black women are constantly put under a microscope when it comes to their pain or their trauma, like the rest of the world feels like they ‘deserve’ to know everything about their struggles, and it’s so refreshing to see characters like dre from swarm (2023) and taissa in yellowjackets rejecting the people that want to rip their secrets out of them

About Dre and junk food in Swarm..
Someone pointed out that exclusively eating junk food is a sign of Dre's arrested development. How she's stuck in a childish mindset. Another person pointed out that the only time we really see Dre eat anything healthy, it's the fruit during her hallucination when she bites Ni'jah-- because the junk food was a metaphor for how she is not getting any nutritional value from all her fake interactions (the swarm online and her false relationships irl) but meeting Ni'jah was supposed to actually be nourishing in her mind.
Running with that, I actually noticed key moments with the food and intimacy throughout the show:
Spilled milk = blood in her past
Watching Marissa and Khalid share the food she brought them after she watched them have sex
The bowl of strawberries offered by the dude she loses her virginity to-- which she rejects, like she rejects developing this relationship any further; it's fresh fruit (authentic), not junk food
Eating her pretzels while the guy at the party jerked off-- a moment of intimacy but she's not getting any emotional fulfillment (nourishment) from it
Raiding the murder victim's pantry-- she's stocking up on something that will not give her nourishment, just like these meaningless interactions with the swarm and these hollow conversations about favourite artists are giving her a false sense of accomplishment and community
The junk food sex scene with the guy who works backstage-- using sex and his addiction to get backstage access at the concert is more intimacy without nourishment; you would think they were truly bonding over the shared love of junk food but he throws up immediately afterwards because what she gave him is not healthy or sustainable
The baked goods with Rashida-- gourmet cupcake at the coffee shop and the lemon cake from Rashida's mom are like dressed up junk food; her relationship with Rashida looks okay on the surface but it's still false/fake intimacy because Dre/Tony has not grown at all (still forcing the Ni'jah obsession on the other womn in her life, still blowing rent money on concert tickets), so it's not coming from a crinkly brightly packaged bag but it's still junk food

Okay now we know this shit is a hallucination. Like we know damn well this isn't real, we know Ni'Jah isn't comforting her while she cries.
That being said, what the fuck was that ending ?
