i am on a mission to compile all the different versions of the show's songs! i plan to record them all in a shared google doc which features links to each version, as well as the lyric changes!
right now i am specifically focused on Chant (reprise) / Chant II, so if anyone has full lyrics for any version outside of those on the albums, please DM ME ASAP!! if you could also include a link to the source of the lyrics, like what bootleg they're from, i would appreciate that SO highly!! i'm trying to catalogue those from youtube right now, but if you have a version from one of those bootlegs, feel free to send it anyway!
if you don't have any sort of info for me, that is fine, but PLEASE reblog to spread this around. i am VERY autistic and VERY hyperfixated on this and really would love to get some real info about this.
André De Shields sings "If You Believe" from The Wiz
I finally picked up the OBC for this show on CD and I'm still a bit disappointed that they never bothered to record this version of this song... I wonder why?
So I've been thinking so much of this moment and everything that must've happened before and after:
André de Shields' acceptance speech at the Tonys in 2019. And the women who birthed the musical that brought him there.
I keep thinking about the fact that Anaïs is there that night that a lot of insane dreams came true and how she is looking at him, full of love and joy - and how she is listening. How her acceptance speech parallels André's. In 2022 these are some lyrics from her song Watershed:
There's so much evidence of love and hope among these people.
I'll never be over this musical because its love spreads beyond what happens on stage. It took so long to become what it was (and is) and it's such a labor of love. And the people who worked on it share this insane belief in hope that it bleeds and shines everywhere they go.
Bonus, some other lyrics from the 2022 Anaïs Mitchell album:
shoutout to andré de shields for bringing hermes back to life as a burning character and a wonderful narrator. Youre an amazing hermes, and we thank you for your time as him!!
Regular and Recurring LGBTQIA+ Characters in series on TV & Streaming Video

Continuing the tradition from my old blog (which has been unceremoniously deleted by tumblr without much of an explanation why) I’m doing daily posts during June to celebrate LGBTQIA+ pride by showcasing openly LGBTQIA+ celebrities and various content about or created by LGBTQIA+ people such as music videos, characters on TV shows, movie trailers, …
I have been dreadfully remiss in updating my blog recently, so in an attempt to reduce my number of posts, here's a roundup of my August theatre trips. @hadestown and @kitkatclubldn were both truly extraordinary: absolutely go to see them!
Hadestown and Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club are truly extraordinary, wonderfully artistic pieces of musical theatre
