"Great. We're locked in." Sakusa sighed after pulling on the door handle, the door refusing to budge.
The thing you probably least expected to happen today is being locked in a room with Sakusa Kiyoomi, the one player in the MSBY Black Jackals who disliked you.
"Do you have your phone on you?" He asked, annoyance showing in his voice. You checked your pockets, quickly realising you forgot your phone on the office desk. You groaned, cursing under your breath.
He realised the same thing as you, also cursing himself out internally for somehow forgetting to charge his phone this morning.
"When do the others come back?" You could sense the impatience and discomfort in his voice, sighing silently to yourself. Of course, neither of you were happy to be locked in a room with no way out, but the fact that it's you he's trapped with must make it even worse for him.
Somehow, it hurts you immensely that the two can't seem to get along. You know that it's just like that with some people in life, but why Kiyoomi of all people? A player that you have to interact with a lot as a manager, a player who's... kind of hot...
No! This is weird! Why would you think that for even a second?!
"...Are you going to answer me?"
"I HAVE NO IDEA!- I don't know!!" You stammered out, embarrased at your own thoughts even though you knew he couldn't read them.
He furrowed his brows at you slightly before sitting down on a chair in the room, making sure to dust it off beforehand. He muttered something under his breath that you vaguely registered as a curse word.
Oh, he hates you that much.
You swallowed your spit, not knowing what to do yourself. You sat down on the floor, placing your arms on your knees in anticipation of an uncomfortable time.
"Don't sit on the floor. Sit here." His suggestion surprised you, looking up at him to find him pointing to the chair next to him.
You did so silently, not wanting to make him annoyed or angry. God, this was the most awkward you've felt since confessing to your crush back in middle school. You glanced over at him, and he looked to be deep in thought.
You couldn't tell what his expression was like exactly because of his mask, and you had a feeling that you've been looking at him for far too long anyways.
"I'm going to regret this later." He said quietly, and before you could even question what he meant by that, he was sliding his mask down his face and pulling you closer by the waist. Wait... what?!
You had no time to think about what was happening because before you knew it, his lips gently pressed against yours. You made a noise of surprise, slightly muffled by his lips.
He pulled away far too soon, making you whine lowly. He looked away.
"I'm sorry. I usually think things through well, but I-"
"I liked it!!! I liked it a lot!!" That was the only thing you could say right now, still in a state of shock. But he hated you?! What in the world...
He simply hummed in response. He himself doesn't know what came over him there. He's always been distant towards you since you made him feel something weird, something new. He felt a little too safe and comfortable around you, despite you becoming the manager only a few short months ago.
And it bothered him to no end, considering his cautious nature. Up until now, ignoring it was the best route. But being trapped in a room with you for god knows how long made something snap within him.
It made the feelings he tried to desperately supress bubble up.
And you took it... well. Almost as if you felt the same way.
"Oh my god..." you groaned into your hands, feeling very overwhelmed with emotions yourself. And you're going to be trapped in a room with him... for how much longer?

Thatā€™s okay! With how popular the Addams family is getting again. I assumed that you might have saw something so thatā€™s my fault. šŸ˜ How about instead a professional chef Mc, whoā€™s cooking is just godly?
Now this, I can do!
Lucifer keeps a weary ear on the kitchen. It's the human's first time on dinner duty, he's left Mammon to make sure they don't burn the house down...and the more he thinks about it, the more he regrets that decision.
Not that Mammon would let anyone else near MC. Nor is he particularly famous for stopping things from catching fire.
He finds reasons to linger nearby, hoping to keep the human from third degree burns or poisoning his family. Hopefully not all humans are cursed with Solomon's culinary abilities.
His worries proved to be entirely unfounded as Mc served up a dish of mouth-watering delights.
'You look surprised, Lucifer.'
'I...this is, impressive.'
'Nah, it's comfort food. Felt like I needed it.'
'I see...please cook more often.'
Mammon melted, and then proceeded to see money signs. This is a straight up restaurant level chef, under his roof, he could make a fortune off this human!
Or...he could watch that look in their eyes as they concentrate on intricate recipes, he could watch their careful hands plating up edible works of art, and keep it all to himself.
As the avatar of Greed, he opts not to share, and monopolises MC's cooking as often as possible.
Leviathan broke out the anime recipe book and BEGS MC to recreate all sorts of weird and wacky recipes, some that most chefs wouldn't even look at, much less after substituting so many ingredients as most couldn't be found in the devildom.
MC loves the challenge, and Leviathan loves watching them work it out before his very eyes. From picture to live action, they crank those meals out in record time and he loses his mind every time they do it.
He's MC's number one fan and absolutely started a blog purely for their culinary mastery.
Satan was more impressed with how good they were at building dishes from scratch. Ingredients common in the Devildom are completely alien to MC. Does that stop them?
Nope. Tasting it once is enough, they've got a mental map of the Devildom equivalent to just about every ingredient they need, and if they don't, Satan gets to do his favourite thing.
Food shopping with MC.
They end up tasting all sorts of new foods, eating at new restaurants and overall losing hours at a time doing "food research".
Asmodeus fears for his figure with MC around. No, really, that food is Celestial level heavenly.
90% of his devilgram pics are now MC's dishes, and no one can tell the difference between their cooking and restaurant food.
The avatar of lust even did himself a little experiment. He ordered a dish from Ristorante Six, then, asked MC to cook the same thing.
He doesn't eat out much anymore, he does however, find some creative uses for that homemade chocolate mousse of theirs...
Beelzebub...brace, he's stealing you.
MC has quickly learned that Beel is exceedingly good at pulling puppy dog eyes, and they do love to feed him. They used to hold off on making new recipes because they hated the thought of wasting food, but with Beel around, food is never wasted.
'It can't be worse than eating Solomon's food.' He says.
'Yes but...you're supposed to taste it. Not eat the plate too, hun.'
He can't help it! He loves MC, and he loves food, so food made by MC is perfection.
His brother know never to go near MC's cooking until Beel's share has been set aside for him, he's gone on more than one rampage because MC cooked and he didn't get any.
Belphegor thought it was silly at first, it's just food, why make it so fancy? Why have schools and stuff dedicated to making something taste good?
That opinion didn't last past the appetiser of MC's "Welcome out of the Attic" celebration.
They cooked a five course meal for everyone, from scratch, and every dish looked and smelled absolutely incredible. The food itself was an experience all on its own, and watching his brothers be utterly enamoured with the flavours was by far his favourite sight to date.
He saw MC in a new light after that. Their talent brought people together, they had a knack for knowing what to make for an occasion, and the way their eyes lit up at the sight of a full table was the stuff of dreams.
Does he wake up earlier on the days they're on breakfast duty?
...maybe.

Praise be I can't wait for fields of mistria to get popular and the fanfics to role in.
Someone has to as freaky as me to want a petplay Hayden fanfic, if no one writes it by the next major update I will take matters into my own hands.
Hell, I would kill for any fanfic that isn't March at this point, my hate for March is growing, he's named after the month I'm born in and I HATE him.
-that one anon who lives on this blog by now
I see why people like March but JEEZ, write and make fan art for someone else please Iā€™m begging šŸ˜ (I know I can absolutely do it myself and no hate whatsoever to anyone that makes March content but yknow). I wanna see more Ryis and Hayden content they are definitely the most underrated imo!! Iā€™m honestly surprised we donā€™t have a lot of balor content to read like I honestly thought heā€™d be more popular than March but I guess not, even with fan art. my hatred for March grows stronger every single day heā€™s so just UGH like I get it youā€™re angry blah blah whatever (the only angry person that can fill that small void in my heart is Whitney).
you mentioning pet play with Hayden has PIQUED my interest heavily btw and the second anyone writes something for that Iā€™m going to be all over it! Iā€™m glad Iā€™m not the only freak that likes it-

i just wanted to send some positive words your way and let you know that i absolutely adore the way you write both dark and daisuke. it's clear you put a lot of thought and love into both of them, and your posts have always brought a smile to my face. i'll never forget the shock i felt when your blog popped up in my recommended and, i was on call with my boyfriend at the time, he hears me go 'NO WAY, ARE YOU SERIOUS?' before i slapped the follow button LOL d.n.angel holds a special part of my early teenage years and your blog brings the warmth and nostalgia i felt all those years ago. i almost feel like that 14 year old again, giddy over a silly anime and kicking my feet with excitement every time i see your posts c: thank you for being such a joyous presence on my dash
Tumblr media
YOOOO YOU FOUND ME FROM TUMBLR RECCS???? that's so funny... i always thought that thing was useless but i've been proven so wrong LMAO. I'M REAL THOUGH. I'M SO REAL!!! *DOES A JIG* I'M SO GLAD MY BLOG CAN MAKE YOU FEEL THAT WAY TOO šŸ˜šŸ¤§PLEASE IT MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME. dnangel is such a weird series because it feels like everyone's at least -SEEN- or heard of it at least once but then it's still weirdly niche?? like there's not really anything for it esp anymore and nobody talks about it esp now that it's finally finished (manga-wise) after 30 some years but it's still like. most popular/easily recognized niche series ik off the top of my head JJGJKFKJ TYSM FOR UR COMPLIMENTS OVER MY PORTRAYAL TOO!!!
making this blog was such a good exercise in my own growth because going back to it sugisaki had such BANGER themes that i didn't even notice or totally grasp at first when i myself was in middleschool, so i feel like i'm lowkey compensating and paying proper attention to everybody now that i have. well. better critical thinking skills and media literacy DFKJKJGKJKJ even going back i was kind of surprised how it dealt with such dark topics like grief and death and the consequences of Playing God or sins and cycles when like.......... it's also a silly little dramatic rom-com about middleschoolers and immortals but it still never leaves you feeling hopeless or lonely, which as also sugisaki's intention with the series!! it's so nice!! i really wanted to be able to emulate the overall messages of her characters and loving art esp since it ends up so meta for us writers. i'm just happy to write!! doesn't have to be perfect or even exact, since i do take a tiny bit of creative/hc liberty with my own inspos and portrayals for dai n dark! but i'm always having sm fun interacting with everybody, AND I RLLY APPRECIATE U TOO!!! šŸ™‡šŸ™‡
i'll probably be around for a looooong time bc dai n dark r just as much treasured and influential for me (i was also one of those 14 yr olds, i have embarrassing dnangel merch on top of piles of manga laying around, im certifIED REAL FAN /J) but it makes me so happy my posts bring u joy. im glad bc i know i can post/talk ooc a lot before i get the time to actually properly sit down and Write but that's just how it is for a lot of us kjgkjgfb anyways, thank u again!! things like this rlly help my confidence since actually at the start i had no idea if i could do like... a protagonist (daisuke)/'popular' (to me. dark/dnangel is popular and legendary and overwhelming in the eyes of the tumblr populace to Me-) chara any justice, but im put at ease any time i get such warm feedback like this!!! šŸ’šŸ’šŸ’FOR YOU! u get even more flowers this time straight from me!!! go buy urself a treat for being so nice!!!

As far as engagement with your fics dwindling, I think itā€™s mainly a result of the ao3 tag naturally being flooded with show verse content and book writers disappearing. Thereā€™s also the increasing rhetoric among popular show writers/bloggers that continued art and fic for book Louis and Armand is inherently racist so my guess is no one wants to out themselves as someone who enjoys book fic for fear of being shunned. Which is disappointing but with a large fandom that is mainly centered around a popular show, not surprising (not that there wasnā€™t gatekeeping preshow but the fandom was significantly smaller). I think most fans of the show think with these new (and improved) incarnations of the characters, thereā€™s no need for their book counterparts. And the belief that people who do still enjoy book Louis and Armand are ignorant and fundamentally donā€™t understand the vc characters. It sucks because it wouldā€™ve been sweet if it could all be enjoyed for the multiverse itā€™s become since there are fans (like myself) who enjoy both the books and the show but there does seem to be an unspoken rule that you shouldnā€™t still be interested in producing content for the books. However, Iā€™ve always been a huge fan of your works (and meta/thoughts!!) and the quality of your writing and grasp on the characters is still just as compelling as ever so I selfishly hope you continue writing šŸ«¶ I promise Iā€™ll make an effort to drop comments! lol
Well first of all thank you!! I just want to reiterate that the point of my original post was never to fish for comments or anything, I was just curious about why the engagement was happening on here suddenly vs ao3, but I always appreciate comments, kudos, reblogs, etc, it makes me so happy to know people like my writing because I really love doing it. I have plenty more stuff planned just because I love writing fic and I love the characters, so no worries there!
That also makes a lot of sense actually as far as people wanting to send me anons instead of comment. That's a crazy take though, like the books are forty years old you can't expect them to suddenly not have fans because of a new adaptation...? And I think it's a wild take to say that the original books/fans of them don't understand the characters?? Tumblr discourse is on another level always.
Liking the show better is absolutely fine, everyone can have their own preferences in media, but I don't believe for one second that the show is "less problematic" than the books. They just found a different way to be insensitive and offensive šŸ˜ I think Anne Rice IP is just destined to be a morally bankrupt trainwreck and we all have to accept that. No one has moral high ground here really. And in a way it really feels like people coming into OUR house and saying we suck and aren't welcome.
This might be a selfish way of looking at it too, but I didn't get called literal slurs for months because I was defending the show and diverse casting for people to act like I have a problem with black Louis or brown Armand. Myself and friends of mine were harassed (including racially and sexually) for speaking positively about the casting decisions from day one, before most of these people knew the show or IWTV existed. My issues with it only started after episode 5 and that will always be my reason for jumping ship on the show.
I really wish things could have been different too, I was hoping the show would bring new people into the fold and just generally expand the VC multiverse like the movie did except with a new take on the story, but of course everything has to degenerate into a slap fight on the internet.
**There are absolutely people who don't like the show because they're racist shitheads and that is absolutely not a valid opinion to have btw. Just a blog reminder that I will absolutely never support or tolerate racism surrounding the show/the casting/the actors. It could have been a really great thing, unfortunately I just deeply disagree with how it was handled.**

Hi Mermie! Iā€™m a longtime lurker, and I finally gathered the courage to let you know how much I love your writing! Thank you for sharing all your stories with us :)
If I may, can I ask your thoughts on something? Iā€™ve been wanting to start my own writing blog for years now, but I also one day want to traditionally publish an original novel of my own. Do you think the risk of being found out as a ā€œfanfic writerā€ is worth? A lot of popular authors these days got their start writing fanfic, but Iā€™m curious what your think.
Thank you again! <3
This was the first of two asks I got within a day asking about the fanfic-writer-to-traditionally-published-author pipeline, lmfao, so Iā€™m gonna answer them back-to-back! Like neat lil bookends. šŸ“š
I think it can be! Are you embarrassed by the idea of your fics and your original writing being connected? šŸ„ŗ I know people like to weaponise the idea of the fanfic-to-pubbed-author pipeline against writers and books they donā€™t like, but to be honest I always see it as an inevitable next step for a lot of people LOL. People love the idea of telling stories! I have friends who arenā€™t writers naturally, that pine about wanting to publish a bookā€”so the fact that so many fic writers find their way into publishing original content doesnā€™t surprise me in the slightest. I do have mixed feelings about filing the serial numbers off of a fic, LOL, but I donā€™t think thereā€™s any real risk to being discovered as a fic writer these days (unless someone is a plagiarist, of course, which case there is a very big risk and maybe that plan should then be reassessed LOL). Itā€™s so popular! Itā€™s getting normalised, or at least is taking up enough space that involvement in it doesnā€™t have to be career-ending. There might be legality problems, maybe, but I donā€™t have the qualifications to comment on that because I honestly have no idea about it. šŸ˜
It just depends, I reckon! On several things! How comfortable you are with your fics and original writing being associated with each other. What genres youā€™re writing them in. How you write them. How you act on your fanfic blog, vs. how you eventually act online as a traditionally published writer. Like, if you wrote anime boyfriend smut and then write non-anime boyfriend smut, and acted the same on your tradpubbed accounts as you did your fic ones, I donā€™t see how being pinged for writing fanfic could be that bad. Itā€™s more about consistency, I reckon, than what youā€™re doing. People love the excuse to be a hater, and under that mentality everything is fair game, so sure, maybe one day someone will try to use your fanfic against youā€”if youā€™ve been consistent with how kindly you treat people and the things you like to write, the most it will be is annoying.
And honestly? Unless you are absolutely zealous about keeping your identity private, you should always just assume that someone out there will eventually connect you and your fanfic account!! People are nosy and the internet is surprisingly shallow; it holds everything, just under the surface. You either have to make peace with the idea that your writing will be compared (and maybe used against you, because people can be jerks!), or you protect yourself and your future stories and keep a sparse presence, or go ao3 only. šŸ„ŗ
Ultimately though?? I think itā€™s worth writing fanfic anyway. Even if you have to take a few extra, cautionary stepsā€”being part of a healthy community is fun!! Especially a writing community. Being traditionally published seems like it can be quite lonely, really; it doesnā€™t seem to have the same kind of interaction, especially if you start off as a smaller author. In fandom weā€™re all apart of the same spaceā€”we exist as readers and writers together, and we talk to each other fittingly. In the published world that real-time feedback is limited. The spaces readers can gush about a book are reader-only spacesā€”theyā€™re not for you, as a writer, because now you are separated from them (and rightfully so, tbh, so many authors are proving why the distance is necessary). I know social media now means that publishers like (and expect) their writers to be online and gather and maintain an audience, but that can backfire so easily. Look at how authors shoot themselves in the foot by lashing out a bad review on goodreads! Thereā€™s worse things to happen to a writing career than being outed for writing fanfic. As you said, so many popular authors got their start with fanfic! I mean, the Reylo community is thriving, for instanceā€”and the Dramione kiddos are beginning their trickle over, with writers like Olivie Blake.
Even if you have to be vicious about protecting your identity, I reckon fanfic can teach you a lot. Like how to handle (or not, lmao) the rudes; how to refine what youā€™re writing, and what youā€™re good atā€”and what people will respond to, in your stories. The hard part for all writing, fic or original, is finding your peopleā€”your audience! Because they need time to learn to trust you and trust the stories you tell, and that can be hard when youā€™re trying to do it with the weight of a publisherā€™s expectations behind you, making you do little tiktok dancesā€”or whateverā€”for attention. šŸ„ŗ If you start a fanfic blog and you get popular enough, youā€™re at the very least giving yourself options, because youā€™ll have people there that already like your writing, and you. People who might be interested in reading whatever original material you publish, beyond fic (people who might like watching the tiktok dances!!!).
Iā€™m (very clearly lmao) not an expert in the publishing industry, or the general attitude to fanfic-writers-turned-authors. There very well might be an unspoken convention that means theyā€™re more likely to be distrustful of a fanfic writer. Maybe thereā€™s some really severe expectations in monetising that pre-existing readership that was originally there for the love of the story, and the fandom it came from. All this casual gluttony, when it comes to fanfic, might already be effecting (affecting? I can never remember) the industry, as more and more fanfic readers and writers hit adulthood and get Big People Jobs in imprints and as editors or agents.
The only thing you can do, Anon, is a) decide what youā€™re comfortable with, and b) how best to tell the stories you wanna tell. Whether thatā€™s on AO3 or tumblr or a manuscript in an submissions inbox. I hope you get to write lots of stories, Anonā€”and that they find their people, no matter where or how youā€™re telling them. šŸ’•
