love, calm down, I’m sure it’s here somewhere-”
“It’s not!” he said, knocking down the books on the shelf next to him. “I can’t- I can’t find it! I put it down there for a second and-”
“Eddie” Steve said, walking closer to him and grabbing his hands to make him stop spiraling. “Look at me, love” he said, softly. Eddie sighed and turned to look at him reluctantly. “She’s okay” he said.
“She had a panic attack, Steve-”
“I know, but it wasn’t your fault-”
“Yes, it was! Henderson wanted to show me something and she said she was going to the bathroom and… I, I thought she had found you and stayed with you or something- I should have waited for her! We know she hates these kinds of events, there were so many people there. So many fucking judgemental people and I left her by herself-”
“Stop” Steve said, placing his hand on Eddie’s cheek, softly. “I know, okay? I feel horrible too that she was alone, but we got there in time. And she found Max, Lucas, and Will. Joyce saw she was uncomfortable so she sent her away and she made sure she was okay before we left. She has people that care about her and she knows we do too. She knows we love her. She knows you love her. She’s okay, Eddie, this wasn’t your fault-”
“But-”
“No buts, she just wants us here with her and that’s what we’re gonna do, okay?”
“I just…” Eddie sighed sadly.
“I know” Steve said, giving him a peck on the lips. “I know, love” he said, hugging him closer.
“Eddie?” you said, standing at the door to your bedroom.
Eddie quickly wiped away his tears and pulled away from Steve.
“Yes, princess?” he said, clearing his throat.
“I found the book” you smiled weakly, holding it in your hand. Eddie smiled back and walked over to you, giving you a kiss on the lips.
“Lead the way then, gorgeous” he said, grabbing your hand and bringing it to his lips, making you smile.
“Are you coming, Stevie?” you asked.
“I’ll be right there, sweetheart” he smiled and Eddie pulled you to the bedroom.
Eddie sat on his side of the bed and you curled up next to him while he looked for the marked page.
“So, where were we-?” Eddie asked but he suddenly stopped and placed the book on his nightstand and sat up, grabbing your hand. “Princess?”
“Love?” you smiled, sitting up as he looked at you.
“Y-you know that I love you right?” he asked all of the sudden. You frowned your eyebrows in confusion and smiled sweetly at him.
“Of course, I know” you said. “I love you too” you smiled.
“It’s just… I don’t- um… I didn’t mean to leave you alone tonight and-”
“Eddie” you said, placing your hand on his cheek to make him look at you. “What happened to me wasn’t your fault” you assured him.
“But I was with you and I just… I don’t want you to think like you can’t trust me or that I won’t be there for you I just-”
“Whoa, Eddie, I would never think that, love” you assured him, not noticing that Steve was now standing at the door. “You and Steve are my favorite people in the world. You two always make me feel safe and comfortable and happy and loved and… even if it was a little scary for a moment, I have never doubted that you and Steve love me and would be there whenever I need you” you smiled.
“Yeah?” Eddie asked, still feeling a little guilty.
“Yeah” you nodded. “I mean, you let me choose the music on the way back home and Steve let me choose reading Lord of the Rings” you chuckled, looking back at Steve, who rolled his eyes and went to sit on your other side. “If that’s not love, I really don’t know what is” you smiled as Steve wrapped his arms around your waist and Eddie laughed a little. “I love you” you said, grabbing Eddie’s hand and pulling him towards you to give him a kiss on the lips. “Both of you” you said, turning to Steve and giving him one as well.
“Me too” Steve smiled, resting his head against yours and looking back at Eddie.
“Me three” Eddie said, grabbing the book again before he linked his free hand to your sand Steve’s. “Ready?”
“Oh, almost, hold on” Steve said, pulling away and pressing play on the boombox on the floor. You and Eddie smiled when you heard the song that came on as Steve came back, kissing your head.
“Thanks” you whispered, kissing his cheek.
“Now we’re ready” Seve told Eddie as he started reading with the music in the background.
“Okay… let’s begin” Eddie said, kissing your head before returning to the book.
This was your absolute favorite place in the world. Lying here with Steve and Eddie felt like the safest spot on the planet. Where nothing could hurt you. It was just the three of you and you wouldn’t have it any other way.
I may not always love you But long as there are stars above you You never need to doubt it I'll make you so sure about it God only knows what I'd be without you
The End

Big Steddie and obviously I’ve been reading 500+ ficlets and they have been plaguing my brain. Needless to say, I decided to write something and it is 100% made up of ideas from across lots of fics. Plus it’s Steddie Omegaverse week and I’m a hopeless sap for omega Steve/Alpha Eddie.
Be warned: this is not proof read.
Also, the baby’s name is the same as the one from Junos Steddie Dads even if the fics are not of the same premise. He is just the one that made me first obsess over this pairing in the first place.
Day 6 of Steddie Omegaverse: pregnancy
Omega Steve has been a Streamer since he dropped his title in high school. After babysitting Dustin - who watched his favorite streamers and would non-stop talk about them- he began to stream. Originally, it was just for fun. Then three years after high school, he announces his move to LA with his best friend Robin and a few others. Overtime, his reaction and drama takes became more and more popular - even more popular are the videos and streams his platonic soulmate Robin joins him. While he wasn’t the most famous streamer, he was well known.
After being cleared of falsely accused murder charges, Alpha Eddie moves to LA and is quickly followed by Gareth Jeff, and Freak. Eddie picks up working nights at bars and eventually convinces the owners to let his band - Corroded Coffin - play. One night a producer sees them and recognizes their talent pretty quickly. They get signed and are suddenly doing tours and interviews and releasing new albums.
Those who follow Steve’s channel and those who are fans of Corroded Coffin know that Steve and Eddie have mates. Eddie gushes over his omega in interviews and shows a sweet side of him not seen in concerts. Steve talks about toxic-alphaism and how his alpha proves that people can be alphas without being a dick. What their fans don’t know is that they are mated to each other.
It started as Steve wanting to protect Eddie from his stream fans after all the traumatic spotlight Eddie went through in Hawkins. But when Corroded Coffin popped off it became a game to see how long it would take their fans to notice.
But no one noticed that Steve played the acoustic, non lyrical versions of Eddie’s songs played in the background of all his streams. And no one noticed that Eddie’s tour breaks lined up with the same weeks Steve takes off of streaming for his heat. When someone in chat points out that him and Eddie have the same last name, Steven shrugs and says they must be related through marriage somewhere in their family. People definitely don’t notice the same Dustin that runs a popular Corroded Coffin fan account also runs an equally as popular Steve fan account.
One day on an interview, Eddie announced that Corroded Coffin is taking a break from tours for a couple of years. When asked why, he announces on live tv that his omega is pregnant. Everyone is so excited but are disappointed when Eddie says that he isn’t telling who his omega is.
“It’s on his terms when he wants to come to the public eye and I respect that” Eddie says already knowing that Steve is very much in the public eye, just in a different way.
That same night, Steve streams and announces his pregnancy with Robins help. Chat goes wild and Steve laughs saying that he’s not going to put his mate on blast until his mate is ready to be seen. It’s the same excuse Eddie uses and one they have agreed have used several times.
Eddie is in interviews less and less as he and Steve prep for their baby to be born. Steve, however, posts more videos and streams more about baby things and no one notices that his mates voice in the background sounds a lot like Eddie Munsons.
They both say in their own ways that they aren’t going to discover their baby’s gender until they are born. They don’t want to put pressure on who their child is before they are even born.
People only begin noticing and connecting the points when they both post the same photo announcing the birth of their new baby girl Bobbie. And if it’s a photo of Eddie hugging Steve and Bobbie shortly after she was born, that’s okay too.

I
I saw the sweetest thing on Reddit some time ago and I need to share with you! It was a girl telling that her boyfriend got a brain lesion and got into a coma for a week, so when he woke up he had to learn how to speak correctly all over again. The doctor was doing an exercise with him and she was there to know how to make it at home, the doctor says a word and the guy has to give a synonym or a definition of it, so he says "happiness" and the boyfriend points at her and says her name, the doc says "no, that's not right" and the guy was pouting not know why it was incorrect. Can you imagine this with Steddie? Initially I thought this with Eddie being in a coma after the S4 events, but I came to think of Steve in the boyfriend place because of his many head injuries, thinking he got one very hard and was out like light.
This ask really got me 🥺🥺🥺
I think this would make more sense if this happened after an hypothetical final battle! So, Eddie survives S4, gets together with Steve, they defeat Vecna but Steve gets badly injured (shocking) and gets into a coma.
The situation would be very tense, Eddie would blame everyone (for letting Steve taking too many hits in the head in the past) then himself (for not being able to protect him).
Robin and Eddie can only be around each other while they wait for Steve to wake up. They argue over the smallest things, but also laugh just by looking at each other at random times of the day. By the fifth day of being best friends and archenemies back and forth, they mutually agree they’re going crazy.
The worst part is that, in order to stay by Steve’s side, Robin pretends to be his girlfriend and Eddie his cousin, so the doctors tell everything to Robin first - another reason for their arguments. She’s the one who takes care of Steve, Eddie is nothing.
When Steve finally wakes up, things get better. They’re able to see him right away, he seems confused and unable to speak properly, but an exchange of looks is enough for Eddie to understand that Steve remembers him, and that he’s glad they’re both alive.
Once again, the doctors explain to Robin that Steve will need to do speech therapy multiple times a week, and exercises at home once he will get discharged.
“I’ll do it!!” Eddie jumps in immediately.
“That is very nice of you” the doctor says, but he sounds unconvinced “but I’m sure Robin here would be a better fit. We need someone that Steve trusts deeply, this is a delicate situation.”
Eddie knows that the doctor his talking like this just because, in his eyes, Eddie is just a cousin and Robin is the girlfriend, the one Steve loves. Maybe it’s the tiredness, maybe it’s the weird competitive dynamic he has developed with Robin, but he feels useless. In the end, why would Steve need him when he has Robin? When Eddie was supposed to protect him and wasn’t able to.
“Oh no, I think Eddie would be a better fit” Robin replies, getting two pair of surprises eyes on her.
“What? It’s true! I have to work - you know, since Steve won’t be able to for a long time” she adds, to save the appearances “and he trusts Eddie, they’re extremely close.”
When they get out of the hospital that night, Eddie hugs her impossibly tight. They stop fighting after that.
The speech therapy is challenging, Steve gets frustrated easily and Eddie can’t blame him: the doctor is very strict with him, gives him the hardest exercises and, for someone who does it for a job, he has too little patience in his opinion.
“C’mon Steve, last one of the day” the doctor shows him one of his card “happiness. Give me a definition or a synonym.”
Sometimes it takes him a few seconds before he can answer, but this time Steve lights up and points immediately at Eddie, saying his name out loud.
The doctor sighs “no Steve, h-a-p-p-i-n-e-s-s. C’mon, I know you can do it!” He tries with a little encouragement.
Steve huffs, points again and says “Eddie!”
Eddie, after the initial surprise, has to look away to hide his watery eyes from the doctor.
He only turns back when he hears the doctor getting out of the room.
Steve is pouting and looking down at his feet. Eddie melts.
“You did great sweetheart, don’t worry” he dares to come close since they’re alone in the room.
Steve looks unconvinced, still pouting. Eddie can practically hear his self deprecating thoughts, he knows him well enough.
He notices the doctor left his cards on the table. He lifts up the ‘happiness’ one in front of Steve, giving him the time to read it.
Eddie points at him “Steve.”
Steve blinks a couple of times, stunned. Eddie waves the card, points at him once again “Steve,” he repeats, firm.
Now it’s time for Steve to have watery eyes.

I Have Nothing (If I Don't Have You) (Steddie X You)
Tumblr media
A/N: Like I said last week, I was watching the music video for "Queen of the Night" by Whitney Houston from the soundtrack of this movie and it gave me this Steddie idea.
I have a few ideas I can take this! I seriously love protective Steddie. Probably something to do with my PTSD and need to feel safe lol Anyway... I hope you enjoy it! I dedicate this to @unfocused81 <3
Warnings: No smut (yet😈) but angst for sure. Security Steddie and Singer female reader. It is mentioned that Y/N does drink excessively and do drugs. Her boyfriend is a douchebag and assaults her (mentions of smacking and grabbing her, yelling at her, and calling her names) that results in Steddie intervening. There is also a bit of a riot at one of shows that they protect her from (kind of like that scene in the movie where people jump on stage and chaos ensues).
I wouldn't really call this dark themes but reader definitely has some things going on and is struggling a lot right now.
Work count: 5906
“What kind of security work have you guys done before?”
Your manager leans against the outside of his desk as he continues to scan through the messages on his phone.
“Oh, um, we’ve done a lot before for the bar in our town and most recently a rock band in—”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.”, the manager cuts Steve off as he speaks. “That’s all well and good. Look, I’m going to level with you. This is essentially expensive babysitting. Y/N is a handful. Our last security detail quit when her last party at her house caused a riot in the streets of LA.”
“A riot?”, Eddie turned to his friend and raised an eyebrow inquisitively.
The guy sets his phone down, sighing with impatience. “Yes. Obviously, you two don’t read or watch the news…which is good. Saves me the headache. Now, do you want the job or not?”
Both boys glance at each other before looking towards the man again. “Um, yeah sure. I mean it pays, right?”
“That’s the spirit. Ok, she’s at the studio downstairs right now recording…or at least that’s what she’s supposed to be doing. Go introduce yourselves. Glad to have you aboard.”, he rolls his eyes as he shoos them out of his office.
“Steve are you sure about this?”, Eddie asks as they head for the elevator.
“Yeah. Come on, Munson. This is our ticket to high-rate clients and more money! We can handle one little girl.”
As soon as they get off on the right floor, they are met with extremely loud music and giggles from the studio room. A tall, lanky kid leans back in his chair extending his hand to greet both boys.
“Hey, are ya’ll the security? I’m Devon. She’s in there ‘getting inspired’.” Their eyes follow his finger as he points behind the glass where you and some of your friends were strewn around the floor. “Good luck, gentlemen.”, he sings.
Both men carefully tip toe around arms and legs to find you with your eyes closed, a half smirk painted across your lips.
“Uh, Miss Y/L/N? I’m Steve Harrington and this is Eddie Munson. We’re your new personal security guards.”
“Hmm…sounds sexy.”, you slur. Your glassy, drug fueled eyes look up to meet theirs. “At least Jack hired some good-looking ones this time. Who is who?”
“Maybe, if you stood up and actually greeted us, you would have heard who is who the first time.”, Eddie chided.
Your eyes fully open as your head tilts in his direction. No one ever had the balls to scold you like that since you became famous. It was usually “Yes ma’am” this or “Anything you want, ma’am. We’ll make it happen.”. Rising to your feet, you fully take them in through your haze.
They both were attractive especially with that air of confidence you hadn’t seen in a long time. Your current boyfriend was cocky but definitely not confident. Everyone else around you seemed so fucking timid and you hated it.
“Eddie. Steve.”, Steve repeated, pointed to his friend then himself.
He was dressed head to toe in what you would call “conventional” clothes; nothing designer or anything to make him stand out. You could tell under the button up white, short sleeve shirt that he did have muscles that could protect you physically if need be. The jeans and sneakers he donned didn’t give you any new information that could tell you something about him except he probably didn’t make a whole lot of money.
Eddie was more or less the same with a much more grunge fashion sense that, to you, he pulled off well. You pointed to his Metallica t-shirt with your finger.
“My music isn’t like theirs. It might make your ears bleed.”
“As long as I can still see you and see you’re safe, I think I’ll survive.”
He’s quick witted. I like that…
“Ok. We’ll give it a try. Tomorrow, you’ll meet me at my house and I can tell you more about what you’ll be doing.”
***
“Steven Harrington, have you read half this stuff?”, Eddie sighs as he leans forward and places his elbows on his knees as he points at things on his laptop.
“She’s been arrested twice; once for possession and another for disorderly conduct where she was found having sex with someone while she was drunk in public. The cops have been called to her house multiple times due to, honestly, take your fucking pick. Her boyfriend was arrested just last week for sucker punching one of her fans for ‘getting too close’. How are we supposed to protect someone who invites all this chaos into her life.”
“I don’t know, Ed. The same way you protect anyone I guess.”, Steve leans back on the couch as he takes a sip from his bottle of beer. “Again, this is just a steppingstone. I’m sure after a few months of handling her, any number of high value agencies will want to hire us. WHICH MEANS…”, he glances towards Eddie. “…you need to control your Dom voice.”
The metalhead chuckles as he leans back as well. “It’s going to be hard with a fucking brat like her. Dude, she didn’t even have the common courtesy to say hello.”
“I know… I know… but just, try. For me?”
#########
It takes you awhile to open the door when they knock but when you finally do, you look completely hung over.
“Yeah, come…come in. Do you want something to drink? Jack? Vodka? I have them all.”
“It’s 10am.”, Steve responds as he looks at his watch.
You raise an eyebrow at him before heading for the kitchen and grabbing the whole bottle of Jack Daniels. “If you’re boring, Eddie. Just say that.”
“Steve. I’m Steve.”
“Right now, I don’t care—”
“We can tell.”, Eddie growls.
You blink as you look up at him. You’ve never wanted to toy with a man so bad in your life. He wasn’t even trying to hide that your disrespect was bothering him and honestly you couldn’t get enough.
“I’m sorry, gentlemen. I don’t do mornings. Unfortunately, my manager insists on scheduling interviews for me that require me to up at this ungodly hour.” They watch you as you slump onto the couch and throw your arm over your eyes. “So, how much did Jack tell you?”
“Uh, just the basics. We watch out for you.”
“Good. It’s just following me around and making sure I don’t get swarmed or murdered. I’ll give you guys a key to my house before you leave today and when I stay at hotels I’ll do the same. You’ll most likely be staying in the same room as me anyway so…”
The sound of banging on your front door makes you cringe. “I guess I’ll get it.”, Eddie sighs as Steve’s eyes follow him. “Your makeup people are here, your highness.”
A big grin spreads across your face as you turn your head to look over at them. “I like him. Steven, you need to start stepping it up or he’ll become my favorite.”
The metalhead lazily glances towards his friend with playful wide eyes. “Well, lucky me.”
***
As snotty as your attitude was, they couldn’t deny how beautiful you were especially after your prep team was done putting you together. The makeup hid all damage you had done to yourself the night before and the outfit they had you in sexily showed off all your curves. Your eyes shifted to them, watching them as they looked around.
“No one is going to shoot me in here, boys.”
“Hm. You never know.”, Eddie exhales as he points to things. “Someone could come in through that back door behind you or because no one checks any of these people’s IDs, someone could sneak in pretending to be a hair stylist and take you out like that.”, he snaps his fingers.
“Bags that hold all the beauty and camera equipment are big enough to hold even a rifle let alone a handgun. That’s implying someone would want to shoot you instead of stabbing or blowing you up.”, Steve followed.
“Wow. Just charming.”
“It’s our job, Miss Y/L/N.”
“I think due to the circumstances you can call me Y/N.”, you grin.
The producer gets your attention, walking you through the questions that would be asked and how the interview would go. The boys watched you in amazement as your personality practically changed when the camera went live. No one would ever be able to tell what you did behind the scenes or any other narrative then the one you provided.
An hour later and after many questions, the interview ended and your face fell.
“God, I need a drink.”
“Can we at least go over the tour first?”, your manager whined.
“Baby!”
You excitedly got up and ran to your boyfriend’s arms. “Simon!”
Everyone in the room cringed at the heavy smacking sounds that left you two as he continued to sloppily kiss your lips.
“Who are the new guys?”
“Babe, these are the new security guys. This is Eddie and Steve.”
They stand up to shake his hand but as Steve extends his palm the man looks down at it like the gesture was beneath him. “Yeah, listen boys, hands off, okay? She’s mine.”, you giggle as he slaps your ass.
“Come on, baby. I got a surprise for you.” You squeal as he lifts you over his shoulder and carries you towards your bedroom.
“Y/N! We still have things to go over!”, Jack shouts as the door closes loudly.
#########
“I want to go home, Steven. It’s 2am and they’ve been fucking in there all god damn day. At this point we shouldn’t have a client anymore because he killed her by not giving her any food or fucking water. It definitely won’t be due to her climaxing because I haven’t heard that happen yet.”
“We can’t leave until he does.”, Steve sighs. “Or she dismisses us for the evening.”
As if on cue, Simon saunters past them into the kitchen, casually opening your fridge, and begins chugging from a jug of orange juice. “Um, I’m pretty sure you two can leave. She’s not even here.”
“What?!”
“Yeah, I’m assuming she climbed out the window after I crashed. She does that to escape the security teams. It’s kind of a rite of passage honestly.”
“Where would she go?”, Eddie growls.
“Um, there’s a bar about a mile up the road. She likes to walk there for some reason.”
***
“So, pretty lady. Do you want to come back to my place tonight?”
“Ugh, no. Get off me. I just want to drink in peace.”
“Oh, come on, honey.”, the man slurred.
“Hey! The lady said no.”, Steve’s voice echoed through the bar as he starred the man down. “Leave. Now.”
The patron held up his hands defensively, staggering back towards his table.
“Come on, Y/N. Time for you to go home.”, Eddie motioned for the bartender to stop serving you as the other boy reached into your purse to pay him.
“You’re my security. Not my fucking dad. I can stay here and drink if I want.”
“You’re at a bar in a nightie, shorts, and flip flops at 2 in the morning. It’s a safety concern.”
“Oh shit.”, you giggle. “I am in my nightie.” Steve roughly grips your arm and tugs you out the door towards his car. “Let me go, you fucking dick.”
A switch flips in the man’s brain; he can’t help it. For the past couple of days, he’s tolerated your disrespect but like Eddie, he hated it. They both could handle a lot but you were pushing them too far. Still holding onto your wrist, he twirls you towards the vehicle till your back hits the door.
“Now, listen here because I’m only going to say this once. We’ve handled the tone and the blatant disregard for what we do but it ends now. Our job is to keep you safe not fucking babysit some spoiled, rich washed-up singer. This is the last time you pull a stunt like this; do you understand me?”
Steve’s body was so close to yours you could feel his angry breath fanning your face. It had been ages since someone put you in your place like this and you’d be lying if you didn’t say you were a bit turned on. A new feeling washed over you though as your eyes scanned his face. For the first time since you entered this industry, you actually felt safe.
They weren’t afraid to be blunt with you which compared to everyone else in your life was a nice reprieve. You knew 90% of the people in your life, given the chance, would sell you out in a heartbeat but would still stand there and tell you how perfect you were.
“Yes.”
“Yes, what?” Eddie’s voice startled you, completely unaware he was standing beside you with his hands in his pockets, glaring down at you with those same angry eyes.
“Yes, I understand.”
“Good. Now get in the car.”
#############
That following morning, they half expected to be fired but were surprised when you opened the front door as soon as they knocked.
“We have to go to the studio first and then I have to get ready for the gig tonight.”, you mumbled as you swished around them, trying to get in the backseat of his car to no avail. “Can you open the door…please?”
Eddie caught it in your tone first…something wasn’t right and it had nothing to do with them.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Can we just…”, you gesture towards the car.
“HEY! When you get back tonight make sure it’s with a better fucking attitude!”, Simon yells from your front door.
“Well maybe I won’t come back, you free loading mama’s boy!”
“Stupid bitch should learn how to talk to a man.”, he muttered under his breath as he slammed the door shut.
Steve and Eddie exchange a look before the metalhead speaks to you. “Is that something we need to handle?”
“No. He’s just being a fucking prick.”
He opens your door and you slowly slide in before both men do the same. As the car begins to move, Steve keeps checking on you in his rearview mirror. Your sunglass covered eyes remain focused on the window as you stare out into the California streets.
“I’m sorry about yesterday. About leaving and keeping you guys out late when you didn’t have to. Simon just pissed me off and…”
“Does he talk to you like that often?”
“No. Sometimes he’s an asshole.” You flash them a sassy smirk that grows when you see Eddie try and hide his own at your sarcasm. “He’s just…hot headed, you know? He’s been through a lot.”
“And you haven’t?”
Your eyes swivel to Steve before glancing down at your hands. “Nothing I can’t handle.”
“He shouldn’t be talking to you like that, Y/N.”
“Yeah, well, neither should I so…”
“Just because you have an attitude doesn’t mean you deserve to be treated like trash. Maybe you just need someone stronger who can handle it and not take it personally.”
“Oh? And who would that be, Steve? You?”
“Aw, Munson, that’s cute. She thinks we can’t handle her.”
“Y/N, sweetheart, we’ve dealt with worse than you.”, he smiles as he turns around in his seat. “It’s you that can’t handle us. Thankfully though we aren’t in a relationship so we’ll never get to find out.”
“I never say never, gentlemen.”
****
After going over the tour dates, everything you would be doing, and everything you need, your next stop was the venue you would be performing at tonight.
Eddie cringed as the feedback of the mic echoed around the building.
“Hey! Try plugging it into the correct port!” The young man shrugged his shoulders causing the metalhead to go over and show the boy what he was doing wrong.
“Let me guess? Rock and Roll drummer in a Metallica cover band?”, you grin at him as the mic starts picking up your voice perfectly.
“Guitarist and our own band, not a cover band.”
“What about you, Steve? Are you musically inclined?”
“Unfortunately, no.”
“What are you good at?”
“Babysitting.”, he raised his eyebrow in your direction making your smile grow.
As the additional security from the venue finally arrived, you watched with fascination as the guys took on a more authoritative tone, telling each person where they would need to be. Time slowly dwindled till it was about twenty minutes before the show. You began pacing as you shook out your preshow jitters.
“Hey, they say they are ready for you to head towards the stage.”
You jumped at the sound of Steve’s voice. “Goddamn it! Okay, fucking thank you!” His eyes narrowed in your direction as he came in and closed the door behind him. “Can I help you with anything else?!”
“Are you alright?”
“Jesus fucking Christ, you’re not my father, Steven, or my friend. Get the fuck out! I’ll be right out!”
The boy bites his bottom lip as he nods his head. “Yes ma’am.” As he starts to open the door, he pauses turning to face you again. “You look really beautiful, by the way. Your voice is amazing. Eddie and I have actually never heard any of your songs before today. This will be our first concert. I’m excited to see it.”
Your wide, glassy eyes turn to look at him as he slowly begins to close the door again.
“Steve! Thank you…”
##########
That night you gave it your all and then some. Occasionally, you would glance down at the bottom of the stage watching as Steve and Eddie’s demeanor remained focused on the task at hand. Sometimes, however, you would notice a foot tap to the beat or a head would bob to your lyrics. If this was the first time they were attending a Y/N concert, you wanted them to enjoy it and show them what you bring to the entertainment table.
So many people when you were starting out told you that you would never make it. That your dream of becoming a singer was a pipe dream for people with “actual talent”. Since day one you always felt like you had to prove yourself, hell, even before you started singing. In your house growing up you felt like you had to fight to be seen.
Once you crossed that threshold, everything came easier but you never stopped fighting. Fighting the fear of being nothing again, the knowledge that everyone in your circle just wanted a piece of you and what you earned. Fighting to keep everyone happy including yourself. The alcohol and drugs helped immensely or at least that’s what you believed. You thought it helped numb your brain and the pain so you could just get through every day.
When Eddie sassed you in the studio, you knew he was different. For a while you couldn’t get a read on Steve until that night outside of the bar. The fact that neither of them had asked you to hear their demo tape or hit on you was already a point in their favor but they genuinely seemed to want to protect you so you wanted to return the favor in some way, your voice.
When the concert ended, they snuck a peak at you. Eddie was never a fan of the type of music you sang but he couldn’t deny that what you did sing went straight to his heart. Steve noticed that while you sang, it was like you transported to a different place. You seemed calmer and more in tune with yourself, making you seem more confident than when you weren’t.
This was the first time since they met you that you genuinely seemed happy.
Something in the atmosphere changed. Maybe it was too many booze served at the bar or just the energy of the evening but people in the crowd started chanting for an encore. You were exhausted having gone longer on your set then you were supposed to already. You gave the crowd your best smile, thanking them for coming out, and telling them how much you loved their support.
A fan jumped on to the stage and Eddie was quick to pull him back down. Panic set in as you watched the crowd start to fight with each other and the security team jump into action. The metalhead was in front of you and you hastily gripped his arm as he scanned the area trying to find Steve.
“Harrington?!”
After tapping his shoulder, you pointed to the corner near a wall where you saw the boy in a fist fight of his own. Eddie pushed you towards the side of the stage behind a curtain.
“Don’t move! I’ll be right back, ok?!”, he shouted over the chaos as you gave him a firm nod.
You watched as he jumped off the platform, running to pull the man off his friend and shoving him to where you were hiding. Steve didn’t even hesitate as he lifted you into his arms and they both ran down the hallway. They didn’t stop until they reached their car and placed you in the back seat, him climbing in with you as Eddie sped away.
“Wait…what about Jack…and everyone else?”
“No. We have to get you out and away from the building especially during a scene like that.” Steve searched through his jacket pocket for a tissue, placing it against his nose when he finally finds one.
“Are-are you okay?”
“Yeah. Fucking asshole got me good.”
About a mile down the road, Eddie parked the car into a gas station and got out to check you both over. “What happened, Harrington? Let someone get the best of you?”, Eddie chuckled.
“Dude, they cornered me so fast especially after I pulled him off of the venue’s security guy.”
“Did I do that? Did I do something wrong?” Their head swivel around to look at your frightened frame. “Th-that’s never happened before…I-I-I…”
“Hey, hey, hey Y/N. It’s ok. You didn’t do anything wrong. I seriously think it was just…”, Eddie shrugs. “Beer and a packed in place. People just being…too rowdy. It happens but that’s what we’re here for.”
The man throws his arms up in surprise when you suddenly tackle him, wrapping your arms around his waist as you press your head into his chest.
“Thank you…so much.” You let him go as you turn to give Steve a hug as well. “I’m so sorry you got hurt.”
When you started to pull back, his arms came down to hold you to him. “Hey, better me than you.”, he gently sighs, “Come on. Let’s get you home.”
#######
“Oh my god! What the fuck happened?! Baby, are you okay?” Simon ran to you from his place on your couch as you and the guys entered your house.
“The concert ended a bit roughly but I’m ok. Really…”
“Isn’t it your job to fucking protect her!?”
“Yes and we did that.”
“Are you fucking kidding me?! Look at her! She’s a mess and she’s shaking!” Your boyfriend charged up to Steve who glared down at him as he continued to yell in his face.”
“Simon, leave them alone. Please, I just want to get this crap off and go to bed.”
Eddie gripped his friend’s arm as he spoke to you. “Is there anything else you need, Y/N? Do you feel safe enough for us to leave and let you rest?”
“Of course, she fucking does. I can take care of her.”
Your eyes met theirs as you nodded. “Thank you.”
“We’ll talk to Jack and everyone in the morning.” The metalhead tugs at Steve forcing him to back down from your boyfriend. He flashes you one more cursory glance before turning around and leaving you for the night.
###########
“You boys did good last night. I don’t know what happened but you knew what to do.” Jack gave them a smile as he nodded his head in approval. “Please keep up that vigilance next week when we go on tour. I think—”
“Wait. You’re still doing the tour next week?”
Your manager looked at Eddie in confusion. “Yes? Why wouldn’t we?”
“I mean…she just went through a pretty traumatic event. I couldn’t imagine getting back up on a stage immediately after something like that.”
“Yeah, well, your security not a musician so—”
“I actually am but whatever.”
Jack sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose as speaks to you. “Do you feel like you need more time?”
You didn’t even hear the man’s question. Since they picked you up and brought you to your managers office, you had been uncharacteristically quiet. You were thinking about everything including what transpired last night. It WAS incredibly scary but they did pull through and keep you safe. Not only did they look after you but each other; you appreciated that loyalty.
Now as Eddie defended you, thinking of your well-being, you felt yourself spiraling at the action. No one cared about you this much and they barely even knew you. What was their end game? What made them tick? What made them this way? Was it genuine or was it just their jobs?
“Y/N!”
“Huh? Oh, um, I mean…a week would be fine…especially if I can just rest…”
“Yeah, sure, whatever.”, Jack responded in a nonchalant tone. “Go ahead and take the week but be back here on Thursday so we can go over everything.”
You nod as you head out of the office with your protectors in tow. “Hey, um, did you guys want to go get some lunch or something?”
***
“So, why security?”, you ask as you bite into your burger.
“Like Steve said, I mean, we’re good at it.”
“Well, good at protecting people. Security work just allows us to get paid for it.”, the man smiles as he takes a sip from his drink.
“And you two have been friends for a while?”
“Since high school.”
“And where was that exactly?”
“You’re asking a lot of questions, sweetheart. Can I ask why?”, Eddie playfully narrows his eyes in your direction making you smile.
“I just…you two are very different then people we usually hire. I just want to know more about you.”
“Different how?”, Steve asks.
“I don’t know. You just seem to genuinely care.”
“If the people around you don’t genuinely care then you need to hire some new people.”
“Yeah, well, that’s hard to find in this industry.” You reach in your purse and raise a flask in their direction as you pour a bit into your coffee.
“Is that why you do things like that?”, Eddie gestures towards you drink.
“No, baby. I do things like this to keep me from going insane.”
“How about you do the healthy thing and stand up for yourself?”
You angerly turn your attention to Steve. “I can stand up for myself.”
“Oh? Is that why you let your manager, boyfriend, and entourage talk down to you the way they do?”
“Go fuck yourself, alright?! Look, I can stick up for myself and say what’s on my mind. For example, you two are complete fucking assholes.”, you growl. “I’m done eating. I want to go home.”
Eddie smirks as the other boy sighs. “Such a whiney, spoiled brat. I swear.” The metalhead pulls out his wallet, throwing money on the table as they both get to their feet. “Your highness.”, he gestures towards the front door.
“I’m not whiney or spoiled. I worked hard to get here and I’m not going to let you or anyone talk to me like that.”
“Yet you do.”, Steve retorts as he opens the back door to his car. You roughly reach across, slamming it shut. “I thought you wanted to go home.”
“Apologize to me.”
“For what? Pointing out the obvious? Frankly, I don’t get why you have such a low opinion of yourself. You’re beautiful, talented, and you have such a gorgeous voice yet you pump yourself with poison and let these people take advantage of you. Why?”
You exhale as you look towards the ground. “I can handle it.”
“You say that a lot.” Eddie folds his arms on top of the car as he leans onto his hands.
“Because I can.”
“By getting wasted?”
“My personal life is none of your fucking concern.”, you growl.
“You’re right.” Steve opens the back door again and this time you climb in. “You just seem like you deserve better.”
##########
“I swear, man, that girl is going to get us killed. Or put in prison after WE kill her.”, Eddie chuckles from his place on the sofa.
“I kind of like her.” The metalhead coyly raises his eyebrow at his friend. “Oh, come on, like you don’t?”, Steve sighs as he leans back against the couch. “There’s something hidden under all that sass and alcohol…I saw it when she was singing. I’d love to get to know that part of her better.”
Eddie grinned as he reached for his phone, smile fading when he saw the ID.
“Hello. This is Eddie Munson.”
“E-Eddie? I, um, I think—FUCK YOU! —I need help.”
“You stupid bitch! Open this fucking door right fucking now!”
Eddie ross to his feet, tugging at Steve’s arm as he searched for his keys. “Where are you?”
“I-I’m in my bedroom. Simon and I got into a fight and-and he’s wasted. Pl-please…I’m scared. He’s never been this angry.”
Steve had already started the car, speeding towards your house. “Hey, it’s ok, sweetheart. We’re on the way, alright? Just stay on the phone with me, ok?”
“I’m sorry I was so mean to you guys today. Fuck… you two seem s-so different. I-I just…”
“Y/N don’t even worry about that right now. Everything’s going to be alright. We’re almost there.”
“You think you’re so high and mighty! Think you can talk to me anyway you want to! Fuck you, you fucking slut! Open the door, Y/N!”
“Oh, sure! You fuck all the groupies and fans that show up to my concerts but I’m the fucking slut!”
“Y/N, stop engaging. Talk to me.” There’s a loud crash and a squeak from your side as the line cuts off. “Steve…hurry.”
Five minutes later, they are bursting through your front door, running towards your bedroom where they hear your boyfriend shouting. Steve tackles him to the floor subduing him with his knee in his back.
“Get the fuck off me!”
“Stop moving. You’re lucky I don’t fucking shoot you, asshole.”
“Y/N?”, Eddie softly called your name as you continued to cower in the corner with your head tucked into your arms. “Princess, everything is ok. I’m going to touch your arm.” You jump when his fingers graze your skin but you allow him to guide you to your feet. “There we go. Good girl. You’re doing so good. Can you look at me so I can check you out here?”
Your lips trembled as you faced him, his eyes slowly growing dark with fury as he scanned you over. Your face was red from your tears but he could also see where Simon had smacked your cheek. You had bruises that were starting to form on your arms where he must have grabbed you.
“I’ll call the police and EMS.”, he grumbled trying to contain his anger.
“No! No EMS. Please…I don’t need those pictures or attention.”
“But I do of me being pushed into a fucking cop car.”, Simon spat.
Steve grabbed his hair and hit his head into the carpet. “Shut. Up.” His eyes meet yours as he speaks in a much gentler tone. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah, um, I have a first aid kit here and all that so I’m fine.”
***
The police came by and took Simon away after taking everyone’s statements. Eddie and Steve took care of almost everything which you immensely appreciated. After everyone left, you expected them to as well but as your front door closed, you found you weren’t the only one on the other side.
“I’m going to see if I can get your bedroom door back on its hinges.”, Eddie turned the corner to head down your hallway as Steve followed.
You tiptoe after them, watching them with bewilderment as the metalhead got to work and Steve began straightening up the things Simon had damaged.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” They both froze, straightening up to look at you. “Why…why are you so nice to me? I’m such a fucking bitch to you. According to you, I’m a bratty, spoiled, washed up singer. WHY are you doing this?!”, you gesture around the room.
They glanced at each other and after a few minutes it was Steve who finally spoke. “How should we be? Hm? Should we be like him? Do you think you deserve to be treated like this, Y/N?”
Their voices and demeanor completely changed in the moment; talking to you like a little girl who had just run into your parent’s room crying about a monster under her bed.
“Sweetheart, NO ONE deserve to be treated like this. You didn’t trigger this. What he just did…isn’t your fault. You did the right thing calling us here. Now what kind of protectors would we be if we left you here alone with your house like this?”
You broke, sobbing almost uncontrollably as your hands covered your face. Strong hands tenderly grabbed your biceps, pulling you into a chest as you wrapped your arms around his back. Another palm delicately petted your head and for the first time in your life, you had never felt safer.
Stepping back, you wipe your eyes, glancing up to see Eddie’s kind, worry filled orbs running over your face as Steve stood beside him doing the same.
“Can, um, can we worry about this tomorrow and you stay here with me tonight?”
“Yeah, we can stay here, honey. Do you have another room you can sleep in? I don’t think tomorrow morning you should open your eyes and this is the first thing you see.”
“I have a guest bedroom down the hall here.”
“Good because I agree with Steve. We can sleep on the couches out here and—”
“Can you sleep with me?”, you interrupt, your question startling both men. “I-I-I mean, you don’t have to. I just… I’m still a bit scared. I’m…forget about it.”
Eddie grabbed your hand as you started to walk away.
“We can do that for you. If that’s what you want.” You nod your head to his statement, watching him closely as his eyes shift from security Eddie to something you had never seen before in any man. Whatever it was it made you feel weak in the knees. His fingers reached out to brush a loose strand of hair behind your ear. “Can you say it?”
“I-I want you two to sleep…in my bed…with me. Please.” That last word comes out almost in a whisper, pleading with them to stay.
Steve’s fingers softly caress your cheek before gliding under your chin, turning you to face him. He had that same look Eddie had, that air of confidence you remembered seeing when you first met them but more dominate.
“Good girl.”

MY stranger things unpopular opinions <3
ok nobody asked but these r my stranger things unpopular opinions, inspired by a tweet where people just shared super common and well accepted opinions instead of actual controversy lol
also half of these r gonna be ronance centered because they’re literally all i think about
- first and foremost, nancy is a lesbian. i think so many of her actions and struggles can absolutely be traced back to comphet and repression and i feel like people want to cling onto her romance with steve and jonathan as a way to justify her fondness for them, when i think she can just care about them because they’re her friends and they’re trauma bonded(tm)
- while i like steve and robin being besties as much as everyone else i feel like people overestimate how close they really are in canon. of course they’re best friends but they really aren’t overly dependent on each other like people interpret them to be. they’re best friends but they also function really well on their own.
- though there’s no denying that will has feelings for mike i sincerely doubt that those romantic feelings are reciprocated and i think people are way too confident that byler is gonna be canon
- elmax is miles better than almost every canon AND fanon relationship in the show (i’d argue jopper and lumax (and biased opinion ronance) are the only genuine contenders)
- while i make a habit of being overly critical of men i think people forget that the “grumpy dad” trope with hopper that they like so much comes with him being a total dick sometimes lol
- both jonathan AND steve were weird as fuck in season 1. y’all r having a mid-off when u argue jancy vs. stancy
- and by mid-off i mean stancy wasn’t as bad as y’all act like it was and jancy is not as good as y’all act like it is
- y’all infantilize the FUCK out of robin buckley and im SICK OF IT!! she’s incredibly smart and strong and u people act like she’s stupid/a pushover/a nervous little baby
- in general i think the ronance fandom likes to apply tropes to nancy and robin in a way that isn’t accurate to their characters. its a very common and predictable pattern and i think thats why a lot of fan works feel out of character (an example to this is people applying grumpy x sunshine to nancy and robin respectively and it just doesn’t fit)
- karen is not a good mother. i think everyone can agree karen is weird as fuck for the billy thing, but i see a lot of people argue for karen that she’s really grown as a mother but i’m not seeing it. i don’t doubt that she loves her kids but there’s a reason mike and nancy are Like That
- y’all made up a ton of steve’s personality traits. i’m all good with interpreting his character a certain way but if the reason you hate nancy wheeler is because she unknowingly poked at insecurity of steve’s that u made up i have 0 respect for ur opinions lol
- and on that note steve is pretty badly written. i don’t think his path to “redemption” was bad but he’s so far from anything special that the love he gets from the fandom astounds me
- luckily this opinion isnt as unpopular anymore but steddie was figment of fandom imagination and the fact that it rotted y’all’s brains so bad to the point where you convinced yourself eddie munson was actually really important is just so...
- if you make fruity four content without nancy because you don’t think she’s interesting enough you’re a loser
- byclair is literally SOOOO much better than byler the fact that y’all aren’t going to war for them is upsetting
- this better not be an unpopular opinion but ive been seeing more of it recently: if you think joyce byers is a bad mother block me rn
- any hate that eleven, max, and nancy get is almost ALWAYS rooted in misogyny
ok thats it i probably have more but i cant think of any </3

@eddiemonth prompt, oct 9th: Cowboy | Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi | Cavalier a/n: steddie, post-canon fix it, brief mention of canonical harassment, brief allusion to survivor's guilt. un-betaed because I’m challenging myself to write these in under an hour. read on ao3 | link to masterpost on ao3
The sun rises over a leveled Hawkins, bright streaks of sunlight illuminating the cracks and crevices that spider through the town. Fractals that remind Eddie Munson of what’s occurred over the past week since the world first split open.
A week of chaos, of death, of fear. A week of discovering that monsters are real, and that while the ones beneath their feet are terrifying, the ones that hunt Eddie above ground are somehow worse.
The people who still think he’s a murderer, despite being publicly cleared, are far worse than Vecna. They taunt Wayne, deface his posters with things like Dead or Alive on his missing posters, show up at his work to torment him.
It’s why eventually, they have to tell Wayne that he’s dead. Eddie hates it, the idea of leaving Wayne in the dark, but he knows that Nancy’s right and it’s the best way to keep everyone safe. Dustin offers to deliver the news complete with his favorite, now-bloodied, guitar pick chain.
He’s just a kid, Eddie thinks, hiding in Steve’s basement for the time being, his wounds healing slowly.
Dustin’s just a kid, and he sobs when he tells Wayne not because Eddie’s actually dead, but because Wayne is devastated and Dustin has to lie.
Months pass, and Eddie is still considered missing despite everyone’s story that he was swallowed up saving Dustin from a crevice that’d opened beneath their feet.
No body, no absolution. Not for Eddie.
“We can’t keep him holed up here,” Steve groans, running a hand through his hair as he sits on the couch between Eddie and Robin. “It’s not fair.”
“What do you suppose we do then, Steve? The town still…” Nancy grimaces and trails off.
“Yeah, they want me dead, sure. Let ‘em take a crack at it.” Eddie says, monotone and cavalier. “That sounded bad, but seriously, what kind of life is this? Steve’s basement’s fine, but what’s the plan? I just stay here for the rest of my life, hiding? I’d rather be–”
Steve turns and levels him with a glare that needs no words. They’ve talked about this, time after time, that making comments about preferring to be dead are a personal insult to the people who love him, who fought tooth and nail to save him the way he saved them.
He cuts himself off, shakes his head. “What else can we do?”
Dustin is in the corner with the other kids, talking amongst themselves, until Lucas speaks up.
“Someone who knows what’s actually going on has to get him away, outta town. Start over.”
The older teens share a glance, Jonathan and Argyle shrugging in tandem. “California’s pretty far. We’re not going back but, we could set you up with some good people out there.”
“He can’t just go alone though, he’s barely healed!” Robin reminds the group of Eddie’s extensive injuries, healed on the surface but not all the way through. They may never be healed all the way through.
Eddie sighs and drops his head into his hands, elbows propped on his knees. He tries to disguise the way his shoulders shake, tries to bite back the helpless, hopeless sobs that threaten to rip through his rib cage. He doesn’t want to cry in front of his friends, and the few times he’s broken down in front of Steve, it’s pulled painfully at the tendons in his chest.
He feels Robin rub his back and Steve rests a hand on his thigh, thumbing small circles into the fabric of his sweatpants. Well, they were once Steve’s but he can’t even go back to the trailer to salvage what he can of his things. He can’t even go get Sweetheart, not that he thinks he’ll ever be comfortable playing her again.
“What if I go with him?” Steve suggests, quietly enough that Eddie’s the only one to hear him clearly.
“What?” Dustin questions, stepping forward with the rest of the kids.
“I said, what if I go with him? I know what’s going on, my body’s recovered, and let’s call a spade a spade here, I’m the only one without parents around to question where I went. So, what if I go with Eddie to California?”
Eddie’s chest pulls for different reasons— this time, with hope and gratitude, with love and affection.
“Steve, I’m not asking you to do that,” he whispers, turning to face him individually. “You have a whole life here.”
“We’ll come visit, and he can come back to visit, too. And eventually, you’ll be declared dead here. You can start over.” Robin slings an arm over Eddie’s shoulders and squeezes him, a rare show of physical intimacy. Her voice is melancholic at best, but the more the group discusses the option, the more it seems like the only option.
At least for now.
At least while Eddie remains a wanted man.
They waste no time packing up the Pizzamobile, offered as a gift to travel across the country with the provision that Steve return it to Surfer Boy when they reach California.
Eddie and Steve refuse to say goodbye, because it’s not. Robin promises that all of her college applications are now going to California schools, and she hugs Steve and Eddie tight enough that if love could click Eddie’s injuries back in place, he’d be healed immediately.
As they get on the road, Steve at the helm and Eddie sitting passenger, Eddie finds that Argyle has a vast cassette collection.
“Little soundtrack, Stevie?” Eddie wiggles the tape between his fingers and pops it into the tape deck.
The song starts and after the first verse, Eddie just stares out the windshield, thinking.
When he was a kid, outlaws and cowboys were glamorized. Always on the run, nothing to tether them to one place, living alone out on the road. But now it’s Eddie who feels like the outlaw, running from his own innocence, and he can’t find a shred of glamor in that.
“You’re thinking awfully loud over there, Munson.” Steve does it again, rests a hand on Eddie’s thigh as he drives one-handed, and Eddie feels that same glimmer of hope come alive again.
Eddie shrugs and rests his head back against the seat, cracked pleather against his neck.
“All good over here, big boy.”  They drive in silence save for Bon Jovi’s Wanted Dead or Alive and Eddie watches the sunset over the wide expanse of promising highway ahead of them.
