You know what really gets me about Eleven’s run? Is that it starts off with an amazing thesis statement in the Beast Below which I think sums up the Doctor as a character more than any other line ever has. "What if you were really old, and really kind, and the last of your kind?...All of that pain and misery and loneliness, and it just made it kind."
Yes, sometimes the Doctor needs to be reminded of that fact, as when Amy has Liz 10 hit the abdication button, but the Doctor is kind. He is the man that cheered that "just this once, everyone lives" and was a "coward not killer anyday" and flung away a gun and even after the Time Lord Victorious arc, died to save a single man from dying from radiation. The Doctor and his companions bring out the worst in each other, yes, but they also bring out the best.
And then comes along The Girl Who Waited and the God Complex, which are just an extension of Let's Kill Hitler and eventually Angels Take Manhattan, which are all about how the Doctor takes people as companions because he needs someone to worship him, that he can't bear to see them age and would rather see them young and beautiful, that he is vain, that he is cruel, that he is a god, and I get that interpretation but at the end of the day, the Doctor has never been about vanity or worship or needing someone to keep him in check.
Because yes, companions have reminded him the importance of being kind as part of what is "necessary." The importance of having hope. But it's just that: a reminder. The Doctor is unlike the Master and unlike the rest of the Time Lords because he is compassionate. Because he hates to see children cry. Because he is a coward who is nonetheless brave enough to keep caring, over and over again, no matter how many people die in front of him, no matter how many times he loses those he loves, because the Doctor is a love story as much as it is a ghost story at the end of the day.
And it kills me that the main themes/character arcs of Eleven’s era boil down the Doctor to someone who is not that. Someone who, as the Power of Three ending/Angels Take Manhattan imply, had to have the Ponds to keep him in check. That he could not let them go, could not respect them and their choices like Ten did with Martha. That an entire religion formed itself, kidnapping a child and making her into an assassin, just to stop him from ruining the universe, because he is a god more than a man. That he is a god just like the minotaur, feeding off of people's faith in him, taking children and companions so that he can be nourished, so that he can feel important.
Because even at the Doctor's worst in the Time Lord Victorious Arc, it has never been about worship. It was about grief and loss and love and compassion, because the Doctor has two hearts because he has too much love to fill just one, because that is the kind of person that the Doctor is.
All of that pain and misery and loneliness, and it just made him kind.

Okay so The Star Beast was fun and I'm hyped for Wild Blue Yonder and everything but I am shattered over the new episode of Eleventh Doctor Chronicles.
Broken Hearts is some of the best dark!Doctor Expanded Universe exploration I ever consumed, and that includes The Eleventh Doctor Year Two comics. I am sobbing. I am in tears. I am broken as thoroughly as the Doctor broke Valerie Lockwood.
Me when I can't find any Broken Hearts/Curiosity Shop stan posts to reblog or fic to read to get out the angsty energy...

Some more comparisons that I genuinely lost sleep over last night...
mHmHmhMhm and after this Heathcliff's forehead is described as "shaded with a heavy cloud" -> Eleven literally living on a cloud after Amy's departure... also the fact that Wuthering Heights is written as a story within a story (actually... concentric circles is more like it), Lockwood perpetuating Nelly's perspective in his diary. (reminiscent of Amy's books reaching into the present, similarly to how we as readers get to experience Emily Brönte today) -> "we are all stories in the end"
And... here's what I've lost sleep over:

Riddle’s extremely fearful and aggressive reaction to Dumbledore when he thinks he’s a doctor (and the fact that he assumes this at all and believes he is being lied to) has some pretty dark implications (which of course no one follows up on). Do you have thoughts?
thank you very much for the ask, anon!
and yes - this has occurred to me too... which means that my thoughts come with a trigger warning for the sexual abuse of a child, and are under the cut.
the relevant scene in canon is, of course, this:
“I am Professor Dumbledore.” “Professor?” repeated Riddle. He looked wary. “Is that like doctor? What are you here for? Did she get you in to have a look at me?”  He was pointing at the door through which Mrs. Cole had just left. “No, no,” said Dumbledore, smiling.  “I don’t believe you,” said Riddle. “She wants me looked at, doesn’t she? Tell the truth!”  He spoke the last three words with a ringing force that was almost shocking. It was a command, and it sounded as though he had given it many times before. His eyes had widened and he was glaring at Dumbledore, who made no response except to continue smiling pleasantly. After a few seconds Riddle stopped glaring, though he looked, if anything, warier still. “Who are you?” “I have told you. My name is Professor Dumbledore and I work at a school called Hogwarts. I have come to offer you a place at my school - your new school, if you would like to come.”  Riddle’s reaction to this was most surprising. He leapt from the bed and backed away from Dumbledore, looking furious.  “You can’t kid me! The asylum, that’s where you’re from, isn’t it? ‘Professor,’ yes, of course - well, I’m not going, see? That old cat’s the one who should be in the asylum. I never did anything to little Amy Benson or Dennis Bishop, and you can ask them, they’ll tell you!”
the surface-level reading of this scene - which is clearly what the text wants us to go for - is that riddle thinks he's about to be institutionalised for being "mad" - and, specifically, that he thinks that what dumbledore has been told is his "madness" is actually his magic.
[he is also clearly meant to be read as panicking a little bit that he's fucked around torturing his fellow children and is now about to find out...]
that riddle accepts he's a wizard so easily - and that he is so reassured by dumbledore agreeing that he's not mad - is something the text wants us to read as sinister. him immediately describing himself as "special" is set up as a precursor to the adult voldemort's delusions of grandeur - which the entire arc of the series, ending in his death as an ordinary man, is designed to undermine.
but i've always disliked this reading. the eleven-year-old riddle - a magical child raised around non-magical people - is objectively correct to describe his powers as "special" [in that they make him identifiably different from the crowd] within the context in which he lives. the word choice is nowhere near as deep as dumbledore decides - he's clearly known since he was very young that he's a wizard, but he didn't have the precise language to describe this fundamental part of himself until dumbledore offered it; prior to that, "special" is a perfectly reasonable alternative term.
and, in always knowing that he's a wizard, he also knows that he doesn't have a mental illness - but he must also know that this is something it's near impossible for him to prove.
in the real world, if i spoke to a patient who told me:
“I can make things move without touching them. I can make animals do what I want them to do, without training them. I can make bad things happen to people who annoy me. I can make them hurt if I want to.”
then i would be correct to describe them as experiencing psychosis. and i might - depending on their other symptoms - have reasonable cause to admit them [voluntarily or not] for psychiatric treatment.
riddle is - of course - demonstrably not psychotic. but it's not unreasonable that mrs cole would assume he is - the world she lives in, as a muggle [even if she's a religious one], is one in which people do not possess the ability to move objects or control animals with their minds, and if one of her charges is convinced that he can, then she's justified in seeking medical intervention.
[that psychiatric treatment in the 1930s can be described without exaggeration as inhumane is another matter...]
which is to say, i think we can easily suppose that mrs cole has - prior to dumbledore's arrival - succeeded in having riddle "looked at", and that the idea that he's mentally ill and should be committed to an asylum has been mentioned before. i think most of us would be instinctively [and angrily] wary of doctors if this happened to us, regardless of how nice the doctors in question were.
and maybe that's all there is to it.
and maybe it isn't...
in the doylist text, the eleven-year-old riddle's personality is the way it is because he's the villain of the series. where harry is preternaturally capable, even as a child, of all the things the series defines as admirable - above all, enduring difficulty without complaint - riddle is preternaturally incapable of them. he's meant to come across as unambiguously sinister - and the fact that the text repeatedly emphasises that he has control over his unpleasant traits invites us to view him as someone who is acting with full agency. that he lives in an orphanage is a trope which the text uses, like a campy horror film might, predominately to underscore how creepy he is - and the text, in keeping with its general lack of interest in states and their institutions, never really prompts us to interrogate the impact of his childhood upon the course his life takes.
[this is despite the fact that voldemort's reliving of the night he killed the potters in deathly hallows is an incredibly accurate depiction of ptsd...]
but it's also the case that the eleven-year-old riddle's behaviour and personality fits a pattern we might expect to see in a child who is being abused, sexually or otherwise:
he's aggressive, he has a hair-trigger temper, and he becomes distressed even by behaviour - such as dumbledore speaking mildly and calmly - which would not ordinarily be expected to provoke such a reaction.
his broader emotional state is fractious. his mood changes sharply, he seems to feel emotions very profoundly, he struggles to control his emotional response to things, he's extremely easily irritated, he's attention-seeking - and he particularly seeks negative attention, and he's very highly-strung. his admission in deathly hallows that he feels calm before he kills - or before he otherwise eradicates a threat or a problem - comes with the flip-side that he's someone who appears, when things aren't going well or he finds himself in a situation which he can't control, to become quite anxious. which is a trauma response.
he's extremely isolated. the text presents the fact that he has no friends as a deliberate choice - "lord voldemort has never had a friend, nor do i believe that he has ever wanted one" - and his relationship with everyone else he ever meets, including his fellow orphans, is defined by the text as exclusively involving him controlling, manipulating, and punishing them. or: he is always the more powerful person in the pairing. but this need for control can be read as self-protective just as easily as it can be read as sinister. there are hints in canon that riddle is not just some malevolent force in the orphanage preying on mild-mannered innocents. for example, billy stubbs, the owner of the rabbit he kills, is targeted by riddle as revenge: “Billy Stubbs’s rabbit... well, Tom said he didn’t do it and I don’t see how he could have done, but even so, it didn’t hang itself from the rafters, did it? [...] But I’m jiggered if I know how he got up there to do it. All I know is he and Billy had argued the day before." on the rare occasions billy turns up in fics, he's usually - i find - written very like neville - sweet and guileless and a bit pathetic. but the alternative reading - especially when we take into account that riddle attacks the rabbit rather than billy himself - is that billy is someone he would be afraid to physically confront. indeed, it's striking that voldemort - at all stages of his life - is described as being quite physically fragile. not only is he very thin, but he's always cold and his heartbeat is described several times in canon as irregular. i think this is supposed to be a comment on the physical changes he undergoes the more horcruxes he makes - although the idea that the soul would affect the heart doesn't actually align with how the series understands the soul to relate to the body - but it can also be interpreted perfectly legitimately as something he was experiencing prior to splitting his soul. i am committed to the headcanon that riddle was quite a sickly child - and that this is one of the things which drives his fear of death - and i'm also committed to the idea that his obsession with magic is because the enormity of his magical power makes up for his physical lack. he can defeat - and humiliate and frighten and remove the threat of - billy or dennis [or even an adult man?] with magic. without it, if they were to physically overpower him, then he wouldn't be able to throw them off.
he is extremely nervous about being alone in a room with dumbledore - someone he doesn't know, and who he assumes is connected to a profession [and, maybe, who knows any other doctors he's been previously made to see...] of which he is frightened.
he doesn't trust or confide in anyone - which, as a child, means particularly that he doesn't trust or confide in adults in positions of responsibility. he's clearly uneasy with the idea of finding himself in the subordinate position in an adult-child relationship when dumbledore offers to take him shopping for school supplies - potentially because he's worried that dumbledore will try and dictate or restrict what he's allowed to buy unless he behaves in a certain way... and i am always very struck that dumbledore says in half-blood prince: "He was very guarded with me; he felt, I am sure, that in the thrill of discovering his true identity he had told me a little too much. He was careful never to reveal as much again." this is presented in the text as evidence that dumbledore is the only person of whom voldemort is afraid - by which the text means that voldemort acknowledges that dumbledore knows that an ordinary man, mortal and unimpressive, lurks behind the mask of unassailable power he has created for himself; and which the text thinks is a good thing. but we can also read it as a self-protective act on riddle's part. in his excitement, he offers dumbledore information [that he is known to be a liar, that he is in trouble a lot, that mrs cole dislikes him and is disinclined to believe anything he says] which would give dumbledore - or anyone in a similar position of power and presumed respectability - cover to abuse him, safe in the knowledge that he would be unlikely to be believed if he reported it.
he doesn't appear to feel safe in the orphanage and he's frequently absent from it - by his own admission, he spends a huge amount of time wandering around london on his own, which may even involve him staying away for several days at a time. nobody appears to notice or care about this.
he's very independent - which the text again presents as evidence of his deliberate self-isolation and rejection of the bonds of love and friendship - and his independence is unusual for a child his age [i.e. that he is capable of doing all his own shopping for school].
his knowledge of violence - i.e. how he designs the trip to the cave to be maximally psychologically devastating for dennis and amy and devoid of repercussions for himself - is also more advanced and methodical than would be expected in a child of his age. again, the text uses this to emphasise how inextricable the child-voldemort is from his adult self - and also, to some extent, to underscore the intellectual brilliance [his magic is also more advanced than is normal for a child] which his narrative archetype [the exceptional villain who is defeated by the everyman hero] requires. but we can also read it as evidence of his own victimisation. a common sign that a child is being sexually abused is that they display a knowledge of sexual behaviour which is more advanced than is reasonable for a child of their age - for example, knowing in detail how a sex act is performed, or fluently using sexual slang which they have no chance of knowing either from age-appropriate settings like school-based sex education or conversations with a parent or trusted adult, or from the sort of enthusiastic hoarding of rude words and phrases all children enjoy as they grow up. riddle's precise, clinical knowledge of how to manipulate, frighten, torture, and control can be seen as something similar. if he can - at eleven or younger - methodically break down another child until they're "never quite right" again, then this is because he's learned how to from someone.
he keeps secrets. and he also goes out of his way to extract them. his grooming of ginny in chamber of secrets - he manipulates her into confiding things she wants to keep to herself, promises he won't tell anyone, and then uses the threat that he will to get her to do his bidding - is an absolutely textbook example of how abusers use the idea of secrecy to control their victims. it doesn't make his abuse of ginny any less inexcusable if we assume he learns this from being on the other side of things.
dumbledore understands his little cache of objects as trophies he's taken from victims - and the text takes the view that dumbledore is correct in this assessment. that hoarding trophies is something widely associated with serial killers means that this is yet another thing which underlines how creepy - and how like his adult self - the child-voldemort is. but it's also the case that the adult - and teenage - voldemort places a lot of emphasis on gift-giving as part of his control over other people. the two most obvious examples in canon are wormtail being given his shiny hand as a reward for helping voldemort get his body back, and slughorn being buttered up with crystallised pineapple before voldemort asks him about horcruxes. the text thinks this is sinister - and one of the reasons it does this is because gift-giving is a grooming tactic. the text also clearly thinks this isn't behaviour voldemort has learned from the other side. and yet a common sign that a child is being abused is if they have possessions it doesn't make sense for them to own [i.e. a child from a low-income background who is suddenly decked in designer clothes] and which they can't or won't explain how they came by. riddle's cache isn't luxurious - although he's so poor that a yoyo or a mouth organ probably is a luxury to him - but there's also nothing in canon which precludes the objects being presents, rather than stolen goods. if the spell dumbledore uses to make the box rattle is caused by a statement which is both relatively ambiguous and dependent on dumbledore's subjective personal morality - is there anything in this room he's acquired through nefarious means? - then the spell would still work as it does in canon if riddle was an abuse victim given the objects as "rewards". dumbledore's tendency to locate right and wrong in the individual and dumbledore's belief that good people should steadfastly endure misery means he can be written entirely canon-coherently as someone who would think a victim who appeared to collude in their own abuse - such as a victim who "offered" a sexual act because their abuser promised them something if they did - was behaving consensually, manipulatively, and nefariously. and it's worth noting that when riddle doesn't know what dumbledore has done to make the box rattle, he is "unnerved". when he realises dumbledore thinks he's stolen the objects - and that he has no interest in forcing him to admit this aloud - he is "unabashed". perhaps because he's just received proof that an experience he doesn't want to talk about is still secret...
on the other hand, the objects could indeed be stolen - because petty criminality and anti-social behaviour, especially in pre-teen children, is also a sign of abuse.
he can be extremely obsequious - when dumbledore tells him to watch how he speaks he becomes "unrecognisably polite", he ruthlessly flatters slughorn, and he is cringingly deferential to hepzibah smith. the text understands this as evidence that his apparent charm is only superficial - another trait associated in the popular imagination with serial killers [and it's striking that so much about the young voldemort - handsome, charming, seemingly quiet and polite, true evil lurking underneath the mask - is exactly like the pop-culture persona which has been created for ted bundy...]. voldemort himself agrees that his charm is performative in chamber of secrets: “If I say it myself, Harry, I’ve always been able to charm the people I needed. So Ginny poured out her soul to me, and her soul happened to be exactly what I wanted." but his obsequiousness is also a fawn response - a way of minimising a threat by attempting to please the person issuing it. he becomes "unrecognisably polite" - after all - in response to this: Dumbledore raised his eyebrows. “If, as I take it, you are accepting your place at Hogwarts - ” “Of course I am!” “Then you will address me as ‘Professor’ or ‘sir.’ ”  Riddle’s expression hardened for the most fleeting moment before he said, in an unrecognisably polite voice, “I’m sorry, sir. I meant - please, Professor, could you show me - ?”  riddle could reasonably interpret what dumbledore says here as a threat to prevent him attending hogwarts - even though dumbledore evidently doesn't mean it in this way - and he switches to being fawning because this is something he really doesn't want to happen...
do i think that any of this is what the text was actually going for? no. and nor do i think that reading riddle as a victim of abuse excuses the violence which the adult voldemort goes on to perpetuate.
but i think it is a reading of his characterisation which is both canon-plausible and interesting - a strange, sickly child with a reputation for cruelty and dishonesty being abused by the respectable doctor who is constantly called in to treat his coughs and wheezes, who buys him little presents and charms him into telling him secrets, who then [to paraphrase the teenage voldemort] feeds him a few secrets of his own, safe in the knowledge that nobody will ever believe him if he tries to get help.
and i also think this a reading which is sincerely important.
a significant contributor to the prevalence of child abuse - no matter what exact form this abuse takes - is that we are culturally conditioned to imagine that both the abuser and the victim will look and behave in a certain way if the abuse is "real".
and this means, all too often, that we take child abuse more seriously when the victim is "sympathetic" - when they're from a stable home, and their family are respectable, and they do well in school, and they're polite and sweet, and they look innocent, and they behave perfectly appropriately for their age, and nobody would ever dare to say that they come across as older than they are, and they're white, and they don't have a history of lying, and they don't have a history of attention-seeking, and they don't have a criminal record, and they're not abusive themselves, and there's absolutely no way of suggesting that they colluded in their abuse, and the perpetrator was someone who looks like a child abuser.
someone who is creepy, low-status, ugly, unpopular. someone who everyone can tell is socially abnormal, someone who nobody would ever intentionally permit to be around their children. not someone who is charming, well-respected, attractive, rich, popular, trustworthy. not someone who has a loving family and a happy home. not someone we might be friends with.
but many perpetrators of child abuse are these second group of people. and many victims of child abuse are "unsympathetic", when their social positions and reputations are compared to their abusers' own.
they lie. they steal. they're attention-seeking. they're vindictive. they have trouble distinguishing between imagination and reality. they're violent. they're bullies. they hurt animals. they abuse other children. they take drugs. they're mentally-ill. they come from broken homes. they're in the care of the state. they're dirty. they're poor. they're odd. they're behind at school and badly-behaved in the classroom. they do things which allow their abuse to be dismissed as something they brought upon themselves - they speak or dress in certain ways, they pose provocatively in pictures and post them on the internet, they are known to be sexually active outside of the context of their abuse, they lie about being over the age of consent, they engage in sexual behaviour with an adult abuser in a way which appears [even though it isn't, and there's never a circumstance in which it will be] to be consensual or for their own personal gain, they are flattered by the attention they receive from someone who is important or attractive grooming them, they have complicated - and not always wholly negative - feelings towards their abusers.
and they are still - unequivocally - victims, and what happens to them is still - unequivocally - abuse.
tom riddle is an unsympathetic victim - not only of any potential abuse, but also of the horrors of his life which are explicit on the canon page: that he is raised in an orphanage; that he is grieving; that he knows nothing about his family; that he is thought to be mad.
the absence of any institutional response to his childhood experiences - dumbledore, by his own admission, discloses nothing about riddle to his fellow teachers - is a flaw repeated again and again in the worldbuilding of the harry potter series.
hogwarts - and the wizarding [and muggle] state more broadly - doesn't intervene in any case of neglect or abuse, from harry to snape to voldemort's own parents. the series' individualistic morality means that we aren't supposed to interrogate these collective failings. and the series' black-and-white view of good and evil - and its general belief that violence is fine if the person it happens to "deserves" it - means that it has no interest in examining the ways that poverty, isolation, and neglect are risk factors; that straightforwardly unpleasant people can still be victims; that victims can go on to become perpetrators without their victimhood ceasing to matter; and that the abuse of children usually takes place not in silence and secrecy, concealed in ways which make it fine for adults not to notice it and not to intervene, but in plain sight.
this is knowledge it never hurts to refresh. thinking about lord voldemort's childhood might be an usual way of doing so... but it is an effective one nonetheless...

Most Controversial Doctor Who Opinions I have:
Eleven was wild as FUCK for marrying River and then acting like they had an awesome relationship. It would’ve been better to have more Twelve River than whatever that was.
If Clara did half the shit Rose did, y’all would be tearing your hair out. Clara was the most complex character and you fell for Moffats silly little trap of thinking she was selfish. THATS THE WHOLE POINT.
Ten was a bigger asshole than Nine and the only reason people think differently is because Nine owned it and Ten acted like it never happened and you believed him.
The whole River being the daughter of Amy was so unbelievably stupid to me. Boooooooo make her an enigma. Make her mysterious and unknowable. We don’t need to know…woman of mystery.
Clara was the love of Twelve’s life but I am unbelievably glad that she and Bill never met because then Twelve would have to explain how one mid twenties woman was like his granddaughter and the other was like his cougar girlfriend.
I am a hater of the “bring along the boyfriend trope” in Doctor Who. Only two situations where this worked was Rory because Rory was iconic and Danny Pink watching the Doctor openly flirt with Clara. (That last one only works because he immediately died).
If we’re going to do so much slapping, Moffat, let’s have some stabbing too. Cmon, stabbing.

Joe goldberg obsessing over a shy/quiet reader Hcs
Tumblr media
He thought you were so vulnerable, like you needed to be protected from this cruel world.
He spied on you from the counter at the bookstore, you looked so small in your sweater and his heart fluttered when you got excited over a book you were looking for. He could make you that happy, he could protect that happiness.
He will find everything out about you from what your hobbies are to how you like your drink made at starbucks.
”y/n likes to read a lot of different genres, I could totally talk to her about that!” Joe thought as he scrolled through your instagram looking for things about you.
He will always be your shoulder to cry on when things get hard.
”I think Amy is a bad friend y/n” Joe said while wrapping an arm around you in a side hug. He pressed you into his side, your face shying away and hiding in the space of his shoulder and neck. “She can't keep using you as a therapist when her life turns to shit.” he continues while rubbing your back comfortingly.
He loves when you start to come out of your shell around him and is angered when you tell him why you hide your bright personality.
”She's so sweet, why did she hide this part of herself from me” Joe thought as he watched you putting books away at the shop. Later on he complimented her and told her how sweet she is. “Thanks Joe, I’ve had way too many people say I talk too much and that I’m too energetic so I choose to hide it.” Joe could feel his blood boil at that, he hates to think you have been hurt like that.
Will invite you out to lunch every week so the both of you can catch up. AKA: Joe trying to get new information out of you.
”so, how’s everything going?” Joe asked as the two of you sat in a cafe waiting for your orders. You take a sip of your drink and Joe couldn't help but smile as he could see the wheels turning in your head. Well, Julia has been-”
When anxiety strikes Joe helps you out, he will always be there.
“Deep breaths y/n, you got this” Joe said, holding you close and petting your hair. You got yourself worked up over some college class presentation and Joe was quick enough to notice the symptoms before it became a panic attack. Joe distracted you enough for you to calm down and you cuddled together until you were able to get up and do the assignment; with Joe's help of course.
Joe's obsession grows when you invite him over to your place to stay the night.
As the episode's credits roll you yawn and stretch, looking at the clock you make the realization that it's eleven thirty. Joe is lazily sprawled out on the other side of the couch, when he catches you looking at him a smile spreads across his face. “You could stay the night if you want, I wouldn't want you falling asleep behind the wheel on the way back to your place.” You said, smiling back at him. Joe's heart fluttered, He was so lucky to have such a sweet girl in his life; his sweet girl.
When Joe stays the night he steals your clothes and puts them in his bag he brings with him.
It started with small things like a shirt or a hoodie that smelt like you, but then Joe would get bolder and bolder. He would steal your underwear and bralettes when the doubt dissipates and the confidence takes over.
It's game over when you tell him you have a crush on him, he's never letting you go.
”Now I know she'll never leave me” Joe thought as she looked at your relaxed form lying against him. He squeezed you in his embrace smiling when you squeezed him back.

don’t marry him! percy jackson ⋆.ೃ࿔*:・
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
aged up!percy jackson x fem!chase!reader
a love confession like amy and laurie’s from little women with percy and his best friend‘s, annabeth chase’s, sister.
genre; best friends to lovers
warnings; ooc!percy (?)
Tumblr media
Percy Jackson had been your best friend since you were fourteen and you had to go with him and the hunters of Artemis on a quest to save Artemis and also your sister, Annabeth.
This was the start of your friendship and you had always thought he was kind of cute, well as cute as a fourteen year old boy going through puberty can be. But the closer you became, the stronger your feelings for him got, but you never said anything because you knew that Annabeth liked him and she was your sister.
Besides, you knew Percy liked Annabeth so he would never return your feelings for him.
Years went by with Percy still being your best friend. During the years, Percy and Annabeth had started dating but they broke up when they realized they were better off as friends. But when that happened, you were already dating someone else, someone who you thought was good enough to make you happy for the rest of your life.
Even though your feelings for him weren’t as strong as your feelings for Percy used to be.
Now you’re 25 and your boyfriend proposed to you. And you said yes.
When Percy heard about it, he felt like his world was crumbling down. You, the girl he had a crush on since he was twelve and saw her at Camp Halfblood for the first time was getting married.
For him it has always been you, but when he was seventeen, he decided to be stupid. He thought that you would never return his feelings, so he thought it was best to move on from you and soon he found himself in a relationship with Annabeth, your sister.
It didn’t take long for the both of them notice that they never really saw each other in a romantic way and decided to stay friends instead. But when they broke up Annabeth told him that she knew about his feelings for you and that you also return those feelings.
When Percy went to talk to you about it, it was already too late. You were in a relationship with someone else, someone else who was not him.
So when Percy heard about your engagement he knew he had to come and see you, he knew he had to speak now or he would loose his one chance of being with you.
You were at your apartment when he came knocking at your door like a mad man, luckily your fiancée was not home, he doesn’t like Percy very much. When you opened the door Percy was breathing heavily and staring at you with such an intensity in his eyes that you had to look to the ground to regain yourself again.
He still had that effect on you, even eleven years later.
“Don’t marry him.” He says.
Your heart drops.
A beat passes.
“What?”
Without your invitation he moved past you into your apartment. You couldn’t do anything but stare at the place he was just standing at, with your back now facing him.
Percy sighs and even though you can’t see it you know exactly the face he’s making right now, he has his eyes squeezed shut and his lips pressed tightly together.
“Don’t marry him.” He speaks again.
This time, you close the door and turn around to face him. Your heart beats so fast you’re afraid he can see it.
“Why?” You ask him, head tilted and eyes squinted so he wouldn’t see what he was actually making you feel, like you were fourteen and in love again. But he sees right through you, because he knows you.
He tilts his head, mimicking your expression, you know he has a habit of doing that, “You know why.”
You shake your head, “No I don’t.” You whisper out. But oh gods you do. You are staring directly into his eyes with such warmth that it makes him feel dizzy.
He stares back. “Yes you do.”
You shake your head once more, pressing your lips together, “No. No. You don’t get to do this to me. Not now.”
He takes a step closer, “Yes.”
You see his hand reaching out for you but you take a step back.
“No. Percy, you’re being mean. Stop it.” Your voice is barely a hoarse whisper and you feel the tears welling up in your eyes. You squeeze them shut so he wouldn’t see you cry. “You don’t get to say that. Not now. Not when I’m engaged damn it. Not when I’m finally happy.”
He brings his hand up to cup your cheek. “You’re lying and we both know it. I know you. I know you when you’re happy. Do you seriously want to spend the rest of your life with someone that only makes you half as happy as you deserve to be?”
You push his hand away and the tears start falling freely. “It’s better than not being happy at all. Gods. Percy you’re just lonely because you’re not with Annabeth, it’s okay to admit that, you don’t want me like that.”
“What? No you don’t get to say that. Not when I’ve been in love with you since you since we were twelve.”
You looked at him like a wounded animal. “Then why were you in a relationship with my sister? Huh? I always saw the way you looked at her, you’ve been in love with her since we were twelve.”
You let out a long sigh, and stare to the ground. "I have been second to Annabeth my whole life, in everything. I will not be second to her in this. And I won't be the person you settle for just because you can not have her.” You lift up your head, meeting his eyes.
“Please, y/n.” He pleads. “I’m in love with you, not with her. You won’t be second to her, because you’ve always come first for me.”
“Stop it. I won't. I can't do it, Percy. Not when I’ve spent almost my entire life loving you.” You turn around and open the door and mention for him to leave.
To your surprise he does without saying anything.
But when he’s out of the door, he turns to look you in the eyes one last time before he’s gone.
Tumblr media
You’re dressed in all black and standing in front your fathers grave when Annabeth comes to stand next to you. It’s true, you’ve never had that much of a close relationship like the Stoll brothers for example, but you loved her dearly.
But even though, you’re only one year younger than her you can’t help but feel as though she is centuries older than you.
She has always been so much wiser than you, and that’s mostly because Athena is her mother and not yours, but she always knew things and she knew how to keep her emotions in check.
When you were younger, you were secretly jealous of her friendship with Percy and Grover. The three of them seemed so happy with each other, but you didn’t dare to talk to the three of them because you thought they didn’t want you in their group.
So you chose to watch them from afar.
And then your sister went missing and it felt like your whole world was caving in. So you went on a quest to save her and that’s when you really got to know Percy, and he became your best friend.
When Annabeth returned home, you two became a whole lot closer and soon you found yourself in their friend group.
“I’m going to miss him.” Annabeth’s voice pulls you out of your thoughts. Her voice is firm, yet gentle, like an older sisters voice is supposed to be and you want to cuddle into her and make her read her favorite book to you just like she did when you were kids.
Your lips tremble and your hand reaches for hers, “Yeah, me too.”
All of the sudden, Annabeth turns around to face you and she asks, “Why did you turn down Percy?”
“What?” You ask flabbergasted. “How do you know about that?”
She looks you in the eyes, “He told me. So why did you turn him down? I know about your feelings for him, and I know how he feels about you.”
“I was engaged Annabeth. Besides, he only wants me, because he can’t have you. And I’m not gonna go and play second choice just because he’s lonely.” You tell her, and try to avoid your gaze because you know, the second she looks you in the eyes it’s like she can see right through you.
“That’s not true.” She says.
“What?”
“That’s not true. Y/n, that boy has been in love with you since he saw you at Camp Halfblood for the first time. It’s always been you, and I’m not mad about that. Me and him were only together because we had been confused because of the war and all it’s losses.” She says that with so much honesty it makes you almost dizzy. “He loves you. And you’d be an idiot to turn him down when I know you feel the same. If you didn’t, you wouldn’t have blown off your engagement.”
She leaves before you can say anything.
But you’re not alone for long, because Percy fills in the space where Annabeth was just standing.
You don’t look at him.
“I came as soon as I heard. I know I didn’t know your father very well, but I didn’t want you to be alone.” He says and you can feel his gaze burning into you.
“I’m not alone, I have Annabeth.” But you knew you also needed Percy, he was still your best friend after all.
Then it’s silent.
“He’s never gonna see me get married one day. He’ll never get to meet his grandchildren.” You manage to get out because suddenly your eyes were filled with tears again. “I’m gonna miss him so much.”
Without saying anything, he pulls you into a hug. And you let him. He smells like the ocean and also mint, he smells like home.
You pull away and he wipes the tears off your cheeks and with his hands.
You take a deep breath and say, “I’m not marrying him.”
He looks down at you, “Yeah, I heard about that.”
"And you don’t have to say anything or do anything. It just didn't feel right. We don't need to say anything.” You say before he can he can say anything.
But Percy interrupts you by putting his hands on your cheeks, pulling your face to his and laying his lips on yours.
You feel warm and fuzzy inside and it makes you feel like you’re thirteen with a crush again. The kiss is gentle, and you know he puts all his love and adoration for you into it and you return it with just as much love and emotion.
When you pull away for air, you’re both smiling from ear to ear.
“Gods, I love you so much.” He says before pulling you into another kiss. This time, it’s messy and full of smiles you can both barely contain but you wouldn’t have it any other way.

it’s sad how the conclusion of amy and eleven’s shared arc is that fairy tales aren’t real and god and magic are children’s fantasies that have to be abandoned to ascend to adulthood. like you would think because the doctor is literally a magical god it would be encouraging of wonder but the doctor begs amy to be worth believing in and she begs him to be worth believing in and the conclusion of that is that the doctor as her god is so deeply flawed that the conclusion is god is dead/god is no better than a human/give up on god as a savior… amelia pond becomes amy williams the doctor goes back to being all alone he’s grown up he’s a skeptic and the magic is all gone. because he had to give up on HIS god too. if a little girl cannot keep magic and has to be destroyed by touching something vast and beautiful as god then what the fuck is the point of being a god and bothering to try to help anybody

All the Doctors that I've watched and if I would feel safe traveling with them or not
Nine
Absolutely he's my favorite
Doctor Doc Martins and I would get along extremely well
We would travel and have a blast
He would look out for me and be concerned for my safety
Treats well all of his companions (Rose, Mickey (yes he's a companion to me) and Jack) so would tread me well too
The only doctor that has a 0% companion mortality rate
9/10 would probably still die but wouldn't be his fault
Ten
Fuck no
I love him but I don't feel safe with that man
Series 2 he only cares for one person and that is Rose Tyler
Would immediately die because he's too preoccupied making heart eyes at her to even learn my name
Series 3 he's too heart broken
You've seen how he treated Martha and Jack I would be dead in my first episode and he would still not know my name
Series 4 maybe but I wouldn't put my money on making out of it alive
Would learn my name before my death tho
None of his companions ended up dead but one of them is in another dimension, three of them are soldiers (one was studying to become a doctor (bla bla he turned someone who was meant to save lives to someone that takes them bla bla)) and another has no memories
4/10 but only because he's pretty
Eleven
Absolutely not
The amount of times this guy let Rory die or almost die? Too many to count
My boy Rory almost dies in every episode the only thing keeping him going is his wife's love for him
And unfortunately I don't have a wife
Left Amy to wait for 12 years asshole move
Do you feel safe? I don't feel safe
Admittedly, until now, he's the doctor with the smallest body count but knowing what I heard around that's going to change
Makes too many bad decisions and is very absentminded
Haven't finished his run yet so idk what happens to Amy and Rory but I hope they both make it out live with the smallest amount of trauma possible
3/10 I feel like he would forget me and end up with me dead I'm too Rory coded and, as stated before, I don't have an Amy to keep me alive
All of this is in good fun I don't mean to offend anyone. At the end of they day they're all my babygirls and I like them very much. I'll probably make a new one when I finish eleven's run :}

Can you do the "all the Doctors" thing, but what would they do if they started a band?
I certainly can!
One: Gets gently pushed into it by Vicki. Can actually play the piano rather well, and starts chuckling to themselves when he starts getting into it. Ian and Barbara got a little sick of the solos after over half an hour, though.
Two: You'd think that a recorder wouldn't be a good instrument to play in a band, but you would be as pleasantly surprised as Two was. Gets on surprisingly well with the hippie crowd, although Jamie has to keep them from getting pulled into smoking illicit substances which may or may not be legal. With time lords, who knows what the effects could be?
Three: Can practically play any instrument given to them because "my dear fellow, it would be vain to explain why". Jo loves it when they play Beatles songs. Has an unfortunate habit of playing in venues that later get attacked or blown up by the Masters scheme of the week.
Four: Pulls the weirdest looking string instument you've ever seen out of their enormous coat, plays some weird jazz-fusion stuff that sounds like a cat making love to a washing machine, grins unnervingly and walks off stage. The stage is a random cafe that hadn't even asked them to play. No-one ever speaks of it again, just in case they come back.
Five: Likes to play ABBA on the rhythym guitar, much to the amusement of their kids young friends. Insists on explaining the themes of each song before starting. Has an unfortunate habit of falling over halfway through their set and knocking themselves unconscious. Given the time period, they often get requests to play "That's Entertainment"; doesn't mind playing it but wishes Tegan and Nyssa would stop sneaking away halfway through to snog in a cupboard somewhere.
Six: Loves playing the drums. Their main inspiration is Keith Moon. Mel says it's good exercise for them. Peri is just glad that they don't wear their coat whilst trashing about with the drumsticks, because that would be a chasm too far.
Seven: Spoons. Ace rolls her eyes but knows that they enjoy it. Is surprisingly popular amongst latter-day beatniks and jazz fans. Often gives some lecture after each song. The difference is that, unlike with Five, people actually listen instead of groaning.
Eight: Just has to sing. You would not be able to stop them. They are surprisngly good at it, although sometimes you wonder whether the words have a hidden meaning.
War: Doesn't play anything, for obvious reasons.
Nine: Bass guitar, and in a very no-nonsence sort of way. Can get down and be funky with it. Rose loves it, and enjoys dancing along, which makes Nine very happy.
Ten: Maraccas, weirdly enough, and often with Donna. Both of them are laughing. The rest of the band doesn't really understand why but it seems to work so who cares?
Eleven: Glockenspiel. No, seriously. Amy and Rory don't know where it came from, and it's actually starting to get a little worrying. Especially when Eleven insists on practicing at 3am with no warning.
Twelve: Lead guitar, obviously. Nothing but shredding solos and awesome punk-style riffs. The fact that they don't have a top-selling album is mindboggling.
Thirteen: Fiddle in a folk-punk-fusion band. Very good at it and is having the time of their life. Loves to dance whilst playing. The happy love songs are their favourite, but has a habit of tripping over their feet on stage if they catch Yaz smiling at them.
Fugitive: Doesn't play anything; again, for obvious reasons.
TenThree/David Doctor/ sorry-mr-tennant-i-cannot-call-you-fourteen: Traded in the maraccas for a trumpet. Donna has a trumpet now too. Things seem to be going well for them.
Fifteen: Sampler. Creates tons of exciting sounds based on all of their previous lives, blending them together in a hopeful, joyeous mix. Well, so far anyway. We'll have to wait and see...
Thanks for the ask!

Random Doctor Who Hcs: Favorite Types of Touch!!
Nine loves hand holding. I feel like Nine is very closed off (emotionally) but this man grasps Rose’s hand all the time. So much. First thing he does. And he just…never stops. While dancing. While running. While walking. Probably while sleeping. Ultimate sign of trust for him. Long as he’s got Rose’s hand in his everything is okay.
Hugs? Yeah. Loves a good congratulatory hug/clasp on the back. But again, huge fan of hand holding, him.
Ten loves hugs. Like he and Rose also hold hands through all of time and space but he loves hugs. And he needs one constantly. In constant need of a hug. Sir was born out of love and after Rose leaves is constantly touch-starved and clingy. Loves to pick people up as he hugs them. Little spin. Totally would benefit from being compressed into a zip file.
Enjoys people (rose, Donna) messing with his hair. Just like a little scratch and he’ll melt. He’s like a cat.
He’s very touchy with Donna who has learned to just deal with it. He’s taller than her so he’ll just lean down and put his chin on her shoulder. Or lean against her while watching movies. Just. puddle of time lord. Personal space who?
After Martha stops being his companion, he’s much more open to touch with Martha. He enjoyed hugging her before but his hugs just feel so much better afterwards. Holding hands with Martha is also pretty nice (makes him miss Rose though).
But I think also if he’s being particularly broody he won’t let himself be touched nor will he seek it out because’s always alright. (Donna’s got him though).
Slightly touch-adverse post Midnight. If it’s a stranger and he doesn’t initiate it, he’s not going to enjoy it. If it’s someone he trusts then he’s more open to it and will likely reciprocate. But a stranger’s hands on him start to feel a little too much like the shuttle. Especially if its a harsh grab.
Tentoo gets to touch Rose all the time. Its great. Favorite type of touch is probably cuddling and kissing because he can do that now. Any time he wants without fear.
Eleven likes subtle touches. Grabbing Amy’s arm while he’s excited. Patting Rory on the back or shoulder. Poking someone. He moves around too much for other types of touches so he’ll give little swipes of affection.
He does still enjoy hugs though, particularly from Amy.
I think if the Doctor’s hugged for too long he’ll like shut down or something.
Amy discovers the head scratchy thing and it like, shuts him off. Completely slack. Amy finds it hilarious and so fascinating and 11 hates it so much. It is a good way to bring him back down to earth though.
“Rory, come look at this.”
“Do you feel better?” “yes. Don’t think I’m not mad at you anymore Pond.”
River also knows about this and threatens to use it for evil all the time. She and Amy have definitely chased 11 around the TARDIS, only for 11 to run into Rory’s arms thinking that Rory is safe. He’s not. Rory knows about the spot. Rory is not safe.
I don’t think 11 really knows how to respond to kissing. Not his favorite. Could do without it/give him a warning if you’re going to kiss him.
He’s gotten used to kissing River but sometimes he’s still ick about it.
He does love giving Amy forehead kisses though!
Martha likes cheek kisses. She seems like that kind of girl. A little smooch to the cheek. She’ll do it with her family, they’ll do it with her. She’ll give them to her friends. She gives one to the Doctor post-companionship. She gives them to Jack. He gives them to her. Its very cute.
Fourteen is touchy as heck. Oh my gosh. It’s different from 10 though where he was constantly touch-starved, no Fourteen just loves giving affection to his friends.
Most affectionate with Donna. They’re like glued to each other.
Gives Mel enthusiastic hugs too.
Likes giving more than receiving. He very much needs to be held for a good minute but he much prefers giving hugs and other forms of physical affection TO other people rather than them to him.

Twelve Little Troublemakers (Rhett Abbott x Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: You and Rhett were definitely not counting on having to watch over twelve little rabbits
Warnings: Animal births, parenthood, Rhett being Snow White coded etc.
Tagging: @floydsmuse @callmemana @attapullman @sebsxphia @rhettabbotts
The spring sunshine spilled through the windows of yours and Rhett's home and into the room that had become the animal nursery. Rhett lay on his stomach on the soft rug, his arm curled protectively around Clover, the female bunny rabbit who had escaped the property of an infamous Wabang animal hoarder with her mate, Hazel.
You knelt beside him, brushing a loose chocolate brown curl off his face and kissing his stubbly cheek. Rhett purred in his sleep, a broad grin crawling across his face.
"You know I've got a pregnant doe with me right?" he chuckled.
You giggled a little, kissing his cheek again. "Your Ma says if you're not upstairs for dinner in twenty minutes she's gonna beat you with her sandal."
"I'd like to see her try," Rhett laughed.
Very carefully, he picked Clover up and brought her back to the birth box where Hazel was waiting for her. God she was getting big. Judging by the size of her belly, Rhett had guessed that she'd birth her litter any day now.
Upstairs they went to join his parents and Amy for dinner, the smell of roast chicken filling the whole house along with the herbed biscuits, white cheddar mac'n cheese and green beans. But while you and your family ate together, someone had other ideas.
"What the f---? Rhett your little rat's begging for food again," Royal announced.
Rhett looked under the table and there was Alberto, the little black and tan chihuahua dog with his American flag bandana around his neck, ears back and tail wagging like crazy.
"Hey!" Rhett ordered, snapping his fingers. "C'mere."
Alberto's nails scritched the floor as he hurried to Rhett's chair, laying right down near his feet.
"Little guy's spoiled fuckin rotten," Royal chuckled.
"Hey if ya'll were out on the streets you'd be beggin for food too," Rhett laughed.
"Ain't too proud to, son," Royal told him.
The family finished dinner and as soon as the leftovers were put away and the dishes loaded into the dishwasher for the night, you, Rhett, Cecelia, Amy and Royal all settled in for a weekend movie. "The Empire Strikes Back" had always been a favorite of Royal's, one he had watched with the gang of childhood miscreants who had been his friends growing up. You and Rhett had laughed when you found the video tape copy, still with the worn out piece of masking tape on it.
You had been in the middle of the film when Rhett had gotten up to go and bed the animals in the nursery down for the night, when he poked his head back into the basement living room.
"Darlin," he hissed. "C'mere."
You quickly got up and followed him upstairs to the room and sure enough, there was Clover with her little legs sticking up as she licked between them.
"Is it time?" you asked him.
"Yep," Rhett answered. "I'm gonna go scrub in the bathroom. Ya'll wanna go get some clean towels and the supplies?"
You nodded and went to go retrieve whatever Rhett needed. You both gently helped Clover as best you could, but thankfully no intervention was needed. The first little kit was born after about five minutes, a little ginger and cream colored one that you and Rhett had named Thresh. Eleven more followed in his wake, Blackberry, Nettle, Rosie, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme, Angelica, Lily and Holly.
The next morning, you could never have imagined the surprised expressions on your in-laws' faces nor Amy's when she meets the baby bunnies for the first time. You and Rhett are adamant that Amy keeps her hands off until she's learned to be gentle. But you and Rhett can't help but be proud, because every animal birth that occurs, you know that it's bound to be successful.

the human au doctors are all ambiguously from Not Great Home Situations but i think twelve specifically was having a terrible time as a foster kid and decided this little gang of weirdos would be his new family
#he’s also faceblind and can’t tell ten and eleven apart if they’re not talking for like. two months.#that’s unrelated it’s just another thing that’s true#they’re the family twelve wants and they’re the family twelve chose. and besides: he brings with him dinosaur facts.#(also this is the point at which nine realizes this is going to keep happening. like okay. ten? that’s one kid he’s taking under his wing.#and fair is fair. as annoying as ten is. as stubborn and rude as he can be. well. mostly that just reminded nine of himself. not a good#thing necessarily. but he needed someone looking after him when he was younger and ten needs him now. okay then.#but then eleven happens and eleven is Not supposed to happen but the other option is to leave him behind living in secret in amy pond’s shed#where he will inevitably be found and sent back somewhere he Does Not Want To Go Or Talk Or Think About. so nine can’t leave him.#ten and eleven might fight like pissy cats but they also huddle together when they fall asleep while nine is watching over them.#so okay then. eleven is coming too.#BUT TWELVE? this is the third time. you can’t have a coincidence three times in a row. and twelve is the one who chases after them. who#chooses them. how is nine supposed to turn him away. plus he’s got a pragmatic streak that is extremely helpful and he fits. you know?#there’s room in their little family for him. and he fits. he belongs. they see him.#so okay then. twelve is coming too.)#human!sibling!doctors au
