the aquarium hobby honestly drives me insane sometimes. coming into it as a guy who knows a lot about ecology (even tho i started my first tank less than a year ago), it immediately struck me as odd the sheer amount of cleanliness so many aquarists demand of their tanks. like constantly vaccuuming gravel, or killing snails, or freaking out about "pests" and insisting that everything be quarantined and washed and sterile before throwing it in the tank

like. you're creating a little microhabitat. there has to be a better way than ripping it apart every week because you -checks notes- think bladder snails are ugly

I'm setting up a fish tank for our office which is so fun and great! But I was NOT expecting like half of the people who come and ask about it to ask if I was getting a "sucker fish" to clean the tank (one even thought they were like, a necessity) and I have to remember that no, not everyone knows that plecos can get like a foot long and should probably not be in a 20 gallon tank. A dwarf pleco would probably be pushing it too with the fishes I'm leaning towards stocking the tank with. Like I could probably look at otocinclus but also... they don't "clean" the tank. That's what the filter and the magnetic algae scraper are for.

That shit just grows in my house. It just grows in like every one of my friends houses. It's annoying and makes you ill if you leave it too long but shit all you can do about it other than slap some mold remover on the walls and pray it lasts a few months.
