A random headcanon I have is that Dracula gifted Hector that big golden belt he wears:

His pants are so tight that he doesn't need a belt, but it looks elegant, and by the way it's skewed it's easy to see that it's not for support anyway. It's purely ornamental, which is odd as Hector doesn't seem to be concerned with being elegant.

In PtR, he apparently owns it from the get-go, although we can't see it under the uniform. Isaac doesn't have an equivalent of this.

And apparently, it's valuable enough that Rosaly doesn't dare taking it in fear of judgment from other people:

"The unspent ferry fare for the Nether Rivers... to make up for it…"

"Worn-out and shiny? Thank you for the thought, but they'll think I stole it... I wonder if you don't know the world..."

I believe it was Dracula's gift, an unusual act of generosity. I don't know if he also was the one who pierced Hector's ears (I have multiple ideas for those piercings lol), but this one was him. I can see him trying to pretty his boy up :) giving him such a valuable gift to make him feel loved and special :) distinguishing him from Isaac who has to wear a proper uniform without embellishments :)

And since it would be covered by Hector's full uniform, not many people would see it... only those who would take that uniform off :) or Isaac, if the two lived close :)

There is also something to be said about how Hector is treating this gift, which in this theory symbolizes Dracula's favoritism and fondness, things that Hector used to hold dear but have been now poisoned, as Charon's obol, expecting perhaps to be buried with it (he threw away the vest with the Devil Forgemaster crest, but not this...); and then how he planned to use it to pay Rosaly for her kindness, so unused he is to being loved without recompense. A gift from someone who only saw Hector as a tool, to someone who sees him as a person worthy of love. It's beautiful 💖

She keeps silent for some time before sighing and smiling. A very, very tired smile. She drinks the water and hugs Henry close, afraid that she can loose him too.

I do not think she would even be part of the upper class had it not been for her job... kind of a high society it-girl who's thriving on attention (BADLY.. like that ain't her but the nature of her career and her crazy ass parents making her dependent on other people's good opinion of her.. much to think about 🤪) but she has no real status or anything to back it up, only her money. Of course that's not what she tells people 💗 How do they all believe she's the youngest daughter of some forgotten old noble house down on it's luck? Idk but they do <3

HONESTLY i keep forgetting about rat boy's cringefail PM run (that probably lasted about 5 days. not in the au but alas), tbh I think she'd have a good laugh once it's announced over the speakers, unreal scenario because she didnt even know he was active in parliament until a week or so prior BUT she thrives in it, this is affecting her positively by association so teehee. But also this and immediately after his brothers died/were sent to da mines... along with the other insane political shifts happening that she doesn't really bother to keep up with.. she doesn't really piece it together (also doesnt know about his long long absences at the hounds pits pub cause shes not leaving her house) but it's kinda sus 🤨 idk where theyd get the chance to talk at this stage of um everything happening but she'd be like.. hmm prime minister HUH?? things really are looking up for you... kinda convenient how everything has worked out in your favor isnt it 🤨🤨🤨 and hes shaking like a chihuahua like wdym are you accusing me of something >:( (she's right). I do not think he'd tell her about this and would prob get annoyingly defensive about it and shes annoyed by the secrecy. not that she judges but you know...

“Why are so many people wearing masks?”

“Oh, it’s just a kind of tradition thing, why?”

Fi hummed, “I’m curious, I’m not familiar with the practice. What do you mean ‘tradition’?”

Andy considered for a moment, he’d never met someone so incredibly intelligent that had so little knowledge about the world, it was a complete fifty fifty of what she already knew and what needed to be explained.

He was beginning to think her “not from around here” line meant she was from the moon instead of a different country.

It also didn’t help that Andymin didn’t know much about the history of masks either, but he could try.

“Well uh, -preface, I don’t actually know the history very well myself buuut- I think it has something to do with the first king? Something about him being big on wood carving and that somehow got into carving masks, it’s mostly for kids but adults wear ‘em too, I had a great uncle that wore this peach mask everywhere. I don’t think I saw his face even once.”

Fi hummed again, and turned to look at the people around the evening market more closely. Andy followed her gaze, seeing it catch on the few adults wearing masks, and a particularly bright peacock themed one on a kid a bit younger than Fi herself.

Fi tilted her head curiously, “Do the masks mean anything?”

Now this Andy did know, thankfully. “Sometimes yeah! Especially masks that become heirlooms, people say the older the mask the more ‘powerful’ whatever that means. And then there’s just general symbolism stuff, like owls with wisdom, green and courage ‘n so on.”

“That makes sense,” Fi nodded.

Andy just nodded back, nothing left to say for the moment.

Andy knew Fi was smart, she could probably think her way out of three different puzzles before Andy had gotten halfway through the first, but he also knew there were a lot of odd gaps in her knowledge. He knew she could work through these gaps more often than not, had seen her do it, but he also knew she was looking for someone, someone dangerous. He worried the moments she needed to think would take a moment too long.

But making sure she had just one less thing she had to figure out on her own made Andy feel better, if not a bit patronizing.

“But uh, people don’t just wear ‘em for the symbolism, sometimes wearing a mask just makes you feel a bit safer, or more yourself.”

Fi smiled a bit, a rare thing.

“That sounds nice.”

there's a lot of people that have done things in the past that were bad, because they weren't taught any better, or they were in an overall toxic situation where EVERYONE was shitty (like a cult), or they were just at an especially low point and hurt others for it.

I know I don’t owe any of you anything but I still felt compelled to write about my long term absence. And I feel far enough away from the dangerous spot I was in to be able to make this comic. I have a therapist now, and she agreed that making this could be a very cathartic gesture, and the start of properly leaving these thoughts behind me. I am still, at seemingly random times, blindsided by fleeting desires to kill myself. They’re always passing urges, but it’s disarming, and uncomfortable. I worry sometimes that my brain’s spent so long thinking only about suicide that it’s forgotten how to think about anything else. Like, now that I've opened that door for myself, I'll never be able to fully shut it again. But I’m trying my best to encourage my mind in other directions. We'll see how that goes.

I am still donating all proceeds from my store to Palestinian causes. So far, I've donated over $15K, not including donations coming from my own pocket or the fundraising streams which jointly raised around $10K. In the time since I made my initial post about where this money would be going, the focus has shifted from aid organisations to directly donating to escape funds.

If you'd like to do the same, you can look at Operation Olive Branch, which hosts hundreds of Palestinian escape funds or donate to Safebow, which has helped facilitate the safe crossing and securing of important medical procedures for over 150 at-risk palestinians since the beginning of the genocide.
