Hey guys, I’m sorry i went total radio silence for the past week or so and I just wanted to say in advance that I’m 100% fine and I walked out of it all unscathed. With that out of the way, I just survived a house fire and, on the very next day, I came across a stray dog with the GNARLIEST injury I’ve ever seen in my life and dropped everything to rescue her so life has been a little hectic lately lol

Guys…someone dumped a kitten by my house and dogs where attacking it. I saved it but uhh I’m hurt and have to go see if I need a rabies shot.

The kitten doesn’t have any open wounds but I’m pretty sure it’s leg is broken and it won’t stop crying. Idk if I’m sick from worry for the baby or if I’m getting an infection.

It was so scary when I wrenched the cat from the dogs mouth one started jumping one me trying to rip it from my arms. I might just be shaking from adrenaline.

Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine if the bacteria doesn’t catch

I found a dog claw (like, not the whole thing, but many layers such that it would for sure hurt & bleed) in the crack of the asphalt in the parking space we used at the park today. Panicked and checked all of Nova's toes before realizing it was the wrong color for her 😅

About rat balls... My rat just cost me over 800 euro for an emergency castration yesterday. My boy somehow injured one of his balls so bad it was bleeding internally. It was at night so only the emergency vet is open, which is a 30 minute drive away. A taxi here is for that is about 45, just to see the vet is 180. They could not safe his ball and also to the other for good measure, they think he twisted his ball somehow, but he was fine in the end. Just very tired now from surgery. My wallet however? Not so fine. He's about as expensive now as my pedigree dog lmao.

hi Trench! I recently started considering the havanese breed for my future dog (a couple years from now) and I was wondering what your favourite and least favourite experiences with Whim have been? so far I think they have a good energy level for me, and honestly, Whim is just so charming

Favorite experience with Whim is anytime we go camping. There is nothing better on this earth than spending a few days running around in the woods with your dog. Eating meals by the fire. Sharing the sleeping bag. It's like yeah. I can see why we domesticated you.

Also her reduced prey drive and strong recall + attentiveness to me, means that I can let her off leash (when it's legal) and be pretty confident that she won't leave my line of sight. She's got a GPS collar just in case but I've never needed it.

Least favorite experience with Whim was when she was attacked by a dog. Because I rushed her to the clinic I work at, I was present for her being restrained, catheterized, sedated, and for her (fortunately minor) surgery. I wish I hadn't been.

She tried to bite staff and needed 3 people to restrain her + a muzzle before the drugs kicked in. It's a level of stress I've never seen her reach before.

Yesterday I restrained her solo and unmuzzled for a blood draw and she was calm and still. So it was extremely atypical behavior for her which only served to highlight how much pain she was in.

In hindsight I wonder if my own stress made her worse (we often see animals behave better for us in clinic when the owner is not present). I couldn't bring myself to leave her at the time, and I'll never get those images out of my head.

We made it through with only minor scarring and some increased dog reactivity. I've been happy with her progress behavior-wise. Last week she initiated play with a larger dog, which she hasn't done in months!!!

This is probably not very helpful to your dog breed decision making, sorry. But I'll take this moment to soapbox that if a dog is picked up and shaken by another dog that is a medical emergency, call your vet. Also learn some defensive handling from the IAABC or something.

hi i’ll update my commissions page sometime soon but I’ll be reopening them tomorrow probably. cat is at the emergency vet and so far I’m out $850 and may be up to a couple thousand or more depending on what they find on her xrays. i can live without commissions, close friends have offered to help me if I need it, but some extra cash would be appreciated.
