Having some thoughts about compulsory sexuality, especially how posts about sex positivity vs censorship have an unfortunate tendency to cast people who are less willing to engage with sex as the cause and the symptom of puritanism when puritanical people are usually pretty pro-sex (within very narrow parameters that they weaponize against everyone else).

Tl;dr: Ending stigma around sex = Good. Implying less sexual people are losers / bad queers / oppressors = No thanks.

I hate "it's not trying to be accurate!" arguments for historical fiction or historically-inspired fantasy clothing choices that just. don't make sense logistically

why is that girl in Br*dgerton tightlacing her stays? what is she reducing- her upper ribcage? not only can you not tightlace in those (hand-bound eyelets can't usually take that strain, in my experience), but there's no reason to because your waistline is under your boobs. and unlike most of the series, they actually commit to the empire waistline for the court presentation gowns. small waists don't matter when NOBODY IS SEEING YOUR WAIST

why no chemise, in so many productions? fantasy/lack of concern for accuracy can't make things not chafe. chafing is not a matter of accuracy; it's a physical reality. did a wizard give everybody in the kingdom Anti-Chafing Spells?

just because you don't WANT a linen underlayer beneath a medieval tunic doesn't mean sweat won't get to outer garments and damage them- or make them need laundering, which weakens the fibers -at a time when all clothing is handmade, custom-fitted, and created from hand-woven fabrics and thus a HUGE investment

Hello! I recently saw your Vampire!Alhaitham headcanons floating around again, and since I just finished 3.2 not that long ago and have a certain feeble scholar on the mind, what are your thoughts on Vampire!Anaxa if you have any?

Would be similar or different from Alhaitham in your opinion?

If Vampire!Alhaitham is one who’d much rather pull the strings from the safety of the shadows, Vampire!Anaxa is someone who’d parade in the sun with his head held high, if only to spite the people praying for his demise.

He’s a paragon of truth, his desire to answer the question of what exactly he is, is far hungrier than the instincts he has to battle with all day. Outwardly, he looks quite like a stereotypical vampire — thin figure, pale complexion and a temperament that seems to hint that he has spent a millennia divorced from human society. The only thing, and a rather crucial thing at that, which he appears to be missing is that untamable thirst for fresh blood.

Contrary to the impression he gives, he’s actually lived among humans for quite some time as a scholar and he often thanks his ‘control over the bloodlust’ in assisting him to not blow his cover up. Not that he's fond of this charade, but the benefits of enduring humankind's nauseating presence kept him sane enough. Perhaps arrogance crawled to occupy the space of where his heart should’ve been beating, as when his belief of ultimate self control was put to the test, he refused to accept it.

“But you were a human once, weren't you?” the whisper of a road sporting the garments of mystery, intent on making him lose his way for eternity. A cool finger glides over the line of his jaw, its chill very different than his own.

Anaxa forces himself to swallow, that metallic tang insistent on his tongue — not willing to believe that he was a tad too late to conceal the ungraceful drool.

“You and I, we’re both rejected by this world, shackled in the shadows. Why not quit this pouting game and team up with me instead?” as if dissatisfied by the level of atrocity in your words, you amp it up by poking at the bloody fang peeking from his lips. He responds in kind by biting down, hard ; you seem just the tiny bit amused.

“Curse you…” it's a futile exclamation, laughable at that and that is exactly how you respond. Despite his talons clinging around your neck and a fresh wound marring the skin where your artery thrums, you appear not the tiniest bit fazed. It steals his breath away.

“Look at you,” you coo, extending your palm as if to cradle his face but brush past it instead, dizzying him. “Salivating just from one taste. You’re not as immune to this bloodthirst as you’d like to believe, you wouldn't survive an hour if any of those humans found you like this. I can offer you protection and you can be my little toy. Is there any deal better than this?”

Don't listen, don't listen, don't listen. That is the whisper that weaves poison, enchants desperate souls into pawning their remaining spark. A creature neither foolish nor wise. “I’d rather burn at the stake than entertain your schemes.” comes his sibilant retort.

“Ah ah ah.” you chastise, as if he's nothing but a child who knows little about how this world works. “But you still haven't found the answer to what you are, why you're like this.” you glance towards the trail of blood oozing from his bite, a flick of your fingers and within a blink, the scene disappears.

“What if I told you… that I know the answers you seek?”

A road that will lead him nowhere, a serpent disguising as a flower. And he, the Fool that will chase the mirage, despite knowing that nothing awaits him but doom.

First time we met Jammer, he was running basketball practice with his team, offering tips and advice to the younger players, and generally embodying everything a team captain should be. Now, we see him working with kids, helping out in so many different areas, and clearly dedicating his life to lifting other people up, but there's some disconnect there all the same.

First time we met K, she was deep in fandom discourse threads on Twitter, perfectly embodied the spirit of the person who's chronically online and always on edge, and wanted nothing more than to be magic and cool and mysterious. Now, they're a magical hacker who lives on the road, doesn't take breaks for days because they're so fixated on helping people, and is magic and cool and mysterious, but in a whole other direction than they thought they'd be.

First time we met Sam, she was doing a livestream for a trend that she didn't fully get, going through her life with a big smile on her face, and was the type of person who would be irritating if they weren't so clearly authentically kind. Now, she's an actual celebrity who's running a talk show that she's not quite sure how to run, shining brighter than she ever has before, and is running on impulse in a way that, against all odds, works out in her favor.

First time we met Evan, he was alone in every sense of the word, living from moment to moment, prioritizing safety above all else, and having no idea how to deal with his out-of-control powers. Now, even though he has people and a home and a semblance of stability, he's still clinging onto the behaviors that kept him alive, still ready to pack up his life at a moment's notice, still keeping an eye out for the moment where he starts casting a shadow.

Everything stays but it still changes, huh?

Taking the current topic as an excuse to ask you to tell me all the reasons you love Rarijack. Your art for the ship is so sweet and intimate I'd love to hear any in depth thoughts you have.

I think what makes their dynamic really strong is that they have opposing personalities but aligned values. It's deeper than just "opposites attract." Rarity's fancy, prissy, and femme while Applejack's modest, rough, and "masculine." But both value hard work (to the point of being workaholics), their families (both have guardianship over their little sisters), running successful businesses, and eventually each other. Their relationship can be boiled down to, "Despite our differences/disagreements, I still like you because we value the same things."

We see their relationship develop so much. In the first season, they can't stop bickering about surface-level differences. By season four, they still bicker, but will mend their relationship because they can't help but do nice things for each other. In Trade Ya, they start off arguing over personality differences (Applejack likes old junk and Rarity likes useless crap). Then they pivot and start arguing that they value their relationship more than the other. In the end, they mend things by sacrificing their needs and buying each other a gift. Even if they don't understand it, they know it'd make the other happy. And that's all that really matters. It's a genuinely sweet moment that shows how arguing can be healthy and necessary for relationships to strengthen.

We even see them dropping their hang-ups about each others' personalities. In Made in Manehattan, when Rarity runs off in dramatics about someone's fashion, AJ doesn't roll her eyes or scoff, she smiles. Oftentimes, their conflicts are very common domestic conflicts romantic couples face. Applejack's Day Off is about a woman's inability to balance work and life and find time to properly spend with her partner, causing her partner to feel neglected.

By season seven, they're actively participating in each others' interests. Any problems or conflicts that arise are dealt with, and they come out the other end stronger and closer. In Honest Apple, AJ pretty much spells out why their relationship works so well: even though she doesn't understand fashion, she can recognize and appreciate how much work it takes and wants to respect that. When she realizes her mistake in the episode, AJ goes above and beyond to fix things and apologize to Rarity. They care about each other so much.

The two go out of their way, sacrificing their personal desires and beliefs and doing things they normally wouldn't, to make the other happy. That's just love.

There's Simple Ways, where AJ gets stuck in an unwanted love triangle between Rarity and her hipster crush. And her frustration and anger can be so easily interpreted as AJ finding herself in a terrible position; the girl she loves wants another man, and that man wants her.

I dunno. I've always had a preference for opposites attract ships, but Rarijack's stuck with me like a brain worm because they have the perfect chemistry. The way they show they care, or do things for each other, I've always read it as the truest representation of romance in the show.

the webcomic can have one (1) funny "earnest moment interrupted by comedy" joke. as a treat. but also because it is so in character for them ajkshdjkas

yes they will say the most earnest shit to each other and then immediately try to cringe out of their own bodies. they are best friends but they would rather jump out of a window before admitting it. they are incredibly devoted and grateful to one another but you could not water board that out of either of them.

the only thing that can get either of them to admit how much they care for each other is if the other is in life threatening danger and not a second before aakjshdks

like if Maomao's love for Shisui didn't save her, one could make the assumption that it wouldn't save Jinshi either!!!

It will just reinforce Maomao belief that she as a lowly servant doesn't matter. that her love won't matter. it won't keep anyone safe

and that's what matters more to Maomao!!

she would rather have her loved one's safe than be loved herself

She would rather Jinshi be alive then returning Maomao's feelings and risking him having the same fate as Shisui!!!

keep in mind I've only watched the anime but I know some spoilers from the light novel but I haven't read it.

but like Shisui being self-sacrificial will make Maomao more self-sacrificial in order to protect the one's she loves!!
