As promised here is the senior staff from the starship my OCs serve on !
I didn't make up much about them, mostly to how they relate to my OCs :
Lt Mallik is Rog's boss, and Khov has a crush on her (I said it was the first officer in my other post but I mixed them up)
Captain Sh'ithovar is a low level telepath and empath due to her Anear side (unfortunately it also gave her shit vision). Rip to you if you get in trouble with her since you can't lie to her and she knows exactly what you feel
Cmd Preek seems very strict, never smiles and has an ice cold stare. He makes many young crew members nervous, including Khov and nadia. In private with the other senior officers he's actually pretty nice, but he plays into his reputation as a cold hearted tyrant to keep the crew in line
Lt Esimi is actually half crazy. Who put her in charge of the engines
Lt Nguyen is the ship's pretty boy. Idk I didn't make much up about him
Doctor Ra-Latriveii has a very morbid and dark sense of humour, which gives him very strange bedside manner. He's also Ketis' boss

How do Aenar fare when going to Starfleet Academy? Any challenges?
eeeEEEEEE <3 thanks for the ask! Yay, I love this question!!
Headcanons: I’d say since it’s the 2240s-ish when Hemmer goes to the Academy and (at least in the timeline I have) he’s the only one! This leads to…a lot of problems, unfortunately. Thankfully, he has good roommates and a few good friends!  Let’s go over the pros and cons! (For Hemmer at least)
Oof! 0-0 This one is long- more beneath the cut!
Pros:
Friends: I headcanon that one of his first friends is from the Kanyakumari district (In India) as they both move to take off their shoes when they first go to class (as it’s a normal thing to do in their schools) and they both are like ‘hey!! you!! You’re like me!!’ And they bond over the shit cafeteria food (I have a scene (I stg the fic is coming…eventually.) where they take apart a small lunchroom jukebox to make a hotplate and cook their own shit- they hate cafeteria food so much lmao) They bond more over food, engineering, and culture shock!
Space: he loves fixing stuff! And the stars! he’s happy to both explore his interests…while also serving his people by being an impromptu Anear ambassador for everyone. (More of the first reason than the second…but the second reason is important too)TBH him being in Starfleet and following his purpose/his path makes him more happy than anything. The cons do suck, but the pros far outweigh them!
Cons:
General: Aenar are communal. Living in San Fran (which is HUGE) and having money?? Hemmer has no idea wtf money is because Aenar don’t use money. Also, a lot of people who are strangers freak him out- who tf is he supposed to call when he needs help?? or food?? or a break from his crazy roommates and horror movies??
The classes: Aenar need help to see certain things. Color doesn’t exist to them. They can’t see screens! ( to some extent, at least for my headcanons) So, their psychic abilities are just as much a disability as they are an extra ability! So, in classes, he’d probably have a ton of accomodations! some professors are cool…others are not. (As it is in college, oof)
Communication: Aenar are very indirect (Mostly) so he appears as cold and uncaring when he is very much the opposite! This also stems from his general personality and the isolation he gets from being away from home. The Andorians don’t really see him as Andorian. This leads to some loneliness in the first bit-  that doesn’t last twelve hours tho. (He makes a friend (Girish- the guy from India) almost instantly haha)
For later students, it’s probably better…unless you bring up how Hemmer died. I feel like his death certainly left a bad aftertaste and a horrible precedent for any Aenar kid who wants to be in Starfleet. Oof.
Anywho that's what I got!! Thanks for the ask!!! :3

Can I ask what the name of the Irish poem is? (The one written by a monk with ADHD.) I'm curious :)
Of course!
The poem's usually given the English title of "On the Flightiness of Thought" and...well. I do *not* want to diagnose a man who lived about a millennium ago; I can't know what his life was like, etc. etc. we've all heard this disclaimer before, but just....read it.... (Kuno Meyer's translation)
Shame to my thoughts, how they stray from me! I fear great danger from it on the day of eternal Doom.
During the psalms they wander on a path that is not right: They fash, they fret, they misbehave before the eyes of great God.
Through eager crowds, through companies of wanton women, Through woods, through cities — swifter they are than the wind.
Now through paths of loveliness, anon of notous shame!
Without a ferry or ever missing a step they go across every sea: Swiftly they leap in one bound from earth to heaven.
They run a race of folly anear and afar: After a course of giddiness they return to their home.
Though one should try to bind them or put shackles on their feet, They are neither constant nor mindful to take a spell of rest.
Neither sword-edge nor crack of whip will keep them down strongly: As slippery as an eel's tail they glide out of my grasp.
Neither lock nor firm-vaulted dungeon nor any fetter on earth, Stronghold nor sea nor bleak fastness restrains them from their course.
O beloved truly chaste Christ to whom every eye is clear, May the grace of the seven-fold Spirit come to keep them, to cheek them!
Rule this heart of mine, O dread God of the elements, That Thou mayst be my love, that I may do Thy will.
That I may reach Christ with His chosen companions, that we may be together! They are neither fickle nor inconstant — not as I am.

Halloween Day 12
A poem for today, especially for my dear @sylviefromneptune who I know loves The Erl-King, but may not know his daughter
The Erl-King’s Daughter
Johann Gottfried von Herder (1744–1803)
SIR OLF rode fast towards Thurlston’s walls,
 To meet his bride in his father’s halls.
He saw blue lights flit over the graves;
The elves came forth from their forest-caves.
 They danced anear on the glossy strand,
And the Erl-King’s Daughter held out her hand.
 “O, welcome, Sir Olf, to our jubilee!
Step into the circle and dance with me.”
 “I dare not dance, I dare not stay;
To-morrow will be my nuptial-day.”
 “Two golden spurs will I give unto thee,
And I pray thee, Sir Olf, to tarry with me.”
 “I dare not tarry, I dare not delay,
To-morrow is fixed for my nuptial-day.”
 “Will give thee a shirt so white and fine,
Was bleached yestreen in the new moonshine.”
 “I dare not hearken to Elf or Fay;
To-morrow is fixed for my nuptial-day.”
 “A measure of gold will I give unto thee,
And I pray thee, Sir Olf, to dance with me.”
“The measure of gold I will carry away,
But I dare not dance, and I dare not stay.”
 “Then, since thou wilt go, even go with a blight!
A true-lover’s token I leave thee, Sir Knight.”
 She lightly struck with her wand on his heart,
And he swooned and swooned from the deadly smart.
 She lifted him up on his coal-black steed;
“Now hie thee away with a fatal speed!”
 Then shone the moon, and howled the wolf,
And the sheen and the howl awoke Sir Olf.
 He rode over mead, he rode over moor,
He rode till he rode to his own house-door.
 Within sate, white as the marble, his bride,
But his gray-haired mother stood watching outside.
 “My son, my son, thou art haggard and wan;
Thy brow is the brow of a dying man.”
 “And haggard and wan I well may be,
For the Erl-King’s Daughter hath wounded me.”
 “I pray thee, my son, dismount and bide:
There is mist on the eyes of thy pining bride.”
 “O mother, I should but drop dead from my steed;
I will wander abroad for the strength I need.”
 “And what shall I tell thy bride, my son,
When the morning dawns and the tiring is done?”
 “O, tell my bride that I rode to the wood,
With my hound in leash and my hawk in hood.”
 When morning dawned with crimson and gray,
The bride came forth in her wedding array.
 They poured out mead, they poured out wine:
“Now, where is thy son, O goldmother mine?”
 “My son, golddaughter, rode into the wood,
With his hounds in leash and his hawk in hood.”
 Then the bride grew sick with an ominous dread,—
“O, woe is me, Sir Olf is dead.”
 She drooped like a lily that feels the blast,
She drooped, and drooped, till she died at last.
 They rest in the charnel side by side,
The stricken Sir Olf and his faithful bride.
 But the Erl-King’s Daughter dances still,
When the moonlight sleeps on the frosted hill.

All, she sleep
Which man lovers ever we return’d in earth were hung with many death, if she with a bright-have-beens, then returns, and life paid our skin from thee all. Eternity: Cold Pastorella in the dews that was in a cavern wind. Inches beare when he did their legs with madden’d with Decay, o’ercharged with risk. To humanity which shall love ribbon, lockes displaies hight. In woe? The sunset flatterie is: and ’twas cruelties of that. It would take thee anear. To dive in happy me! By the again uncertain ways: through many richly redolent; but the ground; and Juan and softest dread?

Lorica of Saint Patrick
Author: Saint Patrick
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.
I arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth and His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection and His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.
I arise today
Through the strength of the love of cherubim,
In obedience of angels,
In service of archangels,
In the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs,
In preachings of the apostles,
In faiths of confessors,
In innocence of virgins,
In deeds of righteous men.
I arise today
Through the strength of heaven;
Light of the sun,
Splendor of fire,
Speed of lightning,
Swiftness of the wind,
Depth of the sea,
Stability of the earth,
Firmness of the rock.
I arise today
Through God's strength to pilot me;
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's hosts to save me
From snares of the devil,
From temptations of vices,
From every one who desires me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone or in a mulitude.
I summon today all these powers between me and evil,
Against every cruel merciless power that opposes my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of women and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.
Christ shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that reward may come to me in abundance.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of me,
Christ in the eye that sees me,
Christ in the ear that hears me.
I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through a confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.

Poem of the Day 20 June 2024
Sonnets from the Portuguese 7: The Face BY Browning, Elizabeth Barrett (1806 - 1861)
The face of all the world is changed, I think,
Since first I heard the footsteps of thy soul
Move still, oh, still, beside me, as they stole
Betwixt me and the dreadful outer brink
Of obvious death, where I, who thought to sink,
Was caught up into love, and taught the whole
Of life in a new rhythm. The cup of dole
God gave for baptism, I am fain to drink,
And praise its sweetness, Sweet, with thee anear.
The names of country, heaven, are changed away
For where thou art or shalt be, there or here;
And this ... this lute and song ... loved yesterday,
(The singing angels know) are only dear,
Because thy name moves right in what they say.

And soon I heard a roaring wind:
It did not come anear;
But with its sound it shook the sails,
That were so thin and sere.
